Running down to the shuttle bay to load the modifications, Byrne stopped by the medical bay to update Dr. Hedin on the messages he had translated from the information he was able to obtain from the Falconian database. "Dr. Hedin, I found that if you use a special set of harmonics, like those that birds use to fly by, I believe you can reset the transponder inside the DNA tag and it will send out the homing beacon we need to track the admiral. Here is key algorythms for the sets found in the linguistic database for avain mammals. Good luck, keep me aprised, gotta go, job to do."
The doctor thanked him for his efforts, after which Byrne went on his way. Plugging the harmonic set into the PADD containing the transponder data, Hedin quickly found that the two complemented eachother perfectly, allowing for the re-setting of the transponder and, consequently, configuring it to pick up any signal source which matched its harmonics. Taking this new data to the Bridge, Hedin, conferred with the Ops Manager Thorad in order to program the information into the comm system.
Soon, the CMO reported that the sensors were ready to be activated, so that they could lock on to the transponder. "Do it," the Vulcan ordered, sitting up a little straighter in her seat, her eyes flicking to Thorad. "Report sensor input," she ordered.
Thorad and Hedin, hunched over the Ops board, both studied the incoming readings in grim concentration. "Nothing yet, Commodore...." responded Thorad. Hedin added, "We've run a test program using a copy of our transponder's signal to stand for the one we're looking for, and the results confirm the theory. Problem is, the range of detection appears to be limited to within a few thousand kilometres." Thorad finished, "Now, we'll just have to wait for the the real thing and pray we don't get ambushed. Recommend we bring Minerva to red alert also. It'll give us that much better response time when we do pick up the signal."
After several tense minutes of waiting, Thorad spoke up. “Captain! You are receiving a message from Commander Hawk,” informed Lieutenant Commander Thorad, “It is coming in with a Starfleet priority code and scrambled.”
“Put on the viewer Commander,” instructed Sonak.
“Sorry Captain but he is requesting to speak to you, our chief engineer and our CMO only,” Thorad explained.
“Very well commander, patch it through to my ready room and have our CEO report there on the double,” Sonak ordered. “Harper you have the bridge. Doctor?” She beckoned him to follow.
After the three officers had listened to the message, Hedin said, "I'd better have a look at that decoder file Commander Hawk mentioned. If this message is genuine..." Sonak nodded that it was. "...then I should be able to extract the hidden code from the DNA trace. I got plenty of practice doing just that during my time with the Order."

As Byrne sat in the master's chair, he was proud of himself. Now to get the confirmation of the Commadore to see if it will work. Heading towards the transfer site, he checked the matter generators to test if they could handle sesmic tremors, like those from enemy fire to a planet surface. Beaming back to the shuttle in orbit to meetup with the Commadore and the CMO in her ready room. =<tap badge>="Commadore, I am on my way back to the ship, I saw part of the transmission from Cmdr. Hawk, and if I am right, the decoder may be harmonic in translation. Have the doctor bring the information with him, be there in 10 minutes." Upon landing on the shuttle deck of the Minerva, Byrne headed straight to the ready room, armed with all the information he needed to help Dr. Hedin decifer the transpoder code. Upon downloading the PADD information and combining it with Hawk's code, they were able to exprapolate the following message, "DNA Message: I believe my capture by Klingon Mercenaries eminent …I believe that Lord is the current leader of The Order of Black Tal-Opal…Last know headquarters was the Luscomb system deep in the Beta quadrant…Durco vowed to see me dead years ago but it is more important to stop him than to save me if it comes to that. Good Luck." With that, the room got quiet, =<Tag >=, Byrne gathered his things and headed for the Stellar Cartography labs to align the forward sensors to match the signal being broadcast. Tapping his badge, "Commador, all is done you should be seeing the transponder now. If you need me, I will be in the lounge having a tall, cool one. Byrne out."

Klingon ships were scary. At least thats what she thought. No soft floors, no pillows, no nothing. Just hinks of brown metal welded together and called a ship. She continued slowly walking down the corridor. The loud thrumming of the engines permiated everything in this ship. In fact she couldn't sleep in her room, despite having brought a pad for her bed. Just too loud.
In fact it wasn't just the noise, this place stunk. She decided she would much rather be on a starship instead. These Klingons didn't know when to have a bath. She turned one last corner and arrived at the bridge. The rusted doors opened to reviel the command center of this stinky hunk of metal.
A tall cranky Klingon looked down his nose towards her making her grip her teddy even tighter. He snorted and she took a few extra steps past him, and looked over her should with wide eyes. She bumped into something when she wasn't looking and let out a scream when she looked up at another tall Klingon, this time a woman. The woman spoke up.
"Children should not be allowed on the bridge!"
The Captain turned her chair around to see what was going on. She motioned for her to jump up on her lap.
"It's alright T'lana, she's harmless," Kate said looking down at her daughter. "There isnt' alot to do on these Klingon ships isn't there babe."
"No," Yannis said softly looking at her teddy, "I miss daddy."
"I know honey, you'll see him soon."

