It was hard not to take Nack's statement that Sharp should have more oversight this time as jab against her. Maybe she hadn't done as well as she could have in stopping him from snooping on the Breen, but she would have thought that a simple analysis of the situation they had been in would show the security officer that the disadvantages of such actions outweighed the advantages.
Still, Nika tried to ignore the implication of Nack's statement and focus on the present situation instead. And he was right, so she approved the team as he envisioned it and they left. She watched the readouts of the away team, and frowned when they went out of range, apparently to the insuppressible amusement of a junior officer, ACNO, Ensign Matt Baker.
“What is it?” Nika asked, welcoming the opportunity for something other than the blank readout.
“It's nothing, sir,” Baker replied.
“Still...” Nika smiled to show that she wasn't upset with Baker for his reaction.
“It's just that you look about as worried as Commander Nack did when you were on the Breen ship.”
Nika's smile broadened a little. She could see how that would be true, and it was kind of amusing to think on how precisely the situations were reversed now.
Before leaving the Breen ship, Nika had given Kol a way to contact her through a series of relays that eventually led through Firont, thus allowing a conversation to occur without risking anyone's safety. As long as no one was looking over Kol's shoulder, that was. Making it look like the signal was coming from Breen itself wouldn't do much good then, considering that Nika was obviously not Breen and was wearing a Starfleet uniform.
It was using this system that Nika now received a communiqué, which she went to her ready room to answer. “Captain,” Kol greeted her. “My situation has...resolved itself somewhat.”
Nika was incredibly relieved to see that Kol was still alive, and, if she'd been in the habit of asking questions or for assurances she might have rushed to ask how the situation had been resolved. Instead, Nika just figured that Kol would tell her if there was something she needed to know.
“I'm no longer under orders to destroy your ship.”
Nika raised her eyebrows. “That's good,” she said after a pause, because Kol seemed to be expecting her to say something. That apparently wasn't enough, because the Breen officer still didn't talk. “Why?” Nika asked.
“A whole bunch of politics. I ended up calling in a few favors, as well as having a bunch of other events line up to your advantage.”
“Well, thank you,” Nika said. She knew she wasn't understanding the politics here, but she didn't think she needed to. Whatever Kol had done, or had just happened, it had worked. “We're working on finding the ambassador, and following up on various leads,” she informed, being deliberately vague.
“I wish you success,” Kol replied. “If you can find the ambassador, hopefully we'll be able to pick up from where we left off. Which was talking about negotiating a peace agreement that would have a better chance of lasting, as well as some trade agreements. Unfortunately, we were forced to break off discussion when the ambassador went missing. It seemed too likely that someone was trying to sabotage the talks.”
“You though someone was trying to prevent peace talks so you broke off those talks yourself?” Nika asked. “I don't think that makes sense.”
“It does,” Kol informed her. “If we were to go through the final peace agreement with a different negotiator, someone we hadn't been working with for a long while, we'd all be more likely to make a mistake. And it's better not to have a peace agreement at all than to have a faulty one.”
“I see,” Nika said.

"If that blue field turns back on, I don't want to be the next pile of slime." Tiana winced at the FO's words, that of course was one possibility but she hadn't dared to voice it. "Or beamed off to who-knows-where."
"How long will it take to modulate each of the tricorders to mask our biosigns?"
Tiana pushed a few more buttons before answering "Just a couple of minutes. I want to make sure I can simply over ride the program if needed."
Commander Nack turned to address the rest of the away team. "Our first priority is to find Commander Sharp, or at least ascertain on whether he had been disintegrated or dematerialized." he shivered and continued, "Second, we need to find out what is on the other side of that forcefield, and why it appears hostile."
Tiana quickly finished her programme and sent to to the other members of the away team. She looked at the disturbing sight on her tricorder as one by one the away team's biosigns disappeared. She switched to the alternate channel which was close range only and tuned specifically to each person. The lifesigns registerd.
"Excellent. Now let's go". The FO said.
The forcefield was still there but it stayed quiet as the away team approached. There was no blue glow and nothing untoward happened.
Nack reached out and touched the field. It flared at his touch but nothing else happened. "We need to deactivate this! Whoever does it, though will be exposing themselves, assuming they use a tricorder. It doesn't have enough energy to emit a reverse-pulse-harmonic AND mask your lifesign." Nack stood around pondering. Tiana's mind was working along the same lines. They just needed to find something with more power and the ability to emit energy pulses..
"Suggestions on how to proceed." The FO said.
Tiana grinned as an idea struck her. She drew her phaser started fiddling the settings. "I think," she said and then realised that she was pointing the weapon in the general direction of Commander Nack. She hastily rearranged things so the phaser was now pointing at the the floor between them. "I think I can recalibrate my phaser to provide the necessary pulse. Shouldn't take too long."
She continued to fiddle with the phaser. She fired a very low powered shot at the force field some of the other member of the away team moved away from her and others simply eyed her dubiously. Tiana ignored them and checked the readings. Things looked good. She changed the power setting upwards.
"Okay everyone I think this should do it. You might want to get back as I'm not quite sure what'll happen when the forcefield goes down. She followed her own advice and stood at the corner phaser pointed towards the forcefield and one finger hovering over the firing stud.

