-- Holodeck 3 --
As cadets filed into the holodeck, they found themselves suddenly in the briefing room of a starship. Seated at the head of the table was a fairly large man wearing four gold pips. Standing next to him was a man almost as tall, but with a much slimmer build; he was wearing a traditional civilian business suit.
"Good morning, cadets," said the civilian. "My name is Arthur Cline. I am a Senior Lecturer on Computer and Information Security here at the Section 47 Academy, and apparently a holodeck technician," he said trailing off. "Today," he continued, "you will be participating in a simulated search-and-rescue mission, albeit shorter than a normal mission. You are aboard the USS Haley, a holographic Norway-class starship. And you," he said emphatically, pointing at the cadets, "are the senior staff running this mission. I will be operating this simulation, so expect some surprises. And now may I introduce you to your Commanding Officer, Captain TWO. He will explain your mission to you. Captain..." Art stepped back, and let the captain take it from here.

"Thank you Mr. Cline," TWO said, standing. "Your mission, cadets," he said as he leaned forward, "should you choose to accept it... and even if you don't... is to rescue the USS Zimmerman and her crew. The Zimmerman, a Nova-class science vessel, issued a distress signal less than one hour ago. It is suspected that they were attacked, or possibly sabatoged. Relations are stable with both the Cardassians and Klingons, so it is probably a rogue agent or group. We will be coming to their aid. We will care for their wounded, repair any damages to their ship, and fight off any attackers or sabatours if necessary. We will then escort them back here to the Starbase Conqueror.
"As Mr. Cline pointed out to you, you cadets will be running your departments for this mission. And partway through the mission, I may even ask one of you to step up as First Officer.
"At this time, I would like to go around the table and introduce ourselves. State your name and department, and if you have any questions, please ask them at this time.
"My name is TWO, I am the captain, and I have no questions for myself." He said this with a straight face, but his eyes betrayed the jocular sarcasm in his last statement.

OFF: Well, just introduce yourself in character (IC). Something along the lines of: Cadet so-and-so stood and said, "Hello, my name is So-and-so, I am in the ____ department." Then if you have any IC comments or questions, make or ask them. For instance, you could post: Cadet so-and-so hesitated, then spoke up again. "Sir, how far away is the Zimmerman right now?" he asked.
Does that make sense?

Tinyl entered the holodeck and took a seat around the table with the rest of the cadets. She folded her hands and listened as the two men at the head of the table introduced themselves, a Mr. Arthur Cline and the Captain of their mission, Captain TWO. She hated being the first to report in but stood up and looked around the table before responding.
"My name is Tinyl Nurem, I am in the Security and Tactical Departments. I don't have any questions at this time."
She sat back down. Her questions would wait until the other cadets spoke up, their responses would show her what needed to be addressed and what they covered with their own thoughts.
OFF: I am going to be away from tomorrow evening until sometime on monday, with sporatic computer access but shall peek in as time allows.

Cadet Smith heard the announcement and headed straight for the holodeck. He was ready for action! He was the second cadet to enter and sit down, entering just behind a human female who later identified herself as Tinyl Nurem. He was glad he didn't have to be the very first to introduce himself, but he was definately excited to get going. He stood up as soon as Cadet Nurem sat back down. He spoke at attention.
"Good morning, sir. My name is Walter Bedell Smith. I am training to be a Marine. Sir, I assume we'll be sending a tactical team to the distressed ship? Just in case."
He stood until the captain answered the question. "Thank you, sir," he said again at attention, then he sat down.

"Good morning cadet," TWO replied with a smile. "Yes, I suppose we will be sending in a tactical team. We'll probably send Security Department personnel as escorts for the other naval officers, and a distinct Marine unit will be sent separately, to be used as an offensive force if needed."

