=^=Kahlena to the bridge. I remember you saying something about needing me, what is it you had in mind?=^= J'Leera looked up from her work and opened the comm link. "Yes, Councellor. I don't know if you remember Anoinette, but she's Commander Flanigan's daughter. Right now she needs someone to be with. This is a very frightening time for her because her father is missing and I'd rather that she not be alone. I have someone with her now, an Ensign Mercer, but I'd rather that you be with her because of your training." Tag: Kahlena "Very well, as long as Doctor Franklin approves. Are you sure you're feeling well enough?" Tag: Kahlena "Alright, keep me posted then, Laika out." She turned her attention back to the away mission. "Commander Kirk, please open a comm link to the away team." "Aye, Captain," he replied. "Commander Thirteen. How is your progress?" Tag: Thirteen

~My training, what could she be talking about? Oh well.~ She thought before responding.
"Considering the circumstances, I would like to do so. She is alone, and I don't know of anyone better than I right now to be with her. I just hope I don't scare the girl half to death when I arrive," Kahlena said muttering the last sentence. She heard the part about the doctor and did her best not to groan.
"You can check with the doctor if you like, but I have been released for now. I feel well enough for this small assignment," she said wanting to comment more, but decided best to keep her mouth shut. Kahlena didn't want to get into any trouble. She found the commander approved and she headed on her way.
Kahlena had noticed the young girl had started to warm up to her, well a little any ways.
"I am fine, the doctor has seen to my wounds," she said to reassure the girl. Kahlena then kneeled down choosing to sit on the floor for now. She carefully spread her wings, and looked to see where the teen was.
"I see no harm in you touching my wings, just please be careful. Do you mind if I call you Toni, Nette, Nat, Nati, or anything like that?" Kahlena said hoping to find the younger girl's preferences on her name.

[Antoinette Flanigan]
"Daddy calls me Toni," the girl replied, reaching out to the creature's wings. "Ooooh they're so soft," she exclaimed, a smile spreading on her pale face. "Aren't they a bother to you?" she asked, peering up at Kahlena, while carefully stroking her wings, "I mean......starship corridors aren't too spaceous are they?"

"'S not bad ey?" Mark said. "Love the weather; gotta give ya that," Jonesy replied. The two men were in the middle of climbing a grassy hill. "Ya think we 's gonna find a civilization?" Jonesy asked his friend. Mark shook his head. "Dunno, we migh'." "I could do for sandwich," Mark said. "We just got here!" Jonesy remarked. "I know, but tha' don' take away that I c'd do for a sandwich,"Mark mumbled.
As the officers reached the top of the hill, they stood still for a moment to watch the valley below. Jonesy frowned. "Hadn' 'xpected it t' go down so deep after just this hill." Mark nodded in agreement. "Hey, wha's that!" Mark said pointing down into the valley. Jonesy focused on the direction his friend just pointed out. "I' seems ta be movin', dunnit?" Jonesy said. Mark nodded as he got a small pair of binoculars from his pocket.
***
After a walk along the grassy plains for about ten minutes, the mountains they saw the moment they'd headed north were now in range. They enclosed the valley as the outer edge of a quarter circle. The mountains did not appear to have peaks, but eyed more like gargantuan rocks. "Mountains would be a logical place for a hideout," Thirteen stated as he obtained his tricorder. "They are within 4.8 kilometers of the Tiger Shark, I suggest we take a closer look." Mick and Alex nodded.
"Cadet, are you alright?" Thirteen asked Alex. "Yes, sir!" she returned, "it's just the crash that got onto me a little sir, I'll be fine." "Very well, proceed." The three officers moved closer to the mountains. =/\= Thirteen to ensigns Mark and Jonesy, what is your status? =/\= =/\= We 's fine commander, =/\= Mark's voice came over the comm, =/\= we've just spotted some movement down in this valley, we're gonna check it out. =/\= =/\= Acknowledged, keep me informed, Thirteen out. =/\=
***
Bur stopped dead, and Dor turned around, looking at his friend with a questioning look on his face. Bur put his nose in the air and sniffed. "Bur smell strange," the sniffing primate said. Dor followed his pall's example and tried to pick up the scent as well. "Dor agree Bur," Dor said. The two men looked up from the valley, to the top of the large grass covered hill. "Bur smell there," the bearded man said. Dor nodded, and the two agreed to head toward the scent they'd picked up.
***
J'Leera's call came in. =/\= We are about to examine a small mountain chain for possible occupants, the other security team I have dispatched reported movement in a valley, they are at the moment establishing a verification. =/\= =/\= Alright, contact me if anything comes up, J'Leera out. =/\=
***
"They's stopped an' headed for here!" Mark told Jonesy. "What? Gimme that!" Jonesy said taking the binoculars from Mark. "You're right, we gotta move!" "Shouldn' we find out what it is?" Mark asked. "B' my guest an' figure out if it likes human meat!" Jonesy said. "Dun be ridiculous Jones!" Mark exclaimed, retrieving his binoculars from his friend.
Mark pointed them at the moving dots, and zoomed in. "Look Jonesy, an' see if I hasn' gone crazy, but I think tha's some kinda friggin' cavemen!" "You're nuts mate," Jonesy said snatching the binoculars. Jonesy turned pale: "They are friggin' cavemen!" "A'right, a'right, take i' easy, we're cool, we're cool." =/\= This is Mark to commander Thirteen, sir we kinda identified the moving dots, an' at first sight, they appear t' be some kinda cavemen! 'S pretty weird stuff sir. =/\= =/\= Be certain you are not seen ensign, value the prime directive. If they seem to be headed for our ship, see if you can lure them away. If you are incapable of getting the situation under control, be sure to contact me, Thirteen out. =/\=
***
=/\= Thirteen to commander Laika, a minor update commander, I have just been contacted by the other security team, and they say to have identified what they saw as 'cavemen'. This may indicate an intelligent, yet very primitive form of live on this planet. However they are in close proximity of the ship, and may pose a problem to us. It is highly possible that we are to encounter their hideout in this mountain chain. Do you have a suggestion as to cope with this problem? We may not interfere with these creatures, as that would violate the prime directive. What are your orders? =/\=

