He was grateful for the captains understanding and willingness to keep things quite. As he watched the captain hail the freight and ask for help He quitely overloaded a minor system to make it spark and and pop in the back round. It would make the captain story more believable. He also piped up to make sure his comments were over heard on the com system.
"The darn Cardassians over loaded our systems we wont be able to stay in one peace much longer if we dont get some help"
He had hope they would by the captain story if anything just to take there ship but they would have to wait and see what would happen.
He kept thinking about Commander Garrett shuttle and where it was now. He closed his eyes and concentraited again. To see if he could pick it up or at least get a general idea of where it was at. He found it just at the extreme range of his sense and she wasn't visible to senors. If he needed any proof for himself he just got it.

Valad cawled through an access tube, avoiding disruptor fire at various points. It was hard not knowing the layout of the ship and it wasn’t much better that he was running from those that owned it. He turned a corner to try and get out of view. As he crawled, he thought of what he just heard. The Romulans were going to execute the second minister of K’Normia and Commander Garrett was going to be their next victim. It was all racing through his head so quickly. Somehow he had to get her out of there.
He caught a few second reprieve and modified his tricorder to emit a dampening so he would not be picked up by the ship’s internal sensors. By now they were certainly scanning for him. His hiding place didn’t last forever. The Romulans caught onto him and once again he was on the move. They began to open fire again, and as he dodged disruptor blasts, he found another access hatch and hurried inside. He closed the door behind him and crawled a few yards ahead. He turned around and drew his phaser and fired at the sides of the door. They fused together making it impossible to follow without using some sort of explosive device.
He hurried down the access tube and, figuring he had a few minutes of rest, took out his tricorder to scan for Commander Garrett. He found her safely in the brig. He needed to send her a message. He set up his tricorder along the frequency he used before. He was going to send her an encrypted message. He typed it in. Get out. Go to shuttlebay. Get off ship. He sent it and hoped that she would get it in time. He began to make his way to the shuttlebay.

Your sister? Who is your sister?" Nathan asked, and Marina just stared at him, her astonishment managing to break through the cacophony of emotions threatening to overwhelm her only a few moments earlier, now fading at her immense surprise.
Blinking at the doctor, Ensign Garrett didn’t know whether to snap at him or laugh, but eventually laughter won out at the completely confused expression on Doctor van Breughel’s face. Starting out as a giggle and becoming almost a roar, Marina eventually did have to stop as her head began to hurt, and taking deep staggering breaths to get enough air, she finally managed to reply. “I can’t believe you didn’t know! I figured the entire ship found out almost the moment I arrived, if not at least after I got transferred here! And Jayden knows who I am, and the Captain, and...”
The doctor looked far from pleased, both at her laughing and the fact that he had been left out of the loop, but Marina, still sore from the training, grinned at him. “I’ll give you a chance to put it together. All you need to know is my last name, and that should be enough for you to figure it out. I still can’t believe you didn’t get it sooner...”

Trying to keep an eye on Ensign Tavik’s position, Megan was nonetheless caught up in her usual routine in situations like this: control the computer. The cloak was still disabled, along with internal sensors, and she’d already gained full access to shields, which mean that with the Sommers taking up position nearby, they could leave at any time, but she wasn’t quite ready to do that yet. Although Commander Garrett had disabled the cloak to ensure the Seraph and Jefferson could track and follow them, the addition of the Cardassians meant that disabling shields, engines, and weapons was far less desirable than simply gaining control of them. As such, the situation required much more direct involvement to ensure the ring was brought to justice, especially not knowing what business these Cardassians had with them.
As Commander Garrett continued to work on the propulsion systems, her tricorder signaled an incoming communication from the Seraph. Running a quick check, she found that the Captain had broadcast a distress call on the same frequency she’d used to send him a message, which her shuttle had picked up and relayed to her tricorder. Staring at the blinking indicator, Megan weighed her options. She knew Captain Reynolds obviously wanted her to respond, but at the same time, opening a comm channel was risky. It had been risky enough with Valad, and that was in-ship. Shaking her head, the First Officer instead sent a command for the Sommers to send an automated status report, hoping that would manage to suffice for now.
Quickly turning back to the task at hand, some sort of automated alarm sounded, causing her to check the sensors for the problem. It was an indication of weapon’s fire, and unfortunately, it was in the same vicinity as Ensign Tavik. That changed everything, and leaping to her feet, Commander Garrett instantly decided her cover was up. Within a few second, the forcefield was dropped, and Megan switched her external disguise off. The black bodysuit was a welcome relief from the barely there concoction she’d been wearing, but she’d still need to pull her hair back eventually.
Pulling her phaser from her now visible boot, the corridor appeared to be clear, but better yet on the other side of the forcefield was an access hatch to the maintenance systems. Two Romulans were already heading in her direction, but she quickly got an idea, removed the holographic disguise program from the bottom of her boot, and programmed it to create the simple image of herself. It was far too simple to fool them for very long, and was entirely non-interactive, but it might give them just enough time. Tossing the device into the corner before reactivating the forcefield, Megan hurriedly slid the door open and crawled inside, remotely turning the holo-projection on and setting the autodestruct sequence to detonate when disturbed.
Almost before the hatch closed behind her, the tricorder reported another incoming message, this time from Valad. Once she’d reached the first junction point, Megan stopped to read it and locate his position. ‘Get out. Go to shuttlebay. Get off ship.’ Not the most eloquent but certainly got to the point. The tricorder was tracking him based on its link to his own scanning device, and it was clear the shuttlebay was where he was heading. And this was when Commander Garrett got another idea.
With her access to the shields, Valad could be beamed right to the Sommers, but that would raise even more suspicion if he just suddenly disappeared. Not only that, but she wasn’t quite ready to leave just yet. Someone needed to be on the freighter to disable their systems when the Jefferson arrived and to keep them functioning when confronted by the Cardassians, and Megan wasn’t leaving those girls behind either. The operations officer was already well on his way to the bay, and he had lost those following him, so the she opened the channel between their tricorders
“Ensign, I’m already out of the brig and have access to the Sommers, so I’ll beam out instead. We need a shuttle to get stolen so they won’t be aware of my shuttle’s presence. The Seraph is nearby, so once you’re out, I want you to head for it. I’m working on getting the bay doors open for you now, but I still don’t have weapon’s control, so you’re going to need to raise shields and conduct evasive maneuvers.”
<Tag Valad>
As soon as he replied, the Sommers began to signal that the Seraph was coming within range. Accessing her shuttle’s sensors, it confirmed that, and also indicated the Captain was hailing the freighter. Megan did not have full access to the comm system, but the channel wasn’t encoded, so she was able to hear the conversation. Needing to talk to Matt without alerting those on the freighter’s bridge, Commander Garrett sent a quick message to Pride’s station, informing him Tavik was about to break out using a shuttle before turning her attention back to opening the bay doors.

