With a quick check of the team on the planet he grabbed some gear he found in Col. Wolf office then again it was his office for now he admired the col thinking. There were alot of things to choose from packed in neat little kits labeled for possible encounters. He grabbed the bag listed as extreme protection and headed to the transport room. He just missed the team being down and would make a mental note to talk to them about that. Protection was limited right now and they jumped the gun. Although he understood the need there captain was in trouble.
Looking at the transport chief who was caught off guard for amoment. " Chief beam me down to where the team went. Get me as close as you can and then contact the bridge and let them know whats going on okay"
He felt the transporter grab him a moment later he was on the planet he already see the team hard at work. He noticed Commander Hope working with her scans trying to peace together past events.
" I trust Commander that you will let me know what you find. I will draw back and stay out of your way for the moment." he waited to see if Commander Hope reconginzed who was talking with a big smile on his face<Tag Hope>

Nearly 3 hours passed as the list of questions was exhausted, and then the same questions were asked again in different words, until eventually the interrogators were exasperated with their own lack of progress and the vulcan probably would have been too if he was normally subject to that state of mind. Regardless of how often the same question was asked though, Savot continued to answer in a respectful to-the-point manner. Finally, he felt compelled to speak. "Gentlemen, I understand your frustration as we are in the same position on different sides of the scenario. You would much prefer a larger amount of solid evidence connecting me or my organization to the attack, while I would certainly prefer more of the same clearing us of any involvement. I am content to continue answering your questions to the best of my ability should you wish to continue, but I assure you I will not attempt to extricate myself before my innocence is concretely proven, so you may apply yourselves to the physical investigation and return to question me as new data becomes relevant", the vulcan finished and he was slightly surprised when they seemed to concur with his suggestion without taking offense or assuming he was simply trying to get out of answering their questions. Savot was then led to a cell, akin in design to that of 21st century earth where their concrete equivalent formed the majority of the casing while the entrance was held by alloyed bars in a criss-crossed pattern. After receiving a quick glass of water Savot was left, locked in but not guarded by any additional personnel outside his cell. He presumed either the investigation in particular was drawing heavily on the East's manpower resource or their force in general was depleted from their conflict with the West. To pass the time he conducted tests... necessarily rudimentary given his lack of equipment... on the alloy of the cell bars and determined from their general compressed porosity and the aural vibrations created by an impacting knuckle that they were probably comprised of some neutronium derivative. The evening came, though Savot could not tell due to the lack of any window in his cell. A non-vulcan would probably say it seemed impossible they'd only arrived in the system hours beforehand, and while Savot's inner sense of time prevented such a statement on his part... he would have understood the general motivation behind it. His feet were shackled, but not to the floor this time so he could make use of the lavatory when necessary, and his hands were cuffed in front of him now. Sitting on the bed that served dual-purpose as a sitting bench during waking hours, Savot clasped his hands before his closed eyes and sought the tranquility of meditation. Some captains would have felt uneasy or compelled to take some action to help their crew, and while Savot most definitely held his crew as a paramount priority he could focus himself on the knowledge that not only were they more than capable of addressing the situation at hand, but he was already pursuing the best course he could postulate to fix the problem. A human saying he'd once heard came to the surface of his thoughts, 'It's much easier to stay out of trouble than it is to get out of trouble'. Before his mind could fully formulate what was happening, muscular instincts honed over decades sprung to action against the barely perceived sounds of footfalls and what turned out to be the arming of a primitive crossbow-esque weapon. Leaning further towards the wall would have limited his movement thereafter, so Savot put his left shoulder forward letting gravity pull him off the bed/bench towards the floor while his cuffed hands moved to protect his head and neck. The tiniest of sparks off of his cuffs told the vulcan they'd just deflected some sort of dart or bolt, but that was merely catalogued for later analysis as his plunge off the bench continued into a left-shouldered roll to end with him crouched near the center of the cell. It appeared the vulcan captain was not the only one surprised; however. The attacker, clothed in form-fitting black with a forearm attachment of some kind whose sides had extended to form the crossbow in question, upon seeing his target's face immediately pulled his arm upwards and the weapon's sides retracted back into the device. Savot raised an eyebrow at the unexpected behavior, but raised both when the hooded figure removed the mask he'd been wearing. The face looking back at him was his own... (Nobody worry about this little side-development; will not effect the flow of this mission in any way, just needed to introduce some things for a story-idea I've got in mind for the distant future )

