“I will try and make sure I don’t crash the ship on my first day, or give the Chief Engineer a heart attack, Commander. I think I'll wait until day 2 before I start to do any of that; need time to settle in,” the new officer replied before moving to the helm.
“See that you take the time,” Megan replied, smirking slightly after him before sitting back down and picked up the discarded reports she had been reading. Everything appeared to be settling down well, and repairs were coming along well. In light of all the surprises coming her way during the shoreleave, Commander Garrett was quite looking forward to the new mission getting underway so that things could get back to normal as soon as possible. Unfortunately, that didn’t seem to be the plan...
The message flashing across her chair-side screen emphasized that all too clearly, as it announced she had an incoming transmission, another all too familiar one. In a matter of minutes, Megan had handed over command of the bridge, moved to her quarters, and nodded grimly at the expected appearance of Admiral LaPage.
“Don’t look so happy to see me…” the Admiral quipped before getting right down to business. “I have your first assignment and the Jefferson’s next mission. It’s not quite what you’re used to, but I have my reasons for assigning it to your ship. It’s been linked to a member of your crew, Doctor Nathan van Breughel, a civilian CMO.” Biting back a groan and wondering what the doctor had done to get himself into more trouble, Megan allowed him to continue. “I know you’re already aware of his new daughter, as I can see you’ve done some preliminary investigation. We have linked his case to a number of incidents that have occurred throughout this region.”
Her attention captured, the Commander leaned forward. “What kind of incidents?”
“Blackmail,” David replied. “High level officers, politicians...not just in the Federation but among several planetary governments as well; in each case, DNA is stolen and a child created. Whoever is behind this does extensive research on their target as they either offer to kill the child or threaten to do so based on what would be most beneficial to the prospective parent. Their requests are also individually tailored.”
“I don’t understand...” Megan commented frowning. “What reason would this group have to blackmail our CMO, a civilian doctor? What possible benefit could there be?”
“We speculate that the target wasn’t him directly, most likely his sister, Commodore Reckus, or perhaps even his brother, who is a diplomat to the Romulan Empire.”
“He hasn’t received any threat or communication from them that I’m aware of, and clearly the Commodore and Ambassador haven’t either, as you are unsure which was the target. As highly unusual as this incident is, how can you be sure there is a connection?” Commander Garrett asked, her mind still spinning with implications.
“The pattern fits perfectly,” the Admiral replied. “And actually the fact that there was no communication does as well. You know the doctor better than I do, but I doubt a doctor would want his own child murdered to spare embarrassment. Those who are contacted with a threat to kill the child only do so after the infant’s birth, with a picture and DNA evidence proving life and paternity. Because of the escape, they never received a chance and the pattern was broken. We have seen this several times, Commander. There is no doubt on our part that this is definitely connected”
Nodding once, Megan replied. “I understand, Admiral, and so how do we proceed?”
“I forwarded everything we have to you, along with your orders to investigate and apprehend those responsible. Captain Reynolds will be receiving his own copy of orders for the Jefferson to track down those responsible for what happened to the doctor, child, and child’s mother,” Admiral LaPage replied as the files were received.
Nodding again, the agent hesitated before asking, “Sir, how much of the information I have does Captain Reynolds and the rest of the crew have access to? I think, in this situation, withholding details would unnecessarily hamper this investigation.”
Smiling slightly, David replied, “They have access to almost everything, save the specific details of the previous cases, names, locations, and such. All dates, times, and hard evidence is included in the report sent to your Captain and will most likely be passed along to those in your crew who require the information to do their jobs.” Smirking slightly, the Admiral added, “I’m surprised at you, Megan. You’re not usually so squeamish about keeping others in the dark. In fact, you used to love being the only one who really knew what was going on to its full extent. This isn’t like you.”
Smirking in response, Megan sighed as she answered. “Things are different now. I’m not just here for this mission, with those around me aware that it’s my mission and that I have information and authority they lack. I know these people, and I have work with them once this mission is over. The situation has changed, drastically.”
His smile fading, David LaPage looked reflective for a moment. “I hadn’t thought of it like that... I suppose I hadn’t really stopped to think of the complications that this duel career would actually have on you entirely, but I still know you’re capable of it.”
“I am,” Megan replied smoothly, beginning to compile the little she’d gathered so far, in spite of the fact that her superior most likely already had it. “I considered all the ramifications before accepting. I’m transferring everything I’ve gathered so far to you now. It’s not much, and I’m sure you’re already aware of it, but I’m sending it anyway. I will continue investigating on my own as well, and keep you updated.”
Nodding, the Admiral replied, “Acknowledged, Commander. Good luck, LaPage out.”

Standing in front of the captain was a little wierd for him, to be honest he couldn't remember the last time he had to stand in front of a captain. His last assignment had him reporting to admirals wanting to know what he thought of the ship design and its responses. Come to think of it the last captain he really talked to was Captain Drago and that wasn't the best ending.
He waited for the captain to look up from his computer screen, he seemed to be studying something but couldn't guess what it was. He found no need to say anything he had arleady stated his name, rank and his last assignment. So he stood there and waited for the captain to say something.

"Alright, I'll take a team of engineers into the starboard nacelle and will get repairs under way. We'll give it a thorough overhaul."
The feline nodded carefully, murring at the idea as he paused, “Yes, that would be for the best.” Writhing his tail, he moved to a computer console, giving Valad the appropriate access to the aforementioned area without any speech. He would have assumed that the other knew what he was doing, and therefore, it needed no explanation.
The group reached the control room and cat-walk of the starboard nacelle.
However, unbeknowest to them, J’Var T’Ress had followed them, perhaps to keep on eye on their activity as much as he could have. He seemed to be acting as a fatherly figure, though not in an obtrusive manner. That having been said, the aforementioned cat walk was now, indeed, a cat walk in more ways than it had initially been so styled.
||||
They arrived after a short climb and found T'ress working intently.
T’Ress had, in fact, moved into this position and regained control over his work. After feeling comfortable with the capabilities of his own work crews, he felt that it was no longer necessary for them to be monitored under any condition. Therefore, he had returned to his work, monitoring the warp coils.
Valad spoke up. "Commander. We found something at the back of the starboard nacelle that I'd like you to take a look at." He handed T'ress the unit.
The feline took the unit, purring. His tail stood now straight, launched back into his pensive nature that had previously been displayed. Puzzled at the device, he thought carefully about its manufacture before he consigned himself to simply allowing the next speech to be delivered to him in question.
"We can't figure out what it's made of. I've never seen it before. And we'll need to take the starboard engine offline so we can make repairs on the warp coils."
J’Varr T’Ress’ tail then relaxed, nodding in agreement to his request to pull the engine off line. That would be wholly acceptable, he though, and in fact a necessity that he too would very much understand.
Taking the device, he thanked the officer, and moved over to niche in which a replicator was held. Placing the device inside of it, he ordered the computer to replicate the device, and therefore, develop a list of materials from which it was made from.
=^= Unable to Complete Request =^= “Merrrow, why computer?”
=^= Object Does Not Conform to Specifications =^=
Shaking his head, turning back to the other, “Well, that leaves us out of it…our work is cut out.”