<Warning: One boring fill-in-the-gaps post ahead. But you may learn something from it (stranger things have happened)>
"Spill it"
L'Ola looked around the brig. This was not the sort of place she wanted to have this conversation. In fact, judging by the constant surveillence and present company, she wasn't even sure that she could hold this conversation there. "Umm, right. Look, some of it's kind of classified." She flicked her eyes over to the other cells before looking back at Nick and thinking ~Lucy~.
"Classified? I'm sure I can arrange something..."
Five minutes later they were in a briefing room with all equipment monitoring the room switched off. Nick sat down on the edge of the table, "This had better be good."
Having spent 3 days trying to work out where to start her explanation, L'Ola was ready to go. "Do you remember ages ago when Lucy told us about her family circumstances growing up? That she was a product of..." she trailed off a little, it felt so weird to actually say.
"Rape? Yes, I remember. Why?"
"Well apparently her father was the captain of a smuggling ship. A ship that her mother joined after the Ves crashed. A few of the crew were really good friends who would do anything for each other." She realised she was getting a long way off track, but the back story made the whole thing more plausible. Also she really wanted to finally tell someone what she'd learnt.
L'Ola continued talking, "After the r-rape, two of the guys on board swore that they'd get even with the captain for what he'd done. They gave his location to Romulan authorities and he was killed whilst in their space."
Nick could see where this was going next, "But without the Ves crashing, I'm assuming something else happened instead?"
"Right" she nodded, "The ship ended up being captured in Romulan space and the whole crew was taken into custody. That is, except the captain who was killed in the crossfire."
"So he got killed anyway, just a few years early. But what does this have to do with you stealing Starfleet property and going AWOL?"
Deciding against staring at her hands forever, L'Ola looked up again to carry on. "A few months ago, a group of Venturers went to Starbase Conqueror and were overheard to be talking about a group of Tellarites in a Romulan prison. So Lucy, looking for the chance to return a favour for old friends, decided to join them."
A look of realisation appeared on Nick's face, "That would explain the lack of calls from her and the reason you've hardly mentioned her lately."
"Yes. Only ever since I found out where she was I've been worrying non stop. I'm the closest she has to family, and to be honest I don't exactly have nice relatives streaming out my ears either. So I asked Jared how we should go about tracking her down..."
She explained everything that had happened since they left the ship, trying to put as much of the blame as possible onto herself.
Nick shifted down onto one of the chairs. He'd just taken in a lot of information and was trying to get his head round it. "Why did you come back then?" he asked after a short pause.
"Because even with all the resources we've put together, it needs the Ves to get us anywhere near. And, I don't know, I guess I was hoping someone would be able to help out." She looked down at the floor again, "Do you need to know anything else, or should I go back to the brig now?"

Sat in her readyroom, Sonak watched her CMO and CEO work on getting the message translated. When the finally did she sat up and ordered it to get sent to Admiral Arok, priority one and of course scrambled. She reviewed the message again, trying to make more sense of it. She had only 2 hours left before the other vessel would arrive, assuming that this was the vessel they had been waiting for.
I believe my capture by Klingon Mercenaries eminent …I believe that Lord is the current leader of The Order of Black Tal-Opal…Last know headquarters was the Luscomb system deep in the Beta quadrant…Durco vowed to see me dead years ago but it is more important to stop him than to save me if it comes to that. Good Luck."
~lord who?~ she pondered, wondering how rushed the message had been. Was this lord named Durco? Was it he who had abducted the admiral? Sonak wondered what it all meant, but she knew that getting to the Luscomb system now was an impossebilty. If this vessel had the admiral aboard then her first duty was to save him.
She knew that without him, their section would fall apart, so she deemed it more important to attend to that first. The Vulcan watched her officers leave and commended them for a job well done. Not even 5 minutes after Logan had left, he sent her the message that the transponder signal would be visible.
Sonak sighed with relief when the signal seemed to home in on the approaching vessel. "Affirmative commander," she replied, "I shall be beaming down to the sanctuary in fifteen minutes." She tapped her combadge again. "Ensign Maverick, are you, Lieutenant Brandy and your marine details in position?"
(Trey)
Sonak nodded at the response then beckoned Harper. "I shall be heading towards my quarters to change now. I will report in when I have beamed down. After that, no calls are to be made with the surface unless there is an emergency."
"Understood ma'am," Harper replied as he sat down in the command chair. He watched his CO go and again wondered why she was endangering herself and her unborn child. Yet he also knew that it had to be her; as a Vulcan as well as a trained healer she knew various mind-meld techniques.
Twenty minutes later, dressed in a long dark green dress, Sonak stood at the entrance of the sanctuary and hesitated. ~why did it have to be underground?~ she wondered. She looked around but saw no sign of her marine back-up team and silently commended them. Slowly, she walked down the steps trying to fight down her anxiety.
Once she was down, she was standing in a comfortably lit room which looked exactly like what she needed to have to perform as a Master living in solitary. Yet she wasn't comfortable at all, it felt as if the walls were about to come down on her and she resisted the innate urge to flee up the stairs, back to the surface.
Sonak knew the Klingons would be arriving soon, she had now only one hour left to meditate. Drawing in a deep breath, she sat down on the sand floor and closed her eyes.

[Planet side] Trey and his team ran a number of practice drills, mock battles and scenarios
=/\=lt. O’Conner to ensign maverick you and your team are to return to the mercury immediately we are getting ready to randevou with the Minerva =/\=
=/\= read you loud and clear lt. O’conner we’re on our way , maverick out =/\=
“Okay team this training session is over, we are to head back to the mercury right away”
“Already???... we just got started what’s going on” asked Chazz
“Don’t really know, but it could mean that they could have found some thing, so I guess we should get going instead of us standing here talking”
They then headed to there shuttle and made there way back into space and the mercury. It didn’t take the mercury module time to find her way back to Minerva. Trey then made his way to the bridge where he was briefed on coming events
Some time later
[Sonak] She tapped her combadge again. "Ensign Maverick, are you, Lieutenant Brandy and your marine details in position?"
(Trey)
=/\= yes ma’am positioned and ready we await your arrival trey out =/\=
Within the next 15 minutes sonak had beamed down she look around and then gave her well concealed team a nod. She began to move towards the entrance of the sanctuary trey noticed a slight hesitation in her step, but she slowly walked down the steps trying to fight down what ever anxiety that plagued her. Maverick and Kel’Vak shadowed her as she made her way do to the main area.

