OOC: As you can all now see, the previous mission is now finally complete. No more posting will be conducted in that thread as it is now locked. This thread is a temporary posting area for those who wish to put posts about their own personal actions, both on and off duty, as much as you like until we get back to Assailant.
Captain Irae and I will also be holding the introduction/promotion-recognition ceremonies in this thread once we are prepared, so hopefully all will enjoy that. Thanks for your cooperation through the last mission, and enjoy your downtime.

*Deis sits in her readyroom going through the extensive "paper" work required by this very long mission. She didnt realize how tense the mission had made her. Dealing with vulcan extremists without her own personal Vulcan. But luckily that part is over. She puts down the next finished padd into a stack on her desk then leans back in her chair, stretching and rubbing her face. She pushes up out of her chair and walks to the window, peering out at the streaking stars that move by us at warp. A strange melancholy has settled over her for reasons shes not ready to speak of yet...even if it made sense. She should be extatic despite the damage to her ships brain. The mission was successful, her First Officer healed. Promotions all around the ship. Reasons to celebrate. But strangely she feels far from celebrating.*
*That dosent mean that others dont deserve it though so she touches her commbadge and speaks to her Ship and Crew*
=/\=Attention All o El Sal. We will be 2 weeks travelin in t th Assailant at a steady warp 7. Durin this time thar will be allowed extended offtime as well as a celebration for those of ye tha have been promoted durin this long but successful Mission. Please refer t duty schedules t note yer personal offtime. Th celebration will be held 2 days hence a' 18 hundred hours. I would like t thank me Crewmen an women tha stuck wi us through this monster o a mission. Im proud o ye all. Yer more n welcome t be bringin a date t th celebration.=/\=
*She ends the comm message with a small chuckle and stands there in silence as the smile fades from her face. She taps nails against the lucite of her desk before turning and leaving the readyroom. She feels tired despite the fact that she spent a good bit of time in the sickbay unconsious. She steps through the bridge and waves off the "captain on the bridge" bit. She dosent even look to see whos on Gamma duty. Shes offshift...sort of. The captain is never REALLY off shift. She heads out of the bridge and on into the turbolift that will take her to the personal quarters.*
*Hers, as always, is almost obcessivly neat, everything in its place. The lights are dim when she steps inside and unzips her uniform. She dosent change that. Before several more minutes shes taken a sonic shower and changed into a comfy nighty thing that covers her from throat to feet, deepest black...to match her mood. When she lays back against the narrow bed the images fill her mind again and she growls softly. She turns over and takes a hypospray that she keeps for just such an emergency and touches it to her wrist. The hiss causes no pain and she feels the drowsyness envelop her immediatly and lays down again. The sleep aid does nothing for her mind though as the memories and thoughts place themselves in her dreams*
Off: just a lil foreshadowing for later.

OOC: Okay, I just realized that my post referres to my promotion and that may cause problems, so I have made it so that if refers to my promotion after the fact.
IC:
Their mission had finally ended, Ethan was sure that it was the longest one he had ever been a part of. During his time back home the longest mission his parent went through was about two months, which was only caused because of a rather strong ion storm.
So now the USS El Salvador was streaming back to Starbase Assailant, their home port. Ethan had never been their but he couldn't wait. It would be a great way for him to relax and that is what he wanted at the moment.
Just like always Ethan was caught up in his thoughts and didn't notice that a crewman was walking towards him and the crewman as luck would have it was working on a PADD and didn't notice him either.
*Clank*
Ethan and the other crewman fell to the floor holding their hands to their perspective heads. Ethan was known to space out when thinking and it seemed as this problem followed him here.
"I'm so sorry about that," Ethan said trying help up the crewman that he had run into.
"Lt. its okay, I was also clumsy," the crewman responded as he accepted Ethan's help and after he had fixed his uniform he slowly went back to what he was doing.
Ethan was glad that the crewman was okay with what happened, but his response brought a smile to his face. It had been so unexpected that he honestly thought that he was not in his quarters. When he realized that he was, he once again opened the box on his table and looked at the pips. Ethan had been promoted by Captain Irae and Commander Savot. Ethan was touched that they felt confidence enough in him to promoted him from Acting Ensign to Lt. JG.
Realizing that he was just standing there in the corridor Ethan composed himself and went back to what he was doing. Just walking the corridors enjoying his time off.

