~ Meritorious Promotions ~
Officer Ranks (Guidelines)
Meritorious promotions below the rank of Captain may be awarded to officers who display an outstanding aptitude for simming, but who choose not to answer the weekly trivia questions. Candidates for meritorious promotion must be nominated by a superior officer and supported by their Commanding Officer. Requirements for promotion will include regular posting over a long period of time (typically several months), a high quality of posting throughout that time and for posts to be of sufficient average length.
Further more, trivia must not have been answered in the last three (3) months, not including periods of LOA or Trivia Only. Meritorious promotion will only be granted if both the Personnel Officer and the Ranks Officer unanimously agree that it is deserved. The opinions of the candidate's XO, CO, Squad CO and Fleet CO will be taken into account where appropriate.
Meritorious promotions will only be granted in special circumstances and will not be a common occurrence. They should therefore not be seen as an alternative to answering trivia questions.
There must be a minimum period of four (4) months between successive meritorious promotions of any one officer. Officers will be allowed promotion only to the next immediate rank. No skipping of ranks will be allowed. Individuals granted a meritorious promotion under these outlined rules will receive the least number of trivia points necessary to gain the next promotion level. The final decision on whether to allow promotion must rest with the relevant CSS officers.
Senior Officer Ranks (Guidelines)
Members have the option to "opt out" of the trivia promotion system, and instead be considered for meritorious promotion. The following is a guide to the criteria and requirements that CSS will use when considering officers for promotion.
General requirements for promotion to any rank are:
It is expected to take between 7-9 months for an active member of the site to reach Commander First Class rank, if they so wish.
Any member may refuse a promotion *
Commanding Officer’s must nominate crew-members for promotions in their monthly reports. Squad CO’ will be expecting this information, and will ask for it. The final decision on promotion rests with the CSS.
Any member holding an Admiral grade rank may also nominate officers for promotion at these levels.
General rules:
The criterion provided here is only a guide and the CSS may decide to promote any officer to any rank that it feels is appropriate. The Section Admiral must agree that such promotion is in fact appropriate.
No officer should be promoted more than once every 12 months. The Section Admiral may authorize a member to be promoted more than this, but only with the majority support of the CSS.
No officer should consider themselves to have an automatic right to promotion, CSS, and CSS alone, will decide when an officer is deserving of promotion.
Only one or more of the criteria needs to be met in order for a member to be considered for promotion, although more may need to be met to actually be promoted.
