"Ah, Commander Parsons, good to have you aboard. I trust the delay didn't prove too stressful, I know how the bureaucrats can be when it comes to approving appointments." Gheskori walked down to the command arena, the space between the Captain and first officer's chair fairly sizeable on this class of ship. The other thing he noticed about the bridge was how bright, new, how futuristic it looked. In these times, such an assessment was uncommon indeed...
He shook Parsons' hand, just this once forgoing the Denobulan custom of not making physical contact with non-intimates. "In a way you're just in time Commander. I've ordered that moorings be cast at 1900 this evening. We're heading out on our first assignment and shakedown cruise." He headed for his seat, wanting to test it out before departure. "Please put out the word for a senior staff meeting at 0600 tomorrow," he told Parsons, "We'll speed on over night, then in the morning I'll inform the crew of our mission."
<Tag Parsons>
Gheskori shifted in the seat, at once disliking the odd position the command chair forced his back to adopt. "Hmph, if this is the price of progress..." he grunted lightheartedly.
The bridge crew was still rather spare as shore leave hadn't yet finished. But with his first and second officer present Ghes felt assured it was in good hands. He nodded to Parsons, sharing a smile about things unspoken. There had been an odd reversal of roles. That day when Ghes had walked on to the Scavenger as an Ensign with Commander Parsons serving as the first officer did seem rather long ago now...
"Chief Medical Officer, reporting in sir. Savin has headed to sickbay to initiate inspection. Sir, my daughter Numike seems missing, have you perhaps seen her? I believe she may be hiding somewhere, to avoid being left behind."
Gheskori turned around and rose from his seat in surprise. "Doctor Saryn," he nodded, "I wasn't expecting you on board so soon; thank you for your punctuality. As for your question..." he paused, then smiled as a possible solution revealed itself to him. With the intent of utilising the sensors, he walked over to behind Matthew's console then turned around to Saryn, beckoning him over. "Do you know what sort of biosign we might look for, Doctor? I understand that this isn't your vulcan child?"
<Tag Saryn>
Half an hour later, After a few minutes of sitting doing nothing, Gheskori opened a channel to every commbadge of every member of the Enzio's crew - whether on the station or the ship. "All hands this is the Captain of the Enzio. All please board the ship and report for duty to your respective department heads. Senior staff report to me personally. Shore leave is over."

Perhaps it was by far the thing he hated the most about being a department head on board a starship. Especially being in charge of engineering being the Helmsman was so much easier less paperwork then what he had to deal with as the chief engineer. The pile of PADD's had grown in size in under two days, and he was benched in his office reviewing them.
"All hands this is the Captain of the Enzio. All please board the ship and report for duty to your respective department heads. Senior staff report to me personally. Shore leave is over."
The Commander heard the intercom and looked up towards the bulkhead against his door, Three, two, one..., at one he heard the chime on his door and knew exactly who it was. "Enter please." He said with a sigh and seen Lieutenant Machi standing there with the crew roster, and placed it on the desk.
"Here you go sir, everybody has reported in already the final people reported just before the announcement over the communication system."
James smiled weakly, "Thank you Lieutenant." He replied and watched as Machi left looking at the PADD quickly. After the Bolian Assistant Chief left his office he buried his face into his hands and rubbed his forehead. Oh, joy! James found himself thinking as he pressed the communications switch on his desk, "Commander Cohen to Captain Gheskori, engineering is present and accounted for, all systems are green. The warp core is online as are the remainder of the systems we are ready whenever you are."
<Tag Ghes>
He sighed, and finally stood up having made perhaps a small dent in the amount of paperwork he had on his desk. Quietly he stepped out into main engineering for reasons of waiting for the ship to finally get underway. It felt nice to be on a ship again, and leaving the Starbase that he had just spent the last several weeks at between ships two times in a row...

