Shore Leave - USS [New Ship 1]
Welcome all to the first posting thread for our new ship! This will be posted until such time as we have a ship name, a class, and all are aboard her and ready to go! Thank you. * * * * * The Denobulan Captain had just finished emptying out his ready room, and now he sat in a bare office at his desk, the only thing remaining being a black, gold rimmed rank pip, on the desk's surface before him. It was the same pip he'd worn as an Acting Ensign, and it was a reminder for himself of the journey he'd taken through his career so far. The chime rang, and Saryn and Savin entered the ready room. "Captain Gheskori, Savin and I have received and confirmed new orders. We are to stay with you as your medical officers," the older Vulcan announced pointedly."That is good news," Gheskori answered with a grin. Inwardly, he sighed in relief and felt himself sink into the chair a bit. He had been worried; in the provisional crew complement, the two vulcans had not been properly listed, but now it seemed it was just, as he'd hoped, a technicality, due to the vulcans' rather unique situation. Ghes rounded the desk, coming to stand before them. "Our new ship is in a dock on the other side of the station. It won't be long before we're permitted to see it," he promised. <Tag Saryn/Savin> "Tell me," he said, "Have you made contact with Vulcan? Perhaps there is family you'd like hear from, or at least investigate. "Families spread a long way in two hundred years, even for long-life people like you and me," Ghes grinned. "I should certainly know, with my wives, and their husbands, and.... and so on." <Tag Saryn/Savin> * * * Gheskori reached the bottom of the docking vestibule that led from the Victory to the Starbase, and he paused by the boundary which would disconnect him from the USS Victory forever. He made the fateful step. He frowned, but then broke out in a smile. Curiously, it hadn't seemed much of an event at all. He knew it was because he'd alread said his goodbyes and his farewell to the ship, and he felt an immense satisfaction swell within him that the 'fateful' step had not been the heavy foot of history stamping a sad close on part of his life, but it was one that rent an unveiling hole into the life that was to come. Yes, this was a new start. "Thank you," Gheskori said, taking the fine Earth tea from the waiter and settling back into the chair to read the PADD. He was brushing up on the Starbase's current affairs, and had located a particularly interesting article on a new starship, currently being fuelled and made ready in docking port 55-gamma. The old-fashioned door swung open and a person moved in. The door slapped shut with a delicious crack of wood. Gheskori very much appreciated that kind of thing; very rustic and old-fashioned. He watched the person coming in, thinking that he might recognise them. A Starfleet officer of middle rank; he watched in interest and with a thought forming in his mind. <Tag Cohen?> He was in a cafe establishment, sitting next to a wall-encompassing window that looked out on a large curving concourse adjacent to some of the docking ports. In the dock directly out the window was - partially concealed - the very starship he'd been reading about in the Station News... He smiled.. And the very starship he would soon be commanding out on its venture to the stars... <Tag All>

Part of her was sad to be leaving her long time home, her trusty ship the USS Vesuvius. While the ship hadn't been in service for even a decade, it was time to retire her to the reserve fleet. Certainly, if needed she could still take her out, after all it still was her ship, but given the amount of damage she had sustained, it was better to retire her. She hadn't cried, that just wasn't her, but she had been visibly grieved to leave. Jatan too had been very quiet when they had packed up their belongings and transferred them to starbase. New orders would be coming in soon, and Sonak was actually looking forward to a change of pace. She had seen crew come and go, she had even seen crew die and that was something no commanding officer had ever desired to experience. "Mommy, where are we going now?" Six year old Seliv junior glanced up at his mother, question in his dark eyes that were so similar to those of her late husband Seliv senior. The Vulcan woman glanced up at Jatan, who shrugged in turn. "We are going to stay on the starbase for a little while," she answered, "Jatan knows where our quarters are. Please assist your siblings and your father, while I go for a walk." She desperately needed to go for a walk. "Sevus, please accompany your mother," Jatan told his oldest adopted son. Apart from three-year old Miriya, the other four children were all full Vulcan, children from his wife's late husband who had been killed six years ago, with the destruction of the first Vesuvius. "Yes father," the 10-year old boy replied gravely and joined his mother on her way out. The pair walked in silence, entering a cafe even though technically the child wasn't allowed to enter due to his young age. It took a simple glare from the admiral to subdue the guard and let the child pass. "Greetings captain," Sonak greeted Gheskori as she found him sat near one of the windows, "may we join you?" Gheskori stood immediately and came to attention before the member of the Admiralty. He recognised her as the new ship's appointed diplomatic officer straight away: Sonak Reckus. With her she had another vulcan, a young one, and the Denobulan Captain got an odd familiar feeling as he watched them both... Vulcans came at him in pairs these days it seemed; he kept his expression respectful but inwardly smiled; gone were his days of one-on-one combative duelling with vulcans, a past-time in which he used to partake in the boxing rings at the academy.
Silently, Admiral Reckus waved him down. Gheskori sat, "Thank you, sir, and yes please sit." He smiled; "Would you like some tea?" She nodded. The two Vulcans sat, a little stiffly so but that was mainly because they were out of their element. "May I offer congratulations on the command of your new vessel?" she continued softly as a waiter placed a glass of tea before the both of them. While Sevus stared in open awe at the Denobulan, Sonak carefully picked up the hot drink and sipped it. "I understand we shall be serving together, I am assigned to your vessel as Diplomatic Officer. I am not quite certain what will be expected of me, however I am certain we can work something out. Under no circumstance am I after your command, please understand that. If ever you feel I am intruding, you must tell me at once, regardless of my rank. Are we in agreement?" "Yes, I understand perfectly, Admiral," he paused, looking out the window and cracking a momentary grin as he saw his grand, majestic new vessel, "While I'm fairly new to the business of being a Captain, I feel I have enough of a grasp to know when that grasp is being tampered with." He sipped his tea and looked back.
"Are we to have your family accompanying us on our new venture, sir?" he asked, turning his gaze warmly to the young vulcan sitting beside the Admiral. The young man was watching Gheskori closely, and he wondered if the youngster had seen a Denobulan before. Without warning, Gheskori gave one of his - apparently unnatural - very wide grins.
OOC from Gheskori to Sonak: I think it would be best to write a new post now rather than modifying this one again, as I will be responding to Cohen.

