Saryn sat on his bed, cross legged and with his eyes closed. He had tried to meditate but halfway through, Numike had crawled into his lap and in reflex he had wrapped his arms around her so that she wouldn't fall off. The girl had nestled herself against him, had sighed once and had drifted off into an uneasy sleep.
The Vulcan couldn't blame her, even though he had slightly assisted her with getting to sleep, even if she would not recall it. He too was starting to feel the effects of hunger, but he imagined that for her it was even more frustrating. He took a few deep breaths and opened his eyes, just as the guards brought the captain back and dumped him on his bed. They left without saying a word.
Briefly, Saryn wondered whether the priest would come back, either for himself or for Numike. He had already vowed that no matter what, he would fight to keep Numike from the High Interrogator. He was, once more, surprised to find himself still in possession of his sword, which confirmed to him that they valued such a possession and would not part him from it. He already reasoned that he was, in a way, expected to defend himself and they obviously didn't want to leave him defenseless.
He had, however, noted that Kirk's phase pistol was missing from their possessions. If Kirk had possessed one, that was because Saryn could not remember whether Kirk actually had one when they were taken. Carefully, he eased Numike down on his bed and covered her with the few blankets that were present, then fluidly rose to his feet.
The Vulcan felt a little sore from his struggle with Saphira and he was suffering a headache from her forceful intrusion into his mind, but if that was the price to pay in order to make her see he was no deamon, he would gladly do so. Slowly, he made his way to the other bed and sat on the edge. Quietly, he probed the captain's limbs to check them for breaks and bruises, moving from his legs, past his sides out to his arms and fingers.
Once he did that, he placed the palm of his left hand on the captain's brow, carefully lifting his eyelids in turn to check the reflexes of his pupils. His other hand, he placed on the captain's chest, monitoring the rise and fall of it as he breathed. After that, he moved his fingers to the captain's right wrist, found the proper place and carefully counted to himself, taking his pulse.
Nodding once, Saryn was satisfied to learn that the captain was merely unconscious, but would be all right otherwise. Frowning, he placed his hand over his own abomen, no longer able to ignore his hunger. Looking over his shoulder, he was relieved that Numike was still asleep since he worried deeply for her safety and sanity.
While Numike had in fact saved him from the induced state of unconsciousness, he couldn't condone the fact that she had let herself be seduced into feeding on him. He had told her not to worry about it, but it was something that needed disciplining once they returned home. His fingers found the two tiny spots on his throat, where she had bitten him. His collar was stiff with dried blood and he imagined that his face too was in part still covered with his own blood, where she had spilled it after he had forced her away from him.
"Captain..." Saryn carefully shook his superior. "Andrew, wake up. We need to work on an escape, we cannot stay here. Numike needs food, and soon..before she turns on us. She already turned on me earlier. I do not know how long I can attempt to keep them off, I am weaking as well and I must admit to experiencing hunger as well."

Andrew heard Saryn’s words as if they were off in the distance. He recognized the voice and could understand the language, but his conscious mind was too far from the surface to comprehend meaning of Saryn’s words.
“Captain…Andrew wake up.” Andy’s eyes opened up with an audible gasp form his mouth.
“Saryn?” Kirk eyes weren’t used to low light levels and Saryn’s faced appeared half in shadow, which caused demon like shadows to appear on the illuminated side of his face.
“We need to work on an escape, we cannot stay here.”
Andy lifted himself up off the bed; his head tingled from the Grand Inquisitor’s mental invasion, “I agree.” He replied as he pressed his fingers against his temples.
As his eyes adjusted to the darkness he saw that Saryn still was wearing his sword. He then quickly reached over to his right side and found that his phase pistol had been taken form him. Must be out of respect for ceremony, Kirk thought as he again eyed Saryn’s blade.
“I have a plan.” Kirk said as his head began to clear up.
NX-03 Challenger
F’rehl stood aboard the Challenger’s bridge and watched in amazement as how well the humans worked together, and as he watched he quietly noted that his people could learn about cooperation from this foreign alien race.
“Bring us about,” Jack said, “Arm all primary weapons.”
“Weapons are armed sir.”
“Polarize the hull plating.”
“Aye sir.”
Jack turned to the Vackall, “We’re ready when you are.”
F’rehl opened a handheld communicator and spoke several native words, and after a quick reply he returned Jack’s gaze with a simple head nod.
Vackall Prime Fleet
Lieutenant Walter Norton sat with his squad of MACO soldiers in a cramped Vackall transport craft. It was hot and stuffy and the red light didn’t calm his nerves in the slightest bit.
“Lieutenant Norton respond.” Walter heard the familiar voice of his commanding officer.
“Go for Norton sir.” Walter replied as he pressed onto his earpiece.
“Walter, we’re going in hot. Shoot to kill and take no prisoners. We need to make this extraction as fast as possible, understood?”
“Yes sir.”
“Good luck Walter, and happy hunting.”
“You too sir.”
It took a fair amount of effort to move his gear so he could stand, but what he had to say was important so it was worth the effort. Most of his soldiers were replacements, as he was as well, but this was their first combat mission together.
“Gentlemen, this is it. This is what we’ve been training for these past few days. Lock and load and make sure you shoot to kill. The last thing we need is a wounded soldier shooting us in our backs. First squad says they will get to the Captain first, I highly doubt that. Besides, I have fifty bucks on the line so don’t disappoint me. Ready?”
“Yes sir!” Called out the squad in one loud voice.
Vackall Rebel Ship
Kirk stood on one side of the door with Saryn on the other. His sword seemed to glow in the darkness. Numike was crouched in the dark recess of the small room. Each person knew their role and each person knew their lives more than likely hung in the balance.
An escape is tricky, but factor in being outnumbered several hundred to one can be called suicide. Andy held his breath as he tried to slow his heart rate. It wasn’t the fighting that caused his nerves to skyrocket; it was the anticipation of the violence that was to come.
Just then the door slid open, spilling light into the darkened room. Here we go, Kirk thought as he balled up his fists.