After returning home from the tour of the ship, Nathan excused himself from his father's company to tend to his children. Jayden had indeed taken excellent care of them, seeing to it that they were fed and bathed. "She won't sleep," the young marine explained the reason while the baby was still not in her crib, while Freddy appeared to be fast asleep. "I think she's hungry but I can't get her to eat anything more than she's already had. I gave her the formula you programmed into the replicator.
Smiling slightly, Nathan took the crying infant from him and held her close. Instantly, he knew what the problem was. "You've never changed a diaper before, have you love?" he queried.
Somewhat embarassed, Jayden shook his head. "That option hadn't even occurred to me. I'm so sorry."
Nathan shifted the weight of little Angelique on his arm, then pulled the marine close. "Come, I'll teach you." Minutes later, the marine left the bathroom, another lesson wiser and a big smile plastered on his face. While the doctor finished up with the baby, Jayden turned to the older man stood in the middle of the livingroom. "Can I get you anything sir?" he asked politely.
The older doctor turned and shook his head. "No son, nothing you can do but thank you."
"Are you all right?" Jayden looked worried as he examined his partner's father. "You don't look well."
"Bad news," Peter van Breughel answered, as Nathan emerged from the children's bedroom. "I just had word from Starbase 47. The Vesuvius is impounded, the crew detained on starbase for questioning regarding the death of Admiral Elron. I'm going over there post haste to see if I can do anything to raise your sister's spirits. Will you be all right here?"
"Detained? For murder? Her?" Nathan barely could compose a proper sentence as he tried to curb his surprise at the news. "She wouldn't! Her crew wouldn't!" He shook his head in disbelief. "No you should go to her, if they'll allow you on board. Give her my love and the good news?" He nodded towards the bedroom, then gestured towards the Betazoid marine.
"I'll tell her she's an aunt again," Peter promised, "and I'll tell her you've found yourself someone. She'll be very pleased to hear that. You know she's been nagging me to nag you about being alone and a single parent for years now." He gave his son a tight hug, then turned to Jayden to give him the same treatment. "Take care of him son," he added, then walked out on the two men.
"I'm going to the bridge," Nathan announced, "if the starbase is locked down, I'm going to need someone with high security clearance to send a message to her. Dad'll talk to her of course, they can't deny him as he's her father. And I need to know if there's more news on the identity of the girl in my morgue. I want to be able to give her a proper burial. Dammit Jayden, she's young enough to be my daughter herself! That poor girl, I can't let this go uninvestigated. I just can't."
The marine stepped in closer. "It'll all come out," he promised, "we'll find out what the deal is behind this, how she became pregnant of your child. Someone cheated you, that's obvious." He reached over and activated the holographic nanny. "I'm going with you, I won't let you do this on your own."
Nathan nodded, and a scant ten minutes after the old doctor had left the Jefferson, the two men strolled out of their quarters and walked their way towards the nearest turbolift.
(anyone wanna come across them and have some interaction?)

"Commander Pride welcome to the USS Jefferson, I hope she can be as exciting as the prototypes you have been piloting as of late," Matt said as he approached the newest member of his senior staff," I hope you trip back to Assailant was relaxing because the Jefferson always has a knack of finding trouble."
(Pride)
Knowing that he would not be able to please everyone he served with, Matt was working hard to have a great relationship with every member of his senior staff. He knew that without their cooperation, trust, and understanding his stint as a captain would not be a long one. Not wanting to seem to formal or rigid, Matt asked Commander Pride to join him on the bridge.
"I hope she lives up to your expectations, Commander," Matt said as he turned his attention to Megan, who seemed deep in thought," a penny for you thought Commander?"
(Megan)
"Please tell the senior staff that for the time being Starbase 47 is off limits," Matt said as he took the center seat," Fleet Admiral Elron has been assassinated and the Vesuvius has been detained for questioning. I will need to speak to Nathan, his sister Commodore Sonak is considered a suspect."
(Megan)
"Have we received our mission orders yet? I saw an incoming transmission, but I didn't check it," Matt asked hoping that a new mission would take his mind off the situation on Starbase 47.
(Megan)
"Megan, I was thinking about doing something and I need you advice," Matt said a bit quieter than normal," it concerns J'Varr."

Back on the bridge, Megan was somewhat on edge. She would feel much better once Captain Reynolds got the orders for the mission. Right now, the First Officer knew far too much that her commanding officer didn’t, and that made her nervous. In spite of the black ops connections, this mission didn’t seem too unusual for the Jefferson to receive as an assignment given their doctor’s association, but it was still unnerving to second guess everything for potentially looking suspicious. This was going to be far more stressful and difficult than Commander Garrett predicted. "A penny for you thoughts, Commander?" Captain Reynolds’s voice said nearby.
Startled, Megan glanced over at Matt and quickly smiled. “I’m just very eager to get underway,” she replied smoothly, keeping her answers short and demeanor calm.
"Please tell the senior staff that for the time being Starbase 47 is off limits. Fleet Admiral Elron has been assassinated and the Vesuvius has been detained for questioning. I will need to speak to Nathan; his sister, Commodore Sonak, is considered a suspect,” the Captain informed Megan as he took his seat next to her.
Even more startled by this news, Megan stared at him in shock for a moment, quickly digesting the information. It was hard to imagine this being a coincidence. The potential ramifications were spinning around at a rapid pace, and suddenly the Commander needed to speak with Admiral LaPage, immediately. “I will inform the senior officers,” she replied, once again keeping it short and sticking to the topic.
"Have we received our mission orders yet? I saw an incoming transmission, but I didn't check it," Matt asked, and for a moment, Megan felt sure she’d already been found out. The transmission from Admiral LaPage had been secure, buried deep in the recesses of the computer and ship’s systems before any trace was erased.
Quickly pretending to see something interesting on her screen stationed between the Captain’s and First Officer’s chair, Megan accessed an engineering report. “I certainly hope we get our orders soon. Repairs are nearly complete,” Commander Garrett managed to respond, hoping somehow he would automatically assume the transmission had been personal and move on to something else...anything else...
Leaning forward, Captain Reynolds lowered his voice, and in a split second, she was absolutely convinced her cover was blown. "Megan, I was thinking about doing something and I need you advice. It concerns J'Varr,” Matt said quietly, and following a brief moment of total confusion, pure relief came flooding instead.
“I’d be happy to offer my advice. What is this concerning?” Megan asked, almost cheerfully given her perceived close call. In truth, she was probably being overly paranoid and cautious, but Commander Garrett was far too relieved to really care. As the Captain presented his desire to appoint someone as second officer in her stead and his belief that Commander T’Ress was the best option, the First Officer regained her composure, refocused her thoughts, and nodded at the right times.
“I agree; Commander T’Ress is the best candidate for the position,” Megan replied, smiling slightly. “In fact, this promotion is well earned. I can’t think of anyone who is more deserving than our Chief Engineer,” she added sincerely in strong support.