James stood looking at his assistant in distress, "Transfered again!" He replied briskly looking towards the Bolian Lieutenant with a great amount of distain. He looked around, "I didn't even get to move into my new office..."
Machi smiled, "Commander it'll be alright have you been over there to see her yet?"
The Commander nodded slowly, "I went to check the reports on some of the work being done. Being the Chief Engineer of the new ship does have it's benefits. Now, I have a question have you thought about my request?" He asked lifting the last of what little items he had left inside the office.
"Of course sir, and I have made my choice. Sir, it will be fun working with you on board our new ship...Er...What class?"
James shook his head, "I am not to tell, now come we need to get these things to our temporary quarters on the Starbase." He said and made his way towards the exit. As they walked down the corridor to revisit the port that would allow them entry back onto the Starbase James spoke again, "I only went to check the progress I won't know more until the Engineering Staff meeting in the morning."
Machi smirked, "Gotta love meetings eh sir?"
James nodded again, "Yeah, well once you get the position of chief engineer it tends to get more political."
Machi looked at him sideways as they transitted to the Starbase, "Have you ever considered a command sir?"
The Commander looked around for a moment the question shocked him. A command of his own meant that he had to be away from engineering that was something he didn't want he loved his job and hearing the hum of the core when he was in engineering. And, holding the ship together for his Captain was by far more entertaining then being the Captain. "I thought about it for two seconds Lieutenant Machi...I'm not interested." He said and then smiled waving goodbye as the pair split from eachother. After dropping his items off he entered a small cafe.
He seen Sonak standing next to a Denubulan Captain all thoughts of his sister for now were no longer there replaced by thoughts of his future meeting with the rest of the shipbuilding staff members. He approached them, "Hello Admiral."
<Tag Sonak>
He looked at the Captain trying to trace his thoughts the man looked familiar enough then the vivid memory came to him. This was his future captain and the very question of his second came into his mind. "Hello Captain, I am Lieutenant Commander James Cohen I am your new Chief Engineering Officer. The guy that will try to keep your ship spaceworthy...And, be very successful at it I might add." He made a cheeky grin.

Captain Jon Park was looking over a Padd showing another change in the fleet, But one thing was his friends were on this ship. He had served with James Cohan and a few others once before.
Jon opend the Channel to the Newest ship in the fleet and said . "Captain Jon Park to Captain Gheskori." He waited and saw the Denobulan Captain face appear on his screen.
"Captain Gheskori, Captain Park of the Nevada. I wanted to just call and tell you Congrats on the Appointment to that new ship. I have served with at least 2 of your new officers and they are good workers, I know that Mr. Cohan is very talented, i would have loved for him to be transfed to the Nevada."
Jon sat back a moment, "If you need help i will only be a subspace communication away, And if we are ever at a Spacedock, drinks are on me." Jon said to the computer screen.
After a talk with the Captain he signed off and went back to the Padd's and all the new information being a Captain opens up for him.

