The roiling miasma of reddened gas that was the Great Spot lay out towards the horizon, its flanks spread wide across the visible part of the globe. Jupiter's curving surface filled more and more of the viewscreen as the Enzio lowered itself towards the planet, positioning itself for its atmospheric dive.
The bridge crew had put the eye of the spot on full magnification on the viewscreen. They could see the unusual energies playing quite visibly about the Spot - tantalising glimpses of what lay ahead in their exploration of it, but also a warning that what lay ahead was nothing trivial.
Judging by Javey Fallan's reaction, Ghes surmised that the Doctor wasn't too confident the Enzio could immediately crack this problem. Fallan, Gheskori and Commander Galwyn Cet were in the main control room on Jupiter Station watching a situational graphic of the Spot. Overlaid information provided a summary of all that they knew about the anomalies at this point.
"So what exactly is going on there?" Ghes furrowed his brow in confusion at the display; the bafflement was clear in his voice. He was a scientist by trade but was also a helmsman, and he was very out of practice at both.
Fallan laughed quietly, exchanging looks with Tiana. "That's it, Captain, we just don't know. We have a great deal of data and have made sense of some of it, but the bulk is unintelligible and indecipherable by modern science." He coughed and looked at the screen, "Of course, that gives us reason to doubt that which we have made sense of..."
Ghes glanced at the Doctor, and then at Tiana. "Which is?"
"Very intense gravitational waves, that aren't being caused by any observable source of mass. They pulse outwards omnidirectionally from a localised region and with a period of a few hours. Not like a black hole," he said emphatically, preempting the question forming on Gheskori's lips. "There is nothing to indicate such a thing's presence when we take Jupiter itself. If there was a massive singularity, Jupiter itself would've been largely affected. Perhaps subspace..."
Fallan's pause drew out until Ghes prompted, "Yes?"
"I'm not in the business of that sort of speculation, Captain," Fallan said solemnly, "It seems you and your ship will have to investigate closer just like Starfleet have seen fit to make you do. Let's hope you can find something, right?"
"Well, right." The Denobulan Captain looked around the command centre, "We're make ourselves ready, Doctor. My XO has positioned the ship and I should be getting back aboard so we can start."
"Very well. I'll monitor your situation closely from here." Fallan nodded and turned back to his display, folding his arms and regarding it pensively, with a quiet sort of obsession.
<Tag Tiana - add anything about the Spot anomalies or anything else - Ghes doesn't know much>
Ghes turned away and used the communications station to contact the Enzio, "USS Enzio, Gheskori, come in." He waited for the response. "Adam, we're beaming back aboard. Perform a test run of the new sensors and tell Lieutenant Commander Walters to start monitoring his hull strengthening work. We're going in."
<Tag Parsons, Walters, All> [OOC: Let's get back into it now christmas is past us - we're heading down towards the Spot]

@tiana: if you read my jp with ghes, you can assume you've been forwarded a neural scan from the doctor's son, savin. He is unconscious in sickbay and his scans indicate that he's not alone in his own mind. Ghes had some ideas there....talk to him ON: While waiting on a report back from the science chief on his son's condition, Saryn just sat beside the young Vulcan's bed. He had studied the read-out again and again, and had even let several nurses take a peek in the hope a fresh set of eyes might turn up something. A few hours had passed now, since the young man had been committed to sickbay, and he hadn't regained consciousness since then, even though the sedation had started to wear off. Logically, by now Savin would have to rouse and wake up. But he didn't. Yet, he wasn't peaceful in his current state. He seemed restless, Saryn could see as much as well as sense it. He leaned forward, resting a hand on his eldest's still form, aiming to be of comfort. Under his hand, Savin seemed to flinch at the touch, a twitch passing across his features. Saryn pulled his hand back, reaching to take the boy's hand instead. Savin's fingers curled around his hand, tightening their grip as if in reflex and the older Vulcan sighed in relief. He felt his son's katra when he touched the younger man's temple, but it was almost as if he wasn't really there, as if he was somewhere far away, and lost. He could feel the fear and it made him recoil in response. Saryn stared at the prone body and shook his head. He just didn't understand, how could this have happened? And more importantly, when? They hadn't been seperated for that long, even though Saryn had lost sight of him for several minutes. And he didn't start this odd behaviour until they got closer to Jupiter. Again, he brushed his fingers past his son's temple, offering thoughts of comfort and safety and a promise that all would be well. Sighing to himself, Saryn made sure his son was comfortable, before moving to his office. He tapped his combadge as he activated his computer screen. "Commander Cet, can we have a word? It is urgent." He tapped it again, without awaiting her response. "Commander Walters, please report to sickbay." Saryn knew the young officer had befriended his son, and he wondered if perhaps he could be of assistance.

When word from the Captain came announcing the impending drop into the Jovian atmosphere, Commander Walters pulled up a high-detail status screen of the hull on his screen, one programmed to give realtime color-coded and numerical stress readouts. His engineering teams had even programed in several new alerts that were based on the most conservative engineering analyses available, and damage-control and repair teams were on standby throughout the ship, ready to strengthen any section that was having trouble. All in all, engineering was as ready as it could be for the drop.
Gametime he announced to himself, shifting in his chair to make sure he didn’t get too comfortable.
=^=Commander Walters, please report to sickbay.=^= The call was unexpected and threw the engineer off. If it had been anyone else he probably would have turned down the call since his services were about to become very critical for the Enzio’s short-term survival, but this was the CMO calling. Doctors don’t get told no.
Tapping his own commbadge, =^=On my way Doctor.=^= He kept the console running, instead he double-tapped his commbadge as he walked over to the turbolift. =^=Hriss, it’s Walters. I need you to cover for me on the Bridge for a little while, I just got a call from Sickbay.=^= A thought just popped into his head. =^=Did someone get injured down there?=^=
=^=Not that I know of Commander, and I’m on my way.=^= Hriss said right as the doors closed. That really made Will wonder what was going on, and he was trying to figure it out all the way to the Sickbay doors. They opened as usual when he stepped up to them, and as he looked around everything seemed in order. Spotting Doctor Saryn by a biobed, Will walked over without looking.
“What can I do for you Doctor?”

