The blood rushed in his ears as he crouched silently behind dumpster in the alley. His breath came in short fast snatches his chest heaving heavily. One hand helped stabilise him in his position whilst the other was gripped knuckle white on the short iron bar he had managed to find on the ground beside him.
Footsteps approached and then paused, what could only have been metres away. He struggled to control his rising fear knowing that everything could end in the next few minutes. Silence. Risking a quick glance he could see his three pursuers a little way down the alley. The Vulcan, Trill and Andorian were methodically working their way towards him, weapons in hand.
There was no way his iron bar could stop them, he doubted that even if he had a charged phaser it would be possible. He shook his head ruefully, he had always imagined that it would have been Magellan that would have ended his life not these things. Taking a deep breath he knew that he had one last chance. The appartment he sought was just a block away. Leaping to his feet he hurled the bar in their direction and then ran for the main street.
***
It was late and Laurana wished that she had not taken on the extra appointment that evening. Since the attack on the Caves of Mak'ala some two years ago life as a Guardian had become more involved. The symbionts were still recovering from a devesatating terrorist attack even before the Parasites had tried to take over the Symbiosis Commission. Now in the ever tense galactic situation more and more trill were applying for joining and she was spending endless hours speaking to the initiates and liasing with suitable symbiotes.
Wearily she exited the local transporter station and headed towards her appartment. It was quiet tonight with only a handful of people out on the street. A skimmer or two passed, thier low pitched whines echoing around her as she crossed the road. She was nearly to her door when a man barged into her from behind. She pulled herself to one side but the man grabbed hold of her as he slumped to the floor. "Laurana" he gasped, Amazed and concerned that the dishevlled human knew her name Laurana recoiled a little, worried this was some kind of attack. The man, now on the pavement looked about him fearfully, "No time." he wheezed reaching into his pocket, it was then Laurana noticed the red and black stain on his back. It oozed blood whilst its edge was cauterised the fabric of his jacket fused to the skin beneath. "Your hurt" she exclaimed bending beside him, He shook his head, "I m dead. This" he shoved a blood stained PaDD into her hands. "Magellan get this to him" She took the PaDD gingerly, "Go" he urged "Go now" Behind her she noticed three men exit an alleyway. Each carried some kind of energy weapon. They saw her instantly beside the dying human and broke into a run. Panic seized her and she scrambled to her feet and ran towards the transporter. There was a hiss and the sensation of heat as a orange light flashed past her head. They were shooting at her, she thought increduously. She reached the transporter terminal and keyed in a secure location. No one without the right codes could enter the caves of Mak'ala. The men were gaining ground and their shots were getting closer. She finished entering the co-ordinates and programmed it to wipe them after transport. Stepping on to the pad she activated the terminal and disappeared from the street. Leaving the three men in silent communication over the now dead body of the human man.

As soon as Laurana rematerialised on the main transporter pad inside the reception building of the Cave of Makala she felt better. There was something calmingly reassuring about the restricted confines of the pools and the symbionts within. It was late and aside from the security guards only a handful of Guardians were on duty.
Unsure exactly what had happened or what she was expected to do she realised that she need to relax and take stock of what had happened. Eschewing the main canteen she opted to enter the caves. She changed quickly into her guardian clothing and went to the milky white pools that filled the various caverns of the caves.
Slipping gently into the tepid waters she was instantly approached by a number of young symbionts that circled here gently probing her with electrical discharges. She waded over to the centre of the pool where a raised rock bed formed a kind of underwater bench and sat down, the water lapping up to her shoulders. She closed her eyes and alllowed the emotions of the symbionts soothe her.
Her mind drifted back to the man who had been killed. He had seemed to know her and yet she was certain she had never met him before. He had obviuosly knew where she lived and now so did his pursuers. That alone caused a shiver to run down her spine. She had seen death before, when Magellan and a team from Assailant had helped fight of the parasites some years before she had seen people she had known and trusted become completely alien to her and gunned down. This was however different, so visceral. It had happened in front of her. The man had mentioned Magellan, and it was obviuosly important that the PaDD he had thrust at her was equally important.
The PaDD was of standard federation issue, the kind that could be found by the dozen in any home. Unsually when she had activated it the contents were heavily encrypted. She had stashed the PaDD in her locker whilst she sat and thought.
It was obvious she needed to get to Magellan, but wasn't entirely sure how. The mans attackers were all Federation races and so could be anyone. She didnt think they were starfleet but something about them made her shudder, she had a feeling she couldn't trust anyone she hadn't met before.
Nearing despair and beginning to feel trapped in the Pools she suddenly remembered something that Magellan had told her during their last comm call. T Val the Healer on Assailant was coming to Trill for a conference on new Osteoplastic surgery. She was fairly certain the Vuclan would still be on the homeworld somewhere, if so Laurana was sure that she wouldnt be alone and that other trust worthy officers would be with her or she would know what to do, how to get her and the PaDD off world and to Magellan.
Easing herself from the pool she returned to the Reception centre and to her office. She opened up a terminal and began a search on the medical database. The conference was indeed still on and T Val was present. She was staying at a Hotel not far from the Parliament building. Laurana wasnt sure if she dared leave the caves not until she knew she was safe.
She thought a moment and then brought up a comm line. She didnt want to risk an audio message they could be tapped too easily so opted for a text message.
'T'Val. I need your opinion and assistance regarding a matter concerning our mutual friend. Could you meet me at the Caves of Mak'ala as soon as possible? I ll have access passes ready for you at the gate. Guardian Laurana Regarn.'

