Steve woke in his quarters at 10:00 am. He had chosen to use his quarters on the Raven rather than use the ones on the Starbase. He turned over and saw his new wife lying next to him. Arya looked very peaceful just laying there, so he got up out of bed as quickly and quietly as he could so as not to disturb her.
He got dressed and strolled over to his desk. He ordered a tea from the replicator and sat down to check to see if he had recieved any messages. All he had was one from Starfleet Command. He read it right away....it looked like the Raven was to be sent on a new mission. He read to the end, and almost spilt his tea all over his desk in surprise.
"I don't believe it." He whispered, "Of all the places...."
He turned towards Arya, who was just moving on the bed. She looked up and opened her eyes.....

Arya had a wonderful evening, and was dreaming about when she and Steven had met, when suddenly she woke in the middle of it. Arya was startled a little at first not remembering where she was, and then realized whose quarters she was in. A smile came to her face as she looked over to his desk when she realized she was in bed alone. She noticed how he looked at walked over to him.
"What is going on dear?" She asked, then saw the orders herself.
"I don't believe it!" she cried out, shocked more than anything. She sat down in his lap and leaned against him, thinking she couldn't stand much longer.
"How do you think the crew is going to take this assignment?" She asked looking up at him. The shock started to wear off for her, and she noticed he barely noticed she was there. She kissed him on the cheek, and got up getting a shower in.
After her shower she found him still seated at his desk working on something deep in thought. Arya didn't bother him, and walked over to the kitchen area of, what was now, their quarters.
Arya whipped up some eggs, bacon, and toast putting it on the table when it was ready. She walked over to the desk and kissed him.
"Good morning, breakfast is ready," she said and smiled.

Carl had woken early.. He was going to the bridge to to make sure the base's technicians were on schedule with the work they were doing up there, and the Raven would be ready to leave as and when the Captain received his orders. He decided to eat breakfast in his quarters before leaving .. Going over to the replicator he ordered toast, orange juice, and white coffee. A few seconds later he was sat at his desk with his meal. While eating, Carl checked for any pending orders or personal messages. No outstanding orders but he did have a few messages .. One was from the Ensign he had met on his arrival. She would be in Ten forward at thirteen thirty for lunch. He was more than welcome to join them as it may be a good opportunity to meet one or two more of the crew. 'Sounds good.' he thought. The other notes were from departments requiring him to sign-off on work that had been carried out. Nothing urgent as no orders for the Raven to depart Space dock had been issued yet .. As far as Torek knew that is. Placing his plate, glass, and utensils back on the replicator, he activated the retrieve mode and headed for the door and the turbo lift ... As the doors opened and Carl stepped inside, he saw he wasn't the only occupant. "Good morning Ensign." Said E'liana BeTor. "Morning Doctor .. Are you heading for the bridge ?" "No ..." E'liana replied, then raising an eyebrow, "Neither will you be unless you state a destination." she said grinning. "Bridge." he requested. Though he couldn't be absolutely sure .. Torek was convinced that the Doctor was amused at his indecision .. but he was not about to turn to see .. the lift halted at E'liana's stop and the Doctor began to leave. "No doubt we will be seeing each other again Ensign .. Good-day." "Good-day Doctor." said Carl, grateful for the doors closing so the Doctor wouldn't see him blushing .......... Matt was dead tired as he reached his soft warm bed. He hadn't exerted himself physically, but todays duties and activities just seemed to drain all the strenght from his body. He officially started his job as executive officer and made it a point to visit every department on the ship, which included minor departments such as transporter, astrometrics, and other local departments. After finishing his inspection which took a few hours longer than he wanted, he finally attended to the duty roster.
He had always joked that it was the easiest job, but boy was wrong. He had to take into account family responsiblities, religious procedures, and private personal problems. He hadn't met most of them, but he still had to what was best for them.
Matt's tiredness was so obvious that Caleb didn't even bother him, which he was extremely grateful for. Caleb was always a handful and pretty soon Matt wouldn't be able to spend as much tiem with him as he wanted. He had already sent E'Liana a message asking her if it was alright for Caleb to play with her cousin. Yes she was only two, but she was bigger than Caleb. Matt didn't think Caleb was afraid of the young Klingon, so hopefully they would be able to become friends.