OFF: This is Zimmerman's post, am posting it due to further problems with his comp logging on to the boards.
The shift changed, and the Alpha shift gave up their seats to their replacements. Savot, Irae, and Kevin got on the same turbolift. The Captain looked tired, but still managed to chat in a friendly manner with the other two officers before the turbolift came to a halt. All three exited, and the Captain retired to her quarters (which were closest to the turbolift). Kevin and Savot continued on to their own. "I never really got the chance to tell you this, Commander," said Kevin as they walked down the corridor. "But I'm very amazed at your speedy recovery. And I'm glad you pulled through. I don't think I - or Captain Irae - would have taken your death very well. The crew really looks up to you." "I had no notion my presence was so... penetrating," said the Vulcan, raising his right eyebrow and sounding slightly surprised. "Popular," corrected Kevin. "Anyway, we're all very happy you're still with us. And it was nice to see your family, though they don't seem to be related to you." Savot raised an eyebrow at this as well, though this time in curiousity. "How so?" "Um... for starters, neither of them seemed even remotely happy. And you sister was... scary, really. I can't really explain it. She spat out information like she was a textbook." "Her intelligence is both fluid and crystallised," replied Savot, with something that resembled pride. When he saw Kevin's blank face he clarified. "Fluid intelligence is how quickly one can recall information one has learned. Crystallised intelligence is the quantity of information one can recall about a given subject. On the contrary though, Saevalis is typically quite friendly for a vulcan, moreso than myself. I believe her seemingly distant behavior on this occasion was due to both the severity of the crisis and the large amount of blood she had recently donated to my surgical efforts. Before she left; however, she did express respect for your technical knowledge, as well as Mr. Parsons' proficiency as a tactical leader. My mother; however, is nearly always as you observed her." "Oh." Kevin processed that, and realised they were at Savot's quarters. "Thank you for your concern, Kevin," said Savot. "I was worried for the crew's sake as well, once I became aware of the danger you all faced. We Vulcans do actually have emotions, we merely bury them deeper than humans do. That combined with the other circumstances is likely why you found my sister 'scary'. Indeed, the more exposure I have to certain humans, the possibility occurs to me that Vulcans can sometimes... bury their emotions too deeply." He let Kevin think about that, and then added, "Good night," before entering his quarters. " 'Night," Kevin said as the door slid shut. He returned to his quarters, thinking about what Savot had just told him. He tried to sort out everything Savot had told him, but then decided to go hit a zero-G exercise. He was too tired to think properly, but he wouldn't be able to get to sleep for several more hours. He was in luck: no one was using Holodeck Two. He programmed it for the scenario he wanted, making sure the artificial gravity field that kept the rest of the ship's occupants on the floor was not enabled inside the holodeck. Then he stepped in. A new, three-dimensional maze lay in front of him. Kevin touched off the back wall where the doors had just slid closed and drifted through the entrance of the maze. He made several wrong turns, either going in circles or finding dead ends, but eventually found the exit, slightly worn out. He returned to his quarters, and after tossing and turning, finally fell asleep.

OOC: This is before Ethan was promoted and we had the big party.
IC:
It wasn't very often that Ethan found himself sitting on his bed and reading. At that very moment Ethan was enjoying the works of John Steinbeck, the American Literature Genius. He had always enjoyed literature, but somehow it had ended up that Ethan had never read Steinbeck's work other than Grapes of Wrath. Right now he was enjoying The Pearl and The Sea of Cortez.
"Computer dim light to 45% illumination and begin playing the Ethan one file," Ethan said as he took a sip of his green tea. Ethan of course wouldn't tell anyone, but this was what he had always hoped for when he had become a Starfleet officer. He of course had work to do, but after that he was free to enjoy himself. On the Neptune even while the crew was on R&R, Ethan was working somewhere on the ship. That was the only complain that Ethan ever had about living on a ship with Starfleet officers, but Ethan of course would never change his childhood for the world.
If it wasn't for his life on the Neptune Ethan would of never of met his best friend in the entire galaxy. Most people found him a bit quirky, but Ethan found him entirely enjoyable. Ethan had been really pleased when he had heard from his mother that Jere had joined Starfleet as an Acting Ensign. She hadn't told him where he was stationed, but now that Ethan had some free time he could do that now.
"Computer stop music, bring lights back to normal levels," Ethan said as he closed his book and sat down near his computer.
"Computer can you show me a list of all Starfleet personal?" Ethan asked.
"Negative, you have not acquired the clearance for that information."
"Computer can you locate a Starfleet officer with the rank of Acting Ensign?" Ethan asked.
"Affirmative."
"Okay, can you locate Acting Ensign Jere Opet?" Ethan asked.
"Affirmative."
"Where is he currently located?" Ethan asked.
"USS Raven-A."
"The Raven," Ethan thought finding the name very familiar," Computer is the Raven in Section 47?"
"Affirmative."
"Computer establish a comm link with the Raven, and AE Opet's quarters," Ethan said. The computer chirped away telling Ethan that his request was being done.
Jere looked up as the computer console in his quarters blipped. He placed his half empty cup of tea on the table and walked to the desk, sitting down and checking to see who the message was from. The answer surprised him and caused him to smile. He opened the link and spoke. "Ethan .... what'd I do to deserve this honor?" he joked.
Ethan couldn't believe that it had been almost six months since they had spoken, but Jere was just like he was the last time they met. Smiling, joking, and enjoying life.
"Oh I just wanted to talk to a friend," Ethan responded smiling," and so I called my best friend."
Jere chuckled "How have you been? What have you been up to?" the last time they spoke seemed so long ago.
"Well as you can see I joined Starfleet," Ethan said smiling," and to say the least it has been very exciting to say the least."
"I can't believe you finally took the plunge Ethan. Where the heck are you?" Jere settled back in the chair behind his desk as he and his best friend talked.
"Well Captain Stone, helped me graduate early and I have been stationed to the USS El Salvador," Ethan said remembering his godfather," and guess what type of ship the El Salvador is?"
Ethan didn't let Jere respond as he stopped him mid sentence and said," Yep a Prometheus class, I'm so lucky."
Jeres mouth dropped. "You're ... in S47!?" he exclaimed?
"Yeah and so are you," Ethan said matter of factly. He of course was ecstatic when he found out that his friend was in the same division as him, and he had been given time to properly address that fact when it came up with Jere.
"We'll have to get together sometime when we both are on leave?" He was still in semishock from finding Ethan and he were so close too."
"Yeah of course, when I found out, I almost checked to see where the Raven currently was," Ethan said admitting his need to talk to someone that he knew.
"So Jere, how are things on your side?"
"They could be better Ethan. I don't know I just don't fit in here and I'm not sure why." Jere replied with a frown.
Ethan long ago knew how to read his friend and he knew that he was being nice. He of course knew that not everyone adjusted well to their first assignment. Lucky for him Jere had not picked up on Ethan's uneasiness. It wasn't that Ethan didn't like being on the El Salvador, but the people here intimidated him a bit.
"Jere, please tell me you didn't play any pranks on them?" Ethan said hoping to break the tense nature of there conversation.
Jere could tell there was something Ethan wasn't sharing but knew better than to ask. "No, no pranks. I don't know what it is and I probably don't want to know." He shrugged. "I put in a transfer to SBB. I think I prefer the starbases over the ships anyway. I never did grow a set of wings."
"Jere you grew a set of wings, but we all know that your mom just clipped them," Ethan said troubled that Jere hadn't enjoyed his first assignment. Jere was a carefree loving person who never had a problem with anything, but then again he had just been proved wrong. "So are you still going to be a doctor?"
"Trying to be Ethan. Maybe I wasn't cut out for this?" he mused and grew silent.
"Jere don't you dare speak like that," Ethan said a flash of anger showing," we all know that you are more than cut out for this. Just because you had a bad experience doesn't mean that its that way everywhere you go. You have the smarts and my friends tell me the looks to be a great doctor and officer."
Jere let out a sigh and didn't make a reply right away. "So what are you up to? What are you doing on the El Sal?"
"Well we just finished our current mission and we are heading back to the Assailant, supposedly we are supposed to have a big party in a little while," Ethan responded.
"Parties are fun Ethan, you make sure to enjoy yourself for both of us." Jere said with a slight smile, one thing Ethan liked was a good party.
"Of course, since when don't I enjoy......"Ethan replied before being interrupted by the comm system.
=^=Would all El Sal crew please report to the longue for the after mission party =^=
Jere laughed. "Speaking of parties, you better get going."
Ethan didn't want to stop talking to Jere, but he had been told to make an appearance. The only comfort that he took in this was the fact that he now knew where Jere was and he could call him when ever he wanted.
"Jere its been good talking to you again," Ethan smiling," I will talk to you soon."
"You won't lose contact now I promise." He closed the link before Ethan could get a word out knowing that it would be the only way to get him to go to that party.
Ethan almost laughed outloud, Jere knew him to well. Ethan turned off his console, thought about it a minute and then made his way towards the party.
OOC: This was a JP between myself and AE Jere Opet from the USS Raven.