Lieutenant James Fire stepped out of the shuttle carrying some more materials in hopes that he would be able to use hopefully to construct his signal beacon. On his way back, however he heard a noise in the distance and would turn to look towards the source of the noise. Only in time to see a creature running headlong into Ensign Hernandez, "Ensign." He would call out as he dropped his items and went into a full run scooping up the phaser that had been flung when the beast tackled the ensign to the ground. He would activate it and fire twice striking the creature across it's left thigh and head beforing felling the great beast.
He grimaced as he looked down upon the torn body that was barely alive, but he did manage to kill the predator, perhaps a tad bit too late. He would drop to his knees drawing out the tricorder and running it over Ernie's body, "Ensign you'll be just fine." He would say finding that he was in fact losing blood quickly and would probably bleed out. He worked hard ripping his uniform to pieces trying to tie off as many places as he could.
"Sir..don't....worry about....it's....." He tried to breathe, but found that it was difficult as if his lungs had been pushed out of his mouth he coughed hard feeling hot blood fall out of his mouth. "Sir....good..." He barely got the last word out and found that he had no more room to speak as slowly everything around him went black..
James watched the tricorder as his readouts started showing a flatline. "Dammit..." He muttered under his breath he would proceed to drag the body to the side of the shuttle and cover it laying a commbadge on it and shaking his head as he done the deed. He would make a point to have his body recovered. He stepped inside the tricorder and his phaser in hand as he stepped across the threshold he would lock the hatch and drop them carefully to the ground...
-=Seven Years Ago=-
Ensign James Fire looked at his friend Marcus Riley they had just freshly graduated the academy although both of them wore a differenc color one in yellow the other in red. James smiled seeing their pips had fit nicely upon their collars. He smiled to his friend, "Now don't forget our deal, if the other dies.."
Marcus nodded, "Yes mate I know if one of us dies we shall take their position within Starfleet." He laughed lightly, "Now lets get to the lounge and have a couple drinks." He replied back as they walked out of their dorm rooms and down the passageway.
James nodded and followed his friend, Marcus had been assigned to the shipyards and himself assigned to the El'Salvador where they would have to both keep in contact via communication channels whenever they had the chance too...
-=Present=-
Belanna woke up to see James walk through alone she tried to sit up but found that she was still in pain with two broken legs and a shattered ankle. She grimaced for a second before she would begin to speak, "What's wrong sir, where's Ensign Hernandez?" She asked although she already knew something was horribly wrong by looking at his face.
James shook his head sitting down across from her, "Ensign Hernandez was...killed we were attacked by some wild predator he didn't make it." He would say, that was number three out of the six of them now only three were alive. And, nobody was certain if Ensign Marcus would even survive the deal with the crash. "I have the parts I need at the cost of another great flight officer. I will begin assembling our beacon later I can't think right now."
She nodded, "It'll be alright James they'll find us soon, don't worry about the signal beacon just yet." She smiled raising her hand and pushing a lock of his hair away from his face and gently carressing it, but just for a second. She would continue to watch him hoping that he would be okay she didn't know what had happened on Earth, but he seemed changed.
He would touch her hand and return the smile, "I know they will Belanna." He replied generously he lifted the phaser, "We will have to use the powercell from the phaser in order to power the signal beacon hopefully I can modify it so that it'll work." He would reply as he sat back against the bulkhead to the shuttle he was worn out and it still would take a while to construct the signal beacon and get it powered. Hopefully it wouldn't take them too long they had a limited amount of supplies between the three of them. He looked at her for another moment, "Belanna...I want to let you know..How I feel.."
She raised a brow, "James before you continue I already know..I figured it out a long time ago and I know you've had time to think it through. I feel the same." She looked at him her eyes seeming to shimmer slightly as the sun outside slowly set along the horizon.
He watched her listening to her words, he knew that to somehow he always knew that. He nodded slowly watching the glow from the sun as it fell behind the planet's surface. "I know Belanna somehow..." He slid closer to her and would softly stroke her forhead and down her ridged nose. He slowly removed his hand, "Close your eyes, you need your rest." He would reply watching her as slowly her eyes would close.
With that he would slide back over to the parts and the phaser and slowly begin constructing the signal beacon routing the optical cable across the shuttle and towards the burnt out panel and running it below the panel attaching it to the shuttle's beacon so they could use the distress signal in order to be located...
Eventually he would fall asleep leaning against the bulkhead his body seeming slightly worn out..

Stacey sat on the bridge feeling more than a little useless as the crew continued with their tasks… it was not long before someone spoke up and made Stacey’s day just that little bit worse.
“Commander… we have lost the three shuttles from sensors.. it seemed they entered a pocket of high radiation… we lost them on sensors… I have been trying to hail them but there is no response.”
She raised her eyebrows in both annoyance and surprise… in her mind she thought. ‘Of course we have’
She stood up and raised a hand to her mouth as she quickly thought things over… Now she would give anything for her to be the facing charges of Assassination and Savot to be up here dealing with it. She looked back towards the back of the bridge and said. “Continue scanning for the shuttles and our people.. but don’t pull people off of Commander Hopes team… let them concentrate on the investigation.”
She let out a breath as she stared at the view screen trying to figure out if she was doing things the right way or making it worse.
**Bomb Site**
Doctor Sterg Mytast watched the Federation crew as they went about their scans, he had never seen the species that wore the uniform before and he wa more than a little concerned about the big one with the ridges on the forehead. But he felt he needed to speak to them if only out of fairness.
Walking up to whom he assumed was in charge the female with the pointed ears he said. “I am Doctor Mytast… lead investigator for the Democracy…. I don’t think your investigation will be of any use… Your captain’s fate has already been decided… my superiors are unwilling to listen to anything that casts doubt on his guilt…. Because… “
His sentence was stopped by a hand slapping down on his shoulder the voice that accompanied it was deep and foreboding “You were warned Doctor…you conspiracy stories should be kept to yourself… don’t waste these peoples time.”
The Doctor hung his head low as he scurried off. The man who scared him away turned to Commander Hope and said. “Good Evening I am General Mi’Ger I was sent by the President to help in you investigation…do you require anything.”

S'reena sat cross-legged on the floor, debris scattered around her, a large fragment of it in her hands. She turned it over and over, frowning in concentration as she listened as to what the tricorder was telling her. Something was very odd about it. The signature was Federation all right, but there was something odd about it. There was a secondary, and even a tertiary...no wait... S'reena's frown increased, a scowl appearing on her face. Finally she tossed the fragment aside in frustration.
"This just can't be happening," she growled, "this is so frustrating!" She rose to her feet in a reasonably fluid motion, snapping her tricorder shut.
" I trust Commander that you will let me know what you find. I will draw back and stay out of your way for the moment."
The Romulan whirled around at the sound of the voice, which sounded familiar. She should recognise the rich timbre to the voice, which sounded annoyingly amused, as always. She cocked her head, listening, before a smile spread across her face. "K'ratak?" she queried, "is that really you? What brings you to this neck of the woods?" She waved him over, almost impatiently. "Actually, I may need a sighted person for this. Tricorder's acting a little funny due to the radiation, perhaps you can tell me what you see on the display. The debris are of Federation origin, can you confirm? And what about the additional readings, do they read for you as well? Twice I got the readings, and about equal times I didn't."
She fell silent as she heard someone approach, tilting her face up to listen while placing her hand on K'ratak's arm.
S'reena was about to respond when a second person seemed to join them. Frowning, she again listened, her suspicions increasing.
The Doctor hung his head low as he scurried off. The man who scared him away turned to Commander Hope and said. “Good Evening I am General Mi’Ger I was sent by the President to help in you investigation…do you require anything.”
"I am Commander S'reena Hope and this is ..." She realised she didn't know whether K'ratak had joined her in any official fashion, as part of the crew or otherwise. "..my friend K'ratak," she finished, hoping her hesitation wasn't too obvious. "I would like to talk to the doctor you just sent away. Theory or no, I am here to explore any and all possibilities, and his theory is of interest to me. Other than that, I'll be sure to let you know if I have need of you. I also require a meeting with both Democrat and Royal investigators, I wish to hear their theories, and share some of my own with them. I was guaranteed co-operation from both sides, and I have guaranteed mine. If you could arrange this much, I would be very pleased, indeed."
She dismissed the man, as if he were a mere junior officer, turning back to K'ratak. "Find that doctor," she whispered to him, "keep him safe for me."