OOC: To Saryn, I'm moving us forward to launch, but my tag is still open from my previous post. This likewise applies to Tiana and Vin yet to report to the Captain.
"Commander Cohen to Captain Gheskori, engineering is present and accounted for, all systems are green. The warp core is online as are the remainder of the systems we are ready whenever you are."
Gheskori sat in the command chair, rubbing fingers together in anticipation of the departure. He had gripped in his hand an object of sentimental value, holding on to a memory and bringing it to the fore in this, this significant moment.
"Thank you, Commander Cohen," he said over the commline to his engineer, "I'm sure it will be pleasing to get the warp drive active. Keep it closely monitored over night and present me the results at the staff meeting tomorrow morning."
<Tag Cohen>
"Base Ops have cleared us to get underway at any time Captain," Commander Matthew reported from Ops, after having just exchanged reports with the XO.
"Thank you," the Denobulan said to Matthew. He directed his sight to the mainscreen, eyeing the docking arena ahead of them, and as always experiencing an awe, tangible as it accelerated perpetually through his neurons. The dock was resplendent in a blue glow, veritably vivid with the trademark lights and colours of Starfleet. The great doors were already retracting to reveal their dark rectangle of nothingness as the dockmaster started procedures to allow for Enzio's departure.
"Dockmaster, we're sending the request to unlock umbilicals." Ghes glanced at his armpanel, tapping at the buttons, "Lieutenant Fischer, take us out," he said. The helmsman - whom he'd met in a restaurant on the station earlier in the day - nodded and looked down to concentrate on his console. Ghes tilted his head at the Lieutenant; he supposed he could understand the man not wanting to get the procedure wrong.
The USS Enzio slipped its bonds and shot as sure as an arrow for the widening doors.
It emerged from the station's bulbuous interior with a sheen of reflected starlight passing across its edges. The multi-hull configuration of the Prometheus class rendered the ship no less complete, no less streamlined, no less meant-to-be. Moving breathlessly at ever increasing speed, the new vessel struck off in the direction of the nearby star - it would pass the sphere of gas's corona and traverse through the system before passing finally into deep interstellar space.
Gheskori stood up on the bridge, feeling immensely satisfied. He checked the small graphically-displayed chronometer at the top right of the viewscreen: it was 1940 hours. It was now well past the time planned for setting off, so he had better make a start. "Helmsman set course for Breen space; specifically the Tycho Necris system, our first waypoint."
The Helmsman paused, there was a flicker of bemusement around the bridge. A few murmurs and glances but Ghes seemed to utterly disregard them, or even be aware of them.
"So Commander," he said, keeping his voice down, wanting to confer with the man CO to XO, "I'll be in my ready room and I'd ask you to join me. I'd like to develop our working relationship early, and besides there are things I need to discuss with my second-in-command prior to briefing the crew on the nature of our assigment. After that, I might get an early night, it's been a long day."
He entered his ready room with the Executive Officer following.
<Tag Parsons>
"So..." Ghes took his seat in the ready room. Happily he looked over his desk, rearranging here and moving here; he was yet to find an arrangement he was happy with. The Commander stood before him, Ghes looked up, staring into Adam's face and maintaining a curiously upright posture in his chair.
"Have you alerted the senior staff of the meeting tomorrow at 0600?" he asked, and leafed through some PADDs.

Moving into a new lab was always a lot of work. Everyone had their pet experiments and they all had to be authorised and fitted in. Then she had the never ending supply of reading material that had built up in her office and quarters. She had stored most of it when she had moved off the Vic and now she was taking the opportunity to have a sort out.
Tiana had sorted her quarters in record time but her quarters weren't what made a ship home. She was currently in her office and alternating between stacking things on shelves and reviewing her staff list. There were only two familiar names on the list. Pretty much all her staff had transferred when the Vic was decommissioned; there were three CScOs amongst them now and two had move off to research vessels. Tiana was feeling a touch lonely and nervous at the prospect of meeting so many new people. The two who had followed her from the Vic were Martha Hernandez and Tomal.
The former was the first member of science staff that Tiana had met on the Vic and newly promoted to Chief Petty Officer, she was head of Stellar Cartography. Tomal was now a senior Lieutenant and the junior of her two assistants. She had arranged a science staff meeting for a few hours time and new that most of them were on board all ready.
Her comm badge chirped.
=/\=All hands this is the Captain of the Enzio. All please board the ship and report for duty to your respective department heads. Senior staff report to me personally. Shore leave is over.=/\= Tiana smiled in response and exactly 18 seconds later started fielding calls and visits from the last few members of her staff.
8 minutes later having had the last conformation and checked on the status of the last arriving pieces of equipment Tiana tapped her comm badge.
=/\=Captain, it Commander Galwyn here. Science staff and equipment all accounted for and on board. All labs online. We're ready to go.=/\=
Tag: Ghes if you want to add anything.
Tiana entered the main lab. It was substantially fuller and busier than when she had last seen it. Now Tiana felt like the Enzio was home.

Previously Gheskori turned around and rose from his seat in surprise.
"She is not of Vulcan but will be 'd'vel'nahr', Vulcan by choice," Saryn responded, then chose to elaborate. "She is Mirandan by birth, a vampiric species, though she has no need for another's blood. She takes medication to control the urge, and will continue to do so until she reaches the age of eighteen standard years old, upon which time, she will no longer require them. She will study Vulcan culture and learn emotional suppression where required."
<Ghes, mod if you like>
Present
Saryn sat in his office in sickbay, aboard the Enzio, studying various reports. He had been doing so for the past hour, while also continuing his studies on 24th century species, particularly of those that served on this ship.
"Father, has Numike been found?" A clearly concerned younger copy of himself entered the office, carrying a single PADD. He too, was studying, alongside his refresher courses for Starfleet academy, as his knowledge was somewhat out of date.
Saryn looked up. "Negative," he responded, "she has not but I believe security is looking for her."
"I will join the search," the younger man stated firmly, placed the PADD on his father's desk and walked out. It didn't take him long to head up to the bridge and find the chief of security. "Sir, I wish to join the search for my sister. She has been missing for several hours now."

