The movement of her fingers slowly waned as Kay rubbed Michael’s neck. Once she stopped, he fell back against her with a remarkable flexibility. It had been a very effective therapy and he felt obliged to share with her the pleasure.
“I could do yours next,” he looked up at her and said.
“No,” she declined. “I’ve been thinking…” she said cautiously.
Michael turned sharply and looked at her wondering if Liz had taught her mind-melding as well.
Having laid bare the angst of their time together they sealed it with but a kiss to her hand and a brush of his cheek. For all the complexities that were woven into it all, it was bittersweet irony that there was nothing more to carry on about.
Sitting in silence, he suddenly reached toward the locks of her hair.
“The first thing you should know about a lady,” she said halting his hand, “is never mess with a woman’s hair.”
He wrest his hand from her grasp. “Oh stop it. I was only doing this.” He brushed back her hair exposing her delicate cheek.
“Oh, you’re so soft! I like this!” he said as he nuzzled against her face with a great big hug. Kay squirmed with pleasant shock as he smothered her with boisterous affection. She giggled with a childish laugh that was markedly infectious.
Before she had a chance to settle into him, he scooped her up with his sturdy arms. She squeaked in fear, though mostly for him.
“Yeah, I could definitely get used to this.” Thoughts of a groom and bride played evil tricks in her mind as he carried her about. He let her down as he twirled her around, dancing her across the floor. She followed, matching him step for step.
“You know, you’re much more lighter on your feet than…” fearing her gaze, “…me.”
“Good save.”
“You’re right.” She smiled.
As they danced merrily about, they made their way back to the couch, tumbling over it. The gaiety underscored with their laughter as Kay fell atop Michael. He looked up into her earthen colored eyes as she braced herself above him. The color of the couch brought out the colors of his aqua hued eyes.
Paused in silence, Kay could feel as he drew a slow cautious breath. Michael felt the joy of a woman’s company again as he lay helpless beneath her.
“I guess this begs the question… how do you like your eggs?” He could hear the murmur of her laugh as her brow flexed.
She closed the gap between them. Kay kissed him on the forehead, her lips planting it firmly with love. She moved closer down touching his nose with yet another that seemed rather daft. Ever lower she went until she held right above his lips pouting with suspense. He breathed once more as she teased him with her own then… a peck on the cheek!
Before anything more could happen, “Captain Cornette please report to my ready room immediately.”
“Tell her you’re not here, tell her you’re not here!” he urged. She nudged him.
“It’s a comm-badge, you can’t.”
“Yeah, but… she doesn’t know that.” ;D It was good that she was no longer captain; he was much more funnier when she wasn’t the one being made fun of.
“You’re terrible,” she played.
“Are you coming back?” Michael reeled from the roller coaster of emotions he was riding.
Kay shrugged. “Probably won’t take long. It’s most likely something to do with greeting the evacuees, or something equally as thrilling. I’m not sure Admiral Lin knew what he was doing by assigning me as a diplomat.” She hugged him tightly, yet briefly, and rose to leave.
Still holding her hand, Michael caused her to linger. Kay read his face. “I know… me too. But I’ll be back soon.” She squeezed his hand and they parted reluctantly.
=^=”On my way Captain.”=^=
“Gilen,” asked Nevest, “don’t you think it a bit strange and all?” Nevest was different than the others; an alien he was for sure, but different though not by much.
“How do you mean?” Gilen sat over his console perplexed by the notion of his colleague. Nevest leaned down in a slightly more hushed tone.
“Well all of these calculations you’ve been running, and the seismological activity going on, all point back to beginning about the time the plant hit that ‘Critical’ a bit back, yeah?” Gilen nodded. “Well am I right in saying that the plant was designed to be reinforced against conditions like that and shut down all her primary systems before they hit?”
“Well… I don’t know- another tremor, 2.1 this time in about 2 minutes,” he reported. “Nevest I think you’re looking into things a bit deep there. A commission reported the findings of the incident.”
“But the epicenter does seem to be forming right on top of the whole lot,” Nevest bounced.
“I don’t know what to make of it,” Gilen said pensive about the whole thing. The two of them chatted candidly a bit longer.
“What is this?” Administrator Torthun stalked over to them. The two men looked with anxiety upon the planetary overseer.
“Sir the events here seem to be a bit queer. Ule here thinks that the crisis started after the plant went huffy. The shakes, the build ups, the levels… it’s like they’re connected, but not in the proper way.” His brow furrowed with genuine curiosity.
“We were just engaging in a speculative analysis of the facts.”
“Looks here like the two of you were engaging in a bit of schoolyard tell-tale. What of that tremor you were reporting on earlier?”
“20 seconds, sir.” The facility quivered by the slow vibrations of the planet.
“Yes… I can feel it,” the Administrator said as the two looked on. “Nevest, what are you doing eh?”
“It’s my job to monitor the status of the evacuation.” He stood up straight.
“Well go on!”
“Damages totaling well into the 100 thousands, vents of thermal gas erupted in populated spots-” Nevest began to report.
“We’ve got total debris coverage in part of the planet and signs of magma ruptures elsewhere,” Gilen added.
“-serious failures are happening to the infrastructure. We’ve calculated a number of injuries of which will require prolonged attention but obviously, not here.” Torthun mulled the news with his grim, hawkish demeanor. “I do hope this ship I keep hearing about is up to the task.”
“I hear these Federation ships are massive, they have to be with all the hundreds of alien races making it up.”
“What can you give me on this Dr. Holsen they’re sending? What’s her MyFace page say?”
“It says her status is currently, ‘Haulin’ to a house callin’’; whatever that means,” Gilen read. “The profile says she’s quite experienced in disaster response.”
“So does every Starfleet officer’s record promise. With assurances on professionalism and diplomacy as well. Where the devil is Ades?” [pr. uh-D’s]
“He’s monitoring the evacuation schedule, sir.”
“Well see that he doesn’t fall behind.” The Administrator left as the two remained huddled over Gilen’s console. The readings began to indicate larger build ups of seismic activity.