He smiled when S'reena acknowledge him by name she was one of the few Romulans he liked and trusted then again he didn't trust to many people no matter there race. Unlike most klingons his star fleet training helped him escape the normal hatered of a whole race of people.
" Its good to see you Commander its been to long as he let a little chuckle. Time enough to catch up later lets see what you are coming up with on your scans."
He looked at her results and she was right the readings were very odd. Every time she confirmed the orgin she had a scan saying they weren't odd part was when the scan showed they weren't Federation orgin it was by much. He study if for a moment and double checked the scans again to see if he had an idea.
" You know Commander its a little odd when you confirm the scan its exact I mean text book. When it say's its not its only by 3.4 of a percent thats its not. Funny thing is when have you ever taken a scan of federtation weapon and the results be text book I mean to the minimum level to say its our's in all my time I have never seen the text book minimum reading if you scan our own weapons they are with in the rage of federation standards but not text book. I"m just guessing but it appears somebody its going through a lot of trouble to make this look like federtaion equipment and got it right but not perfect. As to how and why well I'll leave the how to you and together we will figure out he why"
He noticed a person walking towards them and stood up and slightly behind Commander Hope. He listened to what they were saying but noticed a guard heading there way and was telling the doctor to shut up with his idea's this seemed to anger Hope which made his smile a little poor gaurd has no idea what he's in for he thought to himself. He stood tall as the commander started talking he noticed she had no idea why he was there yet but she was letting the guard have it. He placed his hand on this phaser and made sure the guard noticed any action would be dealt with.
at the conclusion he heard Commander Hope order to follow the doctor. Walking in front of Commander Hope " I will obey your orders Commander please contact me in 10 mins I will let you know there location and if there being followed by more then me. Oh by the way Commander It's Lt Colonel I'm your new senior Marine officer Mr. Wolf has been given his own Command of the Nevada. I need to go oh you still owe me a bottle of prune juice Commander I do intend to collect with a slight chuckle"
He turned and followed the Doctor he stayed futher back then he wanted to but he needed to see who esle would have a interst in the doctor. He notice a nother guard following the doctor trying to not get noticed. He realized he might have to distract the guard when they got to where they were going so Commander Hope could have her talk with the doctor.

The twin vulcans stood motionless taking each other in for several moments before the outsider broke the silence, "You're not Rigellian."
Savot rose to his feet within his cell, glancing at the underside of his hand shackles where a small amount of thin purplish liquid stained the metal, "Clearly, though I expect Vulcan and Rigellian physiologies are sufficiently similar for this toxin to have the same effect on me." The captain looked to the floor where the deflected dart had finally landed, then knelt to retrieve and inspect the projectile, "Quite well-designed; limited forward surface area to maximize its aerodynamic quality and further its range while maintaining accuracy."
As though swapping recipes, the mirror image nodded slightly, accepting the dart as Savot handed it back to him through the bars. As the attacker secured the dart in his forearm weapon, he looked the Starfleet captain up and down a moment, "So you do exist... A number of Terrans I encountered in my travels said they'd seen me enslaved on an Imperial warship, and obviously I knew it hadn't been me but until now I had assumed the mistaken identity was due to terrans' inability to distinguish alien characteristics between one member of a species and another. Fascinating to discover that I do indeed have a duplicate in this universe. And serving the benevolent counterpart to the Empire no less; I believe you call it the Federation?"
Savot had moved a pace back from the bars of his cell, letting his hands hang in front of him at waist height as he listened to the other Savot speak. He recalled the 7 years he'd been trapped in the Mirror Universe before being rescued by the El Salvador A, but he had never bothered to consider if a version of himself existed in that alternate place... and now there was no longer need to ponder the question since the answer stood before his eyes. However, despite the fact that it was in a sense himself he was staring at, the captain was no more 'shocked' by the situation than he would have been by any equally improbable event.
He nodded at the attacker's conclusion, "Your information is accurate, I serve in Starfleet. Your vocation is... bounty hunter?"
"Assassin", the double said with no change in his tone. Captain Savot narrowed his eyes slightly at this news but didn't interrupt as his counterpart continued, "A Rigellian from my universe has fled here to escape death. He had been organizing a resistance movement against one of the Klingon factions and as such they desired him removed. None of their personnel; however, were comfortable with the prospect of transcending alternate planes of existence to pursue him and as such my services were purchased. I tracked his vessel's signature to this system and concluded he might have taken refuge on this planet, a conclusion I thought confirmed when I picked up local transmissions detailing the capture of a male fitting your description and as Rigellians and Vulcans share many physical characteristics my error is understandable."
"I cannot permit you to murder another lifeform, regardless of its origin", Captain Savot replied.
The Mirror was undaunted; however, and the corners of his mouth almost seemed to turn upward as he replied, "But as this is not yet the territory of your Federation your jurisdiction is limited. Not to mention the difficulty you would face in attempting to apprehend me from your current accomodations."
"This situation will not be indefinite, and I will have to file a report on our encounter here upon returning to my vessel", Captain Savot countered.
The assassin Savot seemed to enjoy the verbal/philosophical sparring match, though his face still carried the neutral tone... but colder than the Captain's usually looked, "By which time I estimate a 96.1% probability I will already have achieved my objective and returned home, at which point I will pose no further bother to your enlightened sensibilities. "
The captain inclined his chin slightly, "You'll forgive me if I find the word of a killer insufficient to trust that your presence intends no harm to this universe."
Mirror Savot showed no reaction to the unpleasant title applied by the Starfleet captain, "There is of course a way to assuage your concerns with concrete evidence, though no doubt you would find it distasteful to pursue." The double of course referred to a vulcan mind meld in which Savot could see the truth of the killer's story for himself.
Savot stood perfectly still, eyes locked with those of his duplicate as he considered the prospect. It wasn't the thought of merging minds with a being that was in some ways himself that bothered him, nor merging with a murderer that gave him pause. However, mind melding with a version of himself that had willingly pursued the life of an assassin was most disquieting to postulate...
Finally though, his duty to pursue the truth and ensure his double meant no harm to this universe or its residents took priority and Savot dipped his head slightly in agreement at which point the black-clad double moved closer to the bars so Savot's shackled hands would be able to initiate the meld. Placing his right fingers on his Mirror's katra points... the Captain began the unsettling experience, "My mind, to your mind..."