Vin had finished having a meal with Tiana, he was not sure where he stood wth her, but hoped things would be ok. She was very nice but quiet, he hoped she was doing ok with now being a joined trill like himself. He left her and headed to the ship, security was already getting thins straight when he entered the main security area.
"Jim, everything going well?" He asked.
"Slowly but surely Vin, we are just getting everything placed in proper areas, finding the secret places for our weapons is a engineering nightmare. I had to get an engineer with a schematic to take me around to where all the secret slots are." He said with a grin.
"Fun, have you checked the access areas to where each seperation module is and are they secured?" Vin asked.
"Yes sir, they have been thoroughly checked and the doors are locked, once the Captain takes command those locks go to him as per regulations." Jim stated.
"Excellant, I better get up to the bridge." Vin said leaving.
"Oh, reminds me vin, we are looking for the Doctors young child, her name is Numike, as soon as we find her I will contact you." He said.
"Ok, thanks."
Vin left and headed down the corridor and got on the turbolift taking it straight to the bridge, he relieved the ensign at the main tactical station with a nod. They got under way soon afterwards.
"Captain all weapon and defensive systems read normal and at 100% ready when we need them, all seperation systems are on standby." Vin said.
<Ghes>
Vin listened to the Captain after he gave him the status report then he saw the doctor's son approach getting his attention. He turned as the he spoke.
"Sir, I wish to join the search for my sister. She has been missing for several hours now."
"My men are currently looking for her, if you wish go down to security and ask for Lieutenant James Jackson, tell him I said it was ok for you to help in the search, I will also use the ships scanners to search for her as well." Vin said with a smile.

Parsons returned the Captain's handshake, slightly surprised at the guesture.
"Aye Captain," the XO responded finding his seat. He used the small console at his seat to notify all senior staff of the meeting in the morning. Adam and Ghes shared a smile acknowledging good memories aboard a former ship and a sense of comfort in working with a former collegue again.
Parsons noticed a report submitted by Commander Matthew, the ship's Chief of Operations and Second Officer. Commander Matthew was an experienced officer that Adam knew of before being assigned to the Enzio.
"Very good, Commander, request clearance for departure," Parsons responded.
Adam looked over at Ghes and realized the significance for the new Captain. It was his first mission as Captain of his own starship. Parsons smiled at the thought. Ghes had avanced quickly through the ranks since Adam had been his senior. Parsons had seen similar rapid advancement earlier in his career, but had settled into the first officer role, only acting as captain during brief periods of absence by former COs.
Parsons was a bit surprised by the heading. It appeared he was not the only bridge officer to be so.
"Aye, Sir." The two men then entered the Captain's ready room.
"Have you alerted the senior staff of the meeting tomorrow at 0600?" the Captain asked, and leafed through some PADDs.
"Yes, Captain."

Representative Elliane Ryat leaned back in her shuttle seat as she and her pilot whipped through space at warp. It had been a while since she had left Trill and now she was being sent to examine and report back on a particularly difficult situation that in her opinion had been allowed to drag on far too long.
She keyed the subspace radio. "Captain Gheskori this is Representative Ryat of Trill. I have been sent to join you to evaluate the situation with Tiana Cet. My authorisations from my government and Starfleet are attached to this message. I need to speak to you directly on arrival. I will meet you at... " She rattled off the time and co ordinates and ended the message. She double check that the authorisations were attached and transmitted the message to the USS Enzio.
Elliane was not sure why they Symbiosis Commission had selected her for this mission, it wasn't as if they had always seen eye to eye after all. She had been a fairly outspoken reformer and legal expert even before she had become Ryat's fifth host 4 years back, she hadn't become any more mellow since.
The shuttle reached the rendezvous point about half an hour early which meant that Elliane could relax for a bit and check her luggage and then be ready on the transporter in time for her to be brought aboard the Enzio.
"Permission to come aboard." She asked Elliane wasn't in starfleet but Ryat had been and those things did not slip with age.

Tiana had put in a fairly long day getting her lab straight. When she made it back to her quarters she was going to head straight for the shower and then a nice quiet evening curled up on the sofa with some research journals and some hot chocolate. However, she noted the message light was flickering on her desk. She had be sent a written communication. It hadn't been tagged urgent and had not been tagged for response. However, when she saw the sender was the Symbiosis Commission Tiana's stomach knotted.
She hadn't really had any dealings with the Commission since she had left Trill but right up to then they had been trying to convince her to put her name back on the list of people to be joined. She never had; and yet here she was joined. She had known when she had agreed to host Cet to save the symbiont that the Symbiosis Commission would be interested in her and would have to evaluate the joining. She had thought initially that she would be happy to get this joining over with; now though she felt that she and Cet had come to an understanding, she would be happy to stay joined.
She read the message four times and gradually it's contents sunk in. She had hoped they would send Thalia Fen her field docent, but no they were sending Elliane Ryat. Cet and Ryat had never really moved in the same circles but had met a time or two.
Elliane Ryat was known to be very blunt and strong willed, like most of the previous Ryats. Some symbionts, Cet included, despite a desire to experience new things tended to keep a common thread in their hosts. Ryat's had a way with words. Politician, Ambassador, Starfleet Commodore, Professional Mediator, Lawyer... it was not going to be an easy conversation.
Tiana tapped her comm badge. =/\= Captain Gheskori this is Commander Galwyn. I've just received a message from home. Apparently the Symbiosis Commission is sending someone to evaluate me. They say it won't interfere with either my duties or our mission but I not entirely convinced. =/\=

