Luke massaged his neck slightly where the hypospray had been administered. And was about to thank the Doctor kindly before leaving when she spoke again.
"Your headache should clear up within five minutes... Was that all?"
Luke couldn't decide whether there was a 'tone' behind that question. He would take a guess at yes, there was. But it wasn't as if he could complain. He would take a 'tone' with someone who had generally spent the better part of year avoiding professional contact with them and then suddenly one day turned up complaining of a headache.
"I think that will be all for now thank you." He replied, with as much dignity as he could summon. Which was challenging considering he was in a slackened version of the duty uniform and had just got medicine for a headache. "Unless you have time to fit in a physical?" He paused and tried to ignore the stunned look on Commander Tintagel's face, had he been this awkward a CO? "I, of course, refused to participate in one on my return to Active Duty and wish to be tested. Completely."
<TAG Illito>
Luke nodded. "I understand, I am in no hurry for the results, within the next couple of days will be fine." He stared at his feet that swung gently as he had perched himself on the edge of a biobed. "I believe I should briefly inform you of one or two things to save time however." It was now impossible to gauge her reaction. Was she happy, or annoyed? Perhaps it had been good to see Luke again, even get to know him again. The more innocent, naive part of himself was allowed to resurface. Perhaps he was willing to try trust again?
<TAG Illito>
"Well, my left hand is a posytronic replacement... Your scans will not discover much I'm afraid." He stopped himself, aware that he may sound a little pompous. "It was replace after a battle I fought some years ago..." Or from now, he thought. "And I also reguarly inject nano probes to my temple to prevent myself from going blind due to an accident many years ago whilst serving on the Tiger Shark. However, that knowledge can be found on my medical profile... Other than that everything should be as normal, bar a few cuts and scrapes over the years. So what do we do now? It's been quite some time since I even considered one of these exams."

Parsons left the ready room with more questions than answers, but he was glad to have the Captain back and trusted his judgment.
"Ensign, what is our current heading," the still Acting Captain asked upon entering the bridge.
"Our current heading is Earth, Commander, as Captain Drago ordered," replied the junior Conn officer.
"Very good," Adam said taking the Captain's chair. "Maintain course and speed."
Captain Drago walked through the bridge a moment later on his way to a turbolift. "Captain," Parsons inquired curious about Drago's destination.
Luke said something about heading to sickbay, and Adam turned to watch the Captain enter the turbolift. "Sickbay?" The Acting CO said quizzically, but Drago did not respond. The turbolift doors had already closed. It was unlike Captain Drago, or any Starfleet captain for that matter, to voluntarily go to sickbay.

Illito's surprise at seeing Captain Drago had mostly abated, when he offered to let her do a physical. Illito had thought about asking him for one, but had decided against it, as she didn't want to make her CO reluctant to come to sickbay. So, when he offered, she was surprised and pleased. βOf course I have time,β Illito said, finally separating enough from her distracted thoughts to smile at Captain Drago, since he really was making her job much easier.
βThere isn't a particular impetus for your request, is there?β Illito asked. βBecause the results won't be immediately available.β
Captain Drago said that would be fine, and mentioned that he'd like to make her aware of a few things. Illito nodded for him to continue, wondering if she ought to, for the sake of appearances, be making notes on a PADD. She decided that since she would remember everything, she could write it down later. It would save her from having to juggle a PADD with the rest of her equipment.
Illito appreciated being told about Captain Drago's injuries. She was familiar with them some from his medical report, but she liked being directly informed of them, rather than having to hope past records were complete. For one, Drago's obviously weren't.
βIf you don't mind, I'd like to run a few tests on your reflexes with your posytronic hand.β Illito said. It wasn't a normal part of the physical, but then, the main goal of the physical was to identify any health issues and to help in the treatment of any future issues. And although Illito couldn't hope to understand the mechanics of the posytronics, she did hope to be able to identify if it started acting differently
While they were doing that, Illito asked Drago a few questions about his eyesight and the nanobots he used to make it functional. βDue to the amount of time it has been since your last full physical,β and the nature of some of your injuries, Illito didn't say, βI'm going to run a few extra tests. They shouldn't take long, though,β she continued, adjusting some settings on her medical tricorder as she talked.
Illito had never been great at talking to people and keeping them at ease while she worked, and she was made more uneasy by the fact that this was her Captain, and a rather mysterious person at that. βWhat are we going to be doing on Earth?β she asked, and regretted saying almost immediately, and looked down quickly at her tricorder readings.

