“I’m training in engineering,” she answered as she pulled out a chair from under the table and sat down.
The picked up one of the menus from the centre of the table and scanned though it looking for something to satisfy her rumbling stomach. She listened as Capps explained her reasons for becoming an operations officer.
<tag capps>
She decided upon the traditional Irish stew.
“Excuse me for a second,” she said as she stood up and headed towards the bar. As she approached the bar she noticed an orion woman holding a PAD, which she presumed was one of the waitress.
“Excuse me,” she said to the waitress, “Could I make an order please?”
“Certainly,” she said lifting her pad up ready to enter the order, “What would you like?”
“The Irish stew,” Hannah answered.
“Where are you sat?” the waitress asked.
Hannah pointed over to where all the Starfleet Officers were sat around a table.
“I bring it over in about ten minutes,” she said as walked away towards the kitchen. Hannah headed back to the table and sat back down with the others.

"Engineering," S'reena nodded, "well you're in for a treat then. We've got a very special chief engineer, we do." She paused, sipping her tea while it was still hot. "And he's very good. Remind me to introduce you to him soon."
<Hannah>
They fell silent when the waitress came by to bring the young cadet her food. "So what's that you're eating?" S'reena asked, as she wrinkled her nose at the scent that was coming from the dish. "It smells....." She didn't want to say awful, but it didn't smell very nice to her either. "Appetizing," she finally settled on. "So, what got you interested in tinkering with engines?"

“I look forward to meeting him. What is he like?” Hannah asked. <S’reena> She watched as the waitress placed the disk in front of her. "So what's that you're eating?"; S'reena asked “Irish stew, I thought I’d try something new,” she answered taking the first spoon full. She swallowed the stew tasting the lamb and the onions. She loved the taste of lamb and the stew tasted superb. "So, what got you interested in tinkering with engines?" “My mother’s ambition was for me to become a pilot and she use to take me up for a flying lessons,” Hannah began. As she spoke felt a wave of sadness and a tear ran down her face, she missed her mother so much. “One day the shuttle broke down,” she continued as she took the soda bread from the side of her bowl and dipped it in the stew, “and I remember watching my uncle fixing it. I found it so interesting and ended up helping him and found I knack for it. For the next few weeks after that I took everything in my house to pieces to see if I could put it back together, it wound up my parent completely.” “As I got older I learn more and more about engineer and found that I enjoyed it and had a natural ability for it. I followed the family tradition and joined Starfleet, as an engineer,” Hannah said.

Not being able to help overhearing the conversation going on between the cadet and S'reena, she turns to this cadet.
"Well, on my last mission out I was the Cheif Engineer for the Hepta. It was really quite a mission. I remember the CEO of the Hanson, quite a character if ever I saw one. Do you look forward to your training mission?" Joan says not quite sure what to say while making small talk, which has always been an area she needed to improve, but never had the chance.
"So, Cadet songinstar, right? What are you training in?" She says realizing she forgot to even acknowledge the new cadet.

“I am looking forward to the training mission,” she answer as she finished of her stew, “But I am bit nervous haven’t been on a real star ship since I was a child, just tons and tons of simulations.”
She turned to Joan, “How long have you served aboard the Hanson and how do you find it?”
The waitress came up to her and removed her bow from in front of her, which was now empty.
“Would you like anything else?” she asked Hannah.
“A cup of tea please,” she answer as she leant back in her chair making herself more comfortable.
“Sure,” she answered as she entered the order into her pad and turned to the rest of the table.
“Would anyone else like anything?”

"What are you nervous about?" Joan says, and then thinks for a minute realizing a few things that could be done, but doesn't answer.
<Hannah>
"I see, well that is natural I guess, but you really have nothing to worry about. I have seen several missions, and we have yet to loose anyone." She says confident in what she says. She realizes a hansome doctor is across the table from her, and she smiles his way.

Soaringstar, Commander," she said, correcting her, " an interesting name for a part Klingon, isn't it? I'm training in security," she mentioned, looking in the commander with her piercing blue eyes, a feature unusual for a Klingon to have.
"The Commander is right, Hannah. It should be gloriously fun. Besides you can learn more from expereience than you can learn from a book any day," she replied reassuringly.