Lieutenant James Fire had remained asleep for quite sometime when something disturbed him in his sleep. He slowly opened his eyes twitching ever so slightly thinking that perhaps he had heard a noise. But, that was not the case he looked around the darkened shuttle to see that Ensign Marcus was still breathing which in the situation they were in that was a good thing. His eyes then proceeded to fixate upon Belanna and a smile coursed his features ever so slightly. With that he would slowly and once more dwelve deeply into the world that he'd thought that perhaps he'd forgotten...
===============================================
-=Past (Time Unknown)=-
James Fire looked carefully over his assignments trying hard to focus on the task at hand. And, yet all he could think about was all the what if's. He knew that in fact he was going to be joining Starfleet, and yet all he could consider and hope for was that it was him and not Marcus who would go first. He sighed heavily their jobs were both dangerous being an engineer there were millions of ways one could be killed. Same with flying a starship or shuttle. James was perhaps the best starfighter pilot by rating in his class so that did little to sway him. But, everybody makes mistakes. Even those who you would least expect it, but he hoped that they would be stationed to the same place so that they could watch out for eachother...
-=Three Months Ago=-
James Fire stood in the sickbay on Earth he had of course been there while Commander Stacey Jackson was there seeing her son who had been hurt. When an officer approached him.
"Are you Lieutenant Junior Grade James Fire by any chance."
James turned and looked at the female Lieutenant Commander and smiled brightly, "Yes ma'am I am may I help you in anyway?
"Well first I would like to congratulate you, you're being promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. But, I have some news that you need to hear. There was an accident I regret to inform you that your friend Lieutenant Marcus Riley has been killed. His mother requested that you be contacted you're relieved of duty pending his funeral take a couple months off Mister Fire."
James was taken aback he didn't expect this kind of news the promotion was nice and all, but his best friend since he was old enough to walk and talk had his life taken from him so early in life. He watched as the Commander walked away after thanking her he shook his head the pip he held in his hand didn't make a difference anymore it was as if his breath had been taken from him by force. He was certain that Captain Savot had been made aware of this by Starfleet. And, after informing the female Commander's he would leave the hospital in order to take some time to think...
===============================================
Belanna had awoken to see James sort of twitching in his sleep and she sighed wishing that she could comfort him. Whatever it was that was bothering him seemed to be affecting his sleep pattern as well. They were indeed trapped here until he could get the signal beacon operational and it seemed as though he had started shortly after she had fallen asleep. She knew that something had to be bothering him from the moment he stepped onto the hanger bay deck. She sighed again lightly this time placing her hands on her stomach as she laid there watching him sleep restlessly and looked down upon her useless legs. Wishing that he would hopefully before they were back tell her what had been bothering him. She did in fact love him, and she knew that he loved her if only she could get him to open up just a little bit.
Belanna continued to watch him as the night dragged on she had slept on and off worried that something may happen to him and she felt bad that Ernie had gotten killed. She only hoped that the Ensign that slept on the other bench across from her was going to pull through now that they had one person to fend for them as she was pretty much stuck in one place with two set legs and a set ankle. And, the Ensign was laying there across from her fighting for his life until hopefully help would arrive, but she had faith that everything would be okay and that James would be there to protect that which remained of his people.

Howling in frustration, Firestorm made his path through the badly charred and deformed bodies of the locals that had been caught dead center of the explosion. As far as he could see, there were no more survivors here. One paw held over his nose in a vain attempt to staunch the smell of charred meat and decay, the Sivaoan used the other to hold a tricorder and scan left and right.
A soft whimpering caught his attention and he turned. Crawling from under one of the corpses came a child, which Firestorm guessed to be approximately twelve standard years old. The child's face was smeared with soot and blood, though he couldn't determine yet whether it was the child or someone else's. The feline did presume that the body which had shielded him, to most extend, had probably been one of his parents.
Kneeling, the giant cat beckoned the child. "Don't be afraid," he purred, holding out his paw, claws sheathed. "I won't hurt you."
Fearfully, the boy crawled up to him, eyes wide in terror, his body shaking. The clothes he had on him were badly burned and shredded. Firestorm sighed miserably; it was always the children that had the worst of it, it seemed. "Come, sit with me and I'll see if we can make the hurt go away," Firestorm encouraged, making soft purring sounds that did seem to calm the child. "What is your name?"
Sitting cross-legged before the tall cat, the boy gathered his courage. "Onyx," he whispered, hugging his arms to his chest. "Can you help my father?"
Obviously, the remains which he'd taken shelter under, or rather that had probably sheltered him, were that of his father. Firestorm let out a low hiss in anger, which seemed to frighten the boy even more. "I fear not," he said sadly, hunching closer to the boy. "I'm going to touch you now. If I hurt you, I want you to tell me, all right? I have no wish to hurt you, but it may happen by accident. I promise you'll be all right."
Onyx nodded, holding perfectly still as the furry alien examined him from head to toe. He winced occasionally but never spoke up. "There's a brave lad," the feline complimented him, then handed him a silver-golden object. "This will take you to my ship, so that the doctor can heal you further." The boy stared at it in confusion, then clung to the cat's leg. "I can't take you with me boy, please. I'll see you later in sickbay."
"I'll help," the boy promised, eyes pleading. Obviously, he was alone now, no-one to tend to him. "I know this place, I know the people."
"Very well. But I'll need my commander's permission for you to stay with me. It may not be safe." He tapped his combadge. "Firestorm to El-Salvador. I have discovered a surviving male child, approximately twelve years old. He's suffered second degree burns in the blast but is otherwise seemingly unharmed. I have offered transport to sickbay but he wishes to remain with me. To be honest commander, I do think he may be useful, as he is familiar with the area. I do have to point out that there may be a danger to the child, as he is, as said, just a child. Please advise?"

