Chris walks onto the grounds in the starbase and began looking for someone to talk to. He walked over to a tree and sat down and took out a textbook and began reading.

Antonis arrived full of excitement with his heart full of dreams. The big day had finally come for him to join the Academy and make those dreams reality. He was quick to make as many friends as possible, and having been told that there would probably be more Deltans onboard, he asked the other cadets if they knew anybody else from Delta IV.

Charlotte was reading some extra information about the Intrepid-class. She was curious about the ship on which she will train. She heard a cheerful voice beside her. She lifted her head to discover a fellow cadet who looked like a Deltan. Indeed he asked her about other Deltan cadets.
“I’m afraid I don’t know any other Deltan cadet. But so far I know only two other cadets. By the way I’m Charlotte Boissey. Nice to meet you.”
<tag Antonis>
It would be nice to know at least a little the people she will serve with on the Hanson.

“I arrived here from my hometown Antos, one of the most modern cities of Delta IV a few days ago, and have made only one other friend so far.” Antonis explained looking down towards the ground. He had just filed his species-specific celibacy oath as required by the Starfleet, but was still nervous that the chemical application that was given to him earlier that week by Starfleet would wear off sooner than he was told.
“I’m a little shy, especially when meeting females due to being Deltan. You see… Most humanoid species are uncomfortable with our emphasis on sexuality under normal conditions. I’ve submitted my oath and applied the required chemical dosage, but the whole experience is still a little overwhelming.”
“I hope I haven’t scared you off already… You see… I told you I’m not too great with meeting new people” Antonis tried hard to explain to Charlotte that this was why he was interested in meeting other cadets of his species, with out giving off any wrong impressions.
In any case he liked Charlotte, and was glad to have made a new friend. The more people he knew in the Academy, the more settled in he would feel.

Charlotte invited Antonis to take a seat and listened carefully to what he was telling her. When he said he was shy she smiled to help him to relax.
“I’m not scared till you’re not trying to turn my head upside down. I’m only kidding.”
Still her cheeks got a little pinker while he spoke so freely about the overactive Deltan sensuality but her face kept the same expression.
“I suppose it’s very difficult to adapt to another culture in such an important part of intimacy. But I’m not sure that seeking your own people only company is the safer solution. If I can help you I will. To be fair I’ll tell you my own weakness… I’m not really comfortable with the military side of this job, weapons and all, that’s not really a good point for an aspirant officer, don’t you think ?”

You’re very kind and I thank you… Oh, I wouldn’t worry about the military and weapons and all of that stuff, besides, we are all here as researchers and ambassadorial peacekeepers, even though I agree that the Marines division are a little overwhelming to say the least. But you’re also my mew best friend here at the academy and I wouldn’t let anyone harm you would I?” As they turned and walked on Antonis was glad to have made a friend and hoped that all the other members he would meet along his newly started career would be at least a tenth as nice as Charlotte.

“A knight in armour ! I’ve got two so far. It seems that Starfleet is crowded with gentlemen. You’d tell me that’s Starfleet motto. I’ve got to introduce you to Paul Cain and J.C Isis, they make fine fellows.”
They walked toward the promenade.
“Is that the first time you leave Delta IV ?”

“I’d be more than pleased to meet them, thank you.” Replied Antonis enthusiastically.
“Delta IV… I suppose it is the first time I left from there, but I’ve been away for almost 9 years now. You see… Delta IV is a wonderful place with endless sunsets that contrast with the black volcanic rock and the white buildings.” His eyes seemed to smile whilst telling her of his homeland that he loved so dearly. Looking to find a picture in his pockets, he continued;
“Everybody knows their neighbour, and there is no crime or violence at all. Nor has there ever been a war on Delta IV. This is due to the neurochemical reaction that intensifies sensuality in each individual. It’s hard to explain but I can relate to what you said earlier about feeling uncomfortable with the military side of things. This concept was totally alien to me until I left 9 years ago.”
He paused for a second and looked up to see if he was boring the hell out of her, but she seemed very interested in his story.
“The biggest problem on Delta IV has always been the erratic monsoon season that sticks without warning once a year. These monsoons are capable of destroying small towns completely, and 9 years ago my home city was badly hit. My parents die in the storm and I’ve lost my younger brother too. His body was never found, but this is common for a disaster of this size.”
Antonis tried to keep the conversation factual to hide his sadness.
“Without having wars or violence, the monsoons keep the population from spiralling out of control. Well that and the fact that Deltan women need to be with the same partner for many years before their bodies are harmonically balanced for pregnancy. This is why Deltans are all monogamist and the divorce rate on Delta IV is non-existent.”
“I must have a picture of my city somewhere,” he continues, “I’ll show you it later. Anyway, That’s me in a nutshell! Sorry if it bored you, I do tend to go on and on about home sometimes. How about you, where’s home and what’s it like?”
As they continued to walk towards the bakery he realised that he missed home ever so much. Suddenly, his head started to pound again, the same way it did earlier in the morning.

