After a few days travel from New London, the USS Raven arrived back at Starbase Bellicose, and they had Admiral mc7_of_9 with them. The mission to retrieve him was a success, but it wasnt without its complications.
Steve was just working in his quarters when the ship became fully docked. Now it was time to relax....He walked to his bed and opened the comms:
=/\= All hands, this is the captain. We are now officially on shore leave. Make sure you take this time to relax and enjoy yourselves. Smith out. =/\=
OOC: Take it away guys.

OOC: Just to warn you, it’s long!
IC:
=/\= All hands, this is the captain. We are now officially on shore leave. Make sure you take this time to relax and enjoy yourselves. Smith out. =/\=
E’Liana heard this and silently rejoiced. Joy and herself had spent the past couple of hours stock counting in sickbay and were bored stiff. Nothing was missing and everything was accounted for, but now it was up to someone else to restock what had been used, ready for the next mission. E’Liana took the personal effects from her desk and locked them into a drawer.
Joy had just gone and was packing her things, and E’Liana decided to follow her example. She had to go and help Grilka get ready to go home, and was worried that leaving a temperamental young Klingon alone with a poor little cat was a mistake.
And with that thought she hastily made her way to her quarters to pack for the shoreleave.
~*~
Grilka glared at the young cat and made her way warily to the replicator. She had almost finished packing her things but the cat had scratched her when she tried to pick it up. She hated the cat. She didn’t understand why E’Liana kept it.
Keeping one eye on the cat, Grilka shifted around the wall and reached the replicator, intending to get some food for the cat so that it would leave her alone and stop attacking her.
“Feline supplement 6-0-2” she stuttered in her slowly-developing English. The cat food materialised on the pad and she picked it up and placed it carefully on the floor, trying to keep eye contact with said feline.
Grilka watched as Lursa rose and stretched lazily and casually wandered towards the food before sniffing it warily. Having decided that the young girl did not want to kill her, Lursa tucked in.
Grilka was still glaring at the cat who was munching happily away when E’Liana came in.
“I’m exhausted” E’Liana grumbled in Klingon, deciding not to harass the child into speaking English just now. “Please, Grilka, go and start the shower. Not the sonic one, the water one.” She looked pleadingly at her cousin and Grilka sulked her way into the bathroom.
“Have you finished packing?” She called to the girl, looking around the room. All she could see were her own things.
“Yes…” Was the reply.
“How’s Lursa?” “Fine…”
E’Liana closed her eyes momentarily. She had no idea why Grilka was being like this, and right now she didn’t much care.
She carefully took her jacket off and threw it on the bed, eyeing her suitcase under the bed. Grilka came back in, having closed the bathroom door to let it steam up.
“I’ve finished packing and Lursa is horrible. She scratched me. I want to go and say goodbye to the hologram.”
“Grilka, we’ve talked about this. The EMH is a machine, he doesn’t care about people, he is simply a tool to do some of our work.”
“He looks like a person so he is.”
E’Liana sighed heavily. She was far too tired, far more tired than she actually realised. “I’m going in the shower. I’ll be back soon, please just sit and be quiet.” She rubbed her head. She knew the signs of fatigue, but was trying to ignore the suddenly pounding headache that was developing between her temples.
~*~
“E’Liana!” She heard him before she could see him. “Huraga, good to see you.” She replied calmly. She heard a squeal from her side and Grilka ran towards him so fast that E’Liana thought she would fall.
“Father!” She shouted in Klingon. He looked at her sternly and she stopped immediately in her tracks. She would have to speak English now.
Her father laughed loudly at the look on his young daughters face and picked her up with one gigantic arm.
They spoke briefly, E’Liana couldn’t hear them properly. She reached them and place Grilka’s bag on the floor beside them.
Huraga looked at her with a big grin, showing many of his teeth. “Thank you for looking after my little warrior. Come, we must eat!”
~*~
After seeing them off, E’Liana made her way back to her temporary quarters on the Starbase to relax. She sat in her chair with Lursa on her lap and read some good old Klingon romance…

Unlike many of the crew, Torek hadn't taken temporary quarters on the Starbase, he'd offered to stay on board and help oversee the repairs .. Besides, there was no need for him to move off-ship, His mother, T'Survn, had already spoken to him via sub-space. She had explained that her commitments didn't allow her to get away at the moment. But she would be in the Sector a few months from now for a development conference, so they would meet up then .. Carl was still trying to get used to the names and faces of the Raven's crew. But now it seemed that everyone he saw was a complete stranger, Engineering Staff from over on the Starbase were everywhere, it seemed .. Only a skeleton crew had stayed aboard the ship to oversee the repairs and upgrades they needed .. Carl had gone down to the Shuttle-bay well over an hour ago. He was in the control booth watching as the massive new door was being maneuvered into place ready to be fitted. It was currently floating, only meters from what would become it's final resting place .. The Engineers, while seeming to take their time were doing exactly the opposite. They had to get this right, and first time ! "Lieutenant ?" ... "Lieutenant .. Are you OK ?" asked a technician, slightly concerned Torek hadn't answered him the first time. "What .. Oh sorry Ensign .. Must have been day-dreaming there for a moment .. Did you want something ?" "Just needed to let you know they're bringing the door in now .. We need to clear the room Sir." "OK .. Yes." Carl replied. Sighing, He decided to go back to his quarters, shower, and change into civilian clothing. Maybe then he'd go over to the Starbase to get a bite to eat .. A wander around the bases promenades would pass some time before his next shift .. He wasn't at all happy sitting around, and looked forward to the Raven heading out once again .......... < tag : Come on crew >