Saryn stood, though somewhat unsteady, his hand on the hilt of his sword. "You are in no condition to fight captain," he had urged, but Kirk would not heed his answer, despite the logic of his explanation. Of course, the Vulcan understood his captain's need to participate, after all, he was the captain.
Numike, however was held back. The girl was still in tears even though she too, pleaded that she could help. Saryn told her to watch their backs and warn them of people coming from behind. She could feed on any who fell, as long as she kept up with them.
He squinted against the sudden bright light, as the room they were held in was currently covered in utter darkness. The priest who had saved him before walked in, carrying a large plate. The young man looked utterly apologetic when he set the plate down. "I'm sorry," he said, before turning and walking away.
Saryn nodded for Numike to dig in, watched as Kirk too reached for the meat but Saryn himself didn't touch it. The thought alone of devouring meat made him utterly ill. Yet, he had to eat something. Still, when Numike offered him a slice of the red meat, he had no choice but to take it. He too, had to admit to experiencing hunger and since he had already felt faint, he swallowed the meat quickly, not allowing himself to taste it. He gagged twice, but held it down with a fair amount of effort.
The door opened again and this time, Saryn darted forward, knocking whoever entered aside. Behind him, Kirk and Numike sprinted along. Vackall guards sprang into action and Saryn drew his sword, fighting them with all his might. He was oblivious to the blows and cuts he received in return. Once, he felt something smash against his back, just below his right shoulderblade and pain lanced through his back. He ignored it and kept on pressing forward.
Suddenly, he became aware of fighting among three fronts. It was himself with Kirk and Numike but to his right two additional people were fighting along with them. He blinked as he recognised the priest and the grand inquisitor. From the opposite direction, he recognised MACO uniforms and a slim figure with a mane of bright red hair.
Then, as his attention briefly faltered, he felt something strike the back of his head and he sprawled forward, the sword sliding from his grasp. Saphira sprang over the sprawled Vulcan, hauled him back to his feet and pressed the sword back into his hand. "Don't fail now," she spat, "you are our undoing, demon, but I shan't fall because of it!"
Blinking, Saryn regained his bearings but he felt dizzy still. Beside him, Numike growled at the enemy Vackall as they fought. Just like that, the fighting was over and Saryn collapsed to the deck. Kirk too seemed to be at the end of his energy, what remained of his uniform showing fresh stains of blood from his injury. Only Numike and the two Vackall that joined them were still on their feet.
"They need help," the young priest called over to the MACO's, while Numike ran over to the red-headed woman.
"Sharon, you came!" the girl cried, "father and Captain Kirk are injured..." She wiped the tears from her blood-stained face. "I had to bite him..they made me bite him..." She looked up at Colonel James, who approached just then. "The captain's badly hurt," she reported, "we had help in escaping. They" - she pointed at the priest and Saphira - "hurt them first but they helped us."

Challenger:
Sharon worked with Robert getting the team ready to go, Sharon would be piloting one shuttlepod with security and macos and a maco officer would be piloting the other. Sharon was nervous but ready as they boarded the shuttlepod, she had two phase pistols and powerpacks just in case she needed them.
They left Challenger and headed over to the Vackall ship, they dodged heavy fire, darting in and out, Sharon's stomach screaming at every turn but she ignored it they made it to the Vackalls landing bay where they were met with heavy resistence.
Vackall Ship:
"We take no prisoner everyone, be prepared for anything." Sharon stated as they left the pod.
They fought their way through, Sharon took a shot on the shoulder but ignored it and kept going, they made it down one corridor and into a lift, her team had lost sight of the Colonel's team but she had a feeling he was not far behind or would find another way. She had downloaded information from the ships sensors onto her pda so she knew what deck the Captain was on, she had a feeling wherever he was the Doctor and his daughter would be there as well.
They got off on the right deck and headed down the corridor and ran into more fighting as the Colonel and his team reached the same point as they did, and soon it was over, Sharon was tired but recognized Numike as she approcached.
Sharon narrowed her eyes at the two people that Numike pointed to. 'Why did you hurt our people?" Sharon asked.

As the first squad with Commander Wolf headed to free their Captain, Doctor and his daughter, James took 3 MACO's with him in the other direction toward the bridge of the rebel cruiser, he was charged with taking back the Rebel commander that had started all this trouble.
As the fighting intensified the 4 MACOS could not get a clear advantage. Seeing his target firing back at him from the open bridge door. Robert had another Idea. "Sgt. Hase get ready to tag the rebel commander as we retreat." At a signal from Team one, James raised his voice so all the MACO's and hopefully the enemy could hear; "Ok fall back we will have to try another route,” As the MACO’s fell back they kept up a heavy fire to keep the Rebel's from following them; but the Vackall Rebel Commander would not loose his chance to kill these invaders, who had soiled his command deck. As he lead the Charge after Team 2 Sgt. shot him with a tracking dart, the dart injected a nuero paralyzing drug along with a radioactive isotope that would allow the Challenger to get a transport lock on him and beam him to the Vackall Prime ship.
It was only a few seconds before the Rebel commander regained his senses and …” I am fine get them and bring them to me so I can execute them myself.”
As their leader hit the deck the firefight stopped and the MACO’s slipped away. “ James to Wolf we are on our way back to the shuttle. Do you need assistance?”
Before the Commander could repply James and his MACO's rounded a corner and almost ran into the Doctor and the Captain with team one on the other side.
"Captain fancy meeting you here." James quipped.

Sharon had to stifle a giggle as the Colonel had to stop short of running into everyone.
"The Captain and the Doctor are both injured, it maybe safer transporting them over then taking them by the shuttlepod. What do you suggest Commander? Colonel is there strill fighting going on, if so we need to put an end to it." Sharon asked.
Sharon turned and looked at the two people she was not familiar with wondering if they could at least be of some help besides just standing there.

James looked to the Doctor to see if he had any comments on the Commanders suggestion. "I am not inclined to beam anyone to the Challenger unless it is absolutely necessary as we have not had time to re certify it for biological transport after all the damage we took sence coming to this galaxy. As for the fighting yes we should leave as soon as possible. Load everyone into the shuttles now Sgt Lewis and I will hold them until you get the Captain, Doctor and his daughter out of here; now move out."
Colonel James turned closing up his armor and took his place on the left side of the Hall way to the shuttle bay, with Sgt Lewis taking up a place on the right side.