Gheskori nodded at Parsons, pleased his first officially appointed XO was fulfilling the orders he'd been given effectively. The Denobulan felt a growing quality of trust in his first officer already, and was satisfied the man would prove a very reliable addition to the command team.
"Good," he said, "I hope the officers won't mind attending a staff meeting so early," he tapped the PADD in his hand on the edge of the desk. "I imagine there'll be some issues, or at least questions about the course we're taking. I want them on top form."
He gestured for Parsons to take a seat. "Speaking of which, I have some information I'd like to divulge regarding our mission. Of course, you'll want to know why we're going to Breen space. In short - without giving too much detail - reports say they're attempting to subjugate a number of worlds within the Tychos volume of this sector. One of those worlds is within Federation jurisdiction but is technically unaligned."
Ghes kicked back and put his hands behind his head, before swinging and looking out the body-length viewing portal. "We don't know much about them except they have a ruling government placing tight restrictions on social liberties. No matter what their leanings, though, they are in Federation space and we need to make sure their rights aren't violated by the Breen." He looked at Parsons; it was clear to the XO he was being asked for his opinion.
<Tag Parsons>
"Ok, Commander, for the mean time I'll hand the bridge over to you; you go off duty at midnight I understand, make sure you get some sleep before the meeting," he grinned. "Don't let me stop you doing anything else," he said as Parsons was on his way out the door.
He'd handed the first officer a PADD, detailing the known information on the inhabitants of the world of interest, as well as of the nebula they'd invariably have to encounter in just over a day's time, on the far outskirts of the Tycho Havulkis system's Oort Cloud equivalent.
<Tag Parsons>
Gheskori rolled out on to the bridge shortly afterwards and immediately headed for the turbolift. He had the device take him down to the level of his quarters. He strolled down the corridor and had his shoulder brushed by a group of security officers - as they hurriedly traversed the passageway. "Mind out," he called; he watched the bashful and apologetic officers disappear and then wondered what they were doing.
"Doctor Saryn", he called on his commbadge, "Is your daughter Numike meant to be aboard now we've left the station? I don't believe Ensign Wolf and his men have found her..."
<Tag Saryn>
Gheskori clicked through the PADDs pages, feeling unavoidably inclined to skip sections ahead in his latest novel. The Denobulan would on average read ten standard-lengthed novels a week - the physiology of his mind allowing quick interpretation and excellent memory retention - but his fast reading of this one was more due to its dull nature. Ghes liked exciting intellectual reads of curious pace and nature; this appeared to be his taste's antithesis.
Thankfully, he was interrupted from his boredom with a call being routed from the bridge. "Put it through," he said.
Quickly, the face of a Trill appeared to him. "Captain Gheskori this is Representative Ryat of Trill. I have been sent to join you to evaluate the situation with Tiana Cet. My authorisations from my government and Starfleet are attached to this message. I need to speak to you directly on arrival."

OOC: Have posted twice; of course scan up for my other one, I had a lot to reply to!
Gheskori raised an eyebrow. This was unexpected indeed: a representative from Trill, and a name. The Trill's name struck chords of memory with Ghes, he could not tell which and thus whose it was, but there was certainly history attached to it. "Hello, representative. Of course, we'd pleased to accept a delegation from Trill. You'll have to change your meeting place however, we are at high warp en route to the Tycho volume and can hardly delay."
Not long later Gheskori lay on his bed, relaxing and turning his mind to other things while also thinking over all that was currently happening on-mission. Ryat had been fairly understanding on the request for rondezvous change... thereby giving Ghes an insight into how lenient she would be regarding her own objectives. He only hoped her presence wouldn't hamper his own assignment.
=/\= Captain Gheskori this is Commander Galwyn,=/\= the Trill's voice cut through his thoughts, =/\=I've just received a message from home. Apparently the Symbiosis Commission is sending someone to evaluate me. They say it won't interfere with either my duties or our mission but I not entirely convinced. =/\=
"Ah.." he replied, interested at the contrast in level of cynicism between he and Tiana regarding this matter. "Yes, I've been contacted also. She'll be here in under an hour. Do you have any specific idea what she might want to question you about?"
<Tag Tiana>
Gheskori sat on the bridge, recalled to the ship's executive nerve centre with the news of the arrival of the Trill representative. Ghes was fairly sure that in addition to evaluating Tiana, the rep would be curious to see how Vin Wolf - a joined Trill himself - would be getting on.
"Looking forward to seeing our Trill representative, Ensign?" he turned and asked. Vin was on duty despite it being the night shift. "I should think you, Tiana and representative Ryat would have some things to talk about."
<Tag Vin>
Shortly after, the small rep vessel entered short range sensor limit, and instantly it started transmitting a broadcast signal. Ghes was pleased; he'd timed his arrival on the bridge to coincide with this meeting and was glad Ryat was also being punctual.
"Permission to come aboard," Elliane Ryat requested over the comm.
"Permission granted," he replied, "I'm Captain Gheskori. There will be a contingent greeting you on arrival in the transporter room who will then lead you to the bridge." Ghes shut the channel and returned to fervent study of an image as pertaining to the mission - the bright streaking colours of the nebula - which they'd soon be in - striked miasmic patterns in his head, as if burning the picture's details into his retina...
Minutes later the Trill arrived on the bridge. "Representative," Ghes nodded, standing, "Sorry you caught us on a mission, and that I wasn't on hand to greet you in the transporter room on your arrival. What are your requirements? Galwyn Cet is below." He nodded to Commander Matthew, asking the man to show Elliane Ryat the way to the science lab should she want it.