From a horizontal position, the blurry scene wove slowly back into shape. Missing bits of the puzzle were now falling into place as Rio screwed up her eyes in focus. Her head felt heavy on one side, like the contents of it had all sunk to that edge and was pressing against the inside of her skull. One of her ears was pressed against the ground, and through the other she could hear the distant muffle of voices. She thought they must belong to people very far away, because they seemed to be getting quieter all the time. The more she tried to listen, the further away they seemed to get. Her eyes were almost fully open now, but they had a misty shell that stopped her from seeing properly. The voices had all gone now, she must be alone.
With a low groan she tried to lift herself off the floor. Her body raised a little, and pins and needles shot up her arm as the sensation returned. She held her breath, perched a few centimeters off the floor. Her hips were heavy, but they were beginning to come round to the idea of moving. Her head, however, felt as though it had been stapled to the floor, and flatly refused to become dislodged. Panting, she collapsed back down, crushing her arm under her own weight. She closed her eyes, murmuring words of encouragement to her limbs. She rolled onto her front, and with both her hands underneath her pushed herself onto her knees. Crouched in the prone position, she fought to lift her head into the air. At first it was like pulling on very strong Velcro, but eventually she prized her forehead off the ceramic stone and peered at the ruins surrounding her.
Until fairly recently, the holodeck had depicted an ancient Krymerian temple that would have been the equivelant size of an old Earth fortress. The golden walls and iconic grandeur had been in excellent condition until a few moments before, when her squad had failed to disarm the ion bomb that had been hidden inside of it. In the resulting blast, Rio had been flung through the parapet and out into the entrance hall, slamming the top of her head into the descending stone stairway. Feeling as though she was going to be quite sick with the movement, the marine hauled herself to her unsteady feet, grabbing what was left of the pillar for support. Taking a few deep breaths she steadied herself, her eyes falling on the hunched form of her second. They had been the last ones to leave the building when the bomb went off, and had only made it as far as the hall. Jason was sat cross legged, cradling a shattered and bleeding arm, but smiling all the same.
“Looks like we’re out of practice.” He said shakily.
Rio left the holodeck at a meager pace, a lump the size of a small shuttle appearing on the side of her head. She supposed Jason had been right – the pair of them had spent the last few months involved on an intensive pilot training course, a far cry from the ground assault situations they had been used to training in. The young Captain had thoroughly enjoyed her time at the helm of a prowler, and had a new fondness for the flight simulations now she was back on Starbase Bellicose, but they had never held quite the same “life-or-death” feeling she got from the hand to hand scenarios.
The journey to her quarters was agonizingly slow, and after standing up straight in the shower had made her body ache to more extreme heights. She wished simply just to collapse onto the bed and think about nothing but a blissful sleep, but unfortunately there wasn’t time. The Raven had been back several hours already, and she was far too eager to catch up with her old friends to let a little something like being blown up get in the way. She had heard many interesting tales over the last few days, and grinning mischievously as she cast her eye over the box hidden underneath her desk. As if on cue, it gave a small shudder as the object inside shifted position. She finished dressing, looking slightly healthier than before, and scooped up the box. It was time to visit an old friend.
Rio slammed her hand onto the doorbell and winced slightly as her bruised wrist bent a little the wrong way. She waited only a few moments before Steven opened the door. He looked up expectantly, wondering who would be calling on him.
“You.” He said in surprise, a smile forming on his lips.
Rio grinned. “A little bird told me you took the plunge.” Steven looked slightly abashed before his cheeks reddened. He couldn’t help grinning though. He motioned for her to enter and she took at seat on the couch as the door slid shut. She placed the box on the little table and Steven eyed it suspiciously as it made a soft hissing sound.
“It’s a belated wedding present.” She said, as though it had been obvious all along.
He wasn’t sure whether to smile or not, so settled on sarcasm. “Great, you bought me one of those hissing boxes I’ve always wanted.”
“Very funny.” She scolded. “Aren’t you going to open it?”
Sighing, the man leant forwards tentatively and flipped the catch on the lid. Before he could open it fully it was wrenched out of his hand as a black shape shot out of it and landed its claws deep in the sofa. With a squeal it sped off, zooming across the room before finally running itself to a halt under his desk. Steve looked on apprehensively as the cat made a serious of low, grumbling sounds. Then he shrugged, wondering why he had expected anything less unusual from the arbitrary marine.

Arya decided to spend some time in her office before heading over to the Starbase. She noticed Nua was happily flapping around as she tried out her wings. She wondered how long before Nua would actually be flying. Arya tried not to think about that as Nua climbed up her arm and onto her shoulder.
"So, you wish to ride on my shoulder again. Okay, don't hurt me, and try to be quiet. I don't like it when you squawk in my ear,” she said and headed off to find a nice place to get something cool to drink.
Arya found a nice seat by a window in a nice restaurant on the base. She sighed happily ah she sipped a large glass of apple juice. She was expecting Steve to be along, but she wasn’t sure when. She took out a padd, and started to write on it wondering what would sound best for a girl. She also wondered what names Steve might wish.
Arya had been sitting for an hour, and she sighed remembering the appointment she had set. ~It seems he will have to meet me in Sickbay, or not attend this.~ She thought, and finished her juice before leaving. She forgot about Nua as she headed back to the ship to see the doctor.
Once in Sickbay, she sat on a biobed and waited for the good doctor to see her. Finally E'Liana showed ready to begin it seemed.
“Okay doc, if possible, I would like to know the gender.”

Carl had been on the Starbase for a couple of hour's, and frankly, the boredom was beginning to get to him .. He wasn't a 'shopper' and artifacts from other Worlds and Cultures didn't rate high on his list of interests.
He decided to get something to eat then head back to the Raven, when someone spoke ..
"Ahh .. It's 'Lieutenant' now I see .."
Carl turned, not sure if the voice was addressing him, or someone close-by ..
"Lieutenant Valenti .. Carmen Valenti .. I logged you in when you first arrived." said a young woman, then suddenly realized that this man likely didn't have a clue as to who she was, "Sorry .. I just wanted to congratulate you and the crew on getting the Admiral back safely." she was rambling and she knew it, but it was possible he was 'worth the embarrassment' she thought.
"Oh .. Yes .. I remember you .. Yes we did get him back OK .. Hardly down to me though .. Captain Smith and the whole crew got the mission done."
"Well he's certainly been rewarded for it ..." she said nodding.
"Pardon ?" asked Carl.
"Oh ..." she replied, suddenly thinking she may have said something she shouldn't have, "I'm sure the Raven will be rewarded for rescuing Admiral Mc"
"Wouldn't have thought so .. It was the mission we were given .. Everyones just happy to have him back and recovering nicely .. Hardy cause for pomp and ceremony." he said, smiling.
They were quiet for a few seconds, each deciding on what to say next ...
"Were you abo ...." they said in unison, then both laughed.
"You first." said Carl graciously.
"Well .. I was going to ask if you would like to join me for a drink and a bite to eat .. or were about to get back to the ship ?"
"I'd like to join you yes." Carl said, almost shyly.
The pair walked along the promanade before entering a quiet bar, Carl held out a chair for her to sit then signaled a steward before sitting himself ..
"Hmm .. Samarian Sunset please." Carmen told the steward, without taking her eye's off Carl.
"Antarean Brandy please."
The Steward nodded and went off to get the drinks ..........