He was a little startled to see a message come across his screen from Commander Garrett. It wasn't that he was shocked she be able to pull it off just that she was already working on a way to get off the frieghter on her own.
Turning to face the captain he muted the com channel. " Sir just got word from Commander Garret it would appear they are already working on a way to escape. Ensign Tavik is about to steel a shuttle for his escape. I would suggest we provide some cover they are not going to be happy. At this close range even with full shields he's not going to beable to take to many direct hits."
He started to program a attack run in case it was needed it focus was the engines. The more damage he did to them the less chance of them escaping. He was still concerned about there friends who were following and which side they would take. Knowing them chances were always good that they would be on there own side and everybody else was a enemy.
He waited for his Captains orders but, he was still concerned about commander Garrett. How she planned to get of the ship was not in the message at all. He knew these thoughts were running in there Captains head.
" Sir there might be away for her to escape with Valad, if he stays inside there shields while we distract them he could beam her out. The only problem would be making sure it was timed right and that we cause a big enough distraction for them to ingnore the other alarms and focus on us. I think I can do it but it will require your help I can focus on the shields and find the week spot and start pounding on that area, I can't fly the ship though because I would be focused on that area in the shields and following it when they rotate them. I can keep track of it quicker then the senors you'll just have to follow my firing pattern to keep us on that spot" <tag Reynolds>

Valad had finally lost the Romulans as he moved closer to the shuttlebay. At this point all he could hope was if the Commander had gotten his message. He moved down a corridor, once again keeping to the shadows. He came across an computer access panel. He activated it and began to assess whether the shields were still intact. They still were. He moved along to the shuttlebay. Valad took out his tricorder and scanned the area around him for anyone.
Suddenly his comm badge activated.
"COmmander, how long until you are off the . . ." he stopped. "I'll contact you when I am off the ship. Tavik out." He hurried along. THe shuttlebay was just a few meters ahead and so far there weren't any Romulans near him. He walked into the shuttlebay and surveyed the ships available. Since it was a small shuttlebay, and the only one, there were four small assault shuttles and also Dekk's shuttle. I thought we secured that? He moved to each of the assault shuttles, and tapped a few buttons on the inside panels. Finally he went to Dekk's shuttle and initiated the launch sequence. The shuttlebay doors were still not open. Come on, Commander. He finished the the sequence and realized he had only forty eight seconds to get out of that shuttle bay. Just then, the doors opened. Valad smiled as he flew Dekk's shuttle out of the bay.
He scanned the area around the shuttle and had to come to a full stop since the shields were still up. He went in a slight reverse and began to fly along the hull of the freighter. He picked up a reading of a fire coming out of the shuttlebay. He smiled. Oops. He scanned around the ship homing to find the sommers. Instead he found the Seraph approaching the freighter. He hailed them. "Tavik to the Seraph. Do you read?"

Finally, the penny seemed to drop and the human's eyes widened in surprise as the information finally registered. "She's your sister?" he breathed, looking down at her in disbelief. "Oh hell, how could I have missed that?" He joined in with her laughter, realising he had desperately needed that. "I'm so sorry," he added, "I should've realised. What was I thinking?"
Still laughing he turned to the other bed. "How do you feel now?" he asked as he checked his patient's vitals. "You'll be stuck to this bed for a while to come but you'll make a full recovery if you follow your doctor's orders."
Nathan turned around, back to Marina. "Stay put," he ordered, "no doubt you'll throw up if you try to sit up. Give it a few hours and I'll see if you can return to the bridge for light duty." A frown creased his brow as he ran a hand through his hair. "Any word from Megan?" he then asked of her, before switching subjects once again. "What happened up there Marina, why were you in the nacelle? Are we under attack?"
He looked positively worried. "Are my children in danger?" he then continued, his worry increasing exponentionally.
Elsewhere on the Jefferson, Peter van Breughel was watching the four children tend to the horses and he smiled. He remembered taking his own children to his father's farm when he was still alive. Especially his daughter loved the horses and he could well understand why she had created this program. It was most relaxing and the view stretched out quite far.
He felt a shiver run through the ground. then looked up to see four horses run by at full speed. Seeing no reason for alarm, Peter walked up to the boys, reaching to put Kyle on top of one of the horses. "Hold on to his mane," he instructed as he held on tight to the child. "Caleb, get your other cousin and hand him up to me." He smiled. "You and Freddy'll get your turn next ok?"
"Opa..." Freddy tried to get his attention but Peter couldn't divert it from the young Reynolds twins. "Opa..." The holodeck shook again, then the program vanished and Peter was barely able to catch Kyle. Then, his vision exploded as someone hit him hard on the back of his head and he pitched forward, hitting the deck hard.
"Grab the children," a deep male voice ordered, "silence them, we don't want to attract attention."
"What about the old man?" a second, raw voice asked.
"Leave him, he's harmless. It's the children we want. Careful though, he seems to be coming to."
The second male struck down again. "No he isn't," he grinned, baring a badly cared for row of teeth into a smile. "He'll be out for a while now, I hit him good."
The group of men held the boys close to them and vanished as quickly as they'd come. A fair while later, Peter groaned and opened his eyes, sitting up carefully then allowing himself to fall back as he threatened to faint. The holodeck was dark around them and concerningly quiet. Where he had expected either laughter or fearful cries from the boys, there was absolute silent, aside from the sound of blood rushing past his ears.
The old doctor tapped his combadge, while still lying down. "Van Breughel to bridge. Mr Reynolds, we have a problem..." He hesitated, then continued with a hint of fear and regret in his voice. "Someone attacked me on the holodeck sir...and I have bad news." The old man could hear the sharp intake of breath on the other end of the line. "I'm afraid the boys were taken, all four of them. I don't know who or what..."
Now, there was even a harder task; contact his son to tell him Freddy was missing. For now, he decided that it might not be such a good idea. Instead, he contacted Jayden.
"Don't move," the marine ordered quietly, "I'm sending someone to get you. I can't leave my quarters and I'm not risking Angelique." Jayden tapped his combadge again. "J'Varr, there seems to be a problem at holodeck one, can you have a look? There's someone injured, sickbay needs to be informed as soon as you get there." The young marine understood why his partner's father requested that Nathan not be informed just yet. His emotional state was still very fragile and this news would hit him very hard. "Ask for Hannah Lowell," he instructed, "under no circumstance alert Nathan of this situation, understood?"