Meanwhile, a nicely settled in Ensign Garrett sauntered down the corridor feeling quite pleased with her decision to join the crew of the Jefferson. Already, she had been on several dates and had numerous more invitations, and that made her one happy girl. The rejection of Major Johnson still bothered her quite a bit, but the new security officer was trying to focus on the positive and not think about that. Clearly, it was his loss. She was on her way to the lounge, just to hang out and see who else she could meet, when at an intersection, she nearly ran into two other officers.
“Oh, I’m sorry. Excuse me,” Marina said politely, immediately sizing up the two. One was too old, but the other was positively adorable, AND in a Marine’s uniform. Not only did she like Marines, but that also meant this man was Cyle’s subordinate. She had only been able to make out a few words before the near collision, but it sounded like they’d been talking about work. “Hello...I don’t believe I’ve met either of you before.” Smiling her most charming smile, the security officer held out her hand towards the young Marine, but was careful not to be so exclusive of the other man as to be rude. “I’m Marina Garrett; I just transferred here. It is a pleasure to make your acquaintances,” she introduced herself, hoping to learn the hottie’s name.

Looking at the Captain " I promise to make sure I dont crash the ship Captain, as for the Jefferson getting into trouble she share's that trait with the U.S.S. Scavenger. So I'm use it dont worry about that." He followed the captain on to the bridge and took his station his un packing would have to wait for awhile. As he took his seat and looked at the read outs the warp engines were off line.

Jayden let go of Nathan's hand as a girl collided right into them, then reached out to steady her. The girl beamed at them, then seemed to size them up. Nathan stood tall and dignified, his hands clasped behind his back as he watched his partner settle the girl. He didn't miss the looks she was giving the marine, but wisely said nothing, for now.
Jayden straightened his uniform jacket, then glanced at the doctor to see if he was all right. "Nice to meet you, Ensign Marina Garrett," he said, then motioned over to his companion. "This is Doctor Nathan van Breughel and I'm Lance Corporal Jayden Mitchell. Were you on your way to the bridge?"
Nathan grimaced at the beaming smile the marine received from the girl. "Jayden, we should go," he persisted, reaching out. "I'm sure miss Garrett has other duties to attend to?" He didn't want the girl to remain in their company.
Casting the human a sharp glance, Jayden's expression tightened. He could just sense the strange feelings coming from the doctor, yet the girl seemed innocent enough. Or was she? Now, he took a good look at her, allowing himself to sense her emotions. He smiled uncomfortably at her, before taking a step back, allowing Nathan to take his hand and drag him along. "So long Marina, and welcome aboard the Jefferson."
Once they were out of range, Jayden turned on Nathan. "What was that all about? Are you jealous?" He studied the Human's grim expression, then laughed heartily. "My dear Nathan, there's nothing to be jealous about. Trust me!"
"Let's go to the bridge," Nathan returned curtly, "I need to send that message." A little later, the two stepped onto the bridge, quietly talking again. "Ah, Captain Reynolds. I need a favour..." He faltered, seeing the grim and worried expression on the captain's face. "Something wrong?" he queried, taking out his tricorder, flipping it open and holding it out to his captain, taking a quick scan.
"I'm afraid that it concerns your sister, Commodore Reckus," Matt said as he motioned for the doctor to stop scanning him," until further notice all communications to and from Section 47 and the Vesuvius is banned. Your sister is a prime suspect in the assasination of Fleet Admiral Elron. Before you ask, you will not be able to contact your sister. Only flag officers are allowed communications with the station."

Nathan nodded sadly. "I have spoken with my father, who has just departed the Jefferson. He alerted me to the incident and I had come up here to request permission to contact her. Would you keep me updated if there is any more news?"
"I'll do my best, but please understand that until things get cleared up we won't hear anything about your sister," Matt said not really happy that he was having this conversation in the middle of the bridge," I don't know your sister but I do know the man who is leading the investigation. He won't rest until he finds the real person responsible for the admiral's death."
The doctor nodded, feeling Jayden reach out for him. "Understood captain," he answered, knowing full well that an investigation could take a long time. "Have you uncovered any information about the girl in my sickbay?"
Keeping one ear trained on the coversation between the Captain and doctor, Megan was feeling a bit....out of place. Here were people who sincerely wanted to know what was going on, needed to know, and she couldn't tell them. Accessing her computer terminal, Commander Garrett searched for any important transmissions to Captain Reynolds and was relieved to find their orders had indeed come through.
"Sir," Megan interrupted. "It appears that our orders have come through." Pretending to briefly scan the transmission, the Commander added, "We've been tasked to further investigate the incident with Nathan's daughter and her mother. It seems similar occurances have been investigated recently, and it's part of a pattern. We have some additional information, but we're mostly working from scratch. Whoever is behind this has been very careful, so there's very little to go on. I've seen some preliminary reports, but security was unable to track the person who killed the girl, and the trail went dead from there."
"Well at least it gives us a start," Matt said as he turned to face Nathan once again. Even though he was going to be worried about his sister, he knew that finding out how his daughter came to being would keep his mind occupied," Commander I would like to have a senior staff meeting within an hour."

Glad that he would be able to help out his chief medical officer discover the truth about the birth of his daughter, Matthew Reynolds read over the mission brief that had been sent to him by Starfleet Command. Understanding that helping out Nathan was going to be an added bonus from this mission, Matt realized that Starfleet Command wanted these people captured and stop them from blackmailing any other powerful people.
"Computer has the young woman in the morgue been identified?" Matt asked hoping to give the poor girl a proper burial.
"Negative"
"Computer access Assailant's computer and verify how long the young woman was on board the station," Matt asked. Knowing that it would take the computer a minute or two to get all the data, Matt took the time to reflect on everything that had happened in the last few days. He was made commanding officer of the USS Jefferson, a former squadron flagship. His long time girlfriend and him were planning on taking their relationship to the next level, and he was finally able to meet his brother's children. These things were great but he knew that if anything went wrong it would be on his shoulders. He wasn't fully convince that his appointed to commanding officer was warranted, but he was going to give it his all.
"She was on the starbase three months and twenty five days."
"Someone has to know her," Matt thought out loud. Even on a station as big as Assailant, people would notice a pregnant woman."Computer please inform Admiral Lin that we will be conducting an investigation on board the Jefferson. We'll need access to personal files and to members of his staff."
Matt knew that his crew was ready to get underway, but that would have to wait for a few days. He was positive that some of the answers they were looking for were on Assailant. Hopefully the people responsible for Nathan's new baby were still on the starbase and if they were he wanted to question them there.
"Commander Garrett are you ready to begin the staff briefing?" Matt asked ready to being a brand new chapter in the glorious history of the USS Jefferson.

Nathan's eyes widened in surprise upon hearing there had been more incidents. "I'd like to see the reports on the incidents, if I may commander," he requested softly, before falling silent to listen to his captain issue new orders to everyone. "Am I invited to your staff meeting?" he then asked, knowing it wasn't a given that he attended as he was, after all, not starfleet and therefor not always deemed 'need to know'.
Beside him, Jayden remained silent, just listening to the orders given and to his partner talking to the captain. Nathan's response to him talking to the security girl bothered him a little, even though it flattered him as well. He'd see if it was just a brief flare of jealousy or whether the emotion he received would persist.
Once Nathan received the answers to his questions, the two left the bridge, and once they entered the corridor where their quarters lay, they came across the girl a second time. "Oh hello again Marina," Jayden called to her, waving as he smiled brightly, "have you been able to find your quarters all right?" He made a point of rolling his eyes. "I thought this ship was a right maze when I first got here, didn't you as well Nathan?"
Eyes narrowing, Nathan nodded grimly. "I'm going inside, are you coming Jayden? I need to feed Angelique again and dad'll probably want to come by again soon. Since we're still here, I think dad would like to spend some time aboard and meet a few of my friends."
"I'll be right along," Jayden answered, smiling slyly. "Invite your dad for dinner? I think he'll like that, though would you please include some meat for my part? I'm not ready to turn vegetarian just yet." He turned back to the girl. "So, security here?" he asked her as he walked up to her. "Want me to show you to the security chief's office? I wouldn't want you to get lost...."
Nathan's scowl deepened, but he made no verbal comment on seeing Jayden flirt with the girl. It nagged him, especially now that they were bringing their relationship to a next level. "Don't be too long," he warned as he headed home.
Jayden sighed once the doors closed but his smile remained. "What do you think so far? Oh...don't forget to report in for your physical in the morning...Nathan gets really cranky if people don't report in on time. And I'll bet he'll be cranky regardless, even though Angelique is a faily quiet baby."

