The final decision on a name will, of course, have to be voted on by the CSS. After that happens, though, this project can have a real name, rather than "Flagship Project." This will also be the name of the prototype, but not necessarily of the flagship.

We already have a ship named Hepta.... therefore may I suggest you change the name to Tetteras in the poll? Kinda has a ring to it... Tetteras class....

But it's his first name. There's no HMS Winston or USS George.

Yes I know we have a ship named Hepta, but it's old and damaged, and if we wanted to replace it with a bright shiny new ship of a new class, I say why not?

And for those voting, I would urge you to read the arguments for and against each name in the name thread. (Doohan doesn't sound like a good class name)

Not to mention in the Star Trek world, Doohan never was famous.

I like the irony of it. Because Doohan was famous in the world of Star Trek, he could never be famous in the Star Trek world. Unlike the character, who is famous in both.

But seriously, it'd be a nice tribute for any other ship, but this isn't any other ship, this is the flagship. I think we should go with something that would embody the class and the idea of the ship.

I think everyone should go and look at the first two design ideas before choosing a name. Since a pointy one would fit the name 'Zenith' well, but the round one would fit 'Unity' better.

Well those were my personal opinions, the point is just that the ship might not LOOK like the name people were thinking of.

I think a ship looking like a name is a bit of a personal opinion.

It wasn't meant to influence but to make the point that someone might vote for one thing and then see it and think 'oh wait, that looks more like a USS Lobsterpot' or similar. For gods sakes noone vote on the basis of what I think a ship looks like, have a look for yourself.

Gaia wasn't actually the top god in Greek mythology. She was the female progenitor god and partner to Oranos (sky). But she and he were deposed by Kronos (Kronos killed Oranos), then Kronos by Zeus. She had a status much like the Queen Mother had in England did with Royalists; important, but only as a figure, not in any real sense and certainly was not one of the greater (Olympian) gods.

she is parent to all give of life even to the sky her mate. she may been an olympian god but she was not disposed of she gave kronos the sickel to de ball his father (and latter deafeat) her father and aided in the deafeat of her son kronos every thing in greek mythology by helping to hide zeus
after she arose broad-breasted Gaia the everlasting foundation of the gods of Olympus. She brought forth Uranus, the starry sky, her equal, to cover her, the hills, and the fruitless deep of the Sea, Pontus, "without sweet union of love," out of her own self. But afterwards, Hesiod tells, she lay with Uranus and bore the World-Ocean Oceanus,
and sheda true top dog of the greeks she also is still top dog in neopangansim to day

Ahh, yes she features majorly in certain forms of neo-paganism, but not in Greek mythology. In that she was relatively unimportant. Zeus was the top god in the Greek religion and none of the other gods even came close, with the sole exception of Athena in the Athenian religion, but even there she was still subservient to Zeus. Also, she did not hide Zeus, that was Rhea, Kronos' wife.
Using Hesiod's Works and Days as proof of Gaia's status is not the best approach since the book was about farming life more than anything and was by no means a theological discourse. In farming communities she would be important to some degree, but even there Hesiod recognises that she is at most a 'foundation', not the actual top god. Also, in Greek farming the Olympian goddess of grain Demeter features more strongly than Gaia, as does Cybele in some Eastern areas of the Greek world.