Just outside Griztek airspace, the ship dropped from warp. Keeping a steady pace, it plotted an orbital spot. They had finally arrived.

JP between Nathan and Stacey:
As she studied the readouts on the console Stacey couldn’t help but take notice of her reflection staring back at her, it was probably the fact that it was her birthday but she couldn’t help but notice the lines around her eyes seemed more pronounced. “I need get more sleep, or fire the person who polishes the consoles in here.” She muttered to herself as she shook her head and punched in a few commands. She didn’t look around but took a deep breath and said louder. “Counsellor I will be with you in a moment.”
Nathan nodded in response, though when she didn't turn, he cleared his throat once. "Take your time captain, I'm in no hurry to go anywhere."
A few moments later Stacey turned and gave a nod to Nathan and motioned for her ready room knowing that Kay had already left it. “Well welcome aboard Counsellor I trust you and your partner had a pleasant trip here?” She said as she led the way. “I can’t seem to recall his name.”
The counselor smiled as he followed her. "Jayden Mitchell," he replied, "and yes we had a pleasant trip here. Very quiet though very swift. The children had the greatest of times there, I must admit, even though Angel's just barely a year old."
Entering her ready room Stacey walked to the couch and sat down with a slight moan. “Excellent.” She patted the seat next to her and said. “Make yourself at home Counsellor.” She reached in front of her and plucked a padd from atop the small coffee table in front of her. “Savot would normally offer a new Counsellor to perform their first session on him.. I shan’t be doing that.” She smiled slightly. “You already know Doctors make the worst patients and needless to say it is the same for Counsellors we make terrible counselling subjects.”
Nathan laughed as he sat down. "Good luck playing counselor on that Vulcan...thank goodness I never had to try and woe the counselor he has." He shook his head, still laughing. "And I know about doctors and counselors, so I won't even bother but thank you for notifying me." He hadn't however, missed the moan. "Are you all right, though?"
Stacey grinned. “Indeed Hannah has her work cut out for her.” Stacey looked at him for a moment and nodded. “Wait twenty years you too will know the joy of involuntary groans and moans when you stand up and sit down.” She slightly shook her head. “Ones body needs to reminds ones mind they are not twenty years old any more from time to time.”
"You're not that much older than me Stacey, surely no more than a decade. And I know all too well the pains of age, though I try my best to keep fit. Surely you remember my medical condition?"
Stacey coyly shrugged her shoulders. “Oh of course a decade at very most!” She then took a deep breath and added. “But as you said you keep fit and I am a Betazoid Human hybrid our life spans are shorter than a full blooded Human or Betazoid.” She smiled again before quickly saying. “And the correct response you could have given was ‘surely you jest you don’t look a day over forty!” She paused before adding “But I am benevolent leader so I shan’t hold it against you.” Her tone denoting jest.
Nathan had the grace to look embarassed. "I didn't mean to imply that you're old," he offered, "I have yet to hope to look as good as you do, at your age, when I get that far." He smiled. "Your child is long since grown, mine have yet to reach puberty."
Stacey smiled widely and patted his shoulder. “I was only joking with you Nathan.” She nodded and added. “Oh yes the children! People say the best parts are when they get married and graduate biggest pack of lies around the real best part is when you get to sit back and watch your grandkids put them through what they put you through!” She nodded satisfied. “Personally I am waiting with eager anticipation for when James gets the stage of being escorted home by Starfleet Officers three in the morning completely drunk, karma is a harsh mistress.”
"James?" Nathan looked a little confused here. "Well...I can see Freddy being a handful when he turns sixteen but that's a while off. He's only eight. Besides, I think growing up on a starship helps, surrounded by rules and regulations. Right?"
“My grandson.’ She clarified. “You would think.” She agreed with a nod. “But you’d be wrong where there is a will there is a way and breaking rules, breaking bones and getting drunk with your friends is an important part of growing up.” She took another breath. “The more rules you put on them the more inventive they get to break them and so they should at no other time in life can you do that and not have it ruin a career or something.”
"I'd think that with a marine as father, a child would learn discipline, right?" Nathan grimaced. "That time is a while off though, so I'm going to enjoy them being a child first. He's only eight and a very obedient boy, so far. I can't recall him giving me much trouble, barring that time when he insisted on going to the bridge with Captain Reynolds. I trusted Reynolds to take care of him while I was on an away mission and got myself in a good amount of trouble, albeit unintentionally. He got my son hurt." He cast her a sharp look. "How child-safe is the Rainier?"
She smiled. “Oh yes you’re a bit far off from all that yet.” Her face took a more solemn look. “I don’t personally know Captain Reynolds so I won’t comment on that but Rainier is equipped with the most advanced child care facilities in the fleet, since we are pretty much new off the production line and all.” She took a deep breath. “As for children on the bridge I don’t allow it, nor in any other restricted area without my prior approval, any minors caught trying to gain access will get the pleasure of sitting in this very room while I glare at them menacingly, even children get scared at the prospect of going to the Captains ready room for a lecture.”
"I'll make sure to imprint that on both my children." He knew that Freddy would try to get to the bridge, he was curious like that. "Though I think you might expect my son to pay a visit no matter what I say."
Stacey smiled. “His efforts would sadly be in vain, the computer won’t take an order for the turbolift to move to the bridge from children or visitors without prior approval from myself or the Executive Officer.. and the Jefferies tubes are monitored around the clock by security sensors he would be transported or escorted back before he got within ten meters of the access hatch, the designers of this vessel learned their lessons from multiple hostile takeovers of the bridge over the years.”
She took a deep breath and added. "But once this mission is over and things go back to normal I am sure a visit can be arranged officially so his curiosity may be sated."
"I'll let him know to wait for your invitation," Nathan promised. "Was there anything else?"
