I think perhaps we should use the three-dimensional-type viewscreen that was developed in DS9-but not seen much there, since many of the ships at the time were not compatable with it, but quite some time has passed since then, so it might be more common.
If anyone ever draws plans of this, don't forget the toilets.
They didn't include those on the Constitution and Galaxy plans (originally at least) and were ridiculed for it ('The new Enterprise equipped with... two toilets'). I've seen plans of a Sovereign top deck which has them (naval term for them is 'head').
That's the point, only two were shown. Imagine the queue around the bridge. Or the abuse of replicators... I always imagined they just flushed the waste into the matter chamber for the warp core. Matter is matter after all.
Maybe white enamel. It might be more expensive, but could you imagine trying to look at chrome first thing in the morning? Keep the gold trim though. Maybe a gold plated flush and a Federation symbol on the cover?
No, I would imagine that they would keep the individual ship emblems- like the enterprise patches, or the Excelsior logo on sulu's cup., Granted, Sulu's cup is simple, but mission patches are a grand tradition, and I like to imagine that they just arn't worn as rank insignia anymore. Instead, they are just used as an orniment- decor and the like.
Put that on the top of the toilet.
I could design one if we get a few images of the ship...
Hmmm... I was thinking that maybe we could make an oficer only area behind the bridge a single halway perhaps with the captains RR, 1st off. RR, 2nd Off. ready room and a mini engineering and science room(Like a mini stellar cartography perhaps). perhaps with an officers lounge at the end of the hall. then do something no starship has done before...put the observational lounge (where official meetings take place) directly in front of the bridge just behind the viewscreen. If you like this Idea I can work on a sketch and plan the bridge layout
Looks perfectly fine to me, though it's the type of bridge I would expect on a smaller starship. As a CO, I personally prefer the CO's ready room the way it was laid out on the Galaxy, Sovereign and Intrepid classes, but it's a good starting point and it's not my ship, lol.
The SO's office is still only marginally bigger than a turbolift though
I wonder if we shouldn't use area around the bridge instead of the area ... behind it. Keep the observation deck at the front, then the view screen ... then based on the last illustration. Have the hallway at the back leading to the officer's lounge with the Sec/Tact office on one side of the hallway and the second officer's office/ready room on the other side. Then have the captain's ready room and the first officer's ready room on opposing sides of the bridge. Kinda like ... I believe the galaxy was set up that way.
I also liked the galaxy's bridge set up ... having very defined levels like in TOS seems ... kinda out of sync. I mean, the captain is not a god so putting him up on a pedestal does not sync with modern starfleet. Having stations placed randomly around the captain makes no sense ... there should be some order to it. It seems logical that the two most important stations in regular operation, Navigations and Operations, should be situated in front of the captain to facilitate his control over the ship with increased ease. In voyager the captain seemed to have to be out of her seat to encompass both OPS and Navigations ... that doesn't seem like such a great idea.
Im not gonna mess with it, I would mess it up knowin me.
Yet I do kinda agree with what he is saying, I think though that the Sovrein class was an exellent style of bridg layout, I would like to see one like this, but keep the readyroom etc as it is (still change the 3rd officers room to TAC/SEC office)
I agree ... it seems a more logical choice to have that office reserved for the science officer. Then nearly all the major areas outside of helm would have their own office near their general facilities. Especially if they change that officer's lounge into a science lab or stellar cartography area.
I think there might be security implications for having a large store of weapons right next to the ship's command hub, so access would need to be limited to all but the most senior of officers, and it would need to be pretty damned impenetrable.
I think a holodeck's going a bit far, but I like the other suggestions so far. I agree we don't need CTSO office near the bridge (he can use his station for most things) but am not sure the SO needs one either. The position doesn't really have any duties unless the CO and/or FO are away, in which case they can use their departmental office. In fact, I can't think of anyone else who would need an office next to the bridge, other than the CO and FO.
The officer's lounge would be nice though ... and if it's just the CO and FO then you could manage to place their offices behind the bridge ... along that hallway ... along with a few bathrooms perhaps? lol. Also, this way, the bridge could be streamlined, both officers would have an office with a view ... lol ... and everyone could have access to the privy.
And in all my time as FO of two ships here, why did I never have an office? Was it cos you didnt like me?
But seriously, I agree with some of what has been said. I personally dont see the need to have any office other than ones for the CO and FO next to the bridge. If we had offices for all or most of the DH's on Deck 1, then all it would take would a a huge blast or something to hit the bridge and surrounding area and the entire senior crew would be out.....not a very wise idea in my opinion.
You may or may not agree, thats your choice....I just wanted to add my thoughts!