E'Liana made her way back to the Raven for her appointment with Arya Smith, deciding to forego her uniform, instead having her civilian clothes on with her doctors lab coat on over the top.
They were there waiting for her when she got there, so E'Liana thought it best to start: "Well, let's see how you both are doing" she said, gesturing for Arya to sit down on the biobed whilst she grabbed a tricorder.
She muttered to herself as she scanned the young woman. "Well, congratulations! It's a girl!"
<TAG Arya/Steven>
"I feel I should warn you, Arya, that due to your own mixed heritage there are a few dangers that you need to be aware of. The Human heart is aligned differently to the Bajoran one, and of course there are the Cardassian factors to consider. I am of course going to do some research on this as hybrid reproduction is an area of interest for myself, but I would suggest that you do the same..."

Carl had really enjoyed the meal and drinks with Carmen .. She'd told him a few things about herself. She was here on Bellicose alone, and was part of the Operations staff. They had something in common, Both had lost family at Wolf 359... But, as neither wanted to spoil the mood, they changed the subject quickly.. She did say that although she was based here, she was hoping to get a posting on a Starship one day soon. Carl felt a momentary twinge at the thought of not getting to see her again .. Silly, but there it was just the same. After leaving the bar, they wandered around the promenade for a while, chatting and window shopping, until Carmen noticed a poster in one of the Bajoran shops ... "Ahh .. There's going to be a Bajoran festival here tomorrow." she said excitedly, though Carl had the feeling she knew full well the festival was on, before pointing it out to him .. "Oh .. Never seen one to be honest." he said, smiling, "Whats this one for ?" Carmen studied the poster ... "Erm .. It's called Ha'mara .. Something to do with the Emissary .. They celebrate it on Bejor, but there's going to be a small celebration here too." she said, walking slowly from the window. As they reached the turbo-lifts she stopped .. "I need to get back to my quarters .. I really enjoyed today .. If you aren't busy tomorrow .. Maybe we could take a look at that festival .. together ?" she said, then continued without giving Carl time to speak, "I finish my shift at Sixteen hundred .. So we could meet afterwards .. The Festival itself won't get started until maybe Eighteen or Nineteen hundred .. Oh listen to me .. You may well be busy !" she finished, blushing slightly. "I'm not .. At least not at the moment .. I'd like that yes .." Carl replied, watching as her neck and face reddened even more each second .. They agreed to meet at the same bar at Seventeen thirty hours. He watched as she entered the lift, smiling and giving him a small wave as the doors closed .. Carl headed back to the Raven.. He had things to do.. One of which was checking with the Raven's Chief Engineer on the status of the new Shuttlebay door .......... < tag : Scott >

=/\= All hands, this is the captain. We are now officially on shore leave. Make sure you take this time to relax and enjoy yourselves. Smith out. =/\= McLean took a moment to enjoy his moment of "Shore Leave" before diving back into the PADD that contained the list of repairs and upgrades that always accompanied coming back to a Starbase. McLean had to admit that these were the times he treasured most, the engine room was busy with life, and there was work to be done. Never a dull moment, McLean thought as he scrolled down a page on his PADD. As he walked the length of Main Engineering checking on the various engineers he thought back to his sessions with the ships counselor. He laughed to himself as he finally realized he was the a-typical workaholic. The sad thing was that he rather enjoyed it, and found down time hard to swallow. "Commander?" McLean heard from behind him. "Yes." McLean replied turning around to face a baby faced crewman. "I'm sorry to bother you sir, but I have another data PADD for you." The crewman said as he extended out the PADD for McLean to take. McLean couldn't help but smile at the PADD, "Thanks." McLean said sending the young man rushing off to accomplish yet another task. "Commander McLean," McLean heard over the COM system, "we are ready to install the new Shuttle bay doors." "Go ahead." McLean replied, "Just keep me updated if you have any problems." "Aye sir." McLean stopped in his place and raised his eye brow in a curious manner, he knew he had never worked on the heavy construction of a star ship so how was he supposed to help them with the installation if they ran into problems? McLean pushed that thought to the side as he looked down at the new PADD that was just given to him. "Coded?" McLean said with some confusion to himself as he tried to open the file. With a few swift thumb taps on the PADD the file finally opened. Scott,
There really isn't any easy way to say this, so I will just say it. I'm leaving. I can't stand living life on this station anymore!
I never wanted you to rejoin Starfleet but you did anyways. I wanted us to have a family back home on Earth, not live on some space station on the edge of the frontier. This isn't the life I had envisioned for our children and I won't let them suffer because you are unwilling to come home.
I will be taking the kids and staying back on Earth with my parents. If you choose to leave Starfleet and come back to Earth to help raise our kids I think we can work out our problems. If you choose to stay in Starfleet then all you need to do is imprint your thumb on this PADD to finalize the divorce papers. That way you can be with your one true love, Starfleet.
Stephanie McLean let out a few choice ancient Earth curse words under his breath as he finished the letter. Deep down inside McLean knew it was only a matter of time before this happened and he hated it. His marriage was on the rocks ever since he decided to return to Starfleet, but Stephanie had been the one that encouraged him to go back. McLean's eyes scanned Main Engineering until they finally fell upon his office, his own private universe, his comfort zone. He walked slowly toward his universe and with each step be felt as if he starting to somehow become more in control of what was going on. The door to his office slide open with it's normal hiss, the sound of technology didn't put the engineer at ease as it normally had done in the past. Sitting down at his desk McLean reached underneath him into a small hidden compartment. Inside he pulled out a old bottle of scotch. Reading the lable McLean said, "Not a bad year."

Steve just stood in his quarters glancing back and forth from the cat and Rio. Just like every other time when his ship has been docked at a Starbase, Steve had chosen to use his quarters on the ship instead of using some on the base. It just felt like home this way. He thought about hsis plans for the day, remembering that he was going to meet up with Arya at some point. 'Must remember to find out where she will be' He thought to himself.
He approached Rio and sat down. "So....how have you been?" He asked, then rolled his eyes. "I am so sorry, I almost forgot. Would you like something to drink?" He added as an afterthought.
Just before she could reply, Steve's console beeped. He got up to look at it and it indicated that he had recieved a message from Starfeet.
"That can wait." He said. "If it was that important it would have been a video transmission."