"I'd like to see the reports on the incidents, if I may, Commander," Nathan requested quietly, before pausing and eventually adding. "Am I invited to your staff meeting?"
Megan could understand the man’s interest, as well as his concerns, so she replied, “I won’t be able to tell you everything, but I’ll provide you with as much as I can, Doctor. And yes, you may attend the meeting. I’ll try to keep you informed as well.”
As the doctor left and Captain Reynolds read the orders, Megan began her work on compiling most of the information gathered so far, the parts that weren’t being kept classified that is. Megan had already sent out a message to the senior staff calling for a meeting in forty-five minutes to accommodate the current repairs and allow Commander T’Ress to be present without having to abandon his work in the middle. Commander Garrett’s mind still dwelled on the report about Commodore Sonak Reckus and Admiral Elron’s death. Could it be possible that the blackmail was already completed and successful in bringing about the Admiral’s death? The suggestion seemed highly unlikely, but the timing was very hard to ignore entirely.
"Commander Garrett, are you ready to begin the staff briefing?" the Captain asked.
“I scheduled the briefing for forty minutes from now,” Megan replied. “Commander T’Ress was just finishing up a repair, and I wanted to give him time to complete it, and I’ve already sent a message to the rest of the senior officers informing them of the meeting. I’m working on compiling everything we have so far as we speak.”

"Nice to meet you, Ensign Marina Garrett. This is Doctor Nathan van Breughel, and I'm Lance Corporal Jayden Mitchell. Were you on your way to the bridge?" the absolutely adorable Marine asked politely, and Marina practically beamed at him.
“Actually, I was just heading out to the Lounge to just hang out, get a drink...” she began, but then doctor...whoever...didn’t seem particularly pleased and interrupted.
"Jayden, we should go. I'm sure Miss Garrett has other duties to attend to?" the doctor insisted. Marina simply couldn’t understand what was going on or why this medical officer was so upset, as he glared at the cute Marine, Jayden, pointedly.
Even the Marine looked somewhat confused, and also a bit uncomfortable, but he didn’t argue one bit as he was dragged off. "So long Marina, and welcome aboard the Jefferson,” the gorgeous, retreating Marine threw over his shoulder as he left.
Frowning after them, the security officer felt her spirits sink once more. That made two guys who hadn’t jumped at the opportunity to spend more time with her. What was wrong with her? True, he was probably busy or on duty, maybe he was even in a relationship, hence that guy’s disapproval and dragging him off like that, but it still stung, especially after what had happened with Cyle. This didn’t happen to her...
Suddenly disenchanted with the idea of going out, Marina turned on her heel and headed back for her quarters. Disillusioned and discouraged, the young officer’s shoulders slumped as she dragged her feet back to her room, dumping her purse on a chair and dropping into another one. Two rejections already... Officers may be cute in their uniforms, but these career-focused types were starting to get to her. It was as if the world didn’t work the same way anymore, and she wasn’t as young and attractive anymore. These sorts of thoughts were devastating to the poor girl.
Kicking off her high heeled shoes and walking back towards the bedroom, Marina shuffled over the clothes already scattered across the floor towards the full length mirror. Tilting her head to the side, she surveyed her appearance. Her shoulder-length, brown hair with blonde highlights was gently curled, and her makeup was perfect. Silver and pink jade accessories all matched, black, fitted pants, bold pink, purple and black geometric halter top looked great...add shoes and purse, and she was a holo-image out of a replicator catalog. There was nothing wrong with her, so something must be wrong with them. “Yeah...that must be it...” she commented to herself, suddenly cheering up and moving to retrieve her shoes and purse again.
Halfway down the hallway, the Ensign was stunned to hear someone call her name, and turning saw the same two men. "Oh hello again Marina," Jayden called out while waving to her, and he was smiling so brightly, the security officer suddenly felt a whole lot better, and waving back, moved to meet him...them... “Have you been able to find your quarters all right? I thought this ship was a right maze when I first got here, didn't you as well Nathan?" the Marine asked, including his friend.
Nathan for his part didn’t look happy at all to see her there and simply nodded. “I'm going inside, are you coming Jayden? I need to feed Angelique again and dad will probably want to come by again soon. Since we're still here, I think dad would like to spend some time aboard and meet a few of my friends,” the doctor said grumpily.
"I'll be right along," Jayden answered, leading Marina to think perhaps these two were brothers until the Marine continued. "Invite your dad for dinner? I think he'll like that, though would you please include some meat for my part? I'm not ready to turn vegetarian just yet." Turning his back on a still scowling doctor, he moved a little closer. "So, security here? Want me to show you to the security chief's office? I wouldn't want you to get lost…” he added, and Marina’s heart fluttered slightly.
Marina didn’t even heard Nathan’s reply as she beamed up at her newest crush. “I know where it is, actually, but it is so sweet of you to offer. It’s nice meeting an old-fashioned gentleman who knows how to treat a girl,” she flirted back, happily.
"What do you think so far? Oh...don't forget to report in for your physical in the morning. Nathan gets really cranky if people don't report in on time,” he warned. “And I bet he'll be cranky regardless, even though Angelique is a fairly quiet baby."
“He does seem rather…grumpy,” Marina agreed, though her mind was still trying to process the ‘clues’ so far. Clearly they had to be related somehow, but couldn’t be brothers because Nathan’s father wasn’t Jayden’s. It was all rather confusing, and the security officer hated feeling out of the loop like she was missing something. “And he’s awfully bossy, telling you what to do like he owns you or something. He reminds me of my sister, actually. She’s bossy too, but she is the first officer here.”

