At the first sight of Dimmu Nelg, Rex already had felt a downright hatred against the man. He had heard those threats numerous times, and usually they ended up in faserfire untill one of the parties involved had to retreat.
The counselor no doubt would try the diplomatic way first though. "Ah well, if anybody can find a peaceful way out of this, than she'd be the one to find it."
Rex looked at the tacticaldata provided by the sensors. The alien ship seemed to be a typical miningvessel. Armed with only a few, but heavy, unknown type of firingweapons. Slow but also equipped with a somewhat bizarre but effective long-range sensorjammingdevice. No wonder, the Nevada hadn't picked these fellows up before.
As Grace was about to answer the Dimmu, Rex already had the fasers locked at the firingdevices of their adversary.

"Sir, I think you misheard me. I didn't come from the academy, in fact I have never been there. I come from a planet a few systems over. I saw your ship, and came to help in any way. What I didn't know was this is the ship I am to be serving on. I wish to help in any way possible. I need to assess a few things first though. I will be heading down to Engineering, unless you need me, sir." She says hoping this doesn't cause trouble. She gets a nod, and heads down to find out what is holding this ship together.
She arrives at her destination to find several people working hard. "Report." She says, and several officers look up and over at her.
"Ma'am, everything is operational. Several of the systems need to be boosted though as that last jump hurt us." A young man starts, and continues on in more detail.

***ON THE NEVADA***
Theel'zhiin was able to get back to the Nevada as the ship had returned almost to the same orbit it had been in before. The firelizard was perched by the navigations console when it tried to convey its images and messages to Grace.
Grace was in the middle of a confrontation and was not ready to receive. ~ Hold on my friend. I have to resolve this first. ~ That was the message Theel'zhiin got in return. He obliged, remaining perched where he was, waiting for things to unfold.

"Dimmu Nelg, I am Commander Grace Mitchell of the United Federation of Planets starship Nevada. We are here by accident and we have a few of our crew members on the planet below. Any assistance you and your crew could give us to retrieve our crew would be greatly appreciated. As soon as they have been returned safely to our ship we will leave your territory."
"Commander, is it! Who are you to ask our assistance! Just leave now or I will be forced to make you leave."
"Dimmu, as I said we do need to rescue our other crewmembers from the planet, then we will leave. I must ask you to give us time to locate them and bring them up from the planet."
"The storm on the planet is difficult, Commander, to get through. These storms usually go on for a long time, sometimes days. How are you going to find your crew and retrieve them?"
"Dimmu, I am hoping our little friend (indicating Theel’zhiin with her hand) will be able to help me contact our people on the planet."
"We will give one day, Commander. After that we will force you to leave with or without your people."
The commmunication was ended. Grace turned to Lani "I am sure Theel’zhiin has returned with an okay from Commander Steve to contact him. I will be in the Ready room, keep me informed of any change in the status with the E’rify’ks. You have the bridge!"
Grace and Theel'zhiin entered the ready room, Theel'shiin began an immediate telepathic link with her.
occ: More later, I have run out of time, sorry!