As Gheskori and Sonak continued their conversation, the officer whom he'd seen enter earlier on approached the table... The Captain saw his approach and found himself pleased, for he had recognised who this man was.
He first said hello to the Admiral, before turning to Gheskori. "Hello Captain, I am Lieutenant Commander James Cohen I am your new Chief Engineering Officer. The guy that will try to keep your ship spaceworthy...And, be very successful at it I might add."
Gheskori grinned in return at his new CEO's confident words, and stood up quickly to shake the man's hand. Now it was not common practice for a Denobulan to engage in physical touch with those not in intimacy, but he made an exception here, for this one of his new crewmembers of the brand new vessel.
"Captain Gheskori," he introduced himself, "As you know, Commander Cohen. I look forward to serving with you. As for engineering, let's hope so," he said with a false sterner tone, "I've heard tell that the stardrive section's pre-launch preparation is not going as smoothly as liked. Some problem with the injectors, and the wrong type of fuel?" Cohen regarded him blankly. Gheskori laughed, "But not to worry you, Commander, we should all enjoy this time while it lasts. May I offer you a seat?"
<Tag Cohen> (& Sonak from the end of the post I modified)
Posting ahead a few hours, please disregard for the purposes of the current dialogue above
Ghes sat before a screen in his new ready room. Another ship CO faced him on it, but not for any mission-related reason. The ship was far from ready, half the consoles on the bridge still in need of outfitting for the coming shakedown mission or whatever assignment they were to be issued with. However, he had already been bowled over by the look and feel of the ship's interior; indeed, so impressed he was that he'd the enthusiasm to engage a technician in conversation for half-an-hour discussing some fine aspect of the sensor technology.
The man facing him, Captain Park sat back in his seat, "If you need help i will only be a subspace communication away, And if we are ever at a Spacedock, drinks are on me," he said.
"Thank you for your offer Captain Park," he acknowledged, "And may I congratulate you on your recent promotion to Captain. I don't know your ship personally, but I hear tell she's a fine vessel. Why I think we've been docked simultaneously at Assailant not all that long ago, it is a surprise we didn't run into each other. Of course, neither of us were Captains then..."
The conversation continued until Park informed he had better go, for the Nevada was in the middle of a mission as far as Ghes could tell. Gheskori smiled, aware now that a Captain's life was a busy and responsibility-laden affair.. He wished Park luck.

Vin had gotten off the old ship, once he made sure all weapons were accounted for as well as all tricorders. He had to do a inventory of everyone and checked them off as he went down the list. His things in his office as well as his quarters had been transferred to temporary quarters on the starbase, so he did not have to worry about anything, he would soon be meeting with an admiral about the new ship.
Vinnie did not feel like goin g to his quarters and decided to head to the promenade, he took a walk and was looking at the shops, he saw the Captain and an admiral he did not recognize sitting at a table and walked by, they seemed busy and he did not want to bother them. He continued walking and saw Commander Galwyn.
"Commander, I have been meaning to talk to you about your joining, I just haven't had the opportunity, how are you coping?" Vin asked.

Scene: Cmdr Matthew Personal Quarters on the new ship
“James sat up in bed. His eyes darted around the darkened room and he felt the rumbling of the New ship Engines Being Tested as he threw back the covers and turned to drop his feet on the floor with a *thunk*. He brought his hands up to rub at his face, still confused by the remnants of one crazy mixed up dream about the last mission out Come...
“He glanced at the time and groaned with a sigh he got up and headed for the living area of his quarters. On the way past the replicator he requested a large mug of black coffee and then carried it with him to his desk.
“He sat down and turned on the terminal, logging in to the network before unlocking the drawer off to the side and pulling out the data disc.
“As the computer downloaded the new information, James opened his mail terminal and took the time to send a message to the new Chief, of Engineering That he would be Checking in with him later that Morning

James smiled and took a seat, "Thank you Captain." He replied before sitting down though he wouldn't be able to stick around for long he had two important meetings to get to. One he would have to set up with the Operations Chief for the new ship that he was going to be on board. The second was with the ship builders. When the captain mentioned about the injectors and all that he was slightly confused. For a second he tried to recollect the PADD he read this morning. "Well I do have a meeting with the engineering corps. that is in charge of working on the ship. And, am going through the engineering spaces I will find out more I'm sure."

OOC: Mr Matthew, please do NOT make any presumptions on requests made from the CMO. I, as Saryn, AM the CMO....and I don't appreciate being written for, thank you.
IC: "Mr Cohen comes highly recommended captain," the Vulcan admiral responded as she settled back in her seat. At her side, the child gazed up at the two officers in awe. Even at this young age he had already shown an aptitude for engineering, as he often tried to take things apart and put them back together again, often even with miminal spare parts left over. Sonak knew he was taking after his late biological father, the child was in fact his spitting image, despite the rosy sheen over his dark hair.
"You are an engineer?" the boy asked, eyes wide as he stared up at Cohen. "Can I come to engineering? Please? Can I see?"
Sonak all but rolled her eyes as she offered the smallest hint of a smile. "He is quite eager. On Vesuvius he also spent some time in engineering, with several Chief Engineers. His twin too is a tinkerer, and together they have wrought a great deal of havoc, trust me. It is better he learns sooner rather than later."
At that precise moment, two more Vulcans walked in, both looking reasonably unsure of where to go until they were pointed towards where the Captain was sitting. Neither Vulcan was in uniform, and neither wore any sign of ranks.
"Ah, your timetravelers captain?" Sonak enquired, nodding towards the two newcomers, "how are they settling in?"
<Ghes/Cohen>
She rose to her feet and gestured for the two to join them. Saryn gently inclined his head in gratitude and sank down in one of the vacant seats. The first thing Sonak noticed, was that he looked exhausted. The younger man looked little different. "Are you all right?" she asked, clearly concerned while the medic in her won it over the commanding officer.
Saryn again nodded. "Yes ma'am, I am...fine. We spent several hours being debriefed by the admiralty, for the last several days. Aside from that, we have been attempting to get acquainted with this time period. We...have a lot of catching up to do."
"And stubborn as you are, because you are Vulcan, you decided to forgo on sleep," Sonak replied, arching an eyebrow.
"Yes ma'am," Saryn replied, "and we have been training."
Sonak noticed he was using his hands to support his speech and recognised it as Vulcan Sign Language. "Are you deaf?" she asked, responding in similar fasion.
"I am," the younger man spoke up, "I have been all my life, though I have been taught how to speak. Obviously. I am Savin, son of Saryn." He gestured to the older man. "My father," he introduced, "chief medical officer of the newly commissioned vessel." It was obvious both Vulcans were proud men, and clearly warriors which was unusual in this era.
"I too am a doctor," Sonak replied casually, "though I no longer wield the scepter in a sickbay. That task befals on you now. I am now assigned to support your captain, in any way he needs me to. Is that not correct captain?"

