David and the Captain had talked through his plan for separating the three pieces of the bomb .. Tan, admittedly, wasn't one hundred percent sure it would work, even if they could put enough distance between the three parts of the ship. But it had to be tried, and with the First Officer still in Sick-bay, he had no choice but to do as asked when Steven spoke ..
"Now .. In order for the ship to go to MVAM I need people to pilot the three sections of the ship .. I will obviously be piloting the Primary section .. I have asked Mr Halthor to assume command of the tertiary section .. With Mr Wong holed up in Sickbay the task of piloting the secondary section falls on your shoulders .. Think you can handle it ?"
"Yes Sir .. I'm sure." David said.
"Good .. Well I will let you go and get things sorted .. I want the ship ready to separate in 15 minutes."
"I'll inform Commander Halthor and have all relief crew's manning their stations when you're ready to go Captain." Tan said, almost jumping out of his seat ..
"Take it slow David .. This is new to everyone .. So I'd like it to go right first time OK."
"Aye Sir." David replied, reddening slightly .....
As the two men left the ready-room, David tapped his Comms badge ...
=^= Commander Tan to MVAM duty crews .. Please report to your assigned stations immediately .. This is NOT a drill .. I repeat .. This is NOT a drill .. All MVAM personnel to their stations .. Tan out =^=
With the call made, Tan headed for the secondary hulls' Bridge ..........

Crystal was still next to the Tauri Burst in the cargo bay. The two timing columns were now strapped to antigrav sleds in preparation for their move and were waiting on opposite sides of the bay while a clear transit was prepared for them. That part of things at least seemed to be under control.
She was still trying to figure out the best way to get at the undoubtedly booby trapped detonator.
=^= Commander Tan to MVAM duty crews .. Please report to your assigned stations immediately .. This is NOT a drill .. I repeat .. This is NOT a drill .. All MVAM personnel to their stations .. Tan out =^=
Crystal heard the orders over the comm system. After the Captain had mentioned MVAM the memory of filling out a module assignment for her staff had slowly filtered back to her. The newly promoted Lt Merdon would be on the secondary module and Ensign V'Sel would be on the tertiary. That was as far as she remembered. She knew she would have to check the rest of the assignments later, assuming she got a later.
Crystal shrugged away the unpleasant thoughts although she realised that it was getting harder to do that the lower the numbers on the counter in front of her got.
"Um...Crystal", she looked up abruptly to see Ensign Tonja Erikson waiting nervously in front of her. "I'm assigned to primary module in event of MVAM as secondary shift for science and enginneering. So I came down here to find out where you wanted me to go." She held out a cup of coffee in Crystal's direction and then looked at it as if only just noticing she was holding it. "Oh and I brought this for you. Start of an apology.."
Tonja was clearly nervous she shared with Crystal a tendency to babble when uneasy. Crystal accepted the coffee and stretched for a moment pausing to watch the first of the timing columns leave the cargo bay. She didn't really want Tonja here but maybe it was better to be able to keep an eye on her.
She held up a PADD with the most recent scan of the Tauri brust display on it. "As you can see the device is armed and counting down. We need to get the detonator out and then disarm it."
"I see," Tonja said staring raptly at the schematics. "It looks like a very adapted Mark V L series detonator, most likely motion sensitive..."
"I didn't know you knew anything about explosives?" Crystal said wondering hopw much else about her staff she didn't know.
"My father was involved in reconstruction work after the war and he had to deal with plenty of explosives then and as a child in the Bajoran resistance. I know a bit from him but my knowledge is a little outdated."
Crystal stared at the Tauri Burst again suddenly grateful that the Professor had got at least some of his parts off the shelf. She smiled "Fortunately large chunks of this are not recent technology."
Tonja and Crystal continued to pore over the plans and take more measurements. This was going to be a tricky job.

Tiberian listened carefully, nodding as he listened to Biers. When the counsellor had finished, Tiberian spoke.
"I respect your loyalty to the ccrew Mr Biers, such is to be admired. But if we are engaging Multi Vector Assualt Mode, and there is a bomb that could potentially kill us all, I think now might be a bad time to pester the Captain. Perhaps include these thoughts, and the thoughts of the crew to him in your report at the end of the mission. It's up to you but that's what I think"
<TAG Biers>
"Very well then. I realise that technically I can't give orders counsellor, but i would recommend that you remain with whichever part of the Olympia has the largest crew compliment, and distribute your staff evenly amongst the other sections. Walk the floor and try nad keep everyone's spirits up; say that we're going to be fine and what not"
<TAG Biers>
=^= Commander Tan to MVAM duty crews .. Please report to your assigned stations immediately .. This is NOT a drill .. I repeat .. This is NOT a drill .. All MVAM personnel to their stations .. Tan out =^= The intercom announcement interrupted Tiberian's thoughts.
"Well then gentlemen" He addressed both Biers and Martinez "I believe you should get to your stations. By the way" He asked as they turned to leave "Which section am I in?"
"Primary sir" Martinez told him "Captain Smith's got this one"
"Thank you, get to your stations then" Tiberian laid back down as the doors hissed shut. A junior doctor came over and pressed a hypospray to his neck.
"I don't suppose there's anything I can do for you that would get me out of here quicker?" He aksed with a sly grin. The doctor grinned back, and walked away blushing, glancing back briefly over her shoulder.
Tiberian lay looking upwards, measuring the light intensity with his new eye.
"Computer" he said "Begin a timer alarm. Set for three hours and thirty minutes from now. Mark"

Watching the small version of the Main Bridges' view-screen, David waited while the secondary sections' staff readied for separation ..
Consoles, normally in stand-by mode, now came to life and control of the sections warp capability was transfered from the main section ..
"Sir." said Lieutenant Davon, manning Opps, "They're ready to bring the bomb section aboard now."
"OK .. Tell them to keep it in the transporter room .. Everything has been set up ready for them."
"Aye Sir." she replied ..
Moments later she confirmed the arrival ..