"Computer, please wake me up at 0600 hours," Matt said and slept.

With a yawn and a stretch Zoarial sat upright in his bed. The 'important duties' he had mentioned earlier to Caleb meant that he was going to take a long long nap, and he had crashed upon arival in his quarters the previous evening.
He opened his eyes and noticed that he hadn't even bothered to undress before falling asleep and with a grunt he changed into a fresh uniform. When Zoarial looked on his watch he saw to his surprise that it was already past noon. He attached his commbadge to his uniform and headed for the turbolift.
While waiting for it to come he grinned slightly and opened a channel to sickbay. =^=Commander Zoarial to Doctor Be'Tor=^= he said, while keeping a straight face. =^=Meet me in the mess hall at 12.45. It's urgent=^=
<<E'Liana>>
=^=I don't have time to explain right now Commander.=^= Zoarial answered =^=Just hurry up. Commander Zoarial out.=^=
When he arrived at the messhall he found E'Liana already there, she had taken his message very serious and was looking kind of worried.
"What's wrong Zoarial?" she asked to the Klingon who looked back in an equally worried kind of way.
"Well... BREAKFAST!" Zoarial said and he suddenly smiled broadly. "I thought you'd like to have some with me."
And with a small wink he turned and got them a table.

Steve shook his head softly, and turned towards Arya. "Oh, thank you honey. Good morning to you too." He smiled and briefly turned back to the screen. "Im sorry, I got a bit engrossed there. In answer to your question, I dont think the crew will react badly to the assignment as a whole, just the initial part of it....thats where I can foresee that we are going to hit resistance!"
He got and up and kissed Arya on the cheek. "Hold on a second, I'll be back." He said, and he went to freshen up. Moments later, Steve came back and re-took his seat. "Are you going to join me?" He asked. "You know, I could get used to this." He added, smiling. "All of this....So, how does it feel?"

Arya smiled and waited for him to return. She made sure breakfast wasn't getting cold, and turned to find him there. Steve went to his seat, and asked if she was going to join.
"Of course I am, don't be silly. I am hungry too," she said and winked taking her seat. She heard him and with a twinkle in her eye, "Get used to what, I haven't a clue what you are talking about," she said, and he looked over at her a twinkle in his own eye.
"You know what I am talking about," he said smiling.
"Yes, but it is so much more fun to tease you," she said as she cut into her food. He continued to look at her waiting for an answer.
"This feels really good, and the food is good too. I think I might like learning to cook," she said as she continued to eat.
A bit later she left her quarters, but not before getting a kiss goodbye, heading for her office. She figured she had her work cut out for her now that she knew what was going on. Arya was surprised to find the new first officer waiting for her at her door.
"May I help you, commander?" she said as she motioned for him to join her in her office.

Steve returned Arya's smile. "Yes, the food is good." He replied, before finishing it off. "You'll have to do it more often, if you like it so much." Standing up, Steve turned the screen off and gave Arya a kiss.
"You know, part of me still doesn't feel right being in these quarters." He said to himself, but also loud enough for Arya to hear if she was listening.
Steve let Arya get ready and then gave her another kiss as she headed out to her office. 'I guess it's time I did some work too!' he thought.
He tapped his commbadge, =/\= All senior staff, this is the.....Captain. =/\= Steve had trouble saying that last word, he doubted he would get used to it any time soon. =/\= I will be holding a meeting in the briefing room in one hour. Do not be late. Smith out. =/\=
With the announcement out of the way, he headed up to the bridge for a while to check over things.

Carl stepped onto the bridge ..
Due to the Raven being in Space dock and it being so early in the morning, there were no other senior staff here at the moment. He sat at the Comms station and began double-checking systems in readiness for the ship's departure from Starbase Bellicose. Seeing no major issues, he decided to answer some of the messages he'd seen at breakfast ..
In the next hour he got through quite a lot. There was nothing he would have to take to Commander Reynolds .. 'That's a good thing' he thought.