Turning his eyes away from the wall Frek gave Carrera a sceptic look. “I doubt the force of the water will be enough to wash the markings away. Besides, I used a waterproof marker.” Steve seemed to be in doubt for a few seconds, but quickly made up his mind. “It’s no use go wandering around the caves without knowing where we are heading,” Steve said, “That would be asking to get lost.” He gave the tricorder in his hand a sorrowful look and tapped on it. “It’s a shame the minerals and the metals rock are preventing us from scanning through them. Else we could have created a map for ourselves.” Frek looked at the fork before them. “So we are going back to that ballroom sir?” “Yes,” the Commander nodded, “I think that’s the best course of action at the moment. Perhaps we can learn something more about what is happening down here.”
Getting back in line again the groups started to make their way back to the large cave. With the colourful mist now died the way the huge cavern was shrouded in a gloomy twilight. The huge warp core like pillars still gave of some light, but it wasn’t much. The swirling inside had slowed down as well to a slow dance of colours. The group stared down from their plateau. “Perhaps we could get down on that side,” Chief Marine Hrisvalar suggested. He was pointed at a steep, but not totally un-climbable slope. Frek walked over the side where his fellow Andorian pointed and looked down. Surely it was at least thirty to fifty metres down. If he would fall it would leave a big blue Andorian blood stain. He stared at Hrisvalar with something of dismay on his face. “I’m not entirely sure I like the idea.” Commander Steve had positioned himself next to him, looked down and then addressed the group. “It is doable. The rocks don’t seem slippery here and there are enough places to hold yourself.” You only need to slip once to end up like squashed roadkill, Frek thought. “I never like rock climbing,” he mumbled, “Costs way too much energy.”
Carrera went first. He explored the slope carefully before carefully going over the edge. He was reached the bottom unexpectedly fast and it wasn’t because he fell down. “Piece of cake,” the sergeant yelled back up, his hands cupped in front of his mouth. “Easy for him to say,” Frek pointed out, “He seems to be a regular clip goat.”
One after another they descended. According to Frek it was a true miracle nobody their necks, but that might have been a slight exaggeration on his part. With his hands in his sight Frek stared up the wall after wiping the sweat from his brow. “Pff,” he sighed, “That was some climb. A lift would be quite enjoyable at this spot.”
As they walked away from the down the wall and more to centre Frek realized how big and high this giant cave actually was. They were half way between the cave’s wall and the nearest pillar. Still some of the remaining mist swirled around their feet, but most of the colours were missing. Frek felt dwarfed by the cavern walls and the titanic pillars towering over him. With his head in his neck he took a few paces backward. Something hard bumped against his ankles, or better said, his ankles bumped into something solid. With a yelp and his arms mowing through the air he tried to maintain his balance. To no avail. With a thumb and not very gently he landed on the floor. With a groan and some incomprehensible curse he came back up, resting on his elbows. A bit dazed he stared at his feet. “What happened? Are you alright?” “Yeah, I’m alright.” Frek rubbed his face with his hand. “I think,” he added. “I must have tripped over something,” he explained quite unnecessarily as it was the obvious. He got on his hands and knees and crawled and located the thing he fell over. He couldn’t see it because the fog, but it felt like some sort of metal. Thick and round. “Hand me a torch,” he replied holding up a hand. Melain handed over hers and knelt down beside him. “What is it?” “Dunno yet,” he replied switching on the light. Perhaps the bright beam of light could penetrate the mist. “Seems like a conduit of some sorts,” Frek replied. He turned his head and looked up to Commander Steve. “It seems to be running to that pillar over there.” “My tricorder didn’t register anything artificial earlier,” Steve noted, “Doctor, did you pick anything up earlier?” “No sir, but mine is a medical tricorder, programmed mainly for that field.” Frek had gotten back on his feet and took the tricorder from his superior officer. “Perhaps that fog-thing was interfering with the signal.” With some soft beep and clicks the handy little machine came to life. Frek held the device in front of him and swayed it around slowly. “Anything lieutenant?” “Just a moment sir.” “Look at this sir,” Frek said astonished. “Extraordinarily indeed,” Steve agreed. “What is it?” Hrisvalar inquired. “It’s the composition of the rocks around us,” Steve explained, “Mr. Thelev, would you care to tell the others what you see on the tricorder?” “Yes sir,” Frek replied, “As you remember the rocks are filled with minerals and metals. The scans show that the rocks surrounding this us are deprived of all of it. All that’s left is simple rock, not containing everything that could be considered useful or valuable.” “So we can contact the ship from here?” Melain asked. “No, signal’s still blocked.” “The mist seems to contain high traces of the materials contained by the rock,” Steve continued from where Frek had left off. “So what are we looking at?” Hrisvalar asked. Frek scratched his head. “Minerals are extracted from the rocks. And apparently by that mist has something to do with it. I’d say it looks like it’s being mined. And if this is some sort of mining operation they are using a mining technique far more sophisticated then anything we have in the Federation in that area.” “So who’s behind it?” Melain questioned, “And what have those bat-like creature have to do with it. Surely they can’t be responsible for this?”