Saddened that he wouldn't be able to start the staff briefing immediately, Matthew Reynolds decided that it would be a good time as any to roam the ship. He knew that repairs were still going on, but he wanted everyone to know that he was more than willing to help any way he could. He easily remembered the countless hours of toiling away on damaged systems.
"Commander you have the bridge," Matt said as he rose from the center seat and headed towards the lift," in a few minutes you should be receiving a message from Lily. She's the sentient computer on board Assailant. She's a bit unusual but she's very helpful."
(Megan)
Remembering how he had reacted when he first met Lily, Matt couldn't help but smile. Megan was a little bit to serious for her age and Lily would pick up on that rather quickly. ~I wonder if she will like her?~ Matt thought as the lift doors closed in front of him.
Even though he was still the same person, Matt knew that things on the Jefferson had now changed forever. As captain he was not going to be able to do the things he had done as a regular officer. His relationship with Kristin was important to him and he already knew that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her, but as captain he had to remember that his relationship could not interfere with his command decisions. As captain he was always on the job which meant that his time with Caleb might suffer. Matt had promised himself that this would not happen, but he knew full well that the life of a Starfleet captain was not easy.
"Captain, are you going somewhere?" Crewman Jonas asked," you've been standing there for a while now."
"Um yes, I was just thinking," Matt said as he offered Crewman Jonas a big smile," how have you been Don?"
"Great sir! Thanks for asking," Don Jonas said surprised that Matt knew his name.
As Matt stepped out of the lift, he was pleased to see Nathan walking towards him. He was surprised to see that Jayden was not next to him.
"Where is....?" Matt started to say before he saw Jayden and an unfamiliar ensign talking. Matt couldn't help but laugh as he noticed Nathan's sour mood," Nathan you don't have to be worried. Jayden loves you and I don't really think that young ensign is his type. Now if he was flirting with me you might have to worry. By the way, next time your father comes on board you better introduce me to him."
(Nathan)
Wanting to meet this new security officer, Matt approached the two of them. For some reason the young woman looked oddly familiar and he remembered that Megan's sister was now an officer on the Jefferson. Matt had to admit that she was an attractive woman, but he also sensed that there was more to her than just a flirtatious woman. ~Just like her sister~ Matt thought before he made his presence known.
"Welcome aboard Ensign Garrett, I'm sorry that I wasn't able to meet you when you came on board, but I'm sure that your sister was a suitable replacement," Matt said giving her a welcoming smile.

Looking around and seeing the the concerned look on everybody face on the recent events. He started to wonder that maybe the crew was jumping to conclusion already about what was happening. He had heard the order about the staff meeting and saw that warp drive would be back on line shortly. Still he was concerned that the crew was jumping to a conclusion with out any proof.
Commander Megan seemed to know more then what she appeared, the Captain seemed to be emotional involved with the issue. He had been away from the fleet along time but things just didn't seem right it didn't make sense to many unanswered question. Keeping quite until he knew better he thought the briefing would decided if he should say anything or keep quite. This was a new ship and he didn't really know anybody yet so he felt like a outsider looking in want to join.

After conferring with Commander T'ress, Valad and D'Etora left endineering and walked along the corridor. "We need to get that thing analyzed. When you get a chance work with Commander T'Ress on it." They reached a turbolift. "Deck 1," ordered Valad. He looked at D'Etora.
"Deck 6." She seemed to be distant from the ship. They continued up through the turbo shaft. The doors opened and D'Etora stepped out.
"Good work, D'Etora." She stopped, turned around to look at him, smiled, and said, 'Thank you sir."
He wished she didn't have to be so formal with him. He continued on. As he traveled upward he looked at the padd he had been carrying to make sure he knew everything to report to Commander Garrett, but then he stopped. ~I'm about to give my first report. I hope I don't mess this up.~ He continued and the turbolift came to a halt. The doors opened to reveal the bridge once again.
He walked through the turbolift doors, padd in hand and started walking over to the captain's chair. He passed Lieutenant Quindara and said, "Lieutenant, could you give me a report on the results of the diagnostics at your next convenience."
(tag Monica)
He continued on to the first officer. "Commander, I have the first report on repairs." He took a breath before continuing. "We sealed most of the breaches of the nacelle hull, but we need to send repair teams to the outside to fix the big ruptures. Also, Commander T'Ress will be shutting down the starboard nacelle to repair the plasma conduits and warp coils."
(tag Megan)
"There is also another matter you should know about." His face became serious. "Crewman Maron found some sort of metal object down at the end of the nacelle. I had Commander T'Ress look at it, but at first glance he couldn't make anything of it. He is still analyzing it now."

Jayden looked back over his shoulder to where Nathan was now talking to Captain Reynolds, still looking less than happy. Even more so now he was stalled from entering his quarters to care for his daughter. Turning back, he gazed at Marina. "If you had been through what he's been through recently, you'd be grumpy too," he told her, not unkindly, "and he's protective, hardly bossy. One would expect protectiveness from one's partner, wouldn't we?"
The young marine gazed at her in earnest, his expression open and honest. "I hope you weren't trying to ah...flirt with me? I apologise if I gave you the idea that I was flirting with you, because I was not. I'd like to be your friend but that's all there is, I'm sorry." Now, he nodded back at where Nathan was stood. "I'm afraid he's not my brother as you assumed. Again I apologise but your thoughts were easy to pick up. I'm half Betazoid."
This time, he sighed uncomfortably. "I'm afraid the dear doctor is my partner." Seeing her hurt expression, he sighed yet again. "I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings, but it's always best to be honest." Quietly, he awaited the young woman's response.
"What makes you think I'm worried?" Nathan answered irritably, though his feelings were plain to see. "I just don't like it much that he's flirting with her, is that so strange?" He did smile a little at Matt's next words. "Yes, I'd be worried then, were it not that I know you have a girlfriend. And my father will be back in a few hours. Why don't you and Caleb come by for dinner tonight? Bring your girlfriend too. My father would be pleased to meet a few of my friends."
His smile brightened. "I am very much relieved that he approves of Jayden. Now, if you would excuse me, I really need to get inside and take care of my children. I am on duty in an hour, and I expect everyone to report for their pre-mission medical check-ups." Now he gave Matt a pointed look. "Captains and first officers are not excluded on that order, sir," he added, as if in afterthought.
As Lily, SBA's sentient computer Lily knew she had a report to deliver to the first officer of the starship Jefferson, but she loathed doing so. She was just getting used to her new abilities but her routines told her that she had to deliver the report.
Usually, she wouldn't have a problem whatsoever but since she also enjoyed the free time she too had earned similar to any starfleet officer, she didn't want to deliver reports when she was on her own time.
However, she recognised the importance of the report, and as such she transferred herself, in holographic form, to the bridge of the USS Jefferson. As such, a slim blueish girl with purple hair appeared on the bridge, right in front of Commander Garrett. "Hello commander, I have the report that you asked for, in regards to the shooting earlier on the starbase. Would you like me to download it into the computer for you, or transferred to a PADD?"
Lily sized the commander up, though she kept her comments to herself. She did, however store what she learned into her own memory core, for possible later reference in dealing with the woman again. So far, the woman was *nothing but professional and Lily could see there was more to her than met the eye. "Give my regards to Captain Reynolds. Tell him I am well and whole again. He'll understand."

