The Acting Captain remained on the bridge or in the ready room for most of the rest of the journey to Axion, reviewing status reports from around the ship and directing ship's operations from the bridge.
Parsons had given schematics and maps of the medical facilities and the surrounding areas to Commander Daya, so that he could best plan for the security of the teams of Starfleet personnel that would be on the planet. Kirk was busy working out the bugs in the ship, and there were no major problems reported with the ship nearing its destination. Adam felt a bit relieved. Hunter had been working with Daya on the security preparations while Pai and the good doctor had been planning the relief effort.
"Bridge to Dr. Tintagel," Parsons inquired.
"Yes, Captain," responded the chief medical officer.
"How are your preparations coming? We are nearing the planet. Are you ready to brief the senior staff?"

”How are your preparations coming? We are nearing the planet. Are you ready to brief the senior staff?”
“Well, and yes. I'll be right up to the conference room.” She trusted that the Acting Captain would call people to it. Illito was pretty much as prepared as she could have been, but then this was a lot of what she'd been trained for at Starfleet Academy. There was an existing vaccine and treatment, and the planet of Axion seemed to be containing the problem. The important thing while on the planet would be to minimize the Starfleet officer's exposure to the disease. Which meant giving the officer's who would be in contact with any infected personnel the vaccine, but not wasting the admittedly limited supplies on anyone who wouldn't be.
Illito had started analysis of the vaccine to see whether, and had prepped all her sickbay staff for the aid. She'd also carefully read the report from Starfleet Medical so she could recognize the symptoms, though she understood that they would be rather noticeable.
When everyone had assembled in the conference room, Illito started the briefing, or at least what she thought was meant to be in the briefing. “This disease works like Rigelian flu, by damaging glandular systems and causing to rise dramatically. It's highly infectious, and must be treated quickly in order to prevent permanent neurological damage. The best chance for the inhabitants of Axion, and the goal we're trying to reach by using the vaccine, is to contain the disease—to stop it from spreading any further.”
Illito glanced nervously at Pride, then at Parsons, hoping she had included in the briefing what they wanted.

Katie and Paikea had spent a fun day down in the cargo bay making sure that all the supplies she had requested actually showed up. It was a fun day because they had a chance to work while at the same time be casual with each other during the long and boring process of accounting for shipments. Half way through the counting Paikea had fallen asleep while watching Katie and she couldn’t pass up the chance to color on his face.
“What?” Pai said
“Nothing.” Katie replied.
She couldn’t keep back her giggles and Paikea knew something was wrong by the way she was smiling at him. He touched his face instinctively and found the black powered substance that Katie had smeared onto his face.
“Your dead!” Pai shouted.
Before long the black powder was everywhere! Katie tried to get to her feet but she was laughing to hard. Pai, being the perfect gentleman that he was, offered his hand to Katie but she took that moment of weakness to toss more of the black powder in his face. The royal rumble continued for another gut busting few minutes until the cargo bay doors opened sending a shock to both of them.
There was no where they could go so Katie stood up trying to pretend that nothing had happened despite the fact that her entire face and uniform were covered in the black soot. Her eyes veered to the sound of the footsteps and when the figure came into view her heart sank.
“Commander Kirk what brings you down here?” Pai asked.
Katie swallowed hard. The new officer was already known around the ship for being a cold and unfriendly officer. The last thing she wanted was to have odd glances her way whenever she saw the new chief of engineering.