"Ready when you are, Commander." The phaser was a much more crude way of disabling the force field than Nack had hoped Commander Galwyn would devise. Of course, her resources were severely limited. The surgical impregnation of .. of whatever was behind that forcefield, would have to give way to the brute force method. The phaser fumbled in her hands, eventually pointing in the direction of the Ferengi as she spoke.
Nack nervously pointed at her weapon, trying to get her to realize where it aimed. Without seeing Nack's expression, she moved the phase distributing end toward the forcefield. The low powered burst she sent toward it seemed to satisfy her, although it did nothing to the field.
"I suggest you turn the pow..." but Tiana was a few steps ahead of him and had already upped the power.
As she was about to fire, movement could be seen behind the field. In case she hadn't seen it, the first officer yelled, "DON'T FIRE!"
It had scared everyone in the cavern, including himself, as the sound of his voice echoed off of the damp, cold walls. "I thought I saw movement!" Nack aimed his wrist light over.
"It's Sharp!" he said, although Sharp appeared only a few inches tall. "The forcefield is causing a distorted depth of field." Having a closer look, Nack could see that the cave opening also appeared smaller on the other side, leading to his conclusion. Optics was a major part of holographic programming, which was the First Officer's former pastime- before he was so busy helping Command a Starship.
They could not hear the miniature looking Sharp, who was waving his hands back in forth apparently pleading for the rest of the away team to abandon their shooting. He then turned around, pointed deeper in the cave, turn back, and put his finger to his mouth.
"He's telling us to be quiet!"
Sharp cuffed his hand to his ear to show he was listening, and then nod to confirm he was hearing something. The game of charades was their only line of quick communication for the moment.
"He hears something, I think." but Sharp lost interest in what he was listening to, and instead started pointing at something on the cave wall.
Nack walked over to the wall, directly in line with where Sharp was pointing. He looked, but nothing was there. Feeling the wall he felt nothing.
"I don't see anything here... what's he pointing at?" Nack thought for a moment. "If we are seeing him small... there has to be significant refraction occurring. Like a straw in a glass filled with water. The straw appears disjoint. If that is true... he would be pointing to something, but it would appear he was point to something much lower than he intended.
Nack felt up the wall and found a lever. A blue glow emanated, and a loud noise was heard
The crew found themselves rematerializing on the other side of the forcefield. "At least we know you are safe," Nack said to the Security officer before he briefed them on what he had discovered on his side of the forcefield.

"Are you busy?" Russell looked up from his report on Nack to find the same man standing in the door way of his office. Before Daniel could say anything Nack took a seat and spoke, "I need a checkup, and I figured while we were on the way to Haptan Beta I might as well pay a visit." Russell considered weither it was wise to send the XO though a evaluation when he had already completed one from what he had saw and what people around the ship had been saying, "You aren't busy are you?" Nack stood up, realizing he had barged in. "I'll leave if you want." Russell at this point placed the Padd on the desk infrount of him, “Sir, I have already completed your evaluation for Star Fleet. To be fair I did a little digging seems a Captain went a little loopy without the ships counsellor noting it.” Russell pushed the evaluation towards Nack “if you want you can read it before I send it, but I have seen nor heard anything that would concern me in the least, I hear more about Sharp’s little excursion and Tiana’s recent activities from the science dept than about you to be fair” Russell watched Nack quickly look though the report before he placed it back on the desk “Well if there is not anything else I think I will place a request for more staff, I am away half a day and the paperwork seems to have taken over my desk” Russell watched as Nack left then looked down at the personel request form and began to fill it in.
Russell was having no luck with the form when the consol on his desk beeped
TO: SHIP'S COUNSELOR FROM: CHIEF SCIENCE OFFICER
RUSSELL I AM GOING ON AWAY MISSION TO HAPTAN BETA. DO YOU WANT TO GO FOR A DRINK + A MEAL WHEN I GET BACK? TIANA XXX
Russell quickly thought of what to say but could not find the words so he just write down something and hoped for the best ‘I am terrible at these sorts of things’
TO: CHIEF SCIENCE OFFICER FROM: SHIP’S COUNSELOR
TIANA THAT SOUNDS GREAT, I WILL STAY ON THE BRIDGE SO I NOW EXACTLY WHEN YOU GET BACK RUSSELL X
Russell picked up the Padd with the incomplete request form and made his way up to the bridge. As he arrived on the bridge he looked around to see the Captain as the only senior officer present nodding as he took his seat Russell began to work on the request form as the captain moved fairly quickly to her ready room.
As time progressed Russell was brought back to reality when one of the duty officers spoke “Sir, Commander Sharp’s lifesign seems to have disappeared” Russell looked at the officer then moved over to see for himself while watching he noted that the rest of the away team seemed fine “maybe he found a way though he is good at what he does” Russell mumered under his breath. A few moments later the biosigns of the rest of the away team seemed to change, tapping his comm. badge he called to the captain =/\=Captain Cir’kem to the bridge=/\= Russell then turned to the Ensign “keep monitoring I want to know the moment anything down there changes” Russell did not feel to comfortable giving orders but until the captain arrived he was the senior most officer on the bridge.

Scene: Main Bridge
“Science Officer Voice "Sir, I am reading some signals from a debris field just out of range of our sensors from the other side of the planet... they seem to be the remains of a ship of some Kind ... There are high traces of fission materials."
"Cmdr Matthew Mr. O’Hara. you are the senior Science officer on the bridge I Need something more Conclusive to tell the Captain Then that " Matthew said in an even voice,
"I want some Conclusive sensor data on that debris field - take what science/engineering resources you deem necessary, but I want to know exactly what Destroyed that Vessel ". “Cmdr Matthew’ helm adjust our Station take us with in 400metres of the Debris field at that Distant and even with the Radiation Spikes from that Gas Giant our sensors cant get clear reading “
"Cmdr Matthew Right. Mr. Shultz. I want a complete scan of the Debris out there. and Transport A piece of to cargo bay # 4 to be Analyzed”
“we need to know if what destroyed that vessel and will it pose any threat to us look for anything I want to know, regardless of how minor. you may think it is "
"Aye sir." Shultz replied.
"Bridge to Engineering" Matthew called.
[Ritalin here.] returned the Senior engineer on Duty .
"Look over the Piece of the vessel wreckage in cargo bay # 4 , and see if you can determine jus what kind of ship was it "
[I'm already looking at the scan data - I'll report once I know anything. Engineering out.]
“Matthew Sat Back in the center chair And tap his comm. Badge Bridge To Captain Cir’Kem “
“Cir’Kem ‘Here What Wrong Commander ‘
“Cmdr Matthew ‘Captain we have just pickup some Debris of a Vessel on the Dark side of the planet doing one of our standard Scan of the planet the Debris field was found but do the radiation Spikes from the Big Gas Giant the sensors have been having problem getting any clear reading
“ I move the Victory Close enough to scan the debris field I will have Those answers in the hour Captain “
“Cir’Kem “Commander can you tell if it’s a Large or small vessel “
“Cmdr Matthew at this time no Captain as I said before our sensors reading before ask more Question then gave any useful Answers ‘
“Cir’Kem ‘ok Commander Ill expect those answers soon Cir’Kem out’
“Cmdr Matthew Bring the Debris field up on The Main view screen flashed out and returned to an image of the Debris field .