Parsons was indeed curious. The Breen were such a secretive race and Adam had had little contact with them during his career in Starfleet.
"Interesting," the XO said, "I can't say a Breen attempt at subjugation surprises me after our last war, but it is unfortunate. Any intelligence on this unaligned world?"
"Well, Sir, I don't like the idea of propping up oppressive regimes, but if the alternative is Breen expansion ... it sounds like we have a better chance of developing a peaceful productive relationship with their existing government."
"Aye, Captain," Parsons said returning Ghes' smile and exiting the ready room, PADD in hand.
Parsons sat down in the command chair and studied the information on the PADD carefully, glancing up to his console occasionally to check the ship's status.

"Captain, this is Savin. My father is currently tending to a patient who was just brought in with injuries. I am not familiar with the concept 'holodeck' but it believe it involves such a device.." The young Vulcan paused as he glanced over his shoulder to watch Saryn deal with the injured crewmember. "My sister is supposed to be on the ship. I am aware that I was going to join the search parties, however my attendance was required in sickbay."
Just then, a pale faced little girl came charging in, clearly in a panic. "Belay that captain, you may call off the searches, she has just come in." He paused again, while drawing the stricken girl to him, holding his breath for a moment as she clamped on tightly to him. "May we meet shortly captain, I will explain further then, I will need to comfort my sister at present."
Savin abruptly cut the connection, quite aware of the fact that one just didn't cut off your commanding officer just like that. He shifted his attention to the child clinging to him. "You have caused father a good deal of worry," he told her plainly as he knelt down to face her, brushing two fingers against her temple to assess her mental state. She seemed very upset and very frightened, which was worrysome as nothing really could happen to a child on a starship.
Numike glanced up at her tall Vulcan brother, furiously wiping her eyes in an attempt to stem the flow of tears. "I don't know what happened," she sniffed, heaving in lungsfull of breath as she tried desperately to calm herself. "I got lost and then I fell and I couldn't get out but I tried and I tried and finally I did. I don't know where exactly...but I got out. I didn't mean to cause alarm."
"Father..Numike is safe," the younger Vulcan reported as soon as the older one approached. "She got lost."
Saryn studied his daughter for a long moment, copied his son's gesture across her temple, then gave a single nod. "She is safe, and unharmed," he stated softly, then surprised the entire sickbay staff by drawing the girl into his arms. "I was very concerned Numike, do not wanter off on your own again. Savin, I overheard that you would report to the captain. Take Numike, and do so. When you have done so, clean her up and see to it that she is fed."
"Yes sir," Savin replied, then held out his hand for the girl to take, leading her out of sickbay and towards the bridge. "You remember Captain Gheskori, do you not? We will report your disappearance and your return. He will not harm you, do you understand?"
Numike bared her fangs at him, smiling sadly. "If he hurts me I'll bite him," she stated sharply, "and if he gets angry with you, I'll bite him too."
"You will do no such thing Numike, we are guests on his vessel while father serves as his doctor. You will not bite the captain, it is not done. The only time you may ever bite him is if he asks you to do so, but under no circumstance will you offer the experience. And you will not bite me either, not this time. You are eight standard years old, you do not bite me when you are frightened anymore. You are becoming a young woman, behave yourself as such, as mother has trained you to do."
"Yes Savin," the girl replied contritely as they stepped onto the bridge. She located the captain immediately and stepped up to him. "Captain sir, I'm sorry for having your security teams have to search for me. I didn't mean to get lost and fall down that shaft. I got out on my own sir, I'm not hurt."

