This topic is just for ideas for the name of the class. As this is a prototype, it will probably be the name of the ship too.
If anyone has any specific ideas about registry number, that would go in here too (although there isn't much to discuss about that).

I am quite partial to the name we were gonna use in Omicron originally....the USS Doohan, in memory of James Doohan!

I like Smith's idea, it should be a tribute to James Doohan, and his character was an engineer.
I would same the registration would probably be NX-and then a number as all new starfleet ship has an NX at the front.

I'm not sure it sounds very good, but I understand the tribute...
I've always liked the USS Puissant, but I also liked the suggestion of dedicating it to our founder Tettares Hepta. I'm pretty flexible though

Yeah, which is why I prefer the Puissant, but it was a nice idea all the same

I’m against Doohey, although I understand the tribute.
I like Puissant, but it means powerful, and I’m not entirely sure that’s what we want to be going with for this ship.
I’d like to suggest the Corona class, as a possible name.

Although the I understand the idea of the tribute to Doohan, I don't really like it as a name for a starship.
I'm more inclined to go with a name that personifies what the class is going to be. Something big and grand? Or the name of some kind of huge animal or something?
Just an idea.

We could do Zenith.
Or if we were to name if after an animal, I want to suggest gazelle. Rather than something large and menacing, a gazelle is swift. But that's just an idea.

Anyone with any ideas that they want put into Greek or Latin for ideas just post the English word here. Like Aurora or Oculus Aeternus (Light and Eternal Eye). Or Katoranion (Thing Which Goes Through The Sky)

Again, nice sentiment, but I don't think it really embodies the idea of the ship.

What about the USS Champion? it's unclaimed...
or... USS Contender USS Dash Endurance Impervious Tenacious Queenfish Pride Union
All of those are US navy ship names, that could be used here (no other sim has used them or no canon ship has laid claim to the name.
I like Union myself.... but I wnt through about athousand names and picked those out as good ones.

Union gave me the thought of "Alliance". Which has some meaning especially after the Dominion War.
Another one I thought of was "Explorer".

Alliance sounds good too...
for either name, I have a few quotes....
The work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives and the dreams shall never die. -Edward Kennedy
In skating over thin ice, our safety is in our speed.- Ralph Waldo Emerson
just a few universal quotes for any ship name.

I would suggest NOT naming it after a current warship. Two reasons: Wrong ethos. Alienation of people not from the same nationality as the ship.
How about USS Gaia? It has a big sound to it.
Also... Gaia = Land Land is one of the 4 basic elements of economics. Land, Labour, Capital and (of course) Enterprise!

Isn't Gaia the Goddess of the Earth?
(a singer called Valensia has a beautiful song called Gaia btw)
Aye, I like the sound of Gaia

most of those names arn't active ships. I found a listing of active and retired vvessels- every name in the fleet, ever. most all of those ships are no longer in service.
Besides, There are a lot of ST ships that use American or English navy names.
BTW, there was a Gaia on the navy listing. If you wnat to search the british listings, feel free.

It's not named after a warship though, it's named after the (protective) goddess of the Earth. Even if a warship shares the name, if it's not named after it then it doesn't matter half so much.
Besides, so far as I know just about all the members here are Western and Western culture owes a lot to the ancient Greek culture in which Gaia existed.

I wasn't sugesting we name it after the warship- god no. I merely wnet there to get name ideas. those are just some that I liked.
Personally I don't like Gaia. besides it beng the goddess of the EARTH, I don't think it has the ring. USS Alliance or USS Union or USS Zenith. out of what's been suggested, those are my top picks.

If you mean Earth as in the planet, then she's just goddess of the ground really, not of a specific planet's ground. If it's because Mr Starship shouldn't really ever meet Mr Ground then how about USS Oranos? Oranos (Greek original spelling of 'Uranus') was Gaia's partner and god of the sky. Ooh, we could call it USS Mr Starship.

I meant that the stars or sky would reflect a starship much better. USS Oranos sounds like a name that could be used, but not for the pro=imary pathfinder ship. After al, it's going to be the name of the class too...
Union class Alliance class Zenith class
those all sound really good to me.
