JP between D'Etora Maron (Valad) and J'Varr
The feline murred carefully, looking her over, "Think for a moment. What have you heard about the encrypted message and all, as of yet? And I, of course, merrow, need the ship up and running."
D'Etora thought back. "I heard about it coming in, but other than that I don't know anything about it. Do you think it is some sort of puzzle?" She walked over to the panel to access the damage that still needed repair. "As for the ship, the last thing I worked on was finishing up the warp coils on the starboard nacelle."
She pressed a few buttons to bring up a diagnostic result. The port nacelle seemed to be in working order. ~That's odd. I don't remember Commander T'Ress sending anyone up there yet.~ "Commander, have you sent any repair teams into the port nacelle yet?"
With a slap of the tail against his chair, the feline officer shook his head, "No, no I did not send anyone. Why do you ask? The computer shows..." He paused, looking over the data, "The computer shows the nacelles to be in wholly operable order? How?!"
D'Etora was confused. ~If Commander T'Ress hasn't sent anyone up there . . . ~ "Commander, it might just be a computer malfunction. But it might not be a bad idea to send someone down there to check."
"Maron to security. Could you send someone down to engineering please."
(tag Marina)
"Thanks for coming down. Could you check out the port nacelle. We've might be having some computer malfunctions but please go and check it out. Just in case," she added.
(tag Marina)
"Commander I am going to run a system wide diagnostic to see if we can't figure this out. Is that alright Commander?"
(tag J'Varr)

"Commander, I don't doubt your abilities as a Starfleet officer. I have no intentions of purposely causing confrontations with you. Its not you I don't trust. It's them. But from now on, your word is last," Valad assured her quietly, much to Megan’s relief.
“Thank you; I appreciate that. And I never doubted your intentions,” Commander Garrett replied with a quick smile before opening a channel to Matt. Now that this had been resolved, it was time to report in, and then hopefully get things moving.
“Garrett to Reynolds, we’ve located who we believe to be a member of the black-mailing team. We’ve traced him to a Klingon bar, and I’m going to try to see if I can get him alone, so we can apprehend him. We also received information regarding his associates and the main vessel they use, as well as identified the shuttle he arrived in,” Megan reported, pulling out her tricorder, which was also linked to the Sommers systems. “I’m granting you access to my shuttlecraft’s communications systems and providing you with the location of his ship. There might be a way you can access and download his database remotely. I’ll report in again after our attempt to capture him or whenever we have more information to relay to you, Garrett out.”
<Tag Matt>
On the way into the bar, Megan lowered her voice to say a few more words. “Look, this isn’t going to be easy... I’m going to have to sell this ‘part’ now, unfortunately, but as long as my life isn’t at risk, I promise, I’ll be fine, so please, both of you, try to resist the urge to step in without real necessity, no matter how…unpleasant the situation may be,” Commander Garrett cautioned, dreading what had to be done.
The bar was busy but not too crowded, and the target was sitting at a medium sized table alone with a drink in front of him. Taking a deep breath and letting it out slowly, Megan closed her eyes briefly, squared her shoulders, and then began to move toward him. No longer off duty with her brother trying to help her sister, she was now officially on duty with a bodyguard. Shaking her head a little to scatter the curls a little more loosely, she approached the Romulan confidently, completely in character. Even her body language had changed to that of a predator on the prowl.
Approaching the table, Megan carefully seated herself on the corner of the glass table, resting one high-heeled shoe on the edge of his chair and crossing the other leg over that one, she leaned forward almost tantalizingly. “Excuse me, I’m looking for someone named Dekk. I was hired to show him a good time, and I intend to do just that. You wouldn’t happen to know where I can find him by any chance?” she asked smiling flirtatiously and carefully twirling a lock of hair between her fingers.
His eyebrows nearly merged with his hairline as he stared at her, and for a split second, she thought perhaps this was going to be easier than she though until his brows retreated to their normal position, and his eyes moved back to his drink. “I’m Dekk, but I have no need for companionship at this time,” he replied, taking a sip of his drink, sounding sincere but the slight tremble in his hand gave him away.
Fluttering her eyelashes, Megan laughed lightly and lounged sideways onto the table running her fingertip around the edge of his glass. “Everyone has a need for companionship, and when you’re not paying the tab, it can be even...more...fun...” she added, accentuating the last three words and retrieving a piece of ice from his drink, carefully sucking the...whatever it was...off before popping it into her mouth.
Dekk nearly choked, but managed to mostly maintain his stoic expression. “I am here solely on business, to meet up with a group of my colleagues,” the Romulan responded with a hint of regret in his voice. “I do not have time for this right now.”
Sighing and rolling her eyes, Megan slowly sat up, arching her back like she had some sort of cramp before pushing her hair behind her ear. “They told me you were Romulan. Could have fooled me...you act just like a Vulcan,” she remarked.
As she’d known it would, that insult did not sit well with Dekk. Anger surged into his expression, and in a show of just how not-Vulcan he was, he jumped to his feet, grabbed her, and kissed her…hard. Although she had somewhat expected that, Megan gasped slightly, before forcing back her disgust and closing her eyes, just praying that somehow Valad and Desert were managing to stay calm. Just in case, she held up her hand in Tavik’s direction to indicate she was alright, which made sense with him being her bodyguard. There were the expected cat-calls from the more rowdy patrons around the bar, and as the kiss ended, she wrapped her arms around his neck. “See? That wasn’t so hard,” she purred, smiling seductively at him. “Now what do you say we find a back room and then have some real fun, hmm?”
The Romulan was grinning now too, but before he could reply, a deep, harsh voice spoke from behind her. “We don’t have time for this, Dekk. Tell your little girlfriend to beat it.” Spinning around, Megan was confronted with two imposing Nausicaans.
Biting back a groan of disappointment that would have perfectly matched the look on Dekk’s face, Megan thought quick and spun around to face the two newcomers. “Come now, a group of hard working businessmen such as yourselves deserve to have some fun,” she insisted, smiling provocatively at the one she assumed was the leader. Fiddling with the necklace where she’d placed the transmitting device, she added, “Well, at least let me get you boys a round of drinks. It’ll be my treat?”
Grinning wickedly, the Nausicaan nodded. “Very well, I make it a goal of mine not to disappoint a beautiful woman,” he agreed, leering menacingly in her direction.
Ignoring the chill that shot down her spine, Megan smiled at him, hopped off the table, and traced her finger down the front of his uniform, leaving the device behind. “I’ll be back,” she teased, flipping her hair over and shoulder and heading to the bar, sending a triumphant grin in Valad’s direction. Capturing the Romulan would have been great, but this was certainly a step in the right direction as well.
As she stepped away, the three officers could clearly hear everything that was said at the table. “Three of whatever’s strongest,” she ordered to the burly Klingon at the bar, who laughed heartily as he went to get it. As Megan waited, she listened.
The Nausicaan spoke first. “You better have succeeded, ‘Medical Man.’ You know how important it was that this situation was properly dealt with in a timely manner.”
“The body is destroyed, but the kid lived. She was instantly adopted by the mark, and I couldn’t get to her, so I sent the message as per your orders. So now, we’re owed a favor by a Civilian doctor, all the good that might do us.” Dekk responded.
“It wasn’t about the favor. It was about keeping him in fear for her life to avoid him causing us trouble. Were you able to elude their detection and escape unnoticed?”
“After I destroyed the girl, I created the simulated damage like you said and then took off and did the flight plan you devised. They sent two shuttles after me, but I lost them awhile back. I haven’t seen any trace of them since,” the Romulan said.
“Good, good. We’ve got your assistant out getting our next sample of DNA,” the Nausicaan reported as the bartender handed the drinks over to Megan, who paid for them. “Now all we need is the next girl, and we’re all ready for the next scam.”
Freezing in place, a plan was concocted almost instantly. If she were here alone, it’d be easier, but it was still worth a try. Grabbing the tray and hurrying across the bar, not making any eye contact with Pride or Tavik, she delivered the drinks with a smile on her face. “Here you go, boys. It’s the strongest stuff here. You know, if you guys are up for a real party, maybe we could all go back to your ship for some fun.”
Smiling a terrifying grin, the lead Nausicaan traced her face. Megan had to work very hard to keep from recoiling. “Now that’s the best idea I’ve heard all day,” he leered, downing the drink in one gulp and rising from his chair with his arm around her waist. “Come on guys, I think that this one is just about perfect…for a party...”
Holding onto his arm, Megan began to leave Korrel’s with a Nausicaan on either side and Dekk right behind. She made brief eye contact with Pride in the corner, shaking her head trying to convey to him not to interfere. She couldn’t see Valad, but all she could do was desperately hope they could both see this was a perfect idea... “This is going to be so much fun!” she exclaimed as they moved to the exit.