One message informed him of a delay in delivery of replacement torpedoes .. He would wait on contacting the base armory, besides, Commander Majeski would have received the same message, if the issue continued, he was sure the commander would address it. Torek was certain the Raven wasn't about to leave Space dock without them, that was for sure..
Everyone on the bridge at the moment seemed to have plenty to do, so Carl decided to visit one or two departments personally, get acquainted with people there. Waiting for the turbo lift, he noticed slight interference on the view screen, he would look into that later.
The lift arrived. Entering, Carl stated his destination ..........

The corridor was dark and had the putrid smell of burning flesh. The only light was from a flickering light down the hall. Matt was running towards that light, but he never seemed to get any closer. Matt was running because he was being chased, chased by Romulans. If they caught up to him he knew that he was a dead man, but his body kept on slowing down. After a minute or so, Matt's body refused to move and he stood frozen for his enemies to reach him.
"I told you that I was going to kill you," the Reman said before he shot his phaser. Matt woke with a start, the uniform that he had fallen asleep in was now drenched in sweat. It had been the exact same dream he had been having for months now. The same dream that preoccupied his thoughts and mind.
"Computer time," Matt said knowing the he would no longer go to sleep.
"0534 hours."
Matt couldn't help but grunt at the response. He had only gotten six hours of sleep. On a normal day that would be enough, but Matt knew that today would also be a very hard day. As Matt got ready he mulled over the dream again. He had promised Caleb that he would seek help, but Matt had always put that off. His dreams have not interrupted his responsibilities, but he knew that they could. On the Jefferson, Matt was not comfortable talking to the counselor and Matt didn't know if he would be comfortable around the Raven's.
His decision had been made, but Matt was looking for any excuse to get away. He had informed Caleb that he was going to talk to Commander Eowyn, but he was now regretting that decision. Matt asked the computer for the time and told himself that he was expected on the bridge.
"May I help you, commander?" she said as she motioned for him to join her in her office.
Matt hesitated, he was not sure about this, but he knew that in the end it would be best for him. "Good morning Commander," Matt said politely as he joined her in her office.
=/\= All senior staff, this is the.....Captain. =/\==/\= I will be holding a meeting in the briefing room in one hour. Do not be late. Smith out. =/\=
They both heard the Captain's announcement, but she had motioned that there was no real hurry. An hour would give them plenty of time.
"So Commander what can I for you?" Commander Eowyn asked.
"This is confidential right?" Matt asked worried that she would have to divulge this to the captain, who just happened to be her husband.

OOC: JP with Matt Reynolds.
IC:
Arya heard the message, but sat down behind her desk looking things over. Once she was done she walked over to the replicator.
"Would you care for something to eat or drink?" She said looking back toward the commander.
"Um... Ruby pineapple tea with ice," Matt said as he sat down. She got both his and her drinks, and walked over handing him his. She then took a seat next to him sipping her warm drink.
"Sorry, I just got in, had to take care of that. Okay, now down to why you decided to visit me. As for my husband, well you don't have to worry. I wouldn't tell him about anything between me and someone in a session. I am here to help you, not blab your secrets to the crew. What you say in this room, between us, stays here. I will make a note of it in your record if necessary, but other than that it can be left here. If you don't wish it in your record, then I won't do anything of the sort. Is there something you need my assistance with?" She said hoping he would trust her.
“That’s good to know,” Matt said as he shifted in the chair a bit more comfortably now. "The reason I’m here is because for the last couple of months I’ve been having horrible nightmares and I don’t know how to get rid of them.”
"If you don't mind, please tell me what this dream is, the better I know what is going on, the better I will be able to help you get rid of them," she said as she sat back a little with her drink.
“Well in my dreams I’m running around the corridors of the Jefferson,” Matt started,” it’s always dark and it always smells like burning flesh. I’m always running towards something, but I can never reach my destination. I’m running from a party of Romulans and Remans. I can never get away from them and in the end a Reman shoots me with his phaser and then I wake up.” Matt knew who the Reman was, he had always known. It had been the one who had almost killed him so many months ago.
