Savot stood with his hands clasped at the small of his back while Commander Hope digested his final statements. "Yes sir," the Romulan officer agreed a moment later, "I'll join the away team." The vulcan watched the draconic creature in Hope's possession with continued fascination as she moved it to her shoulder before making a final inquiry about the mission, "Captain, may I request an escort?"
During what may have been an internal debate within the science chief, Wolf responded to Savot's inquiry regarding the handling of the probe, " Sir I think we could make that happen not to mention it would appear normal to send a team to find a lost probe it would be a good cover Story. Also if Commander Hope needs a escort I would be more then willing to volunteer my services."
Savot gave a tilted nod, his way of both agreeing with the sensibility of the request and agreeing to the request itself, as he replied, "I thought you might Mr. Wolf", he nodded to the Marine as he then faced Hope again to reply to her directly, "It was my intent to have both Colonel Wolf and Mr. Roberts accompany you, with the remainder of the team consisting of any supplementary security or science personnel the three of you felt necessary."
As the group continued congregating near the science station, Hope then addressed her escort, "Colonel, I believe you wanted to ask something earlier?", and Wolf replied immediately, "Yes Commander I'm very interested in what's going on down there and what danger it may present to the ship and its captain. They are my primary concern especialy the captain."
Savot dipped his head in acknowledgement of the Marine's concern, "Your concern is appreciated, Mr. Wolf, though for the duration of the away mission your chief concern will be the safety of the away team. Those of us back here shall simply have to exercise greater care in your absence." Being vulcan did have certain advantages in social situations; for instance, it was hard to tell whether the captain had just used good-natured sarcasm, or if he'd merely given the traditionally literal response any vulcan would. His expression gave no hint as to which was the case.
The vulcan captain was additionally aided by the arrival of their Counselor who seemed to recognize the energy readings as well, “Ghosts of the past hmm?”
Wolf, already in the mindset of gathering as much intelligence about the situation as possible was immediately intrigued by Jackson's comment, "Commander Jackson you have seen this reading before I would be very interested in what you might know. Not to mention if you have hands on experince in which case I would suggest you join the away mission. Knowledge is power and experience is wisdom which would be needed for this mission." He then turned to face his captain "That is if it's okay with you captain the more we know the better our chances are of finding out what's going on down there sir."
Before responding, Savot watched the Counselor's face as she seemed lost in thought, perhaps haunted by 'ghosts of the past' indeed. He didn't intrude upon her thoughts; however, and allowed her to voice her own opinion about joining the away team, “I saw it a number of years ago after the Breen hit earth during the war with the Dominion.... I would be happy to join you… with the captain's permission of course.”
The vulcan, too, had seen the beginnings of tears in the Counselor's eyes, and while it had always been his instinct to attempt to offer support in such moments he was distinctly aware of his shortcomings in that area. Fortunately, Wolf seemed to have notice as well and offered his own words of encouragement, "I think you would be a fine addition if the captain says its okay", and though the Marine spoke more softly with the next thing he said Savot could still make it out but didn't intrude, "You Honor those who you lost and cared about by shedding a tear, it's said with a tear those who have fallen are remembered in the great war camp and given a special place to enjoy their next adventure."
Savot had been about to politely reject the idea for a number of reasons: there was still the possibility that the Breen weren't directly involved at all and as such Jackson's knowledge could be unnecessary, 3 senior officers were already going on the mission, and Counselor Jackson admittedly had no familiarity with starship operations and as such could be put to better use here on the ship after the fact should they discover any survivors.
However, as he thought those through the vulcan also realised that each one could likewise be used as a reason to support her inclusion on the team: they hadn't yet confirmed what was down there so there was no telling whose expertise might be most useful, the El Salvador had yet to encounter anything even remotely unusual on their patrol so there was really no need to keep the majority of the senior staff aboard besides the regular routine, and observing the other away team members would give Jackson an exposure to Standard Operating Procedures in the field.
Also, given the traditional probability that the captain would remain a distant figure from most of the crew, their best chance for a sense of comraderie would be amongst each other, and as that last piece of supporting evidence fell into place Savot made his decision, "Very well, Counselor, you may join the away team. Colonel, select defensive personnel to accompany the team and assist the Counselor in prepping the Mini-Sal, currently located in the main shuttlebay. Mr. Roberts will handle the probe 'landing', while Commander Hope selects any additional science personnel and correlates the data gathered thus far. Questions?"
(Insert any inquiries)
(Insert any responses from me afterwards)
The vulcan nodded to his officers, "Very well then, dismissed, and take care."

Looking at his captain he nodded his head, the captain had just made him personaly responsable for the safety of the away team. He had no intention of letting his captain down in any reguards to the request.
" As soon as the away team is ready I'll escort Commander Hope to the shuttle. I'll take a small team with me. I don't want anybody scanning the planet wondering why there's such a big group of us there. I dont want any guest poping in on us.''
He was concerned about the unknown but how many times had he faced it and walked out a live for it. Still there was the safety of the ship and the captain he would never just forget about them.
" I'll start prepping the ship now captain unless there are any other issues I need to be aware" he looked around the group to see if there were any issues he need to know about<tag anybody>

" I think you would be a fine addition if the captain says its okay." he spoke more softly with the next thing he said " You Honor those who you lost and cared about by shedding a tear, its said with a tear those who have fallen are remembered in the great war camp and given a special place to enjoy there next adventure"
Stacey smiled. “Thank you Colonel.” And as quickly as the emotion had washed over her it seemed to wash away replaced by the cold exterior normally only portrayed by Vulcan’s
She listned as the Captain gave her permission to accompany the away team and as he gave orders the the other senior officers who were stood next to S’reena’s science consol

Stacey turned to him and said. “Seems logical but I suggest we take an engineer with us we have no idea what condition the Breen technology is in down there.”