“Commander Kirk, what brings you down here?” Kirk head the black-faced Commander First Class ask.
Kirk walked slowly each step deliberate, his eyes never wavering from the Science Officer. It was true the Science officer officially out ranked him in the eyes of the Starfleet rank system but onboard this ship he was the ship’s Second Officer and third in Command. He had pull and he knew it as well as the two officers before him.
“I came down here to find replacement isolinear chips.” Kirk replied coldly, looking into the eyes of each officer.
“They are over there sir.” Kirk heard the small voice before him as well as seeing her arm point to a distant cargo container. His eyes and head followed the outstretched arm until he locked onto the cargo container in question.
Turning back to the officers he spoke frankly, “I suggest that this play time of yours take place on your time, not on ships time. I do not want to have to report this to Commander Parson but I will if I see you fraternizing with another junior officer, Commander.” Kirk finished his tongue-lashing and moved over to the cargo container they were talking about either.
As he rifled through the cargo container to collect the appropriate number of chips not a single sound could be heard coming from the two officers. He did not enjoy having to discipline his fellow officers but he knew they should know better. They were to be an example to the enlisted crewmembers as well as their peers as they were both heads of their respective departments.
Kirk pocketed the correct number of chips that he needed and walked out of the cargo bay, “Kirk to Engineering.”
“Go ahead.”
“Could you send a clean up detail to Cargo Bay One. A single container has fallen over and spilled a black powdery substance all over the floor and I would like it to be cleaned up.”
“Right away sir.”
The channel closed and Kirk continued walking back down to Engineering. The shake down was not going as well as Kirk had wanted, several isolinear chips had shorted out due to power surges in the EPS grid, which caused the warp field to fluctuate with the changes in the warp mixture. He would have to install the new chips, adjust the mixture all while not letting the warp engines power down.
Kirk knew it was not a tough fix but it put more pressure on the engineer to get it right because an incorrect mixture at warp could have ship wide consequences if he was not careful.
“Kirk to the bridge.”
“Go ahead Commander.” Parson replied.
“I can give you maximum warp in about an hour sir.” Kirk replied, “Until then I do not suggest going higher than warp seven.”
“Understood.” Kirk heard the reply and the closing of the COM.

“What crawled up his butt?” Katie asked.
“Nothing.” Paikea replied.
“Is he always that mean?” Katie asked.
“As far as I know.” Paikea said.
Katie could tell that something was bothering Paikea and no amount of playful attention was going to get him out of it. She thought about it and wondered if it was something Jonathan had said to them. She couldn’t possibly see how it could have since they had been seeing each other long before Paikea was a Commander First Class. Then again, she was still just a Lieutenant Junior Grade.
“What’s the matter?” Katie asked.
Paikea had become quiet and distant. He had a long look in his eyes and he kept looking at the cargo bay doors. Katie felt that maybe Pai thought Jonathan was going to be coming back through the doors, but Katie didn’t feel that it was likely.

Luke sat at a desk in an Office that clearly had not been used for quite a while. He had been reviewing reports and information about the crew of the Scavenger all morning and was beginning to grow a little tired of it all. Generally most of the crew had been temporarily reassigned to the South Carolina with Parsons in Command. There were a few transfers lined up but Luke pretty much had the same crew that he left behind all those months. In name at least. He was concerned, not to the point of worry, but concerned all the same. It had been nearly five months since he left his crew, right after the destruction of their home. The timing could not have been more off if Starfleet had tried. He really wasn't entirely sure how the crew were going to react, and he knew he would have one or two more complicated conversations before the week was out. The ship was currently on a shakedown mission which Luke had no intention of joining, he was up to his eyeballs in reports and long and boring 'official discussions' over just what he had discovered in his time away. He wondered if he would ever be allowed to share with the crew just what it was that he had been sent away for. He doubted it. Just as he was beginning to think about getting something for lunch he groaned as a transmission bleeped on his screen, waiting to be accepted. He could just ignore it, pretend he hadn't seen it. But that of course, was not the way he was trained.
Minutes later and he was putting his padds and limited belongings in the holdal that seemed to see more of his stuff than any quarters would. In 15minutes he was getting on a high warp transport and heading home. Or to the ship that he was now supposed to call home. Apparantly time waited for no man, something that Luke had learnt over and over again. The South Carolina, Nova Class. That was where he was headed. Back into the midst of it all.

He noticed the high warp shuttle apporaching on long range senors. It was a federation shuttle from its transponder signal. It hadn't broad casted anything else yet which was worrying him a little. Who would be coming all the way out her in a big hurry he thought to himself.
He tapped his combadge " Commander Parsons we have a high warp shuttle inbound, its one of ours. It has not tryed to make contact yet and is on the extreme limits of our senor range. "