Heading back to the Raven, Torek stopped at the observation windows to watch the shuttle-bay door being maneuvered into place before final fitting .. Two small maintenance shuttles were using tractors to hold it steady .. It seemed to Carl that one shuttle, along with it's side of the door was moving slightly faster than the other. His suspicions were correct ! As he watched, one of the shuttles veered off to the side, increasing speed and taking the door with it .. It was trying desperately to correct but with no luck. It was going to collide with the Raven .. Suddenly, alarms sounded and a tractor beam from the dockside lanced out to grip the runaway shuttle. Carl hit his Comms badge ... =^= Commander Torek to Shuttle in distress .. What's going on up there ? =^= =^= Power failures Sir .. I'm trying to correc ....... =^= The Comms went dead as the operator struggled with the now locked controls of his craft .. He was slowing, thanks to the tractor, but not enough, and the second shuttle was loosing it's battle to stop the door hitting the Raven ! It was obvious to Carl they were going to collide. He began running the length of the massive windows towards the access ramp, never letting his eye's leave the scene outside. When he was stopping in his tracks as a second, much more powerful tractor beam, lanced across the Space-Dock. It grasped both the door and the careering shuttle. Halting both in under a second. Carl followed the beam to it's starting point ... A gleaming white Starship ... Prometheus Class ... 'Got to thank whoever had the sense to use that tractor' he thought, as he began to head down the tunnel leading to the Raven .. hoping nothing was damaged and no-one on-board was injured .......... < tag : Scott / Anyone >

Bleep, bleep. Steve’s console suddenly flittered into life, informing him that he had a Starfleet message. Looking as though he really didn’t want to the Commander dragged himself to his feet and shot Rio an apologetic look for the interruption. She watched in silence as he strode over to the computer and cast his eye over the message. Subconsciously she rubbed the back of her right hand, which was still aching from the crushing it had received on the holodeck. She wondered what E'Liana would say if she knew about all the times Rio had omitted to visit sickbay on occasions like this. Just then Steve crossed into her vision.
"That can wait." He said. "If it was that important it would have been a video transmission."
“In that case, I’ll have something with caffeine in it, if you don’t mind.” Rio asked, suddenly remembering how exhausted she was feeling. Steve smiled and crossed to the replicator.
“Tough training session?” He asked mischievously. Perhaps he knew her too well.
She nodded. “I’ve got McLean programming them for me. He’s not half bad at it.” She said in half-scoff.
“I would imagine not. Real coffee, by the way.” He added, placing a steaming mug in front of her.
“Thanks.” She took the mug in her hands and started to sip. She had thought it might perk her up a bit, but presently it was having the opposite affect. She quite wanted just to lie down on his sofa and sleep. Steve dropped down onto the other end of it, his own cup cradled in his hands.
”He’s a crafty little guy actually…” Rio continued “So far he’s nearly killed me twice…”
Steve found it difficult to tell from her tone whether she minded this or not, but he laughed anyway. Even the marine couldn’t help smiling. It was good to see a familiar face again after so long. With a pang of sadness she remembered that it was very unlikely they would ever be serving with one another again. She had recently been informed that she was receiving a transfer, but had yet to tell any of the Raven crew about it. She had been quite looking forward to returning to her post there, but apparently it was not to be.
With a sudden ‘whooshing’ noise the lights in the room shot from moody yellow to blinding red. Rio instinctively awaited the claxon that usually accompanied them, but none came. Both officers were now on their feet, coffee cups discarded, searching for the source of the alert.
“All hands brace for impact.” The computed announced unthreateningly. Rio met Steve’s gaze as she reached towards the desk and waited. Several moments passed in silence. Then several more.
“Uhm…” Steve said, looking unsure. “I don’t feel anything…”
Rio shook her head. “I didn’t even know we could go on red alert in spacedock.” She commented unhelpfully.
“We’d better go see what that was.” He said with concern, already heading towards the door. Rio put up no argument and followed in his wake, putting up with the discomfort of walking for the time being. Steve headed directly for the turbolift, and ordered it to the bridge. When it came to a standstill they pilled out of the door, almost knocking over an officer headed the other way. Steve stopped in surprise.
“Carl…” He addressed him. “We were just coming to check on the situation up here.”
The man smiled. “Commander.” He answered with a nod. “Everything is under control. There was an accident involving one of the base shuttles…” He explained.
“Any damage?” Steve asked, moving a little further onto the bridge and having a look round for himself. He turned back while the man was talking.
“A little, but McLean has it under control.” He said calmly. Steve looked satisfied.
“Oh, sorry…” he remembered suddenly as he looked between Carl and Rio. “Commander Torek, Rio Jackson, our Senior Marine Officer.” He introduced them. On cue Commander Torek stepped in to shake the marines hand. Instinctively Rio took a slight step back from the close proximity while she shook it. Neither of the men seemed to notice.
“Oh is that the time!!” Steve suddenly yelped. “I have to run, I said I’d meet Arya ten minutes ago.” He excused himself and tore off the bridge. Rio looked guarded, and made a mental note of adding marriage to the ‘don’t try this at home’ list. An awkward silence ensued in the wake of Steve’s departure. Rio was never very good when meeting new people, unless you counted marine recruits, in which case she would have them circuit training within minutes. Luckily Carl seemed to have had more experience.
“Can I walk you back to the 'base?” He asked in a most gentlemanly manner.