"Commander, you have the bridge. In a few minutes, you should be receiving a message from Lily. She's the sentient computer on board Assailant. She's a bit unusual, but she's very helpful," Matt said as he stood and headed for the turbolift.
“Aye, Sir,” Megan replied. She was aware of Lily, but other than the mere fact of her existence, she knew very little about her. Commander Garrett had never really been a fan of computers with minds of their own, especially since her first mission aboard the Jefferson with the fighters, but she was aware there were exceptions to this general dislike. Still, receiving a message didn’t seem like such a bad thing.
A few minutes later, however, Megan was startled at the sudden appearance of a young girl of an unfamiliar race, and her hand flew straight to her belt where her small, type one phaser was concealed. "Hello, Commander, I have the report that you asked for, in regards to the shooting earlier on the starbase. Would you like me to download it into the computer for you, or transferred to a PADD?" the new arrival spoke. Her voice was calm and pleasant and matched her appearance well.
Exhaling sharply, as her alarm dissipated, Megan regathered her thoughts and replied, “You can just download it into the computer. Thank you…Lily.” Beginning to calm down now, the first officer smiled at the holographic image. Just because she was an artificial intelligence was no reason to be rude, and she did seem to be pleasant enough. Besides, Commander Garrett had always, even as a child, been very polite to everyone, including holograms, so being nice was just second nature.
“You’re welcome,” the holographic girl responded, smiling in return before blinking out of sight. Sighing, but still smiling, Megan turned her attention back to her console where the report was now displayed. Lily seemed to be very nice, and since she had actually started out as a ‘regular person’ there was no doubting her sentience, but of course, this also meant that like any other person, her intentions were hard to gauge for certain. But first impressions did matter, and in this case were positive.
Glancing quickly through the concise yet complete report, Megan took note of the few previously unconfirmed details. While the basic information remained the same, sensor records were more specific and comprehensive, showing her arrival to the station on a civilian transport and following the few, dead-end trails of movement aboard Assailant before her attempt to contact Nathan and her subsequent murder. Lily had included quite a few details from the transport, even tracing her original point of origin from the flight plan and navigational records. All in all, the sentient computer had been very helpful, though there were still plenty of mysteries to solve.
"Commander, I have the first report on repairs. We sealed most of the breaches of the nacelle hull, but we need to send repair teams to the outside to fix the ruptures. Also, Commander T'Ress will be shutting down the starboard nacelle to repair the plasma conduits and warp coils,” Ensign Tavik reported while handing her a padd.
Nodding and quickly scanning the contents of the padd, Megan was about to just acknowledge the good work and tell them to keep it up, when the operations chief continued. "There is also another matter you should know about. Crewman Maron found some sort of metal object down at the end of the nacelle. I had Commander T'Ress take a look at it, but at first glance he couldn't make anything of it. He is still analyzing it now,” Valad reported, his face reflecting the seriousness of the issue.
This entirely captured her attention, as Commander Garrett’s eyes flew to meet the new Ensign’s. “What was its general size? Were there any power readings and how high? What was your general impression of its function, if you had to guess as to its purpose? Did Commander T’Ress give any indication of his impression as well?” Suddenly realizing she hadn’t even given him a chance to respond to any of her questions, Megan jumped to her feet, already moving towards the lift the moment her feet hit the deck. “I need to see it myself. You’re with me, Ensign. Commander Pride, you have the bridge. If Captain Reynolds arrives before I return, inform him Ensign Tavik, Commander T’Ress, and I might be slightly delayed to the meeting.”

"If you had been through what he's been through recently, you'd be grumpy too, and he’s protective, hardly bossy. One would expect protectiveness from one's partner, wouldn't we?" Jayden asked, resulting in another, far briefer moment of confusion.
‘Partner...? ….……Oh…….…’ Now, Marina was beginning to really understand…
"I hope you weren't trying to ah...flirt with me? I apologize if I gave you the idea that I was flirting with you, because I was not. I’d like to be your friend but that's all there is, I'm sorry. I'm afraid he's not my brother as you assumed. Again I apologize, but your thoughts were easy to pick up. I'm half Betazoid. I'm afraid the dear doctor is my partner. I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings, but it's always best to be honest," the quickly becoming less adorable Marine finished, clearly feeling quite uncomfortable.
Suddenly shifting into a far more serious mood, Marina closed her mind off as much as possible, as she’d been trained to do when dealing with telepathic species in her work, and smiled wanly. “That’s perfectly alright, Corporal. Honest mistake and a simple misunderstanding; that’s all,” she replied, clearly upset but attempting to pretend to be fine. “No, no, I’m fine, really. It’s perfectly understandable. It was just a miscommunication,” she assured him, waving off any further attempts at comfort.
<Tag Jayden>
Luckily, at that moment, just when Marina really needed it, a handsome…oooo a Captain!...walked in their direction, smiling right at her. "Welcome aboard, Ensign Garrett, I'm sorry I wasn't able to meet you when you came on board, but I'm sure that your sister was a suitable replacement," he greeted her offering a friendly smile.
Incredibly grateful for this rescue, especially by a cute superior, the only person on this ship to outrank her sister, Marina blinked twice to clear any trace of tears from her eyes and beamed at Captain Reynolds. “That’s quite alright, Captain, though I certainly wouldn’t have complained if you had managed to greet me when I arrived. To be fair, even Megan didn’t manage to be there to welcome me, as I sort of snuck aboard under her nose to surprise her, and at the time, I wasn’t even assigned to the Jefferson. But I’m very happy to be here, Sir,” the security officer replied cheerfully, allowing herself if not forcing herself to be distracted and to forget about Jayden.

Valad walked off the bridge with Commander Garrett. It was quite obvious to him that she was preoccupied, but he figured it was just the pressure of being the first officer. The first officer had a lot of reponsibilities on a Federation starship. They not only took command when the Captain was not around, but they acted as a go-between with the crew and the Captain.
"Commander, there was something else about that object that I didn't want to say on the bridge. Crewman Maron t first glance thought it resembled a type II phaser but she couldn't be sure." Valad looked serious.
(tag Megan)
"I'm not saying we have an intruder on the ship Commander, but it might not be a bad idea to have a security team take a look around the ship, just in case."
As they made their way down to engineering, Valad discussed some of the minor repair and upgrade issues. "Do we carry transphasic torpedoes Commander? I've heard rumors that they are very useful in getting out of a pickle."

Looking at Commander Megan " Understood Commander I will inform the captian if he arrives before your return" He was a little shocked by being put in charge on his first day he was more then trainned for it had been a acting first officer before. He was just a little taken back most Command officer took a few days to get to know you. It appeared though what ever they found was a major concern for the commander.
Looking around the bridge he thought it might be a good idea to check the ships systems. Clearing this throat because he didn't know these people yet. " It might be a good idea for every body to check there systems to see if anything esle seems a stray. I dont care how small if you get something I want to know about" <tag anybody>

"Just means that your sister was caught off guard and that is pretty hard to do," Matt said already starting to feel like a third wheel. Even though he was uncomfortable, as captain it was his obligation to get to know his officers. The younger Garrett was totally different than her older sister. Matt had just met her, but he could already tell that Marina Garrett was not shy about letting her feelings be known," if Jayden doesn't mind, I would like to give you the grand tour. The staff meeting should not be starting for another thirty minutes or so."
(Jayden)
"Ensign why don't you tell me more about yourself?" Matt said as he led them deeper into the security department. Matt had hoped that his new chief security officer would have arrived by now, but it seemed that the personal department had other ideas. An Acting Ensign Kasumi Yang had been sent to the Jefferson, but they had not arrived yet.
(Marina)
"Please know that, I'm here to help you anyway I can," Matt said as both of them entered the armorary," though I assume you would perfer speaking to your sister with your needs on the ship?"