"Do you think this is something that might happen to you one day, and your fears of it happening are what is troubling you?" She asked wanting to understand more about this matter.
“It’s happened to me already, Commander,” Matt snapped,” I’m afraid that it will happen again. Look this might have been a bad idea, I think it best if I leave.”
"No, this was a good idea, please don't leave. I had no clue it happened, but that information helps. I hadn't gotten to fully reading your record yet, and that must be in the part I haven't read. I would like to help you, but that means you would have to stay. Please, let me try," Arya said sitting forward a bit again placing her mug down on the coffee table in front of them.
Matt really wanted to leave, he was forcing his body to move, but it didn’t listen. His subconscious wanted this problem resolved. He took a deep breath, sighed and continued.
“While I was on the Jefferson we encountered a faction of the Romulan Empire,” Matt said starting to explain how this began,” the Reman took control of the ship and took us hostage. I was stupid enough to not back down and one of them shot me in my stomach. If it wasn’t for the doctor’s on the ship I would have died. I don’t know what happened to the Reman, hopefully he’s dead, but my it didn’t stop there. I almost lost the use of my leg when an infection was discovered. I haven’t informed the Captain, but my wound has not fully healed yet.”
"From your actions, you are hurt from this deeper than I thought. It is more than just subconscious, because the captain doesn't know. Why is it you think you keep reliving this moment? Could it be you wish to get some revenge?" Arya said, as she was trying to figure out if it was that or some other reason for this.
“Revenge, I wish I could get revenge, but that is not possible,” Matt scathed,” Starfleet knows little of what happened to that faction, but presumably they are dead. The Jefferson destroyed a couple ships and I think that those that did this to me died on those ships. And I don’t want to relive that moment, plus my dreams aren’t what really happened to me.”
"Could it be that you are afraid to die? Your dreams could be you have more wanting to live on, and with what they did you now are afriad because you came very close to death. Maybe there could be so much you wish to experience before you die," she said hoping she could understand a bit more about him.
“I don’t know,” Matt admitted,” injuries have always been a part of being an officer; I’ve always accepted that fact. I don’t fear death, but then again I fear what would happen to Caleb if I died, he has no one.”
"Could it be that is why your subconscious is bothering you, you haven't made sure Caleb will be taken care of after you are gone?" She said hoping this was the heart of the matter.
“After I’m gone,” Matt repeated, ”I’m only 22, I don’t plan on dieing anytime soon. Plus if anything ever did happen to me, I know that my parents would take Caleb in. I hate that I control my dreams, when I wake up I’m drenched. I’ve actually woken up screaming… but I don’t know why. I have never been afraid before, I have never questioned my decisions like I do now.”
"Well, its good to know that you have arrangements for Caleb. What decision are you questioning with this? Have you asked yourself that?" She said, and took a sip of her drink.
“Should I remain in Starfleet?” Matt said. It had always been his dream to be a Starfleet officer, but he didn’t know anymore. The Federation was at peace, but he knew that could change very quickly. Before it didn’t matter if he died, but now he had someone to live for. He knew he loved serving, but was it the best thing to do.
"Well, I don't know why you wouldn't want to be in Starfleet. Maybe if you could explain it a bit more," she suggested hoping this was helping him, even though she thought it wasn't.
"What am I doing to make a difference?" Matt said, "Am I making a difference?"
~Wow those are good questions.~ She thought.
"Its always good to search deep inside yourself to see if you are doing good. Think about the situations and mission you have been in or gone on. Think about what you did to give to the mission, how did you help those in need? How did Commander Matthew Reynolds help his crew in getting a solution for someone else in the Federation? Only you hold the answers to all this. Was your time wasted being an officer? From what I know, I would say the answer is no, but it isn't up to me to answer that. Its up to you, and only you," she said not sure where this all came from.
“No I wouldn’t say that my time in Starfleet has been a waste of time, but could I have been doing something else….” Matt said, but immediately stopped. All his questions were ‘what ifs’ and he couldn’t live his life like that. Yes he questioned some of his choices, but he was happy. The only problem was the fact that he kept having those dreams. “Commander, this has all be fun, but to be honest I just want to get rid of these nightmares.”