As the away team moves to wards the energy field. Sharp moves farther down the cavern as he turns and hears Nack whisper loudly to him then a blue energy field appears and then Sharp finds himself in another cave and as soon as Sharp turns around the last thing he sees is a klingon before he falls to the ground after being hit on the head by a blunt object.
A few hours later Sharp wakes up in a cell wondering where he is

Following Commander Sharp's directions the away team materialised on the other side of the forcefield. The commander tried to explain what was going on but he seemed a bit confused. Tiana scanned him while doing a survey of their new surrounding and two things immediately became obvious.
Firstly the Commander had taken a heavy blow to the head and was definitely not himself; and secondly the away team were not alone down here. Tiana was picking up several other life signs that were wandering around in the immediate vicinity.
"I think we need to get undercover now," Tiana said making her voice as loud as she dared given the quiet of the cave and the increasing proximity of two of the life signs she was monitoring. "There's two people coming."

"As long as he can walk, I suggest we get behind that ledge over there." Tiana's scans concluded there was blunt trauma to Sharp's head. The Klingon story was not to be discounted, since they heard footsteps approaching.
"Two Klingons, sir," Tiana said in Nack's direction.
He hissed. "I thought we didn't have any readings?" He was seriously annoyed with this forcefield. Too many abnormalities that kept getting in the way with assumptions. Every time he would form a hypothesis on what the nature of the cave system was on their side of the forcefield, something would happen to change his reasoning. The facts were relatively few, but their dynamics were great in number.
"Everyone get back. Sharp and I will stand in front." Of course, for the small stature Ferengi, that didn't really provide much protection for Commander Galwyn standing immediately behind him. What was a Ferengi to do, though?
With the phasers raised, still in the shadows created by a natural duct in the cave, they watched as two Klingons approached. The one pulled a lever on the wall, and the other walked through. "He was right here. I came to get you so you could question him! See if you can find that Starfleet scum!" he yelled. "He must have found the lever and ran out of here. If he knows we are here, and can get to the surface, he'll alert the rest of his crew. Catch the pahtk before the magnesite above him allows transmissions." The other Klingon started jogging down the hall, illuminated by a phase torch. The first Klingon reactivated the forcefield and returned to the depths of the caves.
Once he rounded the corner, Nack stepped out from the cave shadows. The rest of the crew followed. "That was close!"
Sharp was relieved too. "You are lucky they think you are out there. But now we know we don't have much time to find what we think is down here and get out. That other Klingon will realize soon you are not out there." Nack felt faint. The coldness of the cave did not compliment his physiology. The dampness was what kept it bearable.
"Move out!" he yelled.

"As long as he can walk, I suggest we get behind that ledge over there." The FO said and all of them retreated inyo the shadows. Tiana kept her eyes on her tricorder, the readings she was looking at were, like all the others she had taken inside the forcefield, rather 'fuzzy' and unresolved. As she looked at the approaching lifesigns they gradually resolved into Klingons.
She informed the FO
He hissed. "I thought we didn't have any readings?" Tiana gave a dramatic shrug, she had told as much as she knew. It wasn't just the forcefield, the natural minerals were providing their own interference. These people had chosen a very good place to hide.
"Everyone get back. Sharp and I will stand in front." Tiana did as she was told and as the others raised phasers, Tiana remember that her weapon was still tuned to take down the forcefield. She pressed herself back to the wall, ensuring that her bag didn't bang into the rock, and dropped to one knee as she worked to reset her phaser.
"He was right here. I came to get you so you could question him! See if you can find that Starfleet scum!" One of the Klingon's yelled "He must have found the lever and ran out of here.
Nack was the first to leave the shadows "That was close!", he said. Tiana agreed she got to her feet and reholstered her phaser and then stepped forward into the light again.
The FO was speaking to Commander Sharp. Tiana drew her tricorder and started scanning again.
"Move out!" The FO yelled. Tiana believed that she had a relatively acurate map of this area and pointed the away team towards the largest cave. It was obvious that something was going on here.

Davis summoned her back to the bridge, and Nika closed her eyes for a moment in contemplation, before telling the Breen she'd stay in contact and returning to the bridge. “Report,” Nika asked.
“We've lost contact with the away team.”
“Gradually or all of a sudden?”
“Gradually.”
“It was expected, then. Was there anything else?” Nika asked
“We've found debris from some ship located on the other side of the planet, and are sending out what probes we can,” Commander Matthew informed her. “Requesting permission to move the Victory closer to investigate the debris field.”
“Permission granted. Keep me updated.”
It was ten minutes before Commander Matthew had more information for her. “We've just found some strange readings. The radiation appears to be interfering with a ship's cloak.”
“Cloak!?” Nika asked.
“Not a very good cloak,” the lieutenant commander covering for Tiana at science seemed to feel obliged to remark.
“Do you have any more information on the ship?”
“I'm working on it,” the science lieutenant said. Then, after a pause, he added, “It doesn't seem to be a Romulan or Klingon ship.”
Nika didn't ask what it was, though she did wonder. But she was content knowing that she would be told when the information was known.
“It looks more cobbled together out of old pieces than from any government.”
“Tactical analysis?”
“We could easily win in a fight, especially since the same radiation that is weakening their cloak is doing much the same to their sensors. They might not know we're here yet.”
“Hail them,” Nika ordered. It would give up any advantage of surprise, but she wasn't going to fire unprovoked.
A pause, then, “No response.”
“Send them the following message: This is the USS Victory-C to unknown ship, please respond. You are currently interfering in our mission for the recovery of Starfleet personnel.”
“They're responding.”
“Onscreen.”
A human, or humanoid, appeared on the screen. “Captain,” she said, in what was almost a growl. “We have legitimate business relations with Haptan Beta that you are currently interfering with.”
“I find that difficult to believe, since President Entya has been most helpful, and I don't see how he could have failed to mention your presence.” Nika didn't mention that she hadn't actually talked with the President, just a minister, because it didn't make any real difference. “I'll check though, just in case it slipped his mind.”
“That's not necessary.”
“Of course not,” Nika said, disdainfully sarcastic.
“Who is it, precisely, that we have that the Federation government wants back so badly?”
“The Federation government?” Nika asked. “I don't know that they care, except for the fact that Starfleet leaves no one behind.”
The smuggler took on a decidedly dramatic stance and let out a heavy sigh. “We were told we were transporting someone from their own free will. Now, however, you are implying something different. You understand that we had no part in this.”
“No, I don't. What I understand is that I want all my people back on my ship.”
“But of course, the transport to here has been quite expensive,” the smuggler continued. “And, even if you aren't the people we were supposed to deliver him to, we've still gone out of our way to fulfill our end of the bargain.”
Nika wasn't impressed. “You want pay?” she asked. “You're looking, far more likely, at charges of kidnapping, among other things.”
“That doesn't sound very reasonable,” the smuggler replied. Nika just raised an eyebrow, and turned to mouth something to the security ensign, who nodded and tapped his fingers across the console before returning to watching for a signal.
As expected, the smuggler ship started to power up its weapons, but the Victory had its shields up first. After the attempt from the smuggler ship, the Victory fired to disarm, and succeeded. “Transport the prisoners into the brig,” Nika ordered, “and keep a look out for other ships. We don't know when whoever they were planning to meet will show up.”
Nika herself passed the bridge back to Commander Matthew so she could head down to the brig to have a little chat with the people who had, at the least, played an important role in the kidnapping/removal of a Federation ambassador.

