Judd consulted the schematic showing in his visor read-out, then compared it with the readings from his tricorder. "There's a computer core access on this deck, amidships and about three sections aft," he reported, feeling a bit uncomfortable as the team surrounded him, effectively placing him in the middle of the formation. "I should be able to get anything I want from there." His visor showed no life forms within range for the moment, and that made him feel a touch better. "Lead on, McDuff!" he ordered.

*On the main bridge*
Deis sat comfortably in the center seat, her impromptu plan working like a charm. She had needed that after the past months of near-miss disaster. In short, she just felt damn good.
"Well plotted strategy Mr. Zimmerman. We got the jump on the pirates just as ye planned", the Captain congratulated her science officer on his successful stratagem, "Get repair teams on those long-range sensors right away an' keep yer weather eye open in case anyone else out there gets bold."
As Zimmerman nodded and went to the task at hand, Deis tapped her commbadge and hailed the secondary hull, =^= Irae to Parsons. Commander, we seem to have reached a lull in the fighting for the moment an' I want to take advantage of the time by gettin' some more intel on this whole situation. Mr. Wolf should have secured the captured pirates in the hold. I want the lot of them interrogated on the off chance they'll be knowin' somethin' not included in their ship's computers. Either yerself or one of your staff ye trust to handle the job, start wringin' everything ye can out of them; one of them might know what's become of the Veridian. Savot and I will remain separated and on-station to cover both yer work and that of Wolf and Sandage. Irae out.=^=

Wolf: The team was working perfectly they had encountered light resistance on there way to the location Sandage had picked out. He could tell the lt didn't like all the heavy protection but the mission was importan and he couldn't afford Sandage being harmed. They arrived at there objective and started to set up a primiter. " Okay Sandage this is all you now dont worry about what you hear just get what you need okay but if you can help by locking out doors and force them to come down this hallway by all means do so. I think you might be right about the bar idea this places just doesn't have any class maybe we'll steal a borg ship and use that " <Tag Sandage>

Judd set to work immediately. He quickly removed and tossed aside an access panel, exposing the somewhat dated circuitry of the old computer core. He touched a strange-looking device to a paticular spot, and did the same with a similar tool in another spot. The result was a smallish rectangular unit popped up. Judd's hand dipped into his tool kit, and came out a second later with a short length of shielded wire. One end was attached to the unit, the other to Judd's modified tricorder. He entered a few quick commands into the tricorder, then hit a control. The tricorder began bleeping and chirping as it negotiated with the old Klingon computer. Five seconds later, it was linked, and Judd hit another control. Then he looked up at Wolf. "Now we wait," was all he said.

"Understood, Captain," Parsons responded. The CTSO knew that the young officers on board the secondary hull section had no experience with interrogation, so he assigned a grizzled old Chief to begin interrogating the prisoners until he could get down to the hold himself.
Parsons then reviewed the status of the secondary hull and the other ships in orbit. Then turning to the next ranking officer, a Lieutenant at the Tactical console, Parsons stated simply, "Lieutenant, you have the bridge. If the status quo changes, alert me immediately."
"Aye, Sir," said they young lieutenant as he moved to the command chair to replace Parsons, who had just entered the turbolift.

Wolf: Looked at Sandage "Now we wait well I guess I should take my shoe's off and sit a spell" It seemed like forever before they heard the pirates coming down the hall things were going to get busy really quick. Looking around the team already were taking cover. Turning back to Sandage " Since you are in the computer could maybe do something to slow them down a bit" <Tag Sandage>

Judd furrowe his eyebrows. "Mayhap I can," he said, and turned to his set-up. He tapped a few commands in rapid succession...then tapped a few more...then more quickly a few more...and, just as a group of Pirates rounded a corner, they ran full-face into a red-tinged forcefield, which threw them backwards and knocked several of them unconscious. Then the shield began to spark and sputter. "Damn, it's ain't gonna hold fer long," he muttered as he turned back to his padd again. He made efforts to speed up his information-gathering program, which was difficult enough with a Starfleet-issue tricorder, never mind one which was attached to an obselete Klingon-designed computer core. Then the tricorder began beeping again. Judd looked, and felt relieved...almost. "Okay, we're almost finished here. I'm gonna hafta drop that shield so we can get outta here. You boys best be ready!"