OFF: Just want to apologize for the delay. Was supposed to post a few days ago, but was swamped with midterms, and now the chaos of coming home for spring break has kept me busy. I won't be at the computer constantly for the next week, but I should be able to check the boards every day or so and post when necessary.
ON:
Savot bid Kevin good evening as they finished their discussion upon reaching Savot's quarters, and he entered them between the whoosh of the doors' opening and closing. Oddly, this was his first time in his quarters aboard the El Salvador in a few weeks. Even before his grievous wound in Engineering he had been on station on the bridge during the previous crisis for over 30 hours. Even so, as he walked in his room appeared exactly as it had the last time he'd been inside.
He walked over to his bed first of all, removing the commbadge from his uniform and placing it on the nightstand to the left of the bed. Next, as per his routine he moved to the small desk in the corner opposite the bed where he typically did his casual work, recreation by vulcan standards. Savot stood by the desk, removing his four pips one by one and placing them on the desk until the next time he would need them.
Three gold pips and one black later Savot moved to the side of the desk, where stood an item that might seem a tad strange for a vulcan's living quarters. Standing next to the desk was a shoulder-high, foot-wide stand with a fish tank atop it. Now that alone would not have set this item off as odd, but the contents, rather than some exotic sea being from a distant planet of philosophical sophistication, consisted solely of a simple Earth creature casually referred to as a goldfish.
The pet had actually been a prank pulled by a fellow officer at the Propulsion Research Station on Jupiter who had hacked through the security lock of Savot's quarters there and delivered the creature to him while Savot was on duty. The vulcan had returned after his shift to find a simple fish bowl and an old-style paper notice attached that labelled the creature therein as Alfred.
The fish had kept Savot company as he toiled through the night reprogramming the entire base of the door's inner mechanism, and after that he had simply found no reason to dispose of the creature. Maintenance was low, emotional investment need not be immense for the pet to thrive, and Savot found that watching the fish float around within his aquatic universe, the container of which Savot had actually taken steps to improve to the larger aquarium-style container, was actually quite calming and had a certain peace to it.
Tilting his head as he looked upon the tank, Savot noticed that Alfred seemed perfectly well fed, much better off than he should have been with his only benefactor sealed away in surgery for over a week. The most plausible conclusion was that Captain Irae had actually taken the time to come by and feed Alfred with what little free time she had taken for herself during the recent crisis.
During the mystery of Captain Vreenak's death the then-Doctor Deis Irae and Savot had formed a two-person investigative force and when they had confirmed their suspicions that Vreenak's murdered was the very man posing as his replacement as Captain, Savot authorized his quarters to admit Deis in case there was an emergency. As they had become close friends in the aftermath of that crisis Savot had never found reason to deny her access. Savot was inwardly touched that she would remember the little creature in his quarters and take her time to attend to its feedings, and inwardly made a mental note to thank her at the next opportunity, perhaps during the party the following evening to commend those who had received promotions during the previous mission.
Savot then removed his uniform and took a sonic shower before donning the black Starfleet-issue shorts that he typically wore to sleep. Sprinkling a small bit of food in Alfred's tank, the vulcan First Officer then lay down in his own bed for the first time in weeks to partake of his own respite.