=/\=Commander, how long until you are off the…I'll contact you when I am off the ship, Tavik out,=/\= Valad replied, causing Megan to smile as the channel closed. It finally seemed like the operations officer had figured out that she could take care of herself or at least that she didn’t take kindly to being checked up on constantly.
It took some quick programming, but Commander Garrett did eventually figure out how to get the bay doors to open, and after blocking a command for them to close again from the bridge, Ensign Tavik was out. As he pulled away, Megan opened the shield access to drop them, only to be sent slamming headfirst into a bulkhead by the unexpected and jarring tilt of an explosion. Then, there was only darkness.
~
"She's your sister?" Nathan finally stammered after a long, shocked silence. "Oh hell, how could I have missed that?" After it finally seemed to sink in, he actually laughed too. "I'm so sorry…I should've realized,” he added. “What was I thinking?"
Before Marina could reply, the doctor’s attention was drawn by Ben on the biobed next to her. Shaking her head, and still chuckling a little at how an intelligent and observant person like a doctor could miss something so big and obvious, Ensign Garrett rubbed her forehead wondering why her head was still throbbing. Getting an idea, the security officer carefully shifted her weight onto her elbows and tried to push herself up off of the biobed. Who really wanted to stay in sickbay anyway...?
"Stay put," Nathan ordered as he turned back, seeming to know what she was up to before she’d eve started. "No doubt you'll throw up if you try to sit up. Give it a few hours, and I'll see if you can return to the bridge for light duty," he replied calmly. Grumbling slightly, Marina settled back down on the biobed. He was probably right anyway. While her stomach wasn’t feeling so bad, there was no point in risking it. After a moment’s pause, Nathan spoke again. "Any word from Megan?" he asked.
“Nope,” Marina replied, running her fingers through her hair to brush out the snarls and tangles and trying to smooth it back into order. “That doesn’t surprise me much though. Meg’s not so great at staying in touch. I’d hear from her maybe a few times a year, birthdays, Christmas... Even Mom would only hear from her once a month or so, at the most. She’s been pretty much gone since she joined the Academy.”
It didn’t seem like Doctor van Breughel had even been listening much, as he kept standing there thinking before speaking again. "What happened up there, Marina; why were you in the nacelle? Are we under attack? Are my children in danger?"
Blinking at the sudden barrage of questions, Marina tried to figure out what to say. “To be honest, I don’t know a lot about what’s going on,” she finally admitted. “After all I did just get here. I was sent to the nacelle to look for anything suspicious and found some device on the hull with holographic signatures. Ben found another one linked with a console. He theorized they were used to create false sensor data on the status of the nacelle, which would mean we thought the Jefferson couldn’t go instead of the shuttles, whoever stole the body perhaps. That’s all I know though.”
Seeing Nathan look worried, the security officer felt bad for him and added, “Look, I know you’re worried about your kids, but I haven’t seen or heard of anything that suggests there’s anyone here who isn’t supposed to be. It looks like all of this was set and done back while we were still docked. We’ve done at least two, complete searches of the ship and found no indication of any intruders. I’m sure everything’s fine,” Marina tried to reassure him, reaching out to place her hand gently over his.

J’Varr T’Ress finally found some time away from the operations of the vessel, and its subsequent repairs, and the now completed damage control job to finally get the word through to the ship’s physician.
He still found some security risk in it all, or at least perceived it. Furthermore, he felt he could not be sufficiently diplomatic in the undertaking of it. Therefore, he felt that composing a message electronically, available in a drop box that was only open to the doctor was the best way.
Doctor Nathan van Breughel would be alerted that he had the message waiting by a chime to his combadge and could be accessed from any PADD that he was able to identify himself to.
{Doctor Nathan van Breughel, Ship’s Doctor
This is J’Varr T’Ress here. I have the contents of that message to deliver to you. That being said, they are not pretty. I trust that you will be able to handle them with the proper heed and concern. I also trust that you will not do anything at all rash about it. I felt a bit strange about telling you in person, so I have elected to do so in a different fashion, and have thus composed this text for you.
Here it comes; the message in its entirety:
Doctor Nathan van Breughel - Chief Medical Officer - U.S.S. Jefferson
We are responsible for the creation of your daughter and death of her mother. As you may or may not be aware, we are in the business of gaining for our efforts, and as of yet, have gained nothing as the result of the trouble to create the child. We intend to remedy that situation. We will contact you with our demands once we have determined what use you can be to us. If you do not cooperate, we assure you, there will be consequences. We created your daughter, and we can take her away.
END
Well, Doctor? Are you all right then? I sincerely hope that you will not be troubled by this. If you are, do not hesitate to let me know what I can do for you.}