"Oh so sorry, I didn't realize I had made that mistake. What lovely eyes, do all Klingons have such a color, or just you?" She says realizing she hadn't had much to do with Klingons since her arrival in Starfleet, and she wonders if her mother would have made such a mistake. She decides her mother wouldn't have. She smiles sweetly, hoping that this cadet doesn't feel like Joan had insulted her, because that wasn't her intentions when she acknowledged the cadet sitting there. "You mentioned you were half Klingon, what is the other half?" She says very curious, and hopes this doesn't get her into trouble.
OOC: soaringstar, I have a second character in the fleet who just happens to be half klingon. Liz, my primary character, is also half Vulcan, which is the interresting feature with that character.

Jason finally decided to put his two bits into the conversation to encourage Hannah. But as he's about to speak, he notices the smile from Joan. He moves with his chair to the other side of the table, and takes her hand in his.
"Your fellow Cadet is right, Ms. Stevenson," he said, now turning his attention back to her. "I learned quite a bit in Medical school, but that doesn't compare to what I've learned out here. You battle incidents and problems you don't even dream of in a classroom at the Academy."

(OOC: Note that Noah is in a wheelchair. Yes, one with actual wheels. He pushes it, but has a power steering option that he usually ignores.)
"Are you sure I can't drive again?" Kahlan asked Noah while sitting on his lap as they go down the corridor.
"Sorry, lassie," he said smiling, "But there are too many people, you might run into them."
"Oh ok," she said simply. "What's a lassie?"
"Where I come from it's what we call a little girl like yourself. I'm from a part of Earth called Ireland," he explained.
"Oooh," she said. "Where are we going now?"
"Lunch. We're going to the restaurant your mom's at right now. And some of the other officers are there too," he said, as he navigated the crowd in the Restaurant district. "Here we go, Heather on the Hill."
He wheeled in to the restaurant. He spotted the knot of people he was looking for, and headed over. A couple cadets was among them as well.
"Mommy, mommy!" Kahlan called as they neared. "I had so much fun." She began explain as Noah stopped next to Commander Hope. "Uncle Noah took me to the holodeck, and let me drive his chair!" she said proudly.
"I'm glad you had fun, dear. Commander?" she said, looking up at him.
"I programmed a landscape where I could manipulate the rocks such that we could go through them if she went toward one by mistake. She got pretty good after a while. We're here for lunch," he said.
"Excellent," she said, and turned to one of the Cadets. "Hannah, looks like you get to found out for yourself what the Chief Engineer is like. Commander, meet Hannah Stevenson, your latest pupil."
He smiled and extended his hand. "Hello, Cadet. I'm Commander Noah Bates, Chief Engineer of the Hanson, and your Instructor. Welcome aboard."

Everyone was having multiple conversations. Question were flying across the table and others were being asked next to the person asking. Even a few question were for Calvin to answer, but he wasn't the one to divulge to much information.
His earlier days were hard on him and his family and he had learned not to give to much information. Only if it were asked. In this situation the other officers were asking. Calvin had no problem with ansering their questions.
"Got any hobbies?" Commander S'reena asked.
"I try to stay fit, and it puts my mind at rest. Holodeck sir. I enjoy history lessons." Calvin started to speak more quickly. "Not just from Earth, but other worlds as well. I really enjoy studying the history of the R..."
Calvin stopped and looked around the table. "I enjoy history sir." He said more calmly and not so excited. The cadet moved on to the next part fo the question.
"I have decided Operations because I believe that it best fits my personality. It will bring me to the goals that I have set in Starfleet."
More and more people continued to showed up to the table. Calvin just listened to all the stories, and tried to learn more and more about the officers he would be working with.