OOC: Thanks Ghes and Saryn for the hooks. not sure about the timeline so I hope you are happy with this. I'm still laying catch up...
Before Jupiter Station
Tiana just about had time to grab a shower and wash the martain dust off before she was assigned to go to Jupiter Station. She was looking forward to seeing Javey again but wished it was under better circumstances. The transit gave her a short time to check in the lab. She was quite surprised when she was paged from sickbay with a copy of a brain scan from Savin. She glanced at it and started noting down her impressions, it looked a lot like her own neuroscan Tiana's and Cet's both visible. She didn't have time to a detailled examination now, her mind was still full of atmospheric dynamics and radiation interactions. Sacha Invanov was the best neurochemist in the science department she made a note to check with the medical staff before bringing him in as well. She was on the verge on sending a message to sickbay when she was paged to the transporter room. She gathered up her tricorder, PADD and the emergency kit she had packed. Javey would have the place properly equiped but the place was under stress and it was good not to drain resources, plus she liked to have her things the way she wanted them and immediately to hand.

"Let's take her in, shall we?" Ghes said, peering around the bridge and experiencing a curious elation of his mood. Most of the crew looked back at him dubiously - if they looked at all - and there were a few clearings of throats before Ghes realised they were waiting for a proper order.
"Helm, all ahead full. Ops and tactical, coordinate with science and start scanning the Great Red Spot with the new sensor equipment." The Denobulan settled into his chair, assuming the role of Captain with a certain practiced ease.
"Sir, there are gravity waves coming towards us, pulsing from the Spot every five and a half minutes," the on-duty tactical officer reported.
Ghes considered this new bittersweet information and conferred briefly with XO Parsons. On the positive side, this meant the sensors were registering something that hadn't properly been seen before, but on the negative side... "Let's get there as fast we can in the periods between the waves," he stated, "Then when the pulse comes, helm, bank off at what you consider an appropriate angle to absorb the shock of the wave. Plot a course directly into the centre of the Spot; we'll do ten circles if we can and then climb out the other side. In we go now.
"Commander Walters, this is the Captain." Yellow alert signals were now flashing around the bridge, "Do what you can to strengthen the Structural Integrity Field. Try hardening it every time one of the gravimetric waves passes through. This could be rough."
<Tag Walters>
The viewscreen displayed the same image it had before: a swirling mix of oranges and reds and cobalt blues. But while before it had been rather interesting, hypnotising even, now it took on a sickening visage; Gheskori felt the bile rise in his gut at the thought of what could be done to the Enzio if they allowed, not just the pulses to compromise the ship, but the very stuff of Jupiter's atmosphere.
The ship perceivably started to shake about three minutes into their passage. They were tearing through a middle atmospheric layer of Jupiter, filaments of orange and grey shooting past them on the viewscreen. Besides that though, there was very little conception of their huge velocity.
"We're about to hit the first gravimetric wave," someone intoned.
Ghes had barely heard her at first, lost as he was in the viewscreen's tangerine miasma. "Bank hard now," he ordered. Inertial dampeners kicked in and the bridge darkened for several moments as they were nearly thrown from their feet. "Not that hard!"
One of the consoles had gone dead and there was a slight smell of burning in the air. "Report," Ghes said.
"The first wave's passed. Casualties minimal... We've lost some sensor coverage," tactical offered magnanimously. Indeed, one of the new sensor arrays had failed.
Not a great start at all, Ghes thought with alarm. He opened a shipwide comm, "All departments, full damage evaluation sent to the bridge. Engineering get on the failures and analyse SIF. Sickbay, prepare to receive possible casualties."
<Tag All Departments>
"Commander Matthew, what are our experimental sensors picking up? Anything out of the ordinary besides these mysterious gravity waves?" Ghes knew more might be revealed the closer they got to the Spot - which should be very soon, if they could make it there in one piece...

OOC: sorry about the double post, I apologise if my labelling the last one Part 1 put anyone off posting, it wasn't my intention. Ghes, i know I've copied most of your post but I hope there are enough additions here to make it worthwhile.
At Jupiter Station
Tiana was relieved to see Javey, but the dark rings under his eyes told the story of how much he had been affected by what had happened. She wasn't going to mention it, that would be tactless and cruel, she was however going to watch him carefully. He would probably relalise what she was doing but that didn't matter.
She focussed on the detailled image of the great red spot. A storm the size of a planet that had been raging for over 800 years, how could one not be awed. And that was before the current changes.
"So what exactly is going on there?" Ghes furrowed his brow in confusion at the display; the bafflement was clear in his voice.
Javey laughed quietly, exchanging looks with Tiana who was grateful to hear that sound. "That's it, Captain, we just don't know. We have a great deal of data and have made sense of some of it, but the bulk is unintelligible and indecipherable by modern science." He coughed and looked at the screen, "Of course, that gives us reason to doubt that which we have made sense of..." Ghes glanced at the Doctor, and then at Tiana. "Which is?" "Very intense gravitational waves, that aren't being caused by any observable source of mass. Perhaps subspace..." Tiana let Javey talk, using his words to clarify her own thinking. They had done this when they were both thesis writing. It worked.
Javey's pause drew out until Ghes prompted, "Yes?"
"I'm not in the business of that sort of speculation, Captain," Javey said solemnly, "It seems you and your ship will have to investigate closer just like Starfleet have seen fit to make you do. Let's hope you can find something, right?"
"Well, right." The Denobulan Captain looked around the command centre, "We're make ourselves ready, Doctor. My XO has positioned the ship and I should be getting back aboard so we can start."
"Very well. I'll monitor your situation closely from here." Javey nodded and turned back to his display, folding his arms and regarding it pensively, with a quiet sort of obsession. Tiana didn't like the set to his spine. They had to find something soon, if they didn't she feared it would break her friend.
"I think it would be worth scanning the subspace frequencies and checking with local monitoring and relay stations to see if they have suffered any disruption."
Ghes turned away and used the communications station to contact the Enzio, =/\=USS Enzio, Gheskori, come in.=/\= He waited for the response. =/\=Adam, we're beaming back aboard. Perform a test run of the new sensors and tell Lieutenant Commander Walters to start monitoring his hull strengthening work. We're going in.=/\=
Tiana had a moment to exchange a few minor suggestions with Javey and give his shoulder a reassuring squeeze. "We'll get there Jay."
He tiredly raised one eyebrow at her "If you say so Ti. I'm not sure I know anymore." He sighed and leaned on his console. "Thanks."
She knew she'd be back in the lab directly she got back, as she lined up to be transported back to the Enzio she remembered that she hadn't examined that scan yet.
Back on the Enzio Tiana made it back to the main lab, her team were all ready analysing sensor data and poring over reports from the closest relay stations. No doubt other reports would be arriving by the minute.
Tiana's comm badge bleeped =/\=Commander Cet, can we have a word? It is urgent.=/\= She recognised the voice as Saryn but when she tapped her badge to respond she found that the link had been broken. =/\=Computer, where is Doctor Saryn?=/\= Tiana asked. =/\=Doctor Saryn is in main sickbay=/\= Tiana nodded to herself and picked up the PADD with the brain scan on it. With the issues with the spot she hadn't given this the time she would have on another day. She walked out of the lab heading for sickbay. She tapped her comm badge on route. =/\=Doctor Saryn, I'm on my way. be with you in two minutes.=/\=