"Understood Commander, I will inform the Captain if he arrives before your return," Commander Pride replied. Megan didn’t really know their new helmsman, but she was familiar with his service history, and his rank and record spoke for themselves.
Ensign Tavik followed her without question to the lift, but once the doors closed and she requested engineering, he spoke. “Commander, there was something else about that object, that I didn't want to say on the bridge. Crewman Maron, at first glance, thought it resembled a type two phaser, but she couldn't be sure,” Valad reported, the serious look on his face as the operations officer said this very clear. A weapon...that changed everything, and Commander Garrett’s mind began to spin at a rapid pace, as he continued. "I'm not saying we have an intruder on the ship, Commander, but it might not be a bad idea to have a security team take a look around the ship, just in case,” he suggested, and Megan agreed with him entirely, but first, she wanted to take a look at this device herself, confirm their suspicions.
As the lift traveled towards Engineering, Valad continued to discuss repair details and issues, and while she was listening and even responding with her comments, questions, and answers, her mind was firmly fixed on other things, mainly the new mission and this unexpected, unknown device. "Do we carry transphasic torpedoes, Commander? I've heard rumors that they’re very useful in getting out of a pickle."
“The Jefferson has the capability to fire them and a very small compliment onboard, but there are very few of them, and they’re not often used,” Megan replied somewhat absentmindedly as the doors opened and the officers headed to main engineering, where they found Commander T’Ress examining a device that, unfortunately, the First Officer recognized immediately. Keeping quiet and hiding her recognition, the Commander glanced up at J’Varr. “What have you discovered so far, Commander?”
<Tag J’Varr>
Nodding but not really paying that much attention, Commander Garrett weighed her new discovery with what she knew already and concocted a plan of action all while the engineer spoke. “Good work, Commander. I’d like the device placed in a small storage container. I want security to take a closer look at it. I’ll take it there myself. Excuse me for a moment,” Megan requested, as she stepped to a quiet corner of Engineering, tapped her commbadge, and lowered her voice. “Garret to security.”
=/\=Orlov here, Ma’am=/\= the voice of the acting head of security replied quickly.
“Ensign, I want you to conduct a full security sweep of the Jefferson and check the sensor records for anything out of the ordinary since we docked,” the Commander requested quietly. “Try to be as inconspicuous as possible, Ensign, Garrett out.”
Closing the channel, Megan composed her expression, so as not to look worried, and crossed back over to the waiting Caitian and human officers. “Thank you,” she stated, smiling slight as she took the weapon, in a container as requested. “The briefing should begin shortly. Commander T’Ress, supervise the completion of the hull repairs and report to the conference room with a report in half an hour.”
<Tag J’Varr>
Turning back to Valad, the First Officer continued. “Ensign Tavik, I want you to do something for me before the briefing. I need you to pull up records of everyone who came and went from the Jefferson since we docked at Assailant. I want a compiled report on each person not a member of the Jefferson’s crew: when and where they came aboard, how long they stayed, and when and where they disembarked. Focus on civilians first then move onto Starfleet personnel. Then I want you to pull up sensor records and track their movements, cross referencing them with their stated reason for being onboard as best you can. I realize that the last part will take longer than thirty minutes, so just bring what you have so far to the meeting.”
<Tag Valad>
Exiting engineering, Megan made her way into the corridor where she tapped her commbadge again. “Garrett to Major Johnson, I want you to mobilize the Marines and have them conduct a thorough yet subtle search of the Jefferson. Security is doing the same, but I want all our bases covered. Have them look for anything or anyone unusual. I know it won’t be complete before the briefing, so just get them underway and then report to the meeting,” she ordered, stepping onto a turbolift.
<Tag Cyle>

"Just means that your sister was caught off guard and that’s pretty hard to do," Matt replied. Marina could see he was uncomfortable and probably wondering what was going on between her and Jayden, but the last thing the Ensign wanted him to do was leave, so she tried to pretend like everything was fine and to keep him there.
“You’re telling me... Megan always likes to be prepared for everything, thinks of all sorts of possible outcomes and contingencies, so it’s almost impossible to surprise her, but it can be done if that’s your objective. You just have to set your mind to it.”
"If Jayden doesn't mind, I would like to give you the grand tour. The staff meeting should not be starting for another thirty minutes or so," the Captain offered, and the security officer almost literally jumped at the chance, and cut Jayden off entirely.
“Oh, of course he doesn’t mind! We were just finished talking. He was concerned that I was lost and needed to know where the security office was, but I didn’t need any help.” Turning to Jayden, speaking to him but not really looking him in the eye, Marina continued. “Thanks for offering to help. It was nice of you. Have a good day.”
<Tag Jayden>
As they walked away, Marina wasn’t about to tell Matt that she’d already received a tour…well three to be honest. She wasn’t about to risk losing this opportunity to spend time with someone that important, even though her sister had mentioned he had a girlfriend. "Ensign why don't you tell me more about yourself?" he asked as they moved to the security department, a place she was quite familiar with now.
“Well...” she replied, tilting her head slightly to the side as she debated how to sum up ‘more about herself’ to the Captain. “Megan’s my sister, obviously, but we never really spent much time together growing up. We are very different people, as you can probably tell,” Marina added, grinning at Matt almost to emphasize the point. “I wanted to have fun and enjoy my life, while she always just wanted to study and practice and work... Don’t get me wrong, those things are important, and I worked and studied hard too, but I don’t think that’s all there is to life. You work hard to play hard right?” the young woman stated, grinning again and laughing at her little joke.
“Anyway, I wanted to work to make some money. Replicated clothes are fine, but so boring, and I wanted some freedom. So I looked at available jobs and decided that if the purpose of working was to be able to buy stuff, I should just work where those things were and save some time, so I started working in a shopping mall in a clothing store. I got great discounts too. One day, a guy tried to steal something, and I caught him. Mall security took an interest in me, and then, I was working for security. I would pretend to be a shopper while watching those around me looking for people trying to take stuff and then alert security and help them apprehend the suspect. I had a gift for it, enjoyed it as well. I set records for successful catches.”
Glancing sideways to see if he ever cared to hear any of this, Marina decided he did and continued. “Eventually mall security passed my name onto local security, so I went to their academy and became a security officer. I traveled to a few cities in that job and wanted to build my resume, so I started taking classes at Starfleet Academy. It turns out with my previous education, soon I was almost well trained enough to be a Starfleet officer, so I took the necessary classes, and graduated a few months ago. I didn’t know for sure what I wanted to do, so I used the vacation time I’d earned, did some traveling, and stopped here to see my big sister. I liked it here and decided that I wanted to try for a ship tour of duty, and so here I am!”
Smiling a little sheepishly for going on so much, the security officer tried to act a bit more professionally. “And I’m very happy to be here, Sir. It’s all just somewhat new to me, but I am sure I will adjust to life aboard the Jefferson in no time at all.”
"Please know that I'm here to help you anyway I can," the Captain offered, as the two of them entered the armory. “Though I assume you would prefer speaking to your sister with your needs on the ship?" he added, smiling but looking uncertain.
Rolling her eyes slightly, Marina laughed. “It would probably be easier just talking to you. Meg is so ‘serious’ and ‘professional’ I sometimes thinks she was adopted from Vulcan. In fact, I used to accuse her of that all the time growing up. I would often say, ‘you did a good job on your ears, but I bet if I cut you, you would ble…”
“…Bleed green,” Megan finished, raising her eyebrows at her younger sister, in a disapproving, and yes, slightly Vulcan manner. Marina went pale and then blushed.
“Uh...hi Meg, uh Commander...Megan...Garrett...” Marina stuttered before looking desperately to Matt for help, her eyes pleading with him to bail her out somehow.
Keeping a straight face and ignoring her sister for the moment, Megan turned to Matt. “Sir, this device was inside one of the warp nacelles. It was suspected to be a weapon, and I confirmed this. I already have security and the Marines sweeping the ship looking for anything out of the ordinary and reviewing the sensor logs, and Ensign Tavik is checking up on everyone who’s been aboard since we’ve docked.”
“That sounds serious. I’m going to give you two some room...better yet, I’ll change into my uniform and help with the security sweep and make myself useful. You two just continue doing what you’re doing, and I will talk to you later. Nice to meet you Matt…Captain…?” Marina said/asked, taking a moment to consider which one to use before finally giving up and darting out of the room, avoiding her sister’s gaze.
Smiling slightly and shaking her head, Megan turned her attention back to Matt. “I don’t know if this incident is related to our current mission, but I felt it was important to deal with it immediately and bring it to your attention either way,” she supplied.

