Joan was enjoying her eclair when a ghost from her past came out of the shadows. She hadn't noticed the arrival of the commander before, and was delighted to see her.
"Hello, old friend, and I see Kahlan is with you. How are the children?" She said and noticed Kahlan went with Methos, returning moments later with a sticky apple. "Hello, Kahlan, do you remember me?" She asked the little girl, and smiled.
(S'reena)
"As for trouble, well you know me well. Here though I can keep my promise to my mom, so the answer to your question would be no. I haven't been able to create trouble here, but then again that is what I want. I heard Angel was on the last mission with you. I hope the girl wasn't too much for you to handle. Probably no more trouble than I was." She said and chuckled.

After Commander McCormic's answer to Commander Hope's question about trouble, Matti decided he had to find something out.
"Commander Hope, my name is Cadet 4th class Mattimio Kane. Maybe you could shed some light on a subject that was brought up earlier. Trouble. I take it that you have some stories about Commander McCormic and 'troubling situations'. Do you have time to share some of them with us? She seems reluctant to give us any ideas. I think she thinks we would use them against her."

Kahlan giggled at being addressed. "I am the first officer," she said, almost sternly. It drew a chuckle from her mother, after which Kahlan hurried to say that she was endeavouring to become an engineer when she grew older.
Kahlan nibbled away on the sticky apple the marine had gotten her; she loved apples with our without the sticky layer. Meanwhile, S'reena had found herself a seat and waved for the waiter's attention.
"The children are fine," S'reena replied, "though the can be quite a handful. I never planned on getting five you know, but now I wouldn't have it any other way. And Michael's elated at finally having a son...though he got two in one go." Kahlan, however, shook her head; she didn't remember Joan.
"Good to know you are finally growing up, commander," S'reena chuckled. She frowned at the mention of Angel Paris. "Yes she has gotten herself in quite a bit of trouble. She and her cadet both." She quietly explained what happened to her former shipmate. "I believe she's transferred to an operations position now," she added, "I hope she'll be happier there."
Now, the Romulan turned to the cadet and she smiled brightly. "Stories about Commander McCormick being trouble? Oh yes, I do have them, but if the commander doesn't wish to share them I don't think I should really tell you about them."
She chuckled as she cast a sideways glance at Joan. "Though there was that one time when she defected to the Maquis...." She trailed off, giving joan the chance to either cut her off, or encourage her to continue.

"Well, matured some, but growing up, I think that is completely out of the question. If you grow up too much, commander, you will never be able to have fun." She said and smiled wickedly. She noticed Kahlan didn't recognize her, so she let that drop. She knew it might be difficult to remember her when there were so many new faces, and the fact that Kahlan hadn't seen Joan for several missions now. She wondered if Kahlan remembered Leena, but didn't ask. Joan's thoughts wandered to her friend, and she wondered where Leean could be and what trouble she could be causing.
She put those thoughts aside, and just in the nick of time. She heard the mention of her name again and the word stories. She knew who was asking, but she couldn't fathom why this person was so interested in her past.
"I don't know about this topic, I have a bad feeling about it." She said, and raised an eyebrow mockingly. After a couple of seconds a smile spread across her lips, and you could tell she was reminiscing.
"Yes, that was some mission. I also remember a whoopie cushion with a certain person's name on it...." She said using the same tactic to get off this subject. She chuckled, and then took a sip of her drink.

"Well, if you are so set on not telling I guess I'll just stop asking." Matti said to Commander McCormic.
"I have enjoyed this group disscution but unfortionatly it is time for me to leave." Matti stated as he rose out of his chair.
"I hope I see you all in the future." he said addressing the group.
He noded to the Lieutenants, "Sirs."
He noded to the Commanders, "Ma'ams"
As he headed to the door he stoped to look back at the group that was left. <I hope none of them is the one I'm looking for. I like these people and that would just mess things up.>

"Must you go, we were just starting to have some fun." Joan said sad to see the cadet go. She knew they would all have to leave for their training mission. She didn't look forward to that, but knew it would happen whether she liked it or not.
(Kane)
She didn't get to say any more as he left the table. "Excuse me." She muttered and went to talk to him. She found him quickly and smiled.
"I know you were hoping for some of the dirt on me. You want to tell me why?" She said still smiling. ~If his reason is good enough, I might share something with him.~ She thought, and continued to smile as she listened to his reason.