=/\=Ah..=/\= the Captain replied =/\= Yes, I've been contacted also. She'll be here in under an hour. Do you have any specific idea what she might want to question you about?=/\=
Tiana bit back her first comment. =/\= She's going to assess the stability of my joining to Cet and my suitability to remain joined.=/\= She swallowed silently knowing full well what the consequences to her would be if she failed this assessment; but she wasn't going to say anything.
The Captain made a closing remark that sounded vaguely sympathetic but it wasn't as if he could possibly understand the turmoil she was going through.
Tiana busied herself in the lab, aware that Representative Ryat would want to speak to the Captain first. If she kept herself busy enough she might possibly be able to forget for a second or two that her existence was about to be judged.
***************************************
"Permission to come aboard," Elliane Ryat requested.
"Permission granted," he replied, "I'm Captain Gheskori. There will be a contingent greeting you on arrival in the transporter room who will then lead you to the bridge." Elliane's eyebrows rose but she nodded and gestured for her pilot to start the transport.
A young ensign guided her to the bridge and walked her to Captain Gheskori. "Representative," Ghes nodded, standing, "Sorry you caught us on a mission, and that I wasn't on hand to greet you in the transporter room on your arrival. What are your requirements? Galwyn Cet is below."
"I shall need to discuss Commander Cet's stability with you and with your medical staff. I shall also need to spend considerable time observing Commander Cet so I can evaluate the stability and success of the joining."
She did not like discussing such sensitive matters in the middle of the bridge but it appeared that the Captain wasn't able to go anywhere more private at this moment. "If I could arrange an appropriate time and location to discuss things with you, that would be sufficient for the moment." She gestured to the bag over her shoulder. "I also require the use of some quarters for the duration of my stay."
Tag: Ghes.
"Thank you Captain, I know starfleet works its Captains hard. Some things haven't changed. I shall, therefore stop taking up your valuable time and go and see Commander Cet." She looked over at Commander Matthews. "I am ready to go, Commander."

Ghes nodded at Elliane, mind working away on how he might meet all of her requirements in between the ship's current assignment. Suffice to say he considered the latter of extreme importance, but - he reminded himself - Tiana was one of his crew; the emotional trouble this would be causing for her was, morally, his first concern. "If I could arrange an appropriate time and location to discuss things with you, that would be sufficient for the moment." Elliane Ryat prompted. "Yes, of course, Representative," Gheskori spoke, "If you plan on seeing Cet first, I'll have a message passed to you for a meeting time with myself. I imagine immediately after my senior staff conference in six hours time would be appropriate." She gestured to the bag over her shoulder. "I also require the use of some quarters for the duration of my stay."He nodded, "Commander Matthew will direct you to the quarters we've assigned you, as well as show you to the science labs. Hopefully our assignment won't interfere too heavily in your observations, however, I must remind you that the Enzio's own objectives come first." He nodded again to Elliane, sure the look shared was one of mutual appreciation of each other's duty. <Tag Tiana - Elliane ... continue on, we'll revisit the issue after said meeting - at end of post>Ghes swung and leant on the tactical strut, exchanging a glance with Vin and Adam; he wasn't sure of the reason for the action... perhaps he was just reassuring them: they came first. Later, just as Ghes was planning on retiring for the night to get a small amount of sleep, and just as his first officer was going off duty, the doors swept open and a considerably shorter than expected individual entered, followed closely by a vulcan. The girl walked up to him, "Captain sir, I'm sorry for having your security teams have to search for me. I didn't mean to get lost and fall down that shaft. I got out on my own sir, I'm not hurt."Gheskori smiled down with tired eyes. "It's not your fault, I'm sorry we couldn't find you sooner." The Denobulan was alarmed such a thing could happen to a child on a starship; falling down a shaft? "Savin," he said, "How is your father, did either of you join the search?" Ghes's outlook was considerably more serious; not because Savin didn't involve himself in the search, of course, he had no qualms over that, but because he'd just learnt his ship wasn't as safe as previously thought. Perhaps his question could've been interpreted as being motivated by anger; certainly he was sure the pale-faced child was less than happy with him over it. <Tag Savin - Numike - no biting please!! > "Ensign Wolf, have all shafts and associated storage areas checked out. Report to me should you find any problems. Also coordinate with Ops. I believe Commander Matthew's gone to bed but be in contact with his department. We can't have the Enzio inadvertantly trapping its inhabitants..." <Tag Ensign Wolf>Six hours later...Gheskori situated himself before the mirror in his quarters having slept for just under three hours. Denobulans needed very little sleep; he'd fulfilled his quota for the next week probably. Time to alert the others. =/\=Good morning, everybody,=/\= he called, tapping his commbadge and watching himself in the mirror, =/\=There is a senior staff meeting in ten minutes time. Please all report to the briefing room; it's time to find out why we're in Breen space.=/\= <Tag All Senior Staff - Post your arrival at the meeting>The bridge was alight with the luminous console displays, indicating morning dawned over the USS Enzio. Gheskori liked there to be a perceptible, if only slight, shift in the brightness of the console graphics and roof lights as the ship went from night to day time. He felt it served a functional as well as aesthetic requirement. "Coming up on Tycho Necris, sir," helmsman Davies reported. Ghes stood and adjusted his collar, stepping in the direction of the briefing room. "Good, Lieutenant." Tycho Necris was the ship's final waypoint on their way to the system - and its accompanying expansive nebula - in question. "Commander Matthew, have your stand-in scan the system and then we'll jump for the next system. You're coming with me to the briefing." The two stepped next door into the conference room. <Tag All>