Kahlena noticed the girl was being gentle with her wings, and wished she could smile to show her apprieciation. She pushed away a few thoughts.
"Well, is there a shorter form of your name you would allow friends and people like me to call you? I have always thought what a parent calls a child, like this, should be taken into account before they allow others to use it. What your dad calls you could be special, and I would never want to take away from that," she said quickly not wanting to miss the timing on this.
"I usually keep my wings tucked back out of the way unless I need them. They can be a problem for those walking behind me, but not usually in the corridors. I can't open them when walking around the ship, but I don't need to. What do you like to do for fun?" She said wondering what they could do to pass the time. Kahlena didn't mind talking, but she wasn't sure if Antoniette would enjoy this for much longer.

[Antoinette Flanigan] "Friend?" Antoinette huffed, "I don't have any friends to call me anything. All I have is my dad." Tears started forming at the corners of her eyes, slowly trailing their way down her cheeks. "Please tell me they've found him and that he's all right?"
[James Flanigan]
James barely was able to sit up; his arm had gone completely stiff and even his leg was now throbbing menacingly. The admiral still had not moved and by now James was worrying that she might have passed away and there was nothing he could do to check whether she was still alive.
Gathering food and water was now becoming a serious problem as he was too weak to go out hunting himself. He was fairly certain the bite-wound had infected and he didn't know how much blood he'd lost. He'd been drifting in and out of consciousness and he'd lost all sense of time. Reaching for his canteen, he looked at it in horror when he discovered during the nightly struggle something or someone had knocked it over, and he was horrified to discover their only food source had been scavenged as well.
Through fevered eyes, he peered in the direction of the shuttlecraft. *we have to get there* he thought *it is the only safe place* But how was he going to get there in this state, and get Keztrek there as well?
Wood was about in abundance, and even though he was weak and injured, he would occupy himself with fabricating a small ramp to move the admiral on. At least it would keep him busy for now, but as soon as he managed to finish the ramp the next problem presented itself. There was no way he would be able to move Keztrek without further injuring himself. *a risk I have to take* he decided and after going at great length and effort, he finally had his commanding officer moved into the shuttle.
Suppressing screams of pain, James hauled himself into the shuttle too and managed to close the hatch. Then, he passed out with exhausten and pain.

Following Thirteen's example of climbing back wards through the jeffries tubes, Amhil emerged from the tube's entrance again. She turned to a chaotic engineering. At last that was what it looked like at the first glance, people were running around and trying their best to repair and undo the damage the crash landing of the Tiger Shark had caused. After the replicators, it was time to tackle the big systems they really needed right now. Sensors and long range communications.
Most systems had suffered quite some damage, and even though the bigger picture was getting clearer and Amhil was figuring out which repairs still needed to be done, some damage reports were still pouring in. The damage control teams were on full active, and now that most of the ships' internal sensors were back online (though a lot of consoles were still blackened out, and some of the engineering crew had to get to the 3th tier to access the auxiliary consoles for main engineering from there) the internal ship maintenance teams could also get to work.
Amhil grabbed the sides of the ladder leading to the lower level and whooshed down. She had never before witnessed a emergency crash landing, let alone experienced it herself. The whole ordeal had scared her half to death, but she was amazed everybody was still in one piece. She stared up affectionately at the warp core, grateful that no real harm had been done there. Most of the problems lay with the relays and power supply that suffered damage during the shock wave that was the result of the impact of the Tiger Shark. Engineering's job right now was to locate the damage and repair or replace if needed. Amhil was confident that they would get the sensors up and running again soon, helping the search for the lost shuttle. For a moment Amhil chuckled to herself when she imagined the captain and the first officer surviving their own crisis , coming back to the Tiger Shark and seeing all the damage that had been done to it in the mean time. What would they say? Immediately she felt slightly guilty because what if the away team wouldn't come back in one piece? Or worse, hadn't survived their crash landing. The lieutenant quickly shook of this thought and went back to work. It wouldn't really help her despairing right now when so much was left to be done, she had a job to do.
=/\= "Engineering to the bridge," =/\= Amhil said while tapping her comm. badge. She wasn't sure who exactly was in command right now, since she wasn't really part of the senior crew and hadn't been back on the bridge yet. But, seeing that she now was left in charge of Engineering, it was her job to report any progress to command.
=/\="J'leera here, what is there to report?"=/\= Came the quick reply.
=/\="We're currently working to get the sensors back online to help pinpoint the shuttle's exact location. I'm going to optimistic here and say that we'll have them back up and running again in about an hour, commander."=/\= Amhil answered, and added softly; "With some luck.."

"A girl your age and no friends, that's not right. Well I hope you will consider me a friend. As for your father I haven't heard anything. He could be back, or not, I just don't know. Why don't we do something. What fun activities do you like?" Kahlena said hoping to interest the girl.
~What if I can't occupy her mind? What if she continues to worry about her father like this? She needs to concentrate on something else, but what? Why did they think I would be able to help her, or am I just here to watch over her?~ She thought not sure what to believe.