"Sir .. Lieutenant Merdon .. Along with two Security Officers are now in the transporter room .. She would like an open channel to both the Main and tertiary sections so they can carry out the de-activation process in tandem."
"Set it up for her .." Tan said, then tapped his Comms badge ...
=^= Secondary Section to Main Bridge =^=
=^= Go ahead David =^= The Captain said, sounding more relaxed than Tan felt.
"Sir .. We have our section of the weapon .. We are ready when you are for separation =^=
=^= OK David .. They're moving the third and final portion now so stand-by =^=
=^= Sir =^= David said, closing the Comm ..
All he could do was wait now ..........

Crystal and Tonja were working on a booby trapped access panel when Crystal's comm badge chirped.
It was Lt. Merdon reporting that the timing column was safe on the secondary hull. A permanent comms link had also been set up. A short time later Ensign V'Sel reported the same for the tertiary module.
It seemed that all was going well on the other sections of the Olympia, or rather what soon would be the other sections of the Olympia. Crystal turned her attention back to the access panel. There was something pulsing on the other side of it but readings were so far inconclusive on what it actually was. She and Tonja were in agreement that it was unlikely to be anything beneficial to their health.

[red]"I guess we should get the other timing column out."[/red] "Indeed we should, as anything of natural importance of the matter, I firmly agree." Halthor nodded and helped with the other timing column while crystal performed routine checks of the systems to make sure nothing was going to happen. As the captain made his careful watch of the situation the two were working endlessly but he merely came to them to bring upon a few question and let them continue on with there duties as starfleet officers. [white]"Mr Halthor, as CTSO, I require you to take command of the tertiary section of the Olympia and take her well away from here in an opposite direction to the other two sections. Command of the primary section will be mine, obviously," Steve added, grinning...."while the secondary section will be commanded by Mr Tan, in the absence of our XO."[/white] "Understood Sir, I'll make it perfectly understandable that the sections are taken care of in the primary order that they are in. With some luck and precision in the matter ahead we wont have any problems or difficulties." Halthor responded and watched as the Captain made his grin. [white]"If there is nothing else I am needed for here, then I will let you carry on." Steve said as he edged closer to the exit.[/white] "Aye sir" Halthor replied and went back to his duty of timing the column then performing a check on the sections of which the captain had in mind. [red]After the Captain had left, Crystal set to work removing the second timing column. The counter was now reading 4 hours 13 mins and still ticking downward. She looked across at Commander Halthor "Since it seems I am being deprived of your company I don't suppose you could recommend some else to join me down here? Preferably someone with bomb disposal skills" She was attempting to lighten the mood a little more but wasn't sure if it was going to fall flat or not.[/red] "Excellent Idea Rose, I shall request the personnel immediately, and hopefully we shall have a quick response." Halthor nodded with agreement then made the preparations. [blue]=^= Commander Tan to MVAM duty crews .. Please report to your assigned stations immediately .. This is NOT a drill .. I repeat .. This is NOT a drill .. All MVAM personnel to their stations .. Steve was seated in his command chair on the Bridge of the primary section of the USS Olympia....in fact, it was THE bridge of the USS Olympia. David had reported as being ready in the secondary section, and Steve had just received word that Vander had now taken up his station on the tertiary section.
"Ship separation in one minute." called the computer, making everyone on the bridge tense up. Both the secondary and tertiary sections had been given their co-ordinates and orders for the upcoming split. This was Steve's first MVAM in command of a starship. He had been involved in a few others prior to this, but not as CO....not even as XO, so he didn't have to deal with the responsibilities that he had now.
"Ship Separation in progress"
"Wow, that was a fast minute" Steve muttered to himself. He stood up and watched on the view screen as his ship now broke away into three pieces. He turned to the helm officer. "Once we are clear, go to maximum warp on our current heading. The other two know where to go."
"Aye sir."
After about half a minute, the three sections of the Olympia were now separated, and at that moment, the primary section shot to warp.

As David got final reports from his staff, he watched the view on the screen before him .. It currently showed the same view as the main Bridge, but that would change soon ..
=^= Ship separation in one minute =^=
Came over the Comms ..
"Are we ready ?" Tan asked, getting affirmatives from the Secondary Bridge's crew, "Stand by for separation."
They heard several deep sounds then the Comm came to life once more ..
=^= Ship separation in progress =^=
The view changed now to one showing the fore-most edge of the secondary section, along with the underside of the primary section ..
"Full separation will be achieved in twenty four seconds" the computer said ..
David sat quietly fascinated as he watched the massive ship splitting into three parts, each capable of warp speed and each capable of defending itself ..
As Tan watched the main section drift upward, he wondered when the Captain would move .. He didn't have long to wait for an answer .. Suddenly, without a word, the primary section blasted into warp.
"Wow." said the duty Helm Officer .. then noticing the Commander looking at her, she elaborated, "Sir .. The main section was only one hundred and sixty two meters away when they jumped to warp ..
David was suitably impressed.
"Helm .. Lay in course .. One two zero mark two zero."
"Laid-in Sir."
"Maximum warp .. Now !" he ordered, watching as the tertiary section fell to port then vanished from sight as they too arrowed away ..........

Daniel gave his orders to his staff as he rushed out of his office, he had one staff member per section to avoid problems, Daniel had decided that he should go with the tertiary section as Vander was in command of that section and he may be in need of the counsellor’s skills while in command. Making it to the tertiary section’s bridge Daniel looked at Vander before taking a seat to one side.
The separation went well and as none of the consoles had started beeping madly Daniel believed that so far nothing had gone wrong, Vander gave the order to enter high warp and with that the other sections of the ship disappeared into the endless darkness. “Commander, at this point there is little to do but wait, if I am needed I will be contactable, but for now I will be doing some rounds making sure everyone is okay” Daniel was not looking for permission but just informing Vander of his intentions. As Daniel walked out he wondered where everyone would be gathering on this section and he moved to one of the computer terminals and accessed the schematic of the section, looking carefully he worked out 3 locations where people might gather and made his way to the first not expecting to find much but he wanted to be sure.