”How are your preparations coming? We are nearing the planet. Are you ready to brief the senior staff?”
“Well, and yes. I'll be right up to the conference room.”
"Very well, Doctor, I will see you in twenty minutes."
Parsons looked over a status report before pressing a button on an arm of the command chair, an annoying klaxon sounded and Parsons spoke when it had finished, "This is the Captain, there will be a briefing for all senior staff in the conference room in twenty minutes. That is all."
When everyone had assembled in the conference room, Illito started the briefing.
"Do we have a time frame on how long it will take to inoculate the populace, or at least have the Axion medical authority in a stable enough position to finish the job," Commander Parsons inquired.
<TAG Illito>
"Thank you, Doctor." Turning to Commander Daya, "Commander, I have received reports that some of the people on Axion fear a shortage of the vaccine and also feel some on the planet are being given preferential treatment in receiving the vaccine or treatment based on their social position. Riots have been reported at some medical facilities. Your security personnel will be needed to protect our people on the planet and assist the Axion police and military forces with the coordinating a response to the riots. I would like you to meet with the Axion minister for security as soon as possible."
<TAG Daya>
"Mr. Apirana, please join the doctor on the planet and assist with the replication of the vaccine.''
<TAG Pai>
"Ms. Anderson, I will need you to coordinate the entire operation from Ops."
<TAG Katie>
"Commander Pride, you will be in charge of our personnel on the planet."
<TAG Pride>
As the briefing came to a close, Commander Tras reported from the bridge, "Tras to Parsons."
"Go ahead, Commander."
"We have reached the planet and I am taking up orbit now."
"Understood Commander." Parsons looked around the briefing room, "you have your orders."
With that, the officer filed out of the conference room.

Katie left the meeting and went right over to her station on the bridge. She knew that she was responsible for getting all the supplies organized and down to the surface for the medical teams. Even though she felt safe onboard the ship she had fear in the back of her mind for Paikea and all the other people heading to the surface. She hoped that there was a vaccination already made for the flu and that it would be passed out to all the away team members.
Katie checked her screen and saw that her peers had done all the orders that she had left for them and that the supplies were ready to beam down.
“Commander Parson everything is in order and we're ready to start.” Katie said.

"Do we have a time frame on how long it will take to inoculate the populace, or at least have the Axion medical authority in a stable enough position to finish the job," Commander Parsons inquired.
“Assuming the most recent reports are accurate,” and they often weren't, Illito knew that, sometimes a population would make it sound worse so they would get more immediate help or make the situation sound better so they didn't seem too helpless or vulnerable, “then I would expect it to be somewhere in the range of four to five days. But that's just the timeline for having the Axion medical authority take over. If we wanted to stay until there was full inoculation, or at least to the extent that the disease wouldn't spread,” which wouldn't necessarily require full inoculation, because there were always isolated segments of the population who wouldn't be exposed to the disease, “then we're going to be here for several weeks. It's difficult to pin things down more than that without seeing the Axion facilities and resources.” What she knew was that they're resources of the vaccine had been limited, but that's what the South Carolina was fixing.
“Thank you, Doctor.”
Illito nodded, still nervous about having had to explain the disease, as Parsons assigned people their duties. When he had, now that people knew where they would be going, Illito needed to add something to what she'd said before. “Everyone going down to the surface should get the vaccine before they go. You can stop by sickbay; it won't take more than five minutes.” Lieutenant Avel was coordinating that aspect of the visit with the planet, since he would be staying on the ship to oversee trouble here.

Kirk had working hard on the engines when the assistant chief engineer rushed over to him and tapped him on the shoulder.
“Lieutenant if this is going to become a more frequent occurrence I would rather you use the COM badge to get my attention.” Kirk said in a monotone voice while still tinkering with the console in front of him.
“Sir, you missed the staff meeting.” The young junior officer replied.
“What staff meeting?” Kirk quested as he turned around to face the young engineer.
“A friend of mine works in the OPS section and he told me their department head had a meeting this morning about our current mission. I told him, ‘well our chief is still in the engine room’, he then replied, ‘well he better get up there ASAP’.”
“And this is where it ends I take it?”
“Yeah,” He replied holding out a Kirk a data PADD.
Kirk took the PADD and read it over as quickly as he could. When he finished his expression was less than neutral and the young engineer could see it rather clearly, “That-” Kirk could not finish his sentence.
“Engineering to sickbay.”
“Sickbay here.”
“I would like to request a complete file on this flu that we are about to encounter. I wish to use it to establish a residual background scan of the ship as a secondary precaution.”