Turning to his team "okay were going to have to fight our way back to the transport point" Checking his gear and making sure that Sandage was ready " Okay were ready to move when your ready and please stay close I know you can fight but the information you have is very importan and has to make it back in one peace" <Tag Sandage>

Judd disconnected the now-much-more-valuable tricorder and secured it inside a zippered pocket, protecting it from...whatever might happen. He yanked the cord free of the Klingon computer and tucked away along with his toolkit. He didn't waste time replacing the access cover, even though something within him was repulsed at the idea. Instead, he drew his phaser and set it for heavy stun, and hit his commbadge. =/\=Sandage to El Salvador, We've got what we came for, but we're gonna have to fight out way back to the transport site. We could sure as shootin' use a distraction over here!=/\=
<TAG El Sal Bridge>
Just about then, the already-weakened forcefield sputtered and gave out. The Pirates, wasting no time, opened fire on the boarding party. Judd dropped to one knee and prepared to defend himself and his precious tricorder, as the security team began returning fire.

The first and third portions of El Salvador were standing by, keeping alert for any other troubles that might arise so they could cover the center portion of the ship and the old Klingon vessel they were boarding to hopefully find the location of the pirates' main base. Savot and Ethan had manuevered the heavily damaged pirate vessel into a stable, stationary position and both they and Captain Irae's portion began receiving frantic hails from the damaged attack ships.
Deis furrowed her brow in aggravated confusion as she wondered what could possibly have them quite so jittery. Opening hailing frequencies, she opened visual contact with one of the damaged pirates. Before she could utter a single syllable; however, the pirate commander burst into rapid, desperate speech, =^= Starfleet! You've got to take us off these ships NOW! Once base knows we're captured they'll remo...=^= The haggard pirate's face on the viewscreen was instantaneously replaced by an inferno of explosions and in an eye-blink all three of the vessels that had been cloaked to attack them disintegrated into small space debris scattering in all directions...
Deis stared in complete amazement at the viewscreen and wondered what the Hell had just happened. Even as she turned towards Zimmerman he opened with an explanation, "Captain I think he was going to say something about remote detonation. None of those ships had battle damage of enough severity to destroy them, and the explosions had a different reading than those instituted by a normal self-destruct. Their base, wherever it is, must have rigged their ships to be blown remotely by a subspace burst signal."
Deis went slightly agape at the thought of killing your own people to keep your butt out of the flames, but then her eyes widened in realization and she dove back into her chair rapidly calling up the sensor readings of the Klingon boarding vessel, "My God! Tha' means the other could go any second!"
Tapping her commbadge she started to warn the landing party when their own transmission came through. =/\=Sandage to El Salvador, We've got what we came for, but we're gonna have to fight out way back to the transport site. We could sure as shootin' use a distraction over here!=/\=
Before the echo of his last word faded she was already responding, =^= Boarding team get the Hell out of there now! That ship's rigged to blow and it could go any second! Wolf, get yer team to the transport site flank. Switch t' yer nightvision; we'll give ye that distraction. Bridge out.=^=
Quickly ending her communication, she sent out a message to the other 2 pieces of her ship, =^= Target the last ship's power systems at the following coordinates and fire immediately. Keep the power low, just enough to kill the power. Hopefully we'll succeed in just giving our people the cover of darkness by blowin' the ship's lights and not end up knockin' the junkpile's gravity generators out. Move gentlemen. =^=
As one, the three vectors of the El Salvador took up varying angles with respect to the old Klingon vessel, and simultaneously opened fire with low-power phasers at their power generators. Thankfully the plan seemed to work as hoped, as the pirate vessel's lights, normal and emergency, blinked out as the ship rocked from the minor fire it was taking...

instantly screaming to his team " Everybody switch to night Vison now" Turning to Sandage " It keeps getting better and better I think its time to leave follow my lead okay" Looking down at his gear he pulled the stun gernades 3 of them and set them to maximum yeild. Throwing them down the hall and counting to 3 the gernades went off waiting a few extra secounds the team started to move. " Sandage your gear is set up with the ship plans you nead to get us to the nearest transportable sight lets move people keep comm traffic down listen to Sandage directions I dont want anybody lost" <Tag Sandage>

Parsons arrived in the hold and continued the interrogations with the assistance of the grizzled old chief. The subjects had been separated and a few were beginning to tell all they knew.
Meanwhile on the bridge of the Secondary hull, the young lieutenant in command had his hands full monitoring the away team and coordinating with the other two sections of the El Sal in firing on the boarded enemy ship.
The bridge had notified Parsons of the away teams success as the CTSO arrived in the hold. Shortly thereafter, the ship was rocked by an outside explosion. "Bridge, this is Parsons, report."
"All of the enemy vessels but the boarded one have somehow exploded," responded the lieutenant.
Parsons shouted into the comm system, "Get our away team out of there, now!"
"Aye, Sir, the Captain has a plan." The three sections of the El Sal opened fire on the remaining enemy ship. There was a localized explosion and the pirate's ship went dark.