During the entire day, T'Val had found herself walking from room to room, listening to lecture after lecture. Some of which were very interesting, while others she reasoned she'd heard a few times before, even when it was obvious she couldn't have. Except in those cases she'd heard the lecturer before and found them droning on and on about similar subjects, making their cases look similar in the end, even if the topic of discussion was different.
She had arrived on the Trill homeworld a few days before, without Stuart who had returned to Earth to complete his treatments in regards to his recovering memory. It went painstakingly slow, but at least over the last months he had made some progress, and spent the odd week with her on Assailant.
The last lecture of the day had been interesting enough and she had lingered in he hope to meet with the speaker. Unfortunately, the speaker was unavailable, so she now found herself walking down the path that would take her back to her hotel room. She wasn't hungry yet, and it wasn't really that late or sufficiently late for her to even desire a meal. Yet, it wasn't just herself she now had to think of. She was no longer on her own.
The Vulcan woman permitted a small smile to touch her lips, as she brought her hands down to her abdomen while she walked, carefully picking her pace. She was now a little over four months pregnant, and she really had to be careful as she didn't want to risk losing her baby. Not after the pain and effort it had taken to get as far as becoming pregnant. When she had learned, a little over three weeks ago, she had been estatic.
She looked up as she approached her hotel, and carefully modeled her face into a neutral expression again, even though her eyes kept their happy sparkle. Greeting the lobby manager in passing, she made her way to her quarters and quickly undressed to take a much needed shower.
Only after allowing herself the luxury of a hot, steaming water shower, and the comfortable feel of the pluche robe, did she make her way to the computer terminal. "Display messages," she ordered the computer, frowning to see that a text message was waiting for her.
'T'Val. I need your opinion and assistance regarding a matter concerning our mutual friend. Could you meet me at the Caves of Mak'ala as soon as possible? I ll have access passes ready for you at the gate. Guardian Laurana Regarn.'
"Computer, transfer voice recording to text." She quickly composed a message to tell Laurana that she could be at the caves in an hour. That did mean getting dressed again, and hurrying to the Caves. Sighing, she sent the message and went to dress in simple brown slacks and a wide, thigh-length beige shirt. Comfortable boots went on her feet, as she no longer felt safe walking on the standard issue semi-heels.
An hour later, she presented herself to the gatekeeper. "Doctor T'Val Mercy, an access pass was left for me?"

JP by Magellan and T'Val
Laurana was disturbed from her thoughts by a short comm message from the Gatekeeper announcing the arrival of T'Val. She instructed that the Vulcan Healer should be brought up to see her immediatly.
T'Val found herself ushered through the building, getting no time to look around and get her bearings. "You wished to see me?" she asked, rather unnecessarily as the urgency of the message had been quite clear.
"Yes. Thank you T'Val thank you for coming so quickly. I didn't know who to turn to and then when I rememebred you would be here. Well..."
"How may I help?" the Vulcan asked, stepping closer to the Trill woman.
Laurana gathered herself, and tried to remember that T'Vals abrupt manner was a result of her vulcan identity,"I ve got myself in to a mess. Well not me exactly. I think I m in danger and I need help getting to Magellan. Your the only one on Trill I think I can trust."
The Vulcan doctor inclined her head gently. "What danger do you believe you are exposed to?" she asked, not quite sure if she even wanted to know. "I can take you to Magellan."
"Well to be honest I m not entirely sure. All I know is that a man died asking me to deliver this to Magellan." She said holding up the enrcypted PaDD
"If a man died for a PADD, then it must be important." She studied Laurana. "You are a very public individual, well known on the homeworld. It may prove difficult to get you off-planet." She held up her hand. "Difficult, but not impossible. When can you be ready to leave?"
"Now. " Laurana stated uneqivocally, "I havent dared leave the Caves since the incident."
"Give the PADD to me, no-one will look for it on my body." T'Val offered the rarest of smiles as she reached into her bag, pulling out a hypospray. "You will be very ill, and the only place to treat you, is Assaillant. I will also inject you with something that will render you relatively unrecognisable. I cannot guarantee that it will be painless. Are you ready?" : Laurana looked uncertain "Are you sure? There are plenty of hospitals here on Trill and I know the staff here would insist on a symbiosis commission doctor treat me." She paused and thought, "Do you have your own ship or perhaps access to some trustworthy officers so I can just beam out. I m really not sure I want to risk going outside unless its straight to a ship taking me to SBA"
"I don't" T Val replied "Are you ready for the injection?"
"I m not sure" laurana said "Let me explain" Quickly she retold the whole story and explained how in some way the three men and seemed somewhat off, not quite what they seemed, "I feel safe here. But I have to get this PaDD to Magellan. Do you have no favours you can pull in. You must know some starfleet officers from Section 47 on Trill?"
T'Val looked thoughtful for a moment, then she did smile. "I know there are a few senior staff of several starships here," she replied, "if I recall, a runabout, under command of Commander Jon Park, is delivering more physicians to the conference, and also ferrying diplomats. Except the transporter cannot reach in here, we will have to go out." She paused. "Another option is to slightly alter your appearance. Perhaps add a greener skintone, and pointed ears, to make you appear not wholly Trill?" She paused. "I can go look for them..."
"Sure" Laurana smiled, "A disguise could work. And don't worry about transporting theres a main pad in the admin block, its how I got here in the first place
T'Val nodded. "Do you have a weapon?"
Laurana shook her head, "Since the incident with the parasites no weapons are allowed in the Caves" Sonak says: T'Val handed her hypospray over. "I also have a few strong sedatives for you. If anything, a hypospray makes a very good object to throw with." She also handed a handful of vials over. "I will be back in an hour, will you be safe here?"
"Yes" Laurana nodded, "And T'Val. Thank you"
"It is my duty," the healer replied, bowing lightly. "One hour. Keep yourself safe Laurana. Magellan would not be pleased to learn, if you were to get hurt." She turned and walked back the way she'd come. Once outside, she hurried back into town, searching for Commander Park. As soon as she had found him, she approached the commander. "Sir, I am Healer T'Val Mercy, medic on Starbase Assailant. I need your assistance, it is an emergency, and it involves Admiral Lin."