Carl had rushed up to the Bridge, contacting Commander McLean on the way, who was heading to the Shuttle-bay to see what he could do from there .. As he jumped from the lift, he saw an Ensign stood watching the view screen as both the door, and damaged shuttle, were being held immobile by a tractor beam from the nearby vessel .. "Ensign." said Carl, approaching the Command area, "What's the name of that ship out there ?" "Oh." said the Ensign, startled at not having noticed Torek's entrance, "It's the USS Olympia Sir .. She arrived a few day's ago .. awaiting a crew I think .. There's talk tha ....." "I didn't ask for the newsletter Ensign .. Open a channel please." "Channel open Sir." said the Ensign seconds later. =^= Raven to Olympia =^= =^= Olympia .. Go ahead Raven =^= =^= Commander Torek .. Chief Operations Officer .. Who do I have to thank for the help ? =^= =^= Erm .. That would be me Sir .. Lieutenant Greaves =^= =^= Then thank you Lieutenant .. Is your Commanding Officer there ? =^= =^= There isn't a Commanding Officer at the moment Sir .. We are part of the transfer crew assigned to bring the Olympia here .. So we just have caretaking duty untill the CO reports on board =^= =^= Well thanks again .. Close call there =^= Carl said. =^= No problem Sir .. We'll hold the shuttle and the door while the Dock-Master gets tugs over to secure both door and Shuttle .. Olympia out =^= The Comms closed, and with a last look at the view-screen to assure himself all was well, Carl headed for the turbo lift .. But a before he reached it the doors opened and the Captain, along with a Marine, almost leapt out, nearly colliding with Torek ... "Carl…" Smith said, "We were just coming to check on the situation up here." "Captain." answered Torek, "Everything is under control. There was an accident involving one of the base shuttles…" "Any damage ?" Steve asked, moving a little further onto the bridge and having a look round for himself. He turned back while Carl was explaining. "A little to the shuttle only .. But Commander McLean has gone to the Shuttle-bay to ensure it's under control at this end." He said calmly. Steve looked satisfied. "Oh .. Sorry…" he remembered suddenly as he looked between Carl and Rio, "Commander Torek .. Rio Jackson .. Our Senior Marine Officer." He introduced them .. On cue Commander Torek stepped in to shake the marines hand. Instinctively Rio took a slight step back from the close proximity while she shook it. Neither of the men seemed to notice. Glancing at the chronometer above the view screen, the Captain suddenly remembered he was due, and late, to meet his wife .. "Oh .. Is that the time .. I'm due to meet Arya .. Keep me informed Carl." He said quickly as he darted into the waiting lift, leaving both Rio and Carl looking at the now closed doors ... Carl hated awkward moments, he'd been in a few, and this seemed to be turning into one ... "Can I walk you back to the base ?" he asked Rio, hoping it sounded Gentlemanly, and not a hint for her to leave, "Or are you staying aboard ?" .......... < tag : Rio / Cptn / All >

The familiar tingle of the scotch touched McLean's lips, it was the first time in a long time that he had a drink. The warm sensation continued on from his lips, through his mouth and down to his belly and from there it seemed to course through out his entire body. McLean felt a strange calm come over his body as he put away a second straight shot.
The data PADD sat on his desk to his right, mocking him every chance he dared to look at it.
"Commander McLean," Called a voice over the COM system, "We have a problem down here in Shuttle bay two."
"What is it?" McLean replied not wanting to have to deal with any more problems today.
"Sir, one of the repair shuttles has had an accident."
The last word struck McLean hard and he found himself pulled from the depths of sorrow back to his duties.
"Was there any damage?" McLean asked sounding more interesting than he was moments ago.
"No sir."
McLean burst from his seat and bolted out of his office. He walked with a determined pace past several other officers, Deep down inside he hoped he was not swaying while he walked, for he could feel the two shots of scotch starting to kick in.
"Have you contacted the officer in charge of the repair units from Bellicose?" McLean asked.
"No sir, not yet."
"Why not?" McLean angrily asked.
"Well sir-"
"Well nothing," McLean interrupted, "You need to make sure you go through the proper channels. I'm not in charge of external repairs, those are being over seen by the Bellicose Chief Starship repairs officer."
"...aye sir."
McLean finally made his way to Shuttle Bay Two. He found several engineering officers as well as Bellicose repair techs standing around surveying the scene. McLean noticed that even with the loss of one repair shuttle craft they still managed to get one of the doors installed.
"Report." McLean barked to the gathered group of officers.
A tall female Starbase repair officer turned quickly on her heels to face McLean. Instantly he felt his heart drop, she out ranked him.
"You must be Lt. Commander McLean." She stated.
"I am." McLean replied, trying to keep his distance so she wouldn't be able to smell the alcohol on his breath, "And you are?"
"Commander Viars." She said.
"Well Commander, would you like to tell me how this all happened?" McLean asked in a stern tone.
"Actually, I want to know why you weren't here to over see these repairs." Viars rebutted.
"That's not my job, that's your job." McLean fired back.
"I beg to differ. This ship is your responsibility, and-"
"This ship is my responsibility, but it's your responsibility to make sure your teams does their jobs right. I have an entire ship to look after all you have to do is install a few shuttle bay doors. I didn't think it would have been that hard!"
"That will be enough Lt. Commander." Viars said putting the emphasis on McLean's rank.
"You are right that is enough. I want you off my ship...now. and take you incompetent repair crew with you." McLean barked.
Commander Viars was at a loss for words, she had never been talked to like that in her entire career. McLean stood firm, looking straight into Viars' eyes. There was a tense moment of silence between the two officers, but finally Viars stepped in close to McLean.
"Do expect a full reprimand for behavior today." Viars said before leaving the Shuttle Bay.
McLean watched the female repair officer storm out of the Shuttle Bay, he could not help but crack as smile. For some odd reason he felt as if a massive weight had been lifted from his shoulders.
"Women." McLean grumbled under his breath.
"What was that sir?" Asked a nearby crewman.
"Nothing," McLean replied, "Contact Bellicose's repair division and request that they finish the botched job that they started. If anybody needs me I will be down in my officer finishing up my paper work before my shift ends."
"Aye sir." Replied the crewman.

