Mending the Pain
Post by TEG24601 on Mar 21, 2005, 1:16pm
The Majesty pulled slowly into Starbase Bellicose, Commander TEG was overseeing the docking. Commander Aarons expertly maneuvered the ship into the mooring slip. Sovas activated the the maneuvering tractors, and activate the dock connectors. TEG gave a full ship announcement, "Attention All hands, we have arrived at Starbase Bellicose. Everyone is granted shore leave for 7-days. Remember to check in with your department head before disembarking the ship. TEG Out."

(T'rok was sitting in the Bellicose mess hall drinking an iced coffee and eating a blueberry muffin when he got word that the Majesty had docked)
TEG: =^=Acting Ensign T'rok, we have just docked. However the ship is on a 7 day shore leave though you may want to get settled. =^=
T'Rok: =^=Thank you sir. T'Rok out=^=
(After finishing up his breakfast T'Rok was longing to see the Majesty. Through his two years of starfleet service he had never gotten the chance to serve on a Sovereign class vessel. After a long walk through Bellicose he finally found the transporter room.)
T'Rok: One to beam aboard the Majesty.
(The Transporter Chief tapped a few buttons on the console and the next thing T'Rok knew he was aboard the beautiful Majesty)
Majesty Transporter Chief: Welcome aboard the Majesty Ensign.
T'Rok: Thank you.
(T'Rok figured he'd drop his luggage off at his quarters before exploring more of the ship. However finding the quarters was an expedition of its own. Finally after about 25 minutes of looking around T'Rok came to a door and entered. The quarters were small and very cramped. This wasn't close to what he expected for quarters but as a Klingon he could handle it. Another officer entered the quarters)
Officer: Umm.. can I help you sir?
T'Rok: I've been assigned to these quarters.
(Walker handed the officer a padd with his quarter assignment)
Officer: Sir, you're on Deck 3 where the senior officers are.
T'Rok: Oh, my mistake...
(T'Rok was beginning to get impatient with all this looking. He got his stuff and continued looking when he saw an officer in a red uniform with a commander pip on. It appeared to be the CO, Kaylanna Cornette)
T'Rok: Excuse me Ma'am, could you tell me where I can find my quarters.
(T'Rok wiped the sweat off his face from all this walking)
<TAG: Kaylanna>
OFF: I know not an extremely interesting post but it'll do for an intro.

Sovas had just recently recieved the news that the senior staff were granted shore leave. He was somewhat relieved, he really needed the R&R and catch up on many hours of lost meditation. It had been several days since the captain had been sucessfully rescued from the brink. She was still recovering, albeit slowly. Thankfully, Sovas was not needed in the operation to restore the captains mind to her body, but he stayed there for the entire operation, nonetheless. Sovas decided to head on over to the starbase, to a small Vulcan café.
It was such a long distance that it took Sovas nearly 15 minutes to reach it. Sovas wound his way around the various restaurants and food carts, one including a small Klingon establishment. The surly Klingon chef in the back angrily cut up various pieces of meat, getting blood on his apron. He groaned and snarled as he cut a particularly rough piece. Sovas, being a Vulcan, groaned innerly in disgust.
"Another impulsive carnivore" He thought to himself.
Eventually, he smelled something familiar. The smell of Vulcan food immediately opened his sinuses and made his eyes water slightly. He looked at the sign which told the name of the small café: Solok's kitchen It was etched in gold and had the Vulcan style font. He walked up and ordered a fairly large meal and then sat down and ate the delicious food.

Having been buried up to my neck in Engineers from the Starbase for the first 4 days after we had docked I finally was able to get all of the repairs either completed or scheduled. Now with all that taken care of I set about the task of writing up my ships status report for the First Officer and Captain including all of the standard repairs and the retests that are required to prove them operational and the new upgrades that I was able to swing.
After Completing those tasks I stopped in my quarters to freshen up and then headed for the nearest transporter room to beam down to the starbase to get a little R&R at the Officer's club.