Tiana as still wearing a corticial monitor but had not been back to sickbay yet and there had been no alarms. She and Cet seemed to be getting on all right. So far no one from Trill had contacted her, which seemed odd. Then again she wouldn't put it pass the Symbiosis Commission to just turn up unannounced. She had sent a message to her parents saying she was okay but had deliberately left out the problems she had been having, they worried too much as it was.
She had been wandering the starbase for a while examining the new equilibrium within herself and gazing out at the stars. The stars definitely felt like home.
"Commander, I have been meaning to talk to you about your joining, I just haven't had the opportunity, how are you coping?" Vin asked.
Tiana turned somewhat startled by the Security Chief approaching her, she was more bothered by that than she might once have been.
She gave an eloquent shrug. 'How do you explain suddenly having 10 lifetimes of memory jammed into your head..' she pondered and decided to avoid being too cynical or too cryptic.
"Better than the medics thought I would. Not as well as I would have liked." She touched the cortical monitor. "I had a couple of neurotransmitter imbalances but everything seems to have settled down now."
Tiana leaned against a wall and continued talking "I think I'm pretty much who I always was but Cet isn't a symbiont who would ever have been matched to me so there's some interesting perspectives to get used to." She gave a grin that some how managed to make her look older than her years. "Cet has 400 years of security, military and investigative training... Don't worry I'm not after your job... but I think I may have to take up hand to hand or something to keep things in balance. It's either that or I'll end up trying a move without thinking and pulling a muscle."

"Mr Cohen comes highly recommended captain."
James looked at the Admiral blushing, "I wouldn't say..." He said shaking his head clear just then out of the corner of his eye he noticed Sonak's son looking up at him.
James couldn't help, but smile perhaps it was because the aspiring engineer reminded him of himself when he was that age. When he was twelve he disassembled his father's shuttle for no reason other then to see how it worked. He then put it back together and it worked better after he completed it. His father wasn't too thrilled about the whole thing. "You may come to engineering anytime you want to. You and your brother(Or sister/Twin) may come anytime you wish. I'm certain Lieutenant Machi wouldn't mind your visits. Perhaps if your mother allows it we can reconstruct a shuttle?" He suggested with a hidden smirk on his features.

"Well I do have a meeting with the engineering corps. that is in charge of working on the ship. And, am going through the engineering spaces I will find out more I'm sure."
Gheskori sipped his tea rapidly, his eyes darting between the engineer and the door that led behind the food/drink counter. It was swinging to and fro, the cafe's staff finding themselves busy during the midday. He nodded, "I'm sure you shall, Mr. Cohen. If you have any trouble with the base engineers contact me immediately, I don't want my officers put in the position of not being able to do their job. A harsh call from a starship Captain will put it all right."
The expression on Ghes's face had slowly been changing to one of amusement, as he watched the vulcan child staring with palpable wonder at the engineer. As it happened, the CEO seemed all too happy to amuse the young one and they started talking about shuttles and disassemblies, the vulcan seeming fully engaged. What joy it was to be a child, he thought... vulcan or not. He grinned at the child and nodded to Cohen.
The main door swung open. "Ah, your timetravelers captain?" Sonak enquired, nodding towards the two newcomers, "how are they settling in?"
Ghes nodded, "Well enough, I think. Of course, it's hard to tell," he looked at Sonak directly, "As members of your race can be... uh, quite reserved sometimes. In a way it's good that we're moving, I suspect they hadn't really felt at home on the Victory. Hopefully, this will be a fresh start for them." He paused, smiled and drank some more of his beverage. Losing himself in thought, he thought that Doctor Saryn and his family were impeccably brave given what'd happened in their lives.
"- Is that not correct captain?"
Doctor Saryn's pseudo-emotionless face was looking at him, and Ghes found himself in the position of not quite knowing what'd been asked. He let the pause become noticeable.
"Oh, yes, that's correct," he said then, "In fact, I think it is doubly correct. For both Doctor Saryn and yourself to agree on it means we are all very right, and, well, need I say more?" He swigged back the rest of his drink.
"Doctor Saryn," he addressed the vulcan, "You'll be glad to know you've been given full access to the medical files as would any ship CMO in the Federation, and just to remind you you have the full right to exercise command authority in medical concerns, even with your civilian status. Have you been to the ship and sickbay yet? The popular opinion is that you have the best new medical staff available to the fleet. I've reviewed some of the names myself."
He turned to Sonak, "What was your department before you reached command grade, Admiral?"
<Tag Saryn; Sonak>
Fifteen minutes later, and after another cup of Denobulan tea, Gheskori felt ready to make his way to the ship. He wanted to see her once again... The thought made him laugh.. he almost felt as excited thinking about the vessel as he did about his wives. Almost.
Many people lined the promenade, moving in a pattern that could well approximate Brownian motion, and Ghes felt like but one of those particles as he weaved his way through the colours and lights. He wondered how many people would be revealed, if he had the ability to make all those that weren't members of his new crew vanish from the promenade. Many of those moving here might just be the people he was to serve with, and he was made to grin when he saw Commander Galwyn and Ensign Wolf standing some distance away. He waved in their direction, and then made a change in direction towards the new ship.