“What can I do for you Doctor?”
Saryn looked up as the young commander approached, then beckoned for him to follow. "Commander, as I understand it, my son considers you a friend, am I correct?" he asked, as they walked away from the main sickbay area.
"Yes, he does. When he did my physical after I arrived he introduced me to a few activities that I ended up enjoying. The only thing that's kept us from spending more time together was the amount of work needed to get the ship ready for this mission."
“I see,” Saryn answered gravely, then gestured to the bed which held his son. “Something happened on Mars, and I am uncertain what. He was feeling unwell when we returned and ultimately, he collapsed. He has not regained consciousness since, that is, he has not come to full awareness. I have found an oddity in his brain scan which I have sent to the science department for closer review, however I am concerned that something may be wrong which I am not yet trained to find. Something that is beyond my expertise. Has he spoken to you about anything at all?”
"Not to me." Walters said. "We only managed to get a single game of Velocity in before I went to work upgrading the sensors, followed by a single meal the night before we reached the Sol System. This is the first time I've been able to see him since." Will looked at the Vulcan youth laying on the bed with concern. "Did something happen on Mars during the quake?"
“Possibly,” Saryn responded softly as he covered the younger man's hand with his own. He frowned as he felt it twitch underneath, then offered a squeeze of reassurance. Savin didn't move, though a frown seemed to form on his face. After a few seconds he seemed to grow restless, his breathing changing a little as he moved his head from side to side, murmuring in a language neither man understood. “I do not know what to do,” the older Vulcan whispered, seeming at the edge of despair. “I fear for his life.”
The closer the Enzio got to Jupiter, the worse the young Vulcan seemed to get. “I hope Miss Cet has news, when she returns,” he added, casting his son's friend a look of pure anxiety.
Will's brow furrowed at the sound of whatever it was Savin was saying, curious at the language. "Has he said much since Mars?"
“Negative. But he grew very quiet, to the point of where I wondered if he was even still awake or conscious. I have touched his mind, but it is almost, as if he is not there. Before he lost consciousness here in sickbay, he spoke of seeing many dead and many wounded. He saw things no-one should ever see.” Saryn hesitated. “He seemed haunted, terrified of something but either could or would not tell me. It is almost, as if he is no longer my son.” He signed. “Commander, I am...afraid.”
"How bad was it after the quake? Did he actually see dead and wounded or is he seeing things?"
“Yes, he saw what he said he saw. He said he saw a young woman get crushed during a quake, and he too had taken a fall but he came away reasonably unscathed, physically speaking. When we met up again, however, he was visibly shaken.” Saryn know what people thought about Vulcans who emoted, the odd looks they received. “You realise, because he is deaf, he relies on his other senses more than I do. His vision is sharper than mine.”
"I remember." Will looked at Savin again, thinking about what his father was telling him. "You know, I'm just shooting in the dark here, but we've been picking up all sorts of unusual and unnatural energy signatures from the Red Spot. What do you think is the possibility that something might be having an effect on him via his natural Vulcan telepathy?"
“That is possible. His ESP is higher than mine because he was forced to develop it from a very young age due to his hearing deficiency. He relies on it far more than I do. But I too am a telepath, why is it affecting him, but not me? Or any other telepath on board?”
"Maybe he's reacting because of his greater talent. It's not unusual for something to go undetectable by one sensor only to be discovered by a more sensitive one."
“Agreed.” Yet the doctor didn't seem comforted by that thought in the slightest. “I have attempted to place a neural inhibitor, but it only made him react very violently to it. I will not attempt it again as it may kill him, and I would rather not cause the demise of my own son.” He paused again, listening as the commander was summoned back to the bridge. “Would you report this to the captain? It is something he should know about.”
"I will certainly pass on the message Doctor. With some luck we'll have this figured out quickly."
“Thank you commander.” The Vulcan bowed his head slightly.

=/\=Doctor Saryn, I'm on my way. be with you in two minutes.=/\=
Saryn was still following Walters with his eyes when he was startled from his thoughts. Absently, he tapped his combadge. "Acknowledged commander," he replied slowly, as he returned to his son's bedside. "I will be in the private ward with my son ma'am. One of my nurses will point you in the right direction when you arrive."
The Vulcan stared down at his son, and wondered what kind of battle was going on in his mind. He no longer sensed the younger man, and that frightened him more than anything else. And here he lay tossing and turning, murmuring in a language that was unknown to any linguist on board. And any kind of monitor or inhibitor he tried to attach resulted in an almost epileptic fit.
Carefully, Saryn reached out, caressed his son's cheek in a rare sign of affection, then moved to apply the the restraints just in case. They were as much for the youth's safety, as for the nurses attending to him.
Anxiously, Saryn waited for the science chief to arrive, hoping she'd be the bearer of some good news.