Meanwhile on the bridge, Commander T’Nar was manning the science station when something caught her eye. Under normal circumstances, the minor blip on sensors probably would have been ignored as background radiation, but given the current senior officer on the bridge had requested reporting anything, no matter how small, the Vulcan officer decided to take a closer look. The small spike in readings was minute, but once it was isolated and magnified, she could see that it was important.
“Commander Pride,” she reported calmly. “I believe I have detected evidence of a cloaked ship. There was a spike in radiation that was consistent with a vessel going to warp, and further examination confirmed this and revealed evidence of a cloak.”

Looking at Commander T'Nar and listening to his report he closed his to see for him self. He could feel the disturbance in space. He had to focus really hard his sense were good but not as far reaching as the senors. Opening his eye's again " Thank you Commander please see if you can tell what direction it was going in and what type of cloak it was please."
He tapped the control on the captains chair that took the ship to Yellow alert. Even though the alien ship was gone he still thought it wise if space dock didn't catch it then there was something to be concerned about. Tapping the intercom as the ship moved to Yellow alert " All senior officer please report to your station Captain Reynolds and Commander Garrett please report to the bridge"
Looking over at Commander T'Nar " Commander take all the power you can get channel it to your senors take it from the sheilds if you have to. If they were hear to fire on us they would have done it already. I would like a heading and a make on the ship if possible before the command staff arrives"
The crew was moving as expected well trainned and doing there jobs. It wasn't normal for a ship to goto Yellow alert while docked there was going to be a call coming from space dock on that one. No sooner had he said it when there was a message coming wanting to know why they were going to Yellow alert.
He didn't answer right away give them a image that we might have a systems problems. When the turbo lift opened he turned to see who had arrived <Tag anybody>

“I don’t know if this incident is related to our current mission, but I felt it was important to deal with it immediately and bring it to your attention either way,” she supplied.
"If this incident is somehow related to our current mission I fear that we have more serious problems that we thought," Matt said as he took the device into his own hands. Having dealt with many weapons during their careers, Matt was surprised that no one recognized the origin of the weapon,"Commander I want this device checked for organic material. The design is a little bit different but I'm sure this is a Breen weapon."
(Megan)
Matt did could not believe that this was the work of the Breen Confederacy, but in these troubled times one couldn't take a chance. If this incident involved their current mission, the Jefferson was indeed in far more trouble than they had thought. It was wildly known that having Breen weapons of any sort was crime in the Federation. The last incursion with the Breen had not gone so well and from the latest intelligence reports the Breen wanted nothing of the Federation.
"All senior officer please report to your station, Captain Reynolds and Commander Garrett please report to the bridge"
"After you number one," Matt said as both officers headed towards the closest turbolift. Matt's stomach clinched when he saw the bulkhead lights turn yellow. Something had happen to warrant Commander Pride calling for the alert. Everyone knew that it was dangerous to put a ship on defensive alert while still attached to another ship," as soon as we arrive, I want to disengage the Jefferson from Assailant. For the moment, I'm calling off our investigation on the starbase."
(Megan)
"Commander Pride report," Matt said as they arrived on the bridge but stopped when he noticed the dockmaster on the viewscreen," we'll be disengaging the Jefferson immedaitely. I'll send Admiral Lin a report once I know what has happened. Jefferson out. Commander Pride what happened?"
(Pride)
"Commander T'Ress, I want the Jefferson to be ready within the hour, I want the entire engineering staff working on getting the Jefferson back in shape," Matt ordered over the comm to his chief engineer.
"Captain, one of our nacelles is not working," Monica protested from the ops console," it will take days to repair all that damage."
"Commander Garrett do you have any ideas?" Matt asked knowing that his former assistant was right. No matter how much he threatened it couldn't possibily be done.
(Megan)
"Commander Garrett, how many shuttles do we have in the shuttlebay that would be able to catch up with that ship?" Matt asked thinking of the two new shuttles on Deck 7.

Looking at the Captain as the Dock master was about to unload on him. "Sorry sir I know the danger of going to yellow alert while docked but was left little choice. I ordered a system check and a report on anything no matter how small that was out of wack. Commander T'Nar noticed a spike in energy readings futher investigation show a cloaked ship high tailing out of the area as soon as they realized the game was a foot. I confirmed T'Nar reading though other means which I'd rather not go into right now but its part of the reason why I'm a good pilot." Pausing to catch his breath.
"Thats when I made the call to go to Yellow alert. I was worried that if star base didn't detect it then what else might be out there, it was only by a off chance we caught this one. I can't feel anything out there but,"he caught himself. He really didn't like trying to explain why he could do the things he could do."I just didn't want to be the one who lost the Jefferson on his first watch, even more I can't be sure there was only one ship. If it decloaked while the other one ran we would have been very dead in space."
<Reynolds>
He waited for the captain response either way he knew he had taken a big risk going to yellow alert. The things that could have gone wrong were to many to list. He had relied on the crew to pull it off safely. The choice was not easy and it seemed he was making more of them these days.

"Don't worry about it Commander," Matt said as he took the center chair next to Megan," this crew has performed this duty quite a few times. I know the dock master will be furious for a while, but he will just have to get over it." (Pride) "Commander Garrett, Ensign Tavik have you ever heard of the Polaric Neutralization Beam?" Matt asked. When they answered in the negative, Matt practically blushed in excitement. Even though he had not created the device, Rear Admiral Loskene and he had made major improvements to its design," computer show us the specs for the Polaric Neutralization Beam." The computer took only a few moments to show them what he was talking about. With this device any and all cloaks were useless. Having successfully been used against a fleet of Romulan warbirds, Matt knew that it wouldn't fail them now. "With this at our disposal, we can penetrate any cloak ever designed. The only problem is its size. I was working on a miniaturized version a long time ago, but stopped all research on it when I left the Jefferson. Ensign I would like your help installing one of these beams on two of our shuttles." (Tavik) "Captain, we don't even know if we will be able to use those shuttles," Monica said reminding the new captain not to get ahead of himself. "Your right, but I want to be prepared," Matt said turning his attention now to his first officer," Commander can we use any of the shuttles to find that cloaked ship?"