Saphira walked up to them, carrying half a javelin. "I found this along the way," she reported, "did anyone get hurt earlier? I think it struck someone and then snapped off."
The priest scouted around, shaking his head. "I don't see anyone..." Then he looked down as Numike tugged his robe and pointed at her still unconscious father. "Oh..Saphira, you may want to have a look."
The high inquisitor scowled at her priest's familiarity, tossed the remainder of the javelin to Wolf, then knelt down beside the Vulcan. She watched James leave, nodding her agreement with his assessment, even though he had a very funny way for saying he wasn't transporting anyone from here to their vessel. Very..quaint way.
"Help me turn him over," she ordered, her voice clear and strong. Her clothing was no longer the speckless white it had been before; it had turned a mix of grey speckled with green, red and purple blood. Some of it was her own, some of it the Human's and some of it the Vulcan's. By now, her belief that he was a demon was completely shattered, even though she tried valiantly to keep up an ignorant appearance.
Together with the priest, she turned Saryn over onto his stomach, then told Numike to take his cloak and sword. "He hasn't any use for it now, hold on to it child, he'll want it back."
Burying her face against Sharon's uniform, Numike took the offered items. "Is he going to die?" she whispered, her voice trembling.
"No," Saphira answered curtly, "not unless we get him to his medical bay immediately. I can't treat him here." She turned him back over, then swept him up in her strong arms. "Lead the way to that craft of yours," she told Wolf, not bothering at all with the courtesy of name and rank.
The priest kept Kirk onto his feet and helped him along. "How far?" he demanded of Wolf, who was guiding Numike along.
"It had better not be far," Saphira snapped, "your demon is fading. I haven't removed the part of the javelin that struck him, but it struck him good. It's a miracle he kept going like he did."
Numike laughed at her ignorance. "You don't know my father," she informed the tall woman. "He's a stubborn man, and very strong." Part of that was true, but the entire truth was that, while the javelin was still embedded into his body, he wasn't bleeding as much as he would when it wouldn't be. He had felt the agony of being struck, but he had effectively buried the sensation and the accompanying emotion, with the help of the adrenalin that had coursed through his veins.
Once the fighting had stopped, his body simply had shut down on him, turning it's attention towards keeping him alive. During the trip to the shuttlepod, Saryn regained consciousness once, and was strangely aware of being carried. Saphira paused briefly to touch his temple, inducing the sensation of sleep upon him for a second time. ~rest~ she told him ~we're almost safe~
"Hurry," she told James out loud, once she entered the pod with her charge.

Sharon looked at the Colonel waiting for his response to her transport suggestion.
Sharon nodded in agreement, when Numike came over andp ut her arms around her, she was scared and was watching as the lady startend to tend to the Doctor that was unconscious, now they knew why, with the javelin half that had been found. Numike took the sword from the lady.
"No," Saphira answered curtly, "not unless we get him to his medical bay immediately. I can't treat him here." She turned him back over, then swept him up in her strong arms. "Lead the way to that craft of yours," she told Wolf, not bothering at all with the courtesy of name and rank.
Sharon nodded and quietly whispered to Numike. "It will be ok, we need to get moving asap so she can save your father."
They moved quickly Sharon taking lead as they headed down the corridor, they took the lift down to the landing bay and exiteed meeting some of the marines, who were in wait, they held off when they saw them. Sharon lead them to the pod she piloted over and Numike did not want to let go as she tried to sit down at the controls.
"Numike, please go be with your father, once we are off you can rejoin me here." Sharon said.
Numike left, Sharon had to smile at her and quickly started the routine start up, once all was green they lifted off and headed out, they headed directly for the challenger.
"Shuttlepod one to Challenger, medical emnergency Doctopr Saryn and Captain Kirk are injured please have a team ready when we land." Sharon said. tapping the communications.

Post by Andrew Kirk on Dec 1, 2008 16:38:36 GMT
The hand-to-hand fighting was excruciating on Kirk’s injured body. The hole in his shoulder burned each time he swung his fist, more so when his fist connected against the body or skull of one of the many Vackall soldiers. Out of the corner of his eye he could see Saryn swinging his mighty blade, cutting and digging into the soldiers as they slowly pushed their ways through the on coming onslaught of guards.
Phase pistol fire brought hope to the Challenger’s Captain, as it was the sign that the MACOs had boarded the Rebel’s ship and soon they would be home. Looking past the front row of guards and soldiers Kirk saw Sharon Wolf leading a squad of aggressive looking MACOs. Each man and woman had a look of extreme determination on their faces, one that caused fear in the fighting Rebels, and extreme pride in the Challenger’s Captain.
“Captain!” Numike’s voice screamed but it was too late.
A Vackall Rebel had positioned himself behind Andy, and just as the Captain turned to find a new target to fight a knife was thrust into Kirk’s belly. Andy held the Vackall’s hand in place, preventing him from causing any more damage, which gave him time to look into the eyes of this Rebel fighter. His eyes were filled with rage, an emotion Kirk tried to duplicate even from the depths of pain he was currently feeling.
A single blade slashed the standoff Andy found himself fighting, which dropped the Vackall Rebel. Andy slipped and fell to the ground in the middle of the fight and crawled his way to a sidewall to rest against. Within seconds Numike had found her way to Andy’s side, “I’ll get help.”
Even though Andy knew it was better to leave the blade in his body, he ignored his training and yanked the blade out, tossing it aside, so he could use his hands to put pressure on the wound. His head felt light again, and he wasn’t sure when Sharon arrived to bring him to his feet but what he did realize was that he was running with the help of the MACO and the Vackall Priest.
The lightheadedness began to fade as his adrenaline started to pump again. He felt strong enough to not need more than one person to help him run along. Privately he felt the need to leave the Vackall ship under his own power with the MACOs present.
"Captain fancy meeting you here." James quipped.
“Likewise Colonel,” Andy replied, “How about we get out of here?”
The race back to the shuttle pod began, Andy with the help of the Vackall Priest ran as fast as they could with the military support of the MACO soldiers. Once in the shuttlepod the hatch was closed and the MACOs, with their Captain, Chief Medical officer, Numike, and one hitchhiker were off.
"Shuttlepod one to Challenger, medical emnergency Doctopr Saryn and Captain Kirk are injured please have a team ready when we land." Sharon said.
“Affirmative.” Jack’s voice break through the COMs.
“It’s good to hear your voice Jack.” Andy said.
“Likewise Captain.” Jack replied.