"Thank you captain," S'reena answered in response to her request regarding an escort being honoured. "I shall be in the science labs, selecting additional crew," she added, nodding towards where Pride was standing. "Commander Pride, if you would be so kind as to direct me, and then lead me to the shuttle?"
She extended her arm for the young man to take, smiling ever so slightly. The Romulan had no intention of embarassing him whatsoever, and took great pain at making sure he wouldn't be. Once they stood in the turbolift, she turned to face him. "You're being very kind to me," she stated softly, "why? I have the feeling I ought to know you, and your name is familiar but I can't recall why that is so. Would you care to elaborate?"
On her shoulder, Auric tweedled softly before settling back into her dose. Together, the two commanders left the lift and Pride neatly guided her to her office. "Ten minutes should be sufficient to select a team," she promised and stepped into her office.
Exactly ten minutes later, she stepped out, handing Pride a PADD before tapping her combadge. "Ensign Kathy Meadow, Crewman Mark Edison, Lieutenant Matt Forbes, report to shuttle bay one in ten minutes and be prepared for an extreme circumstances away mission."
Again, she turned to face Pride. "Meadows is a geographer, Edison a environmental engineer and Forbes is a chemist. They'll be quite useful, I'm sure. Shall we?" She gestured towards where she knew the door was situated.

Looking at Commander Jackson and smiling he knew how hard it was for her. "I beleive your recomendation is a good one I'm not a engineer and haveing me mess with something. Is like having a bull in a china shop. I'll make sure Commander Hope encludes a engineer in the away team"
"I would be grateful for the help in preping the ship, I'll meet you there when I'm done escorting Commander Hope" <Tag Jackson>
He escorted Commander Hope to her office while on the way she had called him Commander Pride again and asked where she knew him from. He didn't take it personaly but when she asked where she knew him from he remembered there mission together.."Commander Hope my name is Lt Col Running wolf. As to where we have met I served under you in my training days along time ago. If you remember Admiral Drew was shot because I missed the target"
he paused for amoment he wasn't happy about his failure so long ago " I have come along way since then and certain wrongs have been corrected from that day. As to my kindness just because you can't see dose not change how I would act to any crew member. Also I have already checked the logs you are still current on flight status. I'm going to have the controls changed alittle for you to pilot the shuttle. You will know best to where to set down and how close"<tag Hope>

S'reena pondered on Wolf's words as he led her towards the shuttle. "I don't know where you get the idea commander," she suddenly spoke up, in reply to their conversation, "but I am in no condition to fly a shuttle. While you are correct that I could use the console, I have no way of seeing where I am going, or even know where to land. And to rely on a second person to tell me is too risky."
The Romulan paused, taking a few seconds to listen, then smiled. "Perhaps you could let Commander Jackson pilot?" she suggested, loud enough for the counselor to overhear if she was close enough to do so.
If Stacey’s ears could have physically perked up they would have, she had indeed heard, Stacey had expressed interest in learning about Starships in the past and wondered if S’reena remembered that from their instructor days. “I have a basic knowledge of shuttlecraft flight.. as long as Mr. Wolf would be happy to co-pilot with me in case of emergency he could take over.”
<tag Wolf>
S'reena nodded. "My scientists shall be here in a minute. In the mean time, would someone help me aboard?"
"Let me Commander." Stacey gently took S'reena's arm and led her carefully up the loading ramp. They made it to the chair behind a console that was used by a science officer. “Here you are Commander the chair is directly behind you.” <Tag you..
Stacey leaned in close enough to whisper quietly so only S’reena could hear her. “Now I am as nervous as Ga’gh on a Klingon’s plate.” There was humour in her voice but also the signs of nerves
S'reena smiled encouragingly as she reached back for the seat, then sat down. "You'll be fine commander," she answered, equally softly, "and Wolf'll be there all the time so nothing can go wrong."
Stacey smiled back then frowned as she remembered S’reena wouldn’t know she was smiling. “Thank you S’reena that makes me feel better.. if you ever get bored with Science you may just make it as a Counsellor.’
A few science members began coming aboard Stacey looked up and noticed Wolf outside briefing some of his men behind the Science officers and one lone Engineer. “Welcome aboard ladies and gentleman.”
"I hate counselors," the Romulan confided to the other woman, "that is...when they want me as part of their profession. Otherwise...you're welcome. But I'd not make a good one, too much of a temper I'm afraid." She listened as more people entered. "Are we all here?" She listened again as people called off their names as being present. "Mr Wolf, I do believe you're in command of this away mission?"
Stacey laughed. “Fair enough Commander.” Stacey listened as Wolf began giving the entire team some more details on the mission, she had nothing to add and was in full confidence that all the team members were fully capable of their jobs
<Tag Wolf>
"Science reports ready to go," S'reena announced after her additions had reported their own readiness to her. "Let's go, shall we? The sooner we go, the sooner we can report back to the captain."
Stacey looked to Colonel Wolf and said. “let’s begin flight checklist.” She and Wolf began checking the systems on the ship which made Stacey feel a lot better about flying the thing. And Wolf seemed to know very well what he was doing.

He knew it was useless to fight it even if he was in command. Not to mention if after thought it wasn't a bad Idea to get Commander Jackson trainned and caught up on ship operations. Although he felt Commander Hope should have copiloted instead he didn't push it. He didn't want Commander hope falling back on the issue she was blind. In todays day and age there were ways around that.
Finishing his brief to his Gunney he add a few things he didn't want the rest of the crew hearing " I dont know what we will find Gunney no clue yet, but the safety of the crew and team are our first concern. If we can't secure whats down there then we blow it up we dont need anybody getting there hands on a waepon. If it means leaving somebody behind to make sure this happens then it will fall on me. Under no circumstance will it be one of the crew I dont care what orders they issue they will not over rule mine."
Finishing his breif he walked into the shuttle to see everybody seated. Commander Jackson wanted to start preflight. He took his seat and waited for her to start he wanted to see how much she remembered to better figure out how to guide her. He had long since learned to wait and help out only when needed. He looked backed and noticed Roberts wasn't there yet. Tapping his combadge " Roberts the party is about to leave and you are late I know how you like to make a entrance so can you please hurry." <tag Roberts>
Looking back at Commander Jackson he smiled a little he was trying to make her feel at easy. "So far Commander you doing good final preflight is almost done. Since you are the only one who has any idea what we are dealing with I will leave it to you to pick our landing spot. I'll be right here if anything happens but if you keep going the way you are then I dont see any need for me to jump in. You have remembered everthing so far even a few things I just skip so your doing good" <Tag Jackson>
Turing to face Commader Hope " Once we land you will take the lead on how we approach what ever it is. Nobody'' as he spoke loud enought for everybody to hear " Nobody approaches or touches anything with out Commander Hope's okay. I want you all back a board in one peice and not glowing green or anything wierd like that" <Tag Hope>