=/\=Acknowledged commander,=/\= Saryn replied slowly. =/\=I will be in the private ward with my son ma'am. One of my nurses will point you in the right direction when you arrive.=/\=
Tiana studied the PADD as she waited for the turbolift and then continually on the way to sickbay. She understood that Dr Saryn was worried about his son. It was hard to be a parent. Tiana took a slow deep breath, that was not her perspective, she had to hold on to herself it would help no one if she lost herself in a whirl of memories again. What she was seeing now was similiar to what she had just been looking at, that was what she had to focus on.
She reached sickbay and was ushered through to the private ward. She made certain to press the door chime she didn't want to sneak up on the stressed doctor.
"Doctor Saryn." Tiana made sure she sounded positive. She transferred the brain scan to the auxillary display screen. "It appears that there is a second pattern over laying Savin's brainwaves. I don't know what the origin of the pattern is but I have found a link with the signals we hve been studying from the great red spot." She quickly called up the signal she had been staring at back in the lab. "Here," she pointed to both displays indicating a signal repeating with a timeperiod of 18.73 seconds. "I think I can rig up a way to screen out that particular signal but I suspect it's only going to get stronger as we approach Jupiter."
Tiana sighed, this was where she had to admit that she was stuck. As a scientist she knew there was nothing wrong with saying 'I don't know', only when someone's life, or worse mind, was at stake it felt like it wasn't enough. Maybe if she'd spent more time on this and less on the spot.... Then again she was sure they were connected.
"I don't know whether the planet is driving this or whether something else is driving them both." She scuffed her hand through stray tendrils of hair she felt tired and imagined she looked it.

Commander William Walters happened to be on the turbolift to Sickbay when the Enzio began its descent so he passed on the order for more SIF power to Hriss. I guess he hasn’t made it to the Bridge yet. His stay with Dr. Savin and his son didn’t last long and he was already on his way back when the first wave hit. The sudden turn and impact threw him into a bulkhead by the turbolift, but he came away with just some minor bruising.
As soon as the lift deposited him on the Bridge Walters was by Hriss’s side at the engineering console. “What’s happened?”
“Gravimetric wave. Looks like the impact knocked loose one of the forward sensors, I already sent a team.” the Caitian quickly reported. “I think we rode that one rather well.”
The displays weren’t showing any red aside from the disabled sensor, but Walters wasn’t happy. “Yeah, but we’re only a few hundred kilometers down. Not to mention that we didn’t expect gravimetric waves in atmosphere. Heck, they shouldn’t exist at all.” What is going on in this storm? he wondered.
“I’ll take over here Hriss. Head back to Engineering and start some models on a variable SIF load. If there’s a regular pattern to these waves we can save some power and hopefully not fry the emitters. And send out the damage control parties as well, I want them ready to go at a moment’s notice, and I’ll be more comfortable knowing they won’t be coming all the way from Engineering.”
“It’ll be ready by the time I get down there boss.” Hriss said, jumping out of the chair and hurrying to the turbolift.
Walters checked a few more status screens before turning to Ghes. “No structural damage Captain. We should have the sensor back in few minutes and we’re already looking into a better SIF generation.”

Scene: USS ENZIO “USS ENZIO Main Bridge “ “Matthew sat in the Ops chair as he was reading over the various Data Streaming in from the ship Scanners”.
" Cmdr Matthew Captain Sensors have just picked up some unusual readings from on the Great Red Spot."
"I'm not sure. The nebula is still distorting the majority of our readings...”
"Cmdr Matthew 'I’m trying Captain but the readings I'm getting are not conclusive enough." His fingers worked deftly over the controls as he tried one configuration after the other.
“Eventually it was Matthew that piped up with a "Got it!" Turning and looking at Captain "It's definitely a Gravimetric wave. sir, approximately 50,000 meters ahead. It's moving on an intercept course." and the size of it we can’t out run or avoid it Sir ‘
“Captain Gheskori "Shields up, take us to Yellow Alert. Helm, prepare for evasive maneuvers."
"30,000 and closing"
"Mr. Cole- "
"Cmdr Matthew Attention all Desk Standby for impact “
"18,000 meters." A pause. "2700."
He turned back around to the view screen his heart pounding. "Visual?"
"Nothing beyond what we see out the viewer. Our sensors aren't at full strength; we can't cut through the interference."
"If these are our old friends, bring us to Red Alert “James stared out the view screen at the swirling gasses of the nebula Silently James braced for the hit.

Nope... Nothing new, just one big one... Ghes thought. He glared at the viewscreen. The orange clouds were still blinding them to what lay ahead, but then the gravimetric waves were invisible anyway.
"1.4 kilometres... Intercept imminent," tactical officer Cole reported.
"Brace for impact..." Ghes murmured to himself, knowing Matthew had already made that order to the crew. They'd prepared for these graviton waves, but this was by far the largest they'd faced.
As the wave broke on its bow, the Enzio shuddered in violent silence. The saucer section screamed at the torsional stresses induced by the unseen force, just as the whole vessel was dipped into the wave by the helmsman in an attempt to avoid serious damage. The great vessel may as well have been a castle of sand, dashed in the rolling surf. And in one's mind's eye, the frame of the Prometheus class ship shrunk away, dissolving into heady oblivion...
The chemical smell of EPS coolant hissed out of the wall near Ghes. He quickly gained his senses and pulled himself to his feet, grunting in pain. He'd hurt something bad. He blinked several times in the darkness as he lowered himself into his chair, hoping the main lights would come back on, but the red emergency lighting remained - points of motionless fire.
"The wave's passed," Ensign Cole called out, coughing, "We've lost main power to several primary systems. Weapons and long range sensors... Short range remain operational," he added after a pause.
"Let's push on," Ghes croaked. He stopped himself, easing his grip on the chair armrests. It won't do to be so tense, he chided himself. "Someone analyse the frequency and placement of these waves. If there's any pattern, I'd like us to plot a course so we avoid as many as possible. Science, you should get in contact with Commander Galwyn about this. She may be able to factor it in with what she's doing."
<Tag Galwyn>
"Ah..." the helmsman piped up, speaking delicately, "We have a little bit of a problem. We're spinning. On all three axes, at about 0.5 revolutions per second."
"Well, correct."
Several disapproving blurps from the console later, the helmsman reported back. "I would if it were possible. We've lost power to lateral thrusters... One of the primary systems affected that Cole didn't mention." He looked back to glare at Ensign Cole.
"Don't worry then," Ghes shrugged, "Stabilise as best as you can and get us going in the right direction. We'll get there; we'll just do it while spinning." He looked darkly at the floor, bathed in the red light. Ridiculous way to travel...
He found what'd been causing the pain as he returned his thoughts to their objective. The uniform cloth of his left arm: it'd begun to rot and was starting to irritate his skin underneath. Ghes's eyes widened in realisation. It was the EPS coolant. "I'm going to sickbay," he said, "Get a damage control team up here and secure that coolant leak. It's a biohazard." He stood and headed for the turbolift. "Parsons you have the bridge. You and Commander Matthew are to steer the ship to the centre of the Spot. Also have our engineer work to get those systems back, and get these lights back on. I'll be back in ten minutes."
<Tag Matthew, Parsons, Walters>
Ghes marched into the darkened sickbay holding his arm. By the simple fact of knowing that he had been exposed to plasma coolant the wound had started to hurt more; when he peeled back the ruined cloth, that pain got even worse. The coolant was melting his skin.
"Doctor!!" the Captain cried out, "I need your treatment, right now!"