"Once they on board get us out of here immediately," Jack said as he rose from the center chair," I will be down in sickbay for the time being. We'll contact our new friends once Captain Kirk is ready to take command again, until then we will stay out of there way."
Jack knew that they had promised there allies many things and they were going to be honored, but at that point in time they needed to take care of their own. The Challenger, after days of hard work, was finally ready for battle. Jack was confident that the Challenger could go on its own for a while if it was necessary.
Even though his friends had gone into battle many times, Jack knew that this time it was entirely different. Andrew Kirk, his best friend, had been kidnapped and probably tortured by his captors and even though it wasn't his fault entirely, Jack Logan couldn't help but feel guilty. While Jack served the entire ship and her crew, his ties to Andy were the strongest.
"What happened to him?" Jack asked as he saw his friend placed on a bio bed. His uniform was torn and dried blood was everywhere, but Jack also noticed the fresh blood on his uniform. It didn't take long for him to figure out what his friend had done. "Andy you son of a gun, why did you take it out? You know that this could happen."
"Commander get away from the captain!" the attending nurse commanded who had just realized what was happening," he's injured and I don't need you telling him off."
"I know that, but he can be so stupid sometimes," Jack said as he looked at his friend again. Knowing that Andy would most likely not remember any of this, Jack stopped speaking and let the medical staff do there jobs," you can't die, we still have to watch the 2008 World Series. You bet on the Rays remember."
Immediately after mentioning the World Series, Jack broke down and began to cry. He was not only crying for the situation they were all in, but also because he had cheated and watched the 2008 World Series without Andy. Jack knew that he was going to win the bet.
"Commander what is wrong with you? Are you hurt?" the nurse asked worried that a grown man and the ship's highest ranking was crying in the middle of sickbay.
"It's nothing, just do your job," Jack said as he moved to one of the corners of sickbay and wait until he could speak to Saryn and Andy.

It all began in a blur of faint green and blue light fading almost to black before it seemed as if he was floating. Saryn had been conscious briefly, just long enough to know that Saphira had injected him with something just prior to his transfer to sickbay. Now, he felt as though he was about to lift off and fly away. His breath came in deep gasps and he shivered as though he was freezing.
Beside the bed, Numike watched as the alien woman stood over her father, right beside the attending nurse. She heard the beeps coming from the monitor overhead, but she didn't know what they meant. She could, however, see that he was cold as his skin had turned a very odd shade of green. “Commander!” she cried out, tugging Logan's sleeve to get his attention.
From far away, Saryn heard his name being called and sensed a kind of urgency. He wanted to return but he was facing the largest maze he had ever seen in his life and he was standing at the center of it. Fear took hold of him as he ran, right into the waiting maze. He searched for his sword, but it wasn't there. In fact, much to his own horror he realised he was dressed in nothing more than a long white robe, his feet were bare and his head was covered by a large hood which kept falling over his eyes.
Annoyed, he lowered the hood, only to find that it was raining and he was getting soaking wet. He gazed up into the black nothingness above him, letting the rain run down his face. Looking down, he could see that he was standing on nothing either, though he felt the cold run up through the bare soles of his feet. He found himself wondering where he was, and why he was here.
The Vulcan shivered again, more violently this time, as he followed the unseen path that led him deeper into the maze.
“He's slipping,” Saphira said, leaning over the still unconscious Vulcan. “He should've come to now, but it's not working...I don't understand.” She leaned over Kirk, who was lying on the next bed, then looked up at the attending nurse. “Are you sure the dosage was right for the de-” she cut off, closing her eyes. “For the doctor?” she corrected herself.
The nurse nodded. “I checked for allergies and there are no wheat components in there.” Quietly, she pulled an extra blanket over the Vulcan's body, tucking it in on both sides. She jumped back when he suddenly bolted up right, his eyes wide. “Doctor?” She caught him just in time as he slumped back, his eyes closed once more.
“Father!” Numike screamed, gripping his hand tightly between both her own hands. “He's cold,” she cried, “he looks funny.”
Saryn finally felt some ground beneath his feet, but he was still very cold. From within the darkness that surrounded him, he could still see his own breath come in white vapour. The green and blue still swirled behind him at dizzying speed and Saryn did his best to ignore it. Several times, he ran into the walls that seemed to shift before him, sending him sprawling. His robe was no longer white; it was smudged in several colours of which he didn't even want to know what they consisted of.
He needed to get out, and fast. He knelt down on one knee, pressing his hand to his side. He was gasping for breath and he felt as though his limbs were on fire. Tilting his head back he screamed like he had never screamed before. He screamed until he had no voice left and his throat had gone dry. This only reminded him of his aching thirst and hunger, but there was no nourishment here. There was nothing, just the maze through which he needed to find his way out.
After a very long time, Saryn finally entered the final path that would lead him to the outside. He was soaked to the bone, his skin having turned an odd shade of blue/green and he was shivering violently. By now, he was forcing himself forward, crawling on hands and knees, collapsing as soon as he entered the black void that was outside the maze.
Saryn's lifesignes leveled off as the drugs seemed to lose their effect on him. Saphira released her hold on his temples, smiling slightly. “He'll be all right,” she reported to the MACO who had walked up to her. “He's asleep now and he'll wake feeling a little more refreshed in a few hours. In the mean time, I suggest you get that little one of his away from here. She looks...dangerous.”
Numike did indeed look scary for she had turned very pale and had bared her fangs at the aliens, ready to pounce. The nurse pressed a hypospray against her throat, and the girl sighed in relief as she felt her urges to feed diminish. “I want to stay here,” she said, clinging to Wolf. “Please, let me stay with him?”