OFF: J'varr please refer to PM I sent you ;D
ON: "Hannah, this is Jayden. I need you to get to holodeck one immediately, there's been an accident."
Hannah looked up after dropping her fork to her plate and tapped her combadge. "Hannah here. I'm off duty, I believe Nathan's the best one to call." She frowned at Donovan, who sat across from her in the mess hall.
"I'm afraid not," the marine apologised, "the patient is his father. I don't really want to alarm him just now, he's emotionally unstable as is. Please, it's urgent."
"Well.." Hannah hesitated, upon which Donovan tapped his own combadge. "We're on our way corporal, don't worry. We'll keep this under wraps as long as we can."
"That's appreciated sir," Jayden replied, "I would've gone myself but I can't leave."
"Understood." Donovan too dropped his fork and rose to his feet, pulling Hannah up with him. "We'll continue this another time," he promised, "duty calls."
~a little later~
Hannah leaned over the sprawled form of Doctor Peter van Breughel. "Doctor, look at me. Can you hear me?"
Peter squinted. "Oh hello Hannah...and Hannah." He tried to sit up but Hannah and Donovan both held him down. "Oooh my head."
While Donovan wielded the medical tricorder, Hannah checked his reflexes. "Definitely a concussion," she told her companion, before looking down at Peter again. "Peter, I'm going to sit you upright now. Don't move your head, preferably just keep looking down if you can."
With the marine's assistance, they sat the old man up. Donovan scowled under his breath as he indicated the blood in the old man's hair. "They struck him good, and more than once," he growled, "and it looks like he was kicked as well. Two broken and one cracked rib."
The two looked up when more people filed into the holodeck. "I called the bridge," Peter informed them groggily, his words slurred a little. He groaned as Hannah and Donovan lowered him back down to the deck. "Owww. Oh those poor boys...I'm so sorry..."
Donovan squeezed his shoulder. "Not your fault sir," he tried, "you couldn't have seen it coming." He rose to his feet as Commander Jason Reynolds walked in, J'Var T'Ress close on his heels. The look on the Human's face was far from friendly. "Hold your horses commander," the marine warned softly, "he was hurt bad."
Hannah too rose to her feet. "I have to get him to sickbay as soon as possible, so be quick if you want to question him. And I'll be sure to intervene if you go too far."
In the mean time, Peter struggled to his feet, swaying a little as he tried to keep his lunch where it belonged. Donovan moved up to support him. "Steady doctor," he whispered, "we'll get you lying down again in a minute, in a nice bed in sickbay."
~even later~
The two medics assisted the old doctor to a bed, just when Nathan was looking away to tend to Marina, quietly keeping up his conversation with her. "Good, he's distracted," Donovan whispered as they helped Peter onto a bed. "Let's hope he stays that way. He'll go mad if he hears his son is missing."
"No.." Peter murmured, "he must be told, sooner rather than later."
"Let us worry about that," Hannah answered as she pressed a hypospray against his troat. "You rest. Jason will have more questions no doubt, and when Matt returns he'll want details too." She sighed as the old doctor drifted off into unconsciousness. "He is right," she whispered, "we can't not tell him forever."
"We will, but not now. With any luck, the boys are found before they realise something is wrong."

"J'Varr, there seems to be a problem at holodeck one, can you have a look? There's someone injured, sickbay needs to be informed as soon as you get there."
The feline nodded in the air, responding on his combadge that he would be able to be right over. Leaving one of the other members of the engineering staff in the ‘driver’s seat,’ so to speak, he once more grabbed his hypospanner, and placed this on his belt while his other paw reached for a tricorder.
Grasping his paws together, the feline lead himself out of the deck and onto the corridor where by he soon was able to find the turbolift. Inserting his paws across the manual control, he was able to quickly override the safety and allow the turbolift car to accelerate at a far faster rate then would usually be permitted. As soon as he exited the car, he not only saw to it that it returned to its normal safety parameters, but also, noticed how much his stomach felt as though it were in his mouth.
Activating once more the emergency controls, though this time on the first holodeck, he was able to slide the door open…or so it seemed. Instead, he was suddenly unable to have it budge any further. Grasping to the Type 1 phaser that he possessed in his inventory, he set it to full and yelled out for whatever behind to shut the door. He then looked upwards, as he always did when addressing the computer.
“Computer! Merrow, shut down any program in Holodeck 1 and sound klaxon within, clearance based on rank, T’Ress!”
=^= Acknowledged. No program currently runs. Klaxon sounded. =^=
As the aforementioned commands took control, J’Varr T’Ress deftly took the hand phaser in his paw and started to burn away the metal until he could make a path for him to squeeze through. As soon as he busted onto the scene, the feline motioned for those whom are able to evacuate the deck. Looking about, he then tapped his badge, looking to Jason as whether or not he, himself, would make the decision about how the sickbay was to be addressed. The feline understood, of course, that this was, in fact a touchy situation and not something that could be trampled over as easily as he would have liked it to be.
"Who do we call? You make it. Murr."

Watching everything happened seemed like slow motion to him, it was a trick had learned along time ago to slow events down in his mind to pickup details that might be missed. The shuttle was inside the shield but how long was a question he really didn't want answered any time soon.
"Captain he's not going to be able to stay there long if we dont get involved. We need to distract them from the shuttle and worry about us. He's going to need time to get Commander Garrett out and that will not be easy depending on where she's hiding. Not to mention if her shuttle shows up there's going to be alot of questions on both sides that we will not want to answer" <Tag Reynolds>
He started scanning for weakness in the shields along with his sense trying to find that one spot where it would count. Every ship had one it was a question and where it was at and what angle to take to get to it. He waited for his captains orders no matter what he wouldn't make a move with out his word. He would be the one to make the call and at times he didn't envey the job of walking a tight rope.

