I didn't see Union... and I din't sugest alliance.
In that case, I think my top pick would be Zenith.

What about naming it after a large bird as it does fly though space. Like Hawk or Falcon

Hawk is out, it was a canon ship. Falcon's taken.
Zenith means up when using a six point compasss system, I like that symbolisim.

A little note here: Just because other sites use them, doesn't mean we can't.

I know it doesn't strictly mean we can't, but it does appear that other sites go with the idea so it would be arrogant of us to ignore it. I haven't seen more than one of each ship name so far when new designs have been made.

I agree. anything in use by another site is off limits for me. I'm not going to use any name already claimed.

I’m going to list the ones people have come up with here, just to have a sort-of running total. I’m not going to try to rule very many things out yet, though I may have forgotten some, which can easily be remedied by others. I’m not going to count the person who suggested it as a person in favor of it, but that’s just the system I’ve chosen to use, but keep it in mind. We can cross definite ones off the list once we’re sure we don’t want them, and while I think some have been spoken against, no such definite decisions have been made. But I’ve taken out those that already have been used by other fans, just because there are enough names, plus, Jared is pretty convincing.
Doohan There’s two for it, three against.
Corona
Endeavour Tettares Victory Darwin Warrior Champion Contender Dash Endurance Impervious Tenacious Queenfish Pride I’m against those
Oranos I like this one
Parks Puissant One against each of those. And I’m going to throw my vote against Parks as well, bringing the total to two against it.
Gaia One for it, one against. I like it, at least a little so my vote’s there
Zenith One for it. I can’t really vote for this one, as I suggested it and all. But it’s my favorite of the one’s I’ve suggested…
I’ve thrown my votes in there in cyan and italic. Names of the ships are in red.
Hope it helps people to see them visually catalogued, if not, well, it's at least helped me.

I like Gaia... oh and Zenith. I would like to put in a suggestion if I may. I am the kind of guy that like's to use things from my life in what I write etc Recently I have been reading about the Seven Dispensations. (It is Biblical, so I hope that I am not offending anyone but writing this). I really like the idea of having a "Dispensation" class, dispensation means period of time as far as I understand it so it would be like a new period in ship design, a new period for Section 47... I dunno, just an idea! ;D

A USS Gaia of Zenith class....or a USS Zenith of Gaia class (either way would mean making two ships of the same class anyways.....one could be like an NPC vessel while the other is used in the fleet...or both in the fleet)

Why don't we just hold a poll on the favourite names so far and see which one everyone likes best?

Why dont we bring back that old gem of a name - Rubberduck, now known as the Excalibur LOL
Another thought is that the first starship ever to sim on this site was a chaemelaon class I believe. That may tie in with the sites birth and draw together the multipurpose nature of teh ship. It can do all things, be all sorts of diff kinds of ship, war, science , medical etc etc - Chameleon fits quite well.

Actually, the flagship is never the prototype is it? Constitution, Excelsior, Ambassador, Galaxy and Sovereign were the prototypes.
So we need a ship name and a class name.

How do we know what previous Starfleet flagships have been?
Just a little point, we're not deciding upon a name here, merely coming up with them. So however many "votes" each name gets, it will not be decided here.

Because TOS Enterprise met the Constitution. Enterprise A was same class, just modified. Enterprise B was a modified Excelsior class, of which we had already met the NX-2000. We know there were 10 Galaxies made and the tradition was already around then to name the classes after the prototypes.
Also it makes sense; the flagship isn't decomissioned just because a better class is around. You let it finish its run and then make a new one using the best class of the time. Also you don't want an untested flagship class; it was bad enough on Ent-B when the class was tested but the ship wasn't. Also often you go through multiple prototypes or end up scrapping it soon after development.
The point just was that we need two names, not one.

As far as we've seen on Star Trek, the only two flagships mentioned on screen were the USS Enterprise-D and the USS Enterprise-E.
There has been no information given on the flagships of the Federation/Starfleet in the other 200 years of its existence.
Also, I would point out that this ship is to be Section 47's flagship, not necessarily the Federation Flagship.

The design problems of using a prototype still stand for section 47 or Starfleet as a whole. The label itself means something that comes before the full type. Like proto-human. It would also make the name debates easier because then we'd have two of them; one (probably inactive) prototype one with the class name and one active one with the other name.
Also, we have seen all 5 Enterprises so far on screen. Original was on TOS, A and B were film ones and C was in TNG for one episode.

But the only ones that were specifically known as flagships were the Enterprise D and E.

Which confirms the status of the previous ones as Flagships since the name and registration continued. This doesn't happen for any other ship.

Give me a little while, and I will confirm the flagship status.

I'm not disputing the fact that we've seen all seven Enterprises on screen. I AM disputing that they were all flagships. The only two mention onscreen were D and E.

Well the only ship you continue the registration and name for is the flagship. Therefore since the Enterprise D was mentioned as flagship, it also means that the previous ones were as well.

That comment wasnt aimed at you Alexander, it was for Reman.
Umm.....Defiant, anyone?
And also, how many ships in S47 have A's, B's or even C's on their registry?