“Good.” Stacey stood up and walked over behind her desk, sitting down she looked at her desk for a moment thinking of how to correctly put into words what she was thinking. “Yes there is, I recently promoted Captain Cornette to my Executive Officer.” She paused. “While I have no doubt as to her technical skill to perform the duties I have concerns as to how she will emotionally handle it.” Stacey leaned back in her chair. “Cornette not that long ago lost her own vessel to a tragic accident and was placed here as a Diplomatic Officer, it isn’t easy for a long time Captain to suddenly find themselves on a vessel where they are no longer in command.”
She sighed. “This can’t be easy for her, I don’t think anybody would find it easy, when time permits for the both of you I’d like you to have a session with her.”
"Well, that seems to be my job these days." Nathan smiled. "I walked into sickbay earlier, only to realise my mistake a little too late. I'll have a word with Miss Cornette at my earliest opportunity. I'd like to see my family settled first if I may."
“Captain Cornette.” Stacey replied quickly. “And as I said when time permits for you both, your dismissed Counsellor and welcome aboard I am very happy to have you.”
"Thank you ma'am." With a smile, Nathan left the readyroom, leaving his old friend to her musings.

“I’m going,” said Nevest.
“What?!” Gilen looked to his friend with amused disbelief. The look on the other alien’s face showed conviction that said this was no joke. “Where are you going?”
“I want to look at that power plant. It just doesn’t make sense.” Ule attempted to rationalize the point to his colleague. Gilen was half prepared to believe that the ever more active Nevest was mere talk.
“That’s daft man. Why do you want to go off snooping around there for? The whole place is evacuated and it’s too dangerous to go snooping about.” Gilen’s words were as henpecking to Nevest.
Nevest wasn’t swayed by the dangers or the dissuasion of his friend.
“It’s important that I see that plant for myself-“
“More importantly your job!” fired Gilen. “You’re supposed to monitor the evacuation.”
“Torthun would never bother investigating the incident and anyhow that old buzzard will never notice me gone!”
Gilen stood in defiance of his colleague’s decision. Nevest was adamant even as Gilen moved to hinder his leaving.
“I’m going!” he said as he shrugged Gilen. Gilen stood, unable to stop him, as he looked him in the eye. “Yeah…”
Nevest was off. Gilen returned to his station monitoring seismic phenomena and tracking the planetary decomposition.
Torthun took to the seat as he entered his quarters, plopping down in exasperation. He leaned forward in the sight of a glass bowl that contained what could best be described as a fish.
“Oh Nohdra, my little sweet, Daddy has had an exasperating day.” His moustache curled unmasking the smile that had formed on his face.
As the creature nipped at its food sprinkled down by the Administrator, Malchors looked into the empty expressionless eyes, watching its fervor for the edible powder.
The Administrator tried to let the day’s energy flow out of him as he resigned himself to the comforts of his quarters. The lack of the starship still held weight for him because the evacuation was dependent upon it.
Torthun was disturbed from his ruminations by contact from the command room.
“Where’s Nevest?” Torthun squawked as he entered. The empty responses from the control room and Gilen’s reluctance to tell of Nevest’s departure met the Administrator with hushed silence.
“He left, sir.”
The Administrator’s impassive expression widened.
“Left where?”
“Dunno. He just left.”
“What about Ades?” Torthun effetely questioned.
“He hasn’t checked in, sir. I don’t know where he is right now.”
“To lose one man may be considered a misfortune; two lose both smacks of incompetence.” Torthun proffered.
“Sir, the starship has arrived,” the woman said from her station.
“About time,” the Administrator uttered with some satisfaction.
<Tag Kay, Stacey, anyone?>
The dark abandoned interiors, swallowed in shadow, met with Nevest as he walked through the ruins of what was the power plant. His eyes sharply veered back and forth in search of its secrets; he didn’t understand any of it being out of his field.
The lifeless remnants of the complex, met with the muffled sounds directing the evacuation outside set an eerie underscore to the place.
The place was in a shambles and it showed. Nevest came upon a hole in the floor where it had collapsed. He managed to steer around it as he continued.
Nevest turned into the inner workings of the plant. It was there that he was confronted by something he hadn’t expected.
“No! No, no! It can’t be!”
Bolstered by the horror of what he’d encountered, Ule was in a frenzy as he hurried through the corridors; that which he had been frightened of behind him. He ran, terrified, through the darkness missing the hole in the floor.
Nevest fell. As he lay there, the life was halfway gone from him. Had he been a Human, he would have been severely injured. However, he was not a Human. Nevest was dead.

~Twelve, but that can't be~ ~Why does he never listen to me~ ~Well that was easy~
Stacey leaned forward with her hand over her forehead her thumb and fingers pressing hard against her temples, dozens of voices ran through her head all at once. She had let her concentration slip for just a moment and the mental barriers keeping the thoughts of those around her out failed. While alone in her ready room she felt as though there was dozens of people crammed in the room with her all screaming over the top of each other to be heard.
It took her a few uncomfortable moments but she finally managed to silence them, her mental barriers again firm in place. For the most part individuals without telepathic abilities were blissfully unaware at how they screamed their thoughts across vast spaces; of course there were the odd people who had been trained in ways to hide their surface thoughts.
She took a deep breath and relished the silence, it wasn’t long lived. “Captain, you have a message from Starfleet.” The voice from the comm. Channel sounded as if he was repeating something he had said a few times before; she could only assume it had been lost to her in the myriad of voices.
Sighing Stacey stood up and gingerly walked behind her desk, “Patch them through please.” The small computer screen rose out of the desk silently and an image of the Federation logo appeared on the screen. It took a few moments for the logo to be replaced by a familiar face, “Admiral Davidson, this is a surprise.”
Davidson smiled slightly and replied. “Rank aside for this conversation Stacey, it isn’t strictly a business call.” Stacey furrowed her brow and leaned forward slightly. “Is there a problem Vera? I can’t speak long we are only about ten minutes out from our destination.” She closely studied Vera’s face looking for any signs of what she was about to say.
“It shan’t take long Stacey, who have you made an enemy of out there?” Vera asked leaning back as she did so.