"Well, to tell you the truth, I like you." Matti replied.
"Do you mind if we walk while I talk?" he said as he started to walk away. "Do you know why I joined Star Fleet? I had a friend, my only friend, when I was younger. We were inseperable up until about eight years ago. He decided that he wanted to join the 'great' Star Fleet. I was against it from the begining. So he joined any way but we stayed in touch as much as posable. About a year later I joined a mercenary group to help try to keep me out of trouble. Big mistake. It seemed trouble followed me around wherever I went. I moved from group to group, not staying in one place for too long, for almost seven years. One day I got a message from his mother saying that he was dead. Star Fleet told her that he had commited suicide. Anyone who new him as long as I did knows that he was not capable of doing such a thing. I spent nearly two years trying to find out what happened to him. I vowed that when I found the truth of the matter I would avenge his death. I found out the name of a few people who were stationed with him, but it seams everthing involved is gone, missing, or distroyed. People have been killed over this. I don't want to see you added to the list. Either by them or myself. So I figured if I found out some of the stories about some people I could judge if I could trust them or not. So I started to ask about most of the people who might have known him and are about the same rank as he should have been. Which is where you come in. He was on the list to be promoted to Lieutenant Commander. I'm sorry if this comes as a shock to you, but the only reason I'm telling you this storie is because I think I can trust you. And if I'm wrong, well, let's just hope I'm not."

She heard what he said, and hoped it wasn't what she thought. She didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings at this point.
"Sure, I am sure my feet and lips can move at the same time." She said and chuckled.
"What was your friends name? Maybe I have heard something about this, who knows. I am an admiral's kid, not that that says much. I have had some problems in the past with being a spy and trading sides when I am not suppose to on certain missions, but one of those was to help a fallen member of the ship's family. The other time I was having problems with my matrix, and still am somewhat. I have encountered a nasty virus, and somehow we took care of it." She said shedding a little light on past missions. She remembered a few of them really well like it was just yesterday that she was on them.

"I always had my doubts about telling any of this to someone, but you seem to be a person I can trust. His name is Jabez Burke. I'm sure you dont know much right now if anything, but if you find out anything be sure to tell me where ever I am. Don't go and get yourself cought up in something that you aren't prepared to deal with unless you have someone you trust one hundred percent by your side." Matti said as he looked sternly into her eyes.
"Now I must be going, but I will return from this training mission in due time. I have been patient for years, what is another few months along the road to vengence. I will talk to you when I return." Matti stated as he proceded to walk away from her.

"I appreciate your trust. The name doesn't ring a bell, but then again I don't know all of the people in the Federation. I don't know how much I can do, but I will do my best to find any information possible. It might take me awhile though, so you may not get it until you return from your mission. " She said, and heard what he said. She wondered if this was the right thing to do.
"If I help you though, you must promise me one thing. You must promise not to take this matter into your own hands. I will do everything in my power to get this wrong righted, but it won't do any good if you try to take on this person. You might get killed, and I don't think I would like to lose a new friend like that, especially if I could prevent it." She said hoping he would promise her.
(Matti)
"Well with that, have a good training mission, and I will see you when you return. I may even be there at the graduation too. Remember one thing, out there anything can take you by surprise." She said remembering the missions she was there for.

"I cannot guarantee that I will not face this person, but... I promise that I will try my hardest not to let my emotions get the best of me." Matti replied, hopping that would sufice.

Joan returned to the table, and noticed a lot of people had left. She noticed a man was still sitting there enjoying his snack, ans she smiled glad that there was still someone left to talk to. She went to sit back down when she noticed her cup empty and her snack empty. She walked up to the counter and ordered more.
"Hungry today, Joan?" Maria asked teasing her, she just smiled.
"Maybe, what other goodies do you have for me?" She asked thinking of teasing back. Maria pulled out a big round pastry and put it on a plate for her.
"Let me know what you think of that one, and something for a drink, more hot chocolate?" She asked, and Joan nodded again smiling while thinking how well Maria had gotten to know Joan's tastes. She looked forward to this new pastry, and thanked Maria when she had her goodies. She returned to the table, and noticed it was a cadet that remained.
"Do you mind if I join you?" She asked finding it ironic that the tables had turned. He had asked the same thing not too long ago.