At last the Klingon vessel entered the Tiburon system and T'ress leaned back in her seat, smiling in satisfaction. They had come her undetected and undeterred by any annoying merchant vessels, which is just how she liked it. "Get the prisoner from his cell, we are beaming down as soon as we enter orbit."
She rose from her seat in a single graceful motion, stretched her limbs and then checked whether her armour was properly in place. Then she marched off to the vessel's transporter room; a small and dirty space with a barely functional transporter.
Two guards hauled Nova from his cell, caring less about his injuries and dragged him to the transporterroom. Minutes later, T'Ress, Nova and his guards as well as a small security detail beamed down to Tiburon, only meters away from the newly built (but ancient looking) sanctuary.
"Call her," T'ress ordered, glaring at her prisoner. "Call her...or die."

Nova knew he could not give in to easily or T’Ress might get wise and beam back to her ship. He needed that mind-meld to communicate his plan to Sonak and find out what she was planning. It would also allow him the chance to plant false information about Starfleet positions and strength into the enemy camp, if all went well.
“Well I would Dear but I am in no condition to meet guesses,” Nova said as he struggled to straighten his uniform.
T'Ress whirled on Nova and sent him to his knees with a ferocious backhand. Then she kicked hard at Nova's vulnerable midsection, driving the air from Nova's lungs and any thought of standing up from his mind. T'Ress leaned over him and grinned. "You see, Admiral, we Klingons find your Terran sense of humor somewhat ridiculous."
Nova took his chance and aimed a kick up between the Klingon's legs. It connected, though not with as much force as Nova might have hoped. T’Ress grunted and fell on top of him, but with his hands were pinned by her as she caught her fall, Nova could do nothing more to damage his female captor. T’Ress smashed her fist into his face twice before she had him dragged to his feet and sent him reeling in another guard’s direction with a crack-back kick to the base of his spine.
The guard caught him with a knee to the head and he went down again. He took another kick in the ribs which rolled him out of the Klingon's reach. Blood filled his mouth and oozed freely from one corner into his eyes, but he wanted to get up. Nausea doubled him over, but it was important that he stand up. He was desperate to stand on his own and he tried to find his feet, but his head was heaving and twisting around him and his muscles wouldn't hold him. He struggled to his knees and stopped, gasping for breath against the pain in his side where he was certain the ribs were broken.
The two massive Klingon guards loomed over him, laughing. "Careful, my loyal body guards," T’Ress warned. "He is a dangerous one."
One guard getting into Nova’s face growled. "Perhaps if do as T’Ress told you she might stop us from beating you to death."
"Yes, you really should do as I requested," T’Ress said with an evil laugh. She drew a long, slender knife from her belt and placed the tip to Nova's throat. "Do it now or you will DIE!"

ooc: yikes...and I thought I was bad.....
ic:
The commotion brought Sonak out of her meditation, and the moment she opened her eyes anxiety struck again. ~why did I have to end up claustrophobic~ she mused as she fought to remain as composed as possible. Serenely, she strode up the steps and it was all she could do to prevent herself from gasping at Nova's appearance.
Instead, she locked gazes with the Klingon female, who seemed to be in charge, while her hand loosely rested on the straight silver she'd brought back from the ice planet.* "Who are you, and what are you doing here, disturbing my meditation," she demanded, without raising her voice or changing her espression.
T'Ress marched forward and placed the tip of her blade at the Vulcan's throat. "I want information," she snapped, "and he possesses it but I don't have the skill to get at it." She looked the Vulcan over, frowning at her appearance. Under her dark brown loose dress it was quite obvious that she was pregnant. "You live in solitary?" T'Ress scampered, "how'd you get pregnant then?"
"That is my affair," Sonak answered, her gaze locked on the halfbreed's. "If it is information you want, you should try harder at getting it. Though I would warn you, I doubt your prisoner will be able to take much more." Her gaze moved to Nova, who still lay gasping for breath. She dearly hoped he wouldn't make any move that'd betray them both.
"I want a mindmeld," T'Ress informed her, "he named this planet as the location of a Vulcan Master who could help. And he named you specifically."
"Did he?" Sonak answered airily, "I sincerely doubt it, and I shall not aid in a forced mind meld." The tip of the blade pressed harder against her throat, and she pretended to flinch under the pressure, and pretend to be persuaded. "Very well, if it is a mind meld you wish..then that is what you will get. But you will not intrude, it is extremely dangerous and your prisoner could die before I can get at the information."
The Vulcan strode towards Nova and, due to her position, ungracefully kneeled beside him. "Do you trust me?" she whispered at him. At his brief nod, she reached for his face and gently positioned her hands on the katra points on his face. "My mind to your mind, your thoughts to my thoughts," she whispered. The first thing she did was show him that a marine team was standing by to step in at the first signs of danger. The next thing she did was follow his guidance to the information he needed her to reveal.
(Trey, how about seeing this happen from your point of view..without stepping in yet)
(admiral, what is she seeing?)
(ship people...what are you seeing from orbit?)
*See "Mission: Iceberg", the straight silver is a long straight knife....idea 'loaned' from Dan Abnett's book Straight Silver