Her eyes thinned slightly, “Enemy is a strong word Vera why do you ask?” Stacey had a fair idea of where the conversation was headed but wasn’t going to take it there herself just in case she was wrong.
“Someone is unsealing records, asking your past acquaintances questions and generally digging for dirt.” She paused for a moment as she slightly scratched her forehead. “It’s all on the quiet side at the moment, but it is going on.”
Stacey sighed heavily feeling as if the last of her energy was rushing out of her. “Admiral Cain I would imagine, she gave one my crew a rather abusive dressing down and I called her on it.” Stacey took a deep breath through gritted teeth, “She didn’t take kindly to it, but I am not overly concerned her bark is worse than her bite.” Shrugging her shoulders Stacey added. “And there isn’t anything earthshaking in my past that would give her what she is looking for; if it amuses her she can dig all she wants.”
Nodding slightly Vera gave a very weak smile. “True enough, you hold out long enough she will find someone else to torment that is usually how it works out.” Her face grew a bit graver as she added. “Just watch your back all the same Stacey, I hear rumour she is working with one of your crew.” She held up a hand. “Very unsubstantiated rumours may have even been started by her to scare you I guess.”
Stacey glanced down for a moment. “It wouldn’t surprise me; she wouldn’t be who she was without a good plot at work and her focusing on me is better than her focusing on who she was before I redirected wrath.” Stacey smiled genuinely. “We all pay a price for our actions eventually only variable is whether you feel it was worth it.” Stacey nodded. “I have a feeling it will be either way.”
Vera frowned slightly. “That’s very cryptic, but as long as you know.”
Stacey looked at the window as she felt the inertial dampeners increase in power as the ship dropped out of warp, she could see the planet already disturbingly massive brown clouds streaked the globe. She frowned as she silently wondered if they would be able to get everyone off the planet it time. Turning back to Vera she said. “Thank You Vera, I must be off now we will speak soon I am sure.” She gave a nod as she pressed a small console and watched the screen flick off and then slowly retract back into the desk.
She placed a hand on the desk to help leverage herself out of the chair; shaking her head she tried to expel the feelings of fatigue.
Walking out onto the bridge she walked to the command chair and pressed the small console on one of the arms. “Bridge to Captain Cornette, we our entering orbit please assemble your away team and head to transporter room one.” She turned to the view screen and said. “Open a channel to the planet, get whoever is in charge.”
It only took a few moments for the screen to show the face of a man who looked about as tired as she felt. “This Captain Stacey Jackson of the Federation starship Rainier, with your permission we will transport down an away team to work in tandem with your evacuation teams and then begin transporting your citizens up.”
It took him a moment to reply as he seemed to take notice of someone out of view. “Thank you Captain, I await the arrival of your team.” He paused and added. “We will require extra assistance in our hospital facility some of the more critically injured patients will need extra preparations for transport.”
Stacey nodded for a moment. “We were prepared for that, my Chief Medical Officer has already made arrangements my Executive Officer will be able to address any specific concerns you may have, Rainier out.” Stacey stepped back and sat down.

Stunned, Kay sat for a few moments absorbing what had just transpired in the Captain's Ready Room. She didn’t know why, or how, or for that matter, how long she would be in the chain of command again. All she knew was she was back and she would do everything possible to keep it that way.
Her senses were sharpened as she read over the PaDD Jackson had given her and immediately memorized its contents. Having responsibilities of import gave her renewed vigor and purpose. Until this moment, she never realized how much she had missed it. Yet, gnawing in the back of her mind, thoughts of her lost crew overshadowed any celebratory feelings. Fleeting thoughts of inadequacies were repeatedly pushed aside. “Do your best – it’s all that’s expected of you,” she chided herself.
'“An hour,”' Jackson had said. Barely enough time to assemble the first team. As she glided through decks on the lift, she decided to contact the team first after which there might be time left to talk to Michael before leaving. He would understand. He was an officer, after all. It did amaze her, however, consistently, in the moments in life she would decide to expand a relationship beyond friendship, she always ran into a brick wall. Love had always eluded her. “I must be lucky at cards – maybe I should take up poker,” she thought.
Sickbay was on her way, so Kay stopped by to personally give Lorna the heads up.
Kay arrived and saw Cris Lieder standing in the doorway of the Doctor’s office holding a large mug of steaming liquid. The two seemed to be locked into conversation. Kay nodded and smiled at her, but duty caused her to interrupt and address Holsen. “Doctor, you are needed on the evacuation team and we’re leaving within the hour.”
(Tag: Holsen)
“We will meet in transporter room one.” Kay scanned Lorna’s office. “Is there a place I can use to contact the rest of the team? I’m presently without an office or quarters to call my own.”
Lorna pointed Kay to a connecting office. Kay excused herself, leaving the two to talk in solitude.
New to her job and only recently given access to ship’s personnel, Kay scanned through files and assembled her team. A counselor was needed on the team and Cornette was mildly surprised to find that one had arrived just as Commander Hope had departed. Nathan van Breughel. He answered Kay’s communiqué energetically and she took a moment to introduce herself since they hadn’t met yet.
=^= “Counselor, I’m… the… newly appointed Executive Officer, Kaylana Cornette.”=^= Her words were unnatural sounding to her own ears. She continued, ignoring her sudden uneasiness. =^= “We’re due to arrive at Griztek within the hour and the Captain has requested a team be ready to beam down as soon as we arrive. The evacuees will undoubtedly be panicky – it could be a lot like herding cats down there – we will need your expertise in handling them properly.” =^=
(Tag: van Breughel)
=^= “I look forward to meeting you in person, Counselor. Transporter Room 1. Cornette, out.” =^=
The remaining calls went smoothly enough as Kay used the duty roster from each department to fill in the team. With the team fleshed out, Cornette gave a quick sigh, knowing her next task would be tougher. She had a little over twenty minutes to make him understand.