"Take the lead," Nack fell in line behind the science officer. She was on the ball this mission, and Nack would see to it that Captain Cir'kem heard about her excellent performance. All on her first away mission, at that!
Sharp followed closely behind, keeping a relatively low profile.
Nack's tricorder was out in attempt to take the same readings. His fingers were more nimble, his four lobed brain was faster, but the science officer was always a step ahead of him with the tricorder anyway. She was clearly at home with the device.
The cave widened to a cavern, about 30 meters in diameter, with a series of doors lining the outside every 10 meters or so. The doors were painted gray to match the color of the rock they were built into, although there was no attempt made to hide them.
"Well, you can guess what I'm going to ask." Nobody said anything, it was rhetorical. "Which door do we choose?" Nack said it anyway. Whatever it was, Nack was not about to split up. "Let's go through the rooms one by one," he checked the first door to see if it was locked, but it slid upward freely as he approached proving it wasn't. He motioned inward. "Here goes nothing."
Once inside, Galwyn continued her readings as Sharp stood guard. The room was well lit, filled with random items. Something immediately behind Nack, a cargo container, smelled of rotting flesh, but Nack was not about to take a look inside. Tiana had already confirmed it wasn't humanoid in nature... Good enough.
They moved on. The room was a storage facility of rare and valuable items. Bricks of latinum were stored along the back wall under a raw-hide of some sort.
"All clear," Nack yelled out as the last few scans were made. "Next room."

"Take the lead," The FO said, Tiana did so. She worked her way forward slowly twitching at any movement of the lifesigns on her tricorder screen. At least one was Human, and one either Vulcan or Romulan but with the distortions she was having trouble telling.
They walked into a fairly large cavern with two doors onward. None of the data Tiana had so far gather gave any indication of which way was best to choose. She gave a slight shrug in response to the FO's question and he want ahead and picked a door at random. The door slid upwards inviting them to head onwards to whatever lay beyond.
Tiana scanned the cavern as she entered it was the first well lit area they had encountered which made Tiana even more twitchy. There was a large cargo container against one wall from which a decidedly unpleasant smell was emanating. Her tricorder quickly told her it was nothing humanoid. The container's manifest suggested it contained Klingon appetisers and while that may be true Tiana didn't feel inclined to investigate further. They still had an ambassador to locate.
They moved on. The next room was a storage facility of rare and valuable items. Bricks of latinum were stored along the back wall under a raw-hide of some sort.
"All clear," The FO yelled as they finished surveying the room. "Next room."
The third room seemed to be a combination sickbay/storage facility. There was a rather battered biobed set up at one end of the cavern with a small seemingly federation computer bank and trolley beside it holding an array of medical instruments. The other part of the room was filled with racking and drawers containing a number of interesting compounds. Tiana doubted they were for medicinal use. The ones her tricorder could identify were banned by the federation and tended to have rather long-term and rather unpleasant side effects.
Tiana glanced back at the biobed a shiver ran down her spine as she wondered what else this area might be used for, interrogation. She voiced her thoughts to the rest of the team who probably didn't need the mental image but there it was.
Tiana shook herself and walked over to the computer. It was naturally on a Lock-out but it didn't take too long for Tiana to crack the encryption, they weren't intending to protect against outsiders after all.
The data didn't make a lot of sense to Tiana, she recognised the odd term here and there. "Commander," she called to the FO. "Could you have a look at this data. I think it's in some form of medical shorthand. It might tell us something useful."
Tag: Nack.
Tiana didn't like the expression on the FO's face. "Do I want to know what it says?" She asked although she knew that she would most likely have to find out anyway.