Remote destruct? Judd thought. Just great. Fighting our way off a flying bomb. Ten, the old Bird-of-Prey shook, and the lights went out. "There's our distraction," he said dryly as he consulted the schematic in his helmet viewer. "Okay, we can transport from the cargo hold. It's one deck down from here." He looked around, then pointed. "Over there! An access hatch! Let's go!"

When the Pird-of-Prey started shaking, Judd whipped out his Engineering tricorder, took a reading, and felt his stomach drop. "The warp core on this heap is about thirty seconds from goin' critical!" he reported. He took another quick reading. "Door number two will get us into the cargo bay." He ripped a panel off the bulkhead and yanked on a manual control. The door slowly started to slide open, and team members immediately started shoving through, even as Judd hit his comm. =/\=Sandage to El Salvador! The warp core on this tub is about t' go critical! Get us outta here NOW!=/\=
Judd watched his tricorder ccounting down the final seconds. Judd prepared himself to settle up with the Almighty...and found himself enveloped in a wonderful blue transporter beam.

Wolf: opened the access hatch to the cargo bay as the team filed in. When the ship started to shake turning to sandage he realized they were in big trouble. For amoment wolf looked back down the hall and thought he saw the ship coming apart when he felt the transporter grab hold. When the team appeared in the transport room wolf let out the breath he had been holding. Captain Irae tapped her commbadge in reply, =^= That's affirmative gentlemen. We've got ye here with us on the primary hull, but ye can get back t' Main Engineering as soon as we're recombined, an' we're linin' up for final docking approach as we speak. Another 30 seconds, give or take. Ye'll know once ye feel the shudder. Sandage, I want that data analyzed right away, confer with Mr. Savot if ye feel the need fer assistance. Wolf, Commander Parsons should be in the detention area interrogatin' our 'guests'. Get yerself down t' him and see if he's needin' any help twistin' arms... figuratively speaking mind ye. I'm thinkin' the computer data will be the more helpful source of intel, but ye never know. I want a location on both the pirate base and the Veridian yesterday. Oh and gentlemen, excellent work the both o' ye. Welcome home, Irae out. =^=
As she tapped her commbadge with a smile both at her officers' safe return and hopefully their success, Deis indeed felt the slight shudder throughout the ship that signalled the completion of the recombination process. The El Salvador was once again a single, whole battleship that with any luck would soon be bringing its force to bear against the head of the Serafyn Blades' proverbial snake...

Parsons had been working on a few of the pirate prisoners when he received word that the awayteam was safely aboard the primary hull and the ship was lining up for reuniting.
It appeared so far that the underlings in the pirates' hierarchy were intentionally kept in the dark on as much as possible. Parsons had managed to learn that the group had a base hidden in a nearby asteroid belt in the form of a tunneled out asteroid. The CTSO reported his findings thus far to the Captain.

Judd just grinned, then gave Wolf a look. "What y'shouldn't do, is go in bein' somethin' you ain't. The Captain don't go in for that kinda thing." Then he nodded to the tricorder in his hand. "Now if y'all will excuse me, I got me soe work to do!"
Ten minutes later, after taking a quick shower and donning a fresh uniform, Judd was back in his office in Main Engineering. He quickly downloaded the contents of the tricorder's memory into the main computer. Next, since most of the information was in a hodgepodge of scripts and languages, he had the computer run it through a translation algorithim. There was quite a lot of information; even so it only took a couple of minutes, and the information was available for viewing on the console at his desk. He scrolled it up....and blinked. It was all in some kind of code! "Computer," he said, "analyse this inormation for any recognisable encryption or ccode sequence."
The computer worked for about five seconds, then bleeted. "The information scanned does not conform to any known encryption or code," it informed him matter-of-factly.
Judd vented an exasperated sigh and tapped his commbadge. =/\=Sandage to Bridge, I have good news and bad news. The good news is, I've got the information downloaded into the conputer and translated. The bad news is, it's in some sort of code that the computer doesn't recognise. I'm gonna need some big brains to help on this,=/\= he concluded.

5.4.3.2.1....docked, the tertiary hull of the USS El Salvador was now reattached to the rest of the ship. The El Sal was now hull, and Ethan thought he liked it best that way. Commander Savot gave the shutdown orders and Ethan quickly did as he was told. Once they were done there, they were transported to the main bridge.
"And I wanted to do a bit of walking," Ethan mused to himself, which seemed to get the attention of the Vulcan commander. Ethan flushed with embarrassment, but went back to work.
The captain had already ordered the rest of the senior staff to work on downloading the information from the Klingon ship and it was now Ethan's job to interrupt all the sensor data during the battle. Ethan knew that there was a possibility that the pirates contacted others like them. This information would also come in handy if they met more of there friends.
Things returned to normalcy on the bridge, but everyone was aware that they were no where close to being safe in this sector of space. Worse was the current problem facing them. Lt. Sundage had just reported that had failed to interrupt the downloaded information. It had been encrypted and according to him it would take a lot more than Ethan's current knowledge of decoding. Fortunately for him the El Salvador had many more experienced officers than he.
"Captain, I can work on encryption program, but I don't know how much help it will be," Ethan said offering to help out.