The secondary section's heading was one hundred and twenty mark twenty degrees from the Captains in the primary section .. Vander would have took a heading of approximately two four zero mark ten. So all three sections were putting maximum distance between them in the shortest time ..
As David watched the view-screen the stars were beginning to thin out .. 'Good, we need as much open, empty space as possible' he thought ..
He was just about to get a coffee from the replicator when the Comm activated ..
=^= Lieutenant Merdon to Bridge =^=
=^= Tan .. Go ahead =^=
=^= Commander .. I think you should come to the transporter room =^=
=^= Problem Lieutenant ? =^= David asked, heading for the turbo-lift.
=^= We're having problems with the timer .. I think it best you come down and see for yourself =^=
In the lift, Tan replied that he was on his way ...
~~~~~~~~~~
Entering the transporter room, David could see the weapon .. It was sat on a de-activated anti-grav carrier .. Several lights were flashing in sequence. 'Obviously signifying the weapons countdown and status' Tan thought.
The two Security personnel assigned to watch the section of the Tauri Burst, along with the Science people working on it, had moved close to the bulkhead and seemed un-nerved at what was happening ..
"Well ?" Tan said as he approached Merdon.
"We've got a problem." she said, pointing toward the timer ..
David looked at it, it showed : Three hours forty nine minutes .. he couldn't see anything wrong, and frowning looked back to the Science Officer ..
"It's counting down .. We knew that." he said.
"Yes .. Look again Commander." Merdon said, showing patience, as if explaining something simple to a child of four .. Tan looked at the bomb again, wondering what he was missing .. Then he saw it ! ...
The timer now showed : Three hours forty two minutes ...
"It's counted seven minutes .. But we've not been talking for ......"
"The countdown rate has increased .. At the current rate .. We have something in the region of oh two hours thirty minutes .. Give or take."
"The other sections ?" he asked, now slightly nervous himself.
"We must assume they will be the same." Lieutenant Merdon said, shrugging ..
"If you tamper with the device ?"
"The rate could increase yet again .. But we have no choice Commander .. It's de-activate our section .. or all three go up !"
"Get to work .. I'll be on the Bridge !" Tan said, heading for the door. Waiting for the turbo-lift, he tapped his Comms badge ..
=^= Tan to Engineering =^=
=^= Engineering .. Lieutenant Forster =^=
=^= I need more speed .. As much as you can give us ! =^= Tan said entering the lift once more.
=^= Sir .. We're at maximum now =^=
=^= Then take us to one hundred and twenty percent .. NOW ! =^=
Tan wondered how the Captain and Halthor were doing ..........
Crystal and Tonja were still working in the cargo bay when the comm system spoke up.
=/\=Ship separation in one minute=/\=
Tonja looked across at Crystal. "I'm looking forward to this, I never been through a ship separation before."
"That makes two of us." Crystal said. Tonja handed over the latest scan of the Tauri Burst.
"I only wish we had a window to watch this, it must be spectacular..." Tonja said.
Crystal smiled but did not look up from the schematics. "Tell you what, when we come to put the Olympia back together, you and I will have a window view and a cold drink."
=/\=Ship separation in progess=/\=
The two of them were working on the booby trap which as far as they could tell seemed to be designed to give an electric shock to anyone opening the access panel and then, and this was the good bit, it would spray a fine mist of radioactive foam out.
Eventually they managed to disarm the trap and pry the access panel open. The Tauri Burst had never been meant to be manually disarmed. It was designed to explode and Professor Hartti had gone to a lot of trouble to ensure that anyone crazy enough to attempt a manual disarm wouldn't have enough time.
Crystal stared at the timer. It was now reading 3 hours 58 minutes and 27 seconds to detonation and the reading hadn't changed since she last glanced at the timer a couple of minutes before. This was working. She let out a sigh of relief and jabbed her comm badge.
=/\=Commander Rose to Captain Smith, It's worked, sir. The countdown is now proceeding at one second every three minutes and is still slowing.=/\=
Tiberian felt the trembing that became a jolt as te primary section of the Olympia broke away from the rest of the ship and leapt to warp. Tiberian lay there staring at the ceiling as the only remaining doctor in the room walked around in perpetual circles, probably wondering about her colleagues who had been redistributed to each section. Tiberian decided enough was enough. He beckoned the doctor.
"Doctor... Abernathy isn't it?" he ventured, trying to remember the medical department roster.
"That's right" she smiled at him, causing him to smile back.
"I really need to be released for light duties" he said pushing himself into a sitting position "Do you think you might be able to help?"
"Doctor Mallen's orders where very clear" she said folding her arms "You're not to be released for about three hours yet?"
"And" Tiberian said as he swung his legs over the side of the bed, placing his face right up to hers, his voice dropping to a whisper "Is there nothing that I can do to convince you of my physical capabilities"
She gave him a sidewards glance and a sly grin.
~About an hour later~
Tiberian and the doctor emerged from the now unlocked office, the doctor pulling her dark hair back in to it's original ponytail, and he fastening his tunic. Funnily enough, the rapid infuser providing him with blood and nutrients was still hooked up to his right arm.
"So doctor" Tiberian began, but she cut across him.
"Respectfully Major, I think that the last hour has put us on permanent first name basis. It's Katie" she extended a hand, which Tiberian ignored, leaning in to kiss her.
"It's Tiberian, and I think that the last hour put us past hand shaking, don't you" They laughed "So, my discharge form?"
She handed him a padd.
"There, I've released you for very minimal duties, but that's it, and I want you to stay on the bridge" She instructed him as she unhooked the rapid infuser "No heroics, or I'll have you ordered back here. I want to see you in 24 hours, and again 24 hours after that, and I want to see you in one piece"
"And I know which one that is" Tiberian smiled as he turned on heel and left, heading for the bridge.
Arriving on the bridge, he walked around to the centre circle and looked at the Captain, who was staring at him in a questioning manner.
<TAG Captain Smith>
"It's all Kosher sir, the doctor released me for Japanese style minimalist duties. I'm not to do anything strenuous, and I'm hear only in a virtual advisory capacity" He handed over the padd.