Entering his double's mind felt like walking into a house you'd owned for decades... whose every surface had been overtaken in your absence by a frigid sheen of ice. Many of the general katra flows were similar, but Mirror Savot's entire being worked under brutal, calculating, cold logic. Captain Savot followed the general vulcan path of logic too, of course, but over time he had come to see the value and sometimes the necessity of flexibility in the face of emotional context.
The assassin was also quite well trained in the mental disciplines for he was able to erect formidable walls around his psyche, effectively blocking Savot off from all pathways except those leading to the truth about the Rigellian target. Given that his interest lay solely in proving the Mirror had no foul intentions towards inhabitants of this universe, Savot was not inclined to attempt to force his way through the other blocks. Soon enough, the captain had 'arrived' at the thoughts in question and confirmed his twin's story.
Though by no means necessary for a mind meld to function, Savot usually manifested a visual form of himself within the mind to make interaction simpler for both parties. Unsurprisingly, the double's mental energies coalesced into a mental image as well a moment later. The captain appeared in his uniform while the double still 'wore' his infiltration garb. His image clasped its hands behind its back, and he turned to face the Mirror, "Your explanation was indeed truthful, but if I may make an additional inquiry... Why do these things?"
The Mirror's mental expression took on the visual tone of an impatient adult trying to explain something obvious to an ignorant child, "Because the pursuit of peace is illogical."
Captain Savot's brow furrowed in confusion, but the assassin continued speaking, "Allow me to phrase it another way: Suppose you achieve your goal, unite the entire cosmos in euphoric harmony and cooperation. What then? All life would eventually stagnant and fade into nothingness. It is suffering that inspires people to cure the symptoms; medicine is created because there are ailments, weapons are invented and soldiers trained because there are enemies to defend against. Remove these factors and you remove the need for us to grow as sentient lifeforms."
"And while that scenario in and of itself is detrimental enough, the fact lies that there simply is no statistical probability for ongoing peace. Universal peace requires the voluntary participation of all involved parties, and there will always be someone who chooses not to play along. They either refuse to cooperate outright, or promise to do so and wait until everyone else had laid down arms then strike while their victims are defenseless. Since regardless of how benevolent a given system is, there will always be those seeking to destroy it and as such the only logical path to take in life is acquiring skills that can destroy said system."
Captain Savot's image shook his head in melancholic wonder at his double, "The path you describe is equally if not more stagnant than the peace you would so easily dismiss. If betrayal is the status quo no one will seek to lift themselves out of it and pursue an honorable path, so while there will indeed be tangible advances in weaponry and medicine, the use of those advances will always be the same and I find that prospect a very empty existence."
Mirror Savot again assumed that almost amused expression as he replied, "I do not presume to convince you that my way is correct, I simply answered the question you posed. Now that you know I have no sinister motive against your universe I can leave without needing to concern myself with your possible pursuit while I complete my assignment here."
The vulcans began disengaging from the meld, but as they did so the Mirror noted an interesting piece of information. In order for a meld to work at all, both minds need to leave some aspects of themselves open. For the party actively seeking information from the recipient of the meld, their guard is even more lowered and as such Mirror Savot was able to sense the topmost thoughts and feelings of the captain. Having been reminded of the time he was trapped in the Mirror Universe, Captain Savot's thoughts had been of his father who'd died in an accident while he was held captive... And the Mirror noted these memories and the feelings associated with them.
The meld broken, each Savot took a step back from the cell bars, at which time the Mirror raised his hand in the vulcan salute, "Live long and prosper, Captain. Though unless your fortune improves rapidly I doubt you shall do either." The vulcan captain saw no appropriate response to make so he merely watched as the black-clad figure departed down the corridor presumably to return to his hunt.

Andrus watched his sneor reading -mhe had all systems ready. He glanced at the El-Slvador's armaments. they were ready. He ardently hoped they would not be needed.
Andrus watched the bridge - it felt funny without CAPT Savot present. He knew the others were competent otherwise they would not be here.
His mind wondered back to his academy days. He smiled in spite of himself.

Lieutenant James Fire had been awake before the sun had started to rise over the horizon for quite sometime trying to forget the dreams that had disturbed him greatly eventually they would return to the ship he would promise that much to them he didn't want to lose anybody else. First Riley his friend then most of the shuttle team he had lost so many in the past three months that he undoubtedly found it unbearable by considerable measures. James had already decided to put in his transfer request to be the engineering chief on board the El'Salvador as he wouldn't leave those that he'd begun to know so well. His thoughts continued to press themselves towards this desire as he continued to work on the sensor beacon he had decided also that he did in fact love Belanna though she was laying on the cot still sleeping. And, having spilled that fact out onto the table just for her made him feel slightly better. He knew that she wanted to speak about events leading up to his arrival back on board his old assignment.
:ieutenant James Fire continued to work diligantly hoping that eventually he could possibly get the beacon up and running quickly. Eventually he got the power cell from the phaser to operate within his power source connecting to the sensor beacon once this was complete he would attempt to power it up. It wouldn't take long and it would be at full power yet he could only assume that its signal would be partially lost due to interference in the area that had jammed them and caused their crash landing in the first place. Whatever remnants of the signal that managed to break free of the jam would only show that they were in fact within twenty meters of the location throwing sensor readings off slightly, but hopefully not enough not to be found.

Stacey Jackson paced the bridge time seemed to have slowed down to an almost unbearable speed, the crew silently went about their duties be it looking over the sensor readings from the explosion or looking for their now three missing shuttles.
Her patience and temper were waring thin and had she not been recently promoted to First Officer she would no doubt of had the luxury to allow herself to go down to the planet and at least feel like she was doing something, but she knew that the security officer and the new Marine commander would probably go insane if she decided to do that now.
***On the Planet***
The rather bulky military general stood to the side of the bombsite as he watched the federation officers run their scans and went about their business, he gave them a rather distasteful look whenever they peered in his direction.. he glanced around looking for the large one in the green uniform.. he got nervous when he didn’t see the Klingon with the rest of his crew so he decided to investigate.
He walked up to the Romulan woman he had been blown off earlier by and demanded. “Where is the Klingon officer… I hope for his sake he isn’t looking for the scientist from earlier.. we have strict rules against our scientist being threatened by your crew for a result that benefits your captain?”
He shifted nervously in his place his orders from the Deputy President were very clear he was to keep the local scientist away from the Federation.. he didn’t know why nor did he ask he merely did what he was told which was the way of things. His voice portrayed more urgency as he said. “Please contact you officer and tell him not to engage any of the scientists… my orders come from the highest level… failure of which will not be looked upon by my government well.”
He fiddled with his hands behind his back as he could imagine the consequences to him should his failure to keep an eye on the Federation people be reported back to his superiors… no more would he be safe back at the capital being an advisor and once again he could say hello to the prospect of being a front lines commander