"Doctor!!" the Captain cried out, "I need your treatment, right now!"
Recognizing the captain's voice and hearing the agony in it, Saryn rushed fromt he private room. Without asking what was wrong, or even saying a word he took the man by the arm and marched him off to a bed. "Sit," he ordered, before turning to grab a dermal regenerator. "I am going to carefully cut away the fabric," he explained, dark eyes boring into the captain's, holding his attention. "It will hurt, but you must keep still. I cannot treat this as it is."
The Vulcan flagged over one of the tall male nurses to assist the Denobulan up on the bed. "Hold him down, but be careful about it," he instructed, before starting the painful and precarious job of removing the remants of the man's uniform from the burns on his arm. "Coolpack," he ordered, holding out his hand. A nurse gently placed the cool gel pack into his hand, which he applied to the burns to stop the burn from spreading further into the skin. He knew that, with the time it'd taken the captain to notice it, and come down to sickbay it probably already was too late anyway but it would offer some relief.
He felt the arm twitch in his grip as he worked. "Almost done captain," he spoke gently, though he didn't look up. He continued to apply the cool pack in intervals to offer relief. When finally the fabric was removed, he took a quick scan, then started to apply the germal regenetator. After a few minutes, he applied a thin film of analgesic cream, and finally a bandage. "Good as new captain," he offered, as he finally looked up. "I recommend resting your arm, hence I am going to provide you with a sling. It will make you feel unbalanced but you will be less inclined to use it. Once done, you are free to return to duty."

"I am going to carefully cut away the fabric," Saryn explained, dark eyes boring into the captain's, holding his attention. "It will hurt, but you must keep still. I cannot treat this as it is."
Ghes nodded panickedly, "Yes. Thank you, Doctor. Thank you..." He grunted in pain at the first peeling back of the melted cloth and felt his eyes starting to water. Sickbay was dark with the recent failures and thus the sight of his arm was mercifully obscured. He didn't really want to see what state it was in under the cloth. Ow. This is just typical! Why does this have to be happening now?
"Aaargh!!" Ghes arched back as he screamed, and subsequently the whole of sickbay was alerted to his rather overt state of duress. His arm was twitching mightily. He focussed intently on it, trying to keep it dead still, but the rapt concentration required made the pain even worse.
"Almost done captain," Saryn spoke gently, though he didn't look up.
"Would you please -" Hurry up? he finished in his head. He hadn't known pain like this for years. Perhaps not even since he'd joined Starfleet. Well, actually, there was that time when he'd been a junior officer on the Victory, plummeting to the surface of an alien world in a shuttlecraft and crashing into the side of a house. He and Tiana had just about survived, but he remembered being trapped under the console - the crushing weight siphoning off his life force...
The Doctor was coating the section of arm in analgesic cream, and then soon had it all bandaged up. With the obscuring of the burn came renewed focus in Gheskori's mind; he had to return to the bridge.
"I recommend resting your arm, hence I am going to provide you with a sling. It will make you feel unbalanced but you will be less inclined to use it. Once done, you are free to return to duty."
"Alright," he said, "Let's have it." He stood up and let Saryn guide him and position his arm such that it could accept the sling. "A crippled Captain on the bridge while the ship plunges through a gas giant. Great." He laughed quietly, trying to conceal his irritation.
While Saryn checked that his arm was comfortable in its slinged position, he looked over the vulcan's shoulder and saw a figure waiting there. "Ah, Doctor, Commander Galwyn is behind you."
Saryn finished and they both turned to face Tiana. "Tiana," Ghes said, "What brings you here? I trust you found out about Savin's extra brainwave pattern." He moved his arm about in the sling. After several backward and forward motions and rocking motions side-to-side, a smile had edged its way to his face. "What did you think about the brain scan?" he asked Tiana.
<Tiana>
Saryn looked at him. "Characterful," Ghes said, indicating the slinged arm and smiling. A series of slight shudders of the ship told him he needed to get back to the bridge. "Thank you, Doctor. Sorry for the fuss. Please keep me informed about Savin."