“Engineering to sickbay.”
“Sickbay here,” Illito replied, after the half-second it took for her to finish giving Commander Daya his inoculation. She nodded at Daya that he should check in with Lt. Commander Avel, and then he could be on his way.
“I would like to request a complete file on this flu that we are about to encounter. I wish to use it to establish a residual background scan of the ship as a secondary precaution.”
“Yes,” Illito said. “I'll get the information right to you.” Fortunately she already had the complete file from Starfleet, with her notes, so with only as much delay as it took her to gather up that information, Illito sent a copy of it to the Engineering officer.
Illito was, perhaps to be expected, the last person who to arrive at the transporter room. After seeing that everyone had their injection, she had had to get one herself, and so it was a slightly flustered Chief Medical Officer who arrived at the transporter room. She wouldn't have been so late, but she'd investigated why Pride hadn't dropped by for inoculation, only to discover that he was leaving. Leaving the South Carolina, and her, therefore. Which was most of why she was actually flustered, even if she wasn't about to admit that to anyone.
Without a word to any of her coworkers, Illito stepped onto the transporter pad, waiting to be beamed down so she could begin work. She coped, if it could really be called coping, by throwing herself into her work. It was what she always did; it was what she knew how to do. And if she had to justify it, she'd say that she was helping people, this way.

"Commander Kirk, report."
“Working on a bio filter right now Commander so we do not have a possible infection onboard when the away team comes back.”
"Commander, you missed the staff meeting, are you sure everything is alright down their?"
”Everything is fine Commander. I just caught wind of the staff briefing just a little while ago. I have been very busy running tests on the engines as well as building this filter program I just mentioned.” "Very well, I will expect your Engineering report shortly. Coordinate with the other department heads during the mission."
“My report has already been filed and should be on your desk. I have also been in contact with the Doctor to help prevent an outbreak on the ship.” Kirk replied still busy with what he was doing.
“Very good. Parsons out.”
Kirk paid no attention to the closing of the COM signal; his mind was busy going over the DNA of the virus down on the planet. It was going to take a little time but the best method was to run it through the ships computer and make it an active scan during transportation as well as having it run in the background.
He knew it was going to put a serious draw on the new electrical system but there was no better way to test a system out then to field test it.
OCC: Lets get this thing moving forward.