After a few weeks, the South Carolina arrived on Earth, the crew still unsure of their mission. There were changes in crew assignments. Parsons was the Executive Officer, but still officially designated Acting Captain. He wondered why Captain Drago had not resumed these duties when he came on board, but he was even more perplexed now. The Captain had transported down to Starfleet Headquarters shortly after their arrival. If Drago had told any of the crew their reason for returning to Earth, or the Captain's immediate business on Earth, it was not known to Parsons.
The ship's Acting First Officer had been transfered, so that position was not currently filled. Commander Kirk was next in line due to his rank and position as the ship's second officer. Illito was still dutifully running sickbay, but Commander Apirana had been transfered from his position as Chief Science officer and had left the South Carolina.
Major Hunter and his marine detachment had also been reassigned. Parsons hoped they would be replaced before the ship departed from Earth's orbit. Commander Daya was still the Chief of Security, but his presence had been requested by Starfleet Security, and he left the ship with the Captain. Perhaps Daya knew why they were back at the Federation Capital, Adam wondered to himself.
Lieutenant Anderson had also been reassigned, so the South Carolina was also currently without a Chief of Operations. There was also a rumor that the ship would be getting a new Chief Conn Officer. Adam didn't like having so many empty senior officer positions, and he certainly didn't like an incomplete chain of command, even if they were in Earth orbit.
"Parsons to Engineering."
"Engineering here," the Chief Engineer answered.
"Commander Kirk, please report to the bridge."

Illito wasn't hugely impressed by Earth. Of course, she wasn't on the planet, just on the South Carolina, in orbit of it. But still, Earth didn't mean anything more to her than, say, Andoria. Except that she wouldn't ever want to visit Andoria, because she'd probably freeze within a few minutes, but she didn't mind Earth as much. After all, this was where she'd done the majority of her Starfleet training.
Since it didn't seem that people in general were encouraged to leave the ship, not that Illito cared terribly, she worked on whatever she did when she was really bored: inventorying the supplies on the ship. Illito had long held the position that inventory was a continuous process, and she didn't really mind going through the supplies and verifying that she had what she thought she did. It was a habit that she was frequently thankful for.
Having done as much inventorying as she could handle at the moment, Illito kind of wanted to hang out with someone, but most of her friends were either gone or leaving. Illito decided to stop off at her quarters to change from her uniform to civilian clothing, and then she walked to the equivalent of the Scavenger's twelve-forward on this ship. Illito didn't see anyone she really knew, so she got her cup of honey ginger tea and sat down at an empty table to enjoy it.

Kirk came onto the bridge and stood in front of Parsons, who was seated in the command chair. "Commander, lets step into the ready room," Parsons state before leading Jon into the Captain's office.
The two officers sat, "Jon, I have just received a message from Captain Drago. We are to prepare the ship for a handover to a skeleton crew, who will return her to the Omicron shipyard, where she will again be dry-docked (it was a term that seemed archaic in an age of starships, but an appropriate one). The two men briefly discussed their frustration with this order. Parsons was unable to say much more, as information seemed to be coming on a need-to-know basis, and either Captain Drago or Starfleet Command had determined that, for the time being, Commander Parsons did not need to know.
Parsons thought about calling a staff meeting, but since Illito and Jon were the only two department heads left aboard, there was little point. Instead Adam made his way from the ready room down to sickbay to break the news to Illito.

Whilst the South Carolina was being preped for its return to the Omicron Shipyards pretty much all of the crew were making the most of their time at Earth for some R and R. It felt to many as if they were being punished for the loss of the Scavenger and that they may never get a ship of their own again. Their biggest fear was that the crew would be broken up and assigned to other ships or outposts throughout the Federation.
Lieutenant Latat was on duty at the Operations console. He was a veteran of Section 47 although had only been assigned to the Scavenger crew recently. As such he had less affinity for the ship they had lost and the fact that the only ship they did have was now being put back into mothballs. He wasnt particularly good at his job but he had no doubt Starfleet would find him an assignment somewhere.
The operations console of the South Carolina was not exactly state of the art in many regards it could be considered archaic but it still served its purpose and dutifully informed him of an incoming priority call.
"Sir We have a call from Starfleet Command"
Parsons looked round,
"For?"
"The Captain and you."
"Very good Mister Latat pipe through to the Ready Room." Parsons rose and went to the Captains day room.
"A call from Starfleet" he told Luke as he entered.
Luke merely nodded and pulled up a chair for Parsons and activated the screen. The spinning Starfleet Logo was replaced by the pig like face of Admiral Stav.
"Captain Drago, Admiral Stav of Fleet Operations here"
Luke looked at Adam, a small smile playing across his lips. Everyone knew who 'Piggy Stav' was. Were he Tellarite and not human he may have been considered quite handsome.
"What can I do for you Sir" Luke replied courtously
"I ve had Admiral Magellan on the line to me. He wants you back in Section 47 space as soon as possible."
"Is that a problem?" Luke asked sensing the tone of the Admiral.
Stav grunted, "For us maybe. The Nova class vessel we had prepared for you is barely ready and your way understaffed. Still that officious Trill wants you back on patrol ASAP. So we letting you take the ship early."
A broad grin lit Lukes face,
"Whats she called."
"Called!" Stav barked with a laugh, "Thats the least of your worries. Her internals arent finsihed yet she hasnt even had her second coat of paint. And the bridge lacks a carpet. Whoever heard of leaving Spacedock without a carpet."
Luke neglected to remind that Admiral that during the Dominion War some ships were lucky to leave with only the carpet missing. Hundreds of ships, bare skeletons had been rushed into action.
"The name plate is blank. You can sort that out back at Starbase Assailant. Because its so new and...unfinished you ll have a contingent of 5 Starfleet Engineers to get you home. You can take command in 2 days. And for gods sake Drago dont lose this one. Stav out."