Suddenly Melain was less interested in being found and more interested in finding out what the pipes where for. "Since we're stuck here anyway, let's see what we can find out about this mining operation, but first of all, Frek, did you hurt yourself tripping over the pipe?" Knowing Frek he would have.
"Stubbed my toe." Frek replied. "It feels like it got hit by a shuttle pod."
Melain rolled her eyes. "Take off your boot and we'll find out how big that shuttle pod was." Frek reluctently obeyed, seconds after he removed the boot a putrid smell filled the air . "Remind me to get you some cream for that when we get back on baord." Melain choked as she scanned his foot.
"So Doctor, will he live?" asked Steve sarcastically.
"It's a bruise, I could give him some pain relief, but personnaly I think he needs to learn a lesson about watching where he walks." Melain repied putting away her tricorder.
"It was coverd in fog, how could I see it!" Frek shot back indignenlty as he put his boot back on.
Melain was about to respond when the all too familiar sound of bat's wings met her ears. "Duck!" she yelped, the away team crouched down and waited for the sound to dissapear. The wing beats sounded irregular, almost as though the creature was injured
The sound grew louder as the bat creature entered the cavern, curiose Melain shown the light in her hands in the direction of the noise. Not expecting anything she nearly dropped her light when she did. The bat forze when the light hit it and collapsed onto the cavern floor. It has iridecent pearly white wings, and looked more like a giant moth or a butterfly then a bat, expect that the wings had the sharp, angular look of a bats.
Abandoning all sense of reason Melain Jumped up and headed to wards it. The ivory colored, glossy body heaved up and down and as Melain got closer she noticed it had three eyes, two on stalks, one in the center of it's head. "It's alright, I'm here to help." she coed, kneeling by it's side and taking out her scannder, if she could see the creature maybe she could scan it.
"Careful Doctor, remember what one of them did when it hit Zhuk!" Steve warned, the rest of the away team was picking themselves off the ground and heading in her direction.
"It's alright, she's sick." Melain replied, cautiosly she put out an arm to stroke the creatures head, it felt scaly like a snake, but seemed to have a light layer of fuzz. The Tri-corde rin her hand gave a soft and conctant beep. "Oh no, no!" Melain cried out as the creature let out a soft humm and shut it's eyes. Simultateously it began to vibrate utill it seemed as if it was falling apart into a trillion pieces, the alien became whisps of fog and drifted off towards the glowing pillars.
"What happend?" Frek asked as he came up beside Melain.
"It.. died." Melain replied, finding that to be the best description.
Carrera cut in "so all that fog..."
"Was the bodies." Steve finished.
"No... their Pagh." Melain corrected quitly.

As she had thought, Theel’zhiin had come back with an affirmative reply from Steve about a telepathic link. Theel’zhiin also informed Grace that the away team was slightly disconcerted with the ship having left orbit. "Not to worry, Theel’zhiin, I am going to try to contact Commander Steve now. You may feel free to return to Zhukarak or stay here on the Nevada."
Theel’zhiin's answer was obvious only to Grace as he 'poofed' away.
Grace closed her eyes, began her meditation inward. Shortly her mind began the search for the one she needed "Commander Steve! There you are!"
------------------------------------------------------------------------ ON THE PLANET
"Hello, Steve!" Steve looked all around him expecrting to see Grace standing next to him. "Don't worry, it just seems like I am close to you."
Steve began to speak out loud "Grace, what can you report is happening on board the Neveda? Zhuk's firelizard said you had left orbit"
The rest of the away team started to look around for Grace as well, they quickly realized that Grace was making a link.
"Yes, we had left orbit. We had located a gateway, but I refuse to go through it without the ships full crew compliment. Also, the Captain has turned over command to me. I have been unable to talk to him as he is currently unavailable. There is an alien mining ship in orbit. They call themselves the E’rify’ks. We have less than one day to bring you back to the ship or engage in negotiations, probably hostile. I do not like being in command, but I think the crew will get more nervous if I turn command over to someone else. The bridge crew is trying to get through the storm with sensors and communication without success. The E’rify’ks tell us these storms can sometimes last days. Any suggestions? How is the rest of the away team?"

With a groan, Harrias woke up. His head hurt. Really, really hurt. He suspected it was some kind of combination of a hangover, and a knockout blow from the Counsellor. He would have to talk to her about that, she could kill someone with that fist of hers. He climbed unsteadily to his feet, and once he had navigated to his replicator, he got a glass of water.
As he drank it, he slowly recalled what was going on, and more to the point what he had done. He groaned again, realising that it was unlikely Starfleet would let him keep his command after such an incident. The trill decided that he would try and recover what was left of his dignity.
After a stop at sickbay to get a headache cure, he headed back to the bridge. When he stepped on, he noticed that Grace wasn't on the bridge, but Lani, the martian night shift CO, inclined his head towards the Ready Room. Harrias threw him a thankful glance, and then followed his directions.
As he stepped in through the door to the ready room, he saw that Grace was either having a vision, sleeping, or using some other miscellaneous telepathic like thing. He took a seat a distance from her, and decided to wait until she was finished, not knowing what effect it would have to interrupt her.

In engineering, Lotrai sees nothing but a mess. She doesn't like it, and wonders who is to blame for this now.
"This place is a mess. Let's get it cleaned up people. I am giving you an hour to get this place looking like engineering should look. If I hear any complaints, then you won't be happy, lets get a move on... and I mean NOW!" Lotrai says looking around, and then heads to her new office.
Inside, she is just as upset as she was earlier. There are several reports on her new desk, and several more on the floor. The furniture is turned upside down, and miss placed all over the room. There is broken glass near the replicator, and she wonders what that could have been. She shakes her head, and goes over to her desk. Time to clean this mess up.