***USS El Salvador***
Stacey still paced the bridge before she stopped herself and again sat down in the command chair.. not long after she at down she turned her head quickly as she heard a loud alarm beep from the science station. “What now?” she asked with a slight sign of trepidation in her voice.
The young man filling in for Commander Hope said. “Ma’am we are picking up a signal from the planet… I think it is from the missing shuttles I don’t know how but I think they managed to get a signal through the radiation.
Stacey stood up at last happy for some good news. “Prep the mini sal… go get them ensign.”

He had been following the his targets for 20 minutes and arrived at what he assumed was the individuals homes. It was funny following both neither knowing he was there but Commander Hope wanted to talk to him and that was good enough for him. He stood back in the shadows hiding him self from sight and tapped his combadge
" Commander Hope " not knowing if she was by her self but she was clever and would pick up on his meaning " Commander the other scientific gear you asked to get that was misplaced I have found it. Would you like me to leave her or arrange for it to come to you, also Commander there's some extra gear that we don't seem to need Commander. I'll await you orders on what to do with that"<Tag Hope>
He knew it was a gamble but they had worked together before and he knew she would figure out what he meant by the other person also following the scientist.

S'reena smiled. "Guard that which you have found colonel," she informed him, "whatever the extra baggage is, guard it well, we may need it too. I will contact you when I am ready to join you. Hope out."
She smiled sweetly at the Meran officer. "I do not know exactly where Colonel K'ratak is, my lord general," she answered him, listening as Auric chirped at her. "However I am interested to know why you won't let me talk to your esteemed scientist. Surely, if we worked together we might better determine who is truly at fault here? With my instruments barely functioning half of the time, he would be able to either confirm or deny my team's findings with practiced ease."
The Romulan reached up to stroke the golden lizard's back and eyeridges, causing the creature to croon in delight. "Auric, find K'ratak for me, and stay with him." The familiar chirped questioningly. "I am perfectly safe here, am I not my lord general? You will, no doubt, make sure no harm comes to me?" Her smile widened a little, almost coquettishly as she regarded him. "I am, after all, but a blind woman."
She turned when Ian called to her. "S'reena! I have found something perculiar."
The Romulan held up her arm. "Excort me, if you would please, my lord general." She felt his hand touch hers, and she noted the temperature and texture of his skin. It felt rough, like that of a man who had known hardships but it also was clammy and cold, as though he was nervous. Filing that bit of information away, she allowed the military man to escort her to Ian's location. Kneeling, she held the tricorder Ian handed her over where he led her hand to. She listened as the audio set rendered the data into speech. "How long did it take you to find this?" she queried, arching both eyebrows in surprise. "More importantly, how did you find this?"
Ian frowned. "Someone up on the El-Salvador did a deep molecular scan on some of the fragments of the explosive," he explained, "and the woman told me what to look for. Why?"
"This is Ultritium*," S'reena explained. "A powerful chemical explosive. Oh yes, the Federation knows how to manufacture it, but doesn't use it for something like this. The Federation doesn't resort to weapons of mass destruction. However," She paused, her cheeks turning a deeper shade of green in shame and anger, "the Romulans have no such qualms. They use it when force is required, and appently, to make someone else take the blame. It is very hard to detect, so whoever thought of the molecular scan deserves a notation in her record for this!"
The Romulan tapped her combadge. "El-Salvador come in. Stacey, I have found something interesting. That is.."
"Lieutenant Maria Ludrow," Ian supplied.
"That is, Lieutenant Maria Ludrow, up in molecular science, did. The explosive contained Ultritium, a chemical explosive often used by the Romulans."

=^Crash Site=^=
James watched the other two sleep carefully before looking once more towards the horizon when he thought he seen something glint over the sky catching his attention as the object slowly landed. He recognized the shuttle it was the Mini Sal and out it's back hatch several officers including a medical officer would come out of the back of the shuttle. He smiled hoping that they were in fact really there he would slowly wake Belanna, "Lieutenant a rescue party is here wake up." He watched as her eyes would slowly open and peer into his.
Belanna heard the voice floating in her dreams it soothed her to know that she could hear his voice in her sleep. However, before long she began to realize that he really was talking to her and she would slowly open her eyes and look into his. "Rescue us?" It was several seconds before she heard their own back hatch being pried open and she would look towards it. Behind it several of their officers appeared including a couple medical officers.
James watched as the rescue took several minutes they couldn't beam out because of the strange interference that had caused the crash in the first place. Or, they were jammed he would investigate further when he had the chance to after the remainder of his people were safe. He watched as they took Marcus first then he would follow as they took Belanna and a couple others took Hernandez's body. The ride on the Mini Sal was smooth all the way into the hanger bay and they would transport the injured to sickbay. He hoped that they came in time to save Ernie, and after that he would make his way to the bridge planning on visiting Belanna later on.