She entered Michael’s quarters, without announcing herself this time, and found it quiet and dimly lit. A small light immersed in clear liquid flickered like candlelight casting shimmering flecks all around the room from its perch on a nearby table. A delicate scent of roses was picked up by her nose before her eyes noticed the rose petals scattered on the floor. They formed a path leading to the adjacent room.
Kay cleared her throat noisily. “Um… Michael? Are you there?” Nervously, she paced the room.
“I’m back here,” he cadenced in a song-like voice.
“Uh… could you… could you… ummm… come out here, please?” she stammered wildly.
“I’d rather you come back here,” he said with an inflection Kay would rather have misheard.
“I do have twenty minutes,” Kay thought. She violently shook her head no. “I really, really need you to come out here… Please?”
He suddenly appeared in the doorway of the adjoining room, a loose silken robe tied in such a way that emphasized his small waist and broad shoulders. Just the right amount of bare chest peeked through the neck opening of his robe. Leaning a shoulder against the wall, he crossed his arms across his body, lowered his head slightly piercing her with his aqua-colored eyes.
Crossing to him slowly, she knew now was definitely the wrong time to tell him. It could wait until she got back. “We’ve arrived at Griztek.”
“I know,” he answered simply.
“I have to go.”
“I know that, too.”
She came close and he drew her into his arms. She closed her eyes, resting her cheek on his chest, and found herself wishing she hadn’t said yes to the Captain’s offer. She lingered, drawing strength from the comfort of his embrace as he lightly stroked her hair. Lifting her face, she met his eyes and he smiled contentedly at her. He looked so at peace. She couldn't tell him now. “Keep the candle burning for me until I get back.” She squeezed him tightly, gave him a careful kiss – one that was not too quick, but not too dangerous – and headed for the door.
With all team members present and accounted for, the figures on the pad in Transporter Room 1 fizzled into particles and reassembled in a place that could only be described as Hades.

OFF: This is next in my personal timeline. Obviously many of you will have to post around it. Michael sat, poised in thought. He surrounded himself in the shroud of memories which he hadn’t often thought of. Many of these memories went far back though some new, it was before Majesty and all that. All in all, it was a bit strange, like gazing at the summation of your life in each phase; this is what you’ve created. Kay walked in with a rather startling suddenness. “I had forgotten what all this felt like,” she muttered to herself. Being XO was a uniquely compounded job. It required you to be both captain and coordinator in case one or the other was absent. Malchors Torthun was a hawkish man, austere in his dedication, and distanced in his sociality. He had the feel about him of a raptorous overseer and the communications skills of a padlock. It had seemed to Kay; as if they thought they were supposed to take orders from the Federation as some all-powerful organization that knew how everything was going to be done. She wondered if she should have shared that premonition with Stacey. In dealing with the evacuation there was a complex degree of seismological and political and sociological and so on and so on history to get everything up to speed while trying to sort out the details. Lorna had gone off to catalogue the most serious of situations. She’d have to return to begin a triage for all the following evacuees that would come after including pre-screenings for all arrivals; the one bit of good news, put all responsibility on a professional. Aarons slowly observed her behavior as Kay moved to take a seat. He was barely any notice to her at first. Various faculties of her body began to shut down as her mind called out for more energy. “How were things down there? Wait, before you answer, I was thinking of making wraps!” Out of the clutter of her fatigue she drew her attention to his comments. “Wraps?” “You take layers of items: vegetables, meats, etc. and you roll them up into a wrap and then you eat them. I’ll get some things fried up. The wrapping is this special pita that you roll out…” he rambled. The gaiety with which he spoke about cooking was invigorating the way he lit up; how could she tell him that now she was the Executive Officer on board? It would only serve to complicate things more after the dramatic new step in their relationship. “I take it they were tiring?” He looked at her. She snapped to attention at the sound of his question.“It was long and wearing. I need to clear my mind,” she lamented. Michael could easily sense the need for her to relax. He moved over to where she sat, resting her eyes. “I know a way I could help you relax if you’d like.” Kay looked up. Michael slowly reached his leg across Kay effectively straddling her as he glided his hands over her back as the fingers felt the flesh underneath them. The skin was smooth, flawless across the curved, flowing shape of her back. He could feel the stiffening rigidity forming in her that had been wearing on her for a long time now. It had been sapping her, compounding itself. “I had a lot going on down there. The amount of data to process and figuring out the evacuation, it was really too much.” As Kay muttered to break the silence, Michael began to ease her pain. “I couldn’t help notice the petal’s… Oh…! Hey…! What are you…?! OH…!!! Ah…! Oooooooooooooooohhhhh!” Kay felt as if every muscle in her body melted. She lay there, limp, with an addicting pleasure she couldn’t help but welcome. “I’m just doing what Liz used to do for me.” “A girl can’t complain about this; really is wonderful.” “It’s great for paralysis too.” He followed up with a little lather, warmed in his hands, that he bathed her skin in. It took months of stress off as he worked it into the pores. “Do you miss her?” “Yes. Yes I do.” He continued to explore the geography of her body softening every part of her to where she could barely dare move. Now drunk with the overwhelming pleasure he had caused, Kaylana made friends with the pillow. Having also indulged in her needs, Michael pulled the covers the rest of the way up and planted a soft kiss upon her head. He smiled as he watched her slumber. An hour later, Kay emerged from the bedroom, a new woman. She found him preoccupied by something as she crossed to him and took a seat next to him on the couch. “Sleep well?” The warm, pleasant smile on her face beamed as she answered by pulling him straight into a kiss. When he was allowed to come up for air she hung on his neck with schoolgirl affection. “That was, without a doubt, incredible what you did.” She kissed him all over the cheek. “I believe we were in the middle of something earlier weren’t we?” Harking back to earlier that day when she had him on that very couch in a much more thrilling position. She peppered him with little kisses, teasing him. “Well in that case,” snatching her up in his arm firmly she had little motivation to resist, “I believe I owe you something.” Her back arched as he leaned in with her. She closed her eyes as she felt him closer and closer. The wave of passion which he proposed to unleash was immense. He moved in to fully BEEP!They both looked up, startled by the sound. The quiet made them ignore it as they turned back to each other. He leaned in, madly wanting to make her… BEEP!“Dammit,” he muttered as he trudged to the door. The door slid open to reveal a young lady of unrecognized species. Her manner expressed unsure feelings. “I’m Ashari. I was told to come to Commander Aarons’ quarters.” Her words bounced off of him in his stupor. “Is this right?” “Uh… yes, that’s right.” His mind preoccupied by the previous moment, he was unable pick up on the subtlety. “They told me that they were providing accommodations here.” “Oh, yes, please come in,” he realized. She was young and not overall unattractive. This was shaping up to a rather unique arrangement. “Alright we’re here,” she turned and said. Suddenly, she was accompanied by three little children all huddled around their mommy. Oh crap.<tag Kay>

Cris Lieder
Well, Lorna hadn't come back to their quarters and according to the computer she was still in her office. Cris Made up a very large mocha in an insulated cup and set off for sickbay. It was well past time for Lorna to be home.