"I see" the Captain looked at the orders "The doctor has said your not to get actively involved or over excited for the next two hours, or you're to be sent back to sickbay. She does compliment you on your dedication to duty however, and pays particular reference to your current physical stamina"
Tiberian coughed, something between a laugh and a half strangulated noise of fear. He regained composure in a split second.
"So what's the current situation of everything sir"
The secondary section of the USS Olympia was arrowing away from it's counterparts, and inhabited space at maximum warp ..
They were also heading below the natural plane of the Universe. David figured the further below, and away from known civilizations if, or when their section of the Tauri Brust detonated, the better ..
He tapped his Comm badge ..
=^= Tan to Lieutenant Merdon .. How're we doing down there ? =^=
=^= WE aren't doing too well Commander .. I'm being blocked at every turn by tamper triggers .. And fail-safes .. I just hope the other sections dont have this trouble .. But there's a possib ........ =^=
=^= Lieutenant ? =^= Tan said ..
=^= Lieutenant Merdon ! =^=
=^= Oh no ..... Commander .. The countdown rate has increased again .. It's now counting down in even numbers only =^=
=^= How much time ? =^= Tan asked, not wanting to really know ..
There was a few seconds' hesitation before Merdon replied ..
=^= Two hours fourteen minutes .. I'm running out of options Commander =^=
=^= Keep working on it .. I will try to contact the other sections to see how they are faring .. It's possible that someone's having more luck .. Tan out =^=
Everyone on the small Bridge had heard the conversation, so there was no need for pretense ...
"Open a channel to the Olympia's primary section." David ordered.
"Channel open."
=^= Commander =^= Steven said, before David could begin, =^= We've managed to slow our count considerably .. How are you getting on ? =^=
Tan's face said everything Captain Smith needed to know ..
=^= We're in trouble .. Our countdown is increasing every time Merdon attempts to de-activate it .. We're currently down to Two hours fourteen .. It's diminishing at two second intervals at the moment =^=
=^= I'll have Commander Rose contact Merdon .. See if they can work something out ..... =^=
=^= Aye Sir .. Lets hope she comes up with something .. I'll await her call .. She may have found something Merdon hasn't .. Tan out =^=
"Helm." Tan said, deciding distance was the priority now .. When their section explodes, he wants to be as far away as possible from anything, Anything at all, "Increase speed."
"Sir we're at maximum warp now .."
He turned to the Engineering Officer ..
"Take the core up to one hundred and twenty percent."
After a seconds hesitation, she did as she was ordered .. The section was now moving at an almost impossible speed .. A speed it simply couldn't sustain .. No-one spoke, they all knew what the Commander was trying to do and excepted it whole-heartedly .. If there was no help from the others, the secondary section of the Olympia would vanish in an explosion that would be seen across the quadrant ! ..........
PRIMARY MODULE: CARGO BAY Crystal had just reported to the Captain that things were going well and had taken a moment to stand-up stretch and drink a cup of coffee that wasn't going cold. She took her eyes off the Tauri Burst for a couple of seconds, but when she looked the numbers were starting to flicker.
The counter was speeding up that didn't seem possible.... Crystal pointed her tricorder and the device and tried to make sense of the results. It was as if the subetheric pulses were somehow accelerating...
A few seconds later Lieutenant Mendon reported from the secondary hull that their counter had sped up also. A call from Ensign V'Sel a couple of seconds after that confirmed that the problem was on all three counters. This did not look good. Crystal's mind was racing but even that wasn't as fast as the count down.
=/\= Commander Rose to Bridge. I guess you're aware of the problem we're having down here. Please scan for any stars in the area that are emitting high frequency radiogenics and any natural subetheric fields. I think that could be accelerating the pulses. =/\=
Tag: Bridge
She imagined the scene of activity on the bridge. There had to be a way to block the effects at least for a while.
=/\= Can you set up a forcefield around the cargo bay tuned to block high end radiogenics =/\=
A few seconds later Crystal felt the hum and prickle on the back of her neck as the forcefield activated. She watched the counter and was pleased to see it slow. She let out a breath she hadn't realised she had been holding. Tonja broke into a rather wan smile, the counter was now reading under two hours to go.
PRIMARY MODULE: BRIDGE Crewman Mark K'Ther didn't normally do bridge duty but with the science staff spread a thin across the three modules of the Olympia he had ended up on the primary module bridge. He was collating all of the data that was being continually uploaded from Commander Rose and her team in the cargo bay and sending on what had been shown to work. He was likewise receiving information from the other two modules and forwarding that down to the CScO. He wished he were down there too but someone had to be up here to coordinate matters. He banged his hand against the console which made a loud enough sound that a couple of the crew looked round.
With the primary section of the Olympia well underway, all seemed to be going well thus far. Unfortunately, the same couldn't be said for the secondary section. Their timer had started counting down faster than normal. Steve had instructed the science team on his section to converse with their counterparts on the secondary section to try and work on a solution.
A few moments later, the doors to the bridge opened, and Tiberian walked in.
"Mr Wong, what are you doing here? If I recall correctly, you were told to rest for a few more hours and then resume light duties...which does not include Bridge work." Steve said to Tiberian.
"It's all Kosher sir, the doctor released me for Japanese style minimalist duties. I'm not to do anything strenuous, and I'm hear only in a virtual advisory capacity" He handed over the padd.
"I see" the Captain looked at the orders "The doctor has said your not to get actively involved or over excited for the next two hours, or you're to be sent back to sickbay. She does compliment you on your dedication to duty however, and pays particular reference to your current physical stamina"
Tiberian coughed, something between a laugh and a half strangulated noise of fear. He regained composure in a split second.
"So what's the current situation of everything sir"
"Well, right now as it stands the timer on our section has slowed, but the timer on the secondary section has sped up for reasons as yet unknown. The science team here are working with the other team to try and find a solution."
=/\= Commander Rose to Bridge. I guess you're aware of the problem we're having down here. Please scan for any stars in the area that are emitting high frequency radiogenics and any natural subetheric fields. I think that could be accelerating the pulses. =/\=
=/\= I'll get someone on it. =/\= Steve turned to Tiberian, "Think you could handle that?" He asked, jokingly.