"What the hell just happened?" Matt asked as his sensors picked up the explosion. It didn't take long to realize that his officers had taken things into their own hands.
"Captain he's not going to be able to stay there long if we dont get involved. We need to distract them from the shuttle and worry about us," Pride said, "he's going to need time to get Commander Garrett out and that will not be easy depending on where she's hiding. Not to mention if her shuttle shows up there's going to be alot of questions on both sides that we will not want to answer"
"I don't think that he will be able to get Garrett out of there Commander," Matt said as he scanned the frieghter. Hopefully he would find what he needed to give them an advantage," Commander contact the Cardassians, I think I know why they are following the freighter."
"Legate, I'm Captain Matthew Reynolds of the USS Jefferson," Matt said which quickly prompted the Cardassian to bring his fleet of ships to battle ready," look I do not want a confrontation. We both have people on that freighter. I have someone inside and they will be able to get your people out of there. I need your help."
"You'll have it!" the legate said before ending the transmission.
"Commander, I hope your piloting skills are as good as your record says," Matt said as he fired on the freighter which was quickly followed by a counterattack," Commander we need to get Ensign Tavik out of there!"

Not thinking about anything but his children, Jason Reynolds immediately transported himself to Holodeck 1 where he was quickly followed by medical teams. He looked on witih horror as the metal and wiring of the holodeck littered the floor.
"Peter, where are my children? Peter where are they?" Jason asked as he found the older Van Breughel. The older man was clearly shaken up, but he did not care. His children and nephew were missing and there was nothing he could but worry.
(Peter)
"Commander T'Ress, as I understand it you are second officer, I have more tenure than you, but on this ship you are now in command," Jason said thinking logically for the first time since discovering that his children were missing," I cannot be an objective officer at the moment, but I implore you that we find my children immediately. As for Nathan, we need to tell him. I know that it will hurt him, but he has the right to know."

The next thing Megan remembered, all she could see was the dark, fuzzy outline of the access tube walls. Blinking hard to try and bring her vision back into focus, she forced herself into a sitting position, with her hand drifting to the source of the throbbing pain in her head. When she touched something sticky and pulled her hand back, she instantly recognized blood but chose to ignore it. It took a few moments for her to fully regain her bearings, and when Commander Garrett finally managed to blink back the fuzziness in her vision, shake off the impact, and sit up, she could hear the Sommers’ computer in her earpiece counting down to an emergency beam out, which had been triggered automatically when she briefly lost consciousness.
Wiping the trail of blood from her face, Megan cancelled the back-up program and began determining what happened. Once it became clear that all four small fighters in the bay had overloaded, a small smile crossed her face. That had been a very clever move, and one that would help keep the crew even more distracted. Then she suddenly realized she’d never dropped the shields, which mean that Valad in the Romulan shuttle was most likely still circling the hull inside the shield bubble. Wincing, Commander Garrett quickly brought up scans and found that Tavik was indeed still circling, and the Seraph was positioned on the other side of the shields.
‘At least being so close to their hull kept them from firing on him...’ she thought to herself, as she created a momentary disruption, which allowed the shuttle to pass safely to the other side before raising the shields once more. There was no point in lowering them permanently, as they still had weapons and the Jefferson wasn’t yet close enough to bring the freighter into custody. Megan’s next goal was to get the fifteen prisoners to safety, but beaming them directly out of stasis was a very dangerous and highly un-recommended move. Not only that, but she still didn’t have access to weapons and engines, and there was the little matter of the Cardassians.
Fortunately, the freighter crew seemed quite panicked and disorganized with some rushing to fix the damage to the bay, some at battle stations, and still others who were participating in some sort of internal conflict. It was too bad the Jefferson was still on her way because now would have been a perfect time to take them down. This may not have been the right opportunity for that yet, but Megan was hoping to at least use the advantage to rescue the girls, so feeling a little more secure about opening a channel, Commander Garrett decided it was time to speak to the Captain.
“Garrett to Seraph, I’m still on the freighter, but with access to their shields, I can beam out at anytime. There are fifteen civilians being held prisoner in stasis pods here, and we need to get them out. Beaming them out while they are still in stasis is not a good idea, and the pods are directly linked into the ship’s systems. I need to go in and prepare them for transport,” Megan reported while beginning to crawl in the direction they were being kept. There was no one in that immediate vicinity, and the crew didn’t seem to be paying much attention to anything other than their already existing problems. The Commander just hoped there would be enough time.

Looking at his Captain he closed his and nodding his head, you keep them busy I'll keep us alive. Switching the controls to manual control he started his run along the bottom of the frieghter. He was looking for the weak spot so the captain could start doing some damage.
" Sir its going to get bump you might want to strap in and hold on for a moment. Bring the shuttle with in 4 meters of the bottom of the frieghter and bringing it around the front barrel roling to come across the top. Still keeping the Shuttle with in 4 meters, it made it harder for the targeting computer to lock in on them. He knew the trick wouldn't last long but he had another one to pull and that would really get the ball roling.
" I hope our friends out there will join in soon and remember we aren't the bad guys. Commander Garrett is going to have to make this quick depending on the enemy determination I would rather blow myself up then be a visitor in a Cardasian cell. "
" I'm not trying to cause more problems just stating a face the neither of us would like to hear. She's got to hurry I'll keep us close concentrait on the aft shields the power is weakest there for the moment bring us around for a run remember were only 4 meters so angle it the fire right "<Tag Reynolds>