Thirteen and his security officers ventured forth toward the mountain chain. Alex's tricorder started beeping furiously. "I'm reading two faint life signs about a kilometer from the back of the mountains," Alex said showing Thirteen the data on her tricorder. "One of them appears to have very little brain activity," Thirteen concluded from the readings. "Sir, there's one other thing," Alex said, "they appear to be Starfleet officers. I'm picking up faint traces their commbadges's frequencies."
=/\= Thirteen to the Tiger Shark, we have picked up two faint life signs who appear to be Starfleet officers. There is a good possibility that they are regarding admiral KezTrek and commander Flanigan, we are going to investigate the site right now. It is advisable that a shuttle is prepared for their emergency transport to the Tiger Shark. =/\= Thirteen, Alex and Mick set off at a strong pace in the direction of their apparent commanding officers.
***
"We gotta hide Jonesy, they ain't can't spot us!" Mark said to his colleague, who nodded. "I'd hate t' land on a spit 'bove one o' their fires," Mark joked. "I wonder what I'd taste like with honey," Jonesy said. "Le's not find out for a change," Mark replied. The two hustled down into the valley they came from. There was enough tall grass and several bushes to hide in, and it didn't take Mark and Jonesy a lot of time to find a place where they could like in the cover of bushes and tall grass.
***
"Dor smell strange down hill," Dor said. Bur nodded as the scent was clearly present. "Strange is close," Bur said, peering down hill through narrowed eyelids. The breaths of the two men became heavier as they went down into the valley. The primates took their clubs from their shoulders and held it in their big, muscled hands. They looked around, and all of a sudden Bur's gaze was fixed on a small group of bushes. Dor eyed his friend, and followed his gaze to the bushes. Without speaking a word the men started sneaking closer to the bush formation.
***
"There!" Mick said as he pointed. In the distance they could see the wreckage of a Starfleet shuttle craft. =/\= Thirteen to the Tiger Shark, we have found the shuttle craft of the admiral and the commander, send a shuttle for salvaging, it is probable that admiral KezTrek and commander Flanigan are still on board. =/\= The three officers went on. "That river is blocking our way," Alex noticed looking in the distance.
As they arrived at the river it became clear that it was not possible to cross it due to a rapid current. "What do we do now commander?" Mick asked. "It is too wide to jump across," Alex said. "And that current is sure to take you down," Mick added. "The shuttle should be here soon, there is nothing we can do from here," Thirteen said, "and it would be unwise to attempt to cross the river as it would pose a risk we cannot afford. We will continue with our original plan to inspect the small mountain chain." As ordered Mick and Alex complied, and the three officers headed back to the mountain, just as the shuttle craft Thirteen'd called in flew over their heads.

=^=Away team, this is the Tiger Shark, understood shuttle is on route. Be careful, Tiger Shark out.=^=
At least they had some good news. The Tigershark was another matter. The ship would be repaired, but they would not meet Starfleet standards. When they get back to space dock a lot of systems would have to be replaced, but as of now that didn't matter.
"Commander Laika, we just received news from the away team," T'Brel said," they have found the Admiral's shuttle."
"That's good news," J'Leera responded," what about navigation?"
"That will take a bit more time," T'Brel said," I will be able to fix most of the problems, but it will not be a nice ride."
"I think we can manage," J'Leera responded giving T'Brel a small smile. His response was going to be his best impression of a joke, but his console started beeping at him.
"The shuttle has arrived at its location," T'Brel said," we should be hearing back from the away team shortly."

KezTrek felt numb for a few moments as she started to wake up, but the moment she moved, nausea over took and she turned onto her side just in time to be sick.
"Admiral," Flanigan's voice sounded pained and when KezTrek looked at him, she could see why.
"You look like hell," KezTrek informed him, forcing herself to sit up, even though she still felt queasy.
"You've been unconscious for hours," Flanigan informed her, clearly choosing to ignore her comment.
"You're better company when I'm unconscious," KezTrek said.
"Admiral, Commander!" a voice from outside the shuttle called. Flanigan tried to move.
"Sit still Commander, I think you're bloodied up enough for one day." KezTrek ordered him, standing carefully and opening the door of the shuttle, blinking against the bright sunlight she saw the other shuttle sitting close by and the river beyond that, the remnants of a campfire and signs of a struggle. She guessed some of Flanigan's injuries hadn't happened in the crash.
"Admiral, I'm glad to see you're..."
"Commander Flanigan requires medical attention," KezTrek said quickly, really not in the mood for niceties. Her head was splitting and despite how she was trying to keep up appearances, she felt sick to her stomach.