Sir Cadet Pride asked do we have any back round info on the crew involved. If this was sabatoged we might be able to figure out who and why before we get there. Cadet Pride took his seat and waited hoping he asked the right Question

Cadet Farsir Heard the annoucement and headed right to holodeck three.
He walks in to see there's only two other cadets other then him in the room. He was glad that he wasn't late cause he didn't want to tardy for his first class.
"Cadet Jason Farsir, Reporting as ordered sir," He sits down in one of the the chairs. "What can I do to help in operations?"

cadet john darzee was unpacking his gear when he heard the announcement. "damn" he cursed "i don't want to be late again!" he ran all the way to the holodeck, clearly out of breath when he arrived. after a casual look around the room he summised that he wasn't late and took his seat near the bulky marine. "cadet John Darzee, Reporting as ordered sir!" "anything i can do to help in the engine room?" with a look of awe he marveled at the workmanship put into creating this program. as John was looking foward to studying in engineering and Holography "this truly is an amazing program" "did you write it sir?"

"Sir," Cadet Pride asked, "do we have any back round info on the crew involved? If this was sabatoged we might be able to figure out who and why before we get there." "Let's not get ahead of ourselves," the Captain replied. "We don't know what happened to the crew. So let's get going and find out, shall we? And it is just a standard crew, standard science research mission, nothing special." Then Cadet Farsir reported and asked, "What can I do to help in operations?" "Well," said TWO, "you will man the Ops station on the Bridge. Run scans, manage ship systems, that sort of thing. Anything and everything the Chief Operations Officer on a starship would do." Finally, Cadet Darzee reported. "Anything I can do to help in the engine room?" he added. "This truly is an amazing program. Did you write it sir?" "Actually, Mr. Cline here wrote it, though I chose the class. And I agree, it is very well done." TWO looked over and smiled in Art's direction. "Now," Captain TWO continued, "let us be off. Cadets, man your stations. Prepare for departure. You have half an hour." -- Bridge, 30 minutes later -- TWO sat in the Captain's chair, cadets at their posts, ready to depart at his order. Unfortunately, however, there were no Navigation/Helm cadets with them at this time, so TWO had to get up and take the CONN station himself. He tapped his combadge: "All hands prepare to leave spacedock." He released the docking clamps, maneuvered away from the starbase, and set a course for the last known location of the Zimmerman. "Maximum warp, and here we go!" -- Unspecified amount of time later -- "All hands prepare to drop out of warp," Captain TWO announced from the CONN, seconds before he disengaged the warp drive. "Show me the Zimmerman," he half-shouted. TWO finally decided it was time for him to move back to the captain's chair. When back in the center seat, he tapped a few commands on his console, and a holographic helm officer appeared at the CONN. "Mr. Pride, shields up," the Captain ordered. "Mr. Farsir, tell me about the Zimmerman. How badly is she damaged? What are the life-signs?" OFF: Cadets, feel free to take charge of the direction of this mission. I have nothing firmly in mind. So if I ask you an open-ended question, feel free to fill in an answer of your own imagination. This is your chance to take a few risks with your simming.

Cadet John Darzee was down in engineering, toying with the warp core. in awe of the holography of the projection. then, all of a sudden a blinding flash emanated from a console surrounding the core. "what the heck was that!" John Darzee screamed "Cadet what was that?" the captain called running towards a near console (not the one that flashed) John Darzee reported "One of the GNDN conduits leaked, no danger to the ship or it's crew" he replied with relief "it'll be repaired within the hour!" "Any info on where the Zimmerman is, Sir?"

Tinyl was at the tactical/security station running routine manual scans throughout the ship. She'd been doing this since the simulation had started as well as other routine procedures. When they dropped out of warp she looked up as the Zimmerman became visible on the view screen. She was as ready as she would ever be for whatever they would find and only her stomach seemed to disagree with her, for it was tied in knots.

Cadet Farsir starts the scan on the Zimmerman. "Captain, there are life signs on board, There appears to be some kind of interference so I can't say as to why, but it is running only on backup power. Shields are down but no damage, Life support is functioning, that's all I get the interference is blocking other scans," While attemping to get past the interference, he found the source. "Captain, I can't get past the interfiences but I was able to find location of the source but what is causing the interference is not showing up on scans either."

Tinyl ran her hands over the console in front of her, double-checking that all security teams and protocols are in place for this situation. She glanced across the console and saw that everything and everyone was in place. She turned slightly and tapped another console bringing up all tactical information. Double-checking to make sure that all weapons were green and ready for action.
"Captain, we're ready here ... security is on standby and ready for whatever comes our way. Tactical is on standby as well sir, ready at your command, Sir."
She glanced at the center seat before turning back to her console.

