Savot and Captain Smith had the bridge to themselves as far as senior officers went. Deis had headed down to sickbay to help fix a glitch in the prognosis centers of the EMH programming, since its judgement might be needed at an instant on something the nurses and med techs weren't familiar with.
The El Salvador rocketed through space at high warp, hoping to aid the ship that sent the signal. Savot made a long-range scan of the remaining distance to establish an ETA. "Captain, at our current velocity we shall reach the distress coordinates in 46.31 minutes. Initial scans reveal no presence of any vessels in the area."

"Well, thats a start." Steve commented. "Thanks Commander."
'46 minutes?' He thought. '46 minutes until we find out what kind of mess we have been thrown into this time.'
Still seated in his chair, he turned once again to Savot.
"Savot, let me know if your scans detect anything else worth mentioning. The more we know beforehand, the better prepared we can be." He asked.

Kevin reached Torpedo Bay Two just after Remeti. He showed her the carrying case where the nanites were stored.
Kevin::gesturing towards the box:: "I've made ten of the nanite colonies so far. Two of them were unstable, and shouldn't be used. I discarded them. The other eight, however, are perfect."
Kevin bent down and took out what appeared to be a needle, the kind doctors from Earth might have used in the twentieth century. Zimmerman then retrieved two small objects from the case.
Kevin: "These are the sensors, transmittors, etc. for the nanites. I finally calibrated them so the nanites could interface with them. If you could open a torpedo for me, sir..."
Remeti::opening torpedo:: "Certainly. Where do you want to place the nanites?"
Kevin: "Actually, I'll inject them into the sensory pacs. But I can't do that until the pacs are integrated with the torpedo. The pacs will be blaced near the head of the torpedo, at its warhead."
Remeti: "I see. Here you go. I just have one question."
Kevin::as he finishes modifying the torpedo:: "What's that?"
Remeti: "Well, how do you keep control of the torpedo before launch?"
Keivn: "Actually, its quite simple. The nanites do nothing at all except follow instructions. All their instructions tell them to do is "fly" at the targeted enemy. The nanites don't even know that they will die when they hit their target. I'll show you the program I created, which you can integrate on your consul on the Bridge."

Steve checked the ETA to the source of the distress signal......10 more mintutes. He got up out of his chair and walked up to the viewscreen.
He stood right next to it, and peered out....thinking. Thinking about what lay ahead, what mysteries there may be...and of course he was also thinking of his future wife, Remeti.
After a few minutes, Steve stepped back, and a thought hit him:
'If someone came onto the Bridge right now, they would be wondering what the hell I'm doing.'
With that, he turned around to see the majority of the bridge crew staring at him, with funny looks on their faces.
"Alright, thats enough." He said, smiling. "Back to work." He was sure he heard a few muffled laughs, but went and sat back down on his chair.
"Mr Savot." He called out. "Anything new to report?" He asked.

Savot tapped at his console, conducting continuous scans the closer they got to the given coordinates. Then something definitive finally came up, "Yes, Captain. Sensors indicate the ship is no longer in the immediate area, but ionized plasma traces from their engines are leading off from their original location. Scans seem to indicate that the distressed vessel attempted to make planetfall on one of the nearby planetoids. There are 5 planets within the area, and from this range 3 can be eliminated as being unable to sustain life. The remaining two will require closer scanning once we arrive in-system."
Steven sat down at his chair, nodding to the back of Savot's head, "Very well, Zimmerman's below working on something for the torpedoes. You'll have to perform a detailed scan of the 2 M-class worlds when we come out of warp unless he returns beforehand."
Savot made no movement but for the tapping of his console, "Acknowledged Captain, awaiting system arrival."

Zimmerman entered the Bridge after completing the operation on the quantum torpedo. Captain Smith smiled.
Smith: "Done with your project, Lt.?"
Kevin: "Yes, sir. I believe it will work. D'you need anything?"
The science officer sat down in his chair.
Smith: "As a matter of fact, yes. Mr. Savot?"
Savot had soon told Kevin about the landfall the ship had probably made, and of the two possible planets that the ship could have landed on.
Kevin: "All right. I launch a couple probes as I'm doing the scans, if that's all right. Also, I'll check the planets history in relationship to the Federation - see if anyone's been there before, etc."
OFF: Sorry it's a bit short, but I'm kinda busy.

"Good work, Lieutenant." Steve said to Zimmerman as he turned round. "Alert me as soon as anything comes up...not matter how small." Steve added.
He looked out at the viewscreen....again.
"And there I was thinking this was going to be a simple mission for a change."