Jon Park Acting Captain of the starship Nevada sat in his Office on deck one he had spent several weeks out in deep space and was wondering just what Starfleet would have for him next. Jon opened the communique from starfleet and saw the following
"Captain Park I am sorry your first real command was not going the way we all hoped, However i am sending you meet up with some old well lets just say friends. Report to Starbase Assailant when your finished with repairs."
Jon stood and headed to the bridge his second home, "Helm lay in a course for Starbase Assailant and engage at warp 3 until engineering can give me warp 6." The helm did as he requested and then he went back to his office to get up to speed on what was happening.

Several day's later
Jon was sitting in the command chair as the shining starbase was in front of him. Jon stood and said "Hail the starbase." Jon waited until he was told the channel was open. "Starbase Assailant, this is the Starship Nevada requesting permission to dock."
The channel cracked alive "Request granted. Enjoy yourselfs and welcome home." Jon turned to his crew "I am granting Shore leave for the Nevada, Rember that this is only for a few days we have to be at sigma 2 in 14 days."
Hours later Commander Park was walking out of a local Coffee shop on the Planet when a woman, a vulcan woman ran up to him with what looked like worrie on her face. "Sir, I am Healer T'Val Mercy, medic on Starbase Assailant. I need your assistance, it is an emergency, and it involves Admiral Lin." Jon heard this and said "Commander Park at your service lead the way." As they headed the way T'Val came from Park asked. "What happened to the Admiral?"

Ezdreiana was pleased to be back home after a terrible mission on Sigma Iotia. Her report had prevented the Federation Council from accepting their request for membership. The Romulan's involvement was kept from the public record, but Section Admiral Drew and Fleet Admiral Lin and McCormick were made aware of the situation. There would be an inquiry and Ezdreiana could only hope that the attack was not sanctioned by the Empire or the Tal Shiar. Even so Ezdreiana could not help but be angry with the Empire, her most trusted aide was killed and she would never be able to replace such a valued friend.
"Wife, it gives me such joy to see you again," T'Reed, Ezdreiana's Vulcan husband, said as he embarrassed his wife.
"T'Reed, if we were on Vulcan you would never express such emotions," Ezdreiana said as she returned the embrace. Her husband was not the most traditional Vulcan, but as a member of a powerful Vulcan family he didn't need to be. "I was distressed to hear that Percy fell on Sigma Iotia. He will be missed by this house."
"Yes, his parents were most grieved," Ezdreiana said as she sat down on the couch and tried to relax a bit. She had not been back on Trill for some time now. It had been over two years ago and to be frank she hoped it had never happened.
~I since there is something more troubling you Ezdreiana. No matter how hard you tried, we are bonded. You cannot hide your feelings from me~ T'Reed said telepathically to his bond mate.
"I feel that something is very wrong. Mazerk has grown distant and the Vulcan fleet is stretched to thin. I was lucky that the Jefferson had been sent or I'm sure that I would be dead today," Ezdreiana said mixing her emotions and fears into one.
"Do not fret on things that could have been. Mazerk has accepted you into his house. It will bring dishonor to his name if he ignores a fellow solider," T'Reed said as he stroked Ezdreiana's hair," as for my fleet. It's undergoing renovations. They should be ready to rejoin us in a few weeks."
"What of the T'Pol?" Ezdreiana asked knowing full well that T'Reed would never part from his flag ship. If the T'Pol had been a woman, he would have left her long ago for her.
"The T'Pol is docked on Trill. Once you are ready to leave, I will personally escort you back to Assailant," T'Reed said.
"That will make me very happy. Hopefully I will not have to return for a few more weeks," Ezdreiana said as she noticed a stack of padds on the table. "Diplomats never get a break."
"They are of no concern," T'Reed said," a few of them are marked confidential. The others are of no concern."
"Matter of opinion my dear," Ezdreiana said noticing a medical conference on Trill," it seems that there a few Section 47 officers on Trill right now. It seems that T'Val is also on Trill. She is the healer I spoke to you about. She is very skilled."
"I think I will," Ezdreiana said as she stood up and walked into her quarters," computer locate Healer T'Val and inform her that I would like to meet with her at her earliest convenience."
"Affirmative"