Shortly after the Captain had entered the bridge, Rex was relieved from his station.
The lieutenant made his way to the security-office. Half way there, he decided to first swing by engineering to meet the new CEO.
As he walked in, Rex saw the engineering crew cleaning up. In the CEO's office an acting ensign was doing the exact same thing.
"Hi there, I am Rex Bonar, the ships CTSO"
The woman turned around while putting down some pieces of glass on the table.
"Excuse me for the mess.. I am Lotrai the new CEO"
"Well I just thought I'd swing by to introduce myself. But I can clearly see you have your work here, so I'll leave you to it. "
Rex didn't wait for an answer and made his way to the door. In the door he turned around: "Oh I almost forgot..welcome aboard the Nevada."
With that Rex left engineering, noticing how much cleaner the place looked since he had been here.

"Hi there, I am Rex Bonar, the ships CTSO" A man says taking her by surprise. She didn't expect any of the crew to come by. She smiles, turns to greet him, and drops some glass on the table for now not being able to find the nearest waste bin.
"Excuse me for the mess, but I haven't been here that long. I am Lotrai the new CEO. It is good to meet you, sir." She says quickly.
"Well I just thought I'd swing by to introduce myself. But I can clearly see you have your work here, so I'll leave you to it." He says, and she is disappointed he is leaving. Before she can say anything he is heading out.
"Oh I almost forgot..welcome aboard the Nevada." He says just after stopping in the door way. Lotria smiles and thanks him before he leaves.
She continues to clean up, and then gets cut with some of that glass. She tells her men to continue to clean this place up, and that she wants a full report of what has been going on for the last couple of, well however long this ship had been out. She knows she needs to hurry to sickbay and then get back to work. She heads there to see about this.
In sickbay, the emh looks at her hand, and then shakes his head.
"What did you do now? This crew seems to need me more than I like. Oh well." He says quickly and then gets to work on the cut. He tries to find her medical files for the ship, and finds none.
"Okay then doc, thanks. I need to head back to engineering." She says starting to leave.
"Oh no you don't. You need a physical." He says cutting off her path. She sits down again and sighs knowing there is no way out of this.

"No... their Pagh." Melain corrected quitly.
"I believe she means their souls or life essence, depending where you come from." Cmdr Steve translated. Just then Cmdr Steve was startled until it became clear to him, and eventually to everyone else, that Counselor Mitchell had established a telepathic link. Theel'Zhiin had also reappeared and was very interested in the 'fog' going through the pillars.
Everyone was listening intently to the Commander's half of the conversation while he filled in Counselor Mitchell's half. It seemed astonishing.
"If I understand this correctly..." Zhukarak was addressing everybody. "...we have come across a being whose life essence is being mined by the E’rify’ks? This has to be stopped immediately and I am now wondering if somehow the E’rify’ks are the cause for these beings dieing just so they can be mined."
"I agree that they have to be stopped. If we knew what their Pagh was being mined for, perhaps we could offer the E’rify’ks an alternative. We would be saving these beings without causing bloodshed with this new race. Also we would reap the benefits of this new race if we were able to get them to trade with the Federation." Cmdr Steve and everyone else was mulling over Lorre's suggestions.

“I don’t know,” Frek said somewhat doubtful, “The entities themselves don’t seem to hold anything special.” “But they must be using them for something,” Melain interrupted, “They are clearly drawn towards the surface.” “These rocks contain plenty of minerals and ores,” Frek continued, “But they show up on our tricorder scans as plain rock after the mist, or the life essence, has passed through them.” He paused for a few seconds give the others a few seconds to let it pass through their minds. “In other words, it’s not the life essence they are mining. It the life essence they are mining with.” It seemed completely logical and it concurred with their readings. Melain looked shocked. “You mean they are killing these life forms on purpose to use they souls for their mining operations?” Frek nodded softly. “He might be right,” Commander Steve said slowly. He lifted his head up and directed the group directly. “We simple have to put an end to this.” Carrera gestured at the pillars. “If those are the generators to kill the beings we’ll have to find a way to shut them down.” Zhukarak Hrisvalar agreed with his right hand. “We’ll have to contact the Nevada. We don’t have the means necessary with us at the moment.”
Back on the ship it seemed like a nice idea. Go down to the planet, get some fresh air. Perhaps have some fun in the water. Things have turned out rather differently, Frek thought. He stared at the pillars and at the creature lying dead before them and shifted his gaze to Steve. The first officer was trying to get in touch with Counsellor Mitchell again. They needed to inform the crew on the Nevada about what they had found out. He wondered who they were up against.