OFF: Mr. Pride, I noticed you were interested in the helm, so I thought I'd let you take it over here. Remember that the helmsman also monitors longe- and short-range scans for other ships.
ON:
"Captain," Cadet Farsir piped up, "I suggest we scan the ship."
"Do it," Captain TWO replied. While the scans were running, TWO deactivated the holographic helmsman and asked Cadet Pride to man the CONN.
Cadet Farsir reported life signs, but that there was unexplained interference blocking other scans.
"Very well," the captain said thoughtfully, "it looks like we may have to send an away team." He tapped his combadge. "TWO to Engineering." But as soon as Cadet Darzee answered, he heard an explosion in the background. "Cadet, what was that?"
"One of the GNDN conduits leaked no danger to the ship or it's crew" he replied with relief. "It'll be repaired within the hour! Any info on where the Zimmerman is, Sir?"
"Yes, we have arrived. You should be able to see the scans on your console. I need to know if you can get a transport through to send an away team."
"I'll get back to you right away sir. Darzee out."
Cadet Nurem volunteered a status report: "Captain, we're ready here ... security is on standby and ready for whatever comes our way. Tactical is on standby as well sir, ready at your command, Sir."
"Thank you, Ms. Nurem. We may need that security team very soon. Would you be able and willing to lead the away team?" TWO looked over to Cadet Smith, who was standing at parade rest near the aft of the bridge. "Mr. Smith, I'll need a team of Marines ready for this away mission as well."
OFF: Let's get this away mission rolling. Don't wait for my express authorization to go, just do it. Cadet Nurem will lead the away team, Cadet Smith with the Marines, and Cadet Darzee should go to make repairs. Cadets Pride and Farsir, you both have your choice to go or stay.

Do however, please wrap this up quickly for the cadets that have reported both here and to the Hanson. We need their attention on the Hanson mission for the next 4 weeks. Some cadets are really new to simming and we would like to have their full attention on one place instead of two for the time being.

"I'll get back to you right away sir. Darzee out."
with a quick glance at the console, cadet Darzee suddenly realised the trouble they were in. slowly building up undetected was a plasma feedback loop in the transporter receptor coils, the GNDN leak was a release of the built up pressure. if this wasn't fixed soon, the ship would be able to transport away teams to the ZImmerman; but they couldn't return. with an increased urgency John Darzee reported to the captain. "urgent Hail for the captain!" "captain here, what is it cadet?'' the captain replied "you remember the conduit that exploded?" John Darzee quized "guess what it connects to?.... the transporter receptor coils" "you'll be able to send away teams, but not return them captain" "i won't be able to refit the coils with the spare parts aboard" "but if i could make a suggestion captain?" "go ahead Cadet" the captain replied "well.... we ARE on a holodeck..... we COULD just replace the coils, it would only take a few minutes; i could even do it myself!" "what do you think?" with this John Darzee waited for the captains reply

Captain Cadet Pride reported our senors are picking up a faint echo of another ship at the extrem edge of our senors it could another ship or just a echo. If cadet Darzee could boost our senor range we might be able to find out if its a ship or just a echo. Cadet pride continued working on the senors to get a better reading

Tinyl looked up as the Captain asked. "Thank you, Ms. Nurem. We may need that security team very soon. Would you be able and willing to lead the away team?" Her stomach clenched and her heart thudded at his words ... but she was quick to answer, her response not betraying her sudden nervousness. She knew that her willingness to step up to the plate as it were ... would help determine any further training which would come her way.
"Yes Sir I am able and am willing to lead the away team." Tinyl quickly contacted two teams of her security personell and issued orders for them to meet her in the transporter room. After relinquishing her spot at tactical to a nearby holographic replacement she turned to the Captain and Cadet Smith. "Captain .. if I may?" she asked nodding towards the turbolift knowing time was of the essence.
"Mr. Smith, Please meet me in the transporter room with your men as soon as possble?" She was uncomfortable giving orders to a fellow cadet but the Captain had placed her in charge and she was up to the challenge.
Once the Captain acknowledged her question she stepped off the bridge and onto the turbolift, waiting briefly while Cadet Smith joined her.
(Off: I hope you don't mind me taking control here, feel free to do a back post between the Captains and my own with whatever your character would have done.)