Hannah looked from Jason to T'Ress and back to Jason. "Whatever you decide, do it quick," she urged as she woke her patient up, so Jason could ask his questions again. "Personally, I don't think Nathan is emotionally stable enough to hear of it, but it's really your call."
"I think he should be told," Donovan agreed with the two officers, "it wouldn't be fair not to. What if something worse happens to the boys? Wouldn't you want to know?" He sighed. "I'll tell him in a minute," he promised, before restraining the old man as he wanted to sit up. "Not yet doctor," he suggested, "get your bearings first."
"Peter, where are my children? Peter where are they?" Jason asked as he found the older Van Breughel. The older man was clearly shaken up, but he did not care. His children and nephew were missing and there was nothing he could but worry.
The old doctor blinked back a few tears as his eyes focused on Jason. "I don't know," he replied sadly, visibly stricken, "they took all of them. I don't know who, I never saw them." He could no longer fight his tears and he broke down crying.
"Don't worry," Hannah soothed, injecting him with a mild sedative, "we'll find the boys." The senior nurse turned to Jason with a glare but let him speak to the chief engineer, who had accompanied Jason to sickbay, first.
"I just said we'd tell him," Hannah cut in, her voice irritated. "And not just your children were taken." She pointed to the once more sleeping doctor. "His grandson was taken, his granddaughter is threatened...there is more at stake here commander."
Donovan merely sighed, tapped T'Ress on the arm and beckoned him to follow. "I think the doctor could use a friend right now," he offered, nodding towards Nathan, who was still in conversation with Marina. "He'll want to see a friendly face, especially with Jayden stuck in their quarters with the baby."
Together, Human and Caitian walked up to the chief medical officer. "Greetings Marina. I'm going to steal your doctor away for a few minutes." He turned to Nathan, his voice grave. "Doctor, can we have a word? In your office?"
(J'Varr)
Nathan regarded the marine for a few seconds, then nodded. "My office," he repeated and led the way. He could see something was wrong, could even sense it in a perculiar way but he couldn't put his finger on it. "What is it?"
Gathering his courage, Donovan first looked at T'Ress before urging Nathan to sit down first. "There was an accident on the holodeck," he started slowly, "your father was attacked from behind and suffered a bad concussion and two broken ribs. Hannah and I think he was stuck down and kicked at least once."
He paused as he saw the doctor pale. "He'll be fine, eventually," he reassured his friend, "but that's not all of it I'm afraid. The boys were all taken by his unknown assailant. Security is on it. We'll find them Nathan..."
Donovan never got the chance to finish, for Nathan had shot to his feet and flew out of the office, straight for his father's bed. Concerned, he examined his father. "Those [word deleted]," the growled, in a for him very uncharacteristic fashion, "striking down an old man."
With great care, he eased his father back on to the bed, before finally noticing Jason. "Caleb is a responsible child," he tried, "I'm sure he'll take good care of the little ones, wherever they are."
Then, he tapped his combadge. "Cyle, get yourself down to sickbay immediately. I need you to do something for me." He waited until the senior marine rushed into sickbay. Then he indicated his unconscious father and Jason. "As you may have already heard, my father was attacked on the holodeck. Our boys have been brutally taken from his care. I want you to find them Cyle, preferably before Matt gets back."
Nathan looked squarely at Jason before he spoke next. "Matt has quite a temper Jason, I don't think he'll respond well to this news. I'm afraid he'll do something to my father when he learns. It wouldn't be the first time he lashed out before listening to reason."
He reached for his father's hand. "Don't worry dad, we'll find them. It's not your fault, don't blame yourself. You couldn't have known." He looked up. "Hannah, please take care of him?"
Hannah nodded. "You should go home. Donovan and I can take care of things from here." She wanted her boss out of sickbay now, as he wouldn't be of much use right now. "Commander Reynolds, perhaps you should accompany him?"

The feline murred carefully, nodding his head, “This I of course understand, murr. I do like to consider myself to be the doctor’s friend and I really trust that this sentiment is returned. It is, especially so, if you are telling me to engage in such things.” As always, J’Varr T’Ress had a certain way with words – that is, to say that he certainly did not know when to keep his maw shut, considering the fact that he tended to ramble on and on in long run on sentences about the most irrelevant of topics.
Together, Human and Caitian walked up to the chief medical officer. "Greetings Marina. I'm going to steal your doctor away for a few minutes." He turned to Nathan, his voice grave. "Doctor, can we have a word? In your office?"
The engineer stepped into the aforementioned office, bowing his head carefully with a flick of his tail. Taking his seat with a tilt of his head, he smiled carefully, thinking of what he was going to say. However, the once blatantly talkative was shut down by the news that they were required to give. Therefore, he allowed his partner in crime, so to speak, to deliver the news. That was, of course, until Nathan van Breughel seemed to act in an impulsive, spur of the moment manner before T’Ress’ eyes.
Donovan never got the chance to finish, for Nathan had shot to his feet and flew out of the office, straight for his father's bed. Concerned, he examined his father. "Those bad boys," the growled, in a for him very uncharacteristic fashion, "striking down an old man."
Rushing out upon feline legs, he followed after the doctor. However, despite the usual patience and agreeability of the Caitian race, he decided that this was the battle best won. Therefore, instead of attempting to stop the actions of the doctor, he would instead encourage their success.
In fact, the only serious attempt to stop the abovementioned doctor of medicine was to attempt to pass to him a phaser that was pilfered from the wall storage units that seemed only correct for carry into such a situation as the one that they both intended to allow themselves to enter into.