βChief Engineersβ Personal Log,β Kirk said in opening as he paced his quarters, βStarfleet has instructed Commander Parsons to gather up all the department heads and made the necessary preparations to hand over the South Carolina to a new skeleton crew as she will be going back into dry-dock. It was my formal recommendation to Starfleet as Chief Engineer that this vessel is space worth and functional, not at all needing a refit that would bring her into dry-dock.β Kirk began to pace some more, now this time at a heightened pace, βI have received word through private channels that the Borg as making small but noticeable pushes in the outer regions of Section 47. I do not know if it was Starfleetβs intention to staff a number of former Borg drones out this far from Earth, maybe so we could not do much harm if another direct attack came, but the truth is that I can hear and feel the anti-Borg movement growing. Rumors fly around space faster than the universe is expanding, and I hear that a number of higher-ranking Starfleet personnel are going to be removed from their very vital positions. I do not know if that will be me, but a Commander, Chief Engineer of a starship, and a former Chief Operations Officer brings what Starfleet calls a βrisk to securityβ when it comes to the Borg.β
Kirk paused to pick up a glass of water. He takes the sip but his mind isnβt really on the water, it is on what he wants to put down next in his personal log.
βI have been told there is a ship out there that will still accept transfers and will still use former drones. I am told she is called the USS Wolf. I cannot find much about her, but maybe that is for the best. Coincidence or not, the Wolf will be departing the day that we arriveβ¦I think I am going to take that transfer. Until then, I will continue to do my duties aboard this ship as I have done them before. I will talk to nobody with the exception of my superiors with regards to work related material. I will remain closed off and isolated until I get to the bottom of this movement that wishes to remove all former Borg drones form not only Starfleet, but the Federation as well. Fear is growing and spreading like a wild fire, I do not know if this fear can be squashed in time, but time will tell. End log.β

Adam had given the news to Illito in Sickbay. She had appeared to take it quite well, but she was a hard person to read for the Acting Captain. Maybe it was because she was Cardassian, or perhaps it was just that Adam had not served with her long enough. He hoped to remedy that if they were assigned to serve together again.
Parsons returned to the bridge and sat in the command chair only a moment when he was called into the Captain's day room. Luke had returned to the ship and the two senior officers had a call from Admiral Stav at Starfleet Command.
Luke looked at Adam, a small smile playing across his lips, when Admiral Stav's appeared on the screen. Parsons smirked back for only a second until he reminded himself it was a two way communique.
Adam listened as Luke and Stav spoke. And Stav continued, "...The Nova class vessel we had prepared for you is barely ready and your way understaffed.
By this time Parsons also had a large grin on his face. So was what Luke had been up to. Getting the crew a new Nova Class. Adam felt a huge sense of relief and excitement at the thought of settling in to a new ship with the remaining Scavenger crew. They had been like nomads wondering through the Federation and now they would finally have a home again.
As soon as Stav was gone from the screen, Parsons congratulated the the Captain on his new command. "I don't know how you managed it, Luke, but the crew is going to be relieved."
Adam and Luke chatted for a bit before the XO returned to the bridge and began making preparations while Luke made the shipwide announcement of the reassignment of the crew to the new Nova Class ship. They were to hand over the South Carolina and get transfered over to the new ship as soon as possible.