OOC: Just trying to collect thoughts and characters PRIMARY MODULE: CARGO BAY=/\= Can you set up a forcefield around the cargo bay tuned to block high end radiogenics =/\= =/\= That IS something you could have done yourself. But someone up here will set it up for you. Smith out. =/\=Crystal debated a reply for a moment =/\= Thank you Captain=/\= She cut the comm link and sighed. Of course she could set up an anti-high end radiogenic forcefield but that would require her leaving the Tauri Burst and she didn't feel able to do that at this minute. -a while later- With the forcefield still active and maybe a new course set (it wasn't as if Crystal could tell from down here). The counter had stayed at the slower rate but it wasn't as slow as it should have been something was still accelerating the pulses. She, Tonja and the rest of her team set to work. **************************************** SECONDARY MODULE: TRANSPORTER ROOMMerdon was puzzling over the timing column. The forcefield had helped but the counter was still going faster than predicted. He jabbed his comm badge =/\=Merdon to Bridge. Things are a bit calmer down here now. I think...=/\= He paused for a moment and double checked his readings =/\=No, I've just checked, at the current rate we have just under seven hours=/\= He swallowed and wondered how the Commander was taking this news. Tag: Commander Tan =/\=I was hoping you had some news about the natural phenomena that the CScO mentioned..=/\= Merdon shook his head he knew he was gabbling, of course they would tell him if there was anything of relevance... Tag: Commander Tan =/\=Sorry to have bothered you, sir=/\= He sighed and closed the comm link. He shook his head at a crewman offering him a mug of coffee he was jittery enough right now without that. ********************************************* TERTIARY MODULE: CARGO BAYV'Sel and her team were working on their timing column, so far the information sent over from the primary module was making sense but this current trapped panel was different. The dismantling sequence wouldn't work, she could tell that from her scans. Any attack on the panel would result in a radioactive spray. There was only one option and that was to cut around it and disconnect it from the other side. It was risky but logic told her it was the only option. =/\=V'Sel to Bridge. In order to disarm the next stage of the Tauri Burst I need to cut through the side of the casing. I will evacuate this room except for myself and seal it in case of leakage.=/\= Tag: Bridge =/\=I am aware of the dangers but logically this is the only course of action. I do not believe this panel was made to be disarmed. I will therefore have to bypass it completely=/\= Tag:Bridge ************************************************* SECONDARY MODULE: BRIDGELieutenant Harwyn was working Tactical. He believed that the greatest danger was all ready inside the ship but he was paying attention to the sensors. Suddenly a ship registered. Angling in and approaching fast. There was no reason for another ship to be here He looked over at the Commander. "Sir, there's a ship approaching us. Reads like a heavily remodelled Klingon Cruiser. Based on the speed the engines seem to be at at least 160% of spec for a ship of that class" Tag: Commander Tan
TERTIARY MODULE: Bridge
Daniel had finished what rounds he was willing to do when he returned to relieve Vander, he looked like he was about to collapse “You should really get some rest, I will look after things here on the bridge you get to a quarter and rest, sir” Daniel added the sir quickly realising he was speaking to his superior officer while the ship was separated. As Vander left a comm. Came though from the cargo bay =/\=V'Sel to Bridge. In order to disarm the next stage of the Tauri Burst I need to cut through the side of the casing. I will evacuate this room except for myself and seal it in case of leakage.=/\= Daniel looked around before tapping his comm. badge “this is the bridge, if you create a leak we may not be able to access the cargo bay to disable the burst before detonation.” Daniel felt it was a bad idea but it may be the only path to take. =/\=I am aware of the dangers but logically this is the only course of action. I do not believe this panel was made to be disarmed. I will therefore have to bypass it completely=/\= Daniel thought a bit more before agreeing “you have permission, but I want a report every 20 minutes or I will send another in to watch you” Daniel worried that the burst may leak and leave the room unusable for hours.
As time passed he began to wonder what was happening in the cargo bay, moving from his seat he made his way down to the cargo bay to check on her progress. As he made his way he felt the ship tremor, unsure what had happened he contacted the bridge officer “What just happened?” the response was shift and unnerving =/\= Sir, there was a mild explosion from the cargo bay the burst is in, this caused an overload in the warp engines forcing us to drop out of warp. Since then we have lost the warp engines, sir =/\= Daniel did not know what to be annoyed about first, the fact that they had lost warp or that there was an explosion “put us on course at maximum impulse until the engines are back operational and I want engineering to get to work fast” Daniel quickened his pace to get to the cargo bay.
As he arrived he looked at the consol next to the door to check on the conditions inside the room. When there was no signs of danger he opened the door and found the burst in one piece and a Vulcan science officer puzzled. “what happened here?” the Vulcan looked up and stated that the burst had a defence mechanism which she tripped, Daniel looked at the timer, “could you please confirm that I am seeing things and that counter is not counting fast?” the Vulcan moved around to look at the counter. “I can not, by it’s present rate, the burst shall detonate in 35 minutes and 34 seconds” Daniel almost fainted at that “I thought getting away from each other would slow it down not accelerate it” before she could respond Daniel hit his comm. badge “Captain, this is Commander Biers on the tertiary section. Sir, we have a large problem, our part of the burst is now 32 minutes from exploding, unless things improve very quickly we may need to abandon our section to save the crew”
<Tag Captain>
“Understood” Daniel turned to the scientist “I want you to continue to work on this and keep me informed on the timer.” As she nodded and quickly returned to work Daniel made his way to the bridge hoping that the situation up there was more hopeful.
Arriving on the bridge the first thing he noted was that they were back in warp, taking his seat he worked out how long he should leave it before given the evacuation order, and dropping the ship temporarily out of warp to abandon the section before it could jump back to warp and explode at a safe distance. ‘This is going to be tight’
Steve turned to Tiberian, "Think you could handle that?" He asked, jokingly.