The EMH hovered over her for the umpteenth time.
“Aren’t you bored with looking at my insides?” Kay was perched atop a bio bed, arms folded; disgusted she was still in sick bay.
“For your information, Captain, I’m scanning your musculature. You were unconscious for quite some time. I need to ensure there is no atrophy to the peripheral nervous system.”
Kay rolled her eyes and sighed heavily. The holodoctor’s response was spoken in his usual sing-song tones. Kay always found it maddening. She regretted not taking the time to upgrade him a bit while she was flitting around inside his program. He could use a personality.
The EMH finished scanning and turned off his medical tricorder with a flourish.
“I pronounce you fit for light duty.”
“Thank heavens! One more day in here with you and I…” she trailed off, realizing it was useless conversing with him. She could complain all she wanted to him about his lack of bedside manner but only an overhaul to his programming would improve him. She slid down off the bed and wobbled a bit as she tried to steady herself. The EMH shot his hand out to help her.
“You see, you have to follow my instructions to the T. Your body’s been immobile and needs time to acclimate. You must take it slow for the next 48 hours.” Smugly, the EMH took her arm and escorted all the way to her quarters. Kay didn’t like to admit it, but she was glad he did for it was difficult going. She silently cursed her limited body and longed for the freedom she’d experienced while inside the Majesty’s bio-neural circuits. She’d never known such alacrity of mind and presence. If modern-day scientists believing human evolution’s next step was to become pure energy were correct, Kay was ready and willing to embrace it. But now, trapped in her physical limits, she felt tired after her brief walk down the corridors. She was happy to sink into her bunk and sleep.
---------------------------------------------------------
Each day, Kaylana went for a stroll to build up her strength. At 1300 hours, Hawk would drop by her quarters for a game of chess. Kay began to feel herself again with the help of Hawk’s daily visits. To each of their surprise, they found there was a residual link between them. Each game had resulted in a stalemate. Kay anticipated each and every move her friend was to make and Hawk hers. There was no way of knowing how long this link would last or if it would incorporate other thoughts. For now, they decided to keep it a secret.
----------------------------------------------------
Walking through the corridors one day, deep in thought, Kay heard someone address her.
“Excuse me Ma'am, could you tell me where I can find my quarters.” The Klingon wiped the sweat from his brow with the back of his hand. “I’m… unfamiliar with sovereign class vessels.” He stood tall and swaggered a bit to make sure he didn’t look uncomfortable having to ask for directions.
“And you are?” queried Kay.
“Ensign T’Rok. My assignment just came through as your Chief of Security.”
“You mean they’re finally listening to me at Starfleet headquarters and giving me more crew! I’m aghast!” Kay linked her arm into T’Rok’s, as much for support to her weak legs as in welcome. T’Rok was taken aback by her forwardness but allowed it anyway. “Your quarters are… where, Ensign?”
“Deck three, cabin 605.”
“This way, then. My cabin’s not far from yours… you can walk me there first.”
Uncomfortable being her escort, but unwilling to show it, T’Rok walked arm in arm with his new Captain.
As they walked, Kay told him why she needed a strong arm to lean upon. T’Rok’s mind eased as he settled into his role of aiding the infirmed. He found the Captain’s recent experiences intriguing but inwardly thought how he preferred remaining in his physical form. “I don’t think I would enjoy it,” was all he added.
Changing the topic, Kay said, “You realize that it just won’t do for me to have a Security Chief who doesn’t know his way around my ship.”
T’Rok bristled. “I’ve been informed we will be on R&R for the next few days. I have extensively studied the Majesty’s schematics and, as I plan to stay aboard the ship, I will have a working knowledge of all ship egresses and areas of security concern by…”
Kay cut him off, “I was only joking, Ensign.”
The Klingon flushed a bit but answered, “Nevertheless, it is true that I will surpass your standards before we leave spacedock.”
“I’m sure you will, Ensign.” Kay said, smiling. She then paused in front of a door. “Here’s your quarters… number 605. Mine’s right down there. If you wouldn’t mind taking a few more steps with me, I’d appreciate the company.”
“Of course, Captain.”
They walked the short distance to Kay’s cabin and she thanked him for his help. She then added, “As for not taking R&R, Ensign… may I suggest you make some time for meeting your crewmates before we leave Bellicose? I, for one, would love to throw back a mug of bloodwine with you.”
They both smiled and Kay’s door swooshed closed.
--------------------------------------------------------
After three days of recuperating, Kay transported to Bellicose near Admiral Clark’s office. He’d asked her to report to him as soon as she felt up to it. She found him buried behind his desk scowling at a report.
“Admiral?”
“Mary-Kay!” Jack leapt from his cushy chair and wrapped his arms around her in a friendly embrace. “Good to see you. And I’m certainly pleased the Majesty was able to save Bellicose. We received your communiqué but had little time to act upon it. I’m sure that if not for your quick actions, we’d be dust by now.”
“It wasn’t my doing, Jack. It was my crew. I’m so proud of them… especially my First Officer, Commander TEG. If it hadn’t been for his quick thinking, we’d all be goners. It was he that fired off that volley of torpedoes at the last moment. The torpedoes didn’t destroy the planet fragment, but it knocked it off its course. It should whiz by harmlessly in the next few days. My crew performed above and beyond, this last mission.” Kay couldn’t help but beam with pride.
The two old friends chatted for quite a while before Kay said goodbye and set off to find her bridge crew. She was looking forward to a little fun.