"If the miners are using the Paghs, then they aren't going to be too happy about us putting a stop to it. We should prepare to meet a fair bit of oposition." Melain pointed out.
"Carerra and I should be able to handle things." Zhuk replied. Melain was beginning to understand why Marines where sent on even the simplest of away missions, things could get complicated fast.
"From the scans I got of the dying creature I may be able to configure my tri-corder to pick up their biosigns. That will give us a better Idea of what exactly we're looking at, not to mention it may help us read these mining tubes as well." Melain offerd.
"Do you think the creatures are sentient?" Frel asked aload, a question also plaguing Melain's mind.
"I haven't seen any signs that they are, but just because they haven't created vast cities doesn't mean they aren't civilized." Melain replied.
"Those columns that the souls seemed to congrigate around, They don't seem entirly natural. If we could get a better look we might fond that they've been carved from the stones." Frek explained.
"First off we stop this massacer, then we can play tourists." Steve replied.
"Agreed." Melain added, before turninf her attention to her tri-corder to begin the modulation.

Grace's link with Steve was very informative. She was also aware that Harrias was sitting, waiting for her to finish the link. This was the first time she has had the opportunity to attempt this complicated a facet to her mind control. When Grace would establish a link in the past she would concentrate only on the link. Now, she felt she needed her mind to be in two places at once since she was currently 'the captain'. It was proving to be difficult but manageable.
Harrias began to notice that Grace appeared to come out of the link, he didn't know that she was maintaining a small link incase Steve had any updates.
"Well, I see that you are some what coherent. Better than the last time I saw you!" Grace said to Harrias
"I must tell you, Grace, that you can pack quite a punch."
"Yeah, sorry 'bout that, I was trying to knock on the door, not your chest. Are you going to put me in the brig, now? You would be well within your rights to do so, I hit a superior officer."
"Not today, perhaps tomorrow. I think I should apologize for putting command on your shoulders. It felt all somewhat overwhelming at the time. I am better now and am willing to take command back."
Grace handed him his pip back with absolute relief showing on her face. Harrias gave a small chuckle, and felt quite embarrassed about his previous behavior, but before he could say anything to explain, Grace spoke first.
"No need to explain, there are more important issues at hand." As she began to explain all that has happened on the ship and the planet and her telepathic link with Commander Steve, she seemed to go into another trance, sensing Steve's attempt to link again. Grace held up her hand to Harrias.
He understood immediately that she was in a link and he could hear her side of the conversation with Steve. As he listened, he became appalled at what the E’rify’ks were doing. Harrias wondered if Grace would be able to relate information from him to Steve, he didn't know if Grace was aware of his presence or not but he thought he should try.

Having finally passed the physical, she manages to escape sickbay before the doctor can come up with anything else to do to her. She decides they can handle things in engineering, and heads to the bridge to see what her new station looked like. She hoped it wasn't a complete mess like everything else was. She sighed and enjoyed the quiet ride of the turbolift.
On the bridge she makes her way over to her station only to find several lights blinking. She looks over them and shakes her head. She realizes she should have known better than to find the engineering station in working order, instead she has chaos to deal with. She sits down to get to work, and falls into it deeply. It isn't long before she notices someone standing just to her left. She looks up and smiles.
"Is there something I can do for you, sir/ma'am?"

The Andorian Colonel and his human counterpart, SSgt Carrera, could not stand by anymore. Not after hearing and coming to the conclusion that these mysterious beings were being used to help mine whatever it was that was being mined. Not just being used, but possibly being put to death for it was their ‘essence’, the mist, that was being used.
Zhukarak addressed Cmdr Steve. “Sir. I think it is imperative that we destroy those pillars immediately. Put a stop to the E’ryfi'ks ability to use these creatures for their own profit.”
“I have to agree Colonel.” Cmdr Steve was distraught. He didn’t want to cause any unnecessary conflict, but he couldn’t allow this any further. “Take out those pillars Mr. Hrisvalar!”
Together with Jason Carrera, Zhuk started to look at the week points of the pillars. Since they had come to this planet for a scouting expedition for fruit and other foods, they did not pack any of their marine assault gear. A couple of charges would have done the job fairly quickly. Instead they had to survey the pillars and take aim with their rifles to make them tumble and fall.
After their survey Zhuk gave the command for everybody to get back and find some cover. “Fire!” was his final order. He and SSgt Carrera started to shoot at certain sections and the pillars started to break apart and were tumbling down. It was a loud roar as the debris all went rushing to the ground. After the dust settled, the pillars were no more leading up towards the rock that was being mined. In fact, some daylight was shining through as the pillars were not just going to the rock, up above, but all the way through it.