T'Val studied the Starfleet commander for a moment. "I do not know if anything happened to Admiral Lin sir," she replied evenly, "however I do require your assistance in transporting someone to him."
With complete disregard to the Vulcan no-touch protocol, she grabbed Park's sleeve and pulled him aside. "A close friend of Admiral Lin is in danger," she explained, "and we require a Starship to get her to him. As soon as possible. I can get her out of her current hiding place within the hour, if you can guarantee swift transport for the both of us to Admiral Lin, then we would be in your debt."
[Tag: Park] (the following is presuming Park agrees to the arrangement/request)
Stealing her way back to where she'd come from, T'Val approached Laurana, her bearing confident and even a touch pleased. "I have arranged transport, we will be met within the hour, are you ready?"
[Tag: Laurana (Magellan)]
== a little later, T'Val's hotel room ==
T'Val returned to her room to gather her belongings, as soon she too would be transported to the waiting vessel. It was by sheer coincidence that her eyes fell on the computer terminal as she hadn't been expecting any calls. Stuart had known she'd be too busy to spend too much time talking to him, even though he was overly concerned for her in her present condition, he did know when not to call.
More was her surprise when a message from Ambassador Ezdreiana was waiting and she wondered what the ambassador wanted. She sent a quick message to Park, indicating that she'd be a little later than planned, but that he and whatever team he had with him, should proceed in whisking Laurana away. A Vulcan generally admitted to one emotion alone, and T'Val was no different. Curiosity killed the cat, Humans often said.
"Ambassador Ezdreiana," she greeted the Trill diplomat, "I do not have much time, how may I be of assistance?"

"Ambassador Ezdreiana," she greeted the Trill diplomat, "I do not have much time, how may I be of assistance?"
"I understand that the medical conference is officially over. I was hoping to ferry you back home to Assailant," Ezdreiana said concerned as to what was bothering the healer. Being married to a Vulcan gave one insight into how they acted and Ezdreiana almost sensed that T'Val wanted the conversation to end quickly,"I do not know if you have already arranged transport, but I can assure you that you will be quite comfortable on my ship."
(T'Val-If Commander Park cannot join us again. Laurana and T'Val could join me on my ship)
The gnawing feeling that something was wrong finally convinced Ezdreiana to act and ask the question. "Healer T'Val is there something wrong? I am not sure why, but I feel like you are doing something dangerous."
(T'Val)
"I understand for the need for secrecy and even though my actions have been questionable in the past, I assure you that you can trust me," Ezdreiana said wishing that for once she was a telepath. ~They have it so much easier~
(T'Val)
"I could meet you in person if that is necessary, but whatever you are planning on doing, I am offering my services," Ezdreiana said and waited for the Healer's response.

Paikea Apirana was finally back home. After two years away from Section 47, Pai had been transferred back to the best fleet in Starfleet. Paikea was fully aware that things were no longer the same. People had been promoted, demoted, created a family, and died in the two years since he had left. The only thing that hadn't change was Starbase Assailant, the starbase was just as impressive as he had remembered her.
"Commander Apirana, I understand that you have been a security officer before," a human commander asked Pai as he was standing on a crowded hallway.
"Yes Commander I have been a security officer," Pai replied perplexed that his past was already coming back to haunt him.
"I'm sorry if I have surprised you, I'm Commander Sharon Vanetti, Base Security," Commander Vanetti said," but I could really use an experienced security officer for a few days. In a few days we will be hosting a major diplomatic conference and I do not want anything to go wrong."
"I completely understand Commander, I would be happy to help as long as my transfer orders permit it," Paikea said glad that he wouldn't have to wait long to get back into the mode of things." One question Commander, is Admiral Lin still in charge of Assailant?"
"Of course, but I have not seen him for a few days," Commander Vanetti said before she started to debrief Paikea.
(Vanetti- Admiral Lin if you want to?)