The pain was incredible, but it felt distant, as if it wasn’t happening to him. Voices spoke from the same distance, some of the familiar, others not at all. One voice stood out, however, and even with the enormous amount of pain Andrew’s unconscious mind was allowing him to deal with, he felt a smile crack on his face when Jack Logan mentioned baseball.
“You bet on the Rays remember?” Jack’s voice reverberated through the emptiness of Kirk’s semi-conscious mind.
Andy’s eyes opened which caught the attention of the head nurse, “Captain, stay calm.” She said as she moved for a hypospray to sedate her wounded captain. From the bed in sickbay Kirk saw Jack turn around after hearing the nurse’s voice. He had tears in his eyes, but in Andy’s state he had only one thing in mind.
At first the captain of the Challenger spoke in hushed tones that drew Jack instantly closer, “Commander, please.” The nurse started in on Jack, but Andy’s raised hand ended her protest.
“You won.” Kirk said trying to smile.
“What?” Jack replied confused.
Andy laughed despite the pain he felt with each deep breath he took, “I cheated. I checked the records and the Rays lost in the World Series. You won.” Andy finished by patting his friend’s arm.
“You’ll just have to make up for it in the 2009 season.” Jack joked.
“Captain, please. You need to save your strength.” The nurse interrupted. Personally Andy didn’t see how speaking a few words to his long time friend was going to drain him of the last of his personal reserves, but she was in the medical field, not him.
“It’s a deal.” Andy said pointing at Jack just as the nurse placed a hypospray to his neck. The whistle of the spray went nearly unnoticed before Andy felt his body drift into a deep sleep.
The next several hours were a blur and finally when Andy regained consciousness he felt even more tired than he had expected he would feel. It must be the sedative wearing off, Kirk thought as he gentle adjusted his body on the bed.
“Welcome back.” A pleasant voice said to his right.
When he turned he found somebody he hadn’t expected to see sitting next to him. It was Lieutenant Jamie Fairbanks, an engineer he had known from his days as the Challenger’s Chief Engineer. They had a flirtatious past, but when Andy was suddenly promoted to acting captain all informal communication abruptly stopped, a fact that Andy had long since regretted. He had longed to return to a more personal relationship with Jamie, but mission after mission pulled Andy that much farther down the road of responsibility and ultimately alienation from those under his command.
“Thanks.” Andy smiled as he let Jamie’s deep brown eyes captivate him.
“I was worried about you.” Jamie said, her hand sliding over the back of Andy’s hand.
Andy wanted to respond but they were interrupted when the doors to sickbay opened and standing in the doorway was the duty nurse, “I’ll stop by later.” Jamie’s tone was hushed as she removed her hand from his.
The two officers exchanged pleasantries as they passed each other, but as Jamie stopped at the door she took one last look at her injured captain before turning to leave. The nurse went about her business as if she had seen nothing, and Andy wasn’t about to answer questions that weren’t asked.
The nurse checked Kirk’s vitals and marked on her PDA in silence. Andy just sat back and let the nurse work, but all the while his mind was thinking about Jamie and the times they had before his promotion.
“She was here all night.” The nurse finally broke in nonchalantly.
“Excuse me?”
“Lieutenant Fairbanks,” The nurse answered, “She spent the entire night by your side.”
“Is that a fact?” Kirk said more as a statement then a question.
”Yes sir.”
The nurse finished up with her exam and walked away to attend to her other tasks. Besides Andy was the empty chair that Jamie had been sitting in. When he looked over he expected to see just an empty chair, but as he moved closer he saw a PDA resting on it’s side against he backing of the chair.
With the nurse otherwise occupied Kirk stretched out, straining against his wounds to reach the PDA. After a few quick gasps in pain he finally picked up the PDA and to his surprise he found a note on the main screen.
Andrew, it started. Andy always thought it was funny how she always called him Andrew and not Andy, I knew you would be going crazy in sickbay with nothing to do, so I decided to bring you the latest status report on our engines. I imagine this will keep you plenty busy.
Enjoy!
Jamie

Knowing that his best friend was going to be all right, Jack Logan allowed himself a few hours of peace and quiet. The peace and quiet that Jack was looking for could only be achieved by drinking a ice cold beer and watching the game. For that to happen, Jack decided to watch the entire season of the 2000 San Diego Chargers when they went one and fifteen. Jack couldn't believe how much pleasure he got from watching the Chargers loose so many games.
"It's a shame that they won that one game," Jack said before he realized that he was alone. The only thing that was missing was Andy. Deciding not to dwell on the current situation, Jack decided to pick up the PDA's next to his television. Every report had been downloaded to the thing and if he started now he would be able to finish before the morning was over.
"Commander Logan, you'll be pleased to know that Captain Kirk has finally awaken," the nurse reported.
"Thank you and make sure that he takes it easy for a while," Jack said," I bet he has a pda near him somewhere. You got to take it from him. If he fights you, tell him I told you so."
"Understood," the nurse replied with a slight groan.
"He's worse than me," Jack said as he began reading the reports.

Andy had been awake for several hours when he finally tried to stand. At first his stomach erupted in pain as he stood fully erect, but the initial pain quickly subsided. He figured that he could fight through the pain, just as long as he wasn’t bending over too much.
“Captain, what do you think you’re doing?” The head nurse scolded as Kirk zipped up a brand new duty uniform.
“Maybe you hadn’t noticed,” Andy said as he adjusted the new uniform, “but we are a long way from home, and I need to get back to the bridge.”
“If you think you’re just going to walk out of sickbay I’ll-“
“You’ll what?” Kirk interrupted, “Relieve me of command? C’mon.” Andy mocked the nurse as he gingerly walked to the door, avoiding hard painful steps.
The nurse knew the score. She also knew her captain was a stubborn man, one who wouldn’t give up so easily. Instead of fighting him, and the best chances they had for getting back home she decided to let him go, “Here,” she said holding out a cane, “use this to keep the pressure off your torso.”
“Thanks.” Andy said as he took the cane, “And can I have my old uniform?”
The nurse had a confused look on her face, “Sure.”
When she brought the uniform in she was surprised to see her captain removing only the rank pips from the shoulder portion of the uniform, “Admiral Gardner gave these to me personally.” Andy clarified his interest in the pips.
“Before you go captain,” The nurse said before she retrieved two bottles of pills, “take two of these every 6 hours,” She held out a white bottle for emphasis, “they are antibiotics, and two of these every 4 hours,” she said holding out a blue bottle, “these are pain killers.”
“My two best friends,” Andy joked, but the serious look on the nurses face showed him that she didn’t find it the least bit funny, “white bottle every six hours for infection, and the blue bottle every four hours for the pain. Gotcha.” His voice was serious to appease the over protective nurse.