John had dropped by the armory to get a few things in case it was too be needed, with the Breen possibly being in the area it was best to be over armed than be caught short if the need for reared it's ugly head. Then, as he took hold of the last phaser rifle, his comm badge chirped it to life, tapping it he answered the call of Wolf.
" Roberts the party is about to leave and you are late I know how you like to make a entrance so can you please hurry."
"I will be there in a few minutes Colonel" he replied, before tapping his comm badge again.
Rushing out of the armory, the rifles he had slung over his shoulder bangs together, the sound of metal on metal ringing out down the corridor. Catching a turbolift, he sorted them out more safely, to minimize the chance of accidental discharge, after all, it was not his intent for a fellow starfleet officer to be injured. John had also thought about one of the new officers, she wasn't going to much use in a fire fight with her blindness, so he thought it best that she didn't have a firearm, besides the standard federation issue phaser, didn't want any friendly fire either.
Arriving at the shuttle h shouted out to each officer.
"Here, I thought it best to be armed considering we may be heading into a Breen infested area, Commander Hope, I do not think it to be wise that you are armed with a phaser rifle considering your blindness, however, an officer must stay with you at ALL times, and that is none negotiable"
(Hope/all)
"I trust you all know how to use it correctly" he asked, looking at each officer in turn, including wolf, even though he knew Wolf obviously did.

He smiled back at Roberts and tried not to laugh he knew he was just doing his job. " Well to think I got you nothing in return. Oh wait I did you got a trip to a strange planet to search for a weapon that could cause harm with unkown enmeys who might want to kill us, and you thought I forgot about you"
He knew Roberts would know he was joking but he was happy to see him mind focused on the mission. He was also happy to see him looking out for Commander Hope it was a step in the right direction.
" Well since the whole gang is here its time we get the show on the road and move out. Commander Jackson the ship is yours time for us to go sight seeing take some pictures and most of all find out whats going on down there" <Tag Jackson>
Looking aroud the crew seemed in good spirits he was hoping after they were done they would still be in one piece and good spirits but when it came to the unkown anything could happen. He was happy to have Roberts along his job got a little easyer now, he wouldn't have to worry quite so much about everybody saftey.

Stacey had just finished the checklist when Roberts entered the shuttle handing out phasers to the crew.
After sharing a joke with Roberts, Wolf turned to her and said.
" Well since the whole gang is here its time we get the show on the road and move out. Commander Jackson the ship is yours time for us to go sight seeing take some pictures and most of all find out whats going on down there"
Stacey smiled and said. “ooh sight seeing is always fun, I hope one of you brought a picnic basket sight seeing makes me hungry.”
Pressing the console Stacey closed the door to the shuttle, and then activated the shuttles engines. Pressing another console she activated the comm. Panel. “Jackson to bridge, permission to disembark?”
<Tag Savot>
The shuttle bay doors opened and revealed the sight that was hiding behind them, the blackness of space mostly with a lot of twinkling stars.
“Here we go.”
She said mostly to herself. Pressing the console she plotted the course to the planet and then slowly lifted the shuttle off the ground and forward out of the shuttle doors. As the Mini-Sal made it out into space Stacey sighed an inward sigh of relief.
“I am going to take it slow, rushing there we will take the chance of raising suspicion from the Klingons and Hirogen and we really don’t need any more people for our sight seeing.”

As Stacey piloted the shuttle she thought about the Breen and what they had done to her, anger boiled inside of her but she was able to contain it and not let it show to the rest of the crew inside of the Mini-Sal. As she pressed the console she remembered back to the darkest hour of her life and possibly one of the darkest times in federation history.
2375 5 Months after the attack on the Starfleet Headquarters:
Stacey Jackson was in the co-pilot position of a shuttle her destination a planet on the border of the frontlines with Cardiassia, the troops there had been stationed for several months and Stacey had volunteered to give some moral support, since the death of her fiancé she had been reluctant to stay on Earth too many memories haunted her there.
The shuttle approached the planet at warp five and Stacey knew they wouldn’t be there for at least three hours, the pilot had been assigned to her and was to stay with her at all times not only was he trained in shuttle piloting but he was highly trained in combat. Stacey had pulled many strings and called in a lot of favours to get this assignment since the death of her fiancé she had wanted to do more, needed to do more. And since her only specialty was counselling that would have to do.
After three hours of being stuck in the shuttle they had finally arrived at their destination a federation contingent had been stationed here and were under constant attacks by the Dominion, Stacey knew that there was a danger she could be hurt or worse killed but she was in a state of mind that would have welcomed that outcome.
After landing on the planet in a zone that was described as safe she ran along with her ‘protector’ to the large cave system that was serving as a base for the federation soldiers. As she entered the cave the look of the men and women standing around her almost took her breath away. They were dirty their clothes ripped and looking like they had given up hope. The sight caused Stacey to almost break into tears the suffering that showed on their faces was extreme. As she approached the Lieutenant who appeared to be in charge she tried not to stare at the men and women. The lieutenant nodded to her before saying.
“You must be Counsellor Jackson, Welcome to hell.”
Stacey held out her hand and shook his hand before replying.
“Lieutenant I want you to know the thoughts of the Federation are with you.”
The lieutenant nodded as he smiled a weak smile. “well now you’re here you may as well get to work we have 250 men and women down here most of us have been here for months and seen more atrocities than anybody should have to ever see in that time, you have your work cut out for you.”
Stacey nodded slowly her Vulcan and Betazoid upbringing was now more of a curse than a blessing even though she looked calm and collected on the outside she was hurting on the inside the death of her fiancé had been a blow bigger than she could handle but no one could see it and no one thought she needed help.
Three days passed and Stacey had spoken to about seventy troops, who all told stories that seemed to cut into their very core of being, Stacey didn’t know if she was being of any help, but she felt better knowing they now had someone to talk to rather than bottle it up.
Another four days passed and Stacey thought she was making progress that was until an attack was made by the Cardassian’s on the Federation base. They entered firing their weapons and Stacey saw at least ten Starfleet officers fall dead in the initial attack. To the credit of the Starfleet personnel they didn’t take long to mount an effective defensive plan, but the casualties were mounting. Stacey was in the back of a large cavern that the Cardassian’s had just breached. She was unarmed and scared out of her mind, she thought about her own death and all of a sudden her fear disappeared. Her ‘protector’ and shuttle pilot was hit square in the chest and crumpled to the ground. Stacey in her adrenaline driven state grabbed his phaser and fired. The beam hit a Cardassian he flew back and landed on the ground, it happened in slow motion for Stacey, she had killed someone and to her horror she didn’t feel bad she felt good and happy, she continued firing. She had killed more than she could count as they ran through the narrow cave door. But she felt no guilt only happiness that they were gone.
Present Day.
Stacey looked at the control panel, the feeling of pleasure she had had while killing the Cardassian’s has haunted her to this day and was something that to this day she tried to bury deep within herself. Stacey had lived through a bad war and like any other Starfleet officer her age she had lost friends to the Dominion but she was still ashamed at being happy at taking the lives of those Cardassian troops. Stacey went back to piloting the shuttle the flash back to her past must have only taken seconds because no one seemed to notice, although Stacey demeanour had changed she was more uptight and she sat straighter in her chair.

