Carl had appreciated the time his friend and Executive Officer had taken to dock the Raven. It had allowed him some precious time with Bethan and Vanessa. But his free time was cut short by a request to report to the Head of Star Fleet Security ... ooo000ooo "Well .... That is one hell of a story Commodore." Admiral Tetsutarô said, getting up and refreshing both their drinks, "You do know that the Raven was only twenty one minutes out when we realized she was at a dead stop." 'Twenty one minutes' Carl thought as he took the refilled glass. He couldn't even begin to figure why 'Q' had chosen that figure, and frankly, he was past caring. In all honesty, he wanted some time with the children before their next outing, and was hoping Sato wasn't about to drop a departure time in his lap. The information acquired by Lieutenant Watson and Commander Valenti was now in the appropriate hands, and they would study it for some years to come Tetsutarô thought. He also informed Carl that with his approval, he was leaving Valenti on the Raven, at least for the next mission. It will give her valuable eexperiencehe said. Carl said he had no objections. "Well there is nothing pressing for the Raven at the moment." Sato said, after two hours in the meeting, "She's undergoing a little exterior refurbishment given the fact she re-appeared looking like she had been in a serious fight. There is one or two system upgrades that will be done while we have you too, so feel free to allow your crew full shore-leave privileges Carl." he finished, standing up. Torek followed suit, knowing the meeting was over. Sato shook his hand making him promise to bring the children to visit for dinner at his home the following evening. Carl readily agreed and took his leave ... ~~~~~~~~~~Returning to the ship, he was greeted by Calli ... "Well I suppose I'll be leaving Commodore. It's been a priv" she began, but Carl interrupted. "You have somewhere to be Commander ?"Torek asked, a grin forming, Calli hesitated, "Admiral Tetsutarô seems to think another mission with us would benefit your experiance of an active duty Command role .... Thats if you would like to remain aboard ?" he finished, raising his eyebrows. "Yes Sir ... I'll take my gear back to my quarters then Sir, Thank you." He watched her go then tapped his Comm badge ... =^= Torek to Commander Jamison =^= =^= Jamison Sir =^= =^= We're here for a few days Will .. Allow all but essential crew go ashore .. Rotate the remainder you know the drill .. You should get a set of upgrades that tech' support will be doing .. Engineering and Tactical mainly so farm them out .. Oh we're getting a face lift for the hull too =^= =^= I'll see to the leave Sir .. Will you be going over to the base ? =^= =^= Dinner with the Admiral tomorrow .. But rest is on my list .. And some time with the children .. Let me know if there's any problems Will =^= =^= Aye Sir .. Jamison out =^= The Comm closed and Carl headed for his quarters .......... OK everyone ... Please feel free to post here We'll be at Star Base Forty Seven for a few days Then we'll look at beginning our next outing
I'm sure you will make our new crew-members welcome
Any questions & you know who to ask lol

Earlier:As the Captain had left the Bridge, Will sat in the Command seat. Calli sat beside him and watched as the Raven began her slow approach to the Star base. Truth be known, she was a little sad at the prospect of leaving the ship. She loved her role at Star fleet Command of course, but it was rare to get the 'practical' exexperience of life on a Star ship in her job. The Galaxy Class vessel glided through the outer doors and edged toward the glass fronted observation deck that ran parallel and across the full length of her assigned dock. Calli could almost imagine anyone simply stepping through the screen onto the Bridge, they looked so close. "Have you received your next assignment yet Commander ?" Will said as he allowed the Helm Officer to complete the docking procedure. "No ..... No I haven't. I'm sure Admiral Tetsutarô has lined up." she replied with a half shrug. "Never considered this side of the job ?" "Oh I'd have this particular seat off you in a Jovian gnats heart beat Commander." she said, making both of them laugh. "Sir, docking completed, umbilicals moving into place. Dock-master requests we shut down the warp core and go on external power." the Helm Officer said. Will looked at Calli, nodding for her to complete the procedure. She tapped the Comm link ... =^= Bridge to engineering =^= =^= Blakus .. Bridge =^= =^= Commander .. You can shut down the core and transfer power to external ties when ready =^= =^= Stand by =^= "It's been a pleasure having you aboard Commander." Will said "For me too Commander ... We'll have a drink on it I hope before you go out again." =^= Warp core going off-line now .. Engineering out =^= A few seconds later the was an almost imperceptible change as the Raven's warp core went off-line, and the ship began feeding power from the base. She was informed that the umbilicus and walk-ways were locked in place and the ship was on external power. She nodded and got up. There was no need for goodbye's. With one last look around the Bridge she entered the turbo-lift. ...... The Raven was home ...... ~~~~~~~~~~Now:As she walked down the white corridor to the Star base, Commodore Torek was entering. "Well I suppose I'll be leaving Commodore. It's been a priv" she began, but Carl interrupted. "You have somewhere to be Commander ?" Torek asked, a grin forming, Calli hesitated, "Admiral Tetsutarô seems to think another mission with us would benefit your experiance of an active duty Command role .... That's if you would like to remain aboard ?" he finished, raising his eyebrows. "Yes Sir ... I'll take my gear back to my quarters then Sir, Thank you." Calli did an about face and headed back to her former quarters. She met Chloe, Vanessa, and Bethan, obviously in some sort of hurry, Bethan chatting incessantly. She excitedly told Calli that 'she' had managed to 'persuade' the Exec' to allow them use of a holo-deck. Calli laughed, it didn't surprise her, Bethan could flutter those seven year old angelic eyes and get whatever she wanted. They asked her to come as they were playing 'Alice in Wonderland' and she will love the white rabbit ... She didn't need much persuading, happy she was staying on the ship, she allowed Bethan to grab her hand and drag her along the corridor ... She was actually looking forward to the distraction now ..........