Post by Hawk on Apr 21, 2005, 9:16pm
Hawk knew not how many hours had elapsed since the daylight surrendered to darkness. As he lay in his bed, peering into the abyss, it certainly felt like an entire eternity had passed, but that was little more than incredibly posturing. The more analytical portion of Hawk’s mind knew that no more than three or four hours had passed. He knew as long as those highly logical and analytical thoughts raced through his mind that sleep would continue to evade him.
He wearily closed his eyes and focused all his mental energies on darkness before him. There was nothing to be seen, heard or analyzed accept maybe an earlier chess game with Captain Cornette. There was nothing but shadow and empty darkness, welcoming him into a restful nights slumber.
Or maybe not…
Relaxed as he was, Hawk found his eyes in utter defiance of his very soul nay his heart eager to open up with deep moving feeling for one special human female. Hawk knew that the link they shared in the Flyer had changed him somehow, but how would he handle it. On this long night, his eyes were not willing to accept sleep as a valid activity. Hawk realized he could force the issue with the likelihood of a few mild sedatives somewhere around his quarters and if not his bout of insomnia was nothing a decent cup of Falconian lettuce juice couldn’t cure.
Slowly, Hawk sat up in his bed to wrestle with his next course of action. The computer detecting the movement brought a few dim lights online, mainly artificial cave dwelling lights, providing Hawk with just enough illumination to scurry to the replicator for a cup of juice, or perhaps to realize the true extent of his quagmire where Kaylana was concerned.
In the distant past, when faced with a difficult decision Hawk would confer with his Falconian mate, who had died long ago at the hands of Human trophy hunters. He would share all the burdens hanging over his head and together they would come to an acceptable decision. However as the gentle illumination fell upon his pillow Hawk duly noted that he was alone and without the support of a mate. There was so much on his mind, it felt as if the weight of the Universe was on his shoulders, but there was nobody there to share in Hawk’s burden. Soon he feared his strength to suppress his emotions just might falter.
And suddenly, the computer on Hawk’s desk chirped a few cold tones. He immediately realized someone was contacting him but who would dare bother him at this late hour? There was only one way to find out.
Hawk rose from his bed, slipped into the feathery brownish-red robe draped over his desk, and then tapped a short sequence of commands into the computer. Starfleet’s emblem flitted briefly across the screen before his newly installed communication system projected a holo-image of Section Admiral Duke Nova at the foot of his bed.

~Meanwhile, back on Bellicose~
The Officer’s Club was abuzz. Several ships were in port for somebody’s wedding as well as for repair. The room was at near-capacity, Kay noticed, as she entered. It was noisy and darker than most OC’s she’d visited. She didn’t know whether that was for ambience or because the Starbase was in simulated night rotation. She crossed the length of the room to the bar and sat down upon the first open stool. She rested her hand on the table top and immediately she recoiled from the sticky, wet surface. Now she knew what the dim lighting was for – so you wouldn’t notice the mess.
“Barkeep,” she shouted to the Bolian tending bar, “When you have a moment…”
He finished filling a glass and walked over to Kay. “What’ll ya have, Commander?” he asked amiably.
“Artarian Snow Wine, please,” she answered. While she waited for him to fetch it, she did some people watching. Kay usually didn’t like crowds. However, she’d been so cooped up in sick bay and her quarters for the last week she welcomed the crowded room.
As she panned the room she caught a glimpse of her Engineer, Danny Rhymer. He looked up at her and started waving frantically for her to come and join him at his table. Kay smiled and signaled to him to wait a moment until she had her drink. In a few minutes, the bartender returned with her wine. She took it, swigged a quick swallow and ambled over to Rhymer’s table.
“Hello there,” she shouted so he could hear her above the noise in the room. “Good to see you’re enjoying yourself. I was beginning to think you didn’t have a relax mode.”