Watching the Commander work was impressive more and more he was starting to think she was hiding something. With that ship she flew with the wierd energy pattern around it to her composure with the enemy. It was more then just courage it was trainning and not just normal star Fleet either. He put the thoughts to the back of his mind and was a little concerned when she left with all 3.
Unlike Ensign Valad he was a commander and had some rank on his sleeve at the same time he didn't want to blow the chance. Acting a little drunk he walked over and stumbled into the group bumping into Commander Garrett he put a tracer on her which blended in. " I'm sorry gang just alittle to much Romulan ale I think."
The party tossed him aside and bought the drunk act and left. He motioned for Ensign Valad " I just placed a homing becan on her. I dont want to activate it until we know for sure we lost her incase there are active scans on the ship. Its a last resort but at least its something for the moment." taking a moment he didn't really know Valad. " you know I dont remember any type of training that geared you for this in star fleet it would seem more like special trainning would you say" he was hoping that Valad would have the same though and he wasn't just chasing ghost.

Rolling onto his back, Nathan groaned as he stretched out his limbs. He felt a weight against him, then opened his eyes to see Jayden lean over him, an arm to each side of him. "Why good morning," the marine chuckled. "sore, are we?"
Nathan nodded meekly. "Just a little," he replied, locking his hands behind his neck, smiling. "But it's a good feeling for once, I feel I've accomplished something."
"Good for you, now turn over." He gestured impatiently, waiting for Nathan to obey. It took a few seconds, which went accompanied by a brief look of fear. "Oh now, don't give me that. I wouldn't hurt you and you know that." At first with great care, but then a little firmer he worked the doctor's back and shoulders, loosening the muscles with skilled ease. "How does that feel?"
"Good," Nathan murmured, almost dozing off again. "I think Hannah can take care of sickbay this morning." He turned over again, allowing Jayden to work his magic on the other side. He winced as he touched a particular sore spot, but did not comlain. There was a knock on the door and both men fell silent in surprise. "Yes?" Nathan finally answered, sitting up and swinging his legs over the edge over the bed. Jayden sat behind him, one arm slung across Nathan's shoulder, ready to yank him back out of harm's way if needed.
The door slid open and the old doctor walked in, baby in his arms and a boy in his wake. "Ah good, you're awake. Good morning Jayden." He walked forward, depositing the infant into his son's arms. "I'm going to take Freddy for a walk. You'll be in sickbay I assume?"
Nathan shook his head. "No, I'm staying home this morning," he answered, cradling the baby close to him. "Jayden has to go on duty soon and I can't expect you to take care of them. It's my job to do so, and I got enough days left to be able to stay home today. Hannah knows to page me if an emergency arises."
Peter van Breughel nodded, took the boy by his hand and walked out. "Why don't you show me where you usually play?" he asked, upon which the boy literally pulled his grandfather out of their quarters.
"Oh, hello Caleb," Freddy called ahead, waving to the older boy. "Opa, this is Caleb Reynolds. Caleb, this is my opa Peter." He paused, thinking hard. "My dad's dad," he explained unnecessarily. "What're you up to?"
Meanwhile, Jayden too had gotten dressed. "I have to go. You'll page me if you need me?" He knelt before the doctor, taking one of his hands in both his own. "Promise me Nathan. The minute you think something is wrong, call me!"
The doctor merely nodded. "Good. I'll be home right after my shift." He leaned forward for a kiss then rose to his feet and walked out.
Still cradling the baby girl, Nathan rose to his feet and walked over to the com unit on the wall. "Mr T'Ress, I believe you also received a copy of a message that was sent to me. Major Johnson has not replied to my call. I wish to know what was in the message, as I have a right to know but nobody is bothering to tell me. Meet me in the mess hall in ten minutes for breakfast and bring a readable copy of that message." He didn't give the feline time to respond.
Putting Angelique on the bed for a few minutes, he got dressed quickly, made himself presentable, picked the baby up again and walked out.

"Commander, no offense, but I don't intend on losing her. I don't care what rank she pulls, I'm going on that ship. She can chew me out later." Before Pride could respond Valad walked off and disappeared into the crowd after Commander Garrett.
As he trailed the group, he thought about his confrontation with the first officer. How dare you…first you question me, when you had no right to do so, and then you’re somehow surprised when I remind you that I outrank you. You are the… He heard her words echoing in his mind. He had every right to stop her. Who was she to just walk in a play dabo girl. Dekk saw through it in the Klingon bar. Then the Nausicaans came and took her bait. And that was your luck Commander. Something else bothered him though. It was something that Commander Pride said before Valad began to trail the group. you know I dont remember any type of training that geared you for this in star fleet it would seem more like special trainning would you say? He would remember to play closer attention to her.
By now he was hearing moans and laughter coming from the group. Disgusting he thought to himself. As they got closer to the ship, they entered a large atrium like room where there were varieties of species doing their business. It was quite easy to keep up with them now with all of the other people around. The group then stopped and were joined by another Romulan. Who is this? Valad hoped it was just some merchant. He moved closer to see if he could hear what the Romulans were saying to each other.
"Everything is still going as planned. Who is this girl?" asked the new Romulan.
"Just a pickup from the bar. The Nausicaans wouldn't leave without her."
"We don't have time for this Dekk."
"Oh let them have a little fun, Zabrak. Maybe it will shut them up a little longer," said Dekk.
"Get rid of her now," Zabrak ordered.
At that moment Valad discreetly drew his phaser and was about to fire, when he saw three Cardassians also eyeing the group from the other side of the room opposite him. He clearly saw what their intentions were and holstered his phaser. A new group. Obviously Dekk has a lot of enemies. The group didn't seem to be going anywhere so he went to a quiet corner and kept them in sight.
"Tavik to Seraph. Captain, there is a third party. Cardassian."
(Matt)
"I lost Commander Pride when I began tailing Commander Garrett and she is well . . . . putting on a good show. Captain keep on the lookout for Cardassian ships. We may need to get out of here in a hurry."
(Matt)
"The group is on the move again. I'll keep you informed. Tavik out."
He watched the group make their way out of the atrium. As he suspected, the Cardiassians followed suit. Valad then brought up the rear, keeping tabs on both groups.
They reached the ship. Commander Garrett's group pleasnatly oblivious to that they are being followed, got onto the ship and left the door open. That wasn't smart. Valad watched as the Cardassians one by one entered into the ship. The third stayed outside to keep watch. Hmm. Looks like what I failed to do. He grabbed his tricorde to pinpoint the Commander's location. He was going in after her. He found the location and looked back up. The third Cardassian was nowhere to be found. Valad quickly scanned the area and found nothing until he was grabbbed from behind and thrown against a wall.
"You humans never learn to keep your noses out of others' matters," the Cardassian said. He pulled a weapon from its holster and pointed it at Valad. As he shot, a vendor's cart broke behind him and the shot went off a few inches to the right of Valad's chest. He took advantage of the chance, drew his phaser and fired. It hit the Cardassian in the chest and he immediately went down. Valad's phaser was set to stun so he was still alive.
"Tavik to Commander Pride. I'm near the ship but there is another problem. There are Cardassians involved. I don't know why but one just attacked me. He's stunned on the ground. Please take custody of him. I'm going in after Commander Garrett. Tavik out."
(Pride)
As Valad snuck onto the ship, he could only hope that Commander Garrett was alright.