Will hated shore leave. He had much rather be out in space actually doing something. Since they were stuck here for minor repairs, the made the most of his time. After seeing that everyone that was allowed to go on leave was off the Raven, he found himself sitting on the bridge, over seeing the repairs and reading the personnel files of the new crew that they were taking on. He also found his mind wondering to Calli. He had gotten use to having her around and was wondering if the Commodore could find away to keep her aboard. He went back to reading the files on the new crew members.
<Anyone feel free to jump in. New crew can come aboard to get a "feel" for the ship if they wish. I will be aboard to post.>

Andae left engineering for what would hopefully be the last time before the start of the next mission. He'd already been called back there twice, and was trusting that everything was finally in order, or that Bataoz and Milyanov were able to handle anything that arose before they too began their shore leave.
The engineer ran by his quarters first, annoyed that he'd forgot to collect everything he needed for the Starbase. He took the opportunity to have a sonic shower and also check his personal console, and then thought of how good things always came from those that were perceived to bad.
To his surprise, there was a personal message waiting for him on his console. The Federation emblem flashed up before being replaced by two familiar figures. They were members of his close family: his mother and uncle, back on Earth, in Italy. "Andae, I hope this message finds you well..."
Of course, he knew, it was August the twenty first, and yesterday was his cousin Dacian's birthday. He'd turned 26. Andae's uncle told him how his son had flipped when his duties with the Earth Civil Defence Corps had kept him from his typical heady celebrations. Well, that was Dacian, Andae sighed.
After listening to the rest of the message - approximately ten minutes worth - he donned civilian clothing and made his way off the USS Raven. The vestibule beckoned on the left, looming nearer outside the passageway windows. He walked with his hands free, no luggage, and cursed himself once more for forgetting his belongings.
"Hey, slippery fish, you aren't getting away that easily again."
Andae turned, startled, not sure if the call was actually meant for him until he saw its originator. "Well, Lieutenant Bligh," he said, a smile fast developing, "What the hell are you doing here?"
Bligh - an old Victory crewmate - ran up, hand extended before him and something of a stupid grin on his face. Andae put forth his hand to take the proferred shake but Bligh unexpectedly slapped the Commander's open palm in an old 'high five' gesture. "Refit crew!" he announced, "I've been reassigned from the Enzio, nothing felt quite right on that ship with all the old Vic crew..."
"Ahh... Well," Blakus said, and was somewhat lost for words. His old colleague and good friend seemed to be in an extremely bouncy mood. Behind Bligh came another person; Blakus was definitively shocked to see Ben Zielinski.
Almost gasping, he thought he better speak before he choked. "Ben.. I haven't seen you in years.. why are you hanging with this vagabond?" The engineer indicated the beaming Lieutenant Bligh and gave his friend an inquisitive leer. Zielinski returned it in the typical fashion that Blakus knew so well: a wry glance of a look barely masking a bizarre humour and deep mischief.
After a few short seconds both men broke the look and let loose bursts of laughter, embracing briefly. "Not here, please," Bligh complained, feigning wanting to be elsewhere. Despite the joke, Andae noticed that the three of them were making something of a scene in the corridor.
"Look," he said, "It's probably best if we catch up on the station. Join me?"
Both men nodded - Zielinski in his civilian clothes and Bligh in his Starfleet uniform - and started ushering Andae towards the vestibule down the corridor.

(note: this will start just before the beginning of the last mission where the Raven was transported by Q)
Aeryn, with her few belongings in tow, walked briskly down the unusually long corridor that led to the Raven. While she wasn't by any means afraid of using the transporters, she felt better about making the effort herself. But even that thought didn't break her annoyance. She was being transferred, yet again, to some starship whose mission was one of "exploration." ~I'd just as soon they admit they want power and let me do my job.~ She scoffed as she saw the hatch leading to the Raven interior. Aeryn stopped, shaking her head, turned and looked out the viewport at the nearby star. She had nothing against serving on a starship, though she found that Starfleet Captains seemed to be a little too....moody. They get emotional when the going gets tough and time and again, she saw captains cower under pressure and someone else would have to step it up and do their duty. She only hoped this captain would be better.
As she entered the hatch, Aeryn noticed no one was their to greet her. ~Typical, they always use the transporters...~ She went to the nearest panel and order the computer to display the command staff. Looking at the top result, she said, "Computer, where is Commodore Carl Torek?"
The computer replied in its usual monotonous voice. "Voice print not recognized."
Aeryn waved her arms in the air. "Seriously?" she said loudly. "Major Aeryn Tavik, authorization beta gamma five. Who the hell is in command?"
"Commander Will Jamison is the senior officer on the USS Raven."
"Oh thank you," she said sarcasticly.
--------------------------------
Having located the Commander, she signaled her presence, waiting to put her stuff down and get to know her new ship. Upon being given clearance to enter, she put her belongings down and stood at attention, saluting.
"Major Aeryn Tavik, reporting for duty, sir!"

While at Starbase fourty seven, Apollo had many ideas going through his mind. One of them was about the Federation Starship Raven. He had received orders from Starfleet about his career as the operations officer. This job was familiar to him as he had training from the academy previous to entering the starbase. This was also going to be very fun as meeting new people along the way and understanding the modes of command and procedure was the forefront as well as respect and due diligence would play there part with the daily workings. Apollo had to have to head focused on his career most importantly as enterting the starship would undergo many stresses but also enable him to pursue different skills as well as learn about the crew and gain understanding of his profession.
Walking along the passageways Apollo took a glance over his PaDD as he continued to view the information about his assignment. He also made some corrections to his uniform while stationed aboard the starbase. In regular civilian clothing, Apollo found a nice spot to sit and rehearse some information before grabbing a bite to eat at the galley. Watching other people make there way into through the sliding doors, he nodded to them then took a notice at the food being retrieved from the food units. Walking up to one of them, he responded “Cheesesteak, coke and a fresh serving of apples please.” as he watched the food dispenser materialize the food, Apollo could smell the aroma of the cheesesteak, taking a moment to breath the warm meat that sat on the breading he couldn’t wait any longer, taking a quick bite before sitting down again, the moisture of the food upon contact through ingestion was a great feeling.
He could eat this dish again if he wanted as the taste was one of his favorites, but until another time it was better to stay with healthier food options. Staying at the desk and looking out the view port the stars stayed in one spot while giving a quiet feeling around him. Pressing the PaDD, he browsed the information intently before getting a ring on his communicator. “Ensign Apollo, USS Raven has docked with Starbase fourty seven. You are cleared for entry aboard the Raven, please bring your orders with you and come along with uniform on once you arrive.” The communicator chimed then dissipated after Apollo touched it after review. One last bite of the cheese steak and looking through the PaDD, Apollo made his way out from the galley to his crew quarters to change into Starfleet uniform.
Traveling through the starbase might have seen long and tedious, but the walk was good for both exercise and understanding the area. Apollo could make out panels and turbo lift stations as well as crew from the raven and other Starfleet vessels. Entering one of the turbo lifts, Apollo looked around then touched the panel, watching the light sensors follow as he proceeded down several decks to his quarters. The turbo lift arrived moments later given the doors hadn’t opened to quickly, leaving Apollo room to breath and walk out and see the deck area. After enterting his own quarters, Apollo grabbed his clothing and bags with new uniform outfitted and worn then made his way to the nearest docking bay entrance. From his crew quarters to the USS Raven, the travel there was just as much distance from when he left the galley.
Arriving aboard the USS Raven, handing his PaDD to the Ships Crew Chief, the officer reviewed the information and saluted Ensign Apollo. “Welcome Aboard Ensign, if you would be so kind to leave your bags with the crewmen here, I will request staff personnel for a meeting with you shortly. Until then please make yourself to your quarters designated here, as well as the ship map.” The crew chief nodded and gave wave to Apollo. Nodding back, he walked through the USS Raven to his personnel quarters to make the arrangements for both a meeting and have his room straightened out.