The next day's duty shift went off routinely, nothing out of the ordinary hindering the El Salvador's continuing passage back to Starbase Assailant. There was slight over a week left before they could expect to arrive, at which point the ship's entire computer core network would be reformatted by a team of skilled Bynar programmers.
The end-of-shift chime sounded and the main senior staff left the bridge to prepare for the Promotion Party at their respective quarters. Savot himself dressed in his formal dress uniform dominated by white with only a hint of command red bordering his garb. Checking himself in his mirror, not as an act of personal vanity but in order to assure he was displaying himself as would befit an officer representing the ship's senior staff, Savot left his quarters upon satisfaction and met up with the Captain as she strode down the corridors with purpose towards the lounge where the party would begin in approximately 30 minutes.
"Greetings Captain, you look quite refreshed", Savot said as he fell into step next to Deis at her right with his hands clasped behind him.
"Aye, got a good bit o' rest. Just what I needed. I appreciate ye coverin' the bridge to let me prepare for the party", Irae replied, resplendent in her own dress uniform with her various medals gleaming upon her chest. "Now double-check me, Parsons' rise to Commander and the new lad Hope's promotion to Lieutenant Jg are our only recipients this evenin' yes?"
Savot nodded as he replied, "That's correct Captain. Other officers received promotions under your command but those others have transferred in the interrum."
"Ah yes, that's right. I thought I'd been fergettin' some, but that must be it. I plan t' make some specific notice of a few officers' contribution durin' this past mission as well. Our people've done some damn fine work. They've earned the recognition", Irae nodded firmly as she made her statements, her finals words carrying herself and Savot into the lounge 25 minutes before the party was to begin. They both wanted to be there a bit ahead of time to make sure everything was in order.
"I concur completely Captain, the crew performed most exceptionally in retrieving the katra. I do hope the celebration is sufficient in conveying our appreciation for their efforts", Savot replied as he circled the room, checking the buffet table filled with a number of different cuisines from different worlds, separate tables for appetizer and dessert items, and the big surprise was the supply of Saurian Brandy the Captain had gone out of her way to acquire for just this occasion. Hodges back at the Embassy on Vulcan had been more than happy to appropriate one for her from a merchant ship that had been docked during their time there.
Deis was going to allow for a bit of time for simple mingling and enjoyment before beginning the promotion speech itself. After ensuring that everything was in order, food, music, etc., Savot and Deis stood talking between themselves whilst awaiting the arrival of their senior staff.

Kevin was surprised to see a small crease in his uniform. He must have folded it the wrong way... Oh, well. He couldn't do anything about it, now. It was on the shoulder, and it was unlikely no one would notice.
The science officer walked casually down the hall to the turbolift, his mind wandering. He wondered where the rest of his Academy class had ended up. He made a mental note to himself to look them up when the El Salv got back to Assailant.
When he entered the room, only Irae and Savot were there, talking quietly.
"Am I intruding? Should I leave you two alone?" asked Kevin with the beginning of a smile on his face.
Irae rolled her eyes. "Tis very nice t' see ya, too. There be all sorts of goodies available t' ye. Ah want t' see ya become diabetic."
Kevin laughed. "Its not my fault my metabolism hasn't slowed down," he said, starting on an oversized cookie.

Ethan was expecting to walk into a room filled with personal of the El Salvador, but when he entered he saw Captain Irae, Commander Savot, and Lt. Commander Zimmerman. When he realized this he almost made his way out the door, but of all people the Vulcan First Officer stopped him.
"Ensign Hope, welcome to the party, it seems that you and Mr. Zimmerman are the first people to arrive," Savot said.
Ethan walked up to them awkwardly, he had not really talked to them since he was stationed on board. He had more interaction with the crewman and petty officers of the ship.
"Hello Captain, Commander, Commander," Ethan said acknowledging each of them.
<Tag Dies, Savot, Kevin>
It was strange to talk to people with such high rank, but Ethan managed. Lucky for him more people entered and Ethan excused himself. Ethan quickly realized all the food that was there and made his way towards it. One thing that he had yet to say no to was a buffet line and this wasn't going to change.
He saw so many different foods from so many different worlds and he couldn't wait to try all of them, except those that he thought had something alive in them.

By the time Commander Parsons arrived there were more than a dozen officers present. The CTSO said hello and chatted with a few of his fellow officers, before making his way over to Kevin.
"So, Mr. Zimmerman..." the two men engaged in small talk for a while before Parsons brought up an idea his former assistant had mentioned to him; "...Kevin, I've thought about rounding up a few officers for a friendly poker game sometime. I was wondering if you'd be interested."