=/\=Maron to security, could you send someone down to engineering please?=/\=
“Acknowledged,” the security officer currently handling the assignments replied as Marina strode through the doors to the office at the right moment. “Ensign Garrett, report to Engineering. They requested a security officer,” the Lieutenant ordered.
Coming to a halt, coffee in hand, Marina was a bit stunned to get an assignment so soon after coming on duty, well technically just before coming on duty, but she quickly pulled herself together and replied, “Yes, Ma’am. I’ll head there right now.”
Gulping down the remnants of her third pick-me-up, the security officer tossed the cup into a nearby recycler and officially clocked in before heading to her first job of the day. Marina was a tiny bit sore from the hours of training with Nathan the day before, but it was far from intolerable. In fact, it was the pleasant kind of burn you get from knowing you burned a lot of calories and toned plenty of muscles. In spite of getting so mad at the doctor, Ensign Garrett was actually in a pretty good mood.
Waltzing into Engineering, Marina took in the sight of people hard at work and the low, steady hum of the control center of the ship. It really was quite impressive, at least until the security officer suddenly realized she had no idea who she was here to see. Glancing around in confusion for a moment, Ensign Garrett was completely thrilled when a cute Lieutenant asked if he could help her. After explaining why she was here, and a brief introduction of course, he pointed her in the direction of the office on the second level, and thanking him profusely, she took the lift up to where he’d indicated, but didn’t see anyone there except for a crewmember at a console.
“Excuse me, I’m here from security. Someone requested a security officer?” Marina asked, unsure if she was in the correct place or what exactly she was doing here.
"Thanks for coming down. Could you check out the port nacelle? We might be having some computer malfunctions, but please go and check it out, just in case," the young half Klingon requested politely, which alleviated Ensign Garrett’s previous concern.
‘Oh good, I am in the right place,” Marina replied, smiling broadly. “I just transferred here a few days ago, and although this was obviously Engineering, I wasn’t quite sure it was where I was supposed to be. My name’s Marina, I mean Ensign Garrett,” the security officer added, laughing at her little mistake. “I guess I’m still not used to my new rank yet, but I don’t think I’ve met you before...?” she asked hesitantly.
<Tag D’Etora>
“It’s very nice to meet you,” Marina replied pleasantly. “And I’ll go search the port nacelle now. I’ll let you know if I find anything,” she added cheerfully before heading off to figure out how to get to the port nacelle. Maybe she’d ask that Lieutenant...
~
While it had been fun talking with the engineer, Lieutenant Brad Marris, on the way there, once they arrived, Marina got right down to business. After all, she was nothing if not professional…most of the time at least. It was amazing just how huge the nacelle was, with more panels, wiring, and consoles than she could ever count. Not to mention the catwalk extending its entire length, which was a bit frightening, especially with all the ladders leading to all sorts of different points along the interior.
It took quite awhile to search it in its entirety, especially having no idea what to look for, but she was at least making progress. As Marina continued to scan, both with her tricorder and visually, she was beginning to grow bored. The security officer was more used to dealing with people than technology, and she wasn’t seeing a single thing suspicious or even interesting, that is until she got to almost the very end. The tricorder wasn’t picking up anything suspicious or any damage either, but as she approached the ladder something caught her eye. Upon closer examination, there was a small, metallic device resting on the wall, and after searching the area, Ensign Garrett found half a dozen more lined up at end applied directly to the hull.
“Garrett to Engineering, I found a group of small devices in the nacelle. I don’t know exactly what they are, but I’m picking up a holographic signature imbedded in the device. They appear to be inactive. I’m collecting one to bring to Engineering for analysis, but I recommend getting a team down here to remove the rest of them.”
<Tag J’Varr/D’Etora>
“Ensign,” Lieutenant Marris called from a few yards away. “There’s some sort of device here too. It’s connected to the internal sensor networks. From what I can tell, it’s feeding information to Engineering on the status of the nacelle,” he reported.
“Report that to engineering as well,” Marina called back to him. “Hey can you get me an engineering kit, preferably one with a small sample container?” she asked.
“Sure thing,” Brad replied, crossing the distance between them to hand her the kit.
“Thanks, Marina replied, smiling up at him before opening the kit, removing the sample container, and carefully extricated one of the devices from the hull. When it lit up and began emitting a high pitched shrieking noise, Ensign Garrett placed it carefully on the ground while shouting for anyone in the vicinity to get out of there. Lieutenant Marris took off, and as Marina took off running behind him, she thought to herself that he wasn’t such a gentleman after all, just as the sudden explosion knocked her completely off her feet and into a bulkhead. Then everything went dark.

As the group continued moving to the exit, Megan was laughing at something one of the Nausicaans said trying to act the part. She still couldn’t see Valad, but Pride was moving toward them. She felt that, unfortunately, her attempt to apprehend the group was over. However, she was pleasantly surprised when the Commander gave a very good impression of an unsteady drunk and bumped into her, leaving behind what she assumed was some sort of tracking or transporter device. ‘Very clever,’ the First Officer thought to herself as she laughed off the bump and continued out the door. ‘I’m going to have to look into his background. That was quite ingenious.’
The further along they moved, the more distant Dekk became, and that concerned Megan slightly. While the Romulan would have been far easier to manipulate, the Nausicaans were an entirely different story. Perhaps with the element of surprise, she could take one of them at a time, but both at once was a virtual impossibility. Also, although their eventual goal was most likely to have her be their next young mother for blackmailing, that didn’t prevent them from just having some fun first, and that was certainly bad news for her. She would just have to manage somehow.
Positioned between the two, burly Nausicaans, it was virtually impossible for the Commander to watch behind them for any signs of Valad and Pride, but she was fairly sure they wouldn’t be too far away. With a few stops along the way to speak to a couple of merchants about pending business transactions, which seemed to be unrelated, it took some time before the group arrived at the freighter the Bajoran bartender had indicated. Once inside, Megan became aware of a second Romulan, which although it added the number of opponents to deal with, it made pitting them against each other easier. “Hello, I didn’t get to meet you before,” she purred in the newcomer’s direction, disentangling herself from one of the Nausicaans and moving towards him. “And you look like someone who could use a good time, am I right?”
The Nausicaans howled with laughter at this, while the unknown Romulan scowled miserably. “No, and I think it’s about time for you to leave. We have no need of you.”
“Lighten up, Zabrak,” the leader bellowed. “Everything doesn’t have to be about work. You need to learn how to have some real fun and not be so serious all the time.”
Megan continued to hang on Zabrak, as he was far safer than the Nausicaans, but he kept brushing her off. “Now’s not the time for that. We got Dekk and his shuttle back. We should get out of here before that starship and its shuttles come after us.”
Chuckling, the lead Nausicaan spoke again. “Relax, it’s all taken care of; you just worry too much, Romulan. Can’t you think of a good reason for keeping this girl?”
Still glaring, the Romulan replied, “It’s too soon to be thinking about that. We should get out of here, wait for the sample, and then get a girl like we usually do, Kovaj.”
The Nausicaan leader quickly leaped to his feet. “Are you questioning me, Zabrak?”
The two sides fighting was exactly what Megan wanted, and she quickly began to search for a way to slip off undetected. “I’m not questioning you, Kovaj. You are a remarkable leader, and you have created a perfect system, which is why I think we should stick to what has worked brilliantly in the past and not deviate from it now.”
“And I think we should keep this one and take advantage of an opportunity that’s presented itself,” Kovaj demanded, sounding even more aggravated every minute.
Megan had worked her way over to what looked like a replicator, which was right next to one of the doors. All it would take was a brief distraction, and she could be off doing who knows what they their computer systems. “And I think you’re letting some sweet talking, latinum bleeding...” The Romulan’s words were cut off by the sudden implosion of the opposite door, through which phaser fire suddenly flew in.
As soon as the door blew in, Commander Garrett had dropped to the floor to avoid being hit, and as the Nausicaans and Romulans took cover and began returning fire, she moved to the other door and quickly exited the room. The hallway on the other side was much quieter, though the muffled sound of shots could still be heard. Now that her cover didn’t matter quite so much, Megan pulled her tricorder and determined that what appeared to be the control center was empty, and that those shooting at the blackmailing ring were actually Cardassians, not her officers.
Since it didn’t really matter who caused the distraction, the First Officer proceeded to the freighter’s bridge carefully avoiding contact with any other crewmembers. It seemed while docked, most of their crew was off doing their own thing rather than manning the stations. Once Megan got to the bridge, the act was dropped entirely, and she was in her element doing what she did best: hacking computer systems. While the firefight continued, Commander Garrett hit systems carefully selected as priority targets. A few minutes later, her tricorder signaled that one of the Romulans was approaching the bridge, and she quickly concealed it and covered her tracks in the computer. When Dekk entered, she cried out and jumped back acting afraid.
“What are you doing?” the Romulan demanded, aiming his weapon directly at her.
Holding up her hands, Megan blinked back forced tears. “I was scared. I couldn’t find how to leave. I was trying to find a map,” she replied in a quiet, trembling voice.
He did not look convinced, so he simply indicated for her to move away from the console with his disruptor. Sniffling a little, Megan did as he indicated, though she kept watching for any sort of opening or weakness she could take advantage. The Romulan kept his weapon trained on her but accessed the systems, and the First Officer could hear the engines starting up. A few moments later, and the freighter suddenly broke from its dock, heading away from the station and into open space.
It was tempting to cross the room and take him out, as she did have a chance, but she knew it was better to stick to her cover based on the current situation. At least she’d managed to alter engine outputs to create a trail Captain Reynolds and the Jefferson could follow, and she’d also been able to disable the cloak, but that had been all the time there had been. Not knowing where Valad and Pride were and in fact needing to have her own backup, Megan subtly activated an emergency plan, which resulted in the Sommers undocking and moving to follow at a pre-arranged distance. Matt would need to retrieve the other two officers, but there was no way Commander Garrett was going off without her ship as backup since she never had.
Shortly after she’d done that, Kovaj, Zabrak, and the other Nausicaan entered the bridge as well. “The reptiles are dead, but their ship will soon follow. Activate the cloaking device,” Kovaj ordered as the three took what seemed to be their stations.
“I can’t,” Dekk replied, sounding frustrated. “And I don’t know what’s wrong with it.”
“Well get it working,” the Nausicaan leader snapped before glancing in her direction. “And get her off the bridge and into the holding cell. I still say we can use her next.”
“There’s a Federation shuttle approaching the station,” the other Nausicaan stated, which halted Zabrak, who was moving toward her. Megan could venture to make a guess as to who that was, and prepared herself to try and make a move after all.
“Get us out of here, maximum warp,” Kovaj ordered, and in response, the vessel shuddered and threw everyone to the deck with a sudden thud as it went to warp. It was all Megan could do to keep herself from trying to take over the ship, but she restrained herself. The chance of success was slim, and things were already working out fine. There was no need to try and do everything at once without need. A few moments later, the leader spoke again. “Is it in pursuit?” he asked worriedly.
“Negative,” the second Nausicaan replied, and that caused Megan to relax slightly.
‘Good...’ she thought. ‘Get Tavik and Pride, and wait for the Jefferson to engage.’ She knew Matt was well aware of what he was doing, but Commander Garrett just wouldn’t be who she was without an opinion of what should be done, when, and how.
It was then Zabrak moved to grab her arm and drag her off the bridge. Megan for her part put up a tiny fight, asking what they were going to do with her and crying, but that was just for show and to keep them thinking she was no threat to them. If they were kept busy with the Cardassians and her own people were following, all she really needed to do was keep quiet and work on infiltrating their systems with her tricorder to control their ship. As soon as she got a moment, she’d also send a message to Matt and the others through the Sommers, telling them she was fine.