The high speed shuttle was nearing it's destination and Luke could almost feel the sweat forming on his brow. He wasn't one to feel nervous, but at this very moment it felt like Gagh had somehow managed to work their way into his stomach, avoided being digested and were making themselves quite at home. Not a very pleasant thought, which in turn began to make him feel nauseus.
"Space sick?" The Ensign piloting the shuttle asked.
Luke shook his head, not daring to open his mouth. The Ensign looked as if he didn't quite believe the pale and clammy Captain but spoke no more. It was almost embarrassing, to feel like this. But he supposed, in some sort of strange way, this was a good sign. That he genuinely cared about how the crew would receive him.
Trying to take his mind off the ever closer reunion he gazed down at the padd that rested on his knees telling him of his orders. They were simple enough for now, but he was sure the crew weren't going to like them. Another source of the nerves that were causing his undershirt to feel quite damp.
"We are now approaching the South Carolina, Sir." The Ensign said, breaking the silence.
Luke looked up from his knees and grimaced slightly as the shuttle dropped out of warp, entering into a co-orbit with the S. Carolina. He was a pilot for crying out loud, they didn't get space sick. And for that matter, he was a soldier, why was all of this bothering him so much?
"Would you like me to contact the South Carolina Sir?"
Luke shook his head. "They will have detected the Shuttle and should be briefed on my arrival. Prepare for my transport and then wait for your clearance to dock."
The Ensign nodded his understanding and waited for Luke to step onto the small transported pad at the back of the shuttle. Once ready, he nodded and felt the familiar feeling of transport swirl around him, making him even more nauseus. Something definately wasn't right. First the nerves. Then the space sickness. Now this? It had to be psychological. Let it be psychological.
"Captain Drago. I don't believe we were expecting you to transport over. Commander Parsons and the other Senior Staff are on their way to Shuttle Bay 2." The Transporter technician reported.
"It doesn't matter Crewman. Make sure my belongings are transported to my quarters as soon as the shuttle has docked and inform Commander Parsons that I will see him on the Bridge."
Luke left the Transporter room in a hurry, wiping his brow with the sleeve of his uniform jacket. He was beginning to feel better already, like putting on old comforting pair of shoes. He guessed his way to the Bridge, not being overly familiar with the Nova class design and took a brief look round before coughing loudly enough for the Officers on duty there to look up. Many were new faces but there were one or two that he recognised from the Bridge staff on the Scavenger.
"Captain on Deck!" One Lieutenant practically screamed, as she saw who it was. "Captain Drago, I didn't... We didn't... Commander Parsons is..."
Luke cut across the now slightly trembling Lieutenant. "Thank you Officer, that's all. Please continue with your work. Who is at the helm today?"
"That would be Commander Tras Sir, he is in the Shuttle Bay, with your welcoming contingent as it were..."
Luke rolled his eyes. "Very well." He sat down on the slightly firm chair and punched in co-ordinates to break orbit and head back to Assailant. Moments later and the comms chimed.
=^= Parsons to Bridge, why are we breaking orbit? =^=
"Parsons, Drago here. I would very much appreciate yours and the rest of the Senior Staff's presence in the Ready Room as soon as possible."
<TAG Parsons>
"Very good Commander. I will see you shortly, Drago out."
The comm closed and Luke frowned, that was weird. Weirder than it should have been. Perhaps his nerves were well founded.
"If you don't mind me asking Sir." The Lieutenant who had screamed his arrival started. "Where are we heading?"
Luke narrowed his eyes but then smiled. "Onward." He simply replied.
"What of our current mission?" She asked.
"That will all be explained in due course Lieutenant, please continue with your work until told otherwise." He said, not in snappish way, but in a way that left no misunderstanding as to who was in charge. He had no intention of sounding harsh, but he needed to establish himself on this ship and re-establish himself amongst the crew. "I will be in the Ready Room." He added. "Please inform the Senior Staff to enter as they arrive."
It barely took Luke the time to get the replicator to make him a relatively decent cup of coffee before the Senior Officers entered the Ready Room, although one clearly missing.
"Welcome back Captain." Adam said, offering his hand in the traditional grasp.
"Thank you." Luke replied, accepting the offer and clasping the man's hand tightly in a friendly way. "It is good to see you all." He said genuinely, the nerves returning slightly. "Please, all help yourselves to drinks and take a seat." No one got a drink, clearly also slightly awkward but all sat down a little too quickly. "Where is Commander Kirk?" Luke asked.
"Engineering when I last checked." Parsons replied. "Although I am sure he will be making his way up here, having noticed we are no longer in orbit and the warp core is in use."
Sure enough, within seconds of the last sentence ending Kirk entered the Ready Room, looking less than impressed. "Does anyone want to tell me what is going on?" He snapped in the way that only an ex-Drone really could ever achieve.
Luke stood up, so that Kirk refocussed on him, instead of Parsons forcing Kirk to take a step back.
"Oh." He said.
"Hello John".

Kirk had been under a console for the better part of two hours trying to repair some burnt out circuits when another engineer rushed down to him. He knew the officer was there but he refused to recognize him until he had finished making the reconnections with the brand new circuits.
“Sir?”
Kirk stopped dead and exhaled loudly to show the younger officer his disgust in the fact that he had just interrupted him during a delicate procedure, “Yes?” He finally managed to say.
“If I may ask sir, where is you COM badge?”
“I used it for parts so Commander Parson would stop bugging and crying on about his engineering report. Why?”
“Well sir,” the young engineer said as he adjusted his squatting stance, “Captain Drago has just asked all senior staff members to meet him in his ready room.”
“Luke is back?” Kirk said more to himself than to the officer squatting before him.
“It appears that Captain Drago is indeed back sir.”
Giving the officer a frustrated glance at his unknown ease dropping Kirk got to his feet, but not before passing a soldering torch to the young man, “I need those circuits back online before I get back.”
“Of course sir.”
“Thank you.” Kirk said but only as a knee jerk reaction. The phrase hit him so hard that it stopped his in his tracks and it forced him to ponder for a moment. Did I just thank him for doing his job? Kirk thought, I must be happy to hear that Commander Dowding is back.
The doors to Drago’s ready room opened with the whish that is should and standing before him was the entire senior staff and of course Captain Luke Dowding.
"Hello John.” Said the man Kirk and the rest of Starfleet knew as Luke Drago.
“Luke,” Kirk said taking a more official stance to respect Drago’s rank, “glad to have you back.”