"Well, you have a couple of options, as I see it. You can seek out why you are having these nightmares, and see if you can try to solve it. You can seek out the doctor for a remedy. Lastly, you could just let it run its course. I wouldn't choose the last option if I were you, but then again, it might be just what the doctor ordered," she said and took another sip.
"I am sorry I couldn't help you more," she said expecting him to want to leave.
"Your wrong Commander, you have helped realize something else that has been bothering me," Matt said finally taking a drink of tea," and I think you have provided me insight how to stop my nightmares."
"Oh, good, one thing though, enough with the rank. It drives me nuts when people don't personalize things by using the rank. The name is Arya, if you don't mind," she said and smiled. She wanted to make a new friend, and hoped she didn't scare him off in any way.
"Well, Arya I think it's time we go to that senior staff meeting," Matt said as he returned the smile," it wouldn't be good if the first officer and the captain's wife arrived late."
"True, that would be bad, We should be going, it will start soon. I am sure he wouldn't mind if I was late, but you can't be late. I would be given a good stern talking to if he found out I caused you to be late to something this important," she said getting up and stretching out. She headed out, and he followed.

It had been almost thirty minutes since the Captain's announcement about the meeting. Torek had visited several departments, albeit briefly. Mainly just to show his face and personally check if there were an issues that needed his attention, there wasn't. He decided he would call back to his quarters before heading for the meeting.
~~~~~~~~~~
Arriving at the Briefing room some ten minutes early, he studied a PADD he had with him, trying not to look obviously nervous standing in the corridor. He still hadn't met the Captain personally, and one or two of the senior staff were unknown to him. He was, understandably, nervous at attending his first staff briefing..
Taking a deep breath he entered the Ready room.. several Officers were there already.
The doors opened and two Officers walked in, Acknowledging Carl as they took seats..
"Take a seat." said the Doctor, motioning to one of the empty chairs, then noticing Carl's apparent nervousness, continued, "Don't worry .. These thing's can be pretty informal, you'll be fine."
Carl took his seat and waited as other Officers entered, chatting quietly among themselves as they found their seats. Several nodding to Torek as they waited for the meeting to begin ..........
E'Liana and Zoarial were about to sit down when the captain sent a shipwide message to announce the briefing. E'Liana was about to get up, she didn't want to be late for the second time in a row, but Zoarial pushed her back into her chair.
"They can wait," he said with a smile, "and besides, we still have one hour. That's enough for a medium sized breakfast." but E'Liana still wasn't convinced. "Do you want us to disrupt the mission every couple of minutes with heavily rumbling stomaches?" Zoarial added and although she knew that he was exaggerating, E'Liana decided to remain seated.
After a more-elaborate-then-expected breakfast, Zoarial and E'Liana had to run to the briefing room which was harder-then-expected with full stomaches. With one minute to spare they burst into the room and quietly took a seat.
Zoarial looked around as if nothing had happened and waited for the captain to commence.
Arya took the turbolift, and found she was alone. She wondered where Commander Reynolds had disappeared to, but she didn't give it much thought. She liked the peaceful ride, since it gave her time to think about what was going on with the next mission and with some of the crew.
It wasn't long before she was on the right deck, and she headed for the Observation Lounge to see if she was the last one to get there.
Once inside the Observation Lounge, she noticed she wasn't the last person in, and she took her seat pulling out a padd for her personal notes. She also pulled out another padd putting it by the first. She started to write on the second padd.
Hey you, do you think we are ready for this? She sent the message to Steve hoping he had his padd on him.