Nika ran her fingers over her uniform, straightening it and trying to mentally prepare herself for talking with the smugglers. She wasn't sure she could, but somehow the little reminders, like the uniform and the two security guards who nodded at her when she entered, that she was a Starfleet officer made her feel slightly less tense.
“Where is the man you kidnapped?” Nika asked. She didn't like not being able to refer to the ambassador by name, but she didn't want to let the smugglers figure out what his importance was to the Federation because of her.
“He's on our ship,” the smuggler, who had identified herself to the guards as Diane Russo, said.
“No, he's not.” She'd have sent over officers to scan every corridor and room with tricorders if she thought there was the slightest chance that he was over there. But the Victory's sensors could do a better job than personal tricorders, and they'd transported all lifesigns from the rather small smuggler ship to the Victory brig. And Ambassador Karzi hadn't been among the people recovered.
“He's on the planet.”
“That's a step in the right direction,” Nika said. “Did you kidnap him yourself?”
“I told you, we didn't kidnap him. The people who contracted for his transport said he was unconscious because of a medical condition. If we'd suspected anything was not above ground we would have contacted the relevant authorities immediately.”
“I don't believe that.” Nika managed to keep most of the anger out of her voice, but did they really think she was a complete idiot? Russo had fired on the Victory. There wasn't a part of that which was alright with Nika. “Who contacted you about taking him on?”
“I didn't ask their names.”
“Human?”
“Looked it.”
“Did you speak to them directly?”
“No, just over the viewscreen.”
“Of the ship you have now?”
“Yes.”
Nika nodded slightly to herself. At least one thing was going acceptably today. With any luck, the ship would automatically log recordings, and the smugglers wouldn't have thought to delete the recording. Then science would analyze it to see if they could find out any clues about the people who had contacted the smugglers. With any luck. “Do you remember anything about your contacts?”
Nika didn't really learn anything new from the conversation, just confirmed a few things that were already known, like where the two ships had rendezvoused, without actually saying anything useful. After the conversation, Nika returned to the bridge to construct a link between the Victory and the smuggler's ship. At some point some people would need to actually go over to the smuggler ship, and Nika knew she couldn't be among them. She'd taken a few more risks than either Nack or Starfleet regulations were comfortable with already, and she supposed she shouldn't take them when she didn't have to.
And since half of her senior staff was already both off the ship and out of contact, Nika wasn't about to send all the remaining ones off as well. But nor did she feel sending an away team without senior staff or waiting for Nack and the others to return was an option. “Lt. Commander O'Hara,” she said. “How long would it take you to disconnect the ship core of the smuggler ship so it could be read by Victory computers?”
“Do you want it to be able to be reconnected?”
“Optimally, yes, but you don't need to worry about keeping things neat so that'll be easier—it can take a while to reconnect.”
“Then about twenty minutes.”
Nika nodded. That seemed within acceptable limits, and the Victory was right up against the smuggler ship now, so the risk was not unreasonable. </\>Nika to security, do you have two available officers you can send to transporter room 2?</\>
A pause, then, </\>Yes Sir.</\>
</\>Thank you.</\>
</\>Nika to transporter room 2, please transport O'Hara and the two security officers over to the smuggler ship. Monitor their lifesigns constantly and if there are any changes in either the lifesigns for the signal strength, then transport them back to the Victory immediately.</\>
</\>Understood.</\>
“Sir, it'll potentially take much longer that way. If necessary, I can just request transport,” the science officer said.
“That's not acceptable,” Nika said. “I'm taking as few chances with your life as I can. And if time is an issue, then perhaps you should be heading down to the transporter room. Keep an open comm channel the entire time.”
O'Hara paused for a moment, then just nodded and left the bridge. Nika walked over to her seat, so she could better monitor readings and not pace. Making the bridge crew more nervous than they already were seemed like a bad idea.
No one had heard anything from Nack and his team in a while, longer than would have been expected, and Nika was starting to wonder if sending people after them might be in the works.

Nack had the most serious look Tiana had ever witnessed written across his face. "It means... Fragile...." He broke out in a smile. "Sorry, I don't think it means what you thought."
Tiana's skin-tone flushed a bit. It was cute, and it was the response that Nack had intended. He read below the shorthand, and realizing it may appear that he was crying wolf, he made Commander Galwyn verify the findings.
[Live Organs. Keep Away From Extreme Heat]
That thought was a bit more chilling. "That explains the fragility. What are organs doing in a refrigerated container like this?"
An explanation came from an unlikely source. A Klingon standing before them, holding a red-shirted security officer in a hostage stance, answered, "They have a very high retail value on the black market, I'm afraid." He looked up and down the ensign officer he was holding. "He appears healthy." With a complete disregard for life, he shot the phaser into the ensign's neck, causing him to immediately collapse.
Everyone looked away, everyone except Nack. He couldn't understand if he were mad, angry, upset... scared...
"Big ears," he pointed at Nack, "Come here."
Nack reluctantly went forward, starting his usual series of jumble as he did so, "You wouldn't want my organs... I had the flu when I was younger, pretty much turned them to mush.. I'm lucky to be alive... probably on my last foot as it is."
A slap across the face ended the monologue.
"We do not want your inferior organs. We want your Captain. We hear she has some... interesting.. anatomical features." Had the captain been anyone else, the statement may have been taken completely the wrong way. But the glowing eyes, and the unique physiology, was something everyone in the crew was aware of. The statement passed without obscenity.
"Who told you that?" Nack asked, knowing the answer, but asking anyway. It was clear the ambassador was in their hands. Or, at least the ambassador was in their hands.
"You!" he pointed to Tiana. "Take these and lock up your other officers." He threw a heavy chain, almost uncatchably, to the science officer. There were more where it came from, and the locking mechanism was large and clear.
"Hurry up!" he barked at her, taking his aggression out on Nack as he did so. The second slap to the face sent him flying in her direction, and she locked him first.
"When you are finished, we will all go for a little walk." He snickered as another Klingon joined him, whispering something into his ear.