At that moment Luke genuinely couldn't decide if Kirk was being sincere or not. He knew that he wasn't the same guy that had served with him all that time ago on the Tiger Shark and had almost convinced himself that this prolongued time away as well as the general weird situation of him being someone quite different but yet the same would cause a problem. However, whatever the situation was, it could be sorted later.
"Thank you." He said in response to John's welcome after realising he hadn't spoken for a while. "Please take a seat Commander." He added, motioning to the only empty space next to the door. With all the Senior Officer's in here it was a little cosy, and more than a little tense. "Well." Luke started, sitting behind the desk and looking at the men and women before him as well as managing to get a glimpse of the personal belongings of Adam that were dotted about the Ready Room, trying to ignore these he continued. "I am very much pleased to be back." He said. "And I am sure that there are questions that you wish to ask but at this moment I cannot answer them." He hated this, being so cryptic the whole time. "For the moment I am not in command of this vessel." This sentence seemed strange to him and probably confused his crew even more. "I am here to instigate a period of readjustment." He could feel his own bitterness in the tone of his voice. "Commander Parsons is to remain as Acting CO, with Pride as Acting FO. However, on our arrival at Assailant there will be a number of transfers and things will begin to return to normal. I hope." He paused and looked at Adam, who he could tell was finding this very strange.
"What of our current mission?" He asked.
"Another vessel has been dispatched at my request. The least we need at the moment are the concerns of others when we have our own issues to resolve." At that moment it felt like the air had been sucked from the room. Luke was almost sure that he would be able to ear the dropping of a tea cup in the Lounge several decks below if he listened hard enough. The sentence he had just spoken was not one that you often heard a Starfleet Officer say. "It sounds harsh, but it is the reality all the same. In time I hope that you all understand, but it is essential that we try and return to some form of normality before our next assignment. Clear?" There were a few sketchy nods in response so Luke continued. "Do you have anything to ask me?" He said, addressing no one in particular.

Kirk had listened to the entire briefing and from his point of view it sounded as if something was amiss. He decided it would be best to speak with Luke in private instead of questioning his commanding officer in front of the entire senior staff. That chance made itself clear after Drago and Parsons finished their discussion and Parsons left the room.
"Something on your mind John?"
Kirk was a little taken back by Drago's sudden casual nature, but something about it reminded him of Luke. The face was different, changed by the tides of war, but the friendly voice was there and it was that voice that allowed Kirk to let himself break away from his normal conservative frame of mind.
"Yes there is," Kirk said approaching Drago, "I do not understand why we are being recalled. Despite what Starfleet thinks, I think this ship and her crew are perfectly able to handle our mission. and if I might add, if there are concerns about our officers I believe this would be a perfect test for us."
Kirk spoke his peace and had done it less as a Starfleet Commander and more as a long friend of a man he honestly knew only by association. Despite what he thought he had a feeling what he was about to hear was not the answer he was looking for.

"Captain," Parsons said quizzically, "yes, sir, on my way."
Upon entering the readyroom, "welcome back Captain." Adam said, offering his hand in the traditional grasp.
"Thank you." Luke replied. "It is good to see you all. Please, all help yourselves to drinks and take a seat."
Parsons sat down.
"Where is Commander Kirk?" Luke asked.
"Engineering when I last checked." Parsons replied. "Although I am sure he will be making his way up here, having noticed we are no longer in orbit and the warp core is in use."
* * *
Parsons was thoroughly confused and was sure that shown clear in his expression.
"What of our current mission?" He asked.
Parsons was now not only confused, but growing agitated. The planet that the South Carolina was now orbiting was in desperate need of assistance and Starfleet was going to have them wait on another ship. It just didn't make any sense.
These orders were anything but clear, but Parsons was accustomed to following orders.
"And what of the people on Axion. Starfleet just expects them to wait on another ship? We are already in place, with the proper equipment and personnel."
<TAG Drago>
"I understand, Captain. Sir, before we depart, I request permission to inform the Prime Minister of our new orders and at least transport the supplies and equipment we were to deliver to the surface."