Ethan was stuffing his face with all the good food he could eat. He just loved buffets, but he of course made sure to not get his uniform dirty. Ethan saw a table and chair and he made a V-line for it. What ever he was eating was really good and he didn't want to talk to anyone until he finished it.
Without even realizing it, Ethan started to easedrop on some of the conversations that were going around him. It seemed that one particular crewman had a crush on another, a Lt. had just recieved his transferr orders, and that Ethan was eating like a pig. Ethan just smiled knowing that it must of been true, but he would only add a clean pig.
"Kevin, I've thought about rounding up a few officers for a friendly poker game sometime. I was wondering if you'd be interested."
When he heard talk about a poker game his ears moved involuntary. One thing that Ethan loved was poker. Ethan stopped eating, stood up and joined the two officers.
"Did I hear you Commander talking about Poker?" Ethan asked.

Savot and Irae gave their hellos to the senior staff as they entered. Zimmerman grabbed his cookie from the buffet and began mingling, Ethan fixed himself a plate and took a table, and Parsons moved through the room eventually bringing up conversation with Kevin. Deis saw her former medical staff enter and bowed out of her dialogue with Savot to go share stories with the nurses and med techs.
Savot was quietly sipping a glass of Altair water, when he noticed a Klingon with a long face casting guilt-ridden glances his way. Savot raised a brow in curiousity for a moment... and then it hit him. This must be the Klingon crewman who had wounded him with the throwing axe during the final moments of the madness that had gripped most of the crew. The wound that had taken the El Salvador to Vulcan in the first place which made it possible for them to take place in the katra retrieval mission.
Savot crossed the room to address the young male Lieutenant from the Engineering department. "Lieutenant, perhaps you will join me in a piece of Zilm'kach and a cup of bloodwine." Savot asked, referring to a klingon fruit similar to the terran apricot with its orange coloring and consistency.
The Klingon looked at Savot in surprise for a moment, then squared his shoulders reassuming the proud Klingon dignity and nodded, getting a piece of Zilm'kach for both of them and getting replicated cups of bloodwine for each as well, though he looked at Savot in curiousity, "You do not look upon me with disdain for falling victim to such a dishonorable madness?"
Savot accepted the fruit and drink, eating his orange colored slice and raising his glass slightly out towards the Klingon, "I could hardly hold you responsible for something over which you had not control. Especially as I too fell victim to the same ailment." The Klingon looked at Savot in disbelief, then looked down to the floor in thought. When he raised his head he had a thin smile of reassurance and stood straighter as he clanked glasses with the vulcan First Officer and they both drank the klingon libation.
Wiping his mouth with the back of his hand the Klingon male extended his hand to Savot, "Lieutenant Kelbren, honored to have met you under better circumstances Commander." Savot nodded in return of the greeting and clasped forearms with Lt. Kelbren, "Commander Savot, and I share the honor of your acquaintance."
Smiling a final time in a baring of fangs, Kelbren flowed back into the party amongst the crowds, and Deis was meeting Savot's glance with a nodding signal to which he responded and met her in the middle of the room. The Captain tapped her glass to get the room's attention, then held up her hands to show that it was not yet the time to adopt a formal posture, "Yer attention please. Now we won't be startin' the ceremony for a wee time yet, but it has come to our attention that today marks another occasion for celebration. Today be the birthday of our own Commander Zimmerman. Ever'one please join me in a round of applause for our growing Science Chief!"
The room as a whole joined the Captain and Savot in their clapping, and as they did so a large cake was wheeled out atop a silver dessert cart. The cake was in the shape of the old-Starfleet era science symbol, the Starfleet inverted V shape adorned in the center with the eye-slit circle-oval interlay drawn out in black icing in the center.
The Captain moved to stand beside the cake and spoke to Zimmerman, who had moved towards the front of the congregation filled with disbelief, "Now Commander, we're not makin' a big embarrassing deal out of this, but we felt that since we were havin' a party anyway, that a simple cookie-dough icecream cake wouldn't be any harm. If it's not to yer liking, be a good lad and lie to us." The Captain ended her brief speech with a small grin, and the gathered officers stood in line for their respective slices of chilled goodness.
OOC: All conversation b/w chars can still take place around this event, just place things where it'll work best to your posting needs.

"Kevin, I've thought about rounding up a few officers for a friendly poker game sometime. I was wondering if you'd be interested," said Parsons.
Kevin smiled. "I'm a little rusty, but sure, I'm game."
"Did I hear you Commander talking about Poker?" Ethan asked.
Parsons nodded. "Feel free to join us. Would about one hour after our shift's over be all right for you two?"
Kevin nodded. "That would be fine."

Kevin made his way to the front of the room, surprised. His ears had turned a little red, but he grinned, thankful his Captain and Commander Savot had been so thoughtful.
"Now Commander," continued Irae, "we're not makin' a big embarrassing deal out of this, but we felt that since we were havin' a party anyway, that a simple cookie-dough icecream cake wouldn't be any harm. If it's not to yer liking, be a good lad and lie to us."
"Its wonderful, Thank you," said Kevin, hugging Irae. It was the kind of hug he might have given to his mother - after all, Kevin was still young and he had no parents. Irae was, in addition to his commanding officer, a sort of guardian.
She didn't seem surprised by his actions. "Yer welcome, Kevin." she said.
Irae began to cut the cake for everyone. Several came to say hello and tell Kevin happy birthday. Savot stood off to the side, a smile playing on his face. Very unvulcanlike, said something in the back of Kevin's brain.