Frek appeared from behind the rock he used as shelter while the Colonel and Carrera took down the pillars. He stared at the remains lying around scattered across the floor. Apparently it had is effect. The colourful mist had almost entirely disappeared. “I hope we did the right thing,” Frek said softly. “Of course we did!” Melain didn’t seem to have any doubts about it. “We should have consulted with the ship before taking these actions,” he insisted, “We just destroyed an E’rify’ks structure. They might not respond very well to this. They might see this as an act of war and that is something we cannot afford at this moment.” “We saved lives,” Melain replied. “That’s what counts.” They walked over towards Hrisvalar and Carrera who were inspecting the damage they inflicted. Frek wasn’t sure if he agreed with his friend at the moment. They were alone in a galaxy very far away from their own and picking a fight with the first alien species encountered wasn’t a very good start. He would have preferred to pursue a more diplomatic course of action, at least until there was clarity on the whole matter. The ship still wasn’t at full strength after their recent encounter with the Iconians and if they were lucky they would be able to hold of the mining vessel, but if they brought in reinforcements the Nevada probably wouldn’t stand a chance. They would have to resolve this or run like hell. Commander Steve was already standing besides the two marines and pointed at the hole in the roof. It was clearly day, but the blue of the sky was still blotted out by the gloomy grey of the clouds. Occasionally they parted a little and let a lone beam of sunlight touch the surface. Steve gave his officers a glance as they positioned themselves beside him. “Seems like we had the worst of it. Try to contact the Nevada; we might get through this time.” The order was directed at Frek. The young Andorian helm officer didn’t reply, but tapped his combadge. Nothing put static and the occasional whistle caused by the atmospheric conditions. “Sir, if I could borrow the tricorder for a moment?” “Of course Lieutenant.” Steve handed over the device. Frek took it from the commanders’ hands and switched it on. “If I boost the comm. signal with the tricorder we might be able to contact the ship,” he explained. He sincerely hoped he would be able to get through. With a little luck they could be beamed back to the ship. His foot started to hurt more and more with the minute. There was no doubt in his mind that his toe had swollen beyond proportion. It could be called a miracle it still hadn’t burst out of his shoe. A bath didn’t seem like a bad idea as well. Preferably before the E’rify’ks would blow them out of the sky as Frek was sure would happen. No use in dying all dirty. The combadge bleeped. “You getting something?” Steve informed. “Just a sec.” Frek tweaked the connection between the tricorder and the combadge. “Done,” he declared with a stupid grin on his face, “Let’s give it a go.” He activated the combadge and hoped the Nevada was still there and not destroyed by the E’rify’ks. What he could gather from to the messages relayed from the ship through Theel’zhiin they seemed like a somewhat not so easy going race. And of course they might be a wee bit angry at the moment.
“We are more than angry!” Dimmu Nelg shouted infuriated looking more than a little angry as well. “You have deliberately destroyed on of our facilities. This is a clear act of agression towards our species!” On the Nevada bridge Captain Harrias Jira looked away from the main viewer towards his operations officer and signalled to cut the audio. “What is it Mr Jenkins?” “Sir, I’m picking up a signal from the planet,” Jenkins looked relieved, “It’s the away team, all accounted for. They managed to boost the comm. signal enough to break through the atmospheric blockade. Jira was relieved but kept a straight face. “Tell them they have to wait.” He gestured at the E’rify’ks commander on the viewer who seemed to have reached a new boiling point. “We’ll have to take care of this first.”

Looking out past the E’rify’k commander, Captain Jira saw a bridge that was similar to his own, a military bridge, not a freighter one. He was no longer in any doubt that the only way out of here would be a diplomatic way, not an aggressive way. The Nevada might be able to fight its way past this ship, but it could certainly not face any others like it. And Harrias was not going to risk this being the only one. He looked back to the commander, Dimmu Nelg, he recalled.
“Commander, I am sure that my crew would not have deliberately destroyed your operation, unless it was dangerous to all down there.” He sighed, knowing that his words were the truth, even though it was a delicate one. The alien captain looked at him, knowing the reasoning behind the words, and dismissing them.
“Captain, that planet, and all on her are part of the E’rify’k Consortium. Our losses, both material and personnel must be reimbursed. I believe a suitable payment would be your crewmembers on the planet.” He said, starting to laugh.
Jira immediately indicated to close the link with the ship. As soon as it was gone, he turned to Jenkins. “Get me the away team, now!”
The young operations officer almost stepped back, such was the strength of the order. In seconds, the comm link was buzzing, and Steve’s voice came across, awkwardly, and difficult to hear.
“Cap—in. We have destr---d the fac—it-, an…” At that point the Captain cut him off, instead sending his own words down.
“Steve, you are in grave danger. The E’rify’k want to claim you as payment for what you destroyed. We can not get a team down to you, or beam you up until the storm breaks, and are unsure if they can. Get yourself somewhere safe until we can get you.”