Illito was called up from the transporter room just as the team was about to transport down to the planet. Apparently Captain Drago had returned, a fact Illito found good. And the South Carolina was abandoning the planet they had been preparing to help, which Illito found more worrisome. Were they really going to pull out of giving aid to Axion right now? Who would see that the medication was distributed? And how long would it take them to get there?
Illito was unhappy with the situation, but she did not let it show, as she made her way to the ready room. She'd bring up the issue at some point, to see that it was taken care of, and these people were helped. Fortunately, she didn't need to bring it up, as Captain Drago addressed the issue. Not entirely to her satisfaction, but it was better than nothing.
Captain Drago also had some other things to say, like that the crew had 'their own issues to resolve' and that they 'needed to return to some sort of normality.' Illito nodded, not entirely sure that normality was necessary, though. Their present command structure certainly didn't seem normal. It seemed confusing.
Parsons spoke up, indicating his disapproval of the way the aid to Axion was being handled, and Illito nodded in agreement, without saying anything. Her medical opinion wasn't really likely to sway anyone. Everyone involved seemed to have their minds made up already, and Illito didn't have any extra information to contribute.

"And what of the people on Axion. Starfleet just expects them to wait on another ship? We are already in place, with the proper equipment and personnel."
Luke knew that there would be questions to his actions, and over the past few years he'd grown used to having to provide answers. This was no different, and he answered as honestly as he felt that he could.
"Not at all, they will not have to wait at all. Starfleet expects the vessel to arrive within the next hour." He replied simply
"I understand, Captain. Sir, before we depart, I request permission to inform the Prime Minister of our new orders and at least transport the supplies and equipment we were to deliver to the surface."
"The Prime Minister was informed by Command prior to my arrival. What supplies we had on board were beamed down before we broke orbit, they will be quite alright until the new relief vessel arrives. I can assure you of that." Luke looked around at the uncomfortable Officers that sat before him. If there are no other questions then I would ask you to resume your duties. This ship is still on shakedown and there is no reason why the usual system checks can not be completed as we return to drydock, which will not be Assailant, she recently took heavy damage and as a result is undergoing repairs while her crew has relocated to the planet in which the Starbase orbited."
"Where then are we heading Sir?" Asked Apirana.
"To Earth." Luke replied. "You are dismissed." He rasied his eyebrows as some looked as if they were going to speak up but then apparantly thought better of it. They slowly filed out of the Ready Room until Luke was left alone except for Kirk who had chosen to stay behind.
"Something on your mind John?" Luke was explicit in using the Officer's first name, recent events had reminded him of certain important things in life, including friendship. This John Kirk may not be the one he fought side by side with years from now but he was the same John Kirk. A friend all the same.
"Yes there is," Kirk said approaching Drago, "I do not understand why we are being recalled. Despite what Starfleet thinks, I think this ship and her crew are perfectly able to handle our mission. and if I might add, if there are concerns about our officers I believe this would be a perfect test for us."
Luke sighed. "No one is asking you to be tested or to prove yourselves. I requested that we be recalled." He paused and met Kirk's steely gaze. "I want to make sure that we can work together, that we can remain as a team. I've read reports about things being slightly unsettled here, and I don't suppose my return has helped that. I cannot allow anyone to suffer because of our possibly instability." He looked away and stared out of the window at the stars that appeared to be shooting past them as they cruised at warp. "Does that make sense?" He asked as an after thought.

The South Carolina was headed back to Earth, a place that was only really of interest to Illito from an academic point of view, and the fact that it was where Starfleet Headquarters were. Illito hadn't been to Earth since she had graduated from the Academy there. Which, admittedly, hadn't been that long ago.
When the officers were dismissed, Illito didn't speak to any of the others as they filed out. But that was hardly noticeable; despite the mutual confusion/worry, the officers weren't discussing their worries. However, Illito had been told to return to her duties, and an important part of her duties were sickbay checkups. “Would you mind stopping by sickbay as soon as you get a chance for a medical exam?” Illito asked Pai, who nodded absentmindedly.