“A pleasure to meet you,” Hannah said as she shuck Noah’s hand, “I look forward to serving with you.”
The waitress walked over to them and placed her cup of tea in front Hannah. The aroma reminded her of the tea her great-grandmother use to make. Hannah remembered the stories about the distant world that her great-grandmother told from her old armchair in front of the roaring fire. As a child she looked forward to those tales and had a special spot on the rug in front of her great-grandmother where she enjoyed sitting and listening intensely to the stories. That was one of the reasons she’d joined Starfleet was to see all those Worlds.
Hannah took a sip of her tea; she’d never actually tasted her great-grandmother’s tea. She had died during the Breen attack on Earth, before Hannah was old enough to try the tea.
“What is it like serving on the Hanson?” she asked Noah as she took another sip from her tea. She wondered if her Great-grandmother’s tea tasted anything like this.

"History," S'reena repeated thoughtfully, "yes that is an important aspect of the Federation. It wouldn't hurt to know much about our history, to tell about to people we meet that aren't familiar with us, but are friendly." She listened attentively to the cadet as he continued his story. "And what are your goals?" she finally asked, "besides rising through the ranks after graduation, and broadening your experience."
She paused, pulling Kahlan onto her lap, and telling the child to be quiet for a moment. "I used to want to go into medicine, but pre-med rejected me on basis of me having a bit of a temper." She smiled radiantly at her fellow instructors, then turned her attention back to the cadet. "Instead, I continued in the field of science. Though I am a first officer now....albeit one who's more sent off duty than being on duty, I'm still a scientist by heart."
She paused again, and finished her tea, which was about to go cold again. "What about family?" she finally asked, "are you a family man mister Capps?"
<Capps>
"Family is everything don't you agree Kahlan?"
The little girl nodded vervently. "Mommy, can I play with Yarna?"
S'reena nodded and motioned for Soaringstar, who was still holding Yarna, to place the toddler onto the floor. "Keep an eye on her and stay close," she told the four-year old."
"Yes mother," Kahlan replied, and went to sit opposite of Yarna, who was giggling happily. Then she looked up at Capps. "Mommy's having a baby," she then said, "I hope I'm getting a brother."
S'reena rolled her eyes in exasperation. "Figures," she muttered, shaking her head. "We'll see about that," she told Kahlan, "maybe if you're a good girl." She grinned at Capps. "As if we can change this huh."

"Well I'd definitely say its much different for the Instructors for the Cadets. But I can give you an idea of what its like to serve in my Engine Room," he began to explain.
But he was interrupted when the chair began to beep. He looked down to see Kahlan pulling away from the arm console, having brushed up against it while playing. "Sorry, I didn't mean to push it."
Noah pulled the PADD out of the side pocket of his chair. She had activated the stair-climbing feature. He pressed a key to deactivate it. "That's ok. No harm done. It was beeping because it's supposed to go forward when that happens but couldn't."
He turned back to Hannah. "Anyway. I must warn you, I have quite the reputation for how tough I am as an Instructor. 'I can't' is not a phrase I allow to come from a Cadet's mouth when I give them an assignment. But dont' worry," he added, relaxing his face. "With such an attitude comes an equal drive to teach you all I know and the best I can. One of the other Officers have probably asked you already, but what attracts you to Engineering?"

"And what are your goals?" Asked S'reena.
"My main goal." Calvin paused. "Is to be remembered. You are right, I do want to rise through the ranks, but my drive comes from me doing what fate has brought me to do. I know what ever that is. It will be important and history will remember em."
Calvin took a deep swallow. It had actually been a long time since he talked to a group of people. And it had bas been a really long time since he talked about his personal life in so much detail to anyone. "Some say sir, that my goal is to high. But I don't think so. I can reach it sir. I know I can. People on Earth once said that they would never be able to reach the stars, but look where we are now."
Calvin stopped talking and listened carefully to what S'reena was telling him. He thought that she must have had no time, but a very interesting life.
"What about family?" she finally asked, "are you a family man mister Capps?" S'reena continued with her questions.
"I believe a family is important. It can bring stable. But most importantly it brings love and support. As of right now I am not ready to start a family. It will probably be a while."
"Mommy's having a baby," she then said, "I hope I'm getting a brother." said Kahlan.
Calvin smiled with a small laugh behind it.
"As if we can change this huh." laughed S'reena.
"Well, I don't know any doctors that can anyway."