Instead of going straight home, Nathan walked back to his office, slamming the door shut behind him. He was visibly upset and angry, thus Hannah didn't follow him. She reached out towards T'Ress. "Don't take it personal," she offered, "he likes you." The senior nurse smiled. "He wouldn't pull your tail so often if he didn't, you know."
Pacing his office, Nathan looked back over his shoulder every odd second, looking whether someone was approaching or not. Right now, he didn't want to be comforted, at all.
"Computer, start personal log."
The computer beeped.
"Today was one of the worst days in my life," he started, then paused. "Delete record and start again."
The computer beeped twice.
"My father was hurt in an accident on the holodeck today," he started again, rubbing his eyes in frustration. "Freddy and the three Reynolds' boys were taken from his care today. From my initial examination, I saw he was hit hard on the head and suffered a bad concussion. On top of that, whoever attacked him had no sense of honour."
His voice was laced with anger and venom as he continued. "They kicked an old man while he was down and unconscious. Probably right before the children too. I don't know what I'll do when I get my hands on whoever did this."
He paused, slamming his fist against the glass window of his office. It drew a few stares but he ignored them. "There was an explosion in the port nacelle too, two security officers, one of which Commander Garrett's sister, were injured in the blast. Fortunately, they'll be released in a few hours."
Sighing, he rested his head against his arm, still leaning against the window. "Jayden's taking care of Angel, and I'm going home in a minute to be with them. I'm not sure whether taking dad is such a good idea. The old man needs more rest than he'll get at my place. Then again, who better to care for him than his son?"
He sighed again. "As I stated, but deleted, today was one of the worst days in my life. And I'll no doubt get Matt over me too when he returns. I don't think Jason informed him just yet. It's something I suppose I should do...which I'll do when I get home." He ended the log and walked back into main sickbay, before going home to prepare for his father's arrival.
Minutes later, Jayden looked up in surprise to see his partner home early, and looking more angry and upset than he'd ever seen him. "How is he?" he asked quietly, while changing the way he was holding the baby, rocking her gently as he leaned her against his shoulder. With his free hand, he reached out towards Nathan.
Nathan allowed himself to be pulled close, then looked down on his partner with haunted eyes. "He'll be fine, but he'll need plenty of rest. I need to send a message to Captain Reynolds...he has to know."
"I'll be in the bathroom, giving this little one a bath. Join me when you're ready...after I've put her to bed." It wasn't an idle suggestion; Jayden could see his partner needed cheering, and that was his aim for the evening as of now.
The doctor nodded, then set up his computer to send a message to Reynolds' shuttle. "Captain, I hope you're ready to return to the ship soon. There has been a situation.." He hesitated, then explained exactly what happened, in detail and exactly as his father had now told him.
Once the message was sent, approximately half an hour later, he joined Jayden in the bathroom. He was tired, and not just physically, but emotionally as well. He felt his heart throbbing in his chest, more pronounced than usual and he took a few deep breaths. "Only a shower," he told Jayden, who immediately sensed what was wrong and nodded in return.
"Only a shower," he confirmed, "then something to eat and then bed. I'll go visit your father when you're asleep, I promise."

The firefight was not going as planned. The Cardassians were not about to trust the word of a Starfleet officer and so they had only committed a third of their ships to engage the freighter. The three Cardassian ships and one Starfleet shuttlecraft were no match for the heavily armored ship.
"Commander Garrett, we could really use your help? Matt said in hopes that Megan would get his transmission. Even though the frieghter crew might detect his message there was little chance that they would be able to do anything about it.
Wanting to improve his chances in the battle, Matt hailed the remaining Cardassian fleet in hopes that they would fully committ to the fight. He knew that he was about to do something that he utterly detested, but he was not going to die against a group of pirates.
"USS Seraph to all Cardassian ships, please engage," Matt desperately said," I've just received intelligence that the freighter crew will begin killing their hostages. Apparently they are draining to much power from there other cirtical systems. We need to stop them now before the people you know die becuase of your mistrust of Starfleet."
Knowing that he might have just saved their lives and that of his three other officers, Matt put his guilt behind him and went back to work. Knowing that the shuttle that Valad was in would not last, it was now there priority to get him out of there.
"Commander Pride, we need to get Ensign Valad out of that shuttle, I'm not going to loose anyone today," Matt said as he felt a complete sense of loss. Matt wasn't sure, but he knew deep down that something very bad had just happened.
"Ensign Tavik prepare to beam out of that shuttle," Matt ordered not wanting to think about what might have happened," I want that shuttle on a direct path to the freighter. It won't cause much damage, but it will get there attention."
(Valad)
"Commander Garrett, I hope you have been listening because we need to end this now," Matt said as he saw the rest of the Cardassian fleet come into action.

His captain was worried and he didn't like it they were running out of time.
"I'm matching speed and course preparing to modulate shields to match there's. This is going to be a bumpy ride and then some''
"Valad suggest you program a course to know out one of there weapons system I would perfer the one that will be shooting at me as I come in. Your going to have to be quick I wont have time for another run once they know what I'm doing" <Tag Valad>
"Captain might I suggest we time this to try and get Commander Garrett out as well or at least some of those people. It might go along way to prove your right to our friends out there. They might join in with full force when they see the hostages standing front of you on the view screen" <Tag Reynolds>
The timing was going to have to be exact to pull this off no room for a mistake. Change shields setting to match to fly through there's was a big gamble but he knew the pattern and could see it. Already slowly changing there's to match waiting for the word he didn't want to move to quickly because that would give it away.

Valad circled the freighter till he found a fairly safe place to sit and wait. By now the freighter seemed to be on an automated attack pattern firing on the Seraph. As Valad prepared to leave the inside of the shield bubble, he recieved a transmission from Captain Reynolds.
"Ensign Tavik prepare to beam out of that shuttle. I want that shuttle on a direct path to the freighter. It won't cause much damage, but it will get there attention," he ordered.
As the Captain spoke to him, the shields dropped and Valad instantly set a course away from the ship. "Give me a few minutes Captain. I am downloading the shuttle's database and transmitting it to you." Valad downloaded the shuttle's computer. "Ok, transmission complete."
Commander Pride said, "Valad suggest you program a course to know out one of there weapons system I would perfer the one that will be shooting at me as I come in. Your going to have to be quick I wont have time for another run once they know what I'm doing."
"I understand Commander. Setting a course and preparing to beam over." He quickly set the course and stood up. "Tavik to Seraph. Energize." His body disassembled as he was transported over to the Seraph. He rematerialized on the Federation shuttle.
"Captain, I set it to fire all disruptors and torpedoes on the freighter's weapon system and set a collision course with the bridge. I set it to go to warp just before it hits so it will have a little more speed and power."
He watched as the shuttle fired off all weapons and rammed the freighter. "Captain, their wwapons are still functional but they have a hull breach on their bridge. The shields are back up." He scanned for Commander Garrett but couldn't find her. "We need to get Commander Garrett out of there sir."