Illito wasn't sure that he would find time to drop by sickbay, which was one of the reasons why she didn't stand around waiting for him to show up. The other was that she other duties to do. When she had been preparing to help with the vaccinations, Illito had let the sickbay become less orderly than she usually left it. Now, she went to work cleaning up her workplace, making it more organized than it had been when she had first arrived on the South Carolina.
She was uncommonly deeply absorbed in her work, and so was startled at the sound of Lieutenant Commander Avel approaching. “Doctor Tintagel?” he asked.
“Yes Commander?” she replied.
“I thought...I wanted to let you know that I've been accepted to the teaching position on Beta Ursae Minor.”
Illito turned around, smiling warmly. “Congratulations. You deserve it.”
“Thank you sir.” Avel ducked his head, embarrassed. “My transfer orders have come through—apparently they want me to start as soon as possible—so when we arrive on Earth I'll be on my way.”
Illito couldn't say she would be sad to see Avel go. Their relationship had always been awkward, and based on the tenuous connection of a belief on both their parts that the most important thing was to save lives and a mutual stubbornness that meant neither of them had ever complained to the other about a superior, even though there had been times that even just working together had been hard.
Still, she thought they had been building up some respect for each other. And she wasn't looking forward to having to fill the Commander's position. As far as Illito was concerned, Avel had been as much a part of her career as the Scavenger. Maybe more, because he had been around slightly longer.
“Good luck,” Illito said after a pause. “Educate your students well. Stay in contact, if you want to.”
Avel also let a moment go by, thinking her words over. “I think I will.”
“Good.” Illito nodded, and Avel, taking that as the end-of-conversation-marker she had meant it to be, nodded back, and Illito returned to sorting the medical supplies of the South Carolina, wondering whether she would have any say in her new second in command in sickbay (since she hadn't had any say in the first one) or not.

Luke sat with his eyes closed in his darkened quarters. He had left the Ready Room only a half hour before, happy with his conversation with John. The two had been friends many years ago. John didn't know where they had served together beyond the Tiger Shark and Luke knew that must prove to be extremely difficult, looking into the eyes of a friend who you know but yet don't... He sat in a temporary room until the refit and mod of the South Carolina was complete, many, if not all of the Senior Staff rooms were currently uninhabitable with much of the floors missing and several of them with no direct access to the main computer. One could say that the lack of computer access was survivable. Luke was adament that the missing floor was not. As he sat with his eyes closed, his consciousness soon began to slip away from him, sleep wanting to claim the hours in which he should've been awake. In theory, this wasn't much of a problem, he currently he had no duties to fulfil but the sleep he drifted into was uneasy and when he awoke a terrible headache combined itself with neck pain from sleeping at a questionable angle at his desk. He didn't often go to the Doctor for run of the mill problems, but he figured that it might be time to make an exception. And besides, he had never really willingly visited any sort Sickbay, in fact he was hard pushed to think of a time he had ever been to visit the Doctor when she hadn't been demanding a physical. Even then he rarely went to the Scavenger's Infirmary. Something that at that moment he regretted. How many other areas of the ship had he chosen to avoid? How many people had he isolated in this time? He left his quarters making sure to take in every detail of the Ship around him as he possibly could, he was not going to make the same mistakes again. He sighed. What had seeing Luke again done to him? And immediately cautioned himself. Why was whatever that was a bad thing? Perhaps this was a growing thing, a sign of development, not weakness? He was sure that he wouldn't find out anytime soon so instead focussed only on what was happening around him. Soon enough he found himself outside the doors to the Carolina's Sickbay. The doors hissed open and he walked in, with as much purpose as he could muster, which proved to be challenging with a throbbing headache and a neck ache that wouldn't allow drastic movements without flashes of pain. He looked around and saw the Cardassian Physician with her back to him, she appeared to be extremely busy with whatever it was that she was doing. He coughed politely, to which she turned round to answer but stopped very suddenly. Apparantly the shock of seeing him willingly in Sickbay had knocked the words right out of her.
"I have a headache." He said hurriedly. "I was wondering if you could give me anything."

Illito had given Avel the afternoon off to prepare for his departure. Although he had lost most everything when the Scavenger was destroyed and therefore did not have anything to pack, Illito could still tell that he was grateful for it.
After he had left, Illito had quickly become reabsorbed in the sorting and inventorying of medical supplies. She apparently hadn't learned anything from being taken off guard by Lt. Commander Avel's interruption, because she didn't even hear the doors open to let in the most recent patient. When she heard the polite cough, Illito spun around, an apology forming on her lips, only to stay unformed when she saw who she was.
“I have a headache.” Captain Drago said, before she had recovered her poise. “I was wondering if you could give me anything.”
“Yes, of course.” Illito turned back to the shelf she had been organizing, then reached to the one just below it to pick up her medical tricorder. “If you've like to have a seat,” she said, gesturing to a biobed. She saw the Captain so rarely, and his medical records were shrouded in a rather large question mark, that she wanted to make sure that this wasn't a sign of something more serious.
Fortunately her scans came up empty of any of that, and Illito gave him the medication for his headache. “Your headache should clear up within five minutes,” she said, all professionalism now that she had recovered from the shock. “Was that all?”