"We're in orbit. The captors have just beamed down the the surface. They have a human with them. Looks like 6 Warriors. There's also a Vulcan on the surface."
"Good. Lets go do some meet and greet shall we," Kate smiled widly. "Drop cloak and energise."
~Planets surface~
Nick stood in the shadows with the marines. He had insisted on being part of the landing team to watch over the Commodore, that and he was itching to use a phaser again. The marines were watching and tightly gripping their rifles as they watched the display before them. He wanted to rush out and beat the life out of that female Klingon. But for the sake of secrecy he didn't.
The sound of quiet disrupter fire reached their ears. The other marines heard it too, but the Klingons inside the chamber didn't seem to. Must be the enhanced sensor gear the marines carried. The sounds were followed by the rushing of footsteps. Footsteps which were moving towards the chamber.
"Hold," he wispered into his badge.
A woman wrapped in a cloak strode into the chamber followed by two Klingons brandishing rifles. She pulled out a hand distruptor and vaporised the two guards and fired a shot into the shoulder of T'Ress. (Nova gets to finish her)
The woman walked over to Nova and the Vulcan master, and holstered her weapon. They had just finished a mind meld.
"Admiral Nova, your rescue is here."
Nova looked up at Kate quizicly and then back to the Vulcan master, who kept her face shrouded.
"Ummm," he said puzzled. Her presence wasn't expected, that much was obvious. "I'm not entirly sure." The Vulcan master stood up and lowered her hood. Kate looked in surprise upon the face of Sonak. Kate motioned for her guards to drop their weapons and she did the same. Once all the disrupters were on the ground she called out.
"Ok you got us Marines," Kate beconed to the walls. She felt the cold metal of a rifle but press against her neck as a marine decloaked behind her.
"Martens to Vesuvius, comm channels are now open," Nick said from behind Kate, whos head sagged a little more when she heard his voice.
=/\= Sir a second Klingon ship decloaked shortly after the Admiral was beamed down. Now one of them has been destroyed. We can't tell which sir, our sensors glitched due to the atmosphere. =/\=
"Yannis," Kate whispered softly praying she wasn't on the ship which is now orbital confetti. Her combadge beeped repeatedly.
"Answer it," Sonak said. She did.
/'\Mistress, the enemy has been dealt with. We are victorious./'\
"T'lana drop sheilds and disarm weapons. The Vesuvius has you surrounded," Nick ordered decloak and T'lana swore over the comm.
/'\Very well Mistress. Your daughter wants to talk to you./'\
/'\Mommy!? It's the Vesuvius!! Daddy's here!! I knew he'd come/'\
"That he did pumpkin. I'll signal him to beam you over and we'll all have dinner."
/'\Ok mommy, I'll see you soon. Love you!/'\ the comm shut off. Kate turned around and softly smiled at Nick, who shrugged and lowered his rifle. Kate turned to Nova.
"If it suits you sir, there is a Klingon ship in orbit prepared to take you home. It's evident that I won't be going along for the ride, due to my wanted status. I assure you that my crew is honorable, not one of them is wanted by the empire."
(nova)
Before Nova could respond, Sonak spoke up. "She cannot be trusted," she said coldly, "she is the cause of the destruction of my previous ship and she murdered my first bondmate. Since then she has attempted to destroy my ship and kill me, my family and my crew..and not just once, but several times."
(Nova)

"and there's being transported between ship and surface." Fox turned to him "Scan the vessel." he ordered "and why didn't we see them? Our sensors can penetrate cloaks can't they?" "They haven't detected us, but they're charging weapons and firing on the other klingon vessel." A second later the bright light of the explosion of the vessel was visible on the main screen. Again the officer called "Weapon fire detected on the planet. Should we do something?" Fox shook his head. "The marines can take it, we would just blow our cover. But keep monitoring that klingon vessel." Not much later Nicks voice could be heard over the comm channel "Martens to Vesuvius, comm channels are now open," Immediately Fox responded "We have detected weapon fire down there. Is everyone alright?" "Yes we are." Nick replied short then gave the order to decloak. Fox looked at one of the officers. "You heard the man." A second later Discordia was visible. Minerva and Mercury also appeared on the main screen floating around the klingon vessel.

Listening in on the chatter over the comm, Byrne sat in Engineering watching the status displays monitoring the cloaked holo-generators on the planet, hoping thet didn't get disrupted with all the weapons fire going on.
Accessing the medical relays, Byrne was keeping a side eye on the bioscans of the Commadore down on the surface, knowing how stressful it is for her, being pregnant and claustrophobic. "Commander Fox, do we have a working status of actually how many vessels are playing this game?", Byrne asked tapping the comm button in front of him. "We are only at readiness, for thew assault and rescue of the admiral, we are stretched for resources to engage in any fire fights. I am still rerouting power to the generators on the planet, as not to disrupt the illusion for the santuary. I am trying to energize the ventral warp nacelle to vent plasma into space to obscure our signature until I can gain control of the power grid running the simulation."
With that Logan headed to the secondary field control room. There he was able to modify the EPS feed to the inertial damping field, there by allowing a slight increase in the shielding, in case they engaged the enemy. =^=, "Commander, as a heads up, if you decide to fire any of the weapons system, or manuvuer quicky, you might want to hold on to something, inertial dampening has been decreased to 72% to allow us to stand a chance in a fire fight., Byrne out."=^=.
With that , he headed to the bridge to monitor all of the upcoming events first hand.

An hour later
Maverick and kel’vak shadowed sonak as she made he way back to the surface to greet there new guest. A very tall half breed klingon, two guards and nova, trey motioned to his Marines to stand ready in case they were in need of having to move in fast the half breed and sonak began to talk. It seems she needed help getting into novas head. When sonak declined to assist her, the female klingon brought her weapon to sonaks throat. At this instant trey was ready to move in on the klingontake her out but was held back by kel’vak
“There is no need to be rash” the Vulcan said with is hand on trey’s shoulder “the commodore can take care of her self in this instant.”
“ok??... if you say so but am moving on the next threat”
More to come soon not done yet