OFF: This is a joint post between Admiral Keztrek and myself.
ON:
Just after the crewmember had started his phrase about how nice it was to see the admiral again, and after the admiral had snapped her orders, suddenly a hoard of the planet's natives came charging from the bushes, their wolf pack speeding ahead of them. They yelled in an undefinable language, but the wolve's language was quite clear: begone or be our lunch. The hoard so far ignored Keztrek, focusing instead on the new shuttle's crew, forcing them into retreat.
KezTrek looked around for a weapon as the wolves followed the shuttles crew, intent on snacking on them. Where was her phaser? "Commander, where is your sidearm?" KezTrek asked.
James blinked painfully at the sudden light coming from outside and pained his memory for several seconds. He winced visibly as he tried to shrug. "Don't know," he murmured in response, "out there?" Weakly, he pointed at the campsite.
KezTrek frowned. The less than friendly looking natives were spliting their attention between her and the retreating shuttle crew who were barely holding their own against the seemingly endless hoard of attacking wolves. If she could arm herself she was confident she could knock them back and possibly help the crew of the other shuttle, but there was a good distance between her and the phaser and it didn't look promising. They needed a distraction.
James forced himself onto his feet, gritting his teeth to prevent himself from crying out in agony. His left shoulder was stiff with dried blood and torn tissue where the wolves had mauled him, and he hopped unsteadily on one leg to avoid the broken one. "You're more important," he suddenly spoke up, looking down on her with fevered eyes, "I'll go."
"Yes because I'm going to explain to your daughter why Daddy isn't coming home. You're injured, you'd never make it. Are there flares in the emergeny kit?" KezTrek asked, pushing Flanigan back from the hatch a little, wincing in almost pity when he ground out a sound not unlike a dying Targ.
His eyes widened in fear as he remembered his little girl, suddenly wondering if he'd ever see her again or whether she'd forgive him for his apparent carelessness. "There should be," he managed between tortured breaths, "but what good would they do?"
"If we can distract our friendly... cavemen..." KezTrek paused, thinking just how appropriate that term had to be in this circumstance. "If we can distract them with a light show, I can get the phaser." KezTrek finished her thought, keeping one eye on the natives as she looked for the emergeny kit, it was open, not far from her. "Get a flare and fire it right at them when I give the word."
James nodded and took a flare in shaking hands, aiming it at the cavement and waiting for his superior officer to give the word. "Be careful?" he whispered at her, fear now mixed with worry for his commanding officer.
"Now!" KezTrek hissed, darting towards the phaser an instant before the flare had even been released. The natives seemed shocked enough, just long enough, for KezTrek to skid down and grab the phaser, but a instant later a sharp pain ripped through her and she could feel blood trickle from her side. Why, just once, could the backwards natives of planet x, not have learned to make spears yet.
"Keztrek!" James yelled from his position, watching his superior go down. She had the phaser, but was now unable to use it and James watched in helpless horror as she struggled her way back to the shuttle, while the other shuttle crew was being torn to shreds by the wolves. On his last efforts, he dragged Keztrek back into the shuttle and sealed the hatch behind her. "Are you all right?" he asked, his concern obvious, his dislike of her long forgotten.
"Fantastic, I always enjoy getting stabbed," KezTrek hissed, adding something in Klingon that James was sure he'd never be able to repeat. Grinding her teeth she turned around to look out the shuttles viewing hatch, the wolves circled, the natives were snarling and looking even more unfriendly, if that were possible. All she could see of the two officers who'd come on the other shuttle was one bloodied arm and torn uniform. KezTrek growled in frustration and kicked the bulkhead.
"We're stuck here... we have to find a way to contact the Tigershark." KezTrek said, turning her attention to the matter at hand, surpressing the pain in her side. Turning to look at James, he looked twice as bad as he had a moment before.
"We're both injured," James whispered painfully, hobbling over to the nearest seat to flop down into it. "The shuttle is damaged beyond basic repair and our communications systems are down," he continued, "and kicking that bulkhead won't make us go back up there. "We still have rations to last us several days...until we can contact the ship I suppose we have to make do. Perhaps we could trade stories?" He gave her a wan smile, though it was riddled with agony. "Sometimes...I wish I were Vulcan..."
"It's a blessing and a curse," KezTrek said with vauge amusement, sitting down herself on the bench at the back of the shuttle. "Did you know their names?" KezTrek asked, nodding, as if she could see right through the bulkhead towards whatever remained of her dead crewmen.
James shook his head in apparent sadness. "I regret not having had the time to make better acquaintance with the crew," he whispered, "and they did not seem to be much willing to get to know me. To them, I'm an intruder."
KezTrek nodded. It was probably her fault. The crew took their cues from her and she'd be less than welcoming. "Andrew Parker and Alice St Helen. Good people. They have families who deserve to know that and we're going to tell them, so before you start regreting anything, turn yourself around and tell me if we have any power at all. Because we're not giving up."

Antoinette was scared, she was trying to be brave, she knew that's what her dad would want her to do, but he was all she had in the world and the idea that she would loose him terrified her. It wasn't that she couldn't take care of herself, she was perfectly self sufficient, more or less, long hours had sometimes forced her to be able to fend for herself, but never for long and always with the knowledge he'd be back. What would happen to her if he didn't?
"Antoinette, is there anything you'd like to do? We could play a game," Kahlena suggested.
"Daddy an I liked to play charades, he always let me win, he..." Antoinette sniffled. "I'm sorry; I'm not normally like this."
"You're frightened, it's understandable. Would you like to tell me more about your Dad?" Kahlena asked.
"You don't like him," Antoinette said and she sort of giggled, because she was sure if she could have, Kahlena would have looked shocked. "I overheard him recording a personal log; he said no one here likes him."
Kahlena seemed to consider this, Antoinette wondered what she'd say, would she lie? Try to make her feel better? Or tell the truth?