Carl had spent two days with Bethan and Vanessa, and frankly, was in serious need of some shore leave 'shore leave' ... They had run him up and down the massive Star base. But now Chloe had decided that they needed to get back into the daily routine, and that, rather fortuitously for Carl, meant school. But that would be for tomorrow. Today it was early evening and the girls both needed a good bath, something to eat, and some well needed rest.
Not him, he quipped, thankfully not out loud, as he was aching from head to foot.
Saying he would see them in the morning, he decided to take a walk onto the base rather than hanging around the ship. A drink was in order he decided, besides, he wasn't needed anyway as the upgrades and hull repairs were well ahead of schedule ... He was heading toward one of the walkways that would take him off the ship when he noticed a young man.
While Carl prided himself on knowing a good percentage of the one thousand plus personnel on the Raven, he never kidded himself he could name them all, and this one was a new arrival. That much was for sure.
"Can I help you Ensign ?" he asked the man who was looking from the PADD to the bulkhead and back in seeming bewilderment.
"No ...... I'm fine thank you." the man replied, one of those 'Seen the face before' moments happening before he realized who was speaking to him.
"First time on a Galaxy Class Star Ship eh." Carl continued making light conversation, "I wouldn't be reliant on the schematics from the base, the Galaxy Mark Three is a little different. Touch the panel on the bulkhead and ask a question. The ships' computer will guide you better than that thing ... Newly assigned Ensign ?" he asked.
"Chief Operations Officer reporting Sir ... Apollo Marxes ... I'm sorry Commodore, I didn't recogn ....."
Carl looked down, realizing he was still in the civvies he'd donned to go to the fair earlier that day and laughed, then had to stop the man snapping to attention.
"Erm, no, day off, and not to worry, you'll be sent for by my Exec at some point i'm sure. Relax Ensign, we're not at the Academy now, so no Commander Trek to yell at you ... I've actually been on the fair." he said, watching Marxes visibly relax, or at least start to breathe again, "Then we went to the beech, or rather a holo-suite version that is ... Anyway, I'm off to get a night-cap at O'Tooles ... Use the comp' for directions until you get to know the place. I'm sure Commander Jamison will arrange a meeting with you at some point. You should try O'Tooles when you get chance too, great place. OK, Welcome aboard Ensign, I'll look forward to meeting you 'Officially', but for now ...."
"Thank you Sir." Marxes said, watching his Commanding Officer depart the ship.
Carl grinned ... 'Hell another newbie' he thought, but was convinced from his sixty second encounter that his new Operations Manager would fit in nicely ..... He just hoped the other new Senior Staff were as amiable. But he didn't have time to ponder the foibles of new staff, he had a Cognac on the bar with his name on it ..........

With Bligh out across the promenade somewhere, it left some time for Andae and his old friend to reminisce. However, as they both knew, there was something slightly strange in talking about the past - retreading ground that had been treaded too often.
"So what was it you did after Arloff?" Andae asked.
Ben looked wistful. "I don't think I can tell you that part, Andae." Both sat back, light chuckles escaping their throats. They were sitting at a table under an awning, outside one of the many cafe establishments on the Starbase 47 promenade.
"Last I read of you you were going to Draken. I hope Ambassador Civelik didn't threaten your envoy status in anyway." Andae grasped for the coffee mug at his side; one look at the liquid however, convinced him that he didn't want to drink it. He leant forward, almost glaring around the busy promenade.
"You know I can't say anything," Zielinski replied, and frowned, "Is it a stomach ache?"
"No," he shook his head. "Just looking for something."
Zielinski elected not to reply. He knew - they both knew - that Andae didn't really know what he was looking at. It was just something he did from time to time, a mind often preoccupied with something other than what one would ordinarily, primarily be focussed on.
"Well," Zielinski said delicately, "I thought I'd take this chance to track you down again, just like you did to me those years ago on Assailant."
"Yes, and you still haven't told me why you're in this neck of the woods." Blakus placed his coffee mug on the table, just as Bligh walked up behind to rejoin them. Patting them on their shoulders, he took the third seat.
"Commander Johnson is being most uncooperative," he reported matter-of-factly, and sipped at his own cold coffee.
The three of them were trying to procure a shuttle craft to take on a little venture away from the Starbase, their eyes on a nearby gas cloud. However, acquiring use of the craft was apparently not the simple procedure it'd masqueraded as when they'd first conceived of the idea, and in retrospect this was obvious. Despite Starfleet's accommodating nature, one did not - or three did not, for that matter - simply enlist use of a shuttle craft for recreational purposes.
Disappointment rippled amongst the trio, layering itself like a thick smog; eyes dropped slightly to their mugs. "We'll have another word with him, perhaps. In the mean time, I'm in the mood for something stronger." Zielinski had spoken, raising his eyes.
The three got up instantly, directing themselves towards the Irish bar O'Toole's. "Ben, you always were the smart one," Andae beamed philosophically.
As they entered Andae was immediately hit once again with the novelty of the bar, and he found himself slightly amused. But he needed to remind himself that many people liked this pub and took it quite seriously. Besides, he had been wanting to retry that old Irish dry stout beverage whose name he couldn't recall.
Heading to the bar, Andae rapidly located the man who he assumed was Mr. O'Toole, busy behind his taps and attending to a myriad of diverse clients.
"Commander Johnson's aide, who was rather short with me, at seven o'clock," Bligh muttered in his ear. Andae glanced around and managed a shrug of the shoulders.
"Hello," Zielinski got the attention of the barkeeper, sharing a nod, "A pint of your usual please, Guinness is it called, by branding convention of the old economy?"
"Oh, shut up," Bligh berated, and nodded to Mr. O'Toole, offering an apologetic shrug. "Three please."