Illito enjoyed her break, but not as much as she would have if she had someone to talk to. So it wasn't long before she returned to sickbay, there to find Captain Parsons. At least she thought it was still Captain. Illito wished someone would clarify this command structure, because it would make things much easier to handle if she knew who she was supposed to look to for orders.
Illito was informed that the South Carolina was being returned to the Omicron shipyards for drydocking, news that didn't really surprise her. Not because she had predicted it would happen, but more because she couldn't really see enough how this mattered or changed much, and therefore failed to surprised by it. The way she saw it, either a ship was like a homeβin which case Illito hadn't been on the South Carolina long enough to form any kind of emotional attachmentβor a ship was...just another place. And if the crew was broken up, it wasn't like there was much of a crew left anyway.
The announcement from Captain Drago that the crew was being reassigned to a yet-unnamed Nova Class ship was met with a nod from Illito. Since this was supposed to be done as soon as possible, Illito started gathering up and organizing the sickbay for her departure and transfer. She didn't have much to do regarding that, since most supplies came standard with all Federation ships, and she hadn't had the time to make changes. But she has even less to do in her room, so she finished them both quickly.
Then, without anything else to do, she made her way to the bridge, so she would be around if she was needed.

Parsons was busy organizing the transfer from the bridge. Department heads and, in most cases, acting department heads were shepherding their teams between the South Carolina and the new ship. Things were going relatively smoothly and surprisingly quickly. Of course, the crew had not really settled into the South Carolina, so it was easier to uproot and move to another ship than it would have been from a permanent posting like the Scavenger. The Engineering Department was completely moved out and was busily working with the five newly assigned Starfleet engineers on the finishing touches of the new Nova Class vessel.
Adam agreed with Captain Drago, it was unsettling moving onto a ship with no name. Over the past day, Luke had begun calling the ship the Salvezza informally. The XO understood that it meant salvation in some ancient Earth language, and it seemed appropriate for a temporary name.
As the first officer pondered this, the Chief Medical Officer made her way onto the bridge. "Doctor," Adam greeted her.
"Captain Parsons," Illito responded.
"Not that I mind those two words in such close proximity, but I think it's safe to address me as Commander again," Parsons said with a smile. Captain Drago has been officially assigned command of the Salvezza, um, the new Nova Class vessel and I have been assigned first officer. It seems my days as acting captain have come to an end for now."

Acting Ensign Gheskori was still trying to fit the computer panel to the wall, and was once again witness to the panel falling to the floor, there was an almighty clatter as it agonisingly slipped loose and hit the deck hard. The Denobulan looked down at the disobeying panel, looking at it, almost coaxing it to stay where it was supposed to stay. Putting his hands on his hips he looked around the room. There were several Starfleet personnel in the room, all installing bits and pieces of equipment, dragging large trolleys around, searching through strapped pouches slung over their shoulders, for tools and, and.. whatever else they needed to finish the ship's construction.
Gheskori and all these construction workers were in a science lab, and Gheskori was to be the Science officer. In typical Denobulan fashion he was rushing around, making sure all the workers installed a certain mass spectrometer in one fashion, a laser in another. He made them pay special attention to the new Quantum Microscope, it was an extremely high-tech, extremely new piece of kit, engineered and manufactured on Denobula but most importantly, it was his.
This coupled with the fact that two crewmen had nearly dropped it off the edge of the repulsor lift, en route to the Main Laboratory the previous day, meant that Gheskori was stressing over it even more than he would have normally.
So, the new Science officer of the... 'new ship' went to try and attach the wall panel to the wall once more. There were small catch-like things, that being the technical term, on the edges of the panel. It was meant to hook in, and then the optic fibres would automatically seal themselves to those of the wall itself, therefore making it easy to put together such portable devices. Hmm, if I attach the top catches first it might be easier.... he was on to something. Borrowing a small stool so he could reach, Gheskori attached the top of the panel first.. and subsequently, easily slotted the rest of it in.
He smiled in satisfaction, got down from the stool and dusted his hands off, pleased with his ingenuity. He went to go and keep an eye on the work-crew but something caught his eye. He stopped. It was a Starfleet Commander. "Ah, are you Commander Parsons?" Gheskori asked. The man nodded. "In that case.. I am your new Science officer, Acting Ensign Gheskori reporting..."
Commander Parsons looked around the half completed lab. Gheskori noticed. "Yes, Commander. As you can see the construction work is not quite done.. did you need anything sir..?"

Commander Parsons continued to oversee the finishing touches of the Salvezza. As he did so, he wondered through the various decks of the ship and found himself entering the science labs. Adam looked around at the work going on in the labs and noticed a Denobulan Ensign in a science uniform.
"Ah, are you Commander Parsons?" the Ensign asked. Adam nodded, "Indeed I am."
"In that case.. I am your new Science officer, Acting Ensign Gheskori reporting..."
Parsons smiled and nodded his head once again, "Very good, Mr. Gheskori. I was hoping to bump into you. Looks like things are underway here," the Commander said looking around. "Is there anything you need?"