OOC: OOC: (Hope it's OK to use another crew member in my post.) I'm fine with it, just so long as you don't kill her off, you can do almost anything ;-) IC: E’Liana said goodbye to the young Bajoran who had taken the early morning shift, promising him that she would be to Sickbay soon. Having signed off, her commbadge went off again, this time it was Zoarial. “Commander Zoarial to Doctor BeTor, meet me in the mess hall at 12.45. It's urgent” E’Liana was startled, hoping nothing was wrong. “Of course, Commander, I’ll be there right away. May I ask what’s wrong?” She asked, getting into Doctor-mode. “I don't have time to explain right now Commander. Just hurry up. Commander Zoarial out.” A little shaken, she decided to quicken her pace and made it there before he arrived. Watching the doors, she began to be a little impatient and started tapping her foot slightly. ~Some medical emergency…~ She thought wryly to herself. The doors opened once again and finally admitted Zoarial into the room. E’Liana once again became worried. "What's wrong Zoarial?" she asked to the Klingon who looked back in an equally worried kind of way. "Well... BREAKFAST!" Zoarial said and he suddenly smiled broadly. "I thought you'd like to have some with me." And with a small wink he turned and got them a table. E’Liana let out an exasperated sigh and sat down opposite Zoarial. ~*~ Running down the corridor, she fleetingly supposed that two fully-grown Klingons hurtling through a confined space may be frightening to some people. However, she didn’t much care right now, considering the fact that they were going to be late. Again. As they neared what they thought was the Briefing Room (remembering what had happened last time…), E’Liana slowed down, and pulled on Zoarial’s arm to make him do so too. “We don’t want to make it look like we’re running…” She said, somewhat paranoid. Zoarial looked at her with a sceptical glance but said nothing, preferring instead to just go into the room. Once they walked in, E’Liana noticed Ensign Torek milling about looking rather anxious. "Take a seat." She said, motioning to one of the empty chairs, "Don't worry .. These things can be pretty informal, you'll be fine." She grinned at Zoarial and sat down, weary. <TAG Carl/Zoarial>
The hour long meeting that Matt had just had with Arya had helped him immensely. The problem that he had come with had not yet been solved, but Matt now knew that he could easily fix whatever ailed as long as he had his friends and family. That problem resolved, Matt had to deal with the current one. Captain Smith had given them enough warning, but still he was going to be late.
People stopped and stared as Matt was running through the corridors. By the time he got to his destination he had worked up a sweat. He took a minute to fix himself up and entered the conference room.
He was surprised to see that he was not late, the meeting had yet to begin. He eyed everyone in the room offering them all smiles. He had just arrived, but he noticed that E'Liana and Zoarial had as well. He could easily tell by there lose of breath.
"Thought you were going to be late didn't you," Matt said as he took his seat.
"Apparently we were not the only ones," E'Liana remarked as she sat down next to Zoarial.
"So everyone is here except the Captain, the counselor, and chief engineer," Matt said glad that the captain had not been there.
"Mr. Torek, am I right in guessing that you have been informed that these things are pretty informal?" Matt asked.
"Yes, sir," Carl responded.
"Well not anymore, Ensign these meetings are going to be formal and extremely professional!" Matt said loud and stern enough to even make E'Liana straighten up in her seat. After a few seconds of awkward silence Matt spoke again.
"Ensign I'm just kidding of course," Matt said," I have actually fallen asleep in one of these, but of course that was not my fault."
Carl had been getting settled, he was going over notes on a PADD and listening to the other Officers' chatting. He'd seen several people arrive and take their seat's, obviously fearing they were late and relieved they weren't. Carl looked up as the far doors opened and Commander Reynolds burst in, not exactly running, but close.
Noticing the Captain hadn't arrived yet the Exec' made his way to his seat, talking to one or another Officer as he passed them. Looking up from a conversation with the Doctor, he turned to Torek ...
"Mr Torek, am I right in guessing you have been informed that these thing's are pretty informal ?"
The tone of the Executive Officer caused the chatter round the table to cease .. Carl felt every eye on him ..
"Yes Sir." was all he could say.
"Well not any more .. Ensign, these meeting's are going to be formal and extremely professional !" said the Commander.
Carl could feel himself go white then begin to blush. His eyes flicked from others round the table and back to his XO... several seconds of complete silence passed.
"Ensign." said Matt with a grin, "I'm just kidding, I've actually fallen asleep during one of these .. but of course, that was not my fault."
Several Officer's laughed at this statement and smiled at Torek, who got the feeling he had just been the object of a practical joke ... Sighing, he grinned and worked hard at getting his heart rate down to a level that wouldn't promote an attack !