Nae!! ::The frustrated commander shouts at the EMH that stands there looking at her as though shes speaking greek or dominion or something:: Compile, save, reboot Sir EMH. Do it ::he goes to argue" Nae, do it, do it...::she says every time he opens his holographic mouth:: THANK ye! ::as he finally gives up and phases out of Deis field of vision. Theres just something oddly annoying about that particular emh...she just dosent trust the program. Though she must admit it is difficult to see "him" as a program when hes standing there arguing with her. Several medical techs choose this moment to chuckle and the smallish woman has to take a long breath to keep from biting their heads off...damnit something is bothering her and she cant place her finger on it.::
::After finishing her task she heads on down to the bridge, thinking its her turn to sit and look at the big pretty screen and ask all the funny questions::
::inside the turbolift she thinks about the news she recieved during the briefing meeting...marriage for the captain. She cant say that shes even remotely suprised...shes seen it comming for quite some time now. Such a momentous occasion could prove to be quite the distraction....but then thats why they pay her the big bucks...metaphorically speaking. To watch the Captains back. She becomes ever so slightly maudlin as the turbolift stops. At least SOMEONE is finding happiness in the stars. Thats always a good thing no matter how you slice it. The Captain and his Remeti are lucky people in her mind.::
::the doors of the turbolift and then those of the bridge itsself go WHOOSH and she steps inside. The captain has already vacated the area so she takes the usual center seat looking round to Zimmerman and Savot. She recieves their reports and nods...sitting there blankly, this nameless suspicion just nagging at her::
At th risk o soundin a wee bit paranoid, gentlemen, we be out 'ere in th Danari system t check up on a ship run t dissappear after th distress call come in. Does this nae seem t be a...well...a set up or a trap? Or be it joost meself? ::not afraid to be way wrong as long as it calms the strange edginess shes had about this mission thus far::

"At this juncture, it is difficult to say. There have been documented events where the exact form of ambush you suggest has been utilized, however, there are also a number of instances where the recorded distress was viable.", thinking to himself that that entire statement was not the least bit helpful in any way, Savot then gives an actual opinion. "In summary, were I in your position, I would of course proceed, albeit with an aire of caution, Commander Irae."
Savot looks down at his console as the timer counts down to zero, and the warp streams of stars blast into the familiar ocean of pinpricks in the universal blanket. "We have entered the system. Mr. Zimmerman, initiate scans and release your probes when ready."
Deis stood up from the center seat, walking closer to the front of the bridge, as though keeping a wary eye on the viewscreen. She then tapped her commbadge, "Irae t' Smith, Captain we've arrived in-system and are startin' our scans. Recommend increasin' our alairt status to yellow."
Smith's badge chirped in response =^=, "Good idea Commander, go to yellow alert. I'll be there shortly." =^=

A moment of so later, Steven stepped onto the bridge at precisely the same moment that Remeti did so from the turbolift. He glanced at her, and smiled. It must have seemed like an odd coincidence that they both appeared at the same time, but now was not the time for jokes.
"Lieutenant." Steve said, by way of acknowledgement. It took some restraint to not call her by her first name, but he managed it.
"Ste....um...Captain" Stuttered Rem. She was still getting the hang of this, but she was slowly getting used to it.
As Rem sat down, Steve hung back, then walked up to her station where she was now sitting.
"Lieutenant. I want you to run a tactical analysis and see if you can find any traces of weapons fire out there." He asked Rem.
"Aye, sir. It may take a short while to complete." She replied.
For a moment Steve paused.....there was no stutter. Rem called him 'sir' without a problem.
'She is learning' Steve thought to himself and smiled. Patting Rem's arm lightly, he turned round and headed to the centre of the Bridge.
"So....whats the prognosis?" He asked anyone in general.

Kevin: "There are no debris of the ship, sir. It was not destroyed. I have located multiple ionized plasma trace trails leading from the last known location of the vessel. It appears at least two escape pods were jetisoned. I do not know which pod or pods went where, or where the ship is; but both planets capable of sustaining life were landed on. However, one has violent storms. It is unlikely there are any survivors there. I recomend we search the other planet. I have located two crash sites within 200 kilometers of each other. There is a species native to the planet equivilant to Earth's Bronze Age. No Federation ship has been to either planet."
Smith: "How likley is it the majority of the ship's crew is on the more favorable planet?"
Kevin: "I would venture to say, sir, that control of the ship, for an unkown reason, left the hands of the crew. The escape pods were jettisoned, but only a fraction of the crew could escape. The rest of the crew, if they survived the initial crash-landing, may already be dead. The ship is no longer emitting any signal whatsoever, and I cannot place a distinct landing site on the planet. My best guess would most likely be at least a 5,000 kilometer circle. There isn't a good chance of salvaging the ship or her crew. In addition, shuttlecraft will be hit with hard winds if they attempt to enter the atmosphere. I recomend we find the survivors on the more favourable planet. That way, if the ship landed there, we will know why it did, and if anyone landed on the other panet. I do not know the native's psycology, but if it is anything like a human's, they will kill everyone who escaped the ship/escape pods."