KezTrek woke with a start, dizziness immobilised her temporarily; how long had she been asleep? What had woken her? Everything outside seemed quiet, which meant either the less than friendly natives had taken their wolves and gone to hunt elsewhere, giving up on the idea of snacking on herself and Flanigan, or as was more likely, they were sleeping too.
Moving as quietly as she could, hoping she wouldn't wake the sleeping Commander, she looked out the view port and as she'd suspected they weren't alone, though it did appear at least that there were fewer natives now, left to wait for them to come out while the others went on with whatever it was they did when they weren't staking out crashed alien shuttles. The fact that they'd been left with only two reasonably small looking... she presumed they were men, was either a blessing or a very bad sign.
"Tony..." the whimper came from where Flanigan was sleeping, looking pale and still sticky with blood, he looked like he was having a nightmare. Moving carefully; the dim light in the shuttle was barely enough to see by, but they had very little useable power and light was an unnecessary luxury for the moment; KezTrek moved towards him.
"Commander," she laid a gentle hand on his arm.
Flanigan stirred, hissing quietly in pain before he'd woken up completely and he tried to cover it. "Admiral?"
"We've either had some good fortune, or we're deader than we thought we were, there are only two men camped outside now," KezTrek said, not daring to ask what his nightmare had been about. If the pained expression he'd made was any indication, it was something far more personal than he'd appreciate her delving into.
"If we could get past them to the other shuttle..." Flanigan said.
"We need a weapon and since we're slightly lacking in that department... not to mention we're both injured, that could be problematic, even assuming this isn't a trap," KezTrek said.
"We've seen nothing to suggest they are that intelligent, everything they've done seems to be dictated by instinct. And we've done everything we can here, there isn't enough power to do anything, we can't just sit here!" Flanigan said.
"Don't tell me you're becoming an optimist Commander... I have no intention of just sitting her, but you're not going to like my plan," KezTrek told him.
Flanigan frowned, seemingly considering what sort of trouble he was probably about to get into... KezTrek knew he'd agree, he wanted to get back to his daughter and he'd do anything to get there. Slowly, Flanigan nodded.
"We blow up the shuttle," KezTrek told him and despite the situation, she was forced to suppress an amused smile at his reaction.

"Are you insane!" James blurted out, staring at his commanding officer as if she had made some ridiculous comment, "we can't blow up this shuttle. How do you propose we get to the other one?"
He glanced around their wrecked shuttle, wincing with each slight movemend he made. Finally, his gaze returned to Keztrek. "You have probably suffered a concussion, one of those barbarians out there stabbed you in the side with something and have you looked in a mirror lately?"
He gave her a scampered laugh. "With all due respect ma'am, you look like hell." He held up a hand to silence her. "I know how I look, probably exactly as I feel. I have a broken leg, no doubt several torn ligands and a very agonizing injury to my left shoulder. I can barely use my left arm and hand, and each move I make is painful. Do you expect us to run to that shuttle? I calculate our chances to be very slim."
He continued to gaze at her. "And neither of us is in any state to even pilot that shuttle, should we-" James fell silent. "Transporters," he suddenly spoke up, after a long and agonizing silence, "these shuttles have transporters. With any luck, they weren't damaged in the crash."
The human forced himself back onto his feet and reached for his stick for support, then hobbled over to the transporter. "As though we have a guardian angel," he beamed, "it is still operational!" He could actually kiss the device but thought the better of it, knowing it would look extremely silly.
The excitement returned some colour to his pale face, but the haunted expression never left his features. It was obvious he was in pain, and he wasn't in any condition to go scavenge around for hyposprays and painkillers. The adenalin coursing through his system kept him going for now, but as soon as the excitement would wear of, he would collapse.
"How do we destroy this shuttle?" he finally asked, "self destruct? Or do we just leave it here and come pick it up later." He didn't really want to destroy it, groaning at the mere thought of all the paperwork it'd cause.
"We destroy the shuttle," Keztrek repeated, seemingly on the verge of losing her patience with her recalcitrant first officer.
James sighed. "Very well, then we program the self destruct to go off just after we beamed to the other shuttle." He seemed at the end of his strengh now, and leaned heavily against the shuttle's bulkhead.

Amhil trailed her hand along the walls of engineering, temporarily not wanting to look at the repairs anymore. She had been trying to get the sensors to work for the better part of the past hour or so, and all around her Engineering crew were working just as hard as she to get the ship back into at least a reasonable state. She leaned against the wall and let her head touch it. The cold, smooth material felt soothing against her forehead, as she was beginning to develop a small head ache. She was tired, but of course everybody was.
A Lieutenant jr. came alongside her, and offered her a padd. Amhil quickly regained her posture and took it from the technician. It was a report about all the big and minor repairs that the crew were working on, or had already finished. She had asked for it earlier. She groaned when she saw what state the sensors were in. Maybe her optimistic guess of one hour was just that; too optimistic. Amhil wasn't someone who liked to revise earlier statements, and with a sudden irritation she looked up.
"I want the repairs done on those sensors within the next ten minutes, we need them." She stated, looking directly at the young Lieutenant. She held up a hand before he could protest, "I want every available person working on the major systems, anything that's minor is unnecessary. I also want to have a team of engineers working on getting this ship back into a flyable state. Begin with navigation." Amhil finished. She lay a hand on the fellow Lieutenant's left shoulder. "You better start.... within the next ten minutes, no more than that. I need something positive to tell when I'm going to deliver this report."
"But, sir, don't you think..?" The lieutenant began. Amhil interrupted him. "I'm sure you'll manage with the extra manpower. Just don't work too fast, I want to be back before you finish so I can take credit." Amhil grinned, before turning around and striding towards engineering's main doors.
Stepping into the turbo lift, which she now blindly trusted to work since she had overseen most of the repairs being done on it herself, she started making some quick modifications to the report.
"Bridge." She ordered, and the doors closed with a silent whizz. Looking back down, she returned to editing the report. Besides a few finished repairs that were missing, she also added her new calculation of the time it would take to fix some of the other systems. She was sure it would be considerably shorter now that they would tackle the major systems one at a time. A few seconds later the doors opened to reveal the bridge and looking up, Amhil stared directly at the commander in charge, J'leera. She stepped onto the bridge and waved the padd as an answer to J'leera's questioning look. Amhil handed over the repair report. "You'll be glad to know the repairs are coming along fine, commander." Amhil said, temporarily avoiding eye contact as the Science officer took it and skimmed through it quickly. Amhil waited for a short moment, but felt it necessary to add something more. "Repair has already begun to get navigation back online, and it I'm confident it will progress smoothly.." She said, hesitating for a second. J'leera looked up and studied the Assistant Chief Engineer. Interpreting her hesitation in the right way, the commander supplied the word that was going through Amhil's head; "..But?" "But..." Amhil took over, "..well, we can get this ship flying again very soon, but I don't see how it matters when we don't have a clue yet how to get it back into space." She replied, frustration written all over her face. This had been bugging her for a while now. "We don't know what happened during the crash." She continued, "One of the first systems that went down were the sensors, after that navigation failed, the engines just 'stopped', the whole system had a massive failure! If we don't know what happened, we can't do anything to prevent it from happening again." She sighed, "Unless we figure out a way to get past the radiation belt safely, I don't think we'll be flying any time soon." Amhil was annoyed at herself for not seeing the problem yet, she had looked into the matter a few times now. It wasn't that she couldn't supply a satisfactory reason for the crash, she had plenty of explanations at hand. The problem was she had so little information. Without proper data any one of her explanations was just a wild guess, and not something they could work on to find a solution. <Tag J'leera>