"I'm sorry."
"I'm not interested."
I'm sorry!"
"Save your breath!"
It felt like the thousandth time Alex had had this conversation with Jenny. They were in his quarters, at his table, and the scene would have seemed quite ordinary were it not for the cuffs on the young lady's wrists and the security guard with an armed phaser standing by the door. Alex had pleaded in vain that the cuffs were not necessary, but Security had overridden him. Jenny sat across the table, looking straight into Alex's eyes with a stare that could have frozen the heart of a star.
"Please, listen to me Jenny. I did what I had to do to save you. To keep you alive."
"How's that, Alex?" She spat the name out, having recently learned it as his real one, clearly losing her ability to stay silent at such a blatant grasp for favour. "You saved me by abducting and imprisoning me?"
"I grant that...when you put it like that...it seems....well, not good, but..." Alex stuttered out.
"Save it. Why don't you just kill me and be done with it?"
Alex finally snapped inside. He'd had enough of trying to be Mister Nice Guy asking for her forgiveness.
"BECAUSE I SAVED YOUR BLOODY LIFE!" He shouted, standing up and smashing his fist into the table so hard that the glass of water in front of him spilled. "IF IT WEREN'T FOR ME YOU'D BE FLOATING AROUND IN A MILLION TINY PIECES BACK IN THE WRECKAGE OF THAT GODDAMNED STATION!"
She paled slightly, her icy stare faltering. She seemed genuinely shocked and surprised by this sudden outburst, and Alex realised in that split second that this might be his only chance to turn the tide of the conversation.
"Listen to me," he said gently, as he sat back down, his voice back to its normal level, but more assertive than before, "If I'd told you everything...about me, about the Raven, would you have helped me? Would you have even BELIEVED me?"
She shook her head, and Alex noticed that she was looking into her lap. She seemed close to tears.
"And then you'd be dead. And so would I. And so would everyone else. And please don't think I'm exaggerating when I say everyone else. You're a hero, what you did took courage, and determination, and..." his voice trailed off, unable to think of a third quality.
"I just...I thought you...cared."
"I did, and I do. Why do you think I brought you with me? If I didn't care about you I'd have left you to be blown up on Sanctuary."
At this, she finally started to cry. Thick, heavy tears streamed down her cheeks, and while she made an effort to avoid making noise, it was impossible to drown the muted sobs coming from her chest. At this point, Alex felt slightly out of his depth. They'd never once covered how to comfort a crying woman in Officer Training, and this was the first time he'd ever had to do it. Ransacking his brains for the correct protocol, Jenny saved him by speaking.
"All my friends...all my work...my whole life...just gone!" She whimpered between sobs.
"I know..." Said Alex. It was the only thing he could think of to say. He'd thought that her rage with him might have more to do with the severe trauma of losing everything she'd ever known than with his percieved betrayal of her trust, but he'd begun to doubt that assessment after three hours of silence and icy stares. It was pleasing to be shown that this was, in fact, probably the case.
"And now...you're going to....lock me up!"
"No I'm not, Jenny." Alex reassured her. "This is only temporary. When the Raven leaves on its next mission, maybe even before, you'll be free to go. I reckon Command is going to need some help deciphering that data we recovered, eh?" She looked up at last, a weak smile forming on her face.
"You'd really let me go? You mean...I could continue my work, here?"
"Yes. Or..."
"Or what?" she asked, tilting her head.
"I spoke to the Commodore about this briefly after we landed, and he gave it his approval. You'll be free to do as you please but, if you want it, there's a place here for you as my Assistant Chief. You'd be working as a civilian obviously, but there's no reason you couldn't eventually take Officer Training with the Commodore's recommendation."
"You really mean that? I could stay here with you, with the ship and the crew?"
"I really mean it. I need a good assis..." Alex stopped, reconsidering his words. "I mean...I want YOU as my Number Two. You're a better scientist than the rest of my department put together. And...well, because I do care."
She smiled, the first true smile he'd seen on her face since before he'd been beamed back on board the Raven for the first time at Sanctuary.
"I'd like that..." she said softly.

Will had left a junior officer in charge of the bridge and was currently physically doing a ship wide, departmental readiness check. He had started with the Security Department, where Delik had had everything under control. After a few other areas, he was now walking into sickbay to see how things were there. As was procedure, he was quickly addressed by a nurse.

He had been at O'Tooles for about an hour, but was only on his second drink. Carl wasn't one for knocking back alcohol like it was going out of business, and given that Sean, O'Tooles owner, put so much effort into getting him the genuine forty percent proof article shipped in from Earth, the last thing he wanted to do was down the liquid in one go. Sean came over to his table ... "Another one Carl ?" "Yes, why not ... Then I need to get back to the ship." O'Toole went to get him a refill and Carl waited patiently, looking at the people in the bar, which at this late hour was still pretty well full ... He noticed his Engineer, he was with two other people who he didn't know. But given the interaction between the three, Carl decided the men must be a long time friends. He thanked Sean as the owner put down a glass. "Get those three a drink on my tab please Sean." he said, pointing out Blakus and his friend. "Will do." the establishment owner said before heading back to the bar. A few moments later Andae leaned back away from the bar and raised a large glass of black liquid. Carl returned the toast then stood and approached the three men. Andae made the introductions and they made small talk for a while, until Commander Johnson mentioned their now defunct plans ... "And there's nothing available ?" Carl asked, thinking. "No ... It was just a thought anyway." Johnson said. "There's the Piper ......" Carl said, watching Andae and the two men look puzzled, "The Raven's shuttles are undergoing system upgrades, but if I'm right the Ambulance Shuttle isn't due for any work. It's sitting there gathering dust." Carl shrugged. "You can clear that with base Operations ?" Andae said. "No problem ......" Carl replied, finishing off his drink and refusing a refill, "I think it could do with a bit of a run actually. You never know when we might need it, and it would certainly be remiss of my Engineer should the thing not start when needed ... I'll make sue our Duty Opps Officer is aware you'll be making some checks and need to exit the base ... Enjoy the trip. Goodnight Gentlemen." "Night Commodore." the three answered as Carl waved to Sean then headed back to the ship .......... *** Feel free to use the Piper Andae if you have something in mind

"Thank you, sir," Andae said, slightly surprised at the Commodore's presence, and very grateful that he was willing to pull the strings to give Andae and his friends a way off the base for a while.
He watched Carl leave, presumably making his way back to the ship, and turned to Zielinski and Bligh. Ben was just finishing his second pint and calling Sean O'Toole over to request a third.
Bligh snorted in amusement and looked back to Andae, "Isn't it good to have a commanding officer with rank over most ship captains? It must be great for favours like this."
Well, Andae thought. He shrugged as it was obvious, "Yes." He knocked back the rest of his own pint; thankfully only a quarter of the liquid had remained, else his show of machismo would've been more costly. "I've never boarded the Raven's ambulance shuttle, I'm curious to see what it's like."
"We can only hope the engines work," Bligh winked.
Andae just nodded, refusing to be baited. He had to admit that he was looking forward to putting the Pipers' drive through its paces. It'd been too long since he'd done any real engineering work on something so small. And besides, running the engine room of a full starship - especially one as large as the Raven - wasn't always the intricate engineering task it'd seemed; most of the complex system maintenance was automatic, and large portions of the CEO work was delegation. It was going to be good to work hands-on, tinkering here and there with a small engine of uncertain condition. Or perhaps he was over-romanticising.
They found their way to the Raven, making their way quickly to the secondary shuttle bay. Andae hadn't envisaged being back on the ship so soon, but in a way he was pleased to see it. Something in him didn't like to leave the ship and not know its status for too long.
As they neared the bay, Andae saw the flash of green of a marine uniform, and he was most surprised when Aeryn Tavik rounded the corner. "Well, Major, I didn't know you'd been assigned back to the ship." He introduced Bligh and Zielinski, "We've managed to commandeer a shuttle. If you aren't otherwise occupied, perhaps you'd like to join us?"
Bligh shot Andae a glance, probably, the engineer thought, wondering what the hell he was doing. It wouldn't do to have the 'new' crewmember left out.
<Tag Aeryn Tavik>
The Piper sat in a virtually disused corner of the bay, cast in the shadow of the overhanging gantry above. He was of better sense, but Andae was almost expecting to find dust and cobwebs surrounding the ship. Of course, the periodic depressurisation of the bay would cleanse the place of any extraneous particles.
He and Zielinski approached the shuttle. "She looks good," Ben said, "Noble." He indicated the red cross on the side of the shuttle's hull.
"The brainchild of an old CMO, I think," the Raven's chief engineer agreed. He looked Ben in the eye. "Shall we?" They entered the Piper and waited for Bligh to catch up from the LSO's office.