Before Rio had the chance to answer, the duty Comms Officer interrupted them ...
"Sir .. I have a Commander Viars .. She is asking .. No .. Demanding to speak with the Captain."
"Excuse me." Carl said apologetically to Rio, then turned to the Comm, "Who is Commander Viars ?"
"She is the chief Engineer in charge of Ravens repairs Sir."
As far as Torek could see, the incident with the shuttle and the door was resolved, thanks to the Olympia.. No real damage had been done, so he wasn't sure if he should disturb the Captain until he knew what the issue actually was.. He decided to speak to her himself first, so tapped the comm panel ...
=^= Commander .. I'm Lieutenant Commander Torek .. Chief Operations Officer .. Is there something I can help you with .. There isn't a problem with the refitting is there ? =^=
=^= With the refit no .. With the way I've been treated and almost physically thrown from your ship ... YES ! =^=
Carl was bemused at this to say the least ..
=^= I'm sure there's been som ....... =^= he started to say, before getting interrupted.
=^= Don't give me excuses 'Lieutenant' Commander .. I don't get spoken to like that by 'anyone' .. Let alone by an inebriated Officer ! =^=
Torek looked from Rio to the Comms Officer ..
"Transfer this to the Captain's ready-room .. now." he said quietly, before heading towards the door ...
"Mind if I tag along ?" Jackson asked, and not waiting for a reply, followed Carl into the office.
=^= Commander =^= he said, as he sat at the desk.
=^= He ORDERED me off the Raven .. Do you hear me ? =^=
=^= I'm sure there is some kind of explanation .. Would you give me time to speak to him myself before taking this .. Issue .. Any higher ? =^=
=^= I don't think so .. I don't expect to be dismissed by a lower-ranked Officer .. Let alone one that has been drinking .. Where is the Captain ? =^=
Carl had to think quickly ...
=^= The Admiral is unconscious in Starbase Medical and Captain Smith is .. Indisposed at the moment .. So .. Unless you do intend to take this further .. I'd like the chance to sort it out .. =^=
Viars was fuming, and he knew it.. But even she wouldn't go over Mc's head, unconscious or not, without it being the last resort. She knew he had a point. He was Duty Officer, and as such expected to be given the respect the position held .. Besides, The Raven had just returned from a difficult and stressful mission .. 'A little leeway wouldn't hurt' she thought.
=^= Ok Commander .. Speak to the Engineer ..But I want a full apology .. If .. When he sobers up .. Do you understand me ! =^=
=^= I'm sure it won't be any prob ....... =^= Carl began, before Viars interrupted once again ..
=^= A full apology Commander .. Beta crew has taken over the refit .. But if there is a single issue involving that man .. I'll pull all work off the Raven .. And YOU can explain to Admiral Clark what the problem is =^= she finished before closing the Comm channel ..
Carl sat quietly for a moment, thinking ...
"You did the right thing." Rio said, from the other side of the desk, "Speak to Scott .. Then take it to Steve if necessary." she said, supportively.
Carl nodded tapping his Comms badge ..
=^= Commander Torek to Commander McLean =^=
=^= McLean =^=
=^= Scott .. I need to have a word with you .. Are you still in Engineering ? =^=
=^= I'm in my office =^= he replied, cutting the comm.
Carl hesitated, wondering even now if he should contact the Captain and let him deal with this ..........

Carl tapped his fingers on the desk. Twice he had stood up, changed his mind, and sat back down again. It was obvious he couldn’t decide what to do for the best. She knew exactly what she would do, but she couldn’t find an available spot to air her feelings. The state McLean was in right now there would be little or no point in taking the matter to Steven, it would only get the engineer into more trouble. There was always the argument for waiting until he had sobered up and confronting him with the complaint, but as she had gathered from the recent conversation, who knew when he would be ready listen. No, Scott was obviously wound up about something, and so much so that he had been drinking for a considerable time while on duty. There was no point in dragging him up in front of the Captain.
“I suggest we give him ten minutes to cool off.” Rio said casually as Carl got up for a third time. He shot her an impatient look. “We’ll go down and talk him.” She confirmed. “To start with, he’s my friend, and I want to know what’s wrong.”
Carl bobbed his head from side to side, trying to decide if her plan was a good one. It couldn’t hurt to go and talk to the man, like she said, they were all friends here…
“Have you known him long?” Carl asked, trying to think of something else to talk about while they passed the time. Rio nodded.
“Only since I joined the Raven. But we have always got on well.” She added thoughtfully. With her marine exterior talking most of the time, the young Captain always found it difficult to become openly close to her fellow officers, but deep down she felt very strongly towards Commander McLean. They had struck up a friendship in the first weeks of her appointment to the Raven, and since had spent many hours devising and running complicated holodeck scenarios. He was easy to be around, and most importantly always invited her to the ships social gatherings.
“This seems very out of character.” Carl agreed, bringing Rio’s thoughts back to the small dark office. She nodded in agreement, deciding she ought to sit down for a few minutes before they went down to engineering to speak with him. Gingerly she lowered herself into the slope-backed chair which stood at an angle to the Captains desk, her shoulders and back aching with the effort of the usually simple maneuver.
“Are you alright?” Carl asked, quizzically.
“What? Oh…” Rio blurted out, not used to the concern, “Yeah. We got blown up this morning…holodeck run.” She added, seeing the confusion on his face.
“Oh yes, Captain Smith mentioned that you liked to keep things real.” He said with a cheeky smile.
“McLean has been writing them for me actually, perhaps that’s why he keeps trying to kill me…?” she wondered aloud if it were possible that Scott was channeling his anger into increasingly deadly holodeck programs.
“Isn’t kill a bit of a strong word?” Carl asked tentatively.
Rio countered him quickly. “I’d like to hear you say that after he’s tried to blow you up!” Carl almost laughed. That was good: at least he was relaxing a little bit. Better to be in a calm demeanor when they finally approached the dilapidated Engineer. Carl sighed in the silence that followed and perched himself on the end of the oblong-shaped desk. Rio suddenly realized that she had only met this man a couple of minutes ago, and already she liked him, which for her was something that did not come easily.
“Shall we go then?” She asked heartily, making sure she put a slight emphasis on ‘we’. Carl looked at her for a moment, trying to think of a reason why she shouldn’t come, before giving up.
“Alright.” He agreed. Rio hauled herself up off the seat and a small creased flickered over her forehead. She reminded herself that if she didn’t want to go running to the doctor each time training went wrong she was going to have to put up with this. Still, as she walked delicately through the turbolift doors it felt as though she had been trampled by a herd of stampeding elephants. To his credit Commander Torek slowed his walk to a thoughtful pace, allowing the marine to keep up. She didn’t let her concern show in her face: she was not one to wear her heart on her sleeve, but she dearly hoped that Scott was alright.
When they reached the depths of engineering, they found it a quiet and somber affair. Hardly anybody looked round as they passed through the workers. Emerging on the opposite side of the deck the halted outside McLeans office. Rio gave Carl a forceful look and nodded sideways towards the door, indicating that he should go first. He shot her a ‘why me?’ frown before rapping twice on the door and entering. Rio had snuck in behind him and closed the door before Scott had even uttered a single word. He did not look very healthy. On one side of his desk there was an empty bottle of scotch that had been overturned onto its side. From previous visits Rio remembered it to have been rather well endowed, which indicated he must have consumed at least half the bottle today. He looked at them with a slanted expression.
“Err, Commander McLean, Scott…we need to talk to you.” Carl began…