Saryn inclined his head, fully aware that the captain hadn't caught a word he'd said. "I appreciate the vote of confidence captain," he replied gravely, "I assure you that I have been brushing up on modern medicine and I am confident that I am up to the task. I al also grateful that Starfleet assigned us to your vessel, so that we are at least familiar with the crew and will not need to adjust to more people just yet."
Savin turned to the Vulcan admiral, curious to 'hear' the answer to Gheskori's question. Until now he had been studying her child, who was not much younger than his adopted sister. His dark eyes were intent on the red-headed admiral, his surprise at her knowledge of sign language evident.
"I have always been a doctor captain," Sonak replied bemusedly, "my first tenure in this fleet was as chief medical officer and later on I served a brief period as chief counselor after I went back to the academy to broaden my horizons. I am both a qualified surgeon as well as counselor, aside from being an experienced starship captain."
"I could use your assistance in sickbay then," Saryn spoke up, sounding somewhat delighted, "and it is ironic, that you ended up as a starship captain. In the century I come from, I served a brief time as ship's captain, assigned by Starfleet as a temporary measure. I have tactical training yet I am a doctor by default. I know quite well how to wield a weapon and I have no qualms about using one to defend myself or my staff. Many doctors refuse weapons, I do not." He indicated his sword, drawing it partially from it's scabbard. "My son and I are both from a warrior clan, and we are expert swordsmen."
Sevus gawked at the shining sword, reaching out with his tiny hand to touch the blade. Savin's hand shot out to grab it just in time, just before the small fingers could touch the blazing red blade. The young doctor held the child's hand within his own, dark eyes on the boy. "Do not touch the blade," he warned calmly, "it is razor sharp, the tiniest touch could cut your skin. You may look, if father allows it."
Saryn on his part shook his head. "This is no weapon for a child, he would do better to be trained in other martial arts." He arched an eyebrow at Sonak. "You do train him and your other children, do you not? Suus mahna is a very valuable art to learn and a hard one to master."
"I do not," Sonak replied, "I have not the skill to teach them, I was not raised on Vulcan or by Vulcans. My parents are Human."
"I would be honoured to teach them," Saryn replied, "I am not yet a master but I would soon be. My son too is training hard, we would both instruct them, if you allow it." He looked sideways at Cohen. "You too would be welcome, if you desire, but as I say it is difficult to master and often trained in from a very young age. Younger than the admiral's son, or even her youngest child."

James seen as the other Vulcans approached the group that he'd been sitting with. Cohen wasn't all too keen when dealing with command grade officers, but give him the engine room and it was like art at work. The engineer was not one to sit at his desk all day and simply push paperwork perhaps that is why he never considered a command of his own. He was more hands on enjoying the simple pleasure of taking apart a warp core, and then rebuilding it with his own hands. Dealing with the Vulcan species did however make his amount of humor increase they were interesting as a species. He remembered a conversation he had with one such Vulcan officer it was ten years ago when he was still a Lieutenant the Vulcan wasn't command grade he was in tactical. The name at this point had vanished from him, but he did recall asking why Vulcan's tried to mask their emotions. The response was not what he had expected, "I do not believe it is logical to speak of such matters with you Lieutenant." But, then again perhaps now that he was ten years older and a commander himself it did make sense. His thoughts were broken when Saryn spoke to him.
"You too would be welcome, if you desire, but as I say it is difficult to master and often trained in from a very young age. Younger than the admiral's son, or even her youngest child."
The Vulcan doctor had caught him slightly off guard he had missed a fair portion of the conversation at hand. He did save himself by raising a hand, "I just may take you up on that offer Doctor." He replied then standing, "Sorry, but I must excuse myself it is time for that meeting that I spoke of." He said, "I will see you all on board!"
<Tag All>
With that he smiled and left his thoughts for a moment a little fuzzy, but that didn't matter a couple minutes later he entered the conference room where several senior grade engineers had gathered. Most of them were his rank with only two full Commanders in the room.
"Ah, Lieutenant Commander James Cohen is it? Yes, come please we were just about to go aboard the new ship that you will be trying to hold together. I've heard so many good things about you yes."
James looked at the Benzite officer he had failed to gain a name. As he was escorted towards the outer docking ring the meeting wasn't for another four hours, but he was about to get the chance to explore the new ship, and check that the progress was nearly complete. And, as he stepped across the threshold he took a breath because suddenly he missed the crewmembers that were not coming aboard...