He was happy to see Commander Jackson had a sense of humor to often people clamed up and kept quite. As she piloted the shuttle he kept a close eye on the read outs and course setting so far she was doing a good job. He looked back up at her and could tell she was a million miles away. He had seen that look before in himself remembering the ghost of past mission.
She came back from the trip that only took a few moments but her demeanour was changed. She seemed uptight but was covering it up well. Must be her trainnning as a counselor he thought to him self. Still it concerned him most people would have missed it but his trainning was focused on assignation and reading the target. So He picked up body laungage and appearnce quite well. He couldn't blame her his ghost were never far from his mind he still thought about his last mission and for what.
He looked back down at the controls " Commander Jackson you are doing well keep this up and we are going to have to give you a gold star." he turned to Roberts and with only look and a hand motion he told Roberts to watch her as well. He had Roberts were both trainned in combat differnt aspects but both just as deadly. There were things that each could tell each other with just a simple signal.
" Okay everybody we'll be setting down shortly Commander Hope and Jackson will take the lead I want security tight and close." He looked back at roberts with concern showing on his own face what were they going into and how would Jackson and Hope do.

" Commander Jackson you are doing well keep this up and we are going to have to give you a gold star."
Stacey shot a smile at Wolf as she said. “I will hold you to that Colonel.”
" Okay everybody we'll be setting down shortly Commander Hope and Jackson will take the lead I want security tight and close." Wolf said
Stacey took her eyes off the controls and looked at Colonel Wolf to see if he was seruise. She leaned in and whispered almost silently so no one but him could here.
“Nice try Colonel I have seen the holo-novels the person in front always gets shot first you take the lead please I am too pretty to be shot.”
There was humour in her voice but behind the humour there was a good point she was making, they could be walking into danger and a Counsellor and a Blinded science officer were not the ideal pair to follow.
As the Mini-Sal approached the planet Stacey scanned the surface close to the energy signature. The safest landing spot was about a kilometre away any closer than that and she may be landing right into possible hostile territory.
“Ok people we are going to need to travel a kilometre on foot, according to scans the temperature is a nice and cool 38 degrees Celsius so pack water packs you are going to get dehydrated pretty quickly.”
Stacey held the shuttle steady as she entered the atmosphere of the planet but there was still turbulence.
The shuttle landed a little harder than Stacey had planned and everyone bounced in their chair. She turned to Wolf with a sheepish smile on her face as she said. “If the paintwork is scratched I’m blaming you.”
<tag Wolf, any>
The crew hoisted there phaser rifles over their shoulder and some put back packs on with water packs and other supplies, Stacey herself grabbed a small hand phaser and placed it in her belt and grabbed the medical kit from under the pilots console. She was no doctor but in pinch she had basic knowledge that could save a life.
“Ok we all packed… Good.” Stacey turned and pressed the console opening the shuttle doors the heat sped in and nearly bowled Stacey over it was such a sudden temperature change Stacey hadn’t prepared herself.

He tried not to laugh but let a smile show Commander Jackson concern was a good one but securiyt would be in front as well heading in the general dirction given. " Don't worry to much commander there will be security team in front of you. As to those Holonovels well I can tell you that they hit the front and the rear to trap the middle. So in fact your chances of making it are better because everybody knows the person in charge is in the middle."
Looking at Roberts and back at commander Jackson " Besides Roberts and me are going to be so close to the two of you, you'll know what type of aftershave we wear. Oh by the way the scratches on the shuttle well if you broke it you bought" he laught alittle
"Roberts your on the left I'll take the right stay close 3 meter spread."
" Commander Jackson please point the way and tell how far security team will set the pace count and stop to look back to you for new direction okay by the way where's the picknick basket I could use some ice tea right now its warm out there"
He was worried to noncombants was enough to worry anybody still they had a mission and he was not going to let anything happen to anybody not this time

"Roberts your on the left I'll take the right stay close 3 meter spread."
" Commander Jackson please point the way and tell how far security team will set the pace count and stop to look back to you for new direction okay by the way where's the picknick basket I could use some ice tea right now its warm out there"
Stacey smirked as she looked to Wolf. “Warm.. This is lovely weather you want warm try going to Vulcan now that’s heat.”
The security team stepped out of the shuttle first followed by Stacey, Hope and the other science team members, Wolf and Roberts were the last to exit the Mini-Sal. Stacey pulled out her tricorder and spun around until she was facing the right direction, she pointed the way she was facing and said loudly.
“One Kilometre that way… Someone remember where we parked.”
The security team took position around Stacey, Hope and the Science team before the group headed toward the energy signature. The terrain was flat luckily for the team but the foliage of the planet was semi thick. It resembled a rainforest on earth but the plants were bigger and there was hardly any moisture in the air, Stacey wondered how the plants grew in such conditions before she remembered not everything was like Earth.
The smell in the air seemed almost acidic, Stacey assumed it was a smell emanating from some of the plant life, her tricorder did not register anything dangerous in the air for the crew so Stacey didn’t let it concern her too much.
Stacey used her free hand to guide Commander Hope around any fallen logs or rocks, after ten minutes of navigating around the plant life Stacey was beginning to feel fatigued, she didn’t let it show on her face instead she used a breathing technique she had learned on Vulcan to steady her breathing. Stacey was no longer as fit as she used to be age had began to take it’s toll on her body, aches and pains had began to plague her and the terrain and heat wasn’t helping any but she fought on. Starfleet Officers from her generation were made of stern stuff it would take more than heat and plants to stop her.
Ten more minutes passed and travel was slow Stacey looked behind her to the Science team and noticed the sweat dripping from their foreheads and their laboured breathing, they looked a little worse for wear and Stacey knew she looked just as bad if not worse. The sweat had caused her hair to stick to her face.
“Ok everyone two minute break take out your water rasions keep hydrated heat stroke is not something you want to get.”
As the Science officers sat down and began to drink Stacey turned to Roberts, Wolf and Hope and said.
“Ok We are halfway there, we need a plan of approach, if there are Breen down here I doubt they are going to appreciate us barging in on them.. They are a secretive society trespassing is not looked upon nicely.”