"I knew they wouldn't like that!" Frek exclaimed after hearing the Captain's reply.
"I could care less if they liked it, they're cold-blooded murderers." Melain replied. The Minors actions reminded her of the Cardassians on Bajor, except in a much more seriose manner.
"Let's not stand here and debate. The miner's want our blood now, and standing here in the open is not exactly a good hiding place." Steve cut in. "Any suggestions?"
"We need to get deeper into the caves. The rocks seem to disrupt our signals from the Nevada. Maybe they do the same to the Miners'. Not to mention we'll have several miles worth of rock to shelter us from any spaceal fire." Major Zhuk suggested.
The idea of heading deeper into the caves did not appeal to Melain who was looking forward to returning to the ship. However more time on the planet would also give her a chance to get more info on the strange bat like creatures.
Before they could all discuss Zhuk's suggestion there was an earth shaking boom. The cavern cealing began to give way. "We have to get out of here!" Carerra shouted, and the away team darted down the nearest tunnel, heading downward into the dark.
They ran for several minutes using a single light to find their way. They didnt here anymore explosions. "I geuss it was a warning shot." Steve said as he lit another one of the rifle lights.
"I wonder if we'll run into any more of those bat things now that we destroyed the collumns." Frek wonderd aload.
"Probably, I think we should name them, they wren't much like bats." Melain proposed, remembering the dying creature.
"How about cave moths." Frek suggested as he broke out a ration pack.
Melain rolled her eyes. "My aren't we creative."

Rex had been ordered back to the bridge due to the latest events.
As he entered Leo informed him of the developments.
Bonar made his way to his station, nearly tripping over the panels near the engineering station. Deep buried under the panels he distinguishes the figure of Lotrai.
"Well I see you're familiarizing yourself with the ship in a rather hands-on manner."
The ensign didn't reply to the lieutenant. Clearly she doesn't appreciate his sense of humor, or she's just to focused on her work.
At his station Rex makes a deep tactical scan of their opposing vessel. He notices some corruption with the data in respect to the previous scan he had made.
Bonar tries to enhance the imaging and scan resolution, and he detects a sophisticated holographic based partial cloaking device aboard the ship.
The simple technique the cloaking device employs poses a remarkable contrast to the holographic design. Within seconds Rex is able to reveal what is kept hidden.
Now the ships weapons abilities are revealed in full. There are several quick-rechargeable faserlike cannons. No doubt that these weapons would prove to be a drain on their energy reserves.
But the thing that got Rex's attention most is a disruptor/plasma torpedo hybrid. From the design the lieutenant figured that it would be nearly twice as slow as a standard Federation torpedo, but it's yield would be approximately five times as high.
When this vessel would engage in combat it probably would have one strategy: cripple the enemy's propulsion and defenses with the cannons and finish them off with the hybrid.
Rex shared the new information immediately with the bridge-crew. Harrias ordered shield-reinforcements to the nacelles and thrusters.
"Find countermeasures Lt. and pray that we don't need them."

With the realization that the enemy vessel was even more heavily armed that he had believed, Harrias hoped that it would not come down to a straight firefight between the ships. He suspected that the E’rify’k commander similarly wanted to avoid conflict, at least until more of his vessels were present.
“Mr Jenkins, employ jamming devices, I don’t want them getting a signal out to the rest of the fleet, which I suspect they have. The E’rify’k Consortium does not sound like a single ship.”
“Aye sir”, the reply came back, and Harrias smiled how the speed with which the crew interacted. He turned to the engineering console.
“Ensign Lotrai.” There was no response, and he repeated it a bit louder. “Ensign Lotrai.” This time, her head appeared over the top of the console, knocking against it on the way up. Jira winced as he heard the bang, but she had seemed not to notice.
“Sir?”
“Would it be possible to reinforce a shuttle so it could get through these storms, or maybe even get down halfway, to a level where it is possible to beam the away team back up?”
The Chief Engineer looked at him, her face going through a spectrum of expressions. He raised his eyebrows at her.
“Maybe. I’ll get to work on it.”
“Good. Mr Bonar, help her, the shuttle may need tactical reinforcements too. If the E’rify’k send a vessel down, we want to be able to survive it. And remember, we don’t have much time people.” The pair nodded at him, and headed off to get to work. The trill turned to Grace, who had emerged from the ready room, and was sitting in her seat to the left of his. He walked over, took his seat, and then leant over towards her.
“Thanks for your help earlier, Captain.” He winked at her.