The gas cloud's mesmeric patterns played across their eyes as they gazed out the forward port. They were a mere two hundred kilometres from the cartographically designated edge of the gas cloud of interest, and it was so dense they couldn't espy the stars on the other side of its mass.
Bligh cleared his throat at the engineer's station. "Shall we take her in then?" he asked.
Andae squinted at his console, trying to work out the readings from the engine and rectify as necessary before his friend got impatient, "In a moment. We need to reconfigure the impulse reactors." He glanced around at Zielinski who stood behind them in the rear compartment. Andae saw him watching pensively, content to let the Starfleet officers make the necessary modifications, biding his time before he could get involved. Blakus smiled; it was almost like a mission.
"Alright, let's take this little ship in," Andae announced, his hands dancing across the helm console. He considered how strange it felt to be flying the shuttle. He had only basic shuttle flight training and was quite out of practice, but oddly it felt good to be in control of the bird.
They shot the Piper into the cloud with a ten second sustained burst of impulse thrust. Blakus and Bligh, at the front of the ship, vocally traded the data streams given to them by the onboard computer, happy to be discovering the craft's capabilities and talking about them, engineer to engineer. "You're loving this aren't you?" Zielinski muttered from the rear of the deck.
They hurtled on, deep into the miasmic layers of gas. Streamers of colour erupted off the shuttle's flanks as they excited clusters of weird and wonderful matter. The sensors spiked dizzyingly with exotic particle traces as they barrelled and turned through the cloud's material.
Andae sensed Bligh's start, recognised his pause as he looked back over one of his readings. Bligh frowned, "That's very strange," he looked across at Blakus, "Just for a second there I lost all sensor contact with Starbase 47."
"Transponder glitch?" Andae suggested, more occupied with executing a complex turn.
"No, I lost all contact."
Andae finished his turn sequence and set the craft on temporary autopilot. The current course would take them on an indistinct trajectory through some of the middle layers of the cloud. He slid over to Bligh's console; he raised his eyebrows. "That is strange," he said resonantly. "Did we lose contact with anything else? See if you can find the Raven."
Bligh worked the console. "Nope, we lost that too. Its signal is back now of course," he pointed animatedly at the console, "But how did we just lose all telemetry, from outside the gas cloud, for half a second?"
It had slowly seeped into their consciousnesses, that something wasn't quite right in the Piper's cockpit. Something seemed... missing; inexplicably silent and absent. Both men faded in their conversation, their heads turning slowly to the rear area.
Dreadful suspicions and odd sensations were confirmed: Ben Zielinski was gone!

After leaving the holo-suite, Calli went back to the Commodore's quarters with Chloe, Vanessa and Bethan. Once she managed to 'escape' Bethan she went to her quarters and showered. As she dressed her Comm link chimed and drying her hair in the traditional way she instructed the computer to play the message ... "What is the Human term, 'Long time no see' I believe." the man on-screen said, "I know you are, busy. But we should meet ... There is a small, open cafe, on the upper promenade. I will be there this evening from twenty three hundred. It would be, unwise, to disappoint me Callista." The screen showed closed at the end of the message, and Calli instructed the computer to delete all records of the message. She threw the towel down and dressed quickly ... Fifteen minutes later she was entering the cafe ... She spotted the Vulcan immediately ... "What do you want T'leen ?" she asked without preamble, then had to hold her temper as the man stood, signaling to a steward and ordered her a drink, before motioning toward the chair opposite, "Where's Billings ?" "Mister Billings met with an, unfortunate, accident I'm afraid." the Vulcan said, "I am to be your contact from this point on .. Do not worry Commander. I am fully conversant with your status." "I won't ask you twice T'leen !" Calli said quietly. Watching the Vulcan seemingly weighing up a response. "We have read your mission reports." he said, all but dismissing her comment, "Do you have the information you were tasked with acquiring ?" "No ... I don't, and before you start to 'preach' I don't think our department have any need to worry. There's no way the information we received can be correct." "You was not asked to evaluate the data Commander. Just supply us with corroborating evidence, or definitive proof that the accusations are indeed false. Do i need to remind you of your duty to Star Fleet Command ?" Calli stood up, failing to hold her temper as she downed the drink in one and slammed the glass onto the table. No doubt attracting the attention of near-by patrons, but she could care less, as usual ... "Listen to me ... VULCAN ! ... I know my job ..." she said, spitting the insult in his face as T'leen stood up, obviously fighting the 'age old' reaction to an insult, and his urge to kill the Human before him instantly, but Calli continued regardless of his demeanor, "I have been asked to remain aboard the Raven as a Command Grade adviser to Commodore Torek and his Senior Staff ... If truth be known I am grateful of the opportunity to work alongside these Officers. Each and every one of the Command Staff are fully dedicated to the ship, and their Commanding Officer. Do I make myself clear !" T'leen studied the woman for a long long moment, before glancing at the now attentive patrons, who quickly found other things to look at and chat about. Then he looked at Calli. "You will do as requested ... Commander ... Let me assure you. We have noted that you are becoming friends with Commodore Torek's children ... Or rather, child, though that too is inaccurate I seem to remember. I would hate for us to feel the need to 'persuade' you in your efforts. Do not forget that you can be 'replaced' at our discretion. The next person may not be as 'patient' as you appear to be." "Feel free !" Calli said, a cold shiver traversing the length of her spine at the unaccustomed threat from the man before her, before she turned to leave the cafe without another word. T'leen watched her go, then sat down and finished the meal he had ordered. Leaving the establishment he walked to a quiet observation window which affored him some privicy. Once there he took out a Communicator and reported his less than fruitful conversation. ~~~~~~~~~~Reaching her quarters she threw herself onto the settee and all but raged inwardly ........ Then, calming herself, and her mind made up, she sat at her deck and spoke ... "Computer .. Initiate direct secure link with Admiral Tetsutarô." 'Link established'Seconds later her Godfather appeared on screen. "Callista my child. What an unexpected surprise." "I initially agreed to be posted to the Raven because of the investigation." Calli began, without even an hello, "I didn't agree to 'SPY' for you, and now that Vulcan is harassing me. He says Billings was killed !" "Commander Billings was indeed killed. A tragic accident which has been thoroughly investigated. I would remind you of your upbringing Callista, and manners were high on that upbringing. Next time we speak I expect the correct respect to be afforded to me as your Godfather and your Senior Officer .... Now. As for you my dear, no-one is expecting you to spy, more keep an eye on the person we asked you to watch and report any 'inconsistencies' in their behavior. I don't see that as intrusion, and given your fondness for the ship, I thought it easier to allow you to remain aboard for a while." "Then keep that Vulcan side-kick of yours off my back please." Calli said, already getting emotional over the situation, "He threatened the Commodore's CHILDREN, for gods sake !" Sato smiled and assured her that the man would be spoken to, and that he too disagreed that threatening children was not the way to work, regardless of progress, or the lack of it, he added as some sort of afterthought. "Get some sleep Callista, we shall speak again, I will have words with mister T'leen. He has obviously over-stepped his authority. Good night my child." The Comm link closed before Calli could reply. Deep in thought she went to the bedroom and changed into night clothes .... It was a long time before she managed to finally fall into a fitful sleep ..........