Smiling back at Kaylana for a second I replied
"What are you talking about, this is inebriation not relaxation!"
Catching my joke Kay laughed along with me.
"Its good to see you up and moving around again, I was getting tired of reporting to TEG these last few days"
With a serious look and an even more serious tone Kay replied:
"What about Commander TEG do you have issues with?"
Once again I sat there holding my smile off my face before I broke out laughing.
"Nothing at all Kay I am just messing with you."
to which Kay replied

(T'Rok stood in his quarters by the window. He actually had a good view this time. He was used to his quarters being stuck in some nook of the starship overlooking the stardrive section of the ship. T'Rok was never the type to waste away an LOA. After working a long grueling assignment aboard his last ship where he served as the nightshift Chief Tactical Officer he was ready for a little break. After meeting the Acting CO T'Rok was surprised at how relaxed and laid back she was. Most of his COs were not that talkative type and were all business for the most part.
T'Rok finished up unpacking his personal belongings and worked on the decor of his quarters for a little while. He was always very picky about the way he decorated. His quarters were not neat by any means but he did like to know where everything was. T'Rok got out of his standard starfleet uniform and put on some comfortable clothes so he could spend a little time over at Bellicose. When T'Rok left his quarters to the Majesty corridors all was quiet. Even over the past couple of hours the Majesty had noticeably emptied out quite a bit since he came aboard. T'Rok wasn't as big a fan of starbases as some people were. He would much rather be spending his shore leave on Risa. But he would have to make due with Bellicose.
When T'Rok got to Bellicose it was fairly loud. The station was obviously pretty busy with the number of ships docked. T'Rok didn't want to waste too much time doing holodeck simulations and the like. He decided he would much rather spend some time with his crewmates so he could get to know everyone he'd be working with aboard the Majesty. The only issue remaining was the he only really knew the CO. T'Rok went up to the nearest computer console)
T'Rok: Computer, locate Kaylana Cornette.
Computer: Kaylana Cornette is in the Officer's Club.
(T'Rok headed for the Officer's Club for a drink. When he arrived the club was very crowded, loud, and cramped. T'Rok eyed the bar at the side of the room. The Bolian bartender was mixing drinks as T'Rok approached him)
T'Rok: Ahem.
Bolian: Yes, yes. I'll be with you in a moment.
(T'Rok waited a few moments and the Bolian came back to him)
Bolian: What can I get you sir?
T'Rok: I will have a Lime Seltzer please.
(The Bolian raised an eyebrow)
T'Rok: Do you not have any?
Bolian: Very strange order for a Klingon..
T'Rok: Not to me sir, now are you going to give me the drink or not?
(The Bolian got to work)
Bolian: You know, I once knew a Klingon who ordered a lot of human food. Very strange individual. Very quiet. He would always order human food. Something called Milk Shakes.
T'Rok: Oh yes that is very amusing but I must be going.
(T'Rok left with his seltzer in hand. He scanned the room for Kay and saw her sitting in the corner with another man. She didn't notice him as she was involved in a conversation. T'Rok hoped he wasn't disturbing one of her dates or anything along those lines. He went up to the table)
T'Rok: Oh hello Commander.
(Kaylana pointed at T'Rok)
Kaylana: Oh Ensign T'Rok right.
T'Rok: Yes, thank you for helping me find my quarters earlier.
Kaylana: Care to join us?
T'Rok: Yes that sounds good thank you.
(T'Rok pulled up a chair and put his seltzer on the table. T'Rok saw another commander at the table)
Kaylana: Oh by the way this is Commander Rhymer.
T'Rok: It is good to meet you Commander.