Once onboard Challenger they made their way directly to sickbay, Sharon had to shutdown all power before leaving. She headed down the corridor and took the lift to sickbay, she entered as they were working on the Captain and the Doctor, she watched the alien lady helping the Doctor Numike came over and stayed close, when the lady finished she watched, the nurse had walked over and gave Numike a hypospray for what Sharon was not sure but once she did, Numike clung close to Sharon then spoke.
“I want to stay here,” she said, clinging to Wolf. “Please, let me stay with him?”
"Shhh Numike, I think it might be best that we leave your father to rest, he has been through a lot, why don't you come stay the night with me?" Sharon asked.
"No! I want to stay here with my father." She said placing her hands on her hips.
"Numike, you can't, he will be just fine go with the Commander..." The nurse said and was interrupted by the child
"No!!!! I will not leave my father." She said bearing her fangs.
Sharon was not going to let the child win this but wanted to be diplomatic about it, she also recognized the fangs, the little girl was a vampire. Sharon bent her knees and came down to Numikes level.
"I tell you what, if I promise to bring you back in the morning will you come with me?" Sharon asked.
Numike looked like she was going to argue some more then pouted. "Promise?"
That brought a smile to Sharons face and she nodded. "I promise."
Numike thought about it a moment and held out her hand. Sharon took it and nodded to the nurse as they left. They headed to her cabin and stopped at the door.
"Numike, I need a favor from you please. I have a cat named boots, I'm not sure how he will act towards you but please don't try to eat him or anything, hes my friend and stays with me at night. I have had him since he was a kitten, he was allowed to stay with me at the academy, my roommate loved him." Sharon said.
<Numike>
They started to go inside when numike spoke.
<Numike>
"I'm hungry to lets go to the messhall and get a bite to eat then we can return to my quarters for the night." Sharon suggested.
They left and headed to the messhall, it was fairly empty, they grabbes some food and ate.

Numike didn't really want to go with Sharon as she wanted to stay with her father, but the red-headed woman did have a point and she couldn't really stay in sickbay. Therefor, she followed Sharon out, but not after throwing a proper tantrum as she'd read many children - especially girls - her age were known to do. Of course, she'd never have dared if Saryn had been conscious.
Wrinkling her nose, Numike glanced up at her father's friend - at least she assumed the woman was a friend - then chuckled. "I don't eat anything ma'am," she answered quietly, "nor do I kill anything. At least...not on purpose."
The girl's eyes remained locked with Sharon's before the woman turned and led the way in. "What is a cat?" she then asked, quite careful as she didn't want to offend her. "I'm sorry, I'm not very knowledgeable...dad doesn't keep any pets or anything. So, I've never seen a cat."
"I'm hungry to lets go to the messhall and get a bite to eat then we can return to my quarters for the night." Sharon suggested.
The girl nodded solemnly, stiffling a yawn. "Sure," she answered, following her out of the room again. The cat hadn't shown itself, which she found somewhat disappointing. "I'm not really hungry anymore," she added, "I've had my medication, and I've eaten something while I was watching over dad." She wrinkled her nose again. "I don't trust the woman, you know the beautiful one with the silken voice. She's doing something to dad, I'm sure of it."
~meanwhile~ Sapphira sat beside the bed, watching over her 'patient'. He'd not regained consciousness again since they were transported to the quaint vessel. He would wake soon, within a few hours, she knew, but she was keeping him asleep for now. Smiling to herself, she let the knowledge she got from his memories play across her own senses. Yes, she had learned a great deal about this alien, this demon, but she had also learned from him, of that she had no doubt.
The priest, in the mean time, had followed Kirk out of sickbay, wanting to keep close watch on him. "Excuse me captain, may I accompany you?" he asked carefully, keeping a respectful distance. "I'd like to see more of your ship, if I may?"

James had the Bridge while the XO was in the medical bay checking on the CO. James was having more and more trouble sitting with the 8 inch piece of spear in his side. His armor had sealed the wound but it would have to come out sooner or later. But he would not leave his post until the XO or CO relieved him. Which he hopped would be before the last of his pain killers was expended.
Lt Towe the MACO XO entered sick bay and approached the XO. "Sir I have to report a problem; during the post action matiance on our armor I found 2 inch diameter hole in the side of Colonel James' armor and his med kit is missing, but he has not reported any injures. Right now he is on the bridge at Conn.