"Very good, Mr. Gheskori. I was hoping to bump into you. Looks like things are underway here," the Commander said looking around. "Is there anything you need?"
The new Science officer thought about it, "No," he said, "No I don't think so sir. I have been aboard a while now, I believe I have learnt everything I need at least for now."
Gheskori asked if his new XO needed anything, the answer to which was he did not. "When you get a chance, wonder up to the bridge and I will introduce you to Captain Drago." Parsons then left the Science Lab, presumably thought Ghes, heading back to the bridge. He would head up there himself soon, as per Parsons' request.
Then naturally scouting around the lab, Ghes had to 'forcibly instruct' some workers to prevent his prized microscope from hitting the deck. Once everything was under control, he stepped back and exhaled slowly, he could see his time here entailing a great many interesting events.
Leaving Denobula had not been difficult, Ghes had easily adapted to his new surroundings, and had already made new friends and gained many accomplices. This was all in the nature of Denobulans, they relished new sensations, new ideas... Limitless, eccentric curiosity. It was a defining characteristic of the species.
Gheskori walked onto the bridge, he already knew the layout as he had been aboard for a deal longer than any of the crew transferring from the South Carolina, and was used to the 'extremely unfinished' look that the bridge still held. He instantly spotted Commander Parsons standing beside an officer who was clearly his superior, the Captain. After a minute of standing beside the Science station studying the new crew, Gheskori was called over. He lifted a smile to his face, and made his way across the bridge.

The loss of the Scavenger had hit Paikea especially hard and it had taken him a very long time to accept that this part of his life was completely gone forever. It took some professional help to help Paikea realize this and now that his treatment was complete he was ready to return to active duty. His first and only choice was Section 47 and the ship commanded by Captain Luke Drago. His doctor's recommended against it, but Paikea wouldn't have it any other way.
"We are approaching Starbase Assailant, Commander," the pilot of the shuttle reported.
"Good, do you know where the new Nova class ship is docked?" Paikea asked.
"No sir, though not many people want to get close to it, its bad luck to have an unnamed ship," the pilot said.
"I know, but I'm sure that her captain has given her a pet name by now," Paikea said with a smile. This new ship would be a brand new beginning for him.
"The ship is docked right over there," the pilot said as he pointed to the shiny Nova class ship. The ship immediately reminded him of the Scavenger, but there were some notable differences.
"This ship will be able to throw a punch or two," Paikea said counting all the launchers," I wonder what else has changed."

Gheskori was happy to be assigned to a Nova class. Boasting a crew of a mere eighty, it was not the most potentially diverse opportunity the Denobulan had been presented with but, it was sufficient to his needs and purposes. The ship may provide a good stepping stone, small leaps were important in order to gain experience, before making the bigger jumps up the social ladder. Besides, a small crew would give the ship a... family feel to their many adventures ahead. Family was important after all.
The Captain had disappeared into his ready room, which was also half completed. The first officer was keeping himself busy handling the crew transfer from the South Carolina. Ghes understood that the core of the ship's crew were being kept together, but obviously a great deal of the old ship's crew would not be joining. There were also thirty to forty new crew members, Ghes being among them of course.
The Denobulan headed to the turbolift, intent on overseeing the construction of his Science Lab. A male human Ensign jumped into the lift just after Ghes had ordered the destination and just before the doors slid shut. Ghes couldn't help but to notice that the Ensign wore a blue collared uniform, he turned towards the Ensign slightly as the turbolift tunnelled its way through the ship and smiled. "Greetings," he said.
"Hello."
"Are you in the Science department?" Ghes asked.
The Ensign nodded, "And you are my new boss."
"That is correct, Ensign." Ghes was instantly pleased that the young Ensign knew who he was, he happened to raise one of his hands in glee, it was an involuntary movement. The Ensign took it as an invitation for a hand-shake and promptly shook his Ghes's hand. Quickly pulling his hand loose, Ghes stepped back uncomfortably. Obviously the Ensign did not know that Denobulans hated to be touched by people they were not... intimate, with. "Please don't do that again," Ghes said in a subdued tone, "My species don't like physical contact."
Ensign Harwell, as he turned out to be called, was impressively quick to apologise.
They both got off the lift next to the Science Labs and once inside, Gheskori started briefing the Ensign on how he expected the lab to be kept during his tenure as its chief.