Vanetti showed Paikea over to one of the security consoles and pointed out the access points to the diplomatic levels.
"We will be bolstering security at our level checkpoints and running additional sweeps here and here" she said pointing to the core function rooms, "Whilst I have this in hand with my own staff I could do with a liaison to work with Commander Zoilip. He is running Tactical Security and will cover ship dockings and clearance procedures."

"That will not be necessary, I have already secured some living arrangements with a friend on the base," Paikea said realizing that he had just volunteered himself for two new jobs," if that is all Commander, I'll take my leave."
The commander nodded in agreement and went on her way. His experience as a security officer did not compare with the level of responsibility that lay on Commander Venetti's shoulders. She was responsible for the security of the thousands of people on the starbase. ~All that responsibility would make me look like my dad~ Pai thought as he reached the nearest lift. He would quickly speak with Commander Zollip and then go about his business.
As he reached Ops, he noticed that it was busier than a regular starship bridge. Knowing that he would be unable to pick out the Commander he asked the nearest Lieutenant in a whisper to point him out.
"That is him sir," the Lieutenant said as he pointed to the Bolian off to the right. After thanking the Lieutenant, Paikea realized that he should have asked Commander Venetti for a description of Zollip before he had left. Allowing the Zollip to finish the conversation with an operations officer, Paikea approached the man.
"Commander Zollip, sorry to bother you, but Commander Venetti recommended that I speak to you. She mentioned that the starbase is in need of security officers during the conference and I volunteered," Paikea said as he tried to size up the man in front of him. Bolians were never an easy read, but Paikea could already tell that Zollip was all business.
(Zollip)
"If there is anything I can do for you please don't hesitate to ask," Paikea said glad that the he would be able to do something worthwhile for a change.

After T'Val left Laurana felt much better. She was still too scared to leave the Pools of Mak'ala at the moment but at least she knew the Vulcan would find a way to get her offworld and to SBA safely.
T Val when she set her mind to it could be a formidable woman and Laurana knew that she had many friends and allies. That line of thought led her down a new avenue. She thought back to when she and Magellan had first met. When the Pools had been attacked by the Parasites and the Symbiosis Commission infiltrated.
Magellan then had not been alone, he had come with Ambassadors Tedak and Ezedriana and a young trill called Gaz. She wondered if either were on Trill and quickly entered their details into the network. Both appeared to be planetside, but she was having difficulty contacting them. The Ambassadors comm line was obviously restriced but Gaz's was open. She left a quick message that she and T'Val needed his help, he was after all a pilot she seemed to recall.
A short while passed and T'Val,
"I have arranged transport, we will be met within the hour, are you ready?"
Laurana couldn't contain herself and jumped up embracing the Vulcan in a tight hug.
"Thank you." She said finally releasing the woman, "I think I may have found a pilot too."
TAG T'Val
"Okay I ll meet you in the lobby in an hour. Does that give you enough time to pack and get me to the transport. The difficult part will be getting from here to the nearest transporter." She paused "Although If I could lower the inhibitors in the pools you could beam me up from my office. But turning off the inhibitors would allow anyone else to beam in? I don't know what to do. I m just frightened, those men that killed this Kavek, they were so cold so inhumanoid. It was scary."

The day had been bright and sunny and Gaz was walking back to his hotel near the city's center. Reflecting on the day's events, he thought back to the last time he was home. Trill had almost been compromised and the sacred pools and its inhabitants wiped out - for good. His symbiont moved inside him recoiling also recalling the events, however to a human's way of thinking the thoughts were not separate but both instant. He heard the native nocturnal animals start their calls and that brought back fond memories of his childhood. Somehow though, thousands of more memories were there too - all remembering their own childhood.
The light had just vanished behind the hills and the sky seemed to be filled almost instantly with twinkling stars. The only unnatural light now coming from the city from just around an outcropping of rock. Gaz was just about to slip back into his memories when his comm badge alerted him of a message. Checking, the familiar voice informed him of its type - a message, text only.
He hastened his stride back to his room and soon reached the door that opened sensing his identity in only the way computers could. Sitting his bag onto the bed he tapped the terminal on the stand. Reading he saw the authors name Laurana, and read her request.
'Time time pack up,' he thought and went back to his bag and started to exchange the daily hikers items for his limited belongings. Finishing he left his room, not checking out in fear of tipping off whomever Laurana was fleeing, he made his way to the shuttle port.
Checking the flight manifest, he couldn't see any shuttle reserved for Laurana nor T'Val. He walked over to a terminal that was secluded from view and messaged both T'Val and Laurana.
Message: I received your message and I'm willing and waiting
... Hoping that would be enough of an answer.

Laurana quickly checked her messages before departing, There was a reply from Gaz. Quickly she follwoed up the written message with a short comm call.
"Thanks Jamey, Can you get to the Lobby of the Symbiosis Commission at the Caves of Mak'ala. I m meeting T'Val and Ezedriana there soon. I cant tell you how much it means, I need help to get away from this place. I l expl;ain more when I see you."
She quickly keyed off the come worried perhaps overly that she was being tapped and made sure she had everything in order before going downsatairs to wait for the others.