OOC: eeep, sorry, it's been a while.
When the red alert sirens went off Tiana was still in sickbay. She wasn't technically on duty but as Chief she should go to either the labs or the bridge. Then again she all ready knew she had the best people monitoring everything coming in on the bridge and a shift and half's worth of people in the labs. They knew where she was. There was nothing she could do from there that she couldn't do from here. She knew that with a red alert there would likely be injuries and there was no way she wanted to get in the medical team's way so she settled back into a corner near Savin's bed and continued to study the data she had collated.
The amount of data she had was increased several fold when Ensign Mellet linked her in to the sensor feed of the wave that had pounded the Enzio. She noted that she was only getting real-time short range sensor data, she guessed the others were damaged by what had happened.
She felt that she was close to something. She could have sworn that there was a spike in one of the line's on Savin's monitors when the wave hit the ship but at that moment she had been fighting to stay on her feet and not drop the PADD.
She knew there were injured people coming in to sickbay but she kept her head down and stayed focussed on her work. Once you got in the right mindset it was amazing what could pass you by. All the same she managed to hear the Captain's pained voice.
"Doctor!!" the Captain cried out, "I need your treatment, right now!"
That made her stomach twist. There was no way she could help him, she wasn't a doctor. Well, she was a doctor but not a medical doctor. She had to solve this. She had to...
That was it!
she carefully checked everything, no one would be able to listen to her at this moment anyway. She wanted to have all the facts at her fingertips. When she was ready she slowly approached the Captain and Saryn. It appeared that Ghes had burned his arm. He did not seem to be in pain any more, which was good.
"It appears that there is a second signal overlaying Savin's brainwaves. It is definitely linked to the great red spot. The gravimetric wave is also linked. I think that it is some form of natural or pseudo-natural phenomenon that is being amplified and focused by something and it is going to get stronger the closer we get. There is a focal point out there somewhere, haven't tracked that down yet. However, the key thing is; that wave gave me the information I need to shield us from the effects.
Tiana knew she was seaking rather quickly and probably overloading them with information, they'd probably aske her to repeat everything more slowly or at least explain herself in more detail. There were people in the lab confirming her findings but they hadn't had sight of Savin's monitors and been able to check the time delay between the wave hiting the ship and the spike in the young man's brain activity.

Commander Walters coughed as he wiped some sweat from his eyes. That last wave did a number on the ship and his board was full of cautions and warnings. Red lights showed structural damage all along the midline of the saucer. My god, if that wave was any stronger the saucer would’ve split in half. He hit the comm button. =^=Walters to Engineering, I need all available damage control teams to Sections 18-23, all decks. We’ve got hull fractures of multiple sizes all along the saucer in those areas.=^=
He worked as quickly as he could to keep up with the incoming reports. Ensign Cole’s report about the loss of main power and several systems were concerning, but easy to fix since it looked like damaged EPS conduits were to blame there. As for the stuck thrusters, that was doubly concerning. If power had been cut they shouldn’t have been firing, so that means a power-shutoff is non-functional. The first thought is to simply shut them down via a power reroute, but in an environment like the Jovian atmosphere that would be a bad idea, triply so with these gravimetric waves. Instead, he would need to identify the stuck conduit and reroute around that.
Will’s fingers flew across the console, noting in his mind the shutoff of the ruptured conduit there on the Bridge. Main power came back online a few minutes into it, something that made the search much easier. That came in handy when it turned out that it wasn’t a power issue at all. The shock from the wave damaged a data route and now the computer was thinking that the helm was holding down the rotate buttons. Luckily for them, the damaged link was right there on the Bridge.
Will grabbed a toolkit he kept at his console and pried open a panel on the back of the helm. “Lock in a course Ensign, I need to take your console offline for a minute.” Once that was set he reached in and disconnected the power flow to the helm. The last thing he needed was an electrical burn. And Sickbay was bound to be flooded. He dug through the various cables, junctions, and chips looking for the one that was broken. It turned out to be one of the older isolinear chips in a small box on the side of the panel. It took all of 5 seconds to swap out a part that took several minutes to locate. “Remind me to lodge a complaint with the designer of the computer systems when we get back.” the engineer groused as he restored power and closed the panel.

Saryn was at a loss. "I no longer know what to do," he confessed, "I have done everything I can for him. Wherever we are, and whatever may happen, there is nothing more I can do but to keep him comfortable and keep monitoring him. Miss Cet if you have anything that may help me keep him alive, that is greatly appreciated."
The older Vulcan was scared, and he wasn't loath to admit it this time either. His firstborn's life was at stake, and it seemed that thus far, the boy was losing the battle. The second pattern was becoming stronger and stronger, though on occasion Savin's own brainwave patterns spiked, as if there was a battle of wills going on. He stared at the lifeless form which was strapped securely to the biobed. While he and his nurses had been thrown about only minutes ago, those patients which were secured to their beds, had come out of it without additional harm to them.
Savin lay very still on the bed, his breathing was very shallow, such that the monitor barely registered it, but very rapid. His heartrate on the other hand was frantic and the brainwave patterns spiked. If it wasn't for the readings, one might think the young Vulcan was dead because not even a fog-test would turn up his breath, and while frantic in heartrate, a pulse was not to be felt.
Savin stared up at the bright figure looming over him, tried to fight her off but he was too weak. It was an on-going battle of wills between the two of them, for control of his body. She had invaded him back on Mars, and had slowly fought him back until at last he had physically collapsed. She kept him at bay, kept him cornered but without him, she would now cease to exist. If he died, she would die too it was that simple, so she kept him alive at the barest minimum of functions, keeping him weakened, exhausted, scared.
Wide-eyed, he stared at her, pleading with her but she showed him no mercy and struck him down hard.
On the bed, Savin winced once, then was still again, without there being any change in the readings.
"No please...you do not understand. They would help, but you need to let me go. I am no use to you in this condition, and less if I come to hate you." Hate was an emotion, but one Savin could understand even if he had never experienced it for himself. Anger flared as he surged to his feet, trying to push her away, trying to regain control of himself once more. He had felt it, when his father had tried to reach him, but she had thrown up a mental wall, putting him out of reach. He had sensed his father's fear and concern, and it matched his own.
He stood shivering before her, staring at her. "Let me help." But she struck him down again, and again. Savin knew not how long he could continue this battle, he was weakening and he needed rest. But if he backed down, his fight would be lost. He cowered as she lifted her hand once more, breathing heavily, bracing himself...
Savin screamed, his body twitching, tugging at the restraints. He moved his head from side to side, his eyes wrenched shut, blood dripping slowly from his nose. He trashed against the bonds that held him down, the real ones to him a manifestation of the ones that now held him at bay, trapped in his own mind. He fought them, tried to break them. Nurses rushed to keep him still but he managed to knock them aside. Then, he went still again, but with him, so did the monitors.
Saryn stared at them, then at Galwyn who still stood by his side. It took him a full minute to realise that the monitor had stopped it's steady beeping. Then, out of nowhere, just as the older Vulcan started to believe he had lost his son, the monitor came back to life. The rhythm was slow and erratic, but there was a heartbeat again but breath did not register. It had dropped below the measurable limit but when Saryn rested his hand on the boy's chest, he could feel it rise and fall, minutely so. Fear was etched on his face as he turned to Galwyn. "Please, find a way to save my son."