Tiana was in the middle of organising the set up of a low-g xenobotany experiment when she heard a distinct throat clearing behind her. She turned to see a smartly dressed Trill woman standing just inside the door.
She quickly checked her hands for grease and then offered one to the woman.
Elliane had been escorted to her quarters and then to the science labs. She wasn't sure what she was she was expecting to find. Six people literally up to their elbows in a peace of equipment was not it. She suspected she probably should have been expecting something like this. The Enzio was certainly an interesting ship. Commander Cet offered a slightly smudged hand. Elliane shook it. Part of her wanted to be back out in space but most of her knew that this job was important.
"Representative Ryat. I'm Tiana" She deliberately skipped over what she was using as a surname at the moment. It was the done thing to take your symbiont's name. Tiana hadn't, she would answer to Cet but she hadn't formalised any sort of name change. It had been temporary after all. Elliane was intrigued by how the other woman introduced herself words were important after all. She knew Tiana was entitled to Commander or Doctor as titles. Then again there was the slightly sticky issue of surname.
"I'm glad you made it aboard all right. Would you like to join me in my office?" Tiana continued
"Thank-you. You can call me Elliane." This would be easier if they managed to be somewhat friendly. She was going to have to ask some personal questions and examine the younger woman's life in all sorts of painless detail.
The entered the office, Tiana guested to one of her guest chairs while settling herself in the other. She forced a bright tone. "Shall we begin then?"
It was painfully obvious that Tiana did not particularly want to do this, who would, but Elliane had no choice. "Can you tell me in your own words why you took you name off the Symbiosis Commission's List.
Tiana began to tell her story. This one she had told so many times that it didn't hurt so much any more...
******************************************************
Having spilled out her life story and what felt like half of Cet's and downed three mugs of coffee during the tale Tiana felt like just letting herself crash. However that didn't appear to be an option.
=/\=There is a senior staff meeting in ten minutes time. Please all report to the briefing room; it's time to find out why we're in Breen space.=/\=
Tiana tapped her comm badge to acknowledge the order and sighed silently. She was no closer to working out what Ryat thought of her.
Elliane looked at Tiana, the other woman was certainly tired but she was making the best of a bad situation. She clearly had agreed to the joining only to save the symbiont and no member of the Symbiosis Commission would ever have approved the joining in other circumstances. She clearly wasn't going mad and had adjusted to the unusual circumstances. Was it worth risking her life to place Cet with a more suitable host?
Tiana made it to the briefing room with about 90 seconds to spare Elliane was now quietly following her. The other woman settled in a corner of the briefing room while Tiana took a seat. Commander Matthew and Captain Gheskori was the only other officers present. The Commander was enjoying a cup of coffee an d the Captain seemed to be lost in his notes. Tiana stay silent and consulted a PADD. She had had a full day planned before Elliane and a briefing had intruded now she wasn't at all sure when she was going to get back to her quarters, but, never mind that she had to focus on the briefing.

Parsons arrived in the briefing room ahead of most of the other officers. He was intrigued at the thought of learning the reason for the ship's entry into Breen space. Adam had been working with the ship's tactical department since they departed starbase in an effort to keep their skills sharp. This mission could turn out to be dangerous and, if there were an engagement, the Enzio would likely be surprised and outnumbered.
Parsons had had a very satisfactory meeting with the ship's Operations Chief and de facto second officer, Commander Matthew. The operations officer had a reputation as an experienced and competent officer in the fleet, and the First Officer's experience with Matthew was no different. The two officers exchanged ideas about how to more efficiently run the new ship and how to cope with any personnel shortages.

Elliane Ryat
Elliane was doing her best to be unobtrusive as she watched the rest of the Enzio's crew, she knew that many of them had served with Tiana prior to her joining. It would be important to talk to them and find out what they made of the changes in their college. Elliane knew that the Captain had been against the joining but having reviewed the records she strongly suspected that that opposition had more to do with protecting his crewmember. The Symbiosis Commission had all ready had words with the Admiral concerned. She had been more interested in recovering her officer than protecting anyone. Ironically if the joining had gone wrong then that was what she might have got. Tiana's own personality being submerged by that of one of the previous hosts. Still this wasn't as tricky as the Ezri Tigan/Dax situation had been. Tiana had been through all the preliminaries for joining and been judged suitable so there should be less worries there...
Then again Tiana had admitted that she had taken of traits of previous hosts. Then again she was seemingly aware of this and hadn't really lost herself (excepting the blackouts - according to her medical records those had been caused by neurological over load, it wasn't easy just taking on 10 lifetimes worth of memory including 3 violent and untimely deaths. She knew Cet's history well enough. It had made her grateful that Ryat had had a quieter life with no previous host dying an unnatural death. She had arrived here thinking she was going to have a lot to do. She had found even more