"Come on Lorna, I have no idea what you are working on now but it isn't going to be the end of any world if you come home and get some sleep. I brought mocha for you."
"Just ten more minutes?" Lorna pleaded.
"Your work will never be done at the moment. You can have two and then I'm going to take you back for dinner. I'll arm lock you if necessary."
Lorna sighed and then nodded tiredly. "Agreed"
Cris was a touch worried, Lorna hadn't protested that she would be armlockable and that only occurred when she was really exhausted.
“Doctor, you are needed on the evacuation team and we’re leaving within the hour.”
Cris growled at the intruder. She recognised Captain Cornette of course but this really wasn't a good time.
Lorna looked up tiredly.

Lorna Holsen
Lorna had managed to get all the kinks ironed out of the medical evacuation plan. She doubted the plan would survive contact with the medical emergency but it was the best she could do at the moment. Her staff was tense. There had been three near confrontations in the last 18 hours which wasn't good but they had emotions too so she had pretty much expected it, still it was no good for getting things done. Still her staff were on her side she had only had to stop one of the confrontations, she would have liked to see the double tackle by Cris and K'lana but she would live without knowing.
She was hours past the end of her shift and no doubt Cris would be coming looking for her very soon. Just as Lorna thought that,
"Come on Lorna, I have no idea what you are working on now but it isn't going to be the end of any world if you come home and get some sleep. I brought mocha for you." "Just ten more minutes?" Lorna pleaded, knowing that her wife would not be easily got rid of. She was right though it wouldn't be the end of the world but she would worry that she could have done more.
"Your work will never be done at the moment. You can have two and then I'm going to take you back for dinner. I'll arm lock you if necessary." Lorna sighed and then nodded tiredly. "Agreed" She did not doubt her wife's ability to do as she said, they were a pretty even match most of the time but at the moment Cris was far better rested.
“Doctor, you are needed on the evacuation team and we’re leaving within the hour.” Cris growled at the intruder. Lorna looked up tiredly and gave a half smile to Kay while waving a hand to get Cris to stand down. She agreed with her wife's sentiments, the timing was pretty bad but there was nothing for it but to go with it, orders were orders.
"Cris can you swap that for an espresso, please. I'll go grab a shower and a change of uniform. The first team should all ready be on standby."
She sighed and stood up scuffing a had through her hair. She wasn't as physically tired as she felt she was, it was mostly mental. Coffee and a shower and she'd be good to go. If she wasn't then there were other alternatives, but she'd rather not go down that road unless she had to.
Lorna thanked Kay and promised that she would be ready for the mission, she and Cris went back to their quarters.
Lorna made the of the following three-quarters of an hour, coffee a high energy stack, very strong shower and a change of uniform and she was ready to go. Cris was also packed and ready to go, she was part of the first team as well. She was a specialist in medicine in bad situations it made sense.
Lorna planted a kiss on Cris's lips just before the two of them left their quarters with medical packs and proper clothing ready to go. The medical team was assembled. Lorna didn't need to check how they were prepared that was something everyone had gone over many times.
"Right, when we get planet side; teams alpha and beta on locate and rapid triage. Red casulties straight to the Rainer. Teams gamma and delta, yellow casulties and coralling of the walking wounded. I'm co ordinating with local search teams and be available for emergeny procedures if needed. Stay safe, keep in contact and know where your buddy is at all times."
Everyone nodded and prepared to go down to the planet.
OOC: The colour code Lorna and the medical teams are using is red - critical, yellow - serious, and green - minor. Black is for DOAs

Though they were miles away from the actual eruptions, the air was hot and filled with dust. The sky was darkened with ash which gave an appearance of dusk even though it was midday. Kay could see the outlined figure of a man leading a small group. As he approached, his steps quickened. Kay read his haggard face and took pity on his bleary-eyed expression. He was a man pushed to his extremes. Short on pleasantries, he greeted Kay coolly. “I’m Administrator Malchors Torthun. Are you the doctor?”
“No, I’m Kaylana Cornette, Executive Officer of the Rainier, but the doctor is with us along with her medical contingent. Our priority is to evacuate the severely injured first…”
“I’ll direct you to our hospital facilities now…” Torthun overlapped his words with Kay’s. “Pardon my speaking over you,” he said with a measure of uneasiness, as if he had offended her. “I am merely anxious about getting everyone to safety.”
Kay nodded at him, “So am I. Together, we’ll get it done. She then nodded at Lorna and her teams. They quickly fell in step behind the Administrator.
Kay and her remaining team, consisting mostly of Holsen’s delta team designees, a few geologists and a large security compliment, met up with their Griztek counterparts at a centralized command center. The ‘command center’ was a tarp thrown over makeshift shelter, but it had the equipment needed to track both the evacuation and monitor volcanic activity.
Knowing that Commander TEG had modified the cargo transporters to convey personnel, Kay went over the details with the Griztekians, making certain they had evacuees separated into the proper numbers. She relayed the coordinates back to the Rainier with instructions that any transport request from Doctor Holsen would take precedence.