Charlotte was pleased to hear Antonis talking about his home world. She had no time enough to study alien cultures but was interested in it. She liked to hear people talking about their own culture. Antonis was glad to tell and to describe Delta IV, his fine features were lightened by those happy remembering.
“It’s sounds indeed beautiful. I note it on my list of places-to-visit.” He carried on explaining what pacific society it was, sensuality annihilating violence. “I understand. There had been a similar philosophy on Earth in the past. Its worshippers were called the Hippies. Their motto was “Love not war”. I must admit that, if weapons are strangers to me, violence is not. I have a brother, an elder brother, and our childhood was full of fights.” She chuckled but she hoped this confession would not offence him.
The conversation turned to a sadder perspective as Antonis related to her his own family history. It was a tragedy.
“I’m sorry for your family. You must have felt lonely since.”
He didn’t linger on the subject so she didn’t insist.
“I remember I have studied this procreation particularity of your species. It seems that your physiognomy has chosen a rare alternative of evolution, preferring the solidity of a family structure to the size of the offspring.”
“You’re not boring me, quite the contrary. I will be glad to hear more about Delta IV. But I have a question if I may… Why did you not return to your home world during those 9 years ?”
It was her turn to share her memories about home.
“Home for me is Earth and especially a part of France called Normandie. It’s mostly a rural area, green grass and forests. It’s not famous for its sunsets but for its cows and its grey sky and rain. I love it anyway. I grew up in a city called Rouen, it’s an ancient city and there are still monuments from the past centuries besides the contemporary buildings. It’s like walking from now to the thirteen century in one street of distance. My parents still live there. My brother Guillaume is a Starfleet officer. I’ve studied biology at the Sciences Institutes of Paris and the Vulcan Science Academy and now I’m here. I’ve left everything I knew for real to seek science adventures… I just hope I’ve made the right choice…”
They were now in front of the bakery. The sweet smells were inviting customers inside.
“Would like a hot drink ?” She noticed a change in his expression. “Are you feeling alright Antonis ?”

“It’s these headaches that I’ve been having all day today. It feels similar to receiving telepathic ‘noise’ but I can’t unscramble what it means and where it is coming from. It comes and goes…” Antonis stopped and pinched the skin between his eyebrows. “Gosh it does smell good round here doesn’t it? What can I get you Cadet Boissey? A hot croissant with camembert and a glass of Calvados perhaps might top the hot drink, no?”

“Maybe it's coming from another telepathist on the base ?”
Charlotte burst in laughter when she heard Antonis’ menu. When she had calm down she replied, still smiling.
“I can see you already knew my region. But I’m not bold enough for this kind of snack. First I’m not so fond of croissants. I prefer some pains au chocolat. They don’t get along well with cheese. As for the Calvados…” she raised her finger warningly “it’s a strong alcohol and we’re on duty young man.” She carried on, murmuring “It’s already hard to find real Calvados on Earth, I doubt even a Ferengi could produce a bottle of it right here.” She left the conspirator ton to a more casual one. “I’d like better a mocha coffee and perhaps some fruit cake, what do you think ? I keep home delicacies in my memory, I don’t want to be disappointed.”

Antonis made his way inside and said hello to Uncle Max behind the counter before ordering and returning with two mocha coffees, a slice of fruitcake, a chocolate mousse, and a take-away box.
Charlotte seemed puzzled by the box… “It’s for Admiral McCormick” he explained “I hear the Admiral has a soft spot for the Tante Maria’s double chocolate éclairs!” “The Admiral has been ever so nice to everyone, I thought it would be a nice gesture.”

“Tante Maria told that to me too. I think she’s making a marketing argument about it. That’s very thoughtful to you. The more I get to know you the more I am happy to have you as a fellow crewman.”
She drank several sips of her sugared mocha coffee. She liked the sweetness of the mocha better than arabica. She didn’t understand why so many people were fond of that strong Klingon Raktajino.
“Where did you live since you left Delta IV ?”

“Oh here and there…Most places round the Beta-Quadrant I suppose. I was on Betazed for quite a while working as a 3rd pilot onboard an old energy-cargo vessel named the ‘Belmaj’. I was told it means ‘The beautiful May’ in a human language called ‘Norwegian’. The pay was dreadful and promotion was nowhere to be seen. Not to mention that the cook onboard had no idea of how to make breakfast!”
He continued…
“This place however, serves better breakfast than any other Federation ship, base or planet I’ve ever visited! I don’t know if you usually have breakfast or if you have been to Jayli’s Nest yet, but the food there is fantastic, and the views are unbelievable. It would be an honour if you would join me tomorrow morning Cadet Boissey.”

« Call me Charlotte » she said with a friendly smile. “I’ll be glad to accept your invitation. I like breakfasts. Maybe you could make me discover what the Deltans eat for breakfast. Is your head feeling better now ?”

“Much better now that I know I will not be taking breakfast alone tomorrow for a change.” Antonis said with a humble smile plastered across his face.
“I don’t want to seem rude, but I must say goodbye for the time being. I promised sickbay a regular 6 hour check-up for the neurochemical cream application they have started me on, and I’m afraid they’ll come looking for me pretty soon. I’ll see what they can do for this pounding in my head as well… might even be the dosage of the application, who knows?”
“I totally understand if you would rather meet at the restaurant, but it would be an honour if I could pass by your room in the morning to escort you make our way there together.”