As consciousness slowly returned to mc7 he first thing that struck him was the bright light that he could sense, even though his eyes were still firmly closed. Slowly he opened began to open his eyes in order to let them adjust to the light, and not blind him. As his surroundings began to take shape the place he was lying looked familiar, but mc7 couldn't place where he was straight away.
Ahhh, glad to see your back with us, Admiral.
A soothing female voice said, approaching him. Opening his eyes further he seen the voice had come from a young woman in a Starfleet medical uniform. As soon as he seen the uniform he knew where he was. The sickbay of Starbase Bellicose. Once this thought set in awareness seemed to come back in torrents, and within moments mc7 was completely coherent and the memories of his experiences on New London came flooding back. Once the memories had returned the Admiral asked to use the CMO's office to get read up on what had occurred on the Raven during his time on the surface of New London. The nurse put up the amount of resistance she was required to under the general medical code when a recovering patient wants to return to work before the medical staff think wise, but quickly backed down when she could see how determined the former borg officer was to follow through on his request.
Briefing Room on board the USS Raven 2 days later
Two days later the senior officers of the USS Raven were all gathered in the ships briefing room. Having only been released from sickbay hours before, this was the first chance mc7 had to return to the Raven. This meeting was going to be a bitter sweet one, given the items on the agenda.
It's good to see you all again,
mc7 said opening the meeting as he looked around the table.
Firstly I want to say well done to all of you, and a personal thank you to each and every one of you for going as far, and risking as much as you all did in order to come to my aid. I'm also heartened to see that the clone of me was not able to fool you all, and pleased to read that you all knew me enough to know that I would never behave in such a way.
At that point Steven smiled, and said what everyone else was thinking.
We all know you would do the same for us Sir.
That I would. As far as was needed. On that note, I have some news which is bittersweet for me to bring to you. Commander Smith, would you please join me at the head of the table.
A puzzled look crept over Smiths face as he rose from his seat to stand next to the now standing Admiral.
Commander Smith, I am hereby authorised by Starfleet Command to offer you the post of Commanding Officer of the newly recommissioned USS Olympia, with the reinstated rank of Captain.
With that said mc7 handed Steven a small velvet box which he opened to reveal his new fourth pip.
Part 1 - To be continued shortly!

McLean was sitting with his back to his office door with his feet resting on his desk. He had just finished the last of the scotch and simply dropped it out of his left hand, letting fall where it may on his desk. In his right hand was the PADD with the divorce forms that Stephanie had so cowerdly send down through a junior officer.
"Couldn't even do it yourseld could you honey." McLean mumbled under his breath at a digital projection on his wife.
McLean's thought was interupted by the sound of his office door closing. McLean closed his eyes and hoped it wasn't either Captain Smith or Admiral Mc 7 of 9.
“Err, Commander McLean, Scott…we need to talk to you.” McLean reconized the voice instantly, it was Commander Torek.
"I take it that the good Commander filed her report. I figured I had a day before everything hit the fan." McLean said with his back still to Torek and Jackson.

Steve was in total suripise. He stood next to the Admiral and didnt know what to say. About a thousand and one thoughts rushed through his head at once.
'Captain?......USS Olympia?' Was the main thought. 'Another new ship and crew I gotta remember'
He came to his senses and smiled at the Admiral. "Thank you sir. I accept!" He finally said, and took the box....and decided not to say anything about the extra pip that he already had on his quarters from his last command.
All of a sudden, something stuck in his mind. "Reinstated?" He asked.

The look of surprise on Steve's face was worth it for mc7. He was glad to Steve was going to get his chance to have his own center seat again, rather than having to occupy mc7's on duty shifts. He deserved it.
Reinstated?
Steve asked the one word question, which the Admiral answered.
Given that you have have held the rank of Captain previously, and also given you have been acting Captain of the Raven during her previous mission, it is a reinstatement rather than a promotion.
This seemed to answer Steve's question, and he returned to his seat at the table.
Given that Captain Smith will be leaving us to go to the Olympia, that leaves the position of Executive Officer of the Raven open. As most of you will know, and others will get to know, I'm not the type of man that likes loose ends. And on that note I've been thinking about possible candidates for the job, and reviewing their respective service records since Command informed me about Steven's move to the Olympia. And I've come to a decision about who will be replacing Steven. Each and every one of you sitting around this table would make an excellent First Officer, you would each bring something unique and special to the role. The Officer who has been chosen is no better than anyone else around the table, but rather this is the right time for them to enter the command ladder. They will take up the post on a temporary basis for three months, after which time their performance will be evaluated. With that said, I would like you all join me in congratulating our new XO, Commander Torek.

Arya was shocked. ~A girl?! A daughter.~ She thought not saying anything just then. She was glad they knew now though. She felt very uneasy about having a little girl, but didn't say anything about it figuring she could talk to Steve later in private.
"Thank you doctor, and yes I plan to research all three species. I don't want anything happening to our child," she responded. It wasn't long before they were out of sickbay. She noticed Steve had disappeared, and she left remembering they had a date set for a little later.
Arya sat at a table waiting for her husband to show. He seemed to be running late, and she didn't mind. It gave her time to think more on the baby. ~Will this child cause as much trouble to me as I did to my mother? How must Steve be feeling about having a little girl?~ She noticed Steve came in soon enough and she smiled.
(Steve)
Arya sat in her seat wondering what this meeting was about. She noticed the admiral had his usual spot, and thought Steve looked a little lost in his chair. ~Naturally a taste of being captain will do that to you. I should talk to him after this, see if I can help him a little.~ She thought.
Arya heard the announcement, and couldn't believe it. She realized he would be on a new ship, and she would be on the Raven without him. She didn't like the thoughts and feelings she was having, and put them aside remembering this was important to him. She hid the feelings from her face and was smiling.
It wasn't long after Steve had a new assignment that Torek was acting XO. Arya didn't know what to say to this, and didn't say anything. She continued to smile and congradulated both of them. One the briefing was over, she left and returned to her office hoping for some time alone.