"Very well, then we program the self destruct to go off just after we beamed to the other shuttle." Flanigan said as he leaned heavily against the shuttle's bulkhead.
"Not exactly. The shuttles damaged, power is minimal, transporting us, even just that short distance is going to drain power significantly, their won't be enough power to activate the self destruct," KezTrek said.
"Then how do you propose we do it," Flanigan asked, the seemingly ever present hint of 'you're insane' still there, if hidden under the layer of bone tiredness that seemed to be settling over the man.
"I'm going to rig the shuttle into overload. The reason we don't have the power is because it's too dangerous to connect the shuttles engines back into the main power system without causing an overload. Kaboom," KezTrek smirked at Flanigan's withering look. "Since we want to make the shuttle go boom..."
"We could be caught in the explosion," Flanigan protested weakly.
"And we could starve or be eaten by Ig and Ook out there if we do nothing. It's a risk Commander, but we only need enough time for the transport to complete and to raise the shields on the other shuttle," KezTrek tried to be reassuring, but she was tired and despite all her efforts to suppress the pain her side still hurt and it was getting worse, if they didn't do something soon it would all be theoretical.
Flanigan nodded in vague agreement. Whether he was agreeing they were screwed, or agreeing to the plan, KezTrek wasn't sure, but she took it as the latter and moved to sit at the lamely flickering console.
"If this works, I'm not going to have time to warn you..." KezTrek said, turning her head to look at him.
"I understand," Flanigan nodded, his form still pressed tiredly against the bulkhead, she almost wanted to tell him the bulkhead didn't need him to hold it up, but now hardly seemed the time.
"I'm connecting the shuttles engines to the main power grid now..." KezTrek said vaguely, her fingers moving quickly over the console, tapping away a set of instructions and she'd admit later maybe, guessing the co-ordinates of the other shuttle based on navigation skills she hadn't used in years... everything flickered like the shuttle itself was angry and protesting before KezTrek felt the familiar pull of the transporter beam.
The instant she felt solid again, she looked around just enough to be sure Flanigan had safely made it as well and had time only to see him collapse against one of the shuttles rear benches before she was moving again, raising the shields as the world outside lit up like every firework display she'd ever seen all rolled into one.
Fire blinded her and even with the shields to protect them the shuttle shuddered in protest, the shields straining against the outside pressure of an explosion so close at hand. When the world settled again KezTrek felt weak and dizzy, ready to throw up or pass out, maybe both.
"Admiral," Flanigan's voice reminded her neither was an option. He was getting weaker by the minute, the blood loss and numerous injuries, even with the patchwork she'd done using the shuttles med kit, he needed real medical attention. She did too, but she would last longer.
"We probably took some damage, even with the shields... but look at it this way, with any luck, the Tigershark saw out light show and knows we're in trouble... or with even better luck, the communications and sensors on this thing weren't completely fried by our light show and we can contact them," KezTrek said, helping Flanigan to lie down, even as he protested.
"Unless you want to *walk* up front and help me run a systems check, you'll sit there, quietly and try not to die on me," KezTrek added the last bit with a smile and she hoped Flanigan understood the humour; she had no intentions of letting him die. She just hoped this shuttle was still able to fly... and sensors and communications wouldn't be a terrible thing either... it was bad enough she'd have to explain how one shuttle got trashed, she wasn't explaining two.
"The sensors took a beating... time to test the communications I guess..." KezTrek said, looking back at Flanigan, before she tapped the console in front of her. "Admiral KezTrek to Tigershark," KezTrek attempted, getting nothing but static back. "Maybe something is blocking the signal, or... we could boost it maybe... if..." KezTrek muttered to herself, tapping command after command into the shuttles main console hoping for *something* of use to come back at her.

Kahlena listened to the young girl, and suddenly realized the spotlight was on her now.
"Antoinette, I am new here myself. I barely know your father, so I can't hate someone I don't know. I would like to get to know you, your dad, and the whole crew a lot better though. Why don't we start with you? We could play charades, if you will teach me how to play," she said realizing she had no clue what this game was. It intrigued her.
After having learned to play, Kahlena was getting better at it, but she still lacked in the score. Suddenly in one of the rounds Antoinette bumped a table sending the contents sprawling through the air. Kahlena caught them in mid air using her mind only putting the table and its contents back the way the should have been.
"How did you do that?!" She exclaimed, and Kahlena chuckled.
"It is something I learned when I was very young. On my home planet we learn our minds are tools for us to use in many different ways. One way is telekinetics," she answered quickly.