Alex was concentrating. His face was screwed up in the kind of grimace that extreme focus always seemed to require. He squinted through the eyepiece of his magnifier, taking extra care to be precise, and painted the final stroke of the "N".
He sat back, releasing a breath that he hadn't realised he was holding. Looking down at his latest model, he felt a small surge of satisfaction. Sure, you could buy models pre-painted by machine, but he always felt that it was the personal touch of the painter's own brush that made each model unique. This model of the Raven was far from completely finished, but he had decided to paint the registration number first. Something about it being his first position, and his newly official Lieutenant pips, made him feel that this one was special.
He leaned back in his chair, staring at the ceiling. Jenny had gone down to sickbay to recieve the standard Starfleet Medical Exam, and her paperwork was well underway to make her an official member of the ship's complement. When Alex had suggested the idea to the Commodore, he had initially been resistant, wanting to hand her over to Starfleet for interrogation. However, and Alex had to smile as he remembered, the Vulcan half of him seemed to have been convinced by Alex's relentlessly logical argument...
[Four Hours Earlier]
Alex stood to attenting in front of the Commodore, snapping off the crispest salute he thought he had ever performed. He wanted this to go well. He didn't want to have to hand Jenny over to Starfleet's interrogators. Maybe he was getting to personally attached to the issue, but he had to go for it before it was too late.
"You wanted to see me, Lieutenant?" said Commodore Torek, looking up from his desk, and the small mountain of PADDs comprising his reports.
"Yes sir." said Alex, feeling that he should probably cut straight to the point. "I wish to take on Miss Gerson as my Assistant Chief Science Officer." He hadn't expected the Commodore to be thrilled at the idea, and braced himself for a struggle as his eyebrows narrowed, reminding Alex forcibly of a hawk about to swoop down and devour a mouse.
"Lieutenant," the Commodore began, "Miss Gerson is a high security prisoner of Starfleet. She is under arrest for...well they haven't actually said yet. This situation requires a whole new legal vocabulary. I suppose the best way I can put it at the present is "crimes against reality." The Admiralty wants to interrogate her, pick her brains on the data that you two recovered."
"I understand, sir," said Alex, "but logically..." he paused, praying that he had calculated his logic correctly. "Logically, she is guilty of nothing."
The Commodore's eyebrows raised. "Explain, Lieutenant," he said curtly.
"The Sanctuary project broke no laws in either their reality or this one. We know what it would have resulted in only through the outside agency of Q. Nobody had any possible way of knowing the nature of the disaster their would perpetrate. Also, while the project itself was classified, Section 47 itself is designated as a Special Operations unit of Starfleet, so she is really no different from any one of us. She also saved my life, sir, and she has a better scientific mind than the rest of my department put together. Taking her on as part of the ships crew would be a logical decision and a benefit to the ship and her crew."
Alex stood, adrenaline pumping through his system. He knew that he had said all that he could, and that Jenny's fate rested with the Commodore's next few words.
Carl's eyebrows narrowed into a distinct V shape, and Alex could almost see the cogs whirring around in his brain. Finally, he looked his Chief Science Officer in the eye and, with the barest hint of a smile, said "I'll do what I can, Lieutenant."
Alex was brought back to reality with a jolt. The insruments he had set up to monitor activity in the nebula at the request of Commander Blakus had suddenly screeched in the way that he associated with impending trouble. Scrambling to his feet so quickly that he knocked the model of the Raven onto its side, he ran to the science station built into the wall of his quarters.
"What the...." he murmured, looking at the readouts he was seeing, before pressing the communicator button on the station.
"Commander Blakus. This is Lieutenant Watson. What's your status? I just got a power spike from the nebula that nearly fried my computer. What the hell's going on over there?"