"... There is a focal point out there somewhere, haven't tracked that down yet. However, the key thing is; that wave gave me the information I need to shield us from the effects."
"I see..." On the whole, Ghes wasn't surprised at the link between the Spot and Savin's ailment, however he'd had no idea that the connection would be so clear. The correlation with the gravimetric waves was a surprise and made it something of a phenomenon, but, he supposed, as explorers of the strange and the unknown they should expect such things.
"Pass to the bridge the modifications we need to shield us from the gravimetric waves, if such a list is possible," Ghes ordered.
The doors to sickbay hissed open and a yeoman came rushing in. He pushed past some casualties that were being ushered to biobeds by nurses and came up to Ghes and Tiana. "Sir, Commander Matthew needs you back on the bridge. The XO is attending to an issue belowdeck and they're short of authority up there."
"Are they indeed?" Ghes nodded and turned back to Tiana. "Why would the gravimetric waves allow another brainwave to couple with Savin?" He realised after uttering it that it was a bold and difficult question. He wondered however, if his science officer was willing to speculate before returning to research.
<Tag Tiana Galwyn>
As Gheskori departed sickbay he espied the unconscious Savin fastened to a biobed. The vulcan lay motionless; his father watched impassively over him. Ghes's gaze hung there - his eyes narrowing as if to pierce the young man's skull and discover the nature of what ailed him - until the doors slid firmly shut.
"And where are we?" the Captain inquired. The bridge was quiet around him, things having died down slightly since they'd found a way to avoid some of the larger wavefronts.
"We're currently on our fourth circle of the Red Spot, approximately 20,000 kilometres from its centre," the helmsman reported.
"Further than we wanted."
"Yes," Commander Matthew interjected, "But the gravimetric waves are far too intense for us to go any closer. This near they pulse very strongly in all directions."
"Hmm..." Ghes pondered as he studied the viewscreen. It displayed the same miasma of blinding atmospheric material that'd reduced visibility to about a hundred kilometres. Ghes had planned for ten circles of the Spot but they were already on their fourth. Ten was the theorised safe limit before things like strength of the hull modifications and radiation protection started to become rather burning issues. "This makes finding the focal point of all this very difficult."
"Well, sir... There is my suggestion."
"The probes idea?" Ghes scratched his forehead, thinking deeply. "Ok, let's go ahead with that. Have Lieutenant Sari modify them and fire them towards the centre of the Red Spot. Prepare only three though, so that we don't take away too many of those repair teams."
<Tag James Matthew>
A list of modifications had also come through from Tiana, but Ghes wasn't sure if they were meant to protect from the radiation or from the force of the grav waves. Others would know best though; Ghes ordered for the appropriate modifications to be made to the probes. If they worked, then Tiana would be rewarded with some in-depth telemetry of conditions at the centre of the Red Spot, visual data and hopefully her focal point.
Time was becoming short. The news coming out of sickbay seemed to indicate that this was not only an effort to resolve a mystery - to restore the security of the Martian inhabitants - but also a race against time to save Savin's life.

"Why would the gravimetric waves allow another brainwave to couple with Savin?" Ghes asked. She knew he had just been summond back to the bridge so she had to keept her response short, not that she had much more than speculation to offer on the subject anyway.
"My current best theory is that the waves found a resonance with a telepathic being and that frequency has also found resonence within the telepathis centre of Savin's brain. I'm still trying to find direct evidence..." She let her words trail off indicating that although this was currently the best she had it was too vague to deserve the term hypothesis. Ghes left sickbay leaving Saryn and Tiana at Savin's bedside.
Savin screamed, his body twitching, tugging at the restraints. He moved his head from side to side, his eyes wrenched shut, blood dripping slowly from his nose. He thrashed against the bonds that held him down. Nurses rushed to keep him still but he managed to knock them aside. Then, he went still again, but with him, so did the monitors.
Tiana stood in silence, she had seen monitors flatline before. She had seen friends and colleges die, seen dozens of people whose names she had never known die, seen her parents and children die. Most of those deaths had been less clinical than this but a flatline had the same amount of finality as a shot to the head.
She swallowed hard and forcibly shook her head, those weren't her memories they were Cet's, yes, she had lost people she cared about including her brother but her parents were still alive and she had never had childen. They weren't her memories she couldn't afford to lose herself in them now she had to stay in control.
Tiana blinked and looked across to the bed, the monitors were bleeping again and Saryn had one hand pressed to his son's chest. He looked up and his eyes met hers, he was obviously terrified. "Please, find a way to save my son."
"I promise I will do absolutely everything that can be done." She wanted to say more. Kelis's second son followed his mother into the Defence Force had died in the line of duty. Merac's daughter had died young in a tragic accident. Their memories were fresh in Tiana's mind. She could have tried to say she understood what Saryn was going through, but despite Cet's memories she knew she did not understand and hoped she never did.

"That is all I need to know," Saryn responded, then rubbed his eyes. "A nurse will watch over Savin, I require rest." He hadn't taken any rest since their departure from Mars, and it was starting to show. The Vulcan actually looked exhausted, and that was quite something. "Page me when you find anything commander, regardless of whether I am asleep or not."
He spared his son a final glance, then headed back to his quarters.
Meanwhile, Savin's condition had not changed, however when everyone's attention was diverted, the young Vulcan seemed to snap free from his restraints - something which wasn't altogether without consequence to his body - and managed to sneak away from sickbay. The young Vulcan's eyes sparkled a bright blue and only those taking a close look would see that despite his condition he was actually moving quite fluently.
Engineering Savin had to go to engineering, thus he took the most direct route he knew. Rather, which she took from his memories, and forced his body to go there. She had the boy at bay now, and had control over his motor functions. She knew the boy was afraid and knew he would fight her when she allowed him to, but now was not the time. She needed him, to survive, without him this body would die, and so would she.
The doors to engineering parted and Savin walked up to the nearest individual in yellow. "Shut down the warp core," he instructed, though his voice had a feminine tone to it.
"I've not received any such orders, and shouldn't you be in sickbay?" The engineer indicated the Vulcan's sickbay gown. "You're not even an officer. Now leave, before I call security."
"We must know," Savin spoke, his voice soft and dangerous now as he advanced on the poor engineer. Slender fingers took hold of the man's face, a mind being sent forth to search for the required information. But not Savin; he was trapped within his own mind, helplessly watching as she destroyed the engineer's mind in search for what she needed. From the confines of his own mind, he watched as the body collapsed and his own was forced to move to a console.
Slender fingers danced over the console as if they were used to man it and slowly the warpcore started to go dark. The Enzio would be trapped in it's path, unable to run now.