Lotrai and Rex walked over to shuttle bay one silently. Both officers were clearly thinking about the modifications they had to make, if the shuttle were to stand any chance against the enemy.
Half way down, Lotrai broke the silence between them;
"Obviously the shuttle doesn't need to have long-range capability, so i can disengage warp-capability, and use the extra power to boost the transporters."
Rex was somewhat surprised by the sentence which broke the silence. In his head he was trying to devise a way to improve the shuttle's defensive capabilities.
"At what height do you think you'll be able to extract the away-team?", Rex asked Lotrai.
"Well that depends, why?"
"It'll give us some insight into the time-frame the shuttle has to withstand the storm or a possible attack."

She was happy to finally be doing something to help here, as she hadn't done much for the crew yet. Sure she was trying to get engineering back to normal, but that wasn't part of the mission. That was an every day activity for her now. She was happy to be heading down to the shuttle to work on it, as it gave her a break from her new engineering problems. She had broken the silence, and had heard where Rex was going with this.
"Well, sir, I might be able to get them at about a hundred kilometers away, but unless we find some way to withstand the storm more, then maybe we could do it higher up. We would have to find a way to boost transporters, the shuttle's hull, and the away teams signal. If we could get one of us down with them, then maybe we could use transport enhancers to help us with this. We could put up a set on our shuttle to beam them down, and then we could wait until we have scan and find them in place. It might help get them out of there quicker. Still that leaves transporters, scaners, and the ship's hull. Without warp we can boost some systems. Are there any other systems though that we won't be needing? We can use them to boost the systems we do need. Since this will be a short recon mission, then do we really need the replicator? I plan to take out any extra lighting we don't need as well. We can use our eyes and dim light to help us. Besides the consoles are lighted anyways." She says wondering what he thinks about all this.

“We don’t even know if they are sentient,” Frek said. “For all we know they probably don’t care how we call them.” “I think we should give them a proper name,” Melain replied accepting a piece of the ration pack handed to her. “And sentient or not, they are still living creatures.” Frek took a bite of the rations and shrugged. “I like cave moth,” he said with his mouth full, “I saw some moths on Risa which happened to be very beautiful. They glowed in the dark and stuff.” Melain stared at Frek as he pushed a reasonably big piece into his mouth. “You shouldn’t eat like that, you don’t want to choke on it do you?” “Ahmfoin,” he said wiggling his antennae’s. He chocked. Frek began to cough loudly, spilling most of the food in his mouth through the same opening it entered. The coughs echoed through the corridors, gaining in amplitude as the sounds waves were bounced back in plural. “What’s the matter with him this time?” Steve asked Melain with a sigh as he pointed towards the Andorian. “Ahmokey,” Frek gurgled between coughs. He hoped he was okay. It would be a rather bad thing if he would choke to death before the E’rify’ks. As he came to think of it, it would be rather bad if he died at all. At least his parents, hopefully, would see it as a somewhat disappointing point in his career. Fortunately for Frek he didn’t choke to death. After a few minutes he managed himself to calm down a bit and to only let out a cough once or twice a minute instead of five-hundred times a minute. “We have to try to get to the surface,” Steve said. He tried to relay that sentence a couple of times earlier, but it was lost in all the coughs echoing around. Frek nodded and gasped for air. “It’s impossible to get a comlink to the Nevada from here, let alone them being able to beam us up. That would even be impossible if they were right on top of us.” “I don’t think we’ve been in this cave before,” Melain noted. She had taken in the surroundings and noted they were different to the ones they had been in before. It was a mystery to Frek how she noticed it, to him all the corridors looked more or less the same. “It doesn’t really matter doctor,” Steve said, “The entrance we used to get in was blocked anyway. We’ll have to find another way.” The Commander looked around the group. “Mr Hrisvalar you take the lead. Sergeant you close the line.” The away team formed a line and started to make their way in the hope to reach the warm sunlight. Unless the storm was still raging of course, in that case they would reach the cold wet rain. “I really hope we get out soon,” Frek mumbled, “My foot hurts, I’m hungry and those ration packs really taste pretty awful.” “It’s nutritious,” Melain pointed out. Frek looked at her in dismay. “Everyone knows nutritious food tastes horrible. I need something good.” “Ah, another good motivation to get back to the ship sir,” Sergeant Carrera said with a grin from behind him. “Hmpf,” Frek puffed as he walked along.