"Oh just you try and stop me" he replied in the same joking manner, activating his console. He scanned quickly in the system that they were passing through, and found nothing. He expanded his search parameters to the adjoining systems, and then he found it. A quasar was sat on the outlying area of the nearest system, emitting intermittent subetheric pulses that must be interfering with the countdown mechanism.
"Got it sir" Tiberian reported as he flipped through the data "It's a quasar about five lightyears from here sending out randomly timed subetheric pulses of varying frequencies. This must be triggering some sort of acceleration" He turned to the crewman manning the science station. "Adjust the frequency of the radiogenic shield to 173.2 megahertz, that should give the shield it's maximum effectiveness in neutralizing most of the external frequencies.
Just then, a communication came in from the secondary module.
<TAG Commander Tan/Captain Smith>
Tiberian felt as if he should be back in sickbay as the presence of a suspected Klingon battlecruiser slowly crept into view. He carefully weighed the options available and turned to the Captain.
"Sir, if I might offer my opinion. No one module can handle a ship of that class single handedly, and by the looks of those speed reports, Commander Tan can't outrun her" Tiberian sighed "The best chance for survival is for all three modules to regroup and fight together. Though this does then raise the probability of our impending death by Burst. However, if we do not go, and the secondary section is destroyed, the loss of a connection will probably trigger the other two sections to detonate. It's up to you sir"
<TAG Captain Smith>
"If we do go back sir, then it'll have to be one of the quickest victories on the books. Plus we'd have to find someway of prolonging the countdown in the short term" He tapped his commbadge
=/\=Bridge to Commander Rose. Crystal, we may have to bring the sections quite close together again in order to protect the secondary module from what looks like a Klingon warship. Is there anything we can do sahort term to hold of the countdown. I don't know, maybe some new sort of shield or transporter suspension, you're the scientist=/\=
<TAG Commander Rose>
A transmission suddenly came through from the tertiary module, cutting across Rose's suggestion.
“Captain, this is Commander Biers on the tertiary section. Sir, we have a large problem, our part of the burst is now 32 minutes from exploding, unless things improve very quickly we may need to abandon our section to save the crew”
Tiberian crossed himself, and could actually feel the blood drain from his face.
"Oh God. We lose one section if we don't get close together and we seem certain to lose one if we do" He opened a linked communication with the bridges of the other two modules, and with the personnel working with each section of the Burst.
=/\=Come on people=/\= He said, a hint of panic in his voice =/\=We need options!=/\=
TERTIARY MODULE: CARGO BAY Once she had been given the go ahead V'Sel set to work on the side of the Tauri Burst just behind the access panel. The metal casing parted cleanly as she worked with a laser cutter. Suddenly a small humming noise came from the burst . V'Sel just had time to drop the laser cutter and turn her face away before a very bright flash enveloped the room. Finding that she was still alive after the flash had cleared V'Sel grabbed up her tricorder and set to work trying to determine what had happened. There had been some sort or energy pulse which seemed to have had very little affect on her but had overloaded several sets of the Olympia's circuitry. Also and of far more concern what that the counter had sped up. This didn't seem to be related to the defense mechanism
V'Sel was just about to inform the bridge when someone spoke to her. “what happened here?” She looked up and noted the presence of Commander Biers, she knew she must be really distracted not to have heard him approach. "I tripped a defense mechanism that triggered a high powered etheric pulse." She decided that further explanation would not be necessary. She was going to mention the the counter when he stepped round the timing column and saw it himself.
“could you please confirm that I am seeing things and that counter is not counting fast?”
“I can not, by it’s present rate, the burst shall detonate in 35 minutes and 34 seconds” V'Sel said.
“I thought getting away from each other would slow it down not accelerate it”
V'Sel was just about to reply when Commander Biers cut her off by communicating with the primary module. He was quite clearly not thinking logically about this.
“I want you to continue to work on this and keep me informed on the timer.” She nodded and he left the room.
She thought about the information she had from the other modules and what had happened to the other module's timers.
*****************************************************
TERTIARY MODULE: BRIDGE In Commander Biers's absence Lieutenant Finch had been in charge of the bridge. His major action so far had been to accept the comm from engineering that meant they could return to warp.
=/\=V'Sel to Bridge. I believe we are in an area of high background subetherics. Please locate the shortest route clear of this area.=/\=
He acknowledged the request and set to work. It was just then that Commander Biers returned to the bridge. Finch quickly briefed the Commander on V'Sel idea.
=/\=Come on people=/\= The XO said, a hint of panic in his voice =/\=We need options!=/\=
************************************************** PRIMARY MODULE: CARGO BAY Crystal and Tonja had suceeded in getting past the next layer of security around the Tauri Burst. Crystal noted that the shield around the cargo bay had been retuned and assumed they had detrmined the source of the background interference.
=/\=Bridge to Commander Rose. Crystal, we may have to bring the sections quite close together again in order to protect the secondary module from what looks like a Klingon warship. Is there anything we can do short term to hold of the countdown. I don't know, maybe some new sort of shield or transporter suspension, you're the scientist=/\=
Crystal heard the tone of the XO's voice before the words really registered. She started to reply but only got the first word out before an emergency call came from Daniel. If he hadn't identified himself at the start of the call she might not have recognised his voice. This was not good.
She thought desperately there had to be something she could do. She noted that a multiway comm channel had been set up. =/\=Come on people=/\= The XO said, a hint of panic in his voice =/\=We need options!=/\=
Crystal spoke trying desperately to collect her fractured thoughts. =/\=Commander Rose here, tertiary module I think you must be in a region with a background of subetheric radiation. Get out of there.=/\= Tag:Commander Biers
Crystal knew she was on the verge of either solving this or having her brain explode, she felt as if she were trying to hold back a tidal wave. She carried on. =/\=If the timers can be physically separated from the detonator and radioactive charge I think we should be able to hold the detonators and charges in a transporter suspension=/\=
=/\=And if the counters have run down before we can get them out of suspension?=/\= Merdon said. Crystal suspected he knew the answer to that but wanted to hear it from someone else as he wasn't completely sure. He had too little faith in himself.