The Denobulan Captain moved in smooth strides down one of the corridors of the new starship. The passageway was silent; hardly even a thrum from the active power systems emanated from the walls. The main engines were offline, while Commander Cohen and his base counterparts explored, carried out tests and checks on the drive system. Everywhere there was the smell of fresh sealant, new carpets and shiny fingerprint-clear wallpanels.
So it was with a feeling of pride and cleanliness that Ghes approached a door at a junction. It slid aside obediently and he looked inside. Commander Matthew sat at his desk seemingly hard at work.
"Ah, Commander," Ghes said as Matthew looked up, "The computer said you were aboard, and here you are. How go preparations?" he asked, eyeing the pile of PADDs at the Commander's desk with little envy.

He nodded along with Matthew's report, walking past the COO to stand at the small portal the room provided. Gheskori sighed; he was sure Matthew's old Ops office on the Victory was much larger, and equipped with a much better view. The change in class away from the old Nebula design hadn't done the COO any favours in this respect seemingly!
Still, he thought, the view was impressive; thousands of lights, mere pinpricks from this side of the dock, dotted the far wall. Its neutral grey gave everything a clean edge, and Ghes got a real impression that this was a new start - a clean slate of neutral grey, soon to be inked with the blackness of space.
"Speaking of personnel," the Captain interjected, "Commander Parsons is yet to come aboard." He turned from the portal to look at Matthew. "I'd like you to double for some of his duties until such time as he makes formal contact with the base commander. You're the most senior Commander First Class aboard so it's only right. It shouldn't be long 'til I hear from him... Anyway, I'll leave you to it."

Having signed off all the requests for the early afternoon - and there would doubtlessly be more come early evening - he headed to the holodeck, keen to sample the recreational facilities aboard the new vessel even though he had the full facilities of a Starbase available to him. He had the computer open a holoprogram of his from the centralised Starfleet database, he having moved all of his recreations to that vast repository. Smiling, he entered.
Soon, he was sliding down a hill chasing the bolting form of a Qoapoj, a beast native to a moon of one of the planets in the Denobulan system. The hill was coated in a layer of permafrost, but the air was in no way cold. Up to a few seconds ago, he'd been progressing slowly down towards the forested lands below, traversing the face in slow zigzags and keeping a trained eye on his quarry. Then he'd slipped from an outjutting of rock and now he was following in the beast's wake in a much more direct route down the slope. Just as he thought he had the Qoapoj in his grasp he felt his stomach rise and his feet lose purchase on the icy ground beneath.
The hill had disappeared. "Argh!" he exclaimed, as he went tumbling through the air aimed surely for the featureless and completely flat grey surface far below; unbuilt holospace. "Computer, end program!" he hollered, and was relieved when he found himself back in the familiar gridded interior of an inactive holodeck. Straightening his hair and dusting himself down, he left the room somewhat disgruntled and stared pointedly at the computer panel. "What happened?"
There was a lengthy pause before the computer eventually replied. ~ Unknown. An error occurred; holodeck one is offline. ~
"New software..." Ghes muttered. "Is holodeck two online? Oh, more importantly, is it occupied?"
~ Affirmative; Affirmative ~
Ghes sighed, and felt resigned to having to head to the base. But as he approached the other holodeck, he had the misfortune of accidentally checking what program was running. Hmm, interesting, he thought as he took a closer look, and he decided it would be alright for him to walk in and join whoever was in there.

“Cmdr Matthew All Senior Operations staff, please report to conference room 1 at 1300 hours today for a General briefing. Shore Leave for all Operations Staff will end at 2130 Hours today. Please be prepared. To get back to work “
With that James put down the ships manifest and sighed. There was lot of work that needed to get done before this Ship could leave Space Dock
(Just at that moment Captain Ghes Walk In to Operations)
"Ah, Commander," Ghes said as Matthew looked up, "The computer said you were aboard, and here you are. How go preparations?" he asked, eyeing the pile of PADDs at the Commander's desk with little envy.
“ I would like to say great but its not we have a lot of new personal coming on board for all departments along with A large Shipment of weapons for CSTO to sing off on as well as some new supply’s for the ship all department will have there hands full we have some ship systems on board that have not been tested yet But we hope to be combat ready By the time the New XO Come on board

Vin smiled and nodded to TLana. "I understand, I'm mines second host, her original host was not in starfleet or anything she was a mother of 2, would have been 3 but died during birth." He said.
Vinnie got to thinking. "I was wondering if you don't mind me asking, are you married, or have a boyfriend?"
<Tiana>
He nodded, not sure where to go with it. "I'm heading to the promenade to get something to eat." Vin said.