A Griztek woman pointed to several dots displaying on a screen and informed Kay that there were still several provinces who haven’t given the all clear - meaning that there were still people who hadn’t reported to an assigned group for transport. The outlying communities were difficult to communicate with, she explained, and some residents were probably too scared to leave. Cornette surmised the only way to get to them was to transport there with an extraction team.
After some curt words with a very busy transporter operator on the Rainier, she convinced him to transport her small, specialized search team to a nearby farming community.
At first glance, it appeared deserted, except for some small birdlike creatures resembling turkeys pecking at the ground and scattering as the party drew near. The skies here were blacker and a fine powdery ash covered every motionless object. The ground trembled slightly then stilled.
Tricorder scans told Kay that the people were inside a modest building directly ahead; no doubt the family home. She approached the door and hesitated, not knowing the protocol for announcing oneself before entering a house on this planet. She decided a simple cheery, ‘hello’ would suffice. Her greeting was met with silence, however, so she decided to rap lightly on the door. After a while, the door opened slightly and a young woman peered cautiously out.
“Hello, we’re here to help you. You need to leave your home and go somewhere safe.” Kay hoped her calming voice would coax the woman to open the door wider. “Is there anyone else here with you?”
The woman spoke frantically, “Yes, but one of my children won’t leave. She’s hiding under her bed and I can’t get her to come out. She’s too scared.” The frightened mother was at her wit’s end. “I’ve resigned myself to stay here with her. I can’t leave her behind.” At this, she broke down in tears. Her other daughter clung to her mother’s dress tail and cried in unison as her older son looked on and tried to be brave.
“Maybe I can help,” Kay consoled, “What’s your daughter’s name?” “Iolae. She back there,” the mother said, pointing.
Kay moved to the room where the child was hiding and crouched down so she could peer under the bed. The child lay all the way on the other side, curled in a tight ball close to the wall. A small blanket was clutched tightly in her arms. Kay spoke as gently as she could, given the urgency of getting her out quickly. “Iolae? My name is Kay… I’m here to take you somewhere very safe.” The girl, not more than 3 years old, sobbed and wailed pitifully, “No, no, no… “ She scrunched herself closer to the wall.
”I don’t have time for this,” Kay thought impatiently. “Iolae?... here… look… look what I have.” Kay reached under the bed slowly and showed her Tricorder to the child. She activated it, and the screen’s colored lights and sounds captured Iolae’s attention. Kay could see the girl’s body relax as her curiosity was piqued.
“Mine,” Iolae whined.
“I’ll let you play with it. Come on out. I’ll show it to you.” Kay pulled the Tricorder further away as Iolae scooted closer to grab it.
Iolae’s mother peeked in the bedroom to find her little one sitting in Kay’s lap and happily mauling a Tricorder. Kay looked up at her, smiling. “Leave everything except what you can easily carry. The ship will have everything you need.”
A relieved mother smiled back. “Thank you.”
................Back on the ship and after Aarons' post................
"Alright, we're here," she turned and said. Suddenly, she was accompanied by three little children, all huddled around their mommy. The smallest one, looking to be about 3 years old, bolted from her mother’s skirts and bounded toward Kay.
“KayKay! My toy! My toy!”
Kay laughed and scooped up the little girl. “Iolae! It’s good to see you again!”
“My toy!”
“Alright, sweetie… I’ll see if I can find your toy.” Kay hugged Iolae who was squirming with joy and looked up at Ashari. “What are the odds you’d be assigned to these quarters?”
“KayKay?” Aarons looked at Kay with a bemused grin.

"I'll be ready captain," Nathan promised, as he settled his young daughter in her crib. He glanced sideways at Jayden, who simply shrugged. "In the mean time, I think you and I should schedule a meeting ma'am. Can we meet in say, ten minutes?"
(Kay)
"I'd rather not discuss this over a comlink ma'am, I do have company." He smiled. "I doubt you'll appreciate my husband overhearing our conversation. I'll meet you in your office in ten minutes." He cut the connection, then smiled down at Angel. "That's a good girl, now go to sleep love."
Angel looked up at him, stretching her arms out. "Daddy?"
Nathan sighed and picked her up again to give her another cuddle. "Enough is enough dear one, you need to go to sleep. Daddy has work to do." Yet she held on to him, as if for dear life. "Some help?" he implored his mate.
Jayden smiled and took her from him, then put her down in the crib. "Daddy'll be back in the morning to read you stories," he promised, "now this daddy will look after you until then, all right?"
"Yes papa," the girl replied, yawning. "Night.."
"Such a sweetling," Nathan mused as he watched her, "and amazing how you get her to sleep so quick when with me she puts up such a struggle. It's almost a struggle for power, so different than what I'm used to with Freddy."
The marine merely smiled and pulled the man close. "That's because you're such a wuss and I'm a marine," he teased, "now go, you don't keep a captain waiting. I'm off duty for now, I'll look after her and I'll put Freddy to bed when he gets home." He kissed his husband. "Go now, and be careful all right?"
"What would I do without you." Nathan smiled, then left his quarters to meet with the new first officer. Remembering what the captain had said about commanding officers and counselors, he knew that no doubt it was the same for first officers. Arriving at her office only two minutes shy of the deadline, he knocked on the door. "Captain Cornette? It's Nathan.."

Lorna had personally red tagged three people straight up to the Rainer. The total number who'd gone up was much higher but so far the medical staff were holding up. Lorna was flitting from group to group as she tried to stay informed on what all of her people were ddoing. Most of the people who in the hospital were properly diagnosed and had records. Some of the other patients who had been extracted from some of the rescue sites by alpha and beta teams didn't even have names. Power had been knocked out in some places and quite a lot of the low level comm links were also down.
Still, all of the medical staff were able to deal wih this situation, it had been expected and planned for. A man and a girl who appeared to be about ten years old were the only unidentified patients at the moment but no doubt things could and would change.