=/\=They will explode at the instant of materialisation=/\=V'Sel chimed in. the Vulcan's voice calmed Crystal a little despite the words. She took a very deep breath and spoke again.
=/\=We have to either slow the countdown or perhaps find someway to contain the explosion safely=/\= She was speaking like she did a normal lab briefing but wasn't sure how she maintaining this calmness. It felt a bit unnatural.
In the transporter room, Tan had listened in silence as Commander Rose, aboard the primary section, had tried to help Lieutenant Merdon slow the countdown. But to no effect ...
"Time now Lieutenant ?" he asked.
"One hour thirty four minutes Commander." Merdon replied.
=^= Commander Rose .. Thank you for your input .. If you come up with anything I'll be very glad to hear it .. Secondary section out =^=
"I'll be on the Bridge." Tan said, doggedly refusing to believe that they were about to become free-floating atoms in deep space.
Sitting down, he was about to ask for their current location when Lieutenant Harwyn, overseeing Tactical spoke ..
"Sir .. There's a ship approaching us .. Reads like a heavily remodeled Klingon Cruiser .. Based on the speed the engines seem to be at at least one hundred sixty percent of spec for a ship of that class."
"RED ALERT !" Tan ordered, "Raise shields !"
The Shields snapped into place instantly, as the Klingon ship maneuvered along-side then matched the secondary sections' speed ..
"Contact Captain Smi ......" David began, but was interrupted.
"We can't contact anyone Sir .. They are blocking all transmissions."
"Open a channel to that vessel." Tan ordered, pointing to she massive ship now almost filling the view-screen ..
"Channel open .. But they're refusing to acknowledge our hail." Harwyn said.
"Helm .. Alter course .. One six zero and bring us back toward the plane at plus twenty degrees." he ordered instantly ..
They were now heading back toward the natural plane of the universe, but the Klingon vessel simply, easily, matched their movements, coming alongside, and even closing the gap between them .. It was, Tan was informed by a shocked Lieutenant Harwyn, less than one hundred meters away now ..
"Arm Photon torpedoes." Tan said.
=^= Oh I wouldn't arm your weapons' systems Commander .. At this distance .. It could prove very 'detrimental' to both our vessels ! =^=
As if to solidify his argument, the Klingon ship again closed the gap between them .. Shields on both ship's began registering a near-by obstacle and collision alarms began to sound .. Tan waved an arm to have the alarms silenced ..
The Bridge fell completely silent, as they waited for the Klingon to continue ..........
"Alright then Crystal, let's just pray that we're done before the counters run down" Tiberian said, standing up and running round to a science console at the back of the bridge "All sections, this is the XO, reomve the timing column of your section of the Burst, and place it in transporter suspension, defer to Commander Rose for any instructions. All sections copy when this is completed"
<TAG Commander Rose/Biers>
"Secondary module come in. Commander Tan, did you receive my last order?" Tiberian asked, as the secondary module remained the only one to be unresponsive.
"Sir" an ensign drew his attention "All communications with the secondary module have ceased, jammed from the source"
"Ok, screw this" Tiberian marched back round to the centre circle "With your permission Captain" He looked at Smith.
<TAG Captain Smith>
"Ok, Wong to Commander Biers. Commander, bring the tertiary module directly at the secondary modules positon maximum warp. Raise your shields and arm our weapons systems. When you arrive give the secondary module covering fire, then do strafing runs. Don't get into a prolonged firefight until we get there. Got it"
<TAG Commander Biers>
"Alright then, helm, lay in a course of three-two-zero, mark-one nine-five. Engage at maximum warp"
Outside, the primary module did a backflip and then turned like a corkscrew as it shot back towards the secondary module.
"Angels and ministers of grace defend us" Tiberian said, as he sat down in his chair and activated his console.
"Hamlet, act one, scene four" A Vulcan man behind him stated.
"Show off" Tiberian jibed "Red alert, all hands, battle stations. Raise shields and arm weapons systems"
A short while later, the primary module dropped out of warp, just as the tertiary module did the same. The Klingon vessel was almost touching the secondary module, and moving ever closer.
"Open hailing frequencies" Tiberian ordered, an ensign at ops then nodding to him.
=/\=Klingon vessel, this is the Federation starship USS Olympia. You are in violation of Federation sovereign territory, and are engaged in illegal threatening actions towards a Federation vessel. You are ordered to stand down and withdraw immediately. Failure to comply will be considered an act of aggression. Respond=/\= No signal came.
"They're ignoring us sir" the Vulcan at tactical stated.
"Lieutenant T'Ser, his specialist subject, the bleeding obvious" Tiberian muttered under his breath. The cruiser was getting dangerously close to the secondary section, who simply didn't have enough speed to evade them.
"Alright, arm a quantum torpedo for manual detonation. 100% yield" As the torpedo was armed, Tiberian set in co-ordinates for it's detonation.
"Sir" T'Ser said "The co-ordinates you have specified are exactly twenty metres from the under-port side of the secondary module. They will receive an equal amount of the shockwave to the Klingons"
"Exactly" Tiberian replied, a mischeivous grin on his face "It'll blow them apart, and stop the Klingons from ramming them to atoms. Which, by the way, is what is going to happen in fifteen seconds if we don't do something" T'Ser got his point, and seconds later, the torpedo fired.
"Torpedo away" T'Ser stated, as Tiberian glared intently at his monitor, waiting for that one last second.
"DETONATE!" He shouted, detonating the torpedo, the resultant shockwave sending the two ships rocketing apart. Moments later, seemingly a little bruised, but not beaten, the secondary module turned around, and converging with the other two modules, advanced in a pack towards the Klingons.
"Now then" Tiberian said, sitting back "Let's see if they feel like talking now. Re-open hailing frequencies"
"Helm .. Bring us about !" Tan ordered, "Tactical .. Keep an eye on the Klingon .. Try to get that Comm back .. Open a Comm to the primary section .. I want to know 'who' and WHY the hell they have just fired on us !"