Savot, though silent until the complete end of Irae's comments, rises to a stand at his console even before the mentioning of other away team members. As she finishes, he interjects his own support and opinions, "Captain, I volunteer to accompany Commander Irae. If blending with the culture fails, my Vulcan appearance is similar to the likeness of various primitive concepts of demonkind, thereby putting the natives off guard and perhaps frightening them away giving us time to rescue the survivors unimpeded."
As the Captain gets the thoughtful look of considering the suggestion, Savot continues his barrage of logical reasons, "Additionally, my skills will be of better use with the away team, as Mr. Zimmerman is capable of running sensor scans in my absence aboard ship, sir." He finishes with a polite nod in the young science chief's direction. He then stands at parade rest, hands clasped behind him, awaiting the Captain's decision.

Steve thought for a few moments.
"I agree. Both of you have the experience necessary for the mission." He walked up to Savot and Irae, and turned around. "I would also like you take take Lt Lucas with you. With her training, she can be useful if the situation turns sour." He replied, glancing at Remeti. She just nodded back at him, with a slight hint of nervousness in her eyes.
Steve walked up to her and bent down to her level.
"Whats the matter?" He asked.
"What if something happens? I dont want to be apart from you for longer than I need to be" Rem replied, glancing at Steve.
"Nothing will happen. You just need to have a bit of faith on your abilities....and also some in mine!" Steve answered, as he smiled and stood back up again.
"Shall we?" He asked the group, indicating the go ahead.

She waits until the quiet conversation has passed and then turns heading out of the bridge, Savot following and then Remeti. Deis speaks as the three of them duck into the turbo lift:: Deck 4. :;the turbo lift begins to move and Deis looks at Remeti:: Dinna worry Lucas. If ye dinnae do yer duty, tha will nae help yer Captain. Yer trainin bee useful, an we'll take care of ye. Sides a sec/tac cannae worry aboot such thins.
::Remeti looks at her and nods* Yes Commander...i just...worry.
:: Deis smiles as the doors open at the appropriate deck, stepping out, the silent Savot in tow behind the two of them:: O'course ye do. He be yer love aye? I, too, would worry. But that willnae keep me from me duty.
Understood Commander Irae ::Remeti nods, understanding what she means, squaring her shoulders, knowing that she can do this::
::The trio heads into the replication rooms, Zimmerman conducting the scan and then feeding the information through the computers for them. Within moments the replicators have assembled clothes, shoes and concealments for their technological miracles. A bronze age society do not take well to such things. They tend to think of them as godlike.::
Arrigh. Th truth aboot bronze age civilizations is tha th Male tends t be th dominant. Savot ::handing him a rough cloth cloak with leather leggings and tunic to be worn:: Ye shall be our...guardian. Our man. Remeti ::handing her a rough leather/cloth dress:: We women will defer t Savot in whae'er he says. OFF Just so it doesnt confuse everyone, my posts as Remeti will be in a different colour to my usual posts!
Remei went into the changing area and changed into her new clothes and stepped out to join the others again. She looked herself up and down, and decided that this mission couldnt end too quickly. Luckily she only had to wear these clothes for now, as they certainly werent something she would choose to wear.
Rem followed Cmdr Irae's suit and began to conceal her phaser. When that was done, she stood up and looked around. This was going to be her first away mission with Steve, and she didnt want to let him, or her team down.
Looking up, Rem opened her mouth.
"No questions....ma'am." (Or is it sir?.....even I dont know! lol) She replied, to Cmdr Irae's last question.

Kivan had not been called upon for the majority of the mission, so he had spent most of his time running scans on the ship to make sure that there were not faults or anything. After completing the scans on the engines, he moved on to scanning the weapons and the shields, just in case they randomly got attacked, which Kivan hoped wouldn't happen.