"It means... Fragile...." He broke out in a smile. "Sorry, I don't think it means what you thought." The FO said. Tiana flushed with relief at the words.
[Live Organs. Keep Away From Extreme Heat] They read. Tiana's skin tone abruptly returned to normal. That message wasn't exactly reassuring. She tapped her tricorder with her palm a couple of times. The screen flickered, whatever was disrupting their readings down here was getting worse.
Tiana froze in the act of looking away she hoped desperately that young man was still alive. She had to she knew she couldn't give up and she wasn't going to cry. Not now.
"Big ears," The Klingon beckoned to Nack. "Come here."
"You wouldn't want my organs... I had the flu when I was younger, pretty much turned them to mush.. I'm lucky to be alive... probably on my last foot as it is."
Tiana winced as the Klingon backhanded Nack across the face. She hunched up and tried to blend into the background.
"We do not want your inferior organs. We want your Captain. We hear she has some... interesting.. anatomical features." Tiana winced again remembering that she had said something very similar earlier in the mission. Where had their information come from?
"Who told you that?" Nack asked. It was the question they all wanted to ask. It did not bode well for the ambassador if he had fallen into their hands.
"You!" The Klingon pointed to Tiana. "Take these and lock up your other officers." Tiana blanched as her threw a heavy chain in her direction. With visibly shaking hands she sort half caught it and and then fumbled returning the tricorder to her bag so she was free to handle the chain with two hands. The Klingon was laughing at her expense but he clearly wasn't happy.
"Hurry up!" he barked at her, taking his aggression out on Nack as he did so. One particularly brutal slap in the face sent Nack staggering in Tiana's direction. She caught him but they both moved further back into a slight shadow. Tiana knelt down and did as ordered. She wasn't going to take some sort of crazy risk now.
"When you are finished, we will all go for a little walk." Their guard said, he snickered as another Klingon joined him, whispering something into his ear. Tiana took advantage of his slight distraction and slipped her laser sample cutter into Nack's hand as she did so. She muttered the identity of the object as she checked the lock. She could barely hear her words so surely only the Ferengi would be able to.
Tiana got her feet and winced again holding her stomach where Nack's elbow had impacted. She dutifully collected the next chain and went to the CTSO, she was doing as bad a job as she thought she could get away with and playing up how scared she was. The latter wasn't too difficult as she really was scared.
When she had finished the first Klingon grabbed her by the arm jammed his phaser into her ribs and indicating the other officers to go first marched them all along a passageway into another room. The part of Tiana's mind that wasn't frozen with fear wondered why she had been picked out, she thought she had possibly been mistaken for a medic. That might explain why they hadn't taken her kit off her so far. She rubbed her bruises again as she stumbled along trying to keep up with the strides of the much taller (and probably trigger happy) Klingon.
The cave at the end of the corridor had another passage way leading out and a sort of sub-cave cut in the one wall. The sub cave was fenced off with solid metal bars making a pretty secure cell. The disarmed away team were prodded, poked, shoved and thrown into the cell. Nack again getting the worst of it. However the mistreatment did not seem to have dulled his spirits any.
The second Klingon took Tiana's bag and phaser off her dumping them with the other confiscated objects on the other side of the cave. He was prodding Tiana towards the door when the first Klingon stopped him with a laugh that didn't reassure Tiana at all. "Spots here will be an added bonus." With that Tiana was dragged away. She heard the clang of the cell door closing but the sound was dim as she came to a very uncomfortable realisation about what a set of organ smugglers might want a Trill for.

OOC: just as a note to all I am not allowing Russell to be promoted to Commander in character he will remain a Lt Commander, sorry for any confusion this may cause I hope to update his sig line to show this soon IC: As Russell settled down for a review of evaluations previous done Russell heard the Padd he had used to keep his books from sliding buzz. Slowly lifting himself from his seat Russell hoped it was either Tiana or something very important. As Russell picked up the Padd he noted who had sent it and began to think all of his remaining free time was just about to go out the window. TO: SHIP'S COUNSELOR -Cmdr Russell Davis MS, PhD
FROM: CHIEF SHIP OPERATIONS- Cmdr James Matthew
SUBJET: Ship Crewmembers unfit for Duty
“Good Morning Russ I see By your Daily Schedule you have a full Day planned so I wont waste any of your Valuable time “
‘Well Do to a Shortage of Ship personal on the Victory I need all able officers & crew on board To keep all Department manned and fully operational and the lost of any officer or crewman can make that hard to do so before I can officially remove them from the Active Duty Schedule I just needed some more information on them counselor “
“you Listed them as un-fit for duty because of a emotional disorders or Psychological conditions They all suffered while on a Away mission doing there Last posting on the “ USS Montreal “ but you didn’t list just what that emotional disorders was in There Service record’s’
“ first up is Lt, Brian Dania is listed with a unspecified Psychological disorders He suffered on his last Assignment before coming on board the victory and Senior Crewman Julia Phelps and Walter Mays both listed with emotional disorders can you give me a little more detail on all of them Russ. Russell looked at the list a moment before moving back to his desk, taking his seat Russell brought up the named officers medical files. reading though he knew why he had not been placed on the service records, it had been during a day that he was a bit over worked and must not have updated the records. Grabbing the Padd he began noting down things that Commander Matthew needed to know. TO: CHIEF SHIP OPERATIONS – Cmdr James Matthew
FROM: SHIP’S COUNSELOR – Lt Cmdr Russell Davis MS, PhD
SUBJECT: Ship Crewmembers unfit for Duty
I do apologise for not releasing what information is needed to their service records. Here is an up to date status on each person you listed.
Lieutenant Brian Dania, I am afraid the exact Psychological disorder is not available to you by star fleet medical regulations, but his condition has worsened since that report. His judgement has become impaired and his is quick to anger. Because of this I have recommended him to be removed form duty until we return to star base where a second opinion can be sort.
Julia Phelps, she has been coming to me a lot lately with issues suggesting depression, under normal circumstance I would take her off duty to allow her to relax, but she is not a danger to herself or others so I will leave it up to you if she is desperately needed then I will allow her back on under the condition that she sees me after each work shift.
Walter Mays, his emotional state has been unstable since the loss of his 2 year old son 3 months ago, he requested to be taken from the active duty roster via my predecessor and I have been seeing him periodically since my arrival. As of my session with him today I am happy enough to return him to active duty once I have his confirm.
I hope this clears things up
Russell As Russell sent the message he updated the service records before preparing the next person on the list ‘this could be a long day’.