Even though he was serving aboard a brand new ship, Paikea was pleased to see that the yet to be named ship was being manned by old Scavenger crew. Even better was the response he received once they realized that he had returned. Paikea realized that he would need to become accustomed to the role of Chief Security and Tactical officer but he was positive that he would pick it up rather quickly.
"Paikea! Is that you?" his former assistant asked clearly surprised to see him.
"Zack, I hoped you were still around," Paikea said as he turned to face his friend and former apprentice," you know that I couldn't stay away from you guys."
"I know, though I see you weren't able to get your old position back," Zack said making sure to mention the yellow vest around Pai's shoulders," I haven't met him yet, but I know that he is a Denobulan and apparently has a great mind for science. Maybe better than yours."
"Hopefully he is," Paikea said," but I will have to ask me to lend me a lab or two. I still have a few experiments going since the Scavenger."
"You've been working on them for three years now, do you think you'll ever finish?" Zack asked as he started walking alongside Paikea.
"Yeah, I've already submitted some of my results to the Science Council and some of my work has already been implemented aboard Federation ships," Paikea replied not able to hide his pride in his work. In his report, Pai had made sure to give credit to his science team, which included Zack, for making it happen.
"Why don't you go see him now?" Zack asked as the pair reached the turbolift," he's new to the ship and I don't think he's really met any of the senior staff."
"See you sometimes have a good idea," Pai said jokingly," I think he just might keep you around. If he doesn't I'll give you a job in my department."
"Thanks but no thanks," Zack said laughing," I don't know anything about tactical systems and you know that I hate holding weapons."
"I know, but sometimes we have to do things we don't like," Paikea said becoming serious for a moment. The last few months aboard the Scavenger were tumultuous to say the least. The trip to the 'Mirror Universe' caused demons inside Paikea to resurface. The things that he did still haunted him to this day.
"Things are better now, Pai," Zack said as he told the computer to take them to the science labs," I doubt that HQ will send us anywhere really dangerous anytime soon."
"I hope you're right, my friend," Paikea said offering him a small smile.
"Well, this is where we depart," Zack said," I'm still on duty and I have to get back to work. The main science lab is down that corridor to the right."
"Alright, I'll see you later," Paikea said as he walked towards the main science lab. He didn't know how he was going to feel towards the new Science officer, but he was going to give him a fair shot. As he walked, Pai was pleasantly surprised to see that the young officer had the foresight to inform his people how things would be running in his lab.
"Hello Ensign Gheskori, I'm Paikea Apirana, the ship's chief tactical and security officer," Pai said remembering that Denobulan's refrained from physical contact," I understand this is your first assignment in the fleet."

Commander Parsons stood on the bridge speaking with Captain Drago about the transfer as he noticed Ensign Gheskori at the Science station. Adam turned to get the Captain's attention, but Drago was stepping through the doorway to his readyroom. Parsons turned back to Gheskori in time to see him step into the turbolift, followed by one of his junior science officers.
The introduction of the new Chief Science Officer to the Captain would have to wait, the ship was ready to get underway. The materials need to finish the ship were now either onboard or waiting at Starbase Assailant. "All hands prepare for departure," Adam announced.
"Captain, we are ready to go," the XO dutifully reported over the comm to the Captain, who was still in his readyroom.
"Very well, Commander, take her out."
Parsons looked at the young officer manning the Conn, "You heard the Captain, Ensign, take us out."
"Aye Aye, Sir," the junior officer responded.
* * *
During the journey, the Captain rarely left his readyroom, and when he did, it was usually going to or from his quarters.
"Captain, we are approaching Starbase Assailant," the Executive Officer announced.
"Alright, Commander, let me know when we have docked."
"Aye, Sir," Parsons responded.
Once the ship had docked and the Captain had been informed, Adam began looking over the manifest of the new crew that were coming aboard at Starbase Assailant.
Parsons saw a familiar name on the manifest, Commander Paikea Apirana. Adam smiled as his eyes stopped on that name. Pai had been with this crew longer than Adam, one of only two remaining senior officers that could boast that, Dr. Tintagel being the other, excluding the Captain of course. It would be good to have Pai back onboard as part of the senior staff. He had been reassigned from Chief Science Officer to Chief Tactical and Security Officer. Adam had never thought of Pai as a tactical officer, but a quick review of his service record showed that he was more than qualified.