Rio and Carl arrived in Engineering .. As they made their way toward Scott's office, the department seemed unusually quiet .. Scott had his back to them as they entered, and he stayed that way .. "Erm .. Commander McLean .. Scott .. We need to have a word with you." said Torek, Scott recognizing Carl's voice. "I take it that the good Commander filed her report. I figured I had a day before everything hit the fan." McLean said with his back still to Torek and Jackson. "We are not sure yet .. What were you thinking." Rio said firmly, but concerned at the obvious fact that he was drinking, Really drinking, not synthahol ! Scott almost 'casually' threw the PADD on the desk, it was plain he wanted Rio to read it's contents .. As she did so, she silently nodded to Torek and motioned him to leave ... Carl looked back at Scott, still facing the wall .. "Scott .. I'm not sure what's going on .. Or what the issue is that's got you in this condition but ...... " he paused as Rio yet again signaled for him to leave and let her try to deal with this, "Rio is a good friend of yours she tells me .. So I'm leaving you both to talk .. Scott .. The last thing I want to have to do is take this to the Admiral ......" he said, sympathetically, and then left Rio to speak to her friend .......... ~~~~~~~~~~ Two days later :In the Briefing room, everyone had been pleased to see the Admiral back. He wasn't still One hundred percent, but he was getting there .. He had just announced that 'Captain' Smith would shortly be taking Command of the USS Olympia .. Everyone was pleased and almost un-surprised, as it was long in coming .. Carl watched Arya as her husband was congratulated, and knew then that she would transfer to be with him .. His concerns were almost forgotten as he heard the Admiral's next announcement ... "I've come to a decision about who will be replacing Steven." he began, looking at everyone in turn, "Each and every one of you sitting around this table would make an excellent First Officer ... You would each bring something unique, and special to the role .. The Officer who has been chosen, is no better than anyone else around the table, but rather this is the right time for them to enter the command ladder .. With that said, I would like you all join me in congratulating our new Executive Officer ... Commander Torek." Carl saw every pair of eyes fix on him .. He was, to say the least, stunned .. But he needed to at least acknowledge the Admiral's statement ... "Thank you Admiral .. I'm not sure quite what to say ..." he began, but as no help was forthcoming, he tried, "I can only say thank you for the confidence in my abilities .. I will of course do my best to fulfill the role .. But I'm sure I will get all the help I need from the Officers and Crew of the Raven." "Good." said Mc ... "So .. Congratulations once again to both Captain Smith and Commander Torek." Everyone round the table was nodding and in various way's, voicing their approval of proceeding's .. Carl got up and walked round the table, and as he and Steven shook hands, Carl smiled at Arya .. "Congratulations .. Captain .. " he said, smiling .......... < tag : All > (come on where is everybody)

McLean waited until he heard his office door shut before he turned around to face Jackson. Jackson always had a rough looks on her face, making it that much harder to try and read her. McLean found himself wondering what she was like in a combat situation. Combat changes everything, McLean thought. Although the Chief Engineer had his fair share of phaser shoot outs he himself had never had to kill another being in close combat where the slightest hesitation caused one their life.
Jackson had that do or die expression on her face. It was the expression that seemed to McLean that she could stand there all day until McLean finally broke down and got off his chest what needed to get off.
Moments later it worked, "I guess Starfleet isn't for everybody." McLean said. Jackson remained stone cold, "I have a decision to make, a tough one. Keep my family, or keep my career that I have worked so hard at. Some men might not have a problem choosing, stronger men might not have to indulge their sorrows in drink...but I guess I'm not that strong of a man. The reality is I can't choose between the two, and before going about my duties used to push things away until I was able to deal with them later. This time...I snapped. The first woman I came across I snapped at, I had my reasons but the underline issue was Stephanie. I think I should take myself off the duty roster for the next couple of days, clear my head."
McLean stood up and walked past Jackson, who turned to watch McLean stop at the now opened door.
"You're a good listener Jackson. Thanks." McLean said before leaving his officer and Main Engineering.
TWO DAYS LATER
McLean sat bored in the Main Conference room. It had been a couple of days since his altercation with the female Commander and as of yet nothing had turned up about his outburst. Either that or it was to happen in front of the entire senior staff.
McLean watched in a neutral capacity as Commander Torek was promoted to First Officer of the USS Raven. Great, McLean thought, the idea of what the new First Officers order of business might entail sent a nervous shiver down McLean's back.

Steve looked towards Arya and she was smiling, but there seemed to be something hidden underneath that smile. Like there was something she wasnt too happy about. And that concerned him.
Just then, Carl approached them. "Congratulations .. Captain .. " he said, smiling.
"Thanks....and congratulations to you too." Steve replied with a smile that was NOT false. "Take good care of the ship and crew." Steve held out his hand in a gesture for Carl to shake it.

AFTER THE MEETING
Steve was in his quarters packing his things away. He seemed to be the only one doing so as Arya wasnt around, at it looked like she hadnt even begun. All of a sudden, a strange thought occured to him. 'She DOES know that she is coming with me....doesn't she?' He laughed to himself and dismissed the thought., but decided he had better check in on her anyway. Last time he heard from her, she was in her office, so Steve finished what he was doing and left his quarters to head for her.
Only a few moments later, Steve arrived at Arya's office, and being curteous he pressed the chime and waited for her to answer.

Jared had been waiting a while for the Raven to return, which proved unfortunate since he took the time to pay a visit elsewhere, missing its first day of return by some time. 'Always happens...' he mused as the Shrike class ship hurtled at top speed through the depths towards Bellicose. 'Ten minutes to launch' the captain's voice came over the comm to Jared as he sat in the shuttle. It had been painted to look Federationish and was passably non-suspicious. The only problem would be if someone in the landing control took a close look, which they tended not to do on Federation bases. At the latest possible point, the small ship popped out of warp, dropped the shuttle and left again, taking about ten seconds in all. The Bellicose computer took over, guiding the shuttle into the relevant docking bay. Jared left the shuttle, leaving a bag on board. The pilot nodded and as soon as Jared was clear of the bay the shuttle made its exit.
Jared himself sped through Bellicose to the Raven's docking bay. The ship was definately in the latter stages of leaving given the number of station technicians heading away from it. Jared clove a way through the crowd and eventually onto the ship. He regained his composure as he headed for his quarters, dumped his stuff in the door and left for the bridge.
As he reached it, the stations were not quite filled, suggesting the senior crew were in the little briefing room at the back. Jared went in and waited for an acknowledgement of his arrival. Curently there was some state of excitement about something.