While Ezdreiana wasn't sure of what was happening she knew that a friend was in danger and she would do everything in her power to help. She would be joining T'Val and Laurana in the Caves shortly, but it was necessary to prepare the T'Pol for a quick departure.
"Ambassador we will be ready in twenty minutes," the T'Pol's captain reported.
"Thank you Captain, my guest and I will be aboard in ten minutes," Ezdreiana said as she picked up her bag and headed towards the shuttle that was waiting for her. As she approached the shuttle an explosion broke the quiet calm that had surrounded Ezdreiana. The explosion wasn't large enough to be an attempt on her life but it had enough power to knock her back a few yards.
"Ambassador are you safe?" a house maid asked running towards her frantically," ma'am you have to come back inside. This is very dangerous."
Before Ezdreiana could reply, she could here guards shouting and issuing commands. Within seconds she was surrounded by twenty security officers and emergency crews were already one the scene.
"What happened?" Ezdreiana asked as she tried to regain her balance.
"The shuttle has been destroyed, the pilot is dead,"a security guard reported," ma'am we have to get you to a secure location."
"No, take me to the Caves of Mak'ala right away, I need to get there now!" Ezdreiana said as she motioned for her personal guards to take the lead. "Warn the Guardians that they might be in danger. Inform the governor that a radical group attempted to take me hostage and I have gone into hiding."
Ezdreiana was aware that her Vulcan security did not want her to continue to take these risk, but they knew her well enough to know that nothing would stop her now. Whatever was happening was important enough to try and keep them on Trill and away from Magellan Lin. Within minutes she was inside the Caves where she was met by her future companions.
"We have to go now! Someone discovered our plans, we are all in danger," Ezdreiana said as she pointed towards some transporter buffers," they are waiting for us."

Laurana's message ...
"Thanks Jamey, Can you get to the Lobby of the Symbiosis Commission at the Caves of Mak'ala. I m meeting T'Val and Ezedriana there soon. I cant tell you how much it means, I need help to get away from this place. I l explain more when I see you."
'Caves of Mak'ala', Jamey thought, 'this is getting sticky fast.' Jamey had not been to the caves in such a long time and the last time wasn't for recreation nor was it pleasant. In fact it was just about the end of the Trill symbionts all together - their numbers were still low from the incident.
Hearing an explosion quickly brought him back from his recollections. A few moments later he overheard security talking about a destroyed shuttle and a dead pilot. That thought made him shutter but at the same moment he knew time was starting to run low - if not out.
He located the shuttle that he had already procured sitting on the last pad in the bay - he bolted toward it hoping to get it off the ground before shuttles could be grounded. Thankfully, the shuttle was just off of an assignment and he could warm boot the engines skipping the normal impulse drive start up altogether. Even so, the whining sound coming from them as he passed the last docking bay marker was clearly audible and something any shuttle mechanic would cringe about.
The Comm was already abuzz with flight restrictions and newly created no-fly zones and he knew the caves would not be approachable - not that they have been in a long time. He searched for a near by clearing that would still be in range of the cave's transporters and sat the shuttle down as softly as he could. Giving the engines a moment to recycle and to stabilize, he called Laurana
"Commander Gaz to Laurana, your carriage awaits," transmitting an encoded message along with the audio of the location of the shuttle.

Laurana breathed a deep sigh of relief as she heard that both Ezedriana and Gaz were ready. She was more than ready to leave immediately.
Grabbing her hold-all she left the lobby and found Ezedriana waiting for her with T'Val at her side.
"Gaz has a shuttle nearby. The co-ordinates are here" she said tapping them into the transporter. Ezedriana nodded and moved over to key in a few extra commands,
"This will erase our transporter ID's and destination from the logs" she said.
"lets go then"
In a shimmer the three of them dematerialised and appeared on the shuttle facing Jamey who was sat at the pilot seat. He was already powering up the shuttle as the transporter ended its cycle. It hummed as it lifted off the ground and made its way skyward.
"How long will it take to get to Assailant?" Laurana asked
TAG ALL
"Perhaps while we go we can try and decrypt this" she said holding out a PaDD
"What is it?"
"Its the PaDD the dying man gave me. He said to get it too Magellan. The PaDD is registered to a Dr Kavek. The name rings a bell, I think Mag may have mentioned him. Either way all the documents are heavily encrypted..."
"It looks like a series of links" Ezedriana
She held up the Padd to look up the encoded info:

The shuttle would be taking the group to Ezdreiana's ship which would provide the safety and speed they needed to reach Assailant in a reasonable time.
"Once we are on board my ship, we should reach Assailant in less than forty eight hours," Ezdreiana said as she sent her encrypted commands to her ship.
(Laurana)
"Commander, if I can be of any assistance please let me know," Ezdreiana said," I have been told that you near my complex when my shuttle was attacked. I'm pleased to know that if anything had happened to me, there would have been someone reliable to take the Guardian to her destination."
(Jamey)
"Commander, if you would please take us to these coordinates, once we arrive the T'Pol will take over," Ezdreiana said before turning her attention to T'Val and Laurana once again.
"It looks like a series of links" Adriana said as she held up the padd to look up the encoded info:

"I haven't seen an encryption like this before. The fact that its so small is also unusual," Ezdreiana said as she continued to look at the encoded information. "On the T'Pol we have the technology to look into the encryption, but it is up to you Guardian."
(Laurana)
Ezdreiana's personal communication device alerted her to the fact that they had finally reached their destination and within seconds they were all transported off the shuttle. It had come as a surprise to the other members of her party, but she didn't want to waste anytime.
"Take us to Assailant, Warp 9. I will contact Assailant shortly," Ezdreiana said as she tried to make her guest comfortable.

"I'm afraid that I wasn't in sight of the incident," Gaz said. "I was in the Federation area securing this shuttle when the explosion occurred. However I can tell you by monitoring flight control that all transporter activity has been inhibited inside the shuttle areas. I could only think that a precaution such as that means they suspect that the explosive device was transported inside or on to your shuttle." Gaz paused only for a moment then added, "From my experience that would have had to been done from someone close to your shuttle area using some type of personal transporter device. All planet based transporters would not allow that type of device to transport. Of course there would also be the possibility that the device was transported from a large ship in orbit."
"Commander, if you would please take us to these coordinates, once we arrive the T'Pol will take over," Ezdreiana said.
Gaz entered the coordinates as she requested and was about to ask if he needed to dock the shuttle when the familiar sparkle of a transporter beam took all but him from the shuttle.
(edited to support the story) 'I guess my services are no longer needed.' Gaz speculated. Moments before the beam took Gaz from looking at Federation console to that of a Vulcan design, he used those moments to expunge the flight logs of the event. To cover his need to return so soon to the plant he reported back to flight control that the driver coils were experiencing some type of electromagnetic anomaly. He also had the ship to pilot itself back to Trill as was custom when shuttles would carry people to waiting ships in orbit.

T'Val seemed unperturbed by it all, looking more calm and composed than anyone had seen her before. Perhaps her pregnancy caused this, or perhaps she had learned a thing or two about emotional control along the way. Though tu-Jarok by rearing and choice, often enough she found herself drawn to the ways of tu-surak more and more. The latter meant the shedding of emotions in favour of logic and control, while the first also embraced emotions to a degree. As they were transported on board, she pulled Ezdreiana to the side. "Du't-nash-veh yar'es has-sutauk. Nash-veh rel-daisu ahm T'Val Mercy. *" She spat out in Vulcan, sounding harsher than whenever she spoke Federation Standard and it didn't sound as if it were open for negotiation. She looked to Laurana. "Kal-tor nash-veh fi'du." ** She studied the Trill woman for a moment, before switching back to Standard. "You too, sickbay." She started to 'herd' them away, giving them little room to argue. Laurana no doubt was very stressed, and Ezdreiana had just been close to the explosion so she needed to be examined anyway. T'Val didn't even care that this was the ambassador's ship, and that sickbay wasn't hers to begin with. Finally she turned to Jamey before stepping into the turbolift. "Can you connect sickbay to the communications system, and signal Admiral Lin that we are coming?" Once they arrived in sickbay, she ordered each of them to a biobed, then started to order the present nursing staff about. She saw to Ezdreiana first, snapping open her tricorder, fixing steely green eyes on the woman. "Were you harmed?" she asked bluntly, "are you in pain?" She hefted the scanner attached to the tricorder and held it over the Trill diplomat. <Ezdreiana> "You do not appear harmed," T'Val concluded, after taking several scans, "you may return to the bridge. I will see to Miss Laurana, and make sure that she is able to come to the bridge later. I desire for her to rest first." <Ezdreiana> T'Val walked over to Laurana, her expression softening a little. "You are very brave," she commented, as she held up the scanner. "You should rest now, before returning to the bridge. It will be several hours, before you will be able to speak with Magellan." <Laurana>
Vulcan Translations: *Du't-nash-veh yar'es has-sutauk. Nash-veh rel-daisu ahm T'Val Mercy - You and I are going to my sickbay, I am a healer T'Val Mercy **Kal-tor nash-veh fi'du - let me look at you