~2 days later~ Numike nudged the motionless Vulcan on the bed, not once but at least six times. "Dad come on," she urged, looking up at the Vackall woman who had not moved from his side. The woman's eyes were closed, as if she were in deep thought. By now, the girl knew better; Saphira was scanning her father's mind, learning. At least she no longer referred to him as a demon, which rather pleased Numike. "Wake up dad!"
Saryn didn't so much as stir, besides, with the restraints that still held him down he wouldn't have much room for movement. The first night he spent in the medical bay, he had suffered such nightmares that they'd left him thrashing on the bed. The nurses had deemed it safer to just strap him down, lest he accidently hurt himself even further. The wound on his back had started bleeding and it had taken them quite some time to stop it again.
Now, two days later, Numike noticed the ease with which he breathed, the peacefulness of his facial expression. He was no longer murmuring or screaming in alternation, though she had no doubt there would be marks of the restraints on his skin. Beside the bed, Saphira finally moved and rose gracefully to her feet. "Yes, we can wake him now," she offered gently, while removing the restraints. "Step back little one, this might distrub you a little."
During her "roams" of the Vulcan's mind, she had learned how to wake him from what she had learned to be a healing trance. She watched as the child obediently stepped back and flashed her an encouraging smile. Then, with all her might, she struck Saryn across his cheek. Not once, but several times in rapid succession. Numike screamed, but the nurses did not move in to stop her; in fact, they knew better. Saphira carried on until Saryn's hand snapped up and stalled her hand mid-motion. "Enough," he said as he opened his eyes.
In an instant, Numike was on the bed, hugging him tightly. For a moment, Saryn allowed it, albeit somewhat stiffly. "I'm so sorry," the girl wept, "I didn't mean to."
Saryn knew immediately what she was referring to, but he decided to let it slide. "It was not your fault," he soothed, while sitting up. He glanced up at Saphira, raising an eyebrow. When she mirrored his expression, he merely nodded. "Thank you," he said, setting Numike on the bed beside him, then rising smoothly. "I am heading for the bridge. Would you please take my daughter home?"
"It would be an honour, doctor Saryn," she answered, using his name for the first time. Saryn again nodded, changed into something more appropriate, then headed out, walking slowly as his muscles were still tender.
When he got to the bridge, he noticed Colonel James in command, but he saw no sign of the captain or even Commander Logan. At the tactical station, Sharon Wolf was stood. He inclined his head to her once, again in appreciation as she'd taken care of his daughter the past two days. "Where is Captain Kirk?" he asked quietly, as he approached James, "and where are we going?" He noticed they'd moved away from the lead Vackall vessel; it wasn't something his keep perception would miss.

Sharon ate while Numike sat, she could tell that Numike was worried about her father, Sharon considered her Father a friend, even though Vulcans were not to well liked by humans.
"Numike tell me about where you are from." Sharon said.
"My homeworld is called Miranda," the girl replied softly, "but challenger is my home now."
"I see, you are a vampire, I caught a glimpse of you bearing your fangs in sickbay, thats unusual for a planet to be full of vampires, a creature from lore that could not live in sunlight and drank blood to survive." Sharon said.
"I know about the myths," Numike replied, more fiercely than she intended, "and I'm no myth. I love the sun and while you call me vampire, it's not what we call ourselves. And we don't kill either." She paused, glaring angrily. "And we can't turn people either, that's not who we are."
They soon left after Sharon had finished eating, they went to her quarters, Boots walked out when he heard them both and hissed at Numike and ran back into the bedroom.
"I had a feeling that might happen, Numike, I will get you a pillow and a blanket, you can sleep on the couch." Sharon said.
Sharon looked and Numike had sat on the couch and layed her head against the arm rest and was already asleep, Sharon went in and got a blanket and a pillow for Numike, she put the pillow under her head and put the blanket over her, kissed her on the forehead and went to bed. Boots was on the bed eyeing her, he started purring when Sharon layed down on the bed.
"You are a silly boy you know." Sharon said.
The next morning after breakfast and both getting a shower, Sharon took Numike to sickbay as promised but had to leave her there so she could head to the bridge.
"Numike, I have to go on duty but I will see you later." Sharon said with a smile.
"Sure. I'm going to visit dad, see if he's awake yet. Bye Sharon.
Sharon left and headed to the bridge, Colonel James was on the bridge in the Captain's chair, she nodded to him and took a seat at tactical, she had been there for a few hours and looked up to see the Doctor walk in, he nodded to her.
"Welcome back Doctor." Sharon said.
Saryn inclined his head for a second time. "Thank you commander, I am pleased to be on duty again. And thank you for taking care of my daughter. She enjoyed spending time with you."

"Excuse me captain, may I accompany you?" he asked carefully, keeping a respectful distance. "I'd like to see more of your ship, if I may?"
Andy put all his weight on the cane that the nurse had given him in sickbay. He paused for a moment to consider the request, and despite his recent ordeal he couldn’t think of a reason why not to allow the helpful priest to accompany him, “Sure.” His reply came out more nonchalant than he had expected.
Andy waited for the priest to catch up with him before he proceeded to the lift that would take him to the bridge. His first step brought him just a slight bit of pain in his abdomen, but not enough that required him to alter the way he was walking. The priest was as perceptive as any priest Andy knew and before he could take another step he felt a hand under his arm, “May I?” The priest offered.
Kirk didn’t reply, he just smiled and allowed the priest to help him to the lift. The ride to the bridge was a silent one, which was fine by Andy, as he truly felt that no words were needed, especially with the warm aura that the priest seemed to exhibit.
“Captain on the bridge.” A junior office announced as Kirk hobbled off the lift.
“As you were.” Andy replied, this time he walked without the help of the priest. He knew it was important to his crew to see their captain walking under his own power.
Sitting at the center chair was Colonel James, with Saryn standing next to him. If Andy hadn’t known any better he could have sworn that Saryn was happy to see him, a feeling that was very mutual. Quietly, Kirk found himself thinking about how his feelings toward Vulcans had changed in the past several years, and he imagined that they would continue to change the longer he knew the good doctor.
“Report Colonel.” Kirk said as he approached the MACO soldier.
“Right here.” James replied as he handed over a PDA to Andy.
To Andy’s surprise not much had changed since Lieutenant Fairbanks had come to visit him in sickbay just a few days before. Engineering was running as efficiently as ever, even with Jack running the show down there. The duty rosters were current which was another pleasant surprise since the tasks were being taken care of by a MACO officer.
Perhaps more of my preconceptions are being broken down, Kirk thought as he eyed the through report. He was happy to see everything running smoothly, except they were still in a foreign galaxy with diminishing supplies.
“We are going to need supplies soon sir.” James seemed to read his mind.
“I agree,” Kirk said as he finished eying the report, “Have you had much luck brokering a deal with the Vickall?”