Megan's message completely surprised Matt but once his mind understood what had just been said, he immediately went to work. Matt knew that he couldn't risk exposing the Seraph just yet, so he did what Megan had suggested and access the Sommers communications array from his position near the star.
"Computer access the Sommer's communications array and locate the shuttlcraft that has been selected by Commander Garrett," Matt ordered as he accessed the strange shuttle.
"Shuttlecraft found in Docking Ring F."
"Is there anyway that we can download there computer remotely?" Matt asked knowing that the answer would most likely be no.
"Negative."
"Computer bring the shuttle to yellow alert and deactivate all Federation or Starfleet frequencies," Matt said knowing that it was vital to get the information in that shuttle. Fully aware that the sudden appearance of the Seraph would seem suspicious, Matt circled the star hoping that it would appear that it had just arrived from the far side of the system.
"Tavik to Seraph. Captain, there is a third party. Cardassian."
"The Cardassians are a long way from home, Ensign are you sure about this?" Matt asked knowing full well that Valad would have not reported the appearance of the Cardassians if it wasn't relevant.
"I lost Commander Pride when I began tailing Commander Garrett and she is well . . . . putting on a good show. Captain keep on the lookout for Cardassian ships. We may need to get out of here in a hurry."
"Try to find Commander Pride, but do not loose sight of Commander Garrett and I'll start scanning for Cardassians ships immediately," Matt said as he initiated a system wide search. To his dismay, the scan revealed that there were seven Cardassian ships and twelve others less than five light years away. The concentration of so many Cardassian ships was not out of the ordinary. The starbase was relatively close to a major trade route after all.
"The group is on the move again. I'll keep you informed. Tavik out."
"Computer encrypt ensuing message using mid 23rd century Starfleet frequencies, once ready send message," Matt said as he quickly explained what was going on. Commander T'Ress was a known fan of 23rd century Starfleet vessels. Hopefully his hobby would come in handy for them. His attention quickly turned to the starbase when his sensors told him that he was being hailed. Knowing that if he didn't answer, his officers were going to be stranded, Matt answered the hail
"What is the Federation doing in this part of space?" the station commander asked clearly a bit nervous
"I"m not Federation you fool, if I was do you think I would come here!" Matt said improvising on the spot," I escaped from a Federation penal colony and I stole this shuttle. I need to abandon this shuttle and find a way far away from the Federation as soon as possible."
"I do not want the Federation anywhere near my station," the commander said with a sneer," but I got to have that shuttle. You are cleared to dock in Docking Ring F."
"Thanks and I will want just compensation for this shuttle, I want through a lot of trouble stealing it," Matt said before he ended the conversation. It seemed that his cover had not been blown and he could only hope that he wouldn't be discovered.
Caleb
"Oh, hello Caleb," Freddy called ahead, waving to the older boy. "Opa, this is Caleb Reynolds. Caleb, this is my opa Peter." He paused, thinking hard. "My dad's dad," he explained unnecessarily. "What're you up to?"
"Hey Freddy, how do you like your new sister?" Caleb asked before turning to Freddy's grandfather. All three of his parents had taught him to show respect to elders and for all his deviousness he couldn't help but do this at all times.
"Hello sir, its very nice to meet you," Caleb asked in his most adult voice," would you like to play with us?"

Matt was hoping that his risk was going to pay off, but the abrupt departure of the freighter told him that their plans had just been blown to kingdom come. Before he knew what happened, the freighter had gone to warp.
"Damn it!" Matt said as he slammed his hands onto the console. He didn't have any confirmation, but he was positive that Commander Garrett was onboard that freighter. "Computer locate all members of the away team and the Sommers."
"Commander Pride is on Habitat Ring G, Commander Garrett and Ensign Valad are not on the station. Unable to comply."
"Why can't you comply?" Matt asked confused and angry.
"The Sommers is no longer in this sector."
"What the hell are you talking about?" Matt asked getting more confused and angry.
"Please rephrase the questions."
Matt knew that the computer wouldn't be able to help him at this point, so Matt immediately tried to find Commander Pride. Once he was located they would leave the starbase and go after the freighter.
"Warning, selected Cardassian vessels are moving away from the starbase."
"Computer are they going in the same direction as the freighter that just left the starbase?" Matt asked hoping that the Cardassian movements were only a coincidence.
"Affirmative"
"Computer transport Commander Pride to the Seraph" Matt asked realizing that the lives of his officers was in real jeopardy.
"Commander, plot a course away from the base, once we are far enough contact the Jefferson. We have a big problem," Matt said as he began plotting a course towards an armed freighter and a small fleet of Cardassian ships.

“Doctor, we need you, immediately,” Hannah's voice sounded over his combadge. “There's been an accident.”
Nathan was up and about before she had finished, shooing Jayden out the door to tend to his duties. “On my way Hannah,” he replied, grabbing his medkit, “brief me on the go.” He paused, realising he had no idea where he had to report to. “Where?” he queried, irritably.
Jayden, however, had not left. “Go,” he ordered, “I'll stay here with Angel. Your father is out with your son, he should be safe. But we can't rely on your holonanny right now, what if there's sabotage?”
The doctor couldn't argue his logic and nodded curtly. “So much for the morning off,” he scowled as he hurried out. “Hannah, report.”
“There was an explosion, port nacelle. Number of injured unknown but it's certain there are. We're preparing to receive wounded.”
“Acknowledged.” Nathan hurried down the corridors, waiting impatiently as the turbolift took him down to the port nacelle. When he stepped in, he was met by chaos and an inferno. Shielding his face, he reached for the extinguisher, calling in for assistance from engineering. “J'Varr!” he called, “get your furry [word deleted] up here immediately! I need a damage control team, stat!”
The doctor hurried forward, towards where he saw two bodies. One was badly burned and barely alive, but alive he was. Carefully, he examined the male and, noting his condition, had him transported to sickbay. “Male, badly burned, respiratory distress,” he reported as the body disappeared.
Then he turned towards the second person, noticing it was female. He gasped as he recognised her when he carefully turned her over. She wasn't as bad off as her male companion, but nonetheless she was in danger. “Two to transport to sickbay,” he ordered as he gathered the girl up in his arms. There was nothing he could do for her, at this location. “All yours,” he told the damage control team, “I'll be in sickbay.” Then he shimmered out and rematerialised in sickbay.
With great care, he placed the girl on a bed and stepped back for the nurses to do their part while he tended to the badly injured male officer. “He'll pull through.” He then realised he had no idea who was in command of the Jefferson, with both CO and XO off-ship. “Whoever is in command on the bridge,” he started, “the two injured in the explosion in the nacelle are out of danger. I do not know the identity of the male but the female is Ensign Marina Garrett.” He looked down on the girl's motionless body, his hand covering hers in an attempt to comfort her.
“You had an accident,” Nathan whispered at her, as she opened her eyes, “what happened?”
~Elsewhere~
"Hello sir, its very nice to meet you," Caleb asked in his most adult voice," would you like to play with us?"
Wrinkles creased his face as Peter smiled down on the other boy. “Why, I thought you'd never ask,” he chuckled, nudging Freddy forward. “And I am pleased to meet you as well, Caleb Reynolds. Now tell me, what does a boy your age do for fun?”
Freddy stared up at his grandfather in surprise; this was something else. His father would never have asked, he'd not have gone with them to play in the first place. “Opa are you sure you want to?” he asked carefully, “I mean....you're old!”
Smile widening, Peter laughed at his grandson's anxious expression. “You're not rid of me this quick. We're giving your father a little relief, to be with Jayden, so you're stuck with me boy. Now, what do you two want to do? Visit the holodeck?” He glanced sideways at Caleb. “Get into a little mischief, hm?”
Then, his combadge chirped. “Van Breughel,” he replied, tapping it.
“Dad, there's a medical emergency, I've been called in. Can you stay with Freddy a little longer? Jayden's stayed home with Angel, he insisted. I don't know when I'll be home.”
“Certainly,” Peter replied, suddenly alert. “Page me if you need assistance. My eyes are still good and my hands don't shake....yes sickbay is yours but I'm quite capable of lending a hand.”
“I know dad. When things get rough, I'll call again. For now, don't worry and keep Freddy out of trouble?”
Peter glanced at his grandson, who was engrossed in some form of discussion with Caleb. “Of course. I'm taking him and a boy named Caleb to the holodeck. Be careful.” He signed off and ushered the boys forward. “Time to go. You two pick a program yet?”