As Kevin and Adam traded comments about who was rustier at poker, Ethan chimed in that he was interested. Kevin suggested they meet about an hour after their shift. The other two officers agreed and Parsons added, "If either of you run into anyone else who is interested, bring them along. We can play in the officers lounge."
Just then, Kevin was called forward so the Captain could embarrass him about his birthday and present a cake. Parsons slapped Kevin lightly on the back and nudged him toward the front of the room where the Captain was speaking.
Once the occasion had been announced and sufficient fuss had been made, the party-goers enjoyed a birthday dessert.

As the cake consumption and accompanying chatter came to a close, Captain Irae walked to the podium set up just in front of the lounge's windows. With the passing flickers of stars behind her, she activated the podium's microphone and got everyone's attention. "All right, everyone please be seated, and we'll get to our main event."
Everyone sat in the rows of chairs that had been set out while the crowd was gathered near the opposite side of the room doing the birthday celebration. Adam, Kevin, and Ethan took the three left most seats in the front row as they had been instructed to do before the gathering.
As soon as everyone was settled, Deis spoke again, "Now, we've all been feelin' the weight of the past weeks. It's seemed as though we've bounced from one crisis to another with nae enough rest in between. Other crews would, and have, snapped under such pressure, but nae those of the El Salvador. In just joining Starfleet ye've all already experienced more than most people do in a lifetime. But even fer Starfleet officers and crew ye've all been 'unto the breach' and back more than once. Today we recognize three gentlemen in particular, one an old salt by now, another having become a regular name throughout the ship as well, and the last havin' jus' recently joined our family but already risen to what the crisis that was our last mission demanded. These gentlemen are t' be commended, and stand as examples of th' finest traditions of the Federation."
Captain Irae took a moment for the token dramatic pause, then continued as she smiled proudly down at her crew, "Lieutenant Commander Kevin Zimmerman. Ye joined us what seems a lifetime ago, because we 'ave indeed seen you grow as both an officer and a man. The part of that young officer that cleverly snuck 'is way out of bridge duty is nae with us any longer." Deis grinning at the memory as she mentioned the memory to a slightly blushing Science Chief, "But that cleverness itself remains, and has been tempered by experience and combined with responsibility to forge a reliable officer I be proud t' call one o' mine. Ye saw a need when we were passin' through hard times and ye stepped up t' fill that need without hesitation. Come on up Commander."
Zimmerman got up from his seat and went up the small stage, and in a setup not unlike a school award ceremony, walked to the Captain and Savot in turn and shook each of their hands. Receiving a loud round of applause from those assembled, he then stood at the corner of the stage as he was instructed and awaited the rest of the ceremony.
Turning back to the podium, Irae then looked down at the El Sal's Chief Tactical/Security Officer and spoke again, "Commander Adam Parsons. Ye yerself came aboard quite some time ago, but even so we've not had the chance to come to know ye closely. Despite this ye've always given 100% and more when it was needed, and this past mission fer Vulcan certainly demanded such. Tis precisely this dedication that has seen ye rise up the ladder of command and attain yer current and well-deserved rank of Commander. Yer willingness to lead your team in the boarding of an enemy vessel in possession of a critically dangerous artifact and the success of said assault displayed yer prowess for command and the loyalty ye are capable of inspirin' in yer team. Stand and be recognized, Commander."
Parsons rose and proceeded to shake the hands of Deis and Savot as had Zimmerman, receiving his own raucous amount of applause, then stood beside his fellow officer awaiting the third and final member of the senior staff to be recognized.
Deis then turned to congratulate the last member of her primary bridge crew, "Lieutenant Ethan Hope. Ye've not been aboard long at all, 'aving just joined us for the Vulcan mission, and we've nae had time to learn much of ye yet either. However, despite comin' aboard without so much as the safety nets of Academy in yer background, ye met the challenges that ye were faced with. Ye've earned those pips on yer collar by doing yer duty despite the fears a new ship and crew can create in a young officer. I'm sure ye will continue to justify yer position as Chief Operations Officer in the future. Come stand with yer fellows."
Ethan rose and shook the Captain and First Officer's hands as well, then stood with a smile beside the other two celebrated officers of the day. When they were all aligned, Deis and Savot backed to the side of the stage, began clapping, and the entire assembly rose to honor the officers upon the stage with a standing ovation lasting almost a full minute long. Deis and Savot exchanged a look, one in which the Captain held a proud smile, and felt better about command than she had in a long while.
OFF: TAG anyone who would like to add any additional responses on behalf of their character. I didn't want to take much liberty with throwing in reactions myself. If any of you wish to give a speech after your hand shakes, that's more than allowed and the ceremony will just be understood to have included any such speeches and/or reactions. And to all of you out of character as well, great work.