Savot nodded to the First Officer, taking the wide brimmed hat and placing it atop his head. "A logical precaution, ma'am. I wish to alarm them with my appearance only if there is no alternative."
The 3 officers stepped onto the transporter pads, rechecking their equipment to make sure all was as it should be, then Commander Irae nodded to the transporter chief, "All right crewman, ye can energize now."
The chief acknowledged the order, then tapped the coordinates in again for confirmation, before sliding his fingers down the transporter control lines. The three intrepid officers saw first the disintegration of their own world, and then re-emerged in the midst of their duty...

::The ship fades out from fiew and for the longest of nanoseconds there is nothing, and then the dark bluish greens of a deep wood filter in to the nonvision. Were on the dayside hemosphere of the planet in an obvious temperate zone. Once the transport is complete Deis looks around, holding up a hologrammed amulet off her neck. the lil screen shows up when she presses her thumb against it, a tricorder in disguise. She speaks up after looking at it:: T' th South o us. Looks t be a goodly life scannin :: pointing the way she means:: I am nae pickin up any badge signals :meaning the commbadges we all wear.:: But this be where th first group may o been sighted afore.
::with that she nods to the other two and begins off in a southerly direction, stepping round rocks and oddly black trees. The forest around the away team seems to glow faintly with purple fungi, the oddly black bark standing out crazily against the white sun. The coloration seems to be off on everything, probably due to the different colors of light filtering from that white sun. yet the air is completly breatheable and able to support various humanoid lifeforms, else Zimmermans scans would have told different.::
::the team stops just inside the forests edge, a small village type area exists within the curve of a large river of dark blackish water, obviously another trick of the odd light. Deis turns round to speak to the other two before we try going into this village of lowish mud huts...but when she does the other two see her eyes go wide and she goes to shout, when suddenly 15 strangely painted tribal warrior types drop from the blackish trees overhead. All of these men are very pale with dark colors painted on their faces, perhaps tattoing. They all carry large hammers made of that very same bronze Zimmerman told us about. Deis, and Remeti sort of go into a ready to fight stance but Savot does not, for he sees that these men do not close in on us nor do they attack:: "A moment Commander..." ::is all he has to say. all he needs to say and the two women calm down a bit, not so ready to fight.::
::After a moment of very long intense silence a very tall man emerges from behind the band. His hair is long, like all of them, equally pale in color like their skin. He speaks and luckily their language filters through the universal communicators, his voice very quiet and not seeming angry at all::
You are trespassers.
|
|
|
Post by Savot on Oct 20, 2004 5:38:01 GMT
"You are trespassers.", the apparent leader of the tribe states without particular inflection. Replying to such lack of vehemence is a perfect job for one pointy-eared Ops chief. He bows his head respectfully, and in a way that can be read as apology for their trespass, and begins to speak.
"Forgive me, chieftain. I obviously mean your people no harm, for I would be hard pressed to achieve victory in the face of such odds. We are but 3 travellers, on pilgrimage from afar. Though you and I are men of solidity and are moving away from such things, some of our elders still believe in the ancient tales of vision. We travel not in actual belief, but in honor of their many years. We ask that you allow us passage, so that we may complete our journey and return home.", Savot speaks, his hands clasped in front of him so as to hide nothing and give no image of deceit.
The man listens quietly, almost amused during the talk of visions of old, apparently agreeing with Savot's progressional attitude, a gamble the Vulcan felt was sound, as bronze age peoples in cultures of the past had followed a similar pattern. Belief in mysticism fell away as man gained a confidence in his own ability to manipulate his surroundings. The man gazes across the huts, tilting his head as if in thought, the other beings move about almost restlessly, as if barely contained by the calm attitude of their chief.
The chief then turns, raises his chin as though asserting his superiority, though not in arrogance per se, and gestures to the largest of the huts and speaks again, "My wife is with child, the pains are upon her, bring my child safely into this world and I will agree. Fail in this, and you will be killed in suplication of my child's soul."
Savot turned slowly to face Deis, and they likely thought the same thing. To interfere like this in a primitive culture would go directly against the Prime Directive. Nodding ever so slightly to her though, he turned back around to the chief. "We have little choice but to attempt to aid you. The woman to my left is practiced in the healing arts, she will require complete emptiness within the hut, except for myself and the other woman. None of your people may enter, or the birth could be ruined."
The man raised his chin again, then nodded firmly and spun on his heel towards the hut. Savot walked straight ahead, aware of the Prime Directive issues at hand, but aware of his own instincts to aid life, as well as those that were surely even stronger within still-Doctor Deis Irae. They all walked ahead, prepared to do what they could, within the bounds of their duty...