Caleb had never considered using the holodeck. It was public knowledge that Caleb was not allowed inside them without his father. Caleb had the habit of thinkering with the holodeck controls.
"I think that is a great idea! Don't you agree Freddy?" Caleb asked knowing full well that he wouldn't have another opportunity like this for a very long time," Freddy we should visit the lava fields on Vulcan, the eruptions are supposed to be really cool or we can hydrosail on Pacifica."
Before the younger boy could answer, the older van Breughel ushered them towards the holodeck. Caleb didn't like using the nice older man, but the possibility of having fun for hours was an urge the young boy couldn't resist.
"Your a doctor like Freddy's dad, I bet you have save a lot of people," Caleb said hoping to butter up the older man. Caleb knew that giving compliments usually meant the adult would be more likely to agree," that is so cool Freddy. Your dad and grandfather are both doctors. Your dad's boyfriend is a marine and from what my dad told me you have the cutest little sister ever."
The younger boy looked troubled for a bit at the mention of lava, knowing his own father wouldn't approve of something so dangerous, even if it were a holodeck. Yet, it did sound exciting? "Opa can we, please?"
Peter listened to the boys' exchange, a bemused smile on his face. He had dealt with children for the better part of his life and he knew what the captain's son was trying to do. For now, he'd just play along a little. "Yes, I'm a doctor," he answered gently, "but not like my son. I've always been a children's doctor, but yes I did save a lot of lives."
He watched, as the boy changed tactics, waiting, watching.
"Would it be alright if we play parrises squares?" Caleb asked with a mischievous smile on his face. It was his favorite game even though his father wanted him to wait until he was sixteen to begin playing. Caleb vaguely remembered Matt telling him how dangerous it was.
This time, the old man shook his head. "No. You can't play parrishes squares until you're sixteen. Even with the holodeck safeties, it is too dangerous and your father would never forgive me if I let you play and you got injured. We can, however play soccer or perhaps some baseball?" That was dangerous enough, but not as much as parrishes squares."

He felt the transporter take him to the shock of the crowed standing around him. As soon as he appeared on the shuttle he could tell the captain was worried. He took then pilot seat and contacted the jefferson and piked it to the captain.
studying the read outs he could see what they were up against, this was not going to be easy by a long shot. "Captain I have a homing beacon planted on Commander Garrett once I activate it we can follow. By the way who are your new friend out there they seem to want to play"<Tag Reynolds>
His thoughts were on Valad if they got out of this he was going to be in trouble. Still he couldn't blame the young Ensign he had the curse of youth on thim. It would be tempered by age but it wasn't going to be easy. This thoughts were more worried about the ensign then the commander she had shown she could take care of herself. Which still raised alot of questions that would be answered one day.
" Sir I suggest we get moving and leave out friends behind" pausing for minute" On the other hand haveing them follow us could be useful the last thing those guys want is attention right now and it might slow them down" <Tag Reynolds>

//ooc: Ok this post happens simultaneously and slightly after Commander Garrett's post. A joint post will soon follow that will be a little more explanative. // RPG: Valad stowed away aboard the freighter. He hid in an access tube until he heard voices coming from down the tube. He needed to get moving. Just before he moved, he heard a small blast come from a few decks up. He hoped Commander Garrett was nowhere near it. He could hear some phaser fire from above. It was short lived, but enough to make him worry about the first officer. He took out his tricorder and scanned for her life signs. Not only did he find hers, but also the signs of several other human females on the ship. He counted seventeen distinct signatures from the scan and wondered what kind of operation this was. The ship lurched. we must be leaving he thought to himself. He felt the ship go almost immediately to warp speed. Where are we going? He needed to find a computer console to figure out what was going on. He looked from his new hiding place and saw that no one was coming. He quietly stepped out into the corridor and walked down along the wall. He saw several Nausicaans and Romulans going about their business. Since he didn’t get a good enough look at it before he came onboard, Valad couldn’t tell who owned the ship. This could get interesting. The vessel had been at warp for a few minutes before Valad moved again. Once again he moved along the walls of the corridors and up through ventilation and service tubes. His goal was to reach whatever room those signatures were in. He took out his tricorder again to get his bearings and then continued on. Several times he was almost discovered by Romulan and Nausicaan sentries and crewmen, but he was able to sneak by without getting caught. By this point he figured he only had one more deck to go and he took out his tricorder again and scanned for anything out of the ordinary. Once again, he searched for Commander Garrett’s signal just to make sure she was still alive. The tricorder positioned her directly below him while the other biosignatures were on the deck above. He also noticed the Nausicaan sentry in whatever room the first officer was. He figured she was ok for now and continued upward. The ship had been at warp for almost thirty minutes as Valad finally made it to the room he set out for. He checked his tricorder for any other biosignatures in the room ahead and finding none, he quickly stepped across the corridor and up to the door. The door didn’t automatically open when he walked up to it because, as he noticed, there was a security key pad on a side panel. These were used back in the twentieth century. I wonder if I can get my tricorder to emit a pulse that will disable the unit. He modified his tricorder to emit a electron pulse to wipe out the old security mainframe. He made sure no one was approaching, then he initiated the pulse. It not only disabled the mainframe, but opened the door for him as well, and nothing could have prepared him for what he was about to see. Lined up, in rows of four, were stasis tubes in some sort of lab or cargo bay. Valad walked up one row and scanned each of the tubes. Inside was a healthy female of a different humanoid species in stasis. He examined each of the tubes and found one that had been prepped and ready for a new victim, but had not been filled yet. Valad went over to the computer console to see if he could shed some light on what was going on with this lab. He access the logs and medical records of each of the victims. After a few minutes of access, what he found was startling. After discovering this information, he decided he needed to somehow talk to Commander Garrett. He scanned down two decks and searched for Commander Garrett’s signature. He found it and scanned the rest of the room she was in. He noticed a Nausicaan guard in the room, but as he continued to scan, the guard, for some odd reason left the room. (tag Megan) Valad then went through ideas of how to contact the first officer. He decided on taking advantage of the empty room and try and contact her through use of his tricorder. He would send a message for her to remodulate her tricorder to emit a comm channel, instead of using the comm badges, which could be easily detected. He programmed the device and relayed a message down to Garrett’s tricorder. (tag Megan)

"Captain I have a homing beacon planted on Commander Garrett once I activate it we can follow. By the way who are your new friend out there they seem to want to play"
"No the Seraph's sensors are sophisticated enough to follow the freighter on its own," Matt said as he turned over helm responsibility to more expereinced pilot," once we reach the frieghter I want those beacons activated. They should help us find the commander and Valad. I wish those guys were my friends, but I'm pretty sure they are after the freighter."
" Sir I suggest we get moving and leave our friends behind," Desert said before pausing for minute, "On the other hand haveing them follow us could be useful the last thing those guys want is attention right now and it might slow them down."
"I agree with you Commander," Matt said as he looked at the Cardassian ships behind them. As of that moment, they were not hostile towards them and if they could certainly help with the freighter," the Cardassians however cannot be trusted. We need to be ready to fight against two enemies."
(Pride)
The possibility of fighting against the freighter and the Cardassian fleet was not a promising sign for the Seraph. Even with all of its advance technology, the sheer number of ships would be an impossible task to overcome. Hopefully the Jefferson was well on its way but since there was no evidence that it was, they would need to be very careful.
Caleb
"That is not fair," Caleb whined to the older man," there is no possibility of us getting hurt. The safteies are going to be on at all times and we could always play at a novice level."
Caleb knew full well that his attempt at playing parrishes squares was going to fail, but his father had always taught him to never give up to easily. Since he was not going to get to play his favorite sport, Caleb turned to his friend and asked him what he wanted to do.
"Freddy is there something that you would like to do?" Caleb asked as he stopped the group in front of the holodeck doors," lets do something that you want, but please no holodeck stories."