When he got back to the ship he reported that he was aboard and unless there was anything pending he was turning in. The ships' Duty Officer said there was nothing other than a request from Commander Blakus for use of the shuttle Piper. Carl said it was approved and went to his quarters ...
Chloe was sat on a chair reading when he entered.
"Good evening Commodore." she said, closing the book and getting up, "The children are in bed, though to be honest I think they might still be awake. If there is nothing else I'll get back to my quarters."
"Thank you Chloe." Carl said as the teacher approached the door. As it opened he spoke again, "I really appreciate all the time you are giving to Bethan and Vanessa .... If it's too much then ple ...."
"I enjoy it." Chloe interrupted him, "It gives me something to do, and we get on really well. Tell those two I'll see them in school in the morning. Goodnight Sir."
"Night Chloe." he replied, then tapped on the girls bedroom door, getting no reply he went to the replicator and requested a drink. Taking the glass he sat down to enjoy the warm drink before heading to bed ..........
Next Morning:
He wasn't needed for anything important first thing, so he had time to get breakfast for the girls then see them off to school before leaving his quarters ...
On the Bridge he began signing off on work that had been completed. One PADD had details of work done in Engineering. With pretty much nothing to do he decided to take a walk down to Andae's department. Not spying, more to keep himself occupied. But before he reached the turbo-lift his Comm badge chirped. Tapping it he replied ...
=^= Torek =^=
=^= Commodore Torek .. Commander Danes in the Command Center .. Admiral Tetsutarô has requested you join him for an early lunch in his office .. Twelve thirty hours .. Would that be convenient Sir ? =^=
=^= Tell the Admiral I'll be there .. Torek out =^=
He closed the Comm and checked the time ... He had an hour. He'd take a long walk around the ship, more to pass the time, then go meet the Admiral.
~~~~~~~~~~
Carl always enjoyed his meals with his mentor and long time friend.
Sato Tetsutarô wasn't only Star Fleet's head of Security in Section Forty Seven, but also an expert martial artist and Carls former Sensai throughout his training ... But his favorite pastime was cooking, and one aspect was his passion for sushi. His set of sushi knives, were his pride and joy, carried on every assignment since he was a Captain ... As Sato prepared a salmon sashimi dish he asked Carl how the repairs were going.
"You have something for us ?" he asked, watching the octogenarian deftly slice the raw fish so thin each slice was transparent, then formed them into rose petals the plate.
"No .. No ...." Tetsutarô said, placing the plates down and cleaning the blade of the knife, which he had done after every cut, for the last time, "A race, known as the Cordovin, have recently become members of the Federation. One part of the agreement was, for some reason, for us to send a vessel to assist in archaeological studies on one of their moons ... The USS Howard Carter was expected to go, but they have been delayed in the Gertax System, we're waiting to hear from them for an arrival time back here. Admiral drew is just looking at possible alternatives."
"We can be ready to go in forty eig ...." Carl began.
"Patience Commodore. Patience ... I'm sure if the Raven's services are required you will be informed ... Now, enjoy you meal, you have 'NO' idea how many promises I had to make to get that fish here still fresh ..........
The nebula crackled with energy, readings spiking off the Piper's strained sensor grids. Starbase 47 hung like a picture, mostly unaware of the state of the gas cloud, although - as Andae had hoped - the USS Raven had been alerted to their slight predicament.
They had worked in frantic silence for a few minutes after Ben Zielinski's disappearing act, trying to locate him and work out why he had suddenly vanished. People didn't just disappear, without a sound, without signal of a transporter.
The first thing they had done was to check the rear compartment, to check that Ben hadn't simply been hiding. Then when it became clear he hadn't been tricking them, and after tentatively scanning the ship's interior for human remains - finding nothing - they started studying what'd just happened in the gas cloud.
It was still happening. They were reading baffling shifts in the quantum state of the nebula all around the Piper, taking place in very concentrated areas.
Now Andae took control of the Piper again, trying to steer the craft away from the very visible contusions springing up in the cloud's matter. Bligh's hands flew across his station. "They seem to be triggering each other. One... event, catalyses another."
"So how did all this start?" Andae glanced over at Bligh's console, trying to read its data while keeping the shuttle safe.
The comm station lit up beside him; Andae sighed in relief as he saw that the Raven was trying to make contact. "Commander Blakus. This is Lieutenant Watson. What's your status? I just got a power spike from the nebula that nearly fried my computer. What the hell's going on over there?"
"We're just figuring that out now, Lieutenant." He paused, adjusting the Piper's heading to take it on a course out of the cloud towards the Starbase, "I'm glad you've been monitoring the nebula, Lieutenant. Listen, you didn't detect a transporter signature within the period of that power spike, did you?" Blakus knew he was asking much, considering how the spike must've saturated the Raven's scanners. If it was there then it would require a great deal of searching.
Bligh glanced over at his friend manning the helm. They knew a transportation was unlikely. "Ok, Lieutenant, we're on our way to the Raven now. If you could please keep monitoring the nebula. It might be hard to believe, but one of our number just vanished." He flicked the comm off.
<Tag Watson, where you wish>
"We're out of the worst of it now," Bligh observed. Andae glanced up at the viewscreen, having been guiding the shuttle by the sensor readings.
Sickening swirls of orange and purple streamed towards them as they cut their way out of the nebula's core region. Andae saw how the bruised patches weren't developing quite as fast.
"It's dying down everywhere," Bligh muttered, content to let the event run its course with minimal vocal interruption. It indeed seemed, Andae thought, that the series of quantum shifts were fizzling out, the initial catalyst's effect lost in the baseline fluctuations of the nebula. They reached the designated border five minutes later, and only then did Andae begin to relax.
Twenty seconds later, as they left the very last vestiges of the cloud behind, there was an almighty shunt that rocked the shuttle's mainframe. The two occupants were thrown forwards on to their consoles and then sent sprawling on the floor. The engine note quivered momentarily, then died.
Dusting himself off, annoyed at this latest incident, Andae got back in his chair. "The lines to the fusion reactor have been cut; we have lost all main thrust." He cracked his fingers and looked at the enlargening dot that was the Raven and Starbase 47. Bligh was picking himself up, sighing.
"We should be able to get by on manoeuvring thrusters, right?" he asked.
Andae nodded. They would get to the Raven easily, but they had lost Ben Zielinski, and they still had little idea why. Helpless exasperation pervaded the cockpit as the thrusters fired dry, guided the Piper towards the Raven's shuttlebay, landing fifteen minutes later.
"We're just figuring that out now, Lieutenant. I'm glad you've been monitoring the nebula. Listen, you didn't detect a transporter signature within the period of that power spike, did you?"
Alex turned to the bank of computers beside him, firing them up to run analyses of the energy spike. The computations might take anything from minutes to hours, time that he realised full well they were unlikely to have.
"I'm doing what I can to look into it, sir. If there's a transporter signal in there, I'll find it, but what would a transporter beam be doing in the middle of a nebula?"
"Ok, Lieutenant, we're on our way to the Raven now. If you could please keep monitoring the nebula. It might be hard to believe, but one of our number just vanished."
"Right you are, sir..." said Alex, a little shaken by the news. "If you'd be so good as to come to my quarters once you've docked, I might have some answers for you by then. No promises though."
"Acknowledged, Lieutenant, Blakus out."
Alex took a step back from the comm-link, scanning his eyes over the data that was currently being massaged by his computer. Noticing something strange in one of the readings gathered from the spike, he moved his head in closer, squinting in disbelief.