Finnaly things on the bridge began to lift in mood, the Mini Sal had reported that they had picked up the survivors and were on their way back to the ship, Stacey herself breathed a sigh of relief.
She was about to allow herself to leave the bridge and get something to eat when the comm. Channel. Again came to life.
"El-Salvador come in. Stacey, I have found something interesting. That is.."
Stacey stopped in her tracks, two things about S’reena’s comment made her feel excited one she had used her name instead of rank.. and she had found something interesting.
“Go Ahead Commander.” She replied desperate for the explanation.
"That is, Lieutenant Maria Ludrow, up in molecular science, did. The explosive contained Ultritium, a chemical explosive often used by the Romulans."
Stacey stood still for a moment thinking it over.. Romulans… it had been raised before but she had been reluctant to think the Romulans would have had a hand in the explosion… She couldn’t see what they had to gain… but she was happy they now had something to help the captain with.
“Excellent work Commander… very quickly collect whatever further evidence you can and then return to the ship… bring everyone with you… if what this evidence points to is true things are about to get complicated… I will contact the President and inform him of our finding… Jackson out.”
She turned to the tactical station and said. “I want continues scans for Romulan vessels… anything that remotely looks like a cloaked ship I want to know about…. Hail the Democratic government… no cancel that Hail the facility that they took the Captain to.”
Several seconds later the view screen changed to a dark office with a civilian Meran sitting behind the desk who looked at Stacey with a small amount of surprise.
Stacey gave him a smile and said. “I assume you are in charge… I have been reading up on your laws for a while now and as such request you give Captain Savot his right under section 4 paragraph three of the prisoners rights.”
The Meran civilian looked confused for a second before leaning into his desk and closer to his screen. “That right only allows contact for prisoners with their family… it does not include their crewmen.”
Stacey thought for a quick second thinking she was busted until she looked back up and without skipping a beat she said. “Indeed I know that sir… I am his Wife… we Wed last year… therefore am under your laws his family.”
He squinted his eyes for a moment looking at Stacey who had been a counsellor long enough to know how to pull off a convincing poker face. “Your captain never mentioned he was married to anyone never mind you.”
She gave a small smile and nodded in acknowledgment. “I am sure you have noticed he as all Vulcans are is a private and emotionless man… he no doubt wasn’t asked about his family and therefore didn’t offer the information up as logically it has nothing to do with his arrest.”
The civilian sighed and leaned back before saying. “Very well.. you will have ten minutes to talk to him… however I will monitor your conversation.. as is our laws… I will send a guard to escort him to this office”
She nodded. “Of Course I only want to make sure he is alright… nothing sinister you have my word.”
Several minutes of nervous waiting hoping Savot hadn’t told the truth to the guard who went to get him to take a call from his ‘wife’ that he wasn’t married to Stacey. She knew that he wouldn’t outright lie but she hoped he just wouldn’t correct their false understanding of the situation.
When she saw him finally on screen she her insides settled down and she swallowed slightly. “Ah Savot… good to see you are well… we don’t have much time… however I just needed to see you were unharmed… we found traces of Ultritium in the explosive and I know that substance can cause sickness for Vulcan’s.” she raised her hand to her hair and ran her hand through her hair something she did when she was stressed something she had hoped Savot in his uncanny ability to notice things had noticed before.
“I am finding the government most helpful in the situation… I couldn’t be happier with their willingness to listen to us.. I am positive they will release you when we present our findings to them,”
her whole statement was a lie and she hoped that Savot could see that.. and that he would pick up on the Ultritium and know what that meant… because if Hope was right and Romulans were behind this… Savot was in more trouble than he knew.

Location: Shuttlecraft
Commander Richards stood all the trip sit and fasten seat-belts. He was transfered to the El'Salvador as Chief Ops. His CO, Captain Savot, was waiting for his arrival. After a large warp trip, the shuttlecraft pilot, Ensign Soderling notice:
"Commander, We'll arrival to the USS El'Salvador shuttlebay in 15 minutes. I recommend you to prepared to the landing"
"Great!" Max stutters with a nervous voice.
He left the Starbase Conqueror with a rare feeling, his betazed premonition ability are too recently to take part of his daily life.
"Shuttlecraft 'Greenwich' request permission to landing. Authorization Code A385-01." The pilot calls to the El'Sal when exiting light speed.
No response...
"USS El'Salvador, do you read me?"...

=^=Two Years Ago=^=
James simply shook his head, yes maybe his father did disapprove of him going off to Starfleet perhaps that was why they had clashed the night prior. It didn't matter to him anyway his family was full of isolationists anyway. Even David his father was like that for reasons that he would never understand. Nor, did he or would he ever really understand why his father was so against Starfleet or it's values. He did little to care as he sat in the testing area hoping that he would pass his entry exam and hoping that Marcus would to. And, yet throughout the entire exam all he thought about was how his father had practically cut him down and made him feel so very small for such a choice. Perhaps it was the different races that Starfleet had become so full of that his very own father shunned the Federation and his son's possible entry as an officer serving the fleet. All he ever wanted to do was make his father proud and at the same time live his own life not that of his father's...
Lieutenant Fire shook the thoughts out of his head as he sat down at the Helm after crossing the bridge seeing that Commander Jackson seemed slightly more excited they must have found something out during the investigation that he'd missed. He noticed something picked up on the sensors, "Commander there is a shuttle that just appeared it seems that..."
"Shuttlecraft 'Greenwich' request permission to landing. Authorization Code A385-01."
"USS El'Salvador, do you read me?"...
"It's Authorization Code is that of our new Operations Officer ma'am." He finished his sentence after the entire bridge crew heard the hail.