Jason Reynolds decided that he would spend a few weeks on board the USS Jefferson with his children. Even though he was on extended leave from service, Jason decided that he would offer his services as an experienced operations officer. Even though he's served in Starfleet for many years, Jason couldn't help but be a bit nervous. He hadn't actively served on a ship since Angel, his wife, disappeared. Raising his two boys on his own had been difficult but he couldn't be happier. Alex and Kyle were healthy, fun loving toddlers who were growing every day.
"Daddy, why are you going to work?" Kyle asked wondering why his father was putting on his uniform," this is Uncle Matt's ship. You can't work here."
"Yes he can Kyle," Alex said as he swiped one of his brother's nutritional bars from his plate," Uncle Matt said he could."
"I'm just helping out your uncle," Jason said as he picked up both of his boys," I want you to behave today. I'm going to find out where your cousin Caleb is and you are going to spend the day with him."
"Really? Caleb is so cool!" Kyle said which caused his father to laugh. Even though they had only met once, he was pleased that his children liked the older boy. Even though he was not biologically related he was family.
"You are three, you think everything is cool," Jason whispered to himself as he cleaned up his children," Computer locate Caleb Reynolds and the nearest adult near him."
"Caleb Reynolds is near holodeck 1 and the nearest adult is Doctor Peter van Breughel."
"Commander Reynolds to Peter van Breughel, I know this is short notice, but I have a favor to ask of you," Jason said as he tapped his combadge. He didn't know this man, but he assumed he was trustworthy. If Matt could trust him with his son, then Jason knew that he could trust this man with his children.
(Peter)
"Uncle Jason, I totally forgot you were still on board," Caleb said sounding a bit embarrassed," can the boys join Freddy, Doctor van Breughel and myself? We are going to to the holodeck."
"I do hate to ask, but I have to report to the bridge in a few minutes and I need someone to look over my son's and I would like them to spend time with their cousin," Jason said hoping the man would understand.
(Peter)
"Thank you. You are a life saver," Jason said as he finished dressing his children.
"Daddy hurry up, I want to play with Caleb," Alex said as he tugged at his father's sleeve," hurry up Kyle!"
"Don't scream at your brother," Jason said as he picked up the younger twin and walked out the door with Alex at his side. The trio quickly found the nearest lift and asked the computer to take them to Holodeck 1. "Guys please don't run over your cousin."
It seemed that his children were going to completey ignore his advice since the second the lift door opened they ran out hoping to find their cousin.
"Guys stop running around like crazy people," Jason said as he ran after his children. To his luck, they didn't have to run much since a second later they found the two hugging Caleb," I'm sorry about that Caleb. Doctor van Breughel thank you a lot."
(Peter)
Jason looked at his children and smiled at them. If he had known how old Peter van Breughel was he would have found someone else to look after his children. Jason didn't think he would be able to handle three Reynolds kids. Probably no one could.
"Bridge"
Everyone knew that Jason was Matt's older brother, but Jason had been assured that no one was going to treat him differently. Jason didn't want any special treatment and a commander he was going to make sure that wasn't going to happen. Now that Matt and Megan were both off the ship he was the second highest ranking officer left on board. That fact freaked him out a little bit.
"Hello Commander, please take the secondary operations console," Lt. Commander Hayes said to Jason as he entered the bridge.
"Thank you Commander," Jason said as he walked towards the console and immeditaley began to work," Commander something is wrong. There are weird readings from the nacelles!"
Before Hayes could respond to Jason's announcement the ship shook a bit as the klaxons blared to life. It seemed that there had been an explosion, but at that moment they knew very little else.
“Whoever is in command on the bridge,” he started, “the two injured in the explosion in the nacelle are out of danger. I do not know the identity of the male but the female is Ensign Marina Garrett.
"Commander Hayes, the doctor just gave you report, you need to respond!" Jason said as he turned his attention to the beta shift leader,"Commander Hayes!"
"Doctor van Breughel, this is Commander Reynolds, I've assumed command from Commander Hayes, report when you have more information on the condition of both officers," Jason said as he looked at Commander Hayes," it's alright. Computer who is second officer?"
"Commander J'Varr T'Ress."
"Commander T'Ress please repond," Jason said hoping to speak to the current ship's commanding officer.
(J'Varr)

A few minutes after Zabrak had thrown her into some sort of holding cell, and she had stopped ‘crying’ for show, Megan had already discretely used her tricorder to access the Sommers and begun the process of infiltrating the freighter’s computer systems remotely. Fortunately, the Nausicaan guard didn’t seem to be particularly interested in watching her and didn’t consider her a threat. So far, it appeared the majority of the crew was Nausicaan with a few other races scattered in as well. It didn’t really matter too much, but it was interesting to note. This type of situation was where Commander Garrett truly excelled, armed with just her tricorder and a knack for hacking, controlling, and programming alien computers. This was where the First Officer thrived and the kind of missions that she was generally assigned.
Over half an hour later, her work was well under way. The Sommers had cloaked once out of range of the station and was now almost caught up with the freighter. Since hiding the systems wasn’t as much of a priority now, Megan had switched the layout to an innocuous looking Bolian shuttle to subtly pursue the Nausicaans, but now with the cloak, it became even easier to move her ship as needed. The automated tunneling and decryption program was already hard at work accessing the freighter’s systems, but of course it would go much faster with the Commander’s direct assistance, but at least if anything were to happen to her the Sommers would continue to work without her, and eventually succeed in downloading the database, transmitting it to Admiral LaPage, disabling their ship, and tracking crew location.
Once the backup was properly programmed, Megan drafted a quick message to Captain Reynolds. It felt strange to be reporting into someone in the middle of a mission like this given the current circumstances, but she was trying to remember that she wasn’t entirely on her own anymore. ‘I’m on the freighter and unharmed. The Sommers is following discretely, and I have access to its computer through my tricorder. I’m currently working on infiltrating and eventually disabling their systems. My shuttle will send periodic updates on our position. Everything is under control.’
<Tag Matt/Desert>
Hoping that was enough to at least pacify the most likely unhappy Captain, Megan sent the message and continued her work. Having only observed the area directly surrounding her current position, Commander Garrett was entirely startled when a message popped up on her screen from Ensign Tavik requesting a comm channel. Hurriedly running a full scan of the ship, she located Valad two decks above her in an access junction. This had been the absolute last thing she’d expected, and her first thought was of how this further complicated matters. However, she quickly calmed herself and started thinking of his undetected presence as an advantage.
OOC: To be continued in a joint post with Valad.

It was the strangest feeling, kind of like floating somewhere between being asleep and awake where random fragments of reality would fade in and out with pieces of thought and imagination, and between those moments, there was just an odd sense of nothingness that was different from the typical unconsciousness of sleep. Marina had never experienced anything like it. As the almost silver like sheen lifted from her mind, the security officer found herself blinking up at the bright lights of sickbay, though she didn’t yet realize where she was. One thing that could be said for the fuzziness, it had masked the pain, which was now starting to seep back onto the edges of her consciousness. It wasn’t yet unbearable, but it was far from pleasant.
“You had an accident,” the doctor’s voice cut through the fog. “What happened?”
Slowly turning her head to look at him, wincing at the pain caused by movement, Marina tried to speak, but her mouth felt strangely dry, like it was lined with cotton. Swallowing several times and carefully wetting her lips, she tried again. “They all exploded...the devices in the nacelle. They didn’t read as any sort of weapon on the tricorder, so they must have been wired to overload when disturbed to disguise their purpose.” Wincing again as she tilted her head further to see Lieutenant Marris on a biobed on the other side of Nathan. “Is Ben going to be ok, Doctor?” she asked.
<Tag Nathan>
As if on cue, Ben also opened his eyes, smiling slightly as he recognized her and that she was awake. The engineer looked awful, worse than she felt, with noticeable burns or bandages covering most of the skin she could see. “Hey Ben...how are you feeling?” she asked. Although she now remembered him running away without her, he looked poorly enough for her not to mention it. Unfortunately for him, though he had been running away from the device she unintentionally activated, it had activated the others as well, including the one he found linked to the console, which he had inadvertently run directly toward. “Sorry for dragging you into this...”
“Don’t mention it,” he replied, coughing softly for a moment before continuing. “I’m doing alright I guess. The pain meds are certainly helping. And it wasn’t your fault. I didn’t detect anything threatening either, and it is almost impossible to detect a programmed overload, which is what I think that was. From what I saw, my guess is they were linked together and then used to simulate the severe damage to the nacelle that wasn’t there. That explains why it looked so bad and then vanished.”
Marina didn’t know anything about the damage, but what he said made sense. “I was just asked to look for anything suspicious. I guess this means that if the power over load didn’t cause much damage, the Jefferson may be much closer to being ready to leave than previously estimated.” Turning back to Nathan, Ensign Garrett added, “You should probably inform Commander T’Ress and the bridge about this, and all damage should be confirmed as legitimate. We might be able to follow the shuttles sooner rather than later. It’s probably important to get underway quickly.”
“I don’t think the power overload would have caused much damage,” Brad added. “My guess is it would have destroyed the devices and probably blown out the one console but otherwise left the nacelle untouched, a little scorched but functioning.”
<Tag Nathan>
While the doctor was reporting, Marina closed her eyes for a moment. Her head was throbbing, probably from when it had come into contact with the bulkhead, and the lights were only making it worse. She was well aware that Megan was off on an away mission, but the security officer suddenly wanted her sister there. Say what she would about the elder Garrett being too serious all the time, no fun, and far too tightly wound for her own good, the one thing she had always counted on was her presence, protection, and support when things got bad, and she needed that.
Now that what had happened to her was catching up, Marina began to sniffle. As Nathan finished his comm call and moved back toward her, the security officer felt a tear slide down her face. “I want my sister. Do you know where she is or when she’ll be back? I need my sister here with me,” she requested rather pathetically.