Thinking now would be a good time 'not' to pass out he studied his PADD once again ..........
McLean woke up where he collapsed from exhaustion the night before, on the floor. His back hurt and the deep impression of a PADD ran down the side of his face. Since his promotion to Lt. Commander, McLean had found himself working long shifts, but it didn't bother him as long as everybody on the ship was safe.
"I may want to find my way into bed next time." McLean said as he tried to stretch out the kinks in his back.
=/\= All senior staff, this is the.....Captain. =/\==/\= I will be holding a meeting in the briefing room in one hour. Do not be late. Smith out. =/\=
McLean cursed silently to himself. He was in no mood for a staff meeting, let alone another mission. Making sure the dock technicians didn't rest all his personal modifications was hard enough, but now another staff meeting.
With only more than a grumbled McLean took dragged his tired body into the bathroom for a much needed sonic shower. After what felt like an hour McLean got dressed into a new, clean uniform then began the long trek to the briefing room.
Stepping into the briefing room McLean was surprised to find that he wasn't the last one to make it, the Captain was still missing. McLean took comfort in that thought as he sat down in his normal spot.
Steve strode into the briefing room, and had to chuckle to himself. For not the first time, he was virtually the last one there. He approached his seat at the head of the table and stood behind it, tapping the headrest.
"Thank you all for your punctuality." He said. "But before I begin properly, I would like to formally welcome our newest crewmembers to the Raven, and our briefing. Commander Matt Reynolds, our new FO. Commander Chris Majeski, Acting Ensign Carl Torek, and Rio Jackson." He pointed out each one as he said their name and smiled, in an attempt to make them at ease.....if they werent in the first place. "I know you will be fine additions to the crew."
Steve took a deep breath and sat down. "Ok, now that is out of the way, time for the reason for you being here. In light of Admiral Mc7 of 9's kidnap from the Raven, Starfleet have decided that we, and we alone are to commence the search for the admiral. We have been ordered back to New London, the colony we just came from, to begin the search and investigation there. We are to use whatever means necessary to find him. Although finding him is one thing.....we also need to rescue him as well, so I need your departments to work together on this if we are going to be able to succeed. Both Starfleet and myself have every confidence in our ability to find what happened to the admiral.
"Mr Zoarial, once we are finished here I want you to set course for New London at maximun warp. The sooner we get started, the sooner we can get Admiral MC back."
<Zoarial>
"Mr Maclean, is there any way to boost the sensors to be able to scan for the admiral, or even just give us a little extra help?"
<Scott>
"Any questions, at all?" Steve asked the room, hoping that someone would have one.
"Mr McLean, is there any way to boost the sensors to be able to scan for the admiral, or even just give us a little extra help?"
"Oh sure. I could boost the power output and realign the sensors to look specifically for the Admiral's com. badge, but in the likely case he wont be wearing it I can team up with the Commander BeTor and get his specific bio patterns. Borg bio patters are pretty unique, and with those we could use them to locate the Admiral. ." McLean replied.
McLean sat back in his chair and listened as more spoke. He couldn't place it but McLean felt as if Commander Reynolds didn't like him. He happened to catch a couple of odd glances from the First Officer that left McLean curious.
Carl had been listening to the questions and answer's to aid in getting the Admiral back that were going round the table. A thought had occurred to him as he sat taking in the Chief Engineer's idea...
"Excuse me, Commander McLean." he said, hoping he was ok to talk, "I've had a thought, it's a good idea to get the Admiral's bio signs .. but what about getting his last transporter record ... That way, We could pre-programme one of the transporters to lock onto the Admiral's signal ... It may just save us the few seconds we need .... "
McLean thought for a moment nodding.
"Yes." he replied, "I can have that set up no problem." he said, smiling at Torek.
As the conversation continued, Carl felt a little more at ease. He'd spoken up and brought an idea to the table. The nervousness he'd felt at the start of the meeting seemed to be easing ..........
Arya listened to what each of them had to say watching them carefully to see the facial expressions on the news. She took down notes when needed.