S'reena let the warm air brush past her face, enjoying the warmth even if there wasn't really any sunlight to enjoy. Where before her eyes had been really sensitive to bright light - as a result from her infection with the vampire virus - now, they were completely insensitive to it as her complete world was now dark as night. She smiled to herself as she relished the smell of fresh air even though, as Stacey had pointed out, it was somewhat acidic.
The Romulan woman allowed herself to be guided, even though she didn't really appreciate being touched - as many Romulans didn't, since it could be a prelude to personal attack if anything else. She turned as she heard her name being called out. Retracing her path with great care so she wouldn't trip, she joined her three scientists.
"I could spend days here ma'am," Ensign Kathy Meadows exclaimed, her voice sounding pleased, "I love the lay of the land, even if it appears somewhat.......barren in some places. If this was Earth, I think I could live here."
S'reena welcomed the woman's enthusiasm which was of course understandable as Meadows was an expert in geography. "What can you tell me about the soil?" she asked as Forbes guided her to what felt like a log and seated her on it.
"Oh, mostly dirt overhere, but I'd like to venture out a little to get more samples for analysis," Meadows explained, "I could take one of the guards with me if I can go." She fell silent as she studied her tricorder. "I'm reading dense rock formations that are very rich on common minerals, but also a few rarer ones. Actually I'm even reading dilithium in smaller traces."
"And I think if there's dilithium here, which I do think we should try to sample, there's a good reason more people will be drawn here, and the Breen are likely to defend this base with tooth and hide," Lieutenant Matt Forbes cut in.
A little distracted, Crewman Mark Edison nodded in agreement. "I don't like this place," he added, "it's just too quiet, I don't hear any birds or crickets or what not. Though rich on minerals and I do see plenty of plants, I'm missing any natural life here. Either this is a planet that's still in development somehow, or recently terraformed, or it's on the brink of death." As an environmental specialist, Edison had a keen eye for detail when it came to life.
"It is quiet," Meadows agreed, still studying her tricorder. "I'm going to get one of the security guys...I won't be long and I'll be checking in every ten minutes."
A little overwhelmed by the sensations Auric was sending her, S'reena had practically missed half of the conversation, until Forbes nudged her hard. "Commander, you're awfully quiet. Are you going to let her go off by herself?"
The Romulan shook her head. "Security goes with her, as are you lieutenant. Edison, you're staying with me, I'd like to hear more about the local environment and your ideas on what impact the Breen might have on it."
Forbes nodded, though not altogether pleased with the idea of wandering off. "With me Meadows," he ordered, "grab your gear." Together, they walked up to where Roberts was standing. "Sir, we'd like to explore into the hills. Ensign Meadows wants to get soil samples and I need to study the environment. Commander Hope wants us to take a few guards with us, for safety's sake."
Meanwhile, Edison studied his boss. "Something is bothering you," he guessed, though as a Betazoid he didn't need to guess altogether. He just thought it politer to do so.
S'reena nodded as Auric took wing to explore for herself. "As you said, it is too quiet. I wonder what the Breen, if it really are Breen, are up to. Some of the readings we got earlier are just too...off. I'm concerned that we are walking straight into a trap."
Mark Edison nodded. "So am I ma'am," he answered, "will you be all right here? I'm going to see if Commander Wolf needs assistance."
The Romulan nodded with a slight smile. "As long as you don't forget I'm here when we have to move out. I'll take a few readings right where I am." Then she pointed upward. "And Auric is feeding me images too which I can process. I'll be fine, don't worry."
Though she couldn't see it, Mark nodded and walked away.

As the took there Break he noticed Commander Hope talking to her staff, He knew whats coming next it didn't matter what the danger was you couldn't stop science people from doing there thing. They wanted to explore a little he didn't see the harm who knows what info they might come across.
" Commander Hope you have 20 mins if my security details calls it sooner no arguements becareful." pausing for a moment and looking around " Commander Hope and Jackson I have a question before you tour begins in every report I have read about the breen they have never station a base on a warm world. This doesn't seem right to me for them to change tatics now. I was wondering if you have info on this matter"
He waited for a response he was still worried about the mission. Things weren't adding up it didn't make sense why here why not there were safer place's in the breen system to hide out why out here with so many ships passing by. Not to mention the breen didn't like warm weather why tax there suites.

***POSTED FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF AN NPC***
Assistant Counsellor Lieutenant Simone Bars stepped out of the Counsellors office she had spoken to Commander Jackson before she had left on the away mission and had been given her orders. Simone looked up at a crewman who was walking past and said in her usual high pitched voice.
“Morning Sunshine, how’s your day?”
Simone was only 5 foot 5 and had gotten used to people looking down on her, what she hadn’t noticed about other people was they tended to cringe when she came near them she was blissfully unaware that in the minds of people she met she was the most annoying person alive.
The Crewman walked past pretending not to notice her and sped up his walking. Simone shrugged and began walking to the turbolift humming an upbeat tune.
Simone Bars had been bounced around from ship to ship, often traded from Chief Counsellor to Chief Counsellor when they couldn’t stand her anymore. Simone herself was also unaware of this she had always assumed she was so good at her job she was wanted by everyone.
Simone stepped onto the turbolift and said. “bridge.”
She continued to hum her black hair and deep black eyes a dead give away of her betazoid blood. She was one of the stronger telepaths of the species but she had two flaws, she was so good she could block out all random thoughts by people and she never opened up unless in session with someone. These flaws had protected her from the opinions of all the people she had annoyed over the years.
The turbolift door opened and she almost skipped out onto the bridge wide smile on her face, she walked up to the command chair and looked at Captain Savot before handing him the PADD and saying.
“Captain… Commander Jackson has ordered me to give you a psych evaluation.. as you can see she has left orders for you to comply.. pursuant to Starfleet Protocols regarding psychological evaluations they are compulsory and the person getting the evaluation is not required to be warned prior to the evaluation.”
Her high pitched voice made some officers squint, but Simone didn’t notice she only stood smiling at the Captain but before he replied, She said.
“your ready room will be fine sir.”
<Tag Savot>
Simone sat down in front of the captains desk as Savot sat in his seat, the wide smile on her face.
“So Captain…according to past mission reports you have been injured on a high number of occasions do you believe that has had a negative impact on your mental well being?”
<tag Savot>
*** IN THE POINT OF VIEW OF STACEY JACKSON***
Stacey looked at the tricorder in front of her as she noticed the time a grin formed on her lips and a cheeky look washed across her face, she fought the impulse to chuckle as she stood in front of Wolf and Roberts. The question about the Breen not having base’s on warm planets wiped the smile off of her face,
“Nobody knows much about the Breen and they have in the past exploited warm planets for resources but they used slaves for the work.. The last proven instance of this was before your time… There is a benefit to being old you know.”