Joint Post between Megan and Valad
Opening the channel at the frequency he requested, Megan was still trying to get over the surprise of finding him onboard as well. “I didn’t realize you were here too, Ensign, but I’m glad to see you’ve avoided detection. I’m fine at the moment, just being held in some sort of holding cell with one guard, who doesn’t pay attention when he’s here. I’m already working on infiltrating their systems, and the Sommers is following discretely. If anything goes wrong, I should be able to get us both out as soon as I gain access to the freighter’s shields. What is your current condition?”
“You wont believe this Commander. The blackmail team didn’t have only one victim, or should I say doesn’t have only one victim.” He took one last look around. “There are sixteen stasis tubes up here, each holding a humanoid female. I checked their computer and all of them have had DNA extracted. One tube is already operational and I suspect it was the one that was supposed to be used for Nathan’s alleged female companion. There is only one problem: she’s dead.”
Pondering this new information, Megan brought up a full ship scan and found what he was talking about, much to her dismay. “That means they’ve been holding onto the girls after they give birth rather than simply letting them go or disposing of them. While I’m glad they haven’t been killed that is very…unusual. We’ll have to remember to make sure they get rescued as well. Have you found any information regarding their next target?” Commander Garrett asked. “They should be warned.”
“I have. Each of these women was used on a different man of power in the Alpha Quadrant. Most of them are part of the Federation in some aspect of Diplomacy. Most are civilians, but still prominent. They’re next target is a dignitary from K’Normia. Terrak Mosadle. Not a very high up in the heiarchy but obviously has some play somewhere. I still have not figured out what motive they have for this.” Valad paused for a moment not willing to give the next piece of information he discovered. “Commander, as I just said, there is one tube ready to be used. It still needs a victim. I have discovered that the new subject is . . . . you.” He couldn’t bear to tell her that, but he knew that if he didn’t, she would be sure to make him suffer for not doing so. “We need to get you out of here somehow.”
Megan had already realized that coming aboard the freighter meant that she was slated to be the next victim used in the blackmailing scheme, but the stasis pods put a whole new spin on things. She’d be perfectly happy to sit in a cell and use her tricorder to take them down from within for days even, but the idea of being stuffed into some sort of…coffin almost and to lose control of the situation by being placed unconscious was not what she had in mind. There was no way that was happening. “Not so fast, Ensign,” she replied, pushing back the feeling of dread at the idea of those stasis pods. “Right now, they don’t suspect me as a threat, and they feel no rush to stick me in there. Their most pressing concern is the Cardassians that are after them, and that might just buy us some time. The moment I escape, that will shift their attention from the Cardassians back to us, and we want to put that off.”
Valad spoke immediately, “Commander you know how I feel about that. I don’t think that Commander Pride made it aboard, which means that it is just us. And that means that I am second in command of this mission. You need to be aware that I refuse to let any harm come to you while we are here. If I see any sign of trouble, I’m coming in with phasers blasting.” He was very firm in his statement.
Sighing in frustration, Megan replied just as quickly. “You may be second in command, but I’m still in command, Ensign. Look...right now they’re so distracted and so not threatened by me they left me alone in here. There’s no need to create a problem where none currently exist. I realize there will eventually be a problem, but there’s no need to encourage it to happen sooner. Instead, why don’t you let me continue doing my job, you do yours, and we’ll deal with getting me out when it comes to that,” Commander Garrett insisted, forcing herself to remain calm in spite of him. “Now, I’ll continue working on their systems, while you work on downloading their database to the Sommers. I’ll have to arrange access through your tricorder, but I can find a way. In the meantime, you should stay in the room with the stasis pods. That way, you can make sure the girls remain unharmed and be in position to help me out should they decide to put me into stasis,” Megan ordered, hoping he would take a hint, realize this was a perfectly good, safe plan, and choose to just follow it.
He didn’t argue with her this time. “I’ll keep searching for anything that might be immediately useful while I download. I’ll keep you informed.” Valad stopped dead and looked up. He cut the signal and went straight for a access ladder that took him to another ventilation shaft

grandfather & grandson "Freddy is there something that you would like to do?" Caleb asked as he stopped the group in front of the holodeck doors," lets do something that you want, but please no holodeck stories."
The younger boy looked up at his grandfather, frowning. “Could we go to the beach?” he queried, “or perhaps opa Jonathan's old farm? Auntie Sonak gave dad a progam a while ago, which had his farm and loads of horses and other animals.”
Peter's smile widened, remembering his father's old farm and he could well understand why his daughter had created such a program. “Does that sound acceptable to you Caleb?” he asked the other boy, “have you ever ridden a horse or a pony? Yes, I think that's safe enough for you boys, riding a pony or a horse.”
Having grown up among the horses, Peter knew like no other how to ride and tend to one. And it was something he'd gladly pass on to another if they were interested.
=/\="Commander Reynolds to Peter van Breughel, I know this is short notice, but I have a favor to ask of you," Jason said as he tapped his combadge. He didn't know this man, but he assumed he was trustworthy. If Matt could trust him with his son, then Jason knew that he could trust this man with his children.=/\=
“Go ahead commander, what can I do for you?” Peter answered the comcall. “I'm somewhat occupied right now but if it's not too much I'll see how I can help you.”
"Uncle Jason, I totally forgot you were still on board," Caleb said sounding a bit embarrassed," can the boys join Freddy, Doctor van Breughel and myself? We are going to to the holodeck."
Ah, so this was the captain's brother then, interesting. He listened as the boy's uncle responded, a slight frown creasing his brow. Two boys was one thing, but four? A four year old and a ten year old were already a handful for a man in his late seventies. Yet, he was used to dealing with children, thus it shouldn't – in his own opinion – be a problem at all.
=/\="I do hate to ask, but I have to report to the bridge in a few minutes and I need someone to look over my son's and I would like them to spend time with their cousin."=/\=
“That's all right commander. We're about to enter holodeck one. Do your boys like horses, commander?” Peter chuckled to himself, wondering why it was that horses always seemed to excite small boys. Was it the association with old 19th and 20th century cowboys? Or was it something else?
A little later, he watched the commander approach at a run with two excited 3-year olds sprinting ahead of him as fast as their short legs could carry them. For youngsters they were actually pretty fast and in no-time they had tackled their older cousin. “Opa, when will I see my cousins again?” his grandson entreated.
“Soon,” Peter promised, “when the Vesuvius gets back to Assailant. She's on a very important mission now but perhaps they'll come visit soon. I'll pass the message along, I promise.” The boy smiled in response as he watched the other three, feeling a little left out.
"Guys stop running around like crazy people," Jason said as he ran after his children. To his luck, they didn't have to run much since a second later they found the two hugging Caleb," I'm sorry about that Caleb. Doctor van Breughel thank you a lot."
“Don't worry about it,” the old man responded, holding out his hand towards the younger man. “Please, call me Peter. Like my son, I prefer that my first name is used over watching people struggle to pronounce my last. I assume you've already seen him in sickbay?”
Peter shook his head. “No matter, you can safely go about your duties. The boys will be all right with me, I do have experience with children, having raised three of my own.” He chuckled. “And I now have ten grandchildren to look after, given the opportunity.”
Nathan ”Is Ben going to be OK doctor?”
Nathan nodded gravely. “He should be,” he promised, “though he sustained severe injuries.” Together, they watched as Ben regained consciousness, then listened as Marina and Ben exchanged a few words.
He stepped away to give them some privacy, until he was called back.
“You should probably inform Commander T’Ress and the bridge about this, and all damage should be confirmed as legitimate.
“I have already informed the bridge,” Nathan replied, his voice still grave and suppressing anger. He had been looking forward to his morning off but now he was yet again pressed into service. He began wondering if he was ever entitled to having some time off as he always seemed to be working, has his father and Jayden both had so finely pointed out to him only last night.
“I don't know about the technicalities,” he added, looking thoughtful, “I'm hardly an engineer. I can fix a biobed but that's the extend of my engineering skill. However I have seen the damage to the nacelle and this just can't be mere sabotage by causing a power overload.”
As in afterthought, Nathan tapped his combadge. “Commander T'Ress, please report to sickbay. I have a patient who has important information for you. Incidently, could you please get my decrypted message back to me?” He was getting slightly irritated over the fact that nobody seemed to be in much of a hurry to inform him what was in the message that was sent to him, albeit decrypted and unreadable – to him at any rate.
Then he realised Marina had asked a question. "Your sister?" he asked, the information not dawning on him at all. "Who is your sister?" he added, as if in afterthought.
Jayden Mitchell In their quarters, Jayden had let Cyle know immediately that he wouldn't be turning up for his shift, but that he would say home to 'guard' his partner's baby daughter. It was only part truth; he did guard the baby but he also just wanted to spend some time with her. Especially if he was, due to them living together, somewhat posing as 'the other parent'.
He leaned back on the couch, cradling the infant girl close to him, watching as she settled big blue eyes on him. Barely a day old and already in so much danger, Jayden mused as he smiled down on her. Instantly, he felt the pain of having lost his own daughter to a vengeful family and having no means to get in touch ever again.
Tiny fingers closed around one of his own, gripping it firmly and the marine admired the little one's strength. "You're a feisty one," he murmured with a grin, rocking her in his arms. The infant made intelligeable sounds, to which the marine felt more at home by the second. "Don't worry Angel, I'll keep you safe. I promised your daddy I would, and I will."