"I do have a question, what is to keep us from going back to a different dimension once we reach New London? After all we don't know they didn't have more than one device, or they could have made another one," she asked from her little corner of the table.
"Could it be possible that the admiral isn't even in our dimension? Maybe we should run scans for anamolies to see if anyone was dimension hopping," she suggested hoping this little bit would help.
Arya didn't know of any other way to figure out what could have happened, and being just the counsellor, she didn't see why she was needed for this briefing. She continued to take a couple more notes.
E'Liana listened to the briefing in silence. She was already mentally preparing a list of things she would need to prepare for the Admiral if - when, she reminded herself - the found the Admiral. His state of health could be questionable to say the least, afterall, they WERE dealing with an abduction. She sighed quietly to herself, thinking about how dishonourable such behaviour was and how nothing like this would ever happen on Qo'noS. ~And people think Klingons are barbaric...~ she mused silently to herself.
Looking over at Zoarial, seeing the distant look in his eyes, she had the feeling that he was thinking along the same lines as herself.
Suddenly, she zoned back into the conversation people were apparently having without her at the sound of her name:
"...I can team up with the Commander BeTor and get his specific bio patterns. Borg bio patters are pretty unique, and with those we could use them to locate the Admiral."
She nodded. "I can give you those when the meeting has finished, I'll check through his medical records. There may be a way of activating his borg signature enough to single him out, although that's more your area of expertise..." she said sheepishly, suddenly realising that her engineering knowledge was about as extensive as a Klingon's view on Logic.
<McLean/Anyone>
Mulling over what had been said so far, she realised she had much to teach her new Bajoran nurse. ~I wonder how long it'll take me to convince him to go on an away mission if we need to help Mc7....~ she thought to herself.
OOC: I'm afraid I'm still on an 'LOA', as we don't have extensive net connection here :-(
Steve only wait a few moments until Lt. Commander Maclean answered him.
"Oh sure. I could boost the power output and realign the sensors to look specifically for the Admiral's com. badge, but in the likely case he wont be wearing it I can team up with the Commander BeTor and get his specific bio patterns. Borg bio patters are pretty unique, and with those we could use them to locate the Admiral."
The Doctor added; "I can give you those when the meeting has finished, I'll check through his medical records. There may be a way of activating his borg signature enough to single him out, although that's more your area of expertise..."
Steve nodded. "Well, thats that settled then." He looked around the room at everyone. "We are all going to need to work together on this one." Just when he was about to close the meeting, Arya spoke up:
"I do have a question, what is to keep us from going back to a different dimension once we reach New London? After all we don't know they didn't have more than one device, or they could have made another one," she asked from her little corner of the table.
"Could it be possible that the admiral isn't even in our dimension? Maybe we should run scans for anamolies to see if anyone was dimension hopping," she suggested hoping this little bit would help"
"That is a question that I have been asking myself already. We dont know what will happen until we get there, but until we do, and even when we do reach our destination, I want the ship to remain on full alert, and to check for any anomalies that may occur."
He lookat at everyone, and Arya in particular. "We may even need to find out of the colonists have had any part in this. So, they may need a bit of gentle persuasion." He said, with a slight smirk.
Steve started spinning his wedding ring around his finger....a sign of his nervousness. He knew he wanted to be back in command of a starship, but this was NOT how he intended it to happen. All he wanted was to find Mc7 and let things return to normal.
"Anything else before I call a close of this briefing?" He asked the room.
After the briefing, Arya headed onto the bridge over to the chair next to the captain's. She looked over a few things and sighed realizing she didn't have all the information she needed. She got up and went to Ops to see what she could gather.
Arya had been at Ops for a good twenty minutes when the person running it turned to her. "Ma'am, I believe this might help," he said pointing something out about a strange reading.
"Yes that might help, but keep quiet about it for now. I don't want to freak the crew if it is just a space ghost," she said picking up a padd. She knew it had to be reported, but she didn't want just anyone to hear this.
Steve, there is something going on here. We have a strange reading about something. I'm not sure what to make of it. You might want to take a look. I commanded the officer here to keep quiet so as not to spook the crew.
She sent the message hoping the reply would be something wrong with the Ops station.