"...thirty four, thirty five..." Seven year old Kahlan Hope was counting, while her younger sister and their friends scooted away.
"You'll never find me!" Ten year old Christian Albers called over his shoulder as he darted away, out of the room and into the corridor.
Five year old Yarna hope followed close on his heels, but instead of darting into the room with him, she shot into the just closing turbolift. Unbeknownst to the girl, the car had been summoned to the bridge, where she got off unnoticed. Who would notice a half-Romulan child anyway? With her scant one meter-ten in length, she was easily overlooked, especially with her light hair.
Looking over her shoulder, Yarna saw the turbolift doors close, but she ran on. Through double doors, and then shot under the desk that was present in the room. Only when she was secure under the desk, did she notice the pair of long legs sticking out beside her.
The girl followed the length of the legs, up the length of a torso and finally her gaze fell upon the stern features of a Vulcan. She shrank back. "Don't tell them I'm here," she whispered, "my sister's looking but if she doesn't find me, I'll win the game."
She shrank back even further when the Vulcan's features didn't change, at all. She could feel his dark eyes upon her, boring into her and she shivered. "Don't eat me...." She was scared, and she could sense this Vulcan didn't approve of her being there.
Yarna was empathic, and she could feel something was wrong either way. "Don't tell mommy," she finally pleaded, though she didn't emerge from under the desk, "please?"

=^=Jackson to bridge, permission to disembark?=^=, the comm from the shuttle piped through the bridge speakers, and as usual out of habit the vulcan nodded unnecessarily in addition to his verbal acknowledgement.
=^=Confirmed, Mini-Sal, you are cleared for launch. We shall monitor your progress as closely as possible. May random chance favor your mission, Savot out=^=, the vulcan replied to the majority of his senior staff as they left to investigate the mysterious readings on a planet's surface in a nearby system.
Once the pilot, presumably Jackson as she had requested clearance, had established a set speed for the shuttle Savot ran some mental calculations of how long it would take either or both of the space combatants to react to its approach. He was reasonably satisfied when a Klingon comm signal came in only 32 seconds later than he had predicted. He ordered Ops to open a channel in response, remaining seated in the center chair as a Klingon's image filled the viewscreen, different from that of the Commander he had previously spoken to.
=^=I am Commander Krolnok, now in command of the Paj'Tlok, our previous commander has fallen during combat=^=, rather than bowing his head as he might in giving condolences to other species in a time of loss, the vulcan captain instead inclined his chin firmly before replying, =^=We join our voices to yours in warning the guards of Sto-Vo-Kor of his arrival.=^=
The Klingon seemed momentarily surprised at the cultural sensitivity but quickly returned to his reason for 'calling', =^=A Federation shuttlecraft nears the battle coordinates; we demand to know its purpose.=^= The newly-promoted commander crossed his gauntleted arms across his chest and assumed an authoritative posture.
Clasping his hands together on his lap Savot assumed as casual a posture as vulcans ever do when on-duty, and replied with... if not a completely honest report, one that contained absolutely no inaccurate statements, =^=Of course, Commander. As you know we've been monitoring your battle with the Hirogen via probe. Approximately 54.7 minutes ago it drifted into the atmosphere of one of the system's planets and impacted on the surface for as-yet-unknown reasons. In accordance with declarations of the Federation Charter and 4 separate sub-paragraphs of the Non-Interference Directive as it applies to currently barren but potentially habitable planets, we are required to retrieve any surviving components of the probe so as to avoid possible contamination of the natural evolution of any species that may one day evolve on this planet or one in close proximity.=^=
When just the right mix of boredom and irritation appeared in the Klingon's countenance, Savot abruptly switched gears, =^=However, while I can offer my personal assurance as captain of this vessel that our shuttle means you no harm, if its presence causes you alarm I can recall it and postpone the retrieval until the completion of your battle. Indeed, at that time we could also offer our assistance to yourselves and the Hirogen in retrieving any debris of your own that is drawn into any planet's gravity well.=^=
Savot had thus far in his lifetime had very little personal interest in human games like poker, beyond the mathematical curiosity of the card pairings, and as such did not believe in the 'bluff' as a suitable tactical strategy. However, under the current circumstances he felt reasonably confident of the outcome for a number of reasons. Firstly, and though he personally regretted the loss of life it was nonetheless helpful in this case, the newly elevated Klingon commander would need to solidify his position with the rest of the crew with evidence of his bravery, and on its best day the Mini-Sal would not give too terribly much pause to the equivalent of 2.5 combat effective Birds of Prey, particularly if the Hirogen decided to join the fight against them. This tactic would have been effective with any Klingon commander, but one just elevated during battle would be in particular need of chances to strengthen his hold on the crew's admiration and loyalty.
Secondly, Savot's offer to help retrieve any Klingon debris that might need it was statistically probable to send the Commander backpedalling away from that scenario. Though the Klingons and the Federation had now long been allies, one was never truly comfortable with another 'power' recovering one's equipment, especially a culture like the Klingons to whom charred hull fragments were akin to battle trophies to mount over the mantle at home.
Fortunately for the crew of the El Salvador, the attempt appeared to be successfully as the Klingon's face again experienced a mix of irritation and anger that slowly mutated into a forced smile, =^=Of course, Captain. We do not doubt the intentions of our Federation allies, I merely wish to avoid having the deaths of Starfleet officers on my conscience should they drift heedlessly into the field of fire.=^=
Bowing his head this time in a minor gesture of capitulation, Savot concluded the exchange, =^=Concern worthy of a warrior, commander. We shall endeavour to keep your conscience clear. Qapla'.=^= The viewscreen reverted to a tactical representation of the battlefield, still made possible after the probe's 'crash' by the Mini-Sal's sensors. The Klingons indeed seemed to be otherwise occupied as the two remaining fully-functional Birds of Prey approached from either side the Hirogen cruiser that appeared to be adrift and disabled. Savot surmised that this was at least partially a ruse on the part of the Hirogen to lure the Klingons into boarding their vessel so the 'hunt' could begin on a more personal level, an outcome he felt neither of the combatting species would mind.