Looking at his Captain he smiled a little it seemed they needed a little stress relief. He started plotting a course to follow the frieghter and made sure he left enought of a trail for someone to follow.
" Captain the trick will be to get these guys to fight each other, and I dont think that will be to hard to pull off. Might I suggest change the weapons signature to match both our friends out there. It would get them fighting each other if I plan it right call it a ace in the hole I do believe its called. They'll wonder who fire first and check the signature and by then it will be to late. Might by us some time to get our friends back and then we can sit down and discuss what happend"
In truth he wanted to know about Commander Garrett shuttle he was starting to remember a few things about past ships. If his concern was right then Commander Garrett was alot more then she seemed. Although with out more proof there would be nothing he could do but it would settle his sense down alittle.

"Commander I am going to run a system wide diagnostic to see if we can't figure this out. Is that alright Commander?"
The feline listened to the engineer, nodding quickly with a second purr. Thinking for a moment, he nodded once again in a more thoughtful manner, “This sounds like an excellent idea.” His tail swirled around slowly in his deep, aforesaid, contemplation. “A system wide, level two diagnostic, murr, would be of the best choice. I wouldn’t recommend a full overhaul level one for the time being. After all, that would require the investigation of systems on an echelon that is impossible with the current ship’s running condition.”
J’Varr T’Ress then smirked a bit, raising a brow, “Make it so. Murrow, I always wanted to say that.” He then returned to his console, handling the message data that was still on his plate from before. It certainly did not seem as though he was going to be able to end the day any time soon by any metric of the word. Rather, this was going to get longer and longer.
And even longer, it seemed, as his combadge went off.
“J'Varr!” Nathan called, “get your furry [word deleted] up here immediately! I need a damage control team, stat!”
Visibly concerned, T’Ress’ tail froze up as his head, itself, looked upwards. He could feel the fur on his spine stand up straight as he was forced to request something of the computer, “Computer! Locate Doctor Nathan van Breughel.”
=^= Doctor Nathan van Breughel is in the Port Nacelle Assembly =^=
Lieutenant Christopher Schilling, and Chief Brian O'Malley were immediately called up to be alongside the feline. Considering the urgency of the medical doctor’s voice, however, he decided that they should not waste any further time gathering materials. Instead, they grabbed whatever tools were conveniently alongside of them, and in anticipation, the feline looked upwards again, as he often did when addressing the computer.
“Computer, authorize site to site transport for one damage control team, on my mark…. Mark!”
He then felt himself evaporate into the all too familiar matter-energy stream.
Armed only with a single hypospanner and iso-modulator each, the three engineering officers rushed into the long chamber, glaring at the fiery tempest that they materialized into. Trying to maintain his ability to think rationally under such conditions, the feline gasped as he looked around, grabbing at the pair of tools that he had brought to try and bring rebellious conduits into regulated array so that no further damage would be done. Furthermore, he hoped to avoid an even greater tragedy. Then he heard his combadge ring once again.
"Commander J'Varr T'Ress."
"Commander T'Ress please repond," Jason said hoping to speak to the current ship's commanding officer.
T’Ress tapped his abovementioned communicator and nodded, trying to keep out the interference of the situation that was somewhat still at paw, “Murr, T’Ress here.”

Valad could honestly say that his heart was beating abnormally fast. He never got nervous when it came to sneaking around and eaavesdropping. He could here as two Romulans come in who he identified as Zabrak and Dekk. The two talked about their mission:
"We need to accelerate the plan. With these Starfleet on our warp trail we have no time for this foul play."
"Zabrak, calm down. The plan is going as scheduled. Everything is in place."
"Not with those damn Cardassians following too," Zabrak intererrupted. "We must go to execute the second minister now. The whole plan is now at stake thanks to your involving that Federation Doctor."
Dekk snorted, "The doctor is a part of the plan still, Zabrak. And do I need to remind you who is in command on this ship?"
"No . . . " his communicator beeped. "What?" It said something Valad could not hear. "What are you sure?" Valad strained to listen. "Track the signal and find them. Now! See Dekk and this is why we never follow your orders." Zabrak tapped the communicator and four other Romulans walked in. "I am taking command of this ship. Take him to the holding cell with our new victim."
What the hell is going on here? His feet slipped and he grabbed the wall for support. It made a loud clang.
"What was that?" yelled Zabrak. He looked up. "The Starfleet is in the ventilation shaft! After him!"
"Damn!" Valad rushed upwards as the shaft cover fell from beneath him. Disruptor fire came up and nearly hit him as he reached an horizontal access tube. He heard the Romulans come after him. He moved on.
ooc: To be continued in a JP with Megan.

"I'll keep that in mind Commander, but right now I need to know that both Commander Garrett and Ensign Tavik are safe," Matt said as he looked at small viewscreen to his right. The Cardassians and the freighter were going to be to much for the Seraph to handle and Commander Pride's idea would solve a lot of problems for them, but he couldn't take the chance that the freighter would be destroyed with his crewmembers on it.
"Incoming message."
"From whom?" Matt asked the computer knowing full well that it couldn't be the Jefferson.
"Commander Garrett."
"That's not possible," Matt said as he tried in vain to trace the source of the transmission. At that moment, Matt knew that some of his suspicions of Megan were true. There was no way to verify that the message was coming from his first officer, but Matt's gut was telling him that it was her. Realizing that she had yet to do anything that would cause him to stop trusting her, Matt tried to respond to her message.
"Computer send out a distress call using these frequencies,"Matt said hoping that Megan's magical tricorder would be able to pick up his message from so far away.
"Commander Pride what do you remember about Commander Garrett's shuttle design?" Matt asked hoping to understand the situation completely," I'm sure you've tried its prototype."
(Desert)
"Commander increase speed, I want to be less than a hundred thousand kilometers from that freighter," Matt said knowing at that distance the freighter would be able to tell that a Starfleet vessel was following them. Hopefully the Cardassians would see them and take action.
"Computer once we reach the hundred thousand threshold contact the Jefferson immediately," Matt said hoping that by now most of the repairs would be finish. If things went there way, the Jeffersoun would be able to catch up to them within six hours.

"Commander Pride what do you remember about Commander Garrett's shuttle design?" Matt asked hoping to understand the situation completely," I'm sure you've tried its prototype."
Looking up at his captain he wasn't sure how to answer the question. He had flown countless ship designs. It was hard to keep track of them all but Garrett Shuttle had been bugging him every since he had gotten near it. Some where in his past another ship had done the samething. They had to call in another test pilot because it had kept messing up his sense when he was piloting it.
"Captain I'm beging to think there's more to the commander then she would like everybody to know. I have no solid proof to offer and it would be very hard to prove other wise. About 1 year ago I was order to fly a shuttle. It had some pretty advance designs cloak and holographic technology. This ship was not for general star fleet use it was designed at the request of Star Fleet intelligence."
" I was unable to complete the test flight because those systems when active cloud my senses and throw me off track. I never completed the test flight they brought in another pilot for it. I never saw the ship again after that and was order to forget it and not to talk about it again with anybody. After all star fleet isn't suppose to design ship like that according to peace treaties we have signed."
" I have already reaveled to you something that was suppose to be secert. I hope you will do me the favor of keeping to yourself. Commander Garrett ship has had the same effect on me that I went through all those years ago sir. I can't prove it but I would suspect the way it handles and what she has it doing now its one and the same" <tag Reynolds>

"Commander, I know that we barely know eachother, but please realize that I will never betray the confidience and trust of my officers," Matt said as he faced his helm's officer. As a commanding officer and as a man, Matthew Reynolds felt that having the trust of his officers was the most important part of the job," as for Commanger Garrett, I have had my suspicions for some time now, but right now that does not matter."
(Pride) Not wanting to dwell on the unpleasant subject, Matt decided that it was time to take matter into their own hands. The Seraph was about to come into sensor range. No one knew what was going to happen when they did, but Matt was ready for the worst.
"Computer hail the freighter," Matt said coming up with a very dangerous idea.
"What do you want?" a man who Matt assumed to be the freighter captain asked.
"My ship was damaged and I was hoping to trade with you. May I come aboard your vessel?" Matt asked hoping the Cardassians would make there presence known.