OOC: As this post is quite long, I've put the actual mission brief in white. I think that's got everybody with a definite objective... ask if you find yourself short of things to do..
The last officer arrived at the briefing, prompting Ghes to stand from his seat and look over them all from the end of the table. A new senior staff, ready to plunge into this first assignment: some familiar faces and others that were new. He had them all at his disposal with a new first officer and new ship at his side.
He straightened his collar and turned partway to the wall's screen, which displayed a convenient map of the region in a 2D plane defined by the star system they'd just passed through, their destination Tycho Havulkis and the star Hebridon Kal, chosen for its helpfulness in displaying the surrounding region of space in 2D.
"Ladies and gentlemen," he said, "Firstly, as you know we've entered a contested region; while our charts show us still in the Federation, the Breen claim it as their space. As such I've ordered the ship go to passive yellow alert and for the shifts to be reorganised temporarily to a combat regimen. Don't be alarmed," he said quickly, seeing the glances and nervous expressions from some of the more junior officers, "We aren't planning on getting into a fight, we just need to prepare."
He looked at a PADD and continued, "The system we're heading towards is one among eleven in this volume in the process of being subjugated by the Breen. Now while Starfleet would like to involve itself in liberating all the systems, this is our one legitimate target as the rest lie across the border. Unfortunately there's no easy route to the system.
Lines lit up across the screen showing feasible vectors into the system; Ghes pointed to the red ones. "It's strongly suspected that the Breen have listening posts at locations such that the volume is unapproachable, except possibly through this nebula," he indicated the fuzzy patch pointed to by a green arrow, "A small one on the edge of the system's farthest boundary.
"The world in question is run by a rather authoritarian government as far as we can tell. They're just pre-warp, and have had their contact with warp-capable species; everything indicates they've always reacted violently to outside interference. In fact, they've attempted to attack and steal technology, so it's somewhat surprising that yesterday they agreed to let a team of Starfleet officers down to their world. As well as these social question marks, monitoring has revealed an extensive program of genetic engineering, seeming to course through every layer of society. As far as we know they've applied direct mental and physical modifications to themselves to increase productivity in manufacture, science, engineering, military, medicine, the arts and so on. They've had civil wars revolving around this too, as you might expect. Think of the Eugenics Wars."
Ghes paused, imagining for a brief moment what those on Denobula would think of this. The Denobulans were famed for their genetic experimentation, and had successfully implemented it without war or any other kind of unpleasantness.
Before he could continue the briefing, the temporary helmsman spoke up, "Are the Breen in the system at the moment?"
"No," Ghes turned back to the screen, "Four days ago they were. Three ships it's believed passed through, fired a shot at a terrestrial satellite and left behind a communication buoy warning of invasion. They've done the same thing with a dozen other inhabited systems in the region. The bad news is they'll be back in three days. Our objective in that time is to make contact with the administration on the planet, and repel the Breen through diplomacy when they come back. This is Federation space; they'll understand that as well as the presence of a Prometheus class starship, if nothing else."
Finally, Ghes sat down, glad to finish the lengthy briefing. He looked around at the officers, "We'll reach that nebula in twelve hours time. Adam, you'll lead the away team to the planet's administrative centre; I'd like you to start preparing your team immediately. This being a delicate situation, you must take at least some security," Ghes let out a grin.
<Tag Parsons>
"Commander Matthew, see to the combat reorganisation of the roster, and Parsons you help out as well. James, also I'd like you to research the social customs of this world and their administrative process of government. I know it's not 'quite' your area, but I need one of us to know this in-depth; try to become an expert in twelve hours."
<Tag Matthew (and Parsons)>
"Doctor Saryn, I'd like you to work with Tiana in studying the extent of genetic engineering in this culture. Have you had experience with such things before?"
<Tag Saryn (and Galwyn)>
Ghes stood, indicating the briefing was basically finished, "Finally, before you leave, a word regarding the Trill representative we have on board. For all of you except Tiana, if she asks anything or needs anything, provide for her, but act professional and use discretion." Ghes dismissed the rest of the officers apart from the two Trills.
<Tag All>
He sat by them and spoke quieter, "Of course, being Trill you two have a different perspective on this. Tiana, how did the meeting with her go? Has she made any conclusions? Of course if you can't or don't want to say..."
<Tag Tiana>
Ghes looked towards the window, the ship remained at high warp. "I have a suggestion," he said, "I'm to meet with Ryat right after this, where she's sure to question me on some things. In the mean while, perhaps you, Vin, can advise Tiana on what Ryat might be asking next, or on how she might act. I'd like you to work together with this if it's allowable. Vin, I also want you to start making tactical plans for security for when we reach the system and for when the team heads planetside. Seeing as any adversaries might be in some way genetically modified, perhaps Tiana can help."
<Tag Tiana Galwyn, Vin Wolf>
The two officers were dismissed and Ghes returned to gazing out the portal. He was surprised at how much he had told his officers. Of course, he'd not told them all, there was much that remained and needed to remain hidden.

"No sir I do not have experience with genetic engineering, not in the manner in which you imply. However I have done extensive research on the matter before this meeting and will continue my research."
The Vulcan doctor glanced over at Tiana. "I will assist you in any manner I am able ma'am," he added, "in the mean time, may I have a word with you after the briefing? It has no bearing on our current mission, however..." He hesitated, meeting her gaze squarely. "It is of a personal nature ma'am, I would prefer to discuss it under private circumstances. Meet my in my office in an hour."
Aside from brushing up on genetic engineering, he had also brushed up his knowledge on Trill physiology. Together with his son Savin, they had pooled their resources so that they could help Tiana in any manner required.
"Sir.." Saryn glanced sideways, staring directly at the Denobulan captain. "I request permission for either myself or my son to accompany Commander Parsons. Anything we may find in the administrator's office, may be useful to our research."