Nack assumed the worst when they led Galwyn away. One crew member was already dead, and now Tiana was probably going to be led to the same fate. There was no time to think about that at this juncture, nor was it productive.
"Where is your ship?"
Nack answered, "Commander Nack, Federation Starship USS Victory, registrati..." *Slap* bloodied saliva flew from his mouth as the unexpected blow knocked one of his jagged teeth loose.
"Do not give me any of that federation hostage babble, slimy toad. Tell me where your ship is!" he grew angrier. Nack, Sharp, and the other security guard were in the cell, but they were only concerned with Nack. Nack didn't answer, but instead asked a question.
"Where did you take her?"
"Who!? The trill?" he laughed, "the same place we took your security officer back there! The extraction room- which is where you will go if you do not speak." A sparked baton appeared. Nack had never had the pleasure of being acquainted with one, but he could tell that avoiding it at all costs would be prudent.
"The ship is in orbit. I don't know any more than that!" He hadn't really violated any protocol. He was sure that the smugglers would know if it was in orbit.
The first shock of the baton hit Nack in the side. The other two in the holding cell winced as Nack collapsed in pain, arms flailing the best they could in the chains they were bonded with. He fell to the floor hard. He lay there with his eyes closed and took a few deep breaths before opening them. He looked up at the Klingon, who was now standing over him.
"I told you, I do not know the exact location!"
The klingon wound up for a kick to Nack's bulbous head, but was interrupted by the sound of yelling. He turned to exit the cell to attend to the commotion. Phaser fire was heard, and both the Klingon shouts and Tiana's screams ceased. The Klingon reactivated the forcefield surrounding the bars, and went to see what happened.
Nack and the two security officers were left alone, wondering what happened. "Commander... Sharp..." Nack said, trying to grab his breath. "Do what you can to get us out of here... if you can... do.. anything..." His hand slipped as he was picking himself up. He lost his balance and fell to the floor again. Instead of getting up right away, he laid there, waiting to get his energy back.
One security guard tended to Nack as Commander Sharp hypothesized their escape... if it was even possible.

Tiana was dragged down the passageway, it wasn't that she was attempting to resist the Klingon holding her in was more that he was a lot taller that her and walking at a pace she couldn't keep without running and his grip on her arm was keeping her off balance and unable to run.
The cave they arrived in was also set out as some sort of sickbay. The only other person present was a Vulcanoid who looked up as Tiana and her captor walked in. The lopsided smirk suggested that the man was Romulan rather than Vulcan but Tiana wasn't in a mood to make such judgments.
The Klingon grinned and forcibly tipped Tiana's head to one side showing the other the line of spots that ran down the side of her face.
"Greetings, I am Dr Valshar." He smiled in a way that made Tiana shiver. "We just want something you've got." He reached towards her with a hypospray.
"I'm not joined." Tiana said She was amazed at how flat her voice sounded. Valshar paused mid motion and stared at the Klingon still holding Tiana.
"She's lying," he said. Valshar picked up a scanner and ran it across Tiana's mid-section. Tiana knew there was nothing for him to find but still felt twitchy. Valshar apparently wasn't convinced one way or the other and guested for the Klingon to put Tiana up on to the biobed. The Klingon did so muttering the whole time. He seemed to like Valshar almost as much as Tiana did.
Valshar was soon convinced that Tiana was telling the truth. There were some muttered and not so muttered comments exchanged between them to the effect that each thought the other was incompetent.
Valashar leaned towards her with a hypospary again. He then staggered backwards before the device touched her. Apparently the Klingon wasn't done with the argument. Tiana was forced to watch as the two fought. Knives were soon drawn and various heavy and/or sharp objects were thrown. Tiana couldn't hold back a scream or two when various things landed a little too close to her head still both of them had apparently forgotten her existence.
The Romulan seemed to be winning, the Klingon was bleeding and seemingly only semi-conscious. Then the other Klingon arrived. Valshar promptly tried to continue his work on the injured Klingon. The newcomer threw some heavy at Valshar, which clipped him and ended up smashing into the wall near Tiana, she screamed again and then noted worriedly that a small stream of dust had started to fall from the ceiling. The standing Klingon turned and fired a phaser at the semi-conscious Valshar and then turned and pointed the weapon at Tiana. She could only hope it was on stun as the beam lanced out towards her.

"Great!" Nack complimented Sharp. "I didn't think to use our combadges that way." Apparently, neither did the Klingon that had locked them in the cell. Nack limped a bit as he helped Sharp and the other officer out of the cell. "I completely forgot that these had phase modulators." The modulators, of course, allowed for transmission through subspace. Modified, they were capable of taking an ordinary object out of phase with the current universe, practically removing it from existence. Since the power levels of a single combadge were small, they had combined all three. It was large enough to dephase a complete bar, leaving enough room for everyone to squeeze through.
"Are you alright?" Sharp asked his First Officer. Nack was looking pretty bad by now.
"I'll be fine. We need to find Galwyn. Hopefully her silence isn't indicative of what I think it could mean." Nack never had any finesse in his statements. Why have any now?
Let's get to the room with the medical equipment.. I think it was the second room we saw.
They felt along the dark wall, in search for their lost Science Officer.
Huffing as he propped her up against the wall, he checked the readings of the latest scan on the medical tricorder. "She's worthless." he huffed. He should have had the phaser set to kill instead of stun. Trill organs were common. Symbionts were not. The market value was astounding, but even more so, it would be a great bargaining chip for the Captain of the Victory. They had the ambassador, but apparently that had not lured her to the inner depths of their laboratory. Instead, a useless Ferengi and his compatriots came on the search. Unacceptable. Now, what to do with them? The thought crossed his mind as Tiana started stirring.
"I think this was it." Nack said as he reached the door with familiar markings. Sharp proceeded to bust in, finding dead bodies, Tiana, and a Klingon diving for his phaser.

“How long ago was the transport destroyed?” Nika asked Commander Matthew.
As she was receiving an answer, she was contacted by transporter room 2, who let her know that Lt. Commander O'Hara was back on the Victory, and would be setting up the computer core in isolation to see what he could determine from it. “Check where the last transportation was to first,” Nika requested.
It was a few tense minutes of waiting before O'Hara had convinced the smuggler ship core to give up the information. Now the question was quite what to do with it. For all she knew, they could be handling everything fine, but the lack of communication and known presence of hostiles made for a worrying situation.
“Keep looking for anything that might be useful,” Nika said, the words a sure sign that she was nervous.
“Yes sir,” O'Hara replied.
Nika was wondering if she should try to find someone in engineering who could help O'Hara when he contacted her with more information.
“The smuggler ship appears to have been using a carrier signal to communicate with their people on the surface,” O'Hara said.
“Is there any way we can use it?” Nika asked.
“There is, but it requires giving the smuggler ship core some access to our communication system. I can contain it as much as possible, but there's still going to be some risk.”
“Do it,” Nika decided. She already trusted that O'Hara would keep the ship safe, and it'd been too long since she'd heard from Nack. He would have found a way to contact her, unless something had gone wrong.
The next update said that communications were working successfully, and Nika was invited to contact the away team herself, an offer which she took up. </\>This is Captain Cir'Kem to all away team members, please respond.</\>

