Personal details: Being born into a career Starfleet family, Matt knew from the beginning that he would one day command a Federation starship. If everything went as planned he would one day relieve his mother Captain Andrea Reynolds of command of the USS Hood.
Matt’s formatives years taught him many things. The first six years of his life were spent in the far reaches of the Beta Quadrant due to the Hood’s deep space mission. During those years Matt wanted nothing more than have fun and have fun he did. With his two other brothers, Matt raised hell all over the ship. It wasn’t until his mother ordered the crew to report all Reynolds’ children to her immediately. While his fun reckless days were now over, Matt focused on his studies and martial arts.
Returning back to Federation space was bitter sweet for Matt two weeks after returning to Earth his older brother Jason left for the Academy. While he missed his oldest brother, Matt became fiercely close to his second brother Kyle. When Kyle left for the Academy, Matt barely knew what to do with himself but in the end he managed.
The Dominion War changed everything for Matt. Not willing to let her youngest child stay onboard, Matt was left on Earth while the Hood served on the front lines. A week after being left on Earth, Matt was informed that during a training exercise on Vulcan his beloved brother Kyle had been killed in a freak accident. The next two years were a blur as Matt entered a severe depression. The prospect of entering Starfleet was not enough to break Matt’s depression. It wasn’t until his mother forced Matt into a martial arts retreat, that Matt realized that the only way to honor his brother was to do what he had died doing.
The Academy did wonders for Matt both professionally and personally. Matt strengthened friendships that he considered lost and before he knew it, the pain of losing his brother wasn’t the first thing he woke up to in the morning. After three years, Matt transferred from the San Francisco Academy Campus to the Section 47 Academy ship, USS Hanson.
While the mission didn’t turn out as planned, Matt completed his Academy training with honors. Matt’s first assignment was in his opinion the envy of all his classmates, the USS Jefferson under the command of Rear Admiral Loskene. Under his command Matt thrived and found his responsibilities grow beyond his role of Operations Chief.
During his first stint on the Jefferson, the crew came across the newly named Loskene Cloud, which jumped to different points in space throughout the galaxy. It was there that Matt came across the Oceanus crew and his future son, Caleb Linden. A devious but loving child, Caleb saved Matt’s life caring for him after the Shuttle Promise crashed landed on a planet located inside the cloud. Having lost his entire family do to the ongoing conflicts on the planet, Caleb was alone and Matt knew there was no way he was going to let him grow up that way. With his permission, Matt officially adopted Caleb and rescued as many as the Jefferson would hold.
The first three years on the Jefferson were wonderful and Starfleet Command soon took notice. Admiral MC7of9 offered Matthew the position of first officer of the USS Raven to Matt while he took a sabbatical. Matt was torn, but in the end he took the job and his first command posting was on the USS Raven under the command of Rear Admiral Steven Smith. During his first mission on the Raven, Matt was severely injured when a terrorist ignited a torpedo inside the ship. Even injured Matt was able to help in the rescue of Admiral MC7of9 who had been kidnapped by terrorist.
With the rescue of MC7of9, there was no longer any need for a rookie executive officer. Luckily for Matt, the Jefferson was in need of one and Matt soon rejoined his ship which shortly thereafter fell under the new leadership of Colonel Zhukarak Hrisvalar. His first encounter with his new commanding officer did not go well as he was demoted for striking the Romulan Diplomatic attaché, Tedak. It took time, but once Matt repaired his relationship with Zhukarak, the Jefferson was back to being the flagship of Section 47.
Two years passed and the Romulan threat that caused Loskene to be transferred did the same thing to Zhukarak. With the recommendation of Zhukarak and Section Admiral Paul Drew Matt was promoted to Captain of the USS Jefferson. The first year of Matt’s command was great, but the stress of command and other now classified events took its toll. Matt was stripped of his command and he believed his life as a Starfleet Officer was now over. With his old friends and mentors backing him, Matt was stationed on Starbase 47 as the chief of operations.