David took his seat, he watched as the massive Klingon warship, more than a match for the Olympia, turned in what could be described as a lazy arc and came to a dead stop directly in their path ...
"Where's my channel to the primary section ?"
"Trying Sir .. We took some damage when the Olympia fired on us."
"Try harder !" Tan said, glaring at the view screen ..........
After getting some long needed rest in his compartment, Vander was trying to compensate for anything that had to do with the mission essentials. It was imperative that the mission was a success and nothing failed. But with Daniel Biers commitment to duty and willingness to take charge in the apparent situation it was fantastic to see one of the crew helping him out.
But regardless anyone in the team would help in any given situation. Vander made his adjustments to his uniform and made sure nothing had any inconsistencies along the way. After getting done with the appropriate things he made his way out of his compartment and onto the bridge.
Arriving on the Bridge, Vander noticed that everything was a bit hectic and there was space based communications coming in from the other officers on different parts of the ship that were seperated. Approaching Daniel, Vander wanted to see if he could help in the situation while it continued.
"Daniel, im back from my rest, please tell me what is the overall status of the tauri at this current point and what can we do to solve it." Vander replied
After being told about the situation Vander was not overally joyed to hear that the ship was about to blow but that it might be necessary for the ship to come together. Then Daniel made a quick response to Colonel Wong with the impending news.
[green]"Captain, this is Commander Biers on the tertiary section. Sir, we have a large problem, our part of the burst is now 32 minutes from exploding, unless things improve very quickly we may need to abandon our section to save the crew”[/green]
Another signal came in from the Colonel not to loud but quite clear.
[white]=/\=Bridge to Commander Rose. Crystal, we may have to bring the sections quite close together again in order to protect the secondary module from what looks like a Klingon warship. This being one of the alternatives it was necessary for the ship to come together and thats what the command that was supposed to be done. Not to long after a Klingon warship came out of space and stopped within moments of all three parts of bridges. Then a quantum torpedo was fired between both ship modules. The resultant blast got the klingons suspicious.
[blue]Back on the Bridge of the Tertiary Module[/blue]
Vander sat alongside Daniel in the moments of the blast knowing what would come of this aww inspiring bout between them. But attacking the klingons wasnt there primary motive it was to hinder there attack to give the crew of olympia sections time to figure out what could be done with the tauri burst.
"What can we do now" Vander replied.
"Got them Sir !"
"Got who ?" David said, un-necessarily annoyed, but calming by the second.
"The Klingon's Sir."
"On screen ..."
A second later, the unruffled face of the Klingon Captain appeared on the view screen ..
"Keep trying to get the Captain." Tan ordered, before standing to face the Klingon.
=^= Captain K'Vok .. I want to apologize for our firing on you .. But your position in relation to this section of the Olympia could only be construed as an attack =^=
K'Vok spoke to someone off-screen, nodding, then seemingly waving the person away, then he replied ..
=^= My subordinate .. Feels we should destroy your vessel immediately .. How do you feel about a fight .. Commander =^=
It occurred to Tan that even if they themselves couldn't contact the primary section, the Klingon ship could. He decided to test the water ..
=^= Are you in contact with my Captain ? =^=
=^= No .. I was dealing with you and intend to continue to do so .. Unless you have .. Objections .. On this point =^=
=^= Would it be possible to relay a message to the primary section ? =^=
=^= We can but try .. While you 'ponder' the idea of attacking us .. What would you like to convey to your Captain ? =^=
Tan knew that this was no ordinary Klingon Captain .. He had free reign over what he did, and was obviously not tethered by the Klingon High Council .. David needed to be careful .. He gave K'Vok a brief rundown of their current situation to pass on to Smith and Wong, along with a request to beam their part of the 'burst over to the Klingon ship .. The screen went back to a view of space as K'Vok spoke to Captain Smith ..
"Sir." Lieutenant Harwyn said, "How do we know he's actually 'talking' to the Captain ?"
Tan shrugged.
"We don't."
=^= Transporter room to Bridge =^=
=^= Tan =^=
=^= Lieutenant Merdon Sir .. I'm not sure whats going on up there but the countdown has increased speed .. We currently have less than forty minutes before our section .. Along with half the quadrant goes up in the biggest explo ...... =^=
=^= I understand what you're saying Lieutenant =^= Tan interrupted ..
=^= Prepare to beam our section of the 'burst over to the Klingon vessel .. I'll supply co-ordinates as soon as I have them =^=
"Helm .. Move us 'slowly' toward the Klingon vessel .. If they make any sort of move .. Come to a full stop as quickly as possible .. Understand ?"
"Aye Sir." the young Helm Officer said, unintentionally beginning to sweat as she used the thrusters to 'nudge' their section forward ...
Tan waited to see who would react first ..........
"Ok, screw this" Tiberian marched back round to the centre circle "With your permission Captain" He looked at Smith.
"By all means." Steve replied. "If they are jamming the communications, they MUST be up to something." He added, hoping he was right in that analysis....if not, then things were about to get ugly.
[AFTER EXPLOSION]
The primary section of the Olympia was hurtling towards the secondary section and the Klingon vessel at high warp. The tertiary section had already arrived and was holding steady in front of the Klingon vessel along with section 2.
"Hail the Klingon vessel." Steve ordered, as they bore down on them.
"No response, sir."
"Dammit." He muttered. "Ok, hail the other two sections then." Steve was getting angrier by the second.
"Still nothing sir."
"We don't have time to be playing around out here." He was now out of his chair, staring at the Klingon vessel. "I want to know what the hell they want. Otherwise we are ALL going to be blown sky high."
By this time, the primary section had now arrived. All three sections hung in space in tandem in front of the Klingon vessel.
"Shall I bring the sections together?" The helm officer asked.
"No, not yet. If it comes down to it, we may need to actually use the MVAM for the purpose it was designed for....combat." Steve sighed, and sat back down. "I need options people. At this moment in time, I don't care how ludicrous they may seem, we need something to go on. Someone, find me a way to get through to that vessel."
Steve leant over to Tiberian. "What are you thoughts?" He asked.