"Hello Ensign Gheskori, I'm Paikea Apirana, the ship's chief tactical and security officer, I understand this is your first assignment in the fleet."
"Correct, Commander." Gheskori said after checking the Security chief's rank insignia. He was pleased that the man appeared to know Denobulan culture enough so that he did not try to shake his hand. "I am quite new here, but I'm hoping that I can settle in rapidly.." Something clicked in Gheskori's head. "You were the last Chief Science Officer under Captain Drago, weren't you sir?"
<Tag Paikea>
Ghes had made an effort to check the Science staff of the Scavenger and South Carolina in an effort to get to know some of the people he may be working with. It surprised him slightly that the Science chief would still find his way on to the senior staff, albeit in a much different role.
"So Commander," said Ghes, walking around the Lab, "How do you like the new set-up? Obviously things are different from what you are used to, this being a Nova class ship, but I like my work to be evaluated all the same?"
Apirana seemed impressed, and indicated that that was indeed the case.
"Excellent, thank you sir," Ghes said quickly, "Now if you will excuse me." Ghes moved past the CTSO, into his newly installed office area. It didn't occur to Gheskori at all that his behaviour was a bit unusual for talking to a superior officer, he did not mean to appear ignorant of rank, and he would have been sorry if that was the impression he did give off.

Gheskori's office was looking very bare, Neat though.. he thought as he entered it. There was the fresh smell of recently installed furniture, factory-new carpet. The clean, brushed, table and the comfortable looking chair.. The whole place leaked the word, 'new'. He sat in the seat and leant back, enjoying the comfort. There were only two things upsetting this perfect environment, but these were not altogether bad things. Two PADDs, lying on the desk one on top of each other. Ghes sat forward and picked one of them up and saw that it was the lab duty roster. He was pleased, it would give him a point of reference in his upcoming adventure of getting to know everyone on the ship.
It was at this point that Gheskori felt the ship slip into warp speed. Ghes took a moment to search the desk for the controls for intraship communication, and upon finding the appropriate buttons, pressed one of them, =/\=Bridge, Science Department=/\= he said, =/\=All systems operational, you have a fully functional Science department at your disposal sir.=/\=
Ghes thought it was only proper for his department to report full readiness, now that the ship was sitting in a bubble of warped space, dashing across the galaxy.

"I am quite new here, but I'm hoping that I can settle in rapidly.." Something clicked in Gheskori's head. "You were the last Chief Science Officer under Captain Drago, weren't you sir?"
"Yes Ensign, I was the Chief Science Officer for almost three years," Paikea said smiling as some great memories came flooding back. Not wanting to be rude Pai continued with the small talk.
"So Commander," said Ghes, walking around the Lab, "How do you like the new set-up? Obviously things are different from what you are used to, this being a Nova class ship, but I like my work to be evaluated all the same?"
"Actually, Ensign the Scavenger was a lot like Nova's," Paikea said," her principle job was to conduct scientific research but the current situation in the quadrant hasn't allowed us to do any serious experimentation. Though I have to admitt that I'm extremely impressed with these science labs."
"Excellent, thank you sir," Ghes said quickly, "Now if you will excuse me."
Pai kindly excused himself and walked back out of the science lab. He was positive that he was going to like the new Science officer even though he was a tad overly confident of himself. Paikea knew this feeling, he himself had come to the Scavenger confident and prideful, but the job would teach him really fast.
Knowing that it was time to meet with Captain Drago and Commander Parsons, Paikea headed towards the nearest lift. He was sure that they had already been informed of his return. As he waited to arrive on the bridge, Pai remembered the last time they were all together. They were reflecting on the loss of the Scavenger and the people that had lost their lives in the defense of the great ship.
"Computer halt lift, sickbay please?" Paikea said scolding himself for not remembering about the last original member of the Scavenger. Doctor Illito Tintagel, the only Cardassian that Paikea had ever trusted, was still the chief medical officer. Her experience and guideance had always been welcomed by Paikea.
"Excuse me Lieutenant, where exactly is sickbay?" Paikea asked not exactly sure where sickbay was.
"It's over there sir, pass that cooridor," the ensign replied quickly.
"Thank you," Paikea said as he picked up the pace and quickly entered the brand new sickbay," it's nice to see someone familiar, Illito."

Illito answered Parsons' questions politely, affirming that everything was fine, and that she was quite ready for the transfer. The ship, the Salvezza, she understood it was going to be called, was rough, and it didn't look quite ready for a crew. And it was small.
Illito hadn't that much to do on the South Carolina, but that was hardly the case on this new ship. She was holding a PADD in her hand trying to do an inventory and working on getting at least one of the biobeds set up prior to any major injuries, at the same time she was attempting to correlate past records of new crewmates.
βIt's nice to see someone familiar, Illito.β Illito looked up from her work, to see Pai standing there. She must have somehow missed the notice that he would be rejoining them. But she thought there was a new science officer on board.
Illito's thoughts ran their course as she set down her PADD and retreated a little from the biobed, so she wasn't crowding over it. She smiled widely at Pai. βThat it is. Welcome back.β

Commander Parsons reviewed the information on the PADD given him by Captain Drago. The Captain was now meeting with his superiors on Assailant. Adam looked up from the PADD and over to the command console located on the arm of the Captain's chair in which he was seated. A button was pressed and a shipwide communications channel was openned.
"Attention, this is Commander Parsons. There will be a meeting of all senior staff in the conference room in one hour. That is all."
The XO closed the channel and leaned back in the chair.

