ON-Cadet 4th Class Derek May stepped off the shuttle that brought him to the impressive Starbase Conqueror. He had always wanted a career in starfleet, and this was his oppurtunity.
As a new cadet to the Academy, he wasted no time heading to his room and start making himself feel at home. As he walked, he was recieving greetings from people walking past him. This made Derek, or D-ROK, as his friends called him, very comfortable.
After he got lost, he finally found his quaters. A little spartan, but all in all impressive. He wasted no time decorating. Being a fan of 20-21st culture, he was hanging up posters of very, very, very bands like Guns N' Roses, Poison, Queen, ect.
After decorating, he had a little free time, since he already reported in. So now, he was bored.
"What to do" he asked himself. "Should I go to the holo-deck, play phaser tag, or just sit on my a$$ and listen to some good Guns N' Roses?"
After hard debate, he went to explore the station, as the wise lead singer of Poison, Bret Michaels, once sayd "Looking for Nothin but a Good time!"
OFF - Tag anyone who would like to help me get myself more confortable here.
Joan had a good day, and she didn't think anything could ruin her spirits. While walking through the halls she noticed something, and groaned. One guy was dressed in a tee shirt and cut off jeans.
Joan walked over to see what this person was thinking. "Who are you, and why are you dressed like that?" She asked not sure of anything at this point.
(Derek)
"I see now, that isn't regulation style though. You should be careful around here, not many have a sense of humor that unique," she said teasing him.
As Derek was walking through the corridors, he recieved some weird stares. He didn't know why. Maybe because he was wearing a Guns N' Roses shirt and cut off jeans.
Approaching him was a woman. An officer, in full uniform, with sort of a disgusted look on her face.
"Uh oh" he said.
"Who are you, and why are you dressed like that?" she said.
He paused, and looked at her pips: Commander First Class.
"Sir, uh, I am Cadet Fourth Class Derek May. I just transfered here. I am off duty and, uh, decided to make myself feel a bit more at home, sir"
She nodded, and grinned a little. "I see now, that isn't regulation style though. You should be careful around here, not many have a sense of humor that unique," and she walked away.
Feeling embarassed, Derek continued to explore the Base.
Joan continued to walk around, and decided that since her stomach was talking that it was time to grab a bite to eat. She walked into the Starbust and found a table, and then picked up a menu to see what she might like. She was about to decide when she noticed a young man in cuttoff and a tee shirt again. She smiled, and put the menu down. She noticed he was alone.
Joan got up and walked over to his table. "Hello, good to see you, do you mind if I join you?" She said standing by the side of the table. She didn't want to impose, but she thought she should ask. Something seemed off, but she didn't say anything.
Joan was enjoying her meal, and noticed the company wasn't bad either.
"So you like the oldies huh?" Joan said smiling sweetly as she teased him a little. "What else do you like?"
(Derek)
"Interesting, tell me, do you often dress up for these types of occassions?" She couldn't help but continue to tease him, and wondered if it was the company, the attire he was wearing, or her mother rubbing off on her that had her teasing him. She chuckled a little, and took a sip of her drink.
"So, what are you plans for later?" She was curious to see what he might do next, and she remembered the Hepta was leaving soon.
"Well, I studies a lot of 20th century culture. Like, there was this movie in the 1970's called "Star Wars" I saw it, and it was kind of cool. Good thing they're not real otherwise that death star would whoop our a$$."
"As for the future, well, I plan on extending my career in Starfleet. I always wanted to command my own ship, and starfleet seems to be right place to do it. I heard the Hepta was leaving soon. Is it possible you could get me on their for Tactical Field training?"
She listened but was completely lost to what he was saying. "Sorry, I haven't heard of anything like this before. I know nothing of earth history, past or present," she said, and noticed that he gave her a weird look.
"I was raised on a different planet, therefore in a different and diverse culture. I am still learning about my origions, which includes the culture," she said, and smiled. She wondered what she had missed from living on a different planet.
"What can you tell me of earth culture?" She asked still very curious. She hoped he could help her.
(Derek)
"If we go now, we might be able to catch the Hepta before it leaves. We can walk and talk, unless you aren't finished eating," she said pushing her plate away feeling very full.
"Well, it's sort of hard to explain. I mean, I've spent my whole life on earth and it's a little hard to summarize. I could tell you that, Earth is a peacful place. About 300-400 years ago, Earth used to always be at war with it self. We had 3 World Wars, hundreds, perhaps thousands of Civil Wars. We had terroristic bombings, notably a date called 9/11/2001. It was way out of hand when WW3 happened 2053. 10% of Earths population was killed. Then came Zefram Cochrane. He basically changed Thousands of years of constant bickering into one whole union in about a decade with Warp Drive. He made poverty, disease, and war slowly decline. Now, Earth is one. Everyone gets along with no problems. Hard to believe we were at eachovers throats a half a millenia ago"
She nodded, and seemed over whelmed with the history of Earth.
(Commander)
"Thank you, I'm done eating, yea, we could walk and talk"
"Wow, that is something," she said very stunned. She wasn't sure what else to say. ~Earth, war, destruction~ Her only thoughts, and she remembered a few things she didn't want to.
It had been a good day, and Joan had been busy trying to have fun with the local children. She remembered they were different from her, but she didn't mind. She had made some new friends, and they were trying to teach her to play Kodashkond, a game with a dozen balls attached to strings, and she found it very hard not to get hit. She attempted it several times, but each run ended up with her hit.
She was retruning home a little late, it was getting dark. She noticed she had a few cuts and bruises, and she hoped her mom wouldn't mind. When she got home she noticed no one was there. She looked around and yelled out for her parents. She ran back outside to see what was going on. A neighbor had noticed her, and looked sad.
"Come here youngling, I have something to tell you. Today there was some bad men, and they wanted to start a war. They took some people prisoner, and the place they were in was destroyed. Your parents were among the prisoners. You will stay with me tonight, and we will find a new home for you tomorrow. Maybe you can just stay with me until you are old enough to find the rest of your family," the old woman said. Joan stayed with her, and the authorities came in the morning.
Joan shook off the rest of the memory. She didn't want to relive any more of it. She wondered what would have happened if someone were there to stop it all, to change it as this Cochrane did. She barely heard him.
"Oh, sorry, was just thinking, let's go then," she said ready to leave the restaurant. They walked silently for a little bit. They entered the turbolift, and Joan told the computer where to go.
"You might want to pick up you stuff before you go to report to the ship. We can stop by your temporary quarters to pick them up before we head to the Hepta. The ship is leaving leaving dock very shortly, so we will have to hurry," she explains quickly.
A little bit later after a one stop to the cadet's quarters, they arrived at where the Hepta was docked.
"Well this is it, you should go report in, and quickly. Good luck on this mission. It was nice meeting you, and I look forward to us meeting again," she said, then turned to leave.
OOC: You might want to report in to the USS Hepta. They are leaving dock about now, so you will just be able to catch them.