Lieutenant Commander Cohen looked at the core a small grin appearing over the corner of his lips. The core had yet to have been activated the forcefield that typically protected it was not erected. He stepped past where it should be and gently ran the very tips of his fingers over it. "She is quite magnificant isn't she?" He asked nobody in particular out of all the systems this was his favorite. There was so much about the core, how it and the nacelles worked together to push the starship through space past lightspeed. Humans had tried for so many years to try, and get past that one speed. It truly amazed him as he walked around it looking at it with eyes wide like a child.
As he walked around it he kept his hand on it eventually he looked away towards the entry of engineering. All the thoughts and questions as to why he had been transferred seemed to vanish from his mind. The overwhelming happiness consumed him as he made his way from main engineering to the office set aside for the engineering chief. He laid his box down that he had carried on board and in silence he took the small wooden plaque from the box that rested on top. On the plaque was a small crest and beneath it was his name. The top crest was that of the Cohen's, the ones that really mattered to him. In silence he placed it on the shelf, and placed each small object from his previous office inside this one. His clothing and uniforms remained inside his temporary quarters.
After a moment he left his new office seeing some of the people standing there looking at him, "Well?"
He heard one of them ask and he would nod. "I like it, seems fitting for a fine engineering staff. Any word on who will all be on board aside from myself and Machi?"
"Yes, Commander."
James seen the man hold out a PADD containing all the personnel for the roster of the new ship. He nodded, "Thank you." And, with that he left the ship and went towards his temporary room to catch some sleep. And, review the list that was in front of him now.

"will Do sir But I would help a lot to know what our Time schedule before we take our first Shake Down cruise"
"Well, Commander, I suppose this evening we should be preparing in earnest for that first outing. Fleet command have told me the ship's launch has been moved forward. We should be out of here in a couple of days. In that time I'd like you to conduct some tests, proving ship readiness in the context of your role as Ops officer. How you proceed with these tests will be your choice, as it is my order and not the base's."

Gheskori's time in holodeck two was limited to say the least. Giant semi-humanoid animals swung from poles fixed to the ceiling high above; a large conglomeration of people, all seemingly excited, gathered around watching the spectacle. Ghes found himself in the middle of a large circular arena, and as he turned around - upon disappearance of the Arch - he had to dodge a swinging beast. The mass of people in the crowd surrounding him on all sides, cheered, and he spun to face the nearest of them, raising an eyebrow.
It appeared he'd landed himself in the middle of some great entertainment arena. When he'd happened to look at the name of the program running, he'd had no idea of what a circus was, and now that he knew he had the most compelling desire to leave.
"Hello, sir." He twisted to see an oddly dressed fellow veer across his line of vision; the man smiled animatedly, "Mind out for the cossacks, sir, here they come!" Horns and the solid beating of equine hooves went off all around him, and he winced as his sensitive ears took the audial barrage. While this was all very fun, he had to leave. Walking away, he was narrowly missed by the thrashing legs of a group of horses, and a man with a pasted white face sprang up in front of him, gibbering nonsense at high speed.
Ghes smiled, then shrugged the oddball off. "Please, I have to return to my environment," he said politely. The man - or was it a woman - continued jumping in his face. "Arch!" Ghes called, and pushed past the vulgarly attired fellow to the holodeck's exit. He huffed coming into the corridor; bemused at the simulation and also partly annoyed at his inability to engage with it as he'd like to, he wondered who could be running such a program.. and where they might've been in that expansive, mad interior.
But then he smiled; no... he thought he'd leave that person in peace. Whoever it was had a definitively colourful perception of life.