"A girl I went to school with was telekinetic, but she wasn’t very good, Daddy says it's not very exact, that things like that can fail because it relies on the person being able to control their emotions and if they can't, they make mistakes," Antoinette said.
"That's true, sometimes if I loose control of my emotions, especially if I get scared, I make mistakes," Kahlena agreed.
"Have you ever hurt anyone?" Antoinette asked.
Kahlena shifted a little, but shook her head. "I made the bridge crew float, but none of them were hurt," she said.
Antoinette giggled. "I wish I'd seen that."
"It was silly really, I don't know why I did it," Kahlena said.
"You were scared. Daddy says it's normal to get scared going to new places... even if the places don't scare you, because they're unfamiliar. I was scared coming here too... I'm scared now. Daddy is all I have left, if he... I wish we'd never been sent here, but Daddy said we had to come, that he was hand picked..." Antoinette said, the brave face she'd been trying hard to put on, crumbling a little more.

KezTrek kicked the console, hearing it rattle sort of unpleasantly, before the static started to clear. "Well if I'd know that was all it needed I'd have fixed it an hour ago," she ground out irritated.
Flanigan grunted like he might be agreeing, but didn't really answer.
"Rear Admiral KezTrek to the Tigershark, please respond," KezTrek attempted again.
The open channel hissed objectionably for a moment. "... Laika, it's *hiss* hear from you Admiral,"
"J'Leera, good to hear your voice. We've hit a few snags here. The shuttle we landing in has been destroyed and the shuttle you sent is damaged. Lt Parker and Ensign St Helen are dead. I'll explain everything later I promise. But if we're going to make it past the radiation belt safely, I need to know how you got the shuttle down," KezTrek said, hoping the message got through.
"We didn't exactly, the Tigershark is on the surface," J'Leera replied, sounding more than a little worried, even through the less than perfect connection.
"I'm going to ask later why that is, but for the moment, just give me your coordinates, Commander Flanigan needs medical attention," KezTrek said.
J'Leera provided the coordinates and KezTrek cut the channel, insisting anything else could be discussed in person, Flanigan looked terrible and she was feeling queasy herself.
Ignoring how the shuttle jittered objectionably when she lifted off, KezTrek let the ships computer do most of the flying, heading towards the coordinates J'Leera had given her; she barely surprised a gasp when she saw the state of her ship. It looked more or less intact from the outside but it was covered in dirt and other debris that had obviously come loose from the planets surface when she hit.
The second she landed in the shuttle bay several officers were on top of her, medics were directed straight to Flanigan with her not entirely honest insistence that she was fine.
"Commander Laika is on the bridge ma'am," a young crewman responded quickly when she asked and KezTrek prided herself on the fact she didn't even scowl at being called ma'am. Maybe she was getting too old for all this... it certainly felt like she was getting too old for all this.
*Bridge*
KezTrek steadied herself before she stepped onto the bridge from the Turbolift, taking a few moments to make sure she was composed. "Report!" she snapped in her best 'I'm an Admiral' voice, waiting to see who would speak first.

"You 's got your weapon charged?" Mark whispered. Jonesy nodded. "'ve got i' set t' stun." They could almost feel the ground tremble as they heard how the primates were coming in their direction. The two security officers heard how the men exchanged growling vocal sounds, though their universal translator was incapable of giving a suitable representation of their language.
Both Mark and Jonesy aimed their phaser rifles at the origin of the sound. The chattering stopped. Under the crashing sound of bushes being trampled by heavy feat the postures of two huge bearded men came plunging into vision as the hideout of the two friends was invaded by Bur and Dor. The officers didn't hesitate a second and pulled the triggers of their rifles under Mark's shouted comment: "Self preservation comes b'fore the friggin' prime d'rective!"
Jonesy's eyes grew wide as the huge primate that stood in front of him gave no reaction to the impact of his phaser beam, and instead raised the metal bar in his hand high in the air to have it crash down on Jonesy. The lights went out for Jonesy. As Mark faced the same problem where his primate showed no reaction to his phaser fire, he tried to get up and scurry off, tripping over his own feet, and the bushes he tried to plunge through. The last thing he felt before going down was the impact of a heavy object on the back of his head.

As Thirteen and his officers were headed back toward the mountain, the howls of wolfs sounded from the other side of the river, soon followed by the screaming of people. Alex looked alarmingly at Thirteen. "Sir, mustn't we do something?" "There is nothing we are capable of accomplishing from this side of the river," Thirteen answered. "But we can't just let them -" "Cadet, we will resume with our duty, as we will let them fulfill theirs," Thirteen interrupted Alex.
=/\= This is commander Thirteen calling ensigns Mark and Jonesy, what is your status. =/\= For some reason Thirteen had grown accustomed to calling the people of his department by their first names. The comm gave static back. =/\= Ensigns Mark and Jonesy, respond. =/\= "Perhaps the mountains interfere with communication," Mick said. Thirteen took out his tricorder. "They do not appear to do so." =/\= Commander Thirteen to the Tiger Shark, are sensors operational? Two of my officers are not responding to hails. It is concerning ensigns Mark and Jonesy. =/\= =/\= Sensors are not operating yet commander, but we'll be sure to notify you when they are. =/\= =/\=Very well, commander Thirteen out. =/\=
"Perhaps they're not speaking because of those creatures they came across," Alex said. "It is indeed possible that they are in too close a proximity of the primates that communication would give them away. Another possible option is that they have been caught." Alex shivered at the idea. "We had better return to the Tiger Shark, night will be settling in soon, we will continue our search tomorrow morning," Thirteen said. "But sir, what about Jonesy and Mark?" Mick asked. "Without sensors we cannot locate them, and we would only endanger our lives when searching during nightfall," Thirteen responded. "But they could be dead by then!" Alex protested. "And very possibly so could we be if we continued our search." "But -" "We are not going to discuss this. We are returning to the Tiger Shark," Thirteen said sternly. Alex was staring at the ground and Mick mumbled a few words before they set off to follow their department's leader. "I heard that lieutenant." Mick blushed.