"No...that's just ridiculous..."
[20 minutes later]
Andae walked into Alex's quarters, and Alex could instantly tell that the Engineer was on edge. This didn't really come as a surprise, but it Alex briefly thought that it might complicate proceedings.
"Any news, Lieutenant?" asked the Commander curtly.
Alex looked up from his computer bank, his brow furrowed. "I'm not quite sure where to start, commander. If I hadn't checked each instrument myself, I'd put these readings down to mechanical failure caused by overload."
"That doesn't tell me much, Lieutenant," said Andae, his eyebrows narrowing.
"Right, sir..." replied Alex, trailing off a little and then regaining his composure. "If you come over here and look at these readouts..." he gestured and the Commander walked over to stand beside him and look at the screen.
"As I said, when I first saw this I thought it had to be a mistake. But here, right inside all the other energy readings, this oscillation of power...it looks like a QET signature."
"A transporter beam?" enquired Blakus,
"No, sir. The QET is in theory a far simpler and, arguably, more effective method of transport. Rather than playing around with all the guff that a transporter beam goes through, the QET is a simple matter transference from one place to another. It never caught on past theory because it requires QEPs."
"QEPs?" asked Andae, a flicker of recognition passing over his face.
"Quantum Entanglement Particles. The idea is that you bind two particles together at the quantum level. Then, whatever you do to one particle will instantaneously happen to the other, even if the two are light years apart. The notion was for totally lag-free communication and transportation, even across the entire Galaxy. The problem is that each QET would only work with those two QEPs. So you'd need a completely different set for every single communicator or transporter. It was an insane inpracticality for production on a large scale."
"I see, but if these things don't work-"
Alex cut him off, with every effort to do so politely.
"I didn't say that they didn't work, sir. I said that they're impractical for large scale use. That, and extremely expensive to manufacture. But when the two particles are active, they create an intense power oscillation, kind of a feedback loop between the two, and that one," he pointed at the screen, "is powered on a scale I'd never even imagined possible. I'm not surprised that your electronics failed; I'm amazed that they survived at all, sir."
Andae hadn't realised he'd got so lucky. Watson's revelations on what he suspected had happened in the nebula made it very clear, that the engineer was fortunate not to have lost the Piper. Despite this, he didn't feel lucky. He felt depressed, helpless, and rather damn unlucky to have been subjected to this shocking turn of events.
He walked to Watson's quarters' window, staring out at the grey sheen of Starbase 47. He watched a squadron of worker bees gliding close to the docking area. He looked back at Alex, "So you're saying that my colleague.. was instantaneously transported to.. somewhere?"
Alex shrugged his shoulders, "If the QET signature is what it appears to be, it's quite possible, sir."
"But -" Andae started. He stopped himself and looked back to the window. "He could be anywhere?" he asked, "Wouldn't he need to communicate with the transporter in some way, to let them know the particle state on this end? I'm afraid your level of expertise in this area far outstrips mine, Lieutenant. The workings of a common transporter? Fine, I can tear one apart and reassemble it in less than an hour, but at this cutting edge of science, if there's no technology to work with then I'm lost."
Alex seemed deep in thought for a moment, before saying, "Perhaps it might be possible, to deduce the range of transportation from the magnitude of the power oscillation."
The engineer blinked, "I thought you said the entanglement theory wasn't connected to distance."
"No," Alex agreed, "In terms of how far one can be transported, that's true. But the resultant power oscillation might not have quite the same independence."
Andae took a long pause, once more eyeing the window, obsessively studying the manoeuvres of the worker pods. "Very well, Lieutenant," he said, "If you wish you may study the sensor spike more closely. In the mean time, I need to report Zielinski's disappearance to the Starbase." He made his way to the exit, but paused. "Oh, and.. in your own time, Lieutenant, and thank you. You didn't have to get caught up in my unfortunate affairs."
<Tag Watson>
Grimacing a smile, Blakus left the science chief's quarters and made his way to his own, in order to use his personal console to contact the Starbase. First he would report to Starbase Operations, then Security personally, and then Ben's diplomatic superiors.
Slightly unexpectedly, there was a message waiting for him on his personal console. Raising an eyebrow, he accessed it, and nearly choked on his freshly replicated port wine. His eyes took in the message recipient and tore their way through the short, sharp message.
Hello Andae. Sorry, just had to get away from it all. I'm safe now. Thank you for the break on the Starbase, it was needed. I don't expect to see you anytime soon. Yours as always, BZ
P.S. I hope I didn't give you both a fright!
Andae sat back in blind shock, the port glass tumbling from his hand to the table. Several emotions scrambled their way to the surface, but the first to reach it was - surprisingly - anger. He swiped furiously at the spilt glass and it smashed against the wall. As he fought for calm, intrigue made its way to the lip of his consciousness. Ben's words: I'm safe now.
"But where are you, Ben?" he muttered, looking again out the portal at the ever-active worker pods.
It had been well over a week since his dinner with Admiral Tetsutarô ... He had managed to get a break to take the children away for a short holiday, but now he seemed to be wandering around the station like the proverbial 'lost little boy' ...
The ship was looking superb, now that the outer hull had been replaced, the Raven gleamed in the artificial lighting of the dock. Star Fleet engineers had certainly taken advantage of the time they had, and everything and anything had been given the once over for possible upgrade or replacement. He was surprised that even the carpeting on the Bridge had been changed. 'Must have nothing to do' he thought. As he left for the station, he noticed the Piper in one of the internal pressurized bays. Engineers and technicians flitting here and there.
"So Andae's little trip was eventful after all." he said to himself with a grin .....
~~~~~~~~~~
He made his way up to the Command Center, as he had done daily, on the off-chance something, anything, would happen that would require the attendance of the Galaxy Class Star ship. But again all seemed quiet. The USS Howard Carter had managed to make it to the Cordovin Sector and was assisting as requested. He was about to leave the center when he was spoken to ..
"Carl ... Unusual to see you up here."
He turned to see the Section Admiral grinning at him, obviously amused at his comment.
"Just checking Sir." Carl said, somehow suddenly a little self-conscious in the middle of the massive room, "I think this is the longest the Raven has been at home."
"Take advantage Commodore, it's not every day we get chance to do all those little jobs that Technical Support never gets to. You should take those girls of yours away while you have the chance."
"Yes Sir." Carl replied, not wanting to mention he'd just done so, "Any more news on Commander McLean ?"
"The last report we got, about a month ago I think, said he was still in Star Fleet Medical on Earth ... They still can't find a way to get him out of the coma, it is totally baffling they say ....... You 'are' OK with having his Daughter aboard aren't you, I can arrange for her to be sent to ......"
"No no Admiral. Vanessa is welcome to stay with us, she's become Bethan's big sister, not to mention partner in crime. She speaks to her Grandparents every week to keep up, but I think she's happy on the Raven .... In all honesty, I think she has it in her head that her Father will come back to work one day."
"Hmm ...." Drew said, suddenly deep in thought, "Well it was good to see you again Carl. I'll nudge these guys to see if we can get the Raven back into space soon. I'm due in a meeting, so I will say bye for now. We'll get a drink in that favorite bar of yours next time you are in dock." Drew said, giving Torek a friendly pat on the shoulder as he left.
He looked round the room on the off change someone would suddenly find a vital assignment for him, but no such luck. He left the Command Center and headed back to the ship ..........