Gheskori found himself wandering back to the Starbase. He didn't know how he kept finding himself bouncing between it and the ship, it seemed his restlessness took on larger proportions during times of shore leave; regardless of whether there was a whole station's facilities to explore, every time there was a break he felt even more of a yearning to roam... Thirst for exploration during rest, less so during assignment; it was a curious dilemma.
The promenade was packed. Everywhere he looked and everywhere he tried to go there were great floods of personnel, civilians and animals, even a group of an odd tripedal species clambering their way down outside a group of shops. The place was even more colourful than usual, it seemed, as if the whole place had decided to take on a vibrancy as part of a personality of its own.
Gheskori pushed through a couple of people, and much to his agreement he came out in front of Vin and Tiana, former shipmates and new shipmates, talking next to a wall outside a gloomy but atmospheric-looking bar.
"Ah, Commander, Ensign..." he acknowledged, then asked guardedly, "I'm not interrupting anything am I?"
<Tag Tiana, Vin>
Ghes nodded, smiling with typical Denobulan glee - understated, in an alien kind of way. "Understood. So you were off to get some food, Ensign? Tell me, what's the venue of your choice?" he peered beyond the Trill at the dark setting beyond - perhaps they served food as well as drink.
<Tag Vin>
Laughing, Ghes rotated around, seeking out any other potential venues for Wolf's benefit. He hadn't decided if he wanted anything yet but his ever-eager stomach was beginning to give signs.
Feeling fully assured that the other two could handle themselves - as all three of them drifted like electrons along the bars - Ghes peered down the length of promenade he'd come from earlier en route to the ship. Still he persisted with his speaking, unaware of any reservations regarding this activity the other two might've had. "You could always try a Denobulan place. Only one on the station, recently setup I'm told."
He walked beside Tiana for a while, turning over thoughts in his head, seemingly able to occupy his thought with multiple matters and issues, all driven by elation and enthusiasm. He looked pensive, "So, tomorrow I'll be calling a senior staff meeting for the crew, so we can discuss our pre-assignment." He brightened and smiled at the Science officer, "Yes, we've been issued a mission, yet to be announced of course..."
Amongst his speedy chatter Gheskori considered what he'd heard Tiana say about physical training. Of course, he had his expertise in physical training, having boxed Vulcans and Klingon trainers at the academy, but he didn't want to step on Vin's toes, or indeed, remind Tiana that she was at this moment feeling vulnerable.

James had been completed the task of getting the rest of his items on board the Enzio. Upon arrival inside engineering he found personnel already beginning to complete their checks before he had even given the order to do so. A smile appeared on his face as he heard the hum of the warp engines powering up and seeing a blue figure standing next to a nearby console. "Lieutenant Machi should have known you would be here taking away my glory!" He spoke to the Bolian asssistant with a smile on his features.
Machi looked at James and nodded, "I presumed we should get this place ready to go prior to leaving spacedock."
James nodded as a Vulcan crewman walked next to him handing him a datapad. "Thank you Petty Officer Salvak." He said recognizing the person that had handed him the information. It was the report on all the systems everything was in perfect condition. He handed the PADD to Machi, "Here Lieutenant please review this and place it on my desk when you're finished."
"Aye sir."
James watched as the bolian turned his attention once more towards the console in front of him. The Commander then turned in time to hear the doors open and another officer, a commander, walk through his doors into his sactum.
“James walk in to Main Engineering for the first time wow’’ Lt, Cmdr Cohen this place is so clean you can eat off the Consoles my Names is Cmdr James Matthew the ship chief of operations I been meaning to get down here but my schedule has kelp me from doing so this is my first time ever serving on one this class of Advanced Tactical Strike Cruiser lass really has a Interphasic Cloaking Device on board let me tell we have been on a lot of mission that having a. Cohen smiled weakly he was very busy himself not all the systems had been brought online yet. The computer core was one of these, and he was just on his way to check on the progress of this event when Commander Matthew arrived. Though the compliment was slightly relieving, "Well when you have the best engineering staff in Starfleet." He answered the remark about the cleanliness. He nodded, "I served aboard the El'Salvador under Commodore Savot." He was unaware of the cloaking device.
<Tag Matthew>
At this point a Benzite walked next to him, "Commander Cohen a moment please sir?"
James looked at the Ensign who was taller then himself, "You're my senior computer systems specialist?"
"Yes sir."
Cohen smiled, "I presumed as much, how is the computer coming along Ensign?"
"We are almost online Commander, however we are having trouble getting the connection between Stellar Cartography and the helm on the bridge."
James sighed, "I see, please prepare a report, and escort a team to the bridge see if you can localize the problem from there?"
"Aye sir."
"Report to me once your finished." He said and watched as the Ensign walked away. He then turned his attention back on Commander Matthew, "My apologies...You were saying Commander?"

Adam had reported in on the Starbase and made his way to his new ship: the USS Enzio, a Prometheus Class vessel like the USS El Salvador Adam had served on as Chief Tactical and Security Officer. This would be Adam's third posting as First Officer and the Commander was looking forward to serving under his former shipmate, Gheskori.
Parsons passed by officers and crewmen hustling from place to place readying the ship for its shakedown cruise. The XO was pleased that his most recent CO, Admiral Sonak, would be serving as a diplomatic officer onboard the Enzio. After dumping a few things off in his barren quarters, Parsons made his way to the bridge to report in to Captain Gheskori.
When Adam arrived on the bridge, he was surprised to learn that the Captain was on the starbase. The new ship's XO reported in to the bridge duty officer and left him in charge on the bridge. Adam asked and was informed that Commander James Matthew was the senior officer on the ship until the Captain's return. The XO touched a panel on the Captain's chair, "Commander Matthew, please report to the bridge." While he waited, Parsons roved around the bridge checking the status of the various departments and re-familiarized himself with a Prometheus class bridge.