“Bridge, Lieutenant Sari here your three probes are ready to be launch, all probes have been modified."
"Very well, Lieutenant. Tactical, send the three modified probes that Sari will be indicating through your console." Ghes's expression was one of extreme seriousness but he was both pleased and thankful at the Lieutenant's quick work, for they couldn't delay much longer. Being forced to continuously circle this central region, their navigational shields were suffering and the CEO's hull modifications were fast being undone.
The probes were away but not much time had passed before something went wrong. "One of the probes has disintegrated," the tactical officer intoned.
"Confirmed," Matthew said, "One of the gravimetric waves passed through its flight path."
Ghes swivelled on a heel and looked at the bridge's rear consoles, specifically, science. It displayed a graviton topographical map of the centre region of the Great Red Spot, and showed how the combination of grav waves weren't really making linear fronts anymore, rather bewilderingly complex knots and loops, all folded into each other. Whatever was at the heart of this mass must be strange indeed, Ghes considered.
It was a circuit of the Spot later when they registered something. "We're receiving telemetry from the core region, sir. Including visual."
Ghes straightened from from his position behind the science officer's console and came back down to the bridge's front. "Onscreen."
A split image of real-time visual data being collected by both probes appeared on the viewscreen. One of the video feeds blacked out almost instantly, replaced by streaming white lines of machine code.
Ghes knew the tactical officer was frowning. "The probe's still fully functional, sir. It's just stopped transmitting for some reason."
"Tiana, this is the Captain," Ghes had tapped his commbadge, "You have your data now. Or rather what we have of it so far."
<Tag Galwyn>
There was a small black object at the centre of the remaining probe's transmitted image. Hazy clouds of orange Jupiter-matter whipped around it; Gheskori got the impression of huge energies and velocities. He stepped closer to the viewscreen; the black nimbus seemed to be growing and shrinking indeterminately. Tiny sparks of milky light glittered around it, barely visible but with an odd luminescence. "Magnify the probe's image."
The bridge lights flickered once, as if the ship was initiating a power down. The comforting background hum quickly resumed however, as if the ship was trying to act as if nothing had happened while it'd actually made an embarrassing stumble.
"We've got a massive power drain on our hands. Trying to track it..." Gheskori had turned and stood blinking against the backdrop of the viewscreen. This wasn't what they needed right now. Right at this most curious moment of discovery, just prior to when they needed to make an escape, too. "Something's happening with the warp core. We're losing main power."
"Find out what's causing this. Bridge to Engineering. Commander Walters, report?"

Down in Engineering, Hriss was on one of the upper levels tending to some of the EPS ruptures the last shockwave had caused. Teams had patched up the conduits in question and he was just about to route plasma through them when the warp core started to dim. That already caught his attention so he was slow to respond when a cry of alarm sounded from below.
The Caitian looked down just in time to see an Andorian engineer drop to the deck with a Vulcan clamped onto her shoulder from behind. Others were reacting to the sudden surprise attack but it was clear that no one was going to approach the teenager. Hriss ducked to the ladder, doing his best to keep out of sight. Tapping his commbadge, =^=Security to Main Engineering. Commander Walters, we need you down here as well.=^=
Hriss nimbly climbed down a ladder and slinked his way around to where Savin was. Luckily for him the console he was hovering around was in the hallway leading from the main entrance to the open area around the core. Even better, security arrived as he took up position by the intersection. The Vulcan youth turned around to confront the guards who seemed more content to keep him at bay with drawn phasers. That’ll never work. the Caitian thought, his body already full of adrenaline. Crouching on the balls of his feet, the feline pounced from behind catching the boy in a full fledged flying tackle. Savin went down with a decidedly non-Vulcan cry of shock and pain, an audible crack coming from his arm as he and his attacker hit the deck hard.
Commander Walters raced into Main Engineering as the guards were pulling Savin from the deck, Hriss standing close by in case the boy tried something security couldn’t handle. “What the hell happened?”
Hriss hissed. “The boy seized control of the warp core, shutting it down. He killed Gran there and knocked out Talas.”
Walters cursed, glancing at the core’s status display. It was cold already, fusion backups already powering key systems. But that wasn’t enough. He turned to Savin with a fury no one had seen before. “Why the hell would you do...” The human cut himself short and looked shocked when he saw the boy’s face. “What’s wrong with your eyes?” He knew the Vulcan’s eyes were normally a deep brown, not the sparkly blue they were now. Will recovered and nodded towards the guards. “Get the doc down here. Make sure its him, not an assistant.” One started to protest but he was already at the core controls.
“Hriss, unless they’re working on the hull get everyone busy patching every power source on the ship into the SIF. Pull power cells out of phasers, tricorders, everything.”
That caught the Caitian by surprise. “What? Why?” Normally he wouldn’t question an order but this was an unusual one.
“Because I rerouted warp power to structural integrity. It was the only way to get enough of a boost. It’ll take at least half an hour to get the core back online!”
Hriss glanced around nervously. “How long do we have?”
The hull groaned, a long, deep sound that seemed to drop the temperature by about 10 degrees. “Not enough.” was all Will could say, overriding a required magnetic constrictor alignment check.
"Find out what's causing this. Bridge to Engineering. Commander Walters, report?"
=^=Savin slipped into Engineering, attacked two people, and shut down the warp core. If I can’t get it online in 15 minutes the structural integrity field will fail and we’ll crush like an egg. No time to talk Captain, Walters out.=^=