To his credit, Savot was relatively undistracted by the encounter with his doppleganger. Eerie and philosophically thought-provoking though it had been, the vulcan captain's focus remained on the El Salvador's mission and her crew. He settled into solving various mathematical equations in his head to keep his mind sharp and was doing this for about an hour when the sound of approaching footsteps caught his attention.
As it was not yet time for further nourishment, he expected that more questioning was desired but he was to find that assumption was quite mistaken. A trio of guards approached the cell and one unlocked it and gestured for the vulcan to follow into their midst, "Your wife has contacted us to request confirmation of your well-being, Captain. Please come with us."
Both of Savot's internal eyebrows raised in surprise at the statement, but outwardly he just managed to keep his expression semi-curious, "Indeed?" He rose and bowed his head in gratitude to the guards before entering the middle of their triangular formation. It took only a couple of minutes to arrive at what seemed to be the duty office, and the officer of the day was present and nodded to his men when he saw the vulcan with them. The officer gestured to the screen and Savot saw the image of his 'wife'...
He was saved from making the initial greeting as Jackson got right to business, “Ah Savot… good to see you are well… we don’t have much time… however I just needed to see you were unharmed… we found traces of Ultritium in the explosive and I know that substance can cause sickness for Vulcans.” Savot's eyes narrowed slightly at the news of the chemical explosive component... one typically associated with Romulan use, then blinked in near amusement at her ending statement. If Romulans were indeed at work in this situation then a Starfleet Captain being held in the custody of people the Romulans were actively manipulating could indeed find himself facing a sudden 'sickness'.
He watched her as she spoke; she raised her hand to her hair and ran her hand through her hair as she contined, "I am finding the government most helpful in the situation… I couldn’t be happier with their willingness to listen to us.. I am positive they will release you when we present our findings to them." Her body language seemed at odds with the statements she was making and the vulcan surmised she was not nearly as comfortable with the present circumstances as she let on for the benefit of their Meran observers. Savot bowed his head slowly to assure he her understood her meaning.
"Your concern is most thoughtful, my lady. I can assure you that for the moment I seem quite fit and am being treated very well by the democratic government. I expect your hopes for the situation will prove accurate and I'll be returned to you soon. However, under the current circumstances your first priority is to the safety of the children", Savot said referring of course to the El Salvador crew though the locals had no way of knowing he had no offspring.
The captain bid her farewell at an impatient glance from the duty officer, "I shall endeavor to inform you immediately should I develop any symptoms of the ailment in which case perhaps the government will be generous enough to allow treatment by our medical personnel as their own hospitals are no doubt taxed with treating their wounded. May we speak again soon."
He ended with another bow of his head, and when it lifted again the vulcan found himself somewhat comforted. At the very least he had seen for himself that the El Salvador was still intact and Commander Jackson's behavior hadn't seemed to hint at any further crew loss. Some was possible of course but imagined her response would have been more readable had there been a large amount of casualties. Though he had little control over his personal situation, as he was escorted back to his cell Savot took satisfaction in the knowledge that his crew and the vessel he was charged with commanding were all right.

“Excellent work Commander… very quickly collect whatever further evidence you can and then return to the ship… bring everyone with you… if what this evidence points to is true things are about to get complicated… I will contact the President and inform him of our finding… Jackson out.”
"Acknowledged commander," the Romulan answered before the first officer cut the signal. "All right everyone, gather whatever you are working on and return to the ship immediately!" she ordered, while raising her voice, "take everything you can carry and have it taken to cargobay one. We will continue our work there. Ian, take these fragments back with you, I shall beam up shortly. Make sure everyone reports their findings to you, collaborate them for me in a single report."
"Yes ma'am," the lieutenant replied smartly, took the fragment from her and gathered the others together.
S'reena listened to the multiple transporter signals, then tapped her combadge. "Colonel K'ratak. New orders from Commander Stacey. Return to the El-Salvador immediately. If possible, take package and additional baggage with you. Be careful though, package must remain undamaged." She hoped he understood that he wasn't to harm the poor scientist, and whoever was with him.
"My lord general, please accept my apologies but I have been ordered back to my vessel. You have my word that I will personally deliver a report of our findings to you, in a few hours." Then she had an idea. "If my commander permits, perhaps you would like to be present during our investigations, aboard our vessel?"

"Colonel K'ratak. New orders from Commander Stacey. Return to the El-Salvador immediately. If possible, take package and additional baggage with you. Be careful though, package must remain undamaged."
He listened and knew what she wanted he didn't see a problem and didn't question her orders. Commander Hope was one of the few people he trusted with out question and would do what ever she asked of him.
" Understood Commander I will try and not damage any of the gear. But you know us klingons sometimes we drop things by accident we can be a bit clumsy"
Very quitely he made his way to the guard who was so focused on the watching his target he didn't see him coming. With a quick jab he knocked the guard out he didn't have time to be formal about the request with the Guard. He made his way to the scientist home and knocked on the door. When the he answered he was taken back by seeing a large klingon on his door. " Excuse me sir Commander Hope would like to talk to you but not here someplace where you wont be interupted. If you will follow me I promise to make sure you are returned unharmed and unseen."
It took a minute but it seemed like they really wanted to talk and agreed to follow. He made his way back to the guard he knocked out. They were startled to see a person laying on the floor " Don't worry they are unharmed they were following you and we are wanting to know why. You dont reconginze them do you"
Before he could respond he noticed other people coming in there direction tapping his combadge " El- Salvador 3 to beam up directly to sick bay " a few moments later he and his party would were standing in sick bay " automaticly they went to work mode with out question scanning the down guard " Please keep him sedated until Commander Hope arrives dont need him waking up just yet"
" Looking at the scientist why dont you follow me to the observation lounge until Comander Hope returns no harm will come to you" Walking out of sick bay he tapped his combadge " Commander Hope the gear has been safely beamed aboard the sentive gear is safe on sound the engineering gear is a little banged up but being repaired and will be stored until needed"<Tag Hope>

Firestorm too, heard the call to return to the El-Salvador. He scowled under his breath, his long tail lashing angrily as he walked among the patients that were laid out in the great all. There was nowhere else to put them, and this was still a safe structure, structurally speaking. Since he had beamed down, many more had succumbed to their injuries, both while being treated here on the surface, as well as after having been sent to the El-Salvador.
Though an experienced medical doctor, Firestorm just couldn't get used to losing a patient, and it weighed heavily on him. His fur had gone a little dull from his exertions in trying to save as many as he could, his whiskers drooping in disappointment and sense of loss. "Beam up as many wounded as possible. No don't argue with me crewman!" he hissed into his combadge, "stow them in the cargobays if you have to but I'm not leaving them unattended! Yes, I'm aware of what Doctor Irae might have to say about this, but it's on my authority, do you hear!"
The reply was muffled but one by one the patients started to dissolve into sparkles of light. Lashing his tail, Firestorm stalked away, walking up to the Romulan science chief, fast. "I'm taking the wounded, I'm going to do everything I can for them," he informed her, not bothering to make it a request. She wasn't in charge, Jackson was, and if Jackson too had something to say, then she just had to wait until he was back aboard. Firestorm could care less.
Yet, he snaked his tail around the Romulan's waist, in a protective manner. He felt and saw the woman pat the tip of his tail, while she waited for the Meran officer to respond. Releasing her, knowing she'd be all right for now, he signaled the El-Salvador that he was ready to be returned to the ship. Seconds later, he marched out of the transporter room, first went by sickbay to re-stock his medical kit, then headed straight for the cargoholds, where the remainder of his patients had been transported to. He would do all he could, even if it'd mean it'd drive him to the point of exhaustion.