OFF: People can still backpost into the ceremony if they'd like, but I just wanted to get us to the SB so we could progress further. And when our Engineer shows up I want him to have a ship to show up to.
ON:
After a long travel back, the El Salvador finally reached Starbase Assailant. Parsons hailed the starbase and the El Sal was given her docking order and permission to dock. After a few minutes of precision pilotting, and solid performance from Lieutenant Hope connecting the umbillicals and power transfer conduits from the Assailant to the ship, they were once again docked in a familiar port.
After giving her bridge crew the standard post-docking congratulations, Captain Irae went to her ready room to finish her report to Admiral Magellan, while Savot doled out the leave schedule to the remaining senior staff.
"Gentlemen, you are all granted immediate leave on Starbase Assailant to do as you wish within reason, with the exception of Commander Parsons. Commander, we have experienced certain security difficulties during past docking experiences and I feel it would behoove us to post a roaming security detail during our docking. Your people deserve leave as well most assuredly, so this need not be an exhaustive force. Station 4 security personnel aboard at all times for the duration of the Bynars' time aboard, rotating the shifts as you see fit. Following the Bynars' departure this may be reduced to 2. You yourself need only remain aboard long enough to detail this patrol schedule at which point you are granted leave also."
Savot then addressed the whole group, "I expect to be aboard for the duration of our stay, so if anyone requires assistance you may contact me at your discretion. The Captain may be accessible for an emergency but as she has a number of administrative duties to attend to in the next several hours, contacting me is the more reliable route. Enjoy your leave gentlemen." With that, the turbolifts filled to carry people to their various activities.
OFF: Feel free to add in any response you feel is necessary, and other than that, enjoy yourselves. We'll get going again before too long. I expect to leave by the end of this week, Friday-ish. We'll see how it goes. Want to give everyone a fair chance to post what they'd like to post.

Judd sat aboard the shuttle Torquay, and read his orders for probably the hundredth time. You are hereby requested and required to report to Starbase Assailant, there to await the arrival of starship El Salvador-B. Upon the arrival of the aforementioned starship, you shall present yourself to her Commanding Officer, or his/her duly authorized representative, there to report as Chief of Engineering. Even reading it over and over, Judd still couldn't quite wrap his mind around the fact that he, a wet-behind-the-ears Ensign fresh from the Academy, was assigned as Chief Engineer of a vessel. And a Prometheus class ship, at that!
At a word from the shuttle's pilot, Judd moved forward, and grinned at the sight of Starbase Assailant, looming in the viewscreen. Quickly enough, the shuttle was granted permission to dock. The second the hatch slid open, Judd, with his dufflebag over his shoulder and trailing a second piece of luggage, hurried out. After an inquiry, Judd learned to his mixture of excitement and nerves that the El Salvador had already arrived. He headed around the docking level, and soon found her berth.
After being granted permission to come aboard, Judd was sent to report to the XO. "COmmander Savot?" he said as he set down his duffle and proffered a PADD with his orders. "Ensign Judd M. Sandage, reportin' for duty, sir!"

Savot sat on the now-dimly lit bridge, just enough light remaining to work from if need be. A pair of technicians worked on either side of the bridge repairing the inner console wiring from the overloads that had occurred during the proximity explosions of the torpedoes that had narrowly missed the bridge a few weeks prior. Savot himself was in the center seat, working from the armpad consoles to keep an eye on the progress of the Bynars that had just begun their work one hour prior.
The turbolift whooshed open and brought with it a young engineering officer. "Commander Savot?" he said as he set down his duffle and proffered a PADD with his orders. "Ensign Judd M. Sandage, reportin' for duty, sir!"
Savot rose to accept the padd, perusing the contents and nodding, "Welcome aboard Mr. Sandage. Though, according to your personnel file you've recently been promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade. We are currently undergoing a computer reformat led by a team of Bynar specialists. As such the crew are on leave for the next 47 hours barring any additional incident. The damage to the ship itself is minimal, therefore few of your engineering team are aboard at the moment for you to meet. If you wish, you may undertake leave as well, or you may oversee the basic repair efforts at your discretion. If you do undertake repairs, coordinate your work with the Bynars to avoid interfering with a system they may be working on at the time. In either case, your quarters are located here", the Vulcan said as he programmed the location into the Lieutenant's padd. "If you have any questions or require assistance contact me."
Savot handed the padd back to the new arrival and let him head to the activity of his choice.

OFF: As it turns out, Assailant is currently in the middle of their own mission in which they've been attacked and boarded. It's my fault for not checking with Admiral Magellan before we came in, but the solution is simple enough. We're going to continue as we currently are, and simple proceed as though our time here occurred a week before the attack. We'll be gone before it occurs story-wise. In the future I'll make sure we're more aware of the broad situation, and mayhaps we'll be able to jump in and help them out the next time something occurs Again, apologies for the mishap, but we should be able to continue without difficulty as we originally planned.

Judd's eyes went wide at this. Promoted?! Nobody told me I got promoted! He blinked the thought away and listened to what the XO was saying. Judd shuddered internally at this. A computer reformat was, to put it very mildly, not something to be done on a whim. Lucky for them they had the Bynars helping out; those folks could work magic with a computer core. Take leave? judd thought. I just flippin' got here! I'll be elbow-deep in this ship's guts inside of an hourJudd nodded and grinned. "Thanks for the heads up, Commander. I believe I'll drop m'gear off and get right to work!" After being dismissed, Judd hauled his gear aboard the turbolift. After consulting the information Commander Savot added to his PADD, he ordered the lift to Deck 5. After the short ride, he stepped out and saw immediately that he would probably very seldom leave this deck, for just off the lift was Main Engineering. But there would be plenty of time for that after he got settled into his new quarters. He quickly located the door, and just looked at it a moment. The placard read: Lieutenant j.g. Judd M. Sandage Chief Engineering Officer Then Judd chuckled to himself. Yer actin' like a dadgum yokel, he thought to himself. With a rueful shake of his head, he stepped forward, and the door obediently slid aside for him. He went in, and soon had his belongings stowed. Ten minutes later, he was in Main Engineering, with his sleeves rolled up and a tool pack on his hip. And an extra pip on his collar.