Hurriedly crawling through the ducts towards her destination, Megan was still trying to shake the stars from her vision thanks to the blow to her head. She really hated concussions…they reminded her of when she was so sick as a kid and on her bad days even now. Still, she had a job to do, and one thing that she was good at was ignoring her health and pushing aside symptoms to keep working. The freighter was beginning to shake from repeated weapon’s fire, but this time the Commander was prepared for the sudden shifts and just managed to keep from being further injured. Between the fire fight and the internal conflict within the crew, no one was paying any attention to the unconscious prisoners or even aware she was missing.
It was a perfect situation for accomplishing her objectives, and so when Megan arrived, she easily dropped from the hatch to the floor of the empty room and after securing the door moved toward the stasis unit’s controls. It was easy enough to activate the animation sequence, but the hard part would be keeping the girls calm and then coordinating with the Seraph and lowering the shields to get them beamed out. As if on cue, her earpiece signaled an incoming audio message. =/\=Commander Garrett, we could really use your help...=/\= the frazzled voice of the Captain said.
Wincing subconsciously at her commanding officer’s tone, Megan quickly checked the sensors to see what was going on, like she probably should have been doing the whole time, and found that the fire fight was extremely intense and even with three Cardassian warships assisting, they were no match for the freighter. As she watched, Valad’s shuttle craft suddenly veered straight for them, firing all weapons before slamming into the bridge. Gasping in surprise and instinctively reaching out to steady herself as the freighter lurched sickeningly at the impact, the Commander hurriedly checked to make sure the Ensign made it out, grateful to see that he had.
In spite of the rather spectacular impact, the freighter simply absorbed it, power only flickering before forcefields sealed off the breach and the shields regrouped and sprung back to life around the vessel. Shaking her head at the tank of a ship, Megan was about to see how far the Sommers had gotten in gaining access to the weapons when the girls began to wake up, all groggy and terrified. “It’s going to be ok,” the First Officer tried to assure them as they began sitting up out of their pods and trying to jump to their feet. “I’m here to get you out of here, but I need you to remain calm and stay here with me until we can get us beamed back to the ship.”
The girls still looked terrified, but they were still confused and semi-conscious as a result of the stasis, so they just did as they were told. Using the console to try and hack into the weapon’s systems directly rather than remotely, Megan knew if the weapons were out, the freighter could still absorb a lot of hits, but they could wait for a stronger Federation vessel to show up and take custody of the crew. It was a plan she preferred to simply dropping the shields, getting out, and allowing the freighter and its crew to be destroyed by the Cardassians. However, they were quickly running out of time, and as if to emphasize that fact, another message from Captain Reynolds came through. =/\=Commander Garrett, I hope you have been listening because we need to end this now,=/\= Matt cautioned through the comm.
With the freighter crew entirely distracted, Megan felt confident enough to open an audio channel. “I have the girls out of stasis and ready for transport. I am sending you the coordinates now. I’ll drop the shields, and wait until you have all fifteen of them,” the Commander replied as she checked that her bio-dampener was activated to avoid being transported out with them and brought up access to the freighter’s shields and coordinated with the Seraph to drop them at the right time. Once they were down, she watched as the fifteen frightened prisoners faded out in groups of five. Once they were gone, the First Officer contacted Matt again, bracing herself against the renewed and much stronger weapons’ hits. “Sir, I can keep the shields down and beam myself out, but I could also raise them again to keep the freighter intact and disable their weapons from within to avoid them causing more damage until the Jefferson or another Federation ship can bring them into custody because if they stay down I think we both know the Cardassians won’t leave much behind...”

He had to admit Valad was quick and clever getting the most bang for the buck. He was about to pull the ship out of range when he heard Commander Garrett come across the channel. She had hostages ready for transport, he knew he should move to a safe range but altered course to bring them on the other side of the frieghter for cover. They might still take damage but there was a chance to get people off and he wanted to take it.
" Captain we can transport anytime your ready sir but we need to make it quick. I would also open a channel to our freinds out there so they can see who we are bring aboard. It might get us more help "

"Computer begin transporting the lifesigns around Commander Garrett coorinates," Matt said as he ordered Commander Pride to approach the freighter," Ensign Tavik, I need you to maintain order once our guest begin to arrive. They will be scared and angry, so be careful."
(Valad)
Knowing that the freighter crew would become even more desperate once they realized there cargo was missing. Hoping not to cause any more injuries, Matt concentrated all of the Seraph's weapons on the freighters weapons array.
"Commander Garrett, disable there shields! We cannot lower our shields to transport until they are down," Matt said alarmed that Megan had yet to lower the shields," something is wrong!"
Knowing that the freighter crew would soon realize that someone had just contacted a enemy ship, Matt continued to fire until the shields had finally been lowered.
"Computer begin transport now!" Matt ordered as he once again ordered Commander Pride to get closer to the freighter," Commander Garrett I don't know what happened, but once the hostages are all out I'm ordering you out of there."
(Megan)
"Tranport complete."
"USS Seraph to any Starfleet vessel, please respond," Matt said finally feeling comfortable enough to contact reinforcements directly. Even before the battle had started, the Seraph had been transmitting a distress signal.
"Seraph, we are ten minutes away from your position. How can the Lone Wolf help?" Commodore T'Mar asked.
"I'm glad to see you Commodore.........

The Soverign class USS Lone Wolf was a pleasant sight to the tired Starfleet captain. The freighter had been subdued, but it had been dififcult to keep the Cardassians from destroying her. After receiving the Gul's promise that his fleet would step down, Matt finally put his attention to the hostages that were now being taken care of by Valad. They were mostly young children, but the two adults were clearly being cautious.
"You don't have to worry, maam," Matt said as he approached the group," you will be here for only a few more minutes. We are trying to find your families and transport you there."
"Thank you captain," the Cardassian said," I'm surprised that the Federation would promote someone so young. To the Jefferson none the less."
"What do you know about the Jefferson?" Matt asked immediately intrigued by the woman. The fact that an apparent harmless Cardassian knew of his vessel worried him a little.
"Nothing captain, the Jefferson has a long history even with the Cardassian Empire.
"Captain, Commodore T'Mar wishes to speak with you," Commander Pride announced over the comm.
"I'll speak to her here," Matt replied as he opened up the channel to the superior officer.
"Captain, I will take over from here, my ship can house the hostages until we find there families, you should report back to the Jefferson," T'Mar said," something has happened."
At that very moment, Matt realized that he had received a priority message from Nathan.