As the Co approached the center seat James stood slowly and stiffly.
"No sir the Vackall seem quite content to deal with Commander Logan, they seem to be a little skittish around me. But I have observed that if we really want any answers the priest is the one to talk to." As James moved to make way for the Co to take his seat the spear shaft shifted and pressed against James spine causing his legs to collapse. As James headed for the floor he thought this is going to hurt......

ooc: what am I,...air? what happened to my tags?
ic:
Saryn darted forward, catching the MACO just in time before his head could strike the deck. He had noticed the priest in Kirk's attendance but had pretended not to have. "You should have reported to sickbay immediately," he scolded James, from under his breath so no other would hear.
The Vulcan eased him to the deck, gently turning him over so he could examine the injury. He was suddenly aware of the priest - whose name they had yet to learn - at his side, holding James utterly frozen in place with strong and practiced ease.
"Thank you," Saryn spoke softly, as he pried James' uniform away. He shook his head in disbelief, but quickly remembered that he too had gone on fighting with a fair length of javelin embedded in his back. He had learned that for him, the javelin had actually missed both lungs but had struck his sternum. That of course did explain the faint throbbing in his chest, but he felt otherwise fine now.
"Two days," he hissed at the MACO, "you spent two days with this in your side? And never once you thought to go see a doctor?" He was both angry and impressed, though the awe was visible in his eyes. It was a rare occasion where his emotions were so plain to see in public. Of course, if it'd been him, Saryn would probably have done the same. After all, that brief mission where he had been placed in command as acting captain, he had gotten himself nearly killed.
The priest looked up in surprise, catching the fleeting memory unawares. He had known there was more to this doctor, his very bearing told him that much. "We should get him to your sickbay," he offered, still keeping James as immobile as possible. "We need to get that out, lest it injures him more."
Saryn nodded, while he rose to his feet and joined Kirk at his side. "He is in no condition to remain here, but I cannot risk moving him either," he said softly, "I know it is extremely dangerous, but I believe we need to risk teleporting him to sickbay from the bridge." He stared at Kirk intently, his eyes dark and unreadable for once. "I would not take the risk, if I did not believe it was worth it," he added quietly.
Kirk seemed to understand the graveness of the situation and nodded. Saryn returned the nod in understanding and returned to James' side. "Do not be concerned," he murmured, as he too braced James in place again. He felt himself dematerialise and felt utterly nauseous when he took shape again in sickbay. Nurses were on hand immediately with the necessary equipment to get James onto a bed.
A few hours later, the MACO was resting comfortably on one of the vacant beds. "How do you feel?" the Vulcan asked impassively, as he readjusted the flow of one of the IV-units that was attached to the MACO's arm. "Do you have sensation in your legs and feet?" he continued, probing the bare limbs with cold fingers. He folded one hand under his left calf, placing the other on top near the knee, carefully bending the leg. "Can you do this on your own?"
Once he was satisfied with the results and James' answers, Saryn walked to one of the communication units on the wall. "Sickbay to bridge. I am...pleased...to inform you that Colonel James will make a full recovery."

Andy watched in horror as the MACO commanding officer fell over without an apparent cause. Saryn moved swiftly and caught James before his body hit the deck causing more injuries. Behind him the priest had also rushed to Saryn's side, an in attempt to help out in any way he could. It seemed to be a universal instinct for all men of the cloth.
Teleportation was still something that was a bit of a taboo for normal means of travel, especially well inside the ship. There were far too many variables and what ifs to consider. Heaven knows that nobody wanted to be teleported half into a bulkhead, but in this case it was a necessary risk. In a matter of seconds both Saryn and Colonel James disappeared in a bright blue flash of light, leaving only a slight hint of blood where Saryn had been holding James.
The bridge was silent for a moment, "It's over, we need to get back to work." Andy ordered. He hated breaking the silence, but they were still in foreign space and surrounded by hostile aliens.
"Captain, the Commander of the Vackall Prime fleet is requesting an audience with you."
"I'll take it in my office." Andy replied.
"Aye sir."
Andy limped his way into his office and clicked his main monitor on. With in a few seconds the main screen flickered and the unfamiliar face of the Vackall commander suddenly filled the frame.
"Captain, it is good to see that you are well."
Andy looked down at his abdomen and the cane he was using to hold his own weight up before looking back at the Vackall commander, "I've been better." He said.
"I imagine so," The Vackall commander replied with a smug smile, "I thought you would like to know that we have yet to locate the anomaly that we use to transport ships across our space."
"Come again?" Andy couldn't believe his ears. If heard right it seemed that the Challenger was still lost in space. Something that he didn't like to hear, especially after the several ships from the future had been able to return home.
"I am truly sorry Captain. We will try harder."
"This brings up a bit of a problem," Kirk said as he let his frustration out in an audible exhale of breath, "We need supplies."
"We have spares that we can sell at a price."
Andy's expression was quite telling, "That is a problem for us. We don't use money in our society."
"I am sure there are items that you are willing to trade?"
"Perhaps. What are you looking for?" Andy asked.
"I'll send you a list."
The Vackall commander pushed a few buttons on his console and within seconds Andy's own computer station was beeping. He called up the list on a secondary monitor and noticed it was extensive, and more so it was nearly identical to the ships own supply list. A fact he found rather interesting.
"I'll have to get back to you about this list Commander." Andy said less enthusiastic than the Commander was hoping.
"Do be quick Captain."
Andy smiled a half-hearted smile before closing his COM channel. The items and the quantities were something that Andy knew off the top of his head were mostly required items that the ship couldn't do without, which caused him to wonder about the possibility of finding other people to trade with.

As James fell he was caught by strong arms, from the body heat Robert assumed it was the doctor. Hearing the doctor's questions the only reply he could come up with was; "The needs of the many out weigh the needs of the few......or the one." then as the darkness calmed James; he wondered where he had heard that thought before.
James awoke in a bed in the medical bay, with an iv in his arm and a very sore side. Experimentally Robert tried to move his legs and found he could but only a little. As the doctor bean to examine him James could feel the sedative wearing off and more sensations returning to his legs. As the doctor started moving his legs around James answered the doctors questions.
"Yes I can move them but I do not think my back is ready for a long hike with a pack yet. Doctor I have been meaning to talk to you about Vulcan and Vulcans. I spent several months there a few years back and the priests there said they placed mental blocks for my own good but I think some of them are breaking down. I keep getting flashes of another life another time and after our meeting with the ships from the Federation I am convinced that they are not dreams."