Parsons, Zimmerman, and Hope met in the officers' lounge an hour after their shift. It was small group, but a start. The three officers chatted and refreshed themselves and each other on draw and stud poker. They used chips and cards Parsons had replicated earlier, and enjoyed the diversion after such a taxing mission.
Once the El Sal was securely docked, Savot handed out orders, including leave for most of the officers and crew. The CTSO was to stay aboard temporarily to set up a roaming security detail while the ship was docked. Parsons set up four shifts of four security personell per shift. Once the schedule was established, the first teams shift began and the rest of the Tactical and Security Department officers and crew were released to their own devices. Parsons decided to stay on board a while longer and to stick close to the ship for the remainder of the leave.
While making rounds of the ship, Parsons heard a repair team working in main engineering. As he rounded the corner, the Commander was surprised to see a lone Starfleet Lieutenant Junior Grade in an engineer's uniform.
"Hello, Lieutenant...not taking leave?"
They young officer hopped up, "Oh, hello... Commander," the engineer said, examining the Tactical Officer's uniform. "I just came aboard less than an hour ago. I'm Judd Sandage, the new Engineering Chief. I reported in to Commander Savot about an hour ago."
"Very nice to meet you Lieutenant, welcome to the El Sal. Will you be staying on the ship during the leave?"

They young officer hopped up, "Oh, howdy... Commander," the engineer said, eyeing the Tactical Officer's uniform. "I just came aboard a little while ago. I'm Judd Sandage, yer new Chief of Engineering. I reported in to Commander Savot about an hour ago."
Judd nodded. "Yes sir, seeing as how I just got her and all, plus I think I had just about as much shore leave as I can handle for awhile after graduation, so I reckon I'll stick around and get to know my new best girl here," he concluded with a grin and a glance around. "Looks like y'all had a little rough goin' before comin' in for a pit stop. Is that sort of a regluar thing 'round here, Commander?"

Ethan had never lost so many times at poker in one sitting, but it was fun all the same. He would have to refresh his playing skills if he wanted to contend with the El Sal's officers.
Once the ship was safely docked on Assailant, Ethan allowed himself to relax completely. He hadn't done that since he had come on the El Sal a couple of months ago. Ethan was now roaming the corridors of the starbase. Probably the biggest one he could remember. He hadn't spent much time on bases, since he used to have a phobia of really big places.
That fear quickly disappeared when he realized that space was really big and he could never escape it.
"Excuse me, young huuuman, I bet that you would like these precious stones?" an older Ferengi said holding up a bag of what looked like nice stones.
"No thank you, I already bought some from another Ferengi down there somewhere," Ethan referring to the bag of stuff that he was carrying.
"What? I am the only person that has the right to sell these stones!" the Ferengi jeered. He was soon on his way looking for the other Ferengi. Of course he would not find anyone since Ethan had just wanted to get rid of him. Ferengi's they are so territorial, Ethan mused.
Other than a little shopping, Ethan didn't do much. He decided not to take such a long R&R and so he spent most of his time wandering the El Sal and getting some miscellaneous work done.
Ethan had never known a ship to be so quiet, but he found that he liked the peace and quiet that it offered him, but by the fifth day he was already itching to get back out there and do some more exploring.

Commander Savot stood on the bridge, as pairs of Bynar teams occupied the various bridge consoles, and other stations all around the ship. The repair efforts had been completed, and the backup of the ship's computer core memory had been re-transferred back to the re-formatted cores. Now came the time to ensure the total success of the undertaking and pronounce the El Salvador ready for duty.
The overseeing Engineer nodded the readiness of the test team to Savot, who returned the nod giving permission to proceed. The diagnostic of the ship's total core would take approximately 2 hours with the aid of the multiple Bynar pairs stationed throughout the ship at key areas.
Captain Irae had finished transmitting her report to the higher ups, and leaving Savot to supervise the simple diagnostic, took advantage of the time to head to the exercise room and work out some of her stress through some various activities.
Savot tapped the intra-ship communications button on the center seat console and spoke a brief message through the comm-badges of all registered El Salvador crew whether they were onboard or still on Assailant, =^= El Salvador crew. Final diagnostic is being conducted on the computer core. All crew return to the ship and your duty stations within 1.5 hours in preparation for launch following confirmation of successful core restoration. Bridge out. =^=

In Main Engineering, precisely ninety minutes after Commander Savot's announcement, Judd stood by at the Situation Board, along with one of the Bynar engineers. He had spent most of the previous night inside the main computer core itself, replacing memory module circuits, while the Bynar, who had introduced himself as Klen, tested the replaced circuits and pronounced them sound.
Now, as Judd looked around, he saw that every station was manned, and all was in readiness. He hit his commbadge. =/\=Main Engineering to Bridge, ready an' standin' by t' monitor all systems,=/\= he reported, with not a touch of nervousness.