ooc: applying fluidic timeline...posting as T'ress going from start of mindmeld to appearance of Kate and gang... note: Nova isn't safe yet...and Sonak is serious about not letting him go with Kate..she won't authorize it.
ic:
T'Ress watched with increasing interest as the Vulcan defied her, she didn't appear vulnerable to her threats. Yet, T'Ress knew there was something fishy about her, she hadn't missed the air of anxiety when she'd appeared from her home.
Being part Klingon, suspicion was part of her nature, but her Vulcan half constantly fought that part. So she put it aside and decided to just watch the proceedings. The Vulcan approached her prisoner, placing her hands on his bruised face. Delighted, she watched her prisoner flinch upon the touch, all kinds of emotions crossing his face as the Vulcan probed deeper into his mind.
T'Ress knew the human was in agony, she'd seen to that with her interrogation techniques. She was so intent on watching her prisoner and the Vulcan that she was oblivious to additional people beaming down and shooting her guards on sight. Only when one of her guards screamed, did she whirl around then step quicly towards the human and Vulcan, who were still engaged in the mindmeld.
She aimed her disruptor at the Vulcan and placed her blade against the human's throat. Either way if she'd be killed she'd take one of them with her in death. Then the two stirred as their mindmeld resolved, and things started moving fast.
The woman who had beamed down started offering to take her prisoner home upon which the Vulcan seemed on the verge of losing her temper. T'Ress put some more distance between herself and the Vulcan, now believing this woman was dangerous. Especially when it turned out she was a Starfleet Commodore, in command of a ship which was in orbit. She still held her weapon trained on the human admiral, believing this was her only leverage.
"Step back, or I'll kill him," she demanded, "tell me the information I need to know and he'll live.
Sonak regarded the Klingon hybrid coldly, but said nothing. Instead, she just gazed up at her, while she remained kneeled beside the injured admiral. She motioned for Trey and Kel'vak to keep an eye on T'Ress, while she attended to Nova. "You must not go with Kate," she insisted, "she cannot be trusted. You need medical attention, which I can provide for you. Can you stand?"
(Nova/Trey/everyone else?)

In Minerva's Sickbay, Hedin and his nurses were busily handing out the last pieces of equipment and orders to his emergency medical team in preparation for their being called down to the surface to render aid. Satisfied that they were as ready as could be expected, he turned his attention briefly to the large situation monitor screen in his office where the bioscan readouts of both the Commodore and the marine platoon were displayed. Thus far, everyone's vital signs were relatively stable, if rather taxed due to stress nominal for their situation.
Sonak's baby, however, had begun to feel some residual telepathic distress resulting from the forced mindmeld with an understandably shaken Admiral Nova. Fortunately, Hedin had discussed such an eventuality with the Commodore during their last checkup, and though the use of a psilosynine inhibitor, designed to limit the production of a vital telepathic neurotransmitter, was ruled out for fear that her mind meld with the Admiral would be adversely affected, Hedin was able to recommend giving the baby a type of vitamin known for its ability to strengthen infant synaptic connections and thus better insulating the child against psychic shock. The mental shock would still be apparent, but physically, this would result in the neurons being more resilient to trauma.
Hedin also took the extra precaution of readying his own mind to compensate for the anticipated stress that would undoubtedly be felt by both mother and child. It was not an ability he often had cause, or even inclination, to exercise. However, the health of both his charges was of paramount concern to Hedin, and should the occasion arise, he would not hesistate to use his own telepathic powers in order to safeguard that health, no matter how uncomfortable and unpredictable those powers could be.
He would have to keep a tight reign on them, of course, and cease their use at the first sign of any loss of control. But a situation as unique as this called for a unique approach; besides, Hedin was fine-tuning his control with each telepathic exercise. There was reason to be on guard, but no reason to shy away from a carefully calculated risk. Hedin had explained this to the Commodore, and she was aware of the dangers they all faced. Now, it was up to the fates to decide how far they would all be tested.

(occ: a bit of back posting)
Nick looked across the room at L'Ola pondering her question. He smiled softly.
"No you can go back to active duty. I can see why you'd do something like that. Reman on the other hand won't get off so easily as he's the one actually responsable for stealing Starfleet property."
The comm beeped, =/\= sir the ship we encountered earlier has entered orbit. It hasn't decloaked yet.=/\=
"Thanks," he looked at L'Ola, "I've got to go down to the planet. We'll talk later."
Ha placed a hand on her shoulder as he walked by, "Everythings going to be alright."
~~planetside~~
"You don't understand," she said softly to him, no anger in her voice.
"I don't need to," he replied. They slowly walked out of the chamber. He kept his rifle ready but not pointed at her. Behind him was her Klingon crewmates also being guided by some Marines.
"I'm here to help. Nothing more. I don't expect you or Sonak to trust me. I've changed I swear."
She looked him in the eye. "Life is too short to hold a grudge and hate you. I wish you could see that," she said softly.
Nick tapped his combadge, "We're ready down here. Energise."
Seconds later they arrived on Vesuvius and Kanz stood at the ready with a security team. Behind her stood a tiny figure about 3 feet tall. She ran from behind L'Ola and dove into his arms.
"Daddy!!" she squeeled.
"Munchkin!"
L'Ola motioned the security guards to take their prisoners to the brig and smiled at Nick and Yannis.
"We've taken control of the Klingon vessel and put her crew in the brig. We can supply a skelton crew if Nova wants to take it back to Starbase 47."
"I'll let Sonak and Nova know. Thanks L'Ola," he smiled at her and then moved his attention back to his daughter. He stood up with her in his arms and walked out of the transporter room.
"Whats going to happen to mommy?" she asked.
"I'm not sure yet. We've got alot of investigation to do."
"Will I get to visit her?"
"You bet," I'll make sure you get to see her.
"Good. I don't know why she wanted a stinky Klingon ship though. I like the Vesuvius much much better daddy. It's soft."
"That it is, that it is," he smiled and looked at his daughter. The family was back together.