Savot and Ethan had just reappeared on the main bridge as the Engineer's voice came over the comms, =/\=Sandage to Bridge, I have good news and bad news. The good news is, I've got the information downloaded into the conputer and translated. The bad news is, it's in some sort of code that the computer doesn't recognise. I'm gonna need some big brains to help on this,=/\= he concluded.
"Captain, I can work on encryption program, but I don't know how much help it will be," Ethan said offering to help out.
Savot turned and nodded to the Ops chief, "Indeed, Mr. Hope, do so. But form merely the general template of a program for the moment. If my hypothesis regarding the encryption algorithm is correct, we shall have to piece together a program out of several already established decryption programs. Stand by for my signal." As Ethan nodded in reply Savot gave a nod of his own to the Captain in a brief, wordless request to leave the bridge. The Captain just as briefly granted it with an almost imperceptible nod in reply. The vulcan Commander then stepped into the turbolift and proceeding downward.
*********************************************
Entering main Engineering, Savot was greeted right away by a prepared display of flashing sections of the as-yet-unknown code. Perusing the screen for a moment as portions scrolled by, Savot examined them for a moment and then spoke, "Lieutenant, hold on current screen and isolate the lower right quadrant of code."
As Sandage pulled up the requested section, the vulcan leaned in over the console without invading the Engineer's personal bubble, and took in the code segment piece by piece. Several moments passed in silence, the vulcan so unmoving as to likely spawn wonderings in the surrounding crew as to whether or not the First Officer had somehow frozen in place. Indeed, with so much of their focus narrowed on Savot, a few actually jerked in startlement when he spoke again without warning, "If I may, Lieutenant?"
Sandage slid his chair out of the way a bit to give Savot room, and the vulcan leaned further over the console and began tapping away at the console commands. After approximately 25 seconds the vulcan leaned back a little to allow Sandage to slide back into direct view of the screen. Upon it, the "paragraph" of code fragments was now highlighted in different colors: red, green, and blue. The segment was then split apart and the pieces of the segment reordered themselves in columns according to their color.
Savot saw the understanding quickly start to flood Sandage's eyes and the vulcan nodded, "Yes, Mr. Sandage. The pirate's code is a mixture of the typical coding schemas of Klingon, Romulan, and Federation ships. This follows logically with the knowledge we have that the pirates obviously had access to the computer cores of at least one Klingon and one Romulan vessel. The Federation coding algorithm could have been procured either through underground purchase, or pulled from the computer of the Veridian following her capture. I believe the latter to be the more likely scenario, but in any case, the fact remains that we have determined the basis of the pirates' code."
Savot leaned back up to a fully standing position, "However, the challenge now becomes determining how to arrange the pieces we've isolated. They seem to have adapted their own coding method to arrange the sections of pre-existing code. We shall have to determine their algorithm before we can assemble the decrypted data. Were there any technical devices found on the pirates' boarding party? It is possible we could extrapolate their coding schema from a piece of their equipment."

Wolf: Stood at easy and listend as Commander Parsons updated him on the prisoners
"I've been trying to get some information out of our guests here with limited success. They have indicated that a pirate base exists in a nearby asteroid belt, but that's about all they have confirmed so far. You are welcome to take a crack at a few of them if you like." smiled alittle and said " I think I know how to get some more information out of them"
Walkeing over to a terminal and pulling up the explosion of the pirate ship to play for the prisoners to watch after the video clip ran wolf turned to the prisoners " You know your boss doesn't trust you I was over there on you ship I watch as the crew exploded one by one before the ship blew up, your boss wanted to make sure nobody escaped in a life pod. We have been able to block the signal that activates the explosive hidden in your body hell you guys dont even know its there he probley put it in your food. Your friends died not evenging getting a chance to fight they died with out earning honor. Sounds to me like your boss is a fool now you sit her in our brig if we were to let you go you would die it just seems that if your boss is going to do this they should pay maybe if I knew where to look for him or how to find him I could capture him and put him in the brig with you guys it only seems fair after what they have done to your friends"
Standing there waiting to see if anyone would crack wolf turned to Commander parsons and smiled letting him know he had no intention of puting there boss in the same cell with them it was a bluff they stood there and waited <Tag Parsons>