“Captain, the evacuation is now entering the final phase, estimated time until all colonists are aboard is twenty two minutes.” Came the sudden break in silence, the tone even as was to be expected from a Vulcan.
Stacey took a deep breath as she repositioned herself in the command chair, the sudden voice talking to her breaking her out of her daydreaming. “Thank you T’Sek.” She replied suddenly realising she had yet to do so. “Slate extra hours of down time for all members of Engineering and Medical priority to those who have worked double shifts.” She could sense the growing fatigue from those departments in particular since Engineering had been working overtime to ready the ship and Medical was now in a sea of medical exams and emergency treatment procedures.
The Vulcan Lieutenant looked up and replied. “Aye, aye Captain.” She then went about sending memos to affected departments before looking up and adding. “And yourself Captain? According to my calculations it has been forty three hours twenty two minutes since you last had sleep.”
Stacey turned her head and frowned slightly. “First of all Lieutenant, the fact you know that down to the minute is a little creepy, second your concern in appreciated and noted once the evacuation is fully completed and we are underway to their new colony I will certainly avail myself of the opportunity to sleep.”
She turned her head so her eyes were now again focused on the view screen, anybody who had been looking into them would have seen view screen itself reflected on the black eyes as they stared. The cloud of smoke, ash and dust was eerily mesmerizing as it swirled its way across the planet, the different shades of brown and black mixing as it went.
Time seemed to lose meaning for her as she stared, whether that was because her concentration was focused on the planet or whether it was due to a lack of sleep she didn’t know but as she began to let her eyes wander she couldn’t help but feel everything had slowed to a halt. It took a few minutes but she eventually shook her head slightly and took a deep breath.
She stood up slowly and took a deep breath, turning to look at the Vulcan Officer she said. “Inform me when the evacuation is complete.” Turning to helm she said. “Once it is set a course for the new colony and engage at warp Eight point five.” With that she again nodded at the Vulcan and said. “You have the bridge lieutenant.”
**Deck Two** Stacey walked up to the door and pressed the small console, the computer had told her Cornette was in her quartes but she was too tired to sense it. Finally the doors opened and Stacey looked at Kay at first not noticing anybody else present. Before she spoke though a glimpse of Commander Aarons in the background made her look past Kay.
“Commander Aarons, I am beginning to get the impression you never actually spend any time at your duty station, when it is convenient for you of course please find the time to spend some time there, lest you forget where it is.” Her stare lingered for a moment before she added. “My name is Jackson, Not Stubing, treat your duties accordingly.”
Her head turned and she looked at Cornette. “Captain, I am pleased that the evacuation went so smoothly.” She paused for a moment before adding. “I have assigned extra off duty hours for Engineering and Medical, can you please see to it that both Doctor Holsen and Commander TEG avail themselves of it and not just their staff.”
She took a step back her eyes focused on Cornettes and she seemed to concentrate, it wasn’t easy when tired to project her thoughts to a human, “That child in there with you, return her to her parents immediately, they are probably worried out of their minds, they are not used to being on heavily armed starships.” With that Stacey took a deep breath and broke eye contact.
“Captain.” She simply said before turning to walk back down the corridor.

"10 cc adrenaline", Cris held out her free hand, she was wedged half under a collapsed building and was maintaining chest compressions on her latest patient. She couldn't reach her own medical kit and the hypospray was quickly slapped into her outstreched hand, the only bit of her that was visible outside the collapsed building.
This reminded her of the day she had met Lorna. At least the temperature wasn't dropping this time. Cris was scrunched into a small space on what had once been the second floor of a building now it was only about 2 metres above the ground but given that the building had had four below ground levels it was hvery precarious. Cris's patient was a boy who seemed no older than 5. He was pinned beneath a structural beam, Cris didn't think the beam was actually impaling the boy but she didn't know how long he had been trapped and as soon as that beam was move there was going to be problems. Crush syndrome loomed large in her mind, however, at the moment her major concern was keeping the boy alive. He'd been a code white when they had gotten to him but now he was alive, at least so long as she maintained the compressions.

JP with Admiral Jackson and C1C Jamison **************************************************
It had been a rather short trip to Starbase 47, the refugees had been settled into their new homeworld. Stacey had stayed in her quarters for the duration she didn’t feel much like talking to anyone. Nor did she much feel like going to the bridge, it already felt like it wasn’t hers anymore.
She moved into the bathroom and looked at her reflection, she tilted her head slightly as she looked at the gold trim that now adorned her uniform. She nodded slightly and took a deep breath. “The beach will have to wait.” She mumbled as she began to place her toiletries in a small suitcase.
** One hour Later **
She stepped toward the door and briefly turned to look at the now Spartan quarters, she smiled slightly before turning and leaving them for the last time. She stepped onto the bridge and said. “Bring us into dock.”
**Fifteen minutes later**
She had officially stepped off of the Rainier, technically she was now no longer Captain. She felt conflicted in that moment but she didn’t have time to fully think about it as she spotted her replacement walking toward her.
“Commander Jamison?” She said as she walked up.
"Admiral . It's an honor to meet you." Will said with all the respect due to the senior officer.
“This is your first Command I see, don’t stress too much your will have a fine crew, trust your judgement and trust your crew.” She smiled slightly. “The command codes have been transferred to Captain Cornette your First Officer, I am sorry we don’t have time for a formal ceremony but apparently I have a bunch of meetings.”
"I understand, Ma'am." Will replied. "You've been promoted to a very busy and demanding position. I wish you the best of luck with it."
She held out her hand for him to shake. “Congratulations, and good luck Captain.” She motioned for the airlock and said. “She is all yours now, take care of her or I’ll bust your backside down to cadet.” She began to walk off and added. “Oh I took the chair from the ready room as well you’ll want to get a new one.”
"Yes, Ma'am." Will said with a smile and a wave. He than entered the airlock and headed to the bridge of his ship. He just hoped that his excitement and nervousness wasn't as obvious as he felt.