Nick leaned against the door frame of his daughters room. It felt good to have her back and safe on the ship. This was the first time he'd seen her in a year, not in any way intentional. Being kidnapped by Cardassians wasn't exactly on his list of things to do while she was in the hospital.
He looked over her sleeping form and smiled. You could see a faint scar just below her hair line where she hit her head a year earlier. For a kid who was supposed to be permanently disabled she sure was resilient. ~must be her mother~ he thought and chuckled to himself.
His mind shifting to Kate he stepped back into the main room and closed Yannis' room. He flopped down on the couch and sighed. Maybe she was right, maybe holding hatred was affecting him and that he needed to let go. God he missed the old days.
~
"Hey stranger," she said to him with a soft smile. She sat down in the chair next to him and placed her drink on the table. It was a Tarkalian Smoothy, her favorite.
"Hey," he said with a smile and gave her a quick kiss. He placed an arm around her and looked out at the sunset. Nothing was better than this. Young and in love out on their first mission together. The agency wasn't too keen on them getting married but they couldn't argue with their best two agents.
"We should come here more often," she said laying her head on his shoulder.
"If only the Beta Quadrant was closer to home," he replied watching the plasma stream by from the gas giant they were orbiting. The Red Giant was slowly eating the planets in orbit. How they weren't sure but it sure looked cool.
A beep resonated through the cabin and the laptop started to open . On the screen was the agencies emblem. The both scampered over to the screen. It was a recorded message sending them to their next mission.
Kate and Nick looked at each other with wide eyes.
~
A beep resonated through his quarters jarring him out of his sleep. He'd fallen asleep on his chair. The beeping persisted, he realised it as his combadge.
"Martens here," he said groggily.
=/\=Incoming encoded message for you sir.=/\=
"Thanks Barker, route it down here."
The laptop on his desk started opening and he sat down behind it to recieve the message. A few seconds later an emblem which he hadn't seen in quite a few years appeared. It was a message for them both.

Upon seeing the current firefight on the planet, Byrne reoriented the holo-emitters on the planet to isolate Sonak and Nova within a nprotective bubble to avoid any stray phaser or disruptor blasts hitting them. As the ground team picked off the last of the Klingon guards, he remodulated the emitters to place a scattering field to not allow anymore soldiers from beaming down. After isolating the staff members, Byrne immediately contacted the doctor on what he had done. =^= "Doctor, i have isolated the command staff within a field using the emitters that are allowing us to see them seperate from the others in the Away team. You should be albe to "see" them with the med lab sensors and monitor what is going on. If you need to beam them out, I can get you a dedicated transporter, in a moments notice.,Byrne out."=^=. With that, Byrne entered the tubes adjacent to Cargo Bay 3, allowing him access to the primary emergency transporter control. This system was to be used in emergency catastrophic situations for beaming personnel past normal transporter ranges. By dedicating this circuit, he could isolate the commodore and admiral in a moments notice, while still being able to lock onto the ground support as well. Sitting in the alcove, awaiting the signal for a beam out call, Byrne kept running the whole Falconian thing through his mind. Why was Hawk so general about his background and why the message was only directed at MO and CEO. He could only think that there was something that Hawk was telling him, but something he thought he may already have known. The secret of the ages, Falconians and humans did have a once common place of origin. But how did Hawk know about that, Logan may be a source of past knowledge, that never came into conversation. Distracted in thought, Byrne did not hear the claxon going off stating the updated stage of alert within the ship. <Tag Martens>.....

~During the Mind Meld~
Nova was in tremendous pain and Sonak managed to suppress some of the worst pain using her Vulcan talents to block his neural receptors. Sonak was able to see the terrible torturer Nova went through at the hands of this Klingon witch. She instructed Admiral Nova not to show any loss of pain or T’Ress might get wise. Nova still had enough pain to make it look real and his mind was clearing enough for him to communicate coherently with Sonak
Sonak relayed her plan and deployment of her crew and ships to the Admiral. Sonak was a little concerned to see what horrible shape Nova was in and knew he needed medical help soon.
Nova managed to give Sonak the false information about the fleet, ship strength and positions, which she was to pass on to T’Ress but only after what seemed like a long time to extract it. T’Ress must never suspect that anything is other than what they wanted her to think.
Nova also impressed that this Klingon female should be allowed to escape in the hopes that she would lead them back to the leader of their group. If she could not pursue the Klingon then Sonak should pass all data along to K’Thor, who should be somewhere close by. This data would allow K’Thor the evidence he needed to get involved in this matter.

T'Ress watched the two engaged in a mindmeld and was only barely able to restrain herself from intruding. She knew she could destroy them both by doing so, in which case she'd not learn what she needed to learn. If the Vulcan failed to pass on what she'd learned, she could always extract the information from her mind.
After what seemed eternity, the Vulcan finally released her hold on the admiral and unsteadily got back to her feet. A Vulcan dressed in a marine uniform shot to her side to support her but she shook him off, quickly composing herself.
T'Ress admired her strength and resilience, but now was not a time to dwell on that. "What have you learned," she demanded, leveling her disruptor once more. The marine's hand shot down to his weapon, but Sonak waved him off. It was apparent that she was not so alone as she appeared to be, and T'Ress now wondered how many others were present.
The Tandaran had beamed away with the female who'd shot her crew. Now, T'Ress was alone and outnumbered, but she still had her aim on the Vulcan and the human admiral. She could kill them both before anyone could react. "The information," she repeated.
Sonak looked up at the hybrid and sighed, then relayed all information she had learned, repeating exactly how Nova had shown it to her. She stood protectively before the section admiral, fully aware of the dangers involved. "Now leave," Sonak icily told her, "we have no use of you. You may hold the weapon now, but my ship has a lock on you. Leave now before I change my mind."
The Vulcan had no time to deal with a rogue Klingon/Vulcan hybrid, there were other issues at hand. Like dealing with two rogue officers of her own and getting the admiral home in one piece. She watched as T'Ress didn't need to be told twice to leave and beamed out without further fuss.
Sonak tapped her combadge. "Keep track of the Klingon vessel now leaving the system," she instructed, "has the vessel been tagged for future tracking?"
(Byrne/Martens)
She motioned to Trey who had remained close to her, while Kel'val had returned to scouting the area. "Assist Kel'vak," she told him, "we need to be certain all of them have left this system. We can leave the sanctuary for the locals to use if they have need of it."
(Maverick)
She tapped her combadge again. "Sonak to Minerva module, two to beam directly to sickbay." She felt the transporter beam take her and she blinked in slight disorientation when she re-appeared in sickbay. Hedin was immediately at her side, a worried frown on his face. "Help Nova," she told him, "I am fine." Together they transported the injured admiral to a biobed. "Once he is patched up, send him to the bridge," she told her CMO, "he will not want to remain in sickbay."
Softly, she smiled at Hedin. "Commanding officers, aside from doctors, make the worst patients. Especially admirals are worrysome patients, trust me. Do what you can for him, but do urge him to rest?"
(Hedin/Nova)
After submitting herself to a final scan on Hedin's insistense, Sonak returned to the bridge. She had barely arrived when a message was patched through from Mercury. "I have someone here you may want to talk to," Martens started, "I have released her to full duty, but Commander Jared has been restricted to quarters."
"I shall deal with Jared later," Sonak answered, then smiled as L'Ola's face appeared on the screen. "You have gotten yourself in quite a mess commander," the Vulcan continued, "would you care to enlighten me as to why? I understand that it has to do with a mutual acquaintance of ours, and a close family member of yours." Since Logan, who had joined her on the bridge, didn't know about Lucy's history, Sonak didn't feel it was her place to disclose that information to him and so she didn't call Lucy by her name. "How do you wish to proceed on this?"
(Kanz)
A few hours later, Mercury module Sonak stood before the quarters that were assigned to Reman Jared while he remained on Mercury. She had pressed the chime but didn't wait to be called in. Instead she overrode the doorlock and entered. "You have some explaining to do commander," she stated, "you are lucky Commander Martens is so mild, because I would have left you in the brig. You have violated my trust, stole Federation property and sold said property to mercenaries. Not to mention, in your little escapade you could have endangered this entire operation. What have you to say for yourself?"