Immediately upon turning his chair counter-clockwise from the viewscreen he came face to face with a female officer with a padd extended. Accepting the padd to skim over it before addressing the officer he had little need to read the contents as the situation was rapidly explained to him, “Captain… Commander Jackson has ordered me to give you a psych evaluation.. as you can see she has left orders for you to comply.. pursuant to Starfleet Protocols regarding psychological evaluations they are compulsory and the person getting the evaluation is not required to be warned prior to the evaluation.”
In the half-second it took his brain to interpret her statement and based upon it deduce her identity she'd once again beaten him to the proverbial punch, "Your ready room will be fine sir." She was well-mannered enough to let him enter the room first, but followed just behind with another guest on her coat-tails.
The small form darted in and under the desk while Savot's back was still to the door so he failed to notice the extra presence until casting his eyes downward slightly while configuring his desk computer to display a real-time tactical image of the area in question so he could keep an eye on the away team during his inquisit... evaluation. Beginning to slide his chair closer to his desk he spotted the small form underneath, at the same time that the Lieutenant posed her first question, "So Captain…according to past mission reports you have been injured on a high number of occasions do you believe that has had a negative impact on your mental well being?”
Glancing up at the woman with a slight nod acknowledging that he had in fact heard her, he extended a hand in a gesture of apology, "One moment please, Lieutenant Bars, I seem to have a situation at present."
Looking at the young girl under his desk, the time it took him to determine exactly how to address the scenario gave her a chance to speak first, "Don't tell them I'm here," she whispered, "my sister's looking but if she doesn't find me, I'll win the game." She shrank back even further under the desk when the Vulcan's features didn't change, at all. She could feel his dark eyes upon her, boring into her and she shivered. "Don't eat me...."
At this statement, he could not help but arch his eyebrows in mild surprise, but they quickly resumed their normal latitude as he slid his chair back slowly and extended a hand beside his chair in a gesture for her to feel free to come out safely, "Rest assured I will not you miss; I not only protest the practice of cannibalism, I am also a vegettarian with the exception of diplomatic functions in which case respect necessitates the consumption of meat."
Before becomming First Officer, he'd been getting fairly proficient at determining when he was being... 'too' vulcan, in that he was giving more of an explanation than was actually necessary in the given situation. The more formal demands of command had set him back in that proficiency a bit, but the presence of the child seemed to remind him of it.
"Don't tell mommy," she finally pleaded, though she didn't emerge from under the desk, "please?"
He gently extended a hand to help the girl stand up and looked back toward the Counselor across the desk, "Pardon the interruption, Ms. Bars. This is Miss...", he trailed off as he extended a hand towards the girl for her to insert her name hopefully if she felt comfortable enough to do so, and used the interrum moments to compose exactly what he was going to say, continuing after the girl had had the chance to speak, "a recently appointed... freelance counter-insurgency consultant. One of our previous captains was assassinated in this very room and as such I feel it prudent to know the likelihood of a hostile boarder reaching the commanding officer in what are, ideally, secure locations."
He glanced back to the girl, then back to Bars, and said entirely straight-faced, "Clearly our security protocols are in need of review." Seeing a commbadge upon the girl's clothes to identify her location to any worried family that queried the computer, Savot saw no harm in letting her remain, "Thank you, Miss. If you'd like you may wait out the search patrols over on the couch until the appropriate time to report your success in eluding them."
With a polite nod to the young lady, Savot returned his attention to the Counselor and replied without missing a beat, "As a Starfleet officer I am fully prepared for the possibility of injury in the line of duty, I am confident I have thus far gained a measure of caution from each experience without overcompensating towards hesitation or inaction."
((Tag Bars and/or Yarna, *chuckles* very interesting both of you btw, but also sincere congrats to everyone for the recent activity. I'm very pleased with both frequency and content, great work. Apologies for my delay I had an unexpected funeral today that I had to prepare for, but now I should be able to do my part to continue the momentum. Here's to the El Salvador))

Counsellor Bars frowned in confusion as Captain Savot peered under his desk and said to her. "One moment please, Lieutenant Bars, I seem to have a situation at present."
She heard the whisper from under the desk and watched Captain Savot with interest.
"Don't eat me...."
Simone heard the young voice say and she had to bite her lip to stop herself from laughing this got harder for her when Savot said.
"Rest assured I will not you miss; I not only protest the practice of cannibalism, I am also a vegettarian with the exception of diplomatic functions in which case respect necessitates the consumption of meat."
Simone had to breath deeply to assure she didn’t break into laughter the situation was comical and the chances of the young child under the desk understanding his explanation was slim at best.
"Pardon the interruption, Ms. Bars. This is Miss...",
Captain Savot said in an even steady voice. Simone nodded and looked to the young child and smiled a wide smile.

"As a Starfleet officer I am fully prepared for the possibility of injury in the line of duty, I am confident I have thus far gained a measure of caution from each experience without overcompensating towards hesitation or inaction." Savot said as he looked back to Simone
Simone nodded and looked back to the captain and smiled widely at him.
“Captain how do you think you manage being one of the few Vulcan’s on a Starship crewed with species rich with emotion?”
<Tag Savot>
Simone nodded as she smiled and wrote notes on her PADD that she had on her lap.
“Ok Captain, I am going to need you to give me five words that you think describe you best and why.”