Tiana started waking up. Her first realisation was that her head her head hurt, her second was that she was now in a vertical position she hoped that meant the rest of the away team had found her. She cracked her eyes open and found that the face staring towards her was Klingon. That wasn't good. She closed her eyes again and hovered on the verge
"She's worthless."he huffed barely loud enough for Tiana to understand, but understand she did. She had been puzzled when the other Klingon had been so sure she was joined during the 'argument' that he had information that said she was joined and now things looked even worse. Of course if she died now then she's never get to that dinner with Russell, a pair of lovely brown eyes hovered in her imagination as she thought of him.
At that moment there was a noise and Tiana finally shook off the lingering affects of the stun. She looked up as the door burst open to reveal Commander Sharp with phaser in hand. The Klingon was all ready reaching for his weapon but the Commander was too fast and the Klingon dropped. Tiana struggled to her feet, still leaning against the wall. She tried to speak, found her throat to speak and then coughed as the rest of the away team appeared. The FO had a few new bruises but no one looked too badly off for their recent capture.
"Thanks for the rescue. They seemed to have information that said I was joined and they were after the symbiont. I'm not joined," she added for those who didn't know. "And when they found out things got a little heated." Tiana pointed to the Romulan who was still slumped in the corner of the room. "May I introduce Doctor Valshar." She gave sudden laugh that was about equal parts nervous tension and relief. "he was supposed to be conducting the surgery."
"I don't suppose you got my kit bag did you?" She knew it was a completely irrelevant question but she also knew she wasn't quite with it at the moment. She was very pleased when the other security officer handed her the bag. Tiana slung it over her shoulder more for reassurance than anything else.
</\>This is Captain Cir'Kem to all away team members, please respond.</\>
The Captain's voice was crackly but recognisable. It wasn't coming from their comm badges but from a speaker on one of the pieces of equipment in the room.
Tiana hurried to it and started trying the clear up the signal. It did not take her long to get most of her normal bounce back now she had a problem to work on.
</\>This is Commander Galwyn. We read you Captain. We ran in to some problems</\> That was an understatement. </\>We seem to be on top of things now.</\> Tiana found herself gently nudged out of the way by Commander Nack. She sat down as a wave of dizziness washed over her, all too willing to let someone who as far as she was aware hadn't recently been unconscious explain things.

The conversation continued with the First Officer addressing his Captain. =/\= We are ok... those of us that are left... =/\= He explained the situation, the slain officer, the research facility. =/\= They really wanted you it seems. Unique physiology seems translate into higher profit margins =/\=

"Let's head out..." he checked the pulse of the two Klingons and the Romulan. All were dead. "We'll contact the planet's government body, and let them clean up this mess. I'm sure they'll be interested in investigating this."
As they were walking out, a muffled noise could be heard behind one of the cave doors.
"Sharp, careful." Nack said. The group went into silent mode as Nack put his index finger to his mouth motioning for silence. Sharp had his phaser ready as he pulled open the door.
A bound figure fell out. "Mmmm!Mmmm!" came from the Ambassador.
Tiana unbound the man, knowing immediately his identity.

Tiana leaned again the wall waiting for her head to stop spinning while the Captain and the FO talked. As the communication ended she took a deep breath and stood up relieved that the world didn't spin.
"Let's head out..." The FO checked the two Klingons and the Romulan. It seemed all of them were dead. Tiana wasn't exactly sorry. "We'll contact the planet's government body, and let them clean up this mess. I'm sure they'll be interested in investigating this."She nodded in response.
"I imagine they aren't the only ones. This lot were getting their information from somewhere." This worried her, it seemed their list of joined (or soon-to-be-joined) Trill was a little out dated but the Symbiosis Commission would have to be told that the information had got out and that was something she didn't want to do. They'd only try to talk her in to going back on the list (if they had actually removed her name in the first place).
As they were walking out, a muffled noise could be heard behind one of the cave doors.
"Sharp, careful." The FO said. Tiana in her position in the middle of the bunch froze into silence. As he opened the door a bound and gaged figure fell out.
Tiana recognised Ambassador Karzi instantly she had spent hours poring over computer screens searching for his face after all. She undid his bindings and he stood up slowly stretch out cramped limbs. He didn't seem to badly off after his ordeal. The away team introduced themselves and Commander Nack quickly checked him over finding that other than a little dehydration the ambassador was fine and was for the most part silent as they continued on.
The five of them worked there way back to the forcefield that shielded the lair from the rest of the cave system. No one had seen how the smugglers left their hide-out so Tiana was forced back to the brute force method of retuning her phaser to take the force field down.
With a hiss and crackle the blue field died away. With a slightly contented smile, pleased that at least one thing today had worked out, Tiana walked forwards. She wanted to get back to the Victory and leave this place behind. The rest of the away team followed her. It did not take the group long to reach the cave where they had beamed in. The group gathered and Nack was reaching for his comm badge to order their beam-out when Tiana thought she saw movement in one of the shadows. She whirled her phaser still in hand from bringing down the forcefield. She did not really have time to register what was going on when a disruptor beam lanced past her. without thinking she fired her phaser. Commander Sharp was less than a second behind her but then he had had to move to get a clear shot.
There was no second shot. Tiana's tricoder registered the unconscious victim as being human and the only other lifeform in the area. It also matched his DNA with some detected inside the forcefield. It was a slim comfort.
Commander Sharp, seemingly pleased with the idea of a prisoner as well as the recovered ambassador gathered the man up and bound his hands. As the CTSO dragged the unconscious prisoner back to the group Tiana noticed the burning on his chest and then realised that she hadn't retuned her phaser after taking down the forcefield.
Her stomach flipped as the group regathered to return to the Victory.