Jared had been amusing himself by seeing how long he could remain standing on his head whilst in the brig. He was up to five minutes and blurry vision by the time someone came to take him to his Mercury quarters. The guard in question looked somewhat puzzled by the activity but didn't question it. As they walked, Jared's little robot hovered very carefully behind the guard's head on the way to the quarters and once inside moved away out of sight. The behaviour puzzled Jared. Of course, the thing was capable of doing so, but it wasn't meant to be intelligent, previously it only did anything with express orders to do so. This wasn't the first time it had started showing signs of greater AI than before. Jared would have tried to find out how but didn't know what he would be looking for and of the only three engineers he'd trust to find it, one was missing, one had left and one was dead.
Eventually, the chime sounded and Sonak barged in. Jared reflected that had he been waiting for an escape opportunity then Sonak's unescorted entry would have meant she would have been the one greeted with the tiger claw death strike and not one of the security lot. He also reflected that had he been in the shower or something, it may have had a similar effect on Sonak's sensibilites. 'What have you to say for yourself?' she demanded 'Reman Jared, second lieutenant, trading ship Ambition, Nomad' Sonak looked irritated 'Explain your actions' 'What actions? Someone stole a shuttle which could have either been me or Kanz since there were no active recording devices around at the time. That person then asked the other to help them, the two took a trip to an unregistered and therefore by Federation law unexistant starbase and returned with a better ship. Whereby the module Mercury followed the original shuttle and retrieved it because everyone knows Federation shuttles have trackers which only an idiot would take the shuttle and not turn the thing off if they really wanted it to stay stolen. The only proven actions are that a shuttle was taken and that shuttle was recovered whilst obtaining a better vessel' Jared wasn't sure that 'unexistant' was actually a word, but he supposed it was now. Hopefully whatever language Sonak was listening in, she could understand it. 'Are you blaming Commander Kanz for this?' 'I am merely pointing out that I could blame her and she blame me, at which point you'll be forced to blame both of us. Which considering her current personal condition would be considerably unfair since she is of course worried about her daughter even though she won't admit it even though anyone can see it.' 'There is greater evidence that you took the shuttle though.' Sonak pointed out 'Not at all. The Security chief has pretty much as much access as even the captain of the ship since he is one of the two people able to take the captain off duty. Also, only an incompetant security chief would not know the full shuttle compliment in case of an emergency and if you suggest that, you suggest Kanz is incompetant and thus ineligable for duty. Your proof is based on only an assumption that all Venturers are thieving low lives with no honour or consideration. It might be a rightful assumption that I took the shuttle, but then again it might not' 'Very well then' Sonak changed track 'what caused the...taking...of the shuttle and why were you involved' 'Because Kanz is worried about Lucy. Lucy is with some of the Venturers and so the only person likely to be able to find her is another Venturer. Since the Federation policy is that people are worth more than ships, trading a shuttle for the ability to follow Lucy is perfectly allowable. Of course, if the whole of the Vesuvius went to Multo to find things out, we'd be floating the rest of the way in so many little bits that all the king's horses couldn't put us back again.' 'So the shuttle was the way in?' 'Yes, enough Federation equipment is stolen and sold on that noone questions it. Of course, the more unique the equipment, the higher the price tag' 'So you bartered the shuttle for information?' 'No, I already had the information. The shuttle was traded for the larger ship, the Lady Verander, which can be used to contact any Venturer groups without needing to fly around in blatantly Federation technology and risk being shot down. I did find a little more out from a contact on the starbase though, which suggests that Lucy has gone deep into Venturer territory beyond the easy reach of warp speed. The only wormhole going there is controlled by a Venturer group so we need to be able to convince them to let the Vesuvius through. That means going on the Lady to talk with them before the Vesuvius arrives, should we choose to follow her.' 'Why did neither of you discuss this with me before your actions?' 'Because, frankly, this is a matter of shipmates so does not need permission. Venturer code insists that all efforts are made to help shipmates, either past or present. Not to mention the fact that just as Martens attempted to take Mercury to Multo, causing us to intercept him and be taken on board, you are just as likely to underestimate the threat and take all of Vesuvius. Just as Starfleet captains have taken their ships there before to challenge the locals and ended up stardust, Vesuvius would too.' 'You are not a Venturer anymore, you are a Starfleet officer.' Sonak pointed out 'Wrong, being a Venturer is not something you stop. It is a culture unto itself and cannot just be forgotten. You wouldn't expect a Klingon to forgot his honour either. Also, our actions brought Brekk to you, which wouldn't have happened otherwise. It was a lucky strike, although it is of course possible that my contact knowingly sold him the shuttle since they did not turn off the tracker either. Either way, you can't incriminate me without incriminating Kanz' <Sonak>