"Attention, this is Commander Parsons. There will be a meeting of all senior staff in the conference room in one hour. That is all."
Ghes had been calmly reviewing the lab duty roster in his office when Commander Parson's call had come through. He looked in the direction of where he thought the XO's voice had been coming from - in truth he had no idea what the actual location of the invisible speakers was - and pondered for the moment. He hadn't yet met the Captain and had yet to hear his voice, Ghes suspected that their was change in the air of the old Scavenger senior staff. Not the least with a brand new Denobulan joining their staff. Although his status as 'senior' was somewhat debatable, half of the science department were of higher rank than him.
The science chief returned to his work with the roster. Being a ship of low numbers, the ship had few assigned to the science department, no more than twenty five in all. And this is meant to be a ship geared towards scientific research.. Ghes thought. In reality, it was, the percentage of science officers to the rest of the crew was higher than the norm.
After another twenty minutes, Gheskori returned to his quarters for a break before the senior staff gathering. He had been on the ship for little more than a week, and was by now well settled in in his new home. It was typical for Denobulans to be able to adapt to new environments easier than other species. Sighing, Ghes removed his starfleet uniform, it still felt odd to wear. He didn't know why, usual Denobulan attire wasn't exactly luxurious. He threw it into the recycler, swapping it for a new, freshly pressed one.
Before donning the blue collared black and grey uniform, Ghes lay down on his bed that he had decided to keep. He wasn't going to sleep now, that was suicidal considering the upcoming meeting. But he was actually feeling tired and did feel another sleep coming on, the last time he slept was two weeks ago.

Parsons sat staring at the orders on the PADD as the senior staff filtered into the conference room. Acting Ensign Gheskori was present as head of the science department. Gheskori's rank was a bit deceiving. Although his experience in Starfleet was limited, he was a well respected scientist on Denobula. Parsons knew the Acting Ensign rank would be temporary and looked forward to the day when the new science chief would have a rank more commensurate with his position and one that would be more on par with the ranks of his peers on the senior staff.
Also present was the new Chief Tactical and Security Officer, Commander Apirana, though Pai was certainly not new to the ship. Seated nearby was the Chief Medical Officer, Doctor Tintagel.
The senior staff was filled out by the Assistant Chief Engineer, as Commander Kirk was currently on special assignment, and two junior officers that were running the Navigation and Operations departments.
Adam looked up at the group gathered before him. "My primary reason for calling this meeting, is to inform you that Captain Drago has been reassigned. I do not know the details, but I am in command as Acting Captain until further notice. It is my hope that we will have a new Captain by the time we leave space dock. Also, I have been informed that the naming of this vessel has been delayed and she has been assigned the temporary designation of USS Scavenger. You have all done a fantastic job getting this ship put together, and I know you will all give me your best in finishing the job."
"Any questions?"

Ghes had been waiting patiently for ten minutes in the briefing room when staff had eventually started to file in. The Denobulan had just learned of his field promotion to Lieutenant Junior Grade, but had yet to be presented with the appropriate rank pips, he would have to make do with the single black pip for the time being. Besides, what was rank on a ship like this? The small complement of crew would surely provide a family atmosphere that no amount of rank hierarchy could overcome.
At last, Commander Parsons stepped into the room, it didn't even occur to Ghes that Captain Drago was absent.
Parsons soon reminded him of that issue by announcing the reassignment of the Captain. "... You have all done a fantastic job getting this ship put together, and I know you will all give me your best in finishing the job," the XO finished speaking.
"Any questions?" He added.
One question immediately sprang into Ghes's head, but he at first refrained from asking it. He wished to see the others' reactions, and what they might say. When nothing was forthcoming, except for a few pensive stares, and tapping of fingers on the desk, Ghes spoke up.
"I think the first question on our minds Commander is.. who is to be the Commanding Officer of this new ship?"
<Tag Parsons>
It appeared that his new life in Starfleet, a career move that he had carefully considered, and assessed for the benefits it would give to him in terms of expansion of knowledge as well as the accompanying social perks, was off to a false start. Nothing can be perfect, he sighed to himself.