Stacey looked around Commander Hope and some of her science officers had gone to explore their surroundings and take some readings. Stacey looked to the remaining security personnel and Roberts and Wolf, she noticed some of them taking unusual amount of pleasure holding their guns and smirked. ~ young men and their guns ~ thought she had never understood that concept but was glad they had them. Nobody had said anything for a few minutes and Stacey was grateful for the opportunity to catch her breath and have a drink. That was until a voice of a security officer yelled out. “Someone should take a look at this.” The voice came from about twenty metres to the right of Stacey, Stacey began to head in the direction of the young mans voice and heard some others following her closely. Stacey smile dropped and was replaced with an emotionless face she saw the young security officer kneeling besides a corpse that had been there for at least twenty years. “I was securing the area when I tripped on it.” The remains were nothing more than a skeleton in tattered clothes it was mostly covered in dirt and dead leaves, from the shoulders down but something underneath the dirt caught Stacey’s eyes it was metal. Stacey knelt down and brushed away the dirt and leaves before letting out a sigh at the sight, she picked it up and held it in the palm of her hand. A StarFleet commbadge that had been there for decades now. Stacey turned to see Robert’s and Wolf behind her looking with interest she stood up and held out the commbadge. “Most likely been here since the Dominion war, could have been a prisoner… I didn’t see any mention of combat history on this planets surface in the computer database’s information on this planet.” Stacey closed her fingers around the long inactive comm.badge before turning to the security office and saying. “Cover him back up.” She looked back at Wolf and Robert’s and said. “He was probably captured and used here to mine dilituim some time ago... But that leaves the question of why there are Breen still here?” <Tag> (Sorry for the double post, but it made it easier to write )

Running to where he heard the call he arrived in time to see what everybody was looking at a body when Commander Jackson picked up a federation combadge his heart sank a little. This was not a place for the honor dead. His emotions started whirling and he had to keep them in check.
If the Breen were responsable then they would pay his thoughts were clear nobody deserved to be treated as a slave. When Commander Jackson order the remains to be covered he interupted. "Belay that I want a DNA scan first his family have a right to know what happened. If I can give peice of mind to one family then I'll take it, I also want the spot marked we will do everything possible to recover the body and take it home. This is not how the fallen should be treated to offen we leave them behind. After your done the cover the body remember they served with honor make sure you treat there remains the same way"
" Commander Jackson can I have a word for a moment" Pausing " I'm sorry I didn't mean to over rule you in front of everybody, its just I have seen to much death and to many people left behind. If we can make a differnce in just one then I want us to try, they deserve that again I'm sorry" <Tag Jackson>
Looking at the rest of the group he collected his thoughts he drifted for a moment back to his past mission if people who had fallen and were left behind. Coming back to himself he decided it was time to change things
" Commander Hope recall your team there will be no more scounting, with a dead body and still a unknown out there the risk is to great. I'm sorry but that is final I will not risk your team or my security detail until there is no other away" <Tag Hope>
Looking back at everybody else " Roberts I want all weapons set for maxium stun if that doesn't work you know what to do. Everybody else we are moving forward same plan as last time I want the science team in the middle Commander Jackson will give distance and direction I want extrem caution we still dont know what we are dealing with"
Looking back at commander Jackson " once we get close to what ever it is I want you with me if this is a weapon we are looking at then we will figure out what its purpose is Meaning is somebody plan on using it if so then we will take it out. I'm not into trying to recover it you and I both know what some of the federation higher ups will try and do with it. I want it out of commision I will deal with any after math when we return to the ship."
" I'm telling you this Commander Jackson because I know for a fact with out question, that if we recover a working breen weapon. That sombody at star fleet intelligence will want to study it make it better and put it into are weapson program. A lot of people are bitter because of the war and won't let go. We both know that emotion and feelings dont understand reason at times. I will not be responsable for any more deaths that body we just found should know that there death was not invain. Readyroom
Yarna took the offered hand, understanding that she couldn't remain under the desk indefinitely. She was surprised the hand felt relatively warm to the touch, but let it go anyway. She had this uncanny feeling the man didn't really like to be touched. "I'm Yarna," she filled in as the man's voice trailed off. "Yarna Hope. My mom's the chief science officer and my dad works in sickbay," she added with a hint of pride.
His words didn't really make much sense to her. What on earth was a vegetarian? The five-year old had no idea. However, she obediently moved to the couch and sat on it, her little hands folded in her lap once she tucked her long blonde hair back behind her pointed ears.
“I think the nice Captain means you can wait on the couch until you win the game of hide and seek.”
"I understood ma'am," Yarna replied boldly, cringing at the woman's voice. She bowed slightly to Savot. "Thank you captain, I won't be in your way, I promise." Then she smiled as an idea occurred to her. "Perhaps you'd like to join us in the next round?"
Down planet
S'reena immediately recalled her team, but she gained no response from Meadows and Forbes. Mark Edison caught her worried expression and walked up to her, lightly touching her arm after extending his mind to her so she wouldn't be startled. The golden creature on her shoulder chirped as he approached, then took wing once more.
The Betazoid caught a few images from the creature, but not enough to comprehend what it's young mind meant. "They'll be fine," he tried to reassure his chief.
The Romulan nodded. "Meadows is an experienced field officer as is Forbes. They wouldn't run headlong into trouble, I'm sure they know better than that."
Edison chuckled. "Quite right," he answered merrily, "then again, when a scientist catches the scent of a solution to a problem....surely you were like that once?"
"Before I became a teacher, aye," she replied with a slight smile. Then she turned to Roberts. "Two of my team aren't responding.."
Just then, the stricken voice of Matt Forbes cut through the disturbance. "...mergency! I rep...medical... emergency!..ows has...urt"
S'reena turned, visibly alarmed. "Meadows is hurt!" she called, "Roberts can you get a fix on them? Transport them back to the Mini-Sal. Now! Wolf, that body, how was he killed?" Instinct to lead immediately took over, and she didn't care that she was possibly stepping on Wolf's toes by doing so. If she did, she'd hear about it later and bear the consequences.
Edison took her by the arm and directed her to the shuttlecraft. "Mini-Sal to El-Salvador. Captain we've run into trouble. While exploring one of the science officers got hurt. We've also discovered a body that has been here for at least two decades. We're running examinations, and we're acting with caution. We are, however going to proceed to the Breen camp by nightfall."
It was, after all, what they had come here to do. To see what the Breen were up to. This was no mere camping trip, and S'reena understood that like no other. She 'looked' up, when she heard a soft footfall behind her. "What's on your mind counselor?" she asked, without turning around.
Beside her, Mark Edison was feeding their collected data to the shuttle's computer for further analysis. "I'll go outside," he told his chief, "and see what the rest are up to." He turned and stepped out of the shuttle. "Any luck finding them?" he asked softly, as he approached Wolf and Roberts.