Speaking Vulcan was nothing new to Ezdreiana and her crew aboard the T'Pol. The fact that they were on a Vulcan ship made that impossible, but the fact that she was being ordered to do something took Ezdreiana by surprise. It took her a few seconds to realize that it was only T'Val's healer instincts taking over.
"Commander Gaz, you are the most seasoned officer on board the T'Pol right now. Which means that the burden of leadership has fallen on you once again," Ezdreiana said as she made the Trill officer the temporary captain of her vessel. "Treat the Commander's orders like they were mine or my husbands."
(Jamey)
With that done, the three of them quickly made there way towards sickbay. It wasn't as impressive as the facilities on Assailant, but Ezdreiana knew they were as good as any starships.
"Were you harmed?" she asked bluntly, "are you in pain?" She hefted the scanner attached to the tricorder and held it over the Trill diplomat.
"T'Val I am unharmed, the explosion did not do anything more than cause a ringing in my ears," Ezdreiana said as she tried to alleviate the healer's worries," please calm down and let us do what we must."
"You do not appear harmed," T'Val concluded, after taking several scans, "you may return to the bridge. I will see to Miss Laurana, and make sure that she is able to come to the bridge later. I desire for her to rest first."
"That is fine by me, she has been through a great ordeal today, but I will not be returning to the bridge," Ezdreiana said," I must coordinate with Trill authorities on investigating the attack on me today. I also need to work on getting that encryption decoded."
(T'Val)
"Once she feels ready, please ask Laurana to join me in the science level three decks down," Ezdreiana said as she quietly left sickbay and got down to work.

Gaz herd the Ambassador's words - he froze in his tracks. It seemed a bit strange that a Federation Officer would be granted this type of command however temporary. The Crew of the T'Pol also seemed a bit taken with the command as well. A sublieutenant, from the rank shown on her uniform, spoke up as the others exited to their examinations. "Khart-lan, what is your call?" Gaz understood khart-lan to be that indicating a Starfleet Captian and not ang'jimizn, the Vulcan word for Captain. He also knew that is wasn't a debasing slip of the tongue, but a simple fact. He wasn't a Vulcan Captain. Gaz replied, "Steady as she goes Sublieutenant." Turning to the weapons control, "scan for any ship in pursuit or any ship that may intersect our course and inform me immediately." He slid into the Command chair and started reviewing the scans. Gaz had to admit, it was a honorable feeling.

Laurana for once felt at ease. Aboard a vulcan ship surrounded by people she knew she could trust had helped lighten her dark mood somewhat. She still felt a small feeiling of dread. Those men that had been after her had seemed so determined, so cold and inhuman. It gave her the shivers. The T'pol was typical of a vulcan ship, efficient and functional. Gaz seemed to have taken to the command confidently and Lauaran gave her fellow Trill a smile of thanks. T'Val was still at her side and Lauarana grapsed her hand. "Thankyou for your help. I know now we shall be at Assailant soon." TAG T'Val "Will you join me with Ezedriana?" TAG T'Val === Three decks down in the science lab Ezedriana was already sat at a terminal with the PaDD linked into the main data port. "This is heavily encrypted" she noted as Laurana entered "The man who gave it me was very scared and rightly so. He seemed to think only Magellan would understand what was in it." "Do we know who this man was?" Laurana shifted uncomfortably, "Actually I do. I ran a DNA test from his blood whilst I was at the Commission. The man was someone called Dr Kavek." Ezedriana shook her head, having never heard of the man, "He is a criminal. Responsible for the injury and death of many. He is also what might be considered an enemy of Magellan. The two have a long history. The Doctor was responsible for ending the career of Magellans first CO - Locutus." TAG Ezedriana "I m not sure. I don't think he wished Magellan ill. He seemed to want to... I don't know tell him something. It must be big for Kavek to even think about contacting Magellan." "Lets see if we cant shed some light on this then" Ezedriana said beginning a number of algorithims, "Perhaps some of the code fragments are something he and Magellan would know. Give me names that might mean something to them" Lauarana struggled to think, "I don't know that much about Mag, He mentions his old ship of course but rarely, There was Locutus of course, Sek his doctor on his first command, errm... Riker, Walker Zoilip. Hang on... try Sek. Sek was a changelling and Kavek hid inside him from some time whilst Magellan hunted for him" Entering Sek into the search string seemed to have some effect bringing up a single data file. Ezedriana frowned what ever Kavek had to say must be linked to this Library file section47.wikkii.com/wiki/Clue1"Lets have a look then" Laurana stated. === Oustide the small shuttle that had hung in orbit of Trill ignited its impulse engines and plotted a pursuit course of the T'Pol

The passing of time made his temporary positioning seem not so temporary. Scans of the surrounding flight path had come up with nothing, but Gaz didn’t think for a moment they warped away from Trill unnoticed. Vulcan warp signatures were not exactly a secret, and seeing no effort of covering their tracks were done, anyone with a half a wit could follow them. ‘Well,’ Gaz thought, ‘I’m not going to make it easy for them.’
“Sub lieutenant,” Gaz spoke up trying to cover the fact that he really wasn’t up on the most modern Vulcan technology. He just knew that Vulcans had probed the stars for years more than most, so why couldn’t they do what he was about to say. “Humor me for a moment. If you were wanting to follow a Vulcan star ship, say like this one, what probe or maybe an unmanned shuttle would you leave in your wake to throw off ‘said person’?”
He could see a smirk, but from a Vulcan he thought. Gaz continued, “prepare a probe that gives any would-be follower more than one trail to follow.” “And helm,” he instructed, “Let’s scan our harr-krus a bit more intensely ever so often … we need to keep an eye on our back door.”
