If this ship was to the crewed, what about it being crewed by a larger crew than seen before on this site? In Star Trek, to keep the numbers down only the daytime shift was really used and action never seemed to happen for the other three shifts (although this could just be taken that we are only ever shown that which concerns the daytime crew). If this ship was to be sitewide then we could have all 4 shifts crewed by the shift department head, giving 4 times the number of simmers able to take part in such a way and with the option for less active (or less interested but still wanting to have a go) simmers to take part as more minor departmental staff.

I don't think that's a good idea. It'd get way too clogged up, there would be confusion as to who is doing what and when, plus we don't have enough people to put four crews on one ship.

I just wanted to post this for general reference ... The USS Titan (the new books with Captain Riker) ... the publishers asked if the fans would submit ship designs for Riker's new ship ... Luna-class 2379 (ish) putting that class ship in the 12 year-old (ish) as far as S47 is concerned ... again just reference. There is the link ... www.simonsays.com/content/feature.cfm?sid=44&feature_id=4347Also ... they have links to Notable entries ... ... just something to look at ...

What is the exact mission of this ship?
Constitutions were exploration, so were well armed, scientific but essentially basic. Galaxies were consolidation/ heavy cruisers so were more plush with civilians on board but not so battle hardy as the Sovereigns later were. Defiants were basic warships. Intrepids were fast exploration. Sovereigns were scientific battleships and followed similar design ideals to Constitutions.
So what this one's mission actually IS will change what it looks and is like. If it's everything then it won't be as efficient in any given field as the types which specialise.

It is similar to the Galaxy class, I think we have agreed, it is for exploration, but will contain families and will be able to be a formidable battleship.

Something like a sovereign class but there's more than a touch of the intrepid class there too.

He didn't say it was ANY class....the last picture of the second link shows the name 'Excalibur' in what can only be described at the same position where it says 'Enterprise' on the E, and A, just under the shuttlebay (perhaps others, but I am not too sure)