“My mother’s dream was for me to a pilot, she use to take me for flying lessons in a old shuttle,” Hannah explained, repeating what she had said to S’reena earlier.
“One day the shuttle broke down and I remember watching my uncle fixing. I was so interested asking lots of questions and ended up helping him. For the next week ending taking everything bit to see how it worked and whether I could put it back together again,” she continued finishing her cup of tea.
“As I got older, I learn more and more about engineering. And I realised I had a natural ability for it and really enjoyed it. My uncle got me a bit of experience working with him repairing ships. After that I knew I wanted to be a engineer,” she answered as she leaned back in her chair. She looked over to where the two children were playing next to Noah and back at Noah.
“Why did you choose engineering?” Hannah asked Noah.

"Well, actually something breaking was somewhat of what got me into Engineering. Except I was doing the breaking. I was a rambunctious little child, and when running around the house I was prone to breaking things. If that thing was a piece of technology, seeing the inside fascinating me. I started dissembling things on purpose, like computers, to see how they worked."
He stretched a bit, then continued. "Anyway, after I got confined to this wheelchair, I focused more on the Sciences than ever. All of this served to focus my interest on Engineering, which brings me here today. I've got a Ph.D. in Warp Mechanics, but I much prefer the day-to-day challenges of all this," he said gesturing toward the rest of the Station.

Joan realizes someone is holding her hand, and she removes it from his not sure who he is. She feels like she should know him, but because of recent events has no clue who he is or why he is holding her hand. She thinks he is cute, but she moves to seat herself on the other side of Commander Hope, putting the commander between them.
Hearing the little girl's response, Joan chuckles. "Cute kid. What is her name? I feel I should know this, but I have no idea. Oh and congratulation on the new addition, and I am having deja vu, weird. Oh well. I find that when you make new friends, which you do when you are among the stars, that they are very hard to forget. Just do the best you can, cadet, and you might surprise yourself." Joan says smiling at Cadet Capps, hoping this helps him.

(OOC: Joint-post between Joan and I)
Jason was startled by Joan's reaction to his hand. She looked like she wasn't sure why he had. "Her name is Yarna, dear. Don't you remember?"
"Dear? No, I don't really remember her. I think she was on a mission with us, but that one is a little hazy still." She says a little confused by him.
"Why'd you pull away from me? Is something wrong?" he asked, puzzled.
"I don't normally allow strangers to hold my hand. That mission, wasn't that one with Yarna where the captain went to another crew, or something like that?" Joan says still trying to piece together her memory.
"Yes, it was. That was a couple missions ago. But strangers? Surely you don't consider me a stranger. Not after all that's happened between us," he said, still not realizing what was wrong.
"Between us? I don't think anything has happened between us. I am sure that would have returned to me if it did." She says trying to listen to the other conversation going on at the moment.
"Did something affect your memory while you were on the last mission?" he asked, starting to realize the problem.
"Well actually I believe it was the mission before last, and I didn't realize what had happened until last mission." She says wondering why he continued to converse with her.
"What happened?" he asked, wondering what she meant. She was fine after the mission before last. Was she ill?
"Well I believe the mission before last was the one where the Hanson crew, including myself at the time, dealt with a virus on the ship. I was infected, and for some reason several gaps started to appear out of nowhere. I think they came slowly, and that is why I didn't notice them right away." She says turning back to the other conversation again.
He didn't think this would work, but his Doctor's persistance and his feelings for her wouldn't let him stop himself. "Joan, look at me. Look at my face. Do you remember who I am, anything about me?"
She looks his way a little irrated by is persistance for her memory to return. "I told you, I don't remember you or your face. Please stop insisting that I remember you, as my memory will return when it returns. I don't think it is something that can be rushed, or at least that is what the doctor on the Hepta said." She says hoping this persuades him to stop, but isn't sure about that, so she again returns to the current conversation with the cadets hoping he gets the hint.
His heart sinks, and he doesn't try any further. Her memory of him was gone, all of it. All the time they'd spent together, the moments they shared, even what his name was, was entirely gone.