Before Sonak could respond to Reman, her combadge chirped and when she acknowledged the call, it was Byrne informing her of the ship's status. "Thank you commander, carry on," she told him, then turned back to Reman, who had just finished his story.
Either way, you can't incriminate me without incriminating Kanz'
Sonak raised an eyebrow at her COO. "Yes I can," she told him, "I am going to overthing this issue now and i will call you and commander Kanz when I have reached a decision. You are to remain in your quarters until further notice. Oh and should you wish to leave, the guards outside have orders to stun you if they even see so much as your nose peering out through the doorway. And do not think you can use Sprite either, he will be deactivated if he so much as aids you...permanently."
The Vulcan turned on her heels and waded out of the operations chief's quarters. She sighed as she transported back to Minerva and finally entered her readyroom. She paged Nick to meet her in a few minutes while she tried to sort her thoughts on the entire issue. She knew she had to take steps and make an example of them and what irked her even more was that Reman had been right. She couldn't let him take the fall without reprimanding Kanz too, however she could make a difference in severity of punishment, as she strongly believed that Kanz would never have gone out on her own like that. She would've needed proper encouragement from a strong-willed person such as Reman.
She sighed again as she leaned back in her seat, absentmindedly rubbing her abdomen. She had tried meditating for a while but she couldn't get there, certainly not with four other children running around crying for attention. Jatan was being very supportive and had left her alone to gather her thoughts, knowing how important this was for her. He knew she'd give him the attention he needed too, when he needed it, and she left him alone when he need to be too.
Sonak picked up her PADD and began to read her mission report, as well as the message she was about to send to Admiral Arok. Admiral Nova was safe and recovering in sickbay under the care of Doctor Hedin, and a newly appointed assistant, Doctor Andrews. Sonak wondered where the assistant had come from, but as long as Hedin had help it was fine with her. And as commanding officers, and admirals in particular, could be very difficult patients, she was glad Hedin had help. She made a mental note to go visit the admiral after her current issue was dealt with.
When Nick finally entered, she held up her PADD to him. "I believe I have reached a decision," she told him and gave him some time to read the information on the PADD. She continued to explain her motivations to him and when he nodded she called both Reman Jared and L'Ola Kanz to report to her office. Nick sat down on the couch beside her desk to observe. He was very good at becoming invisible when he wanted to, Sonak admired him for that.
At last the two officers stood before her, Reman looked rather self-confident but L'Ola looked less certain. Sonak rose from her seat as gracefully as possible, glancing at both officers. "It is with regret that I have to do this, but it is a commanding officer's duty to reprimand those that have gone astray from the line of duty," she started. "I have heard your stories, and I have taken note of them in my decision."
Sonak paused, once more making eye-contact with both officers. "You have absconed with Starfleet property, namely the Vesuvius test rig Vesuviette without authorisation, you have sold said property without authorisation and you have gone absent without leave. Furthermore, your actions could have seriously compromised our mission, thereby endangering the lives of the crew of the Vesuvius as well as that of Admiral Nova."
She paused again, taking a deep breath. "It is therefor that I have no other choice but to demote you to full commander. Additionally, you are both restricted in the use of shuttlecrafts henceforth. Commander Jared, as I still believe that you bear more responsebility in this issue, I am also taking away your shoreleave privileges until further notice. You are dismissed"
(Reman/Kanz)
Once the two officers had gone, she sagged back in her chair, utterly drained. "I am going to sickbay," she told Nick, "you have the bridge, unless you need to be elsewhere?"
(Martens)
Sonak left her readyroom and headed down to sickbay. To her utter surprise, their esteemed guest was still resting on one of the biobeds, and he looked a whole sight better than when they had first beamed him aboard. Instead of heading for Hedin, she detoured towards Nova. "I am relieved to find you in better health admiral," she told him, "how do you feel?"
(Nova)
"I have contacted Admiral Arok and he is sending a fighter wing to escort you home. As Mrs Martens will be detained on this vessel, you have the option of flying her vessel home. Another option is to take our test rig, the Vesuviette, an option which I highly recommend."
(Nova)

Jared thought briefly on the mention of using Sprite when Sonak brought the topic up. For one thing it was technically illegal for her to suggest effectively killing the thing if it exhibited signs of intelligence. Either way, Jared wasn't going to risk use of the little robot. Its erratic behaviour meant that it was more of a liability than usual. Once Sonak was gone, he spent the rest of the time with Sprite's plugin screen looking at the programme details. Of course, it looked odd; the fact it seemed to be running something LCARS compatible now showed that. The rest was just words to Jared.
Eventually, he and Kanz were summoned to Sonak's ready room. Martens was lurking at the back attempting to be as non existant as possible. Did Sonak suspect they'd try to kill her or something? The list of consequences was not out of the unexpected. The rank didn't much matter compared to the job done; Jared wasn't much of one for shuttles either way and the Lady Verander was now set only to respond to him and Kanz, although she didn't know it, and the only way to reset it was to replace the whole computer core. As for shoreleave, well, it's not like Jared had any friends on the Starbases either. As the pair were dismissed, Jared removed his black pip and placed it on the desk, then with a sense of statisfaction, left. Duty had been done to shipmate and honour was kept. Jared just wondered how Kanz was taking this...

A red blinking dot was visible on it, meaning that was the location of T'Ress' ship. As far as he could see nothing kept them from following her secretly. Fox really wanted to know who was behind this all, who kept them so busy. He tabbed his comm-badge "Fox to Sonak, will we persuit that klingon ship?" "Not at present commander, but keep tracking its signal," Sonak replied."Aye Ma'am." Fox said in responce.