T'Brel had never been happier to hear the Vulcan's voice, she always brought a sense of power and strength. Then almost immediately T'Brel remembered that he was still mad at her and his pleasant mood vanished.
"Commander Laika, engines are operating again, but it's not pretty," T'Brel reported as he went back to work. He hoped he could improve its output by seventeen percent more. His work was interrupted once he felt a powerful telepathic presence. He already knew it was the Admiral, her presence was hard to ignore when she was agitated.
"Report!"
"Engines will be operational in a few hours, I have to do some more repairs," T'Brel reported not waiting for J'Leera to report the rest.

OOC: Hey, is there any way I get first dibbs on hitting T'Brel?
IC:
Kahlena noticed the girl was getting more and more upset about her missing father. Her words were sinking into Kahlena's mind.
"This place didn't scare me, its the people here. I've never had a family before, and that's what this feels like. I think that is why I made the bridge crew float. What do you do to get rid of being scared?" She said, hoping it was something they could do together.
"I'm sorry he isn't here, but maybe I can be a good substitute while we wait for him to return. Maybe you can help me. I don't understand families, what is the use of a family?" Kahlena said hoping the question wasn't too hard for the girl.
After awhile of questions, Kahlena could tell Antoinette was bored, and she thought of things to do.
"Do you like puzzles? We could have the replicator make one, and we could put it together. There are many different puzzles. There are flat ones, 3D ones, round ones, square ones, triangular ones, do you like any of these?" She said trying to take their minds off of their troubles.

Medics eased James' battered body onto a stretcher as carefully as possible. The first officer's left shoulder was a battered and bloody mess and by now his arm had gone just about completely numb. James was mostly oblivious to the ministrations of the medical team, he was constantly slipping in and out of consciousness and by now was suffering from a dangerous fever.
"Toni!" he suddenly cried, bolting upright on the stretcher. He looked around, eyes shining with fever as he tried to find his daughter. The medical team had the greatest difficulty easing the tall human back onto the stretcher and finally were forced to strapping him down. Not only for his own safety, but for theirs as well.
The medical team hurried him down to sickbay and quickly transferred him to a biobed. "Doc Franklin!" nurse Betty Mahony called, trying to get the CMO's attention, "first officer's badly hurt!"
The nurse did her best to make the first officer comfortable, trying to reassure him on the fact that his daughter was fine. "Severe bloodloss," she reported, as Franklin approached, "multiple lacerations all over his body and look," she pointed at his shoulder, "these look like bite marks. Also, his right leg is broken in two places."
Betty looked up at Franklin. "They got back just in time didn't they?"

OOC: Sickbay's empty except for a skeleton crew right now, most of the medical staff is in the triage area in the mess hall.
IC: The last of the wounded had finally been treated, and as Franklin looked around the messhall, which looked more like an emergency field hospital, he noted that most wounds weren't so severe after all. Scrolling through the text on the PADD, the facts seemed to support his findings. Broken bones, cuts and bruises, a few concussions here and there, and one case of mildly severe bloodloss due to flying up a turboshaft. And even the latter had been treated quickly and rather efficiently.
Just as Franklin was about to contact sickbay to ask for an update regarding the power status (provided the communications would work down there), he was called for himself, as a medical team rushed in and laid down a command officer on a stretcher.
Franklin noted the irony in his earlier thoughts, as he grabbed a nearby cabinet and pushed it towards the patient.
Franklin quietly nodded in agreement, taking out a medical tricorder, scanning the bitemarks first. "Interesting," Franklin murmured, as he swayed the tricorder over Flanigan's body. "These marks resemble those of the Canis Lupus Rufus... It seems the commander has been attacked by wolves." The commander weakly murmured something.
<Tag Flanigan>
Franklin took note of what Flanigan said, and continued his examination. As he had suspected from the colour of the wound, scans revealed it to be severely infected. Franklin turned towards the nurse, pointing to the erratic vital signs which were now being displayed on the monitor. "It seems that wolves in question carried an infection, which has now spread to the commander. I will need 10 cc's of melorazine, 20... no 30 cc's of corophizine. Mix the latter with 5 cc's of filagen. Also, I will need a blood-infusion kit." The nurse hurried to fill the hyposprays and prepare the kit while Franklin turned towards the patient.
"I'm going to administer a sedative, so you will fall unconscious. That will enable me to treat your wounds and fever more effectively. I do not expect surgery to be needed, but you will need an extensive treatment. Do you understand?"
<Tag Flanigan>
Franklin nodded, while the nurse delivered the hypospray. The commander almost immediately fell unconscious.
"Right, miss Mahony, please prepare the blood-infusion packs." Franklin ordered while injecting the corophizine, hoping this would be enough to neutralize the infection.
OOC: A cliffhanger, I will post a follow-up later, right now, I need to go..
