'Secondly, I need to know that transporter is 99 per cent safe before I or one of my Marines step on it. Of course it can't be 100 per cent, but I wasn't signed up to this to be teleported into a rock or dispersed around the landscape by some sort of interference. Kirk, can you vouch for it, and can you guarantee on landing that we won't come under fire as soon as we're down? You can't fight out of a teleport like you can out of a shuttle'
Rickman hit the nail right on the head. Using the transporter was a dangerous option, but it did seem like the only option at this point.
"I can only say that the transporters have been successful on a number of occasions transporting people out of hostile situations. This transport should be one for the record books, nobody has..." Kirk cut his sentence off hoping not to heighten the tension in the room anymore, "What we can do is have the sensors monitor the life forms down on the planet's surface. This way we should be able to transport into an area without being noticed."
The meeting continued with Captain Rickman asking Captain Adams more information about the possible transporter site. It made Kirk feel better that the MACO were doing everything in their power to ensure a safe extraction of information. To Kirk the MACO always had seemed to just be a bunch of trigger happy men who only cared about killing. Kirk's opinion of the MACO had instantly been changed by the show of concern for the MACO soldiers as well as the Starfleet officers.
Everyone had said there piece and walked out of the bridge very quietly. They were getting mentally prepared for what they were about to do.
"Andy you ready to do this?" Jack asked trying to calm his nerves.
"As ready as I can be." Kirk replied looking around the room to make sure nobody else was around, "Jack, nobody has tried to transport this many people at once. There is a chance the computer might not be able to handle the load."
Running head long into danger wasn't something that Kirk intended to do everyday, and he had to admit that he had always thought of combat with a romantic flare. Now being faced with a possible life and death situation he suddenly lost those thoughts about glorified battle.

Rickman turned up in the transporter room with Boris Ericson, the first fire team's heavy weapon handler. Rickman was carrying two MACO guns; one was his, one slung over his back was Ericson's. Ericson himself was carrying a GPMG and it was an impressive weapon. Both had phase pistols for if any stunning was needed, but the MACO rifles had no real stun so there was no disadvantage to the GPMG. It was a psychological weapon as much as a good suppression weapon. The fizzing of the energy guns were small fries compared to the heavy rattling of Ericson's machine gun. Rickman had seen and heard them in action many times. When one started up the enemy had no desire but to find any good space and sit in it until the gun stopped. Since the people they were going to deal with now were ostensibly at the age of bullets only then it also gave them a weapon they could use without fear of discovery. Both MACO's were in the heavier body armour and were helmeted up. The Starfleet men were not and the defensive difference was obvious. 'If anyone wants some body armour then just say and I'll have some sent up' he said to them 'I'd suggest using light unless you're planning on joining any heavy fighting. Unfortunately the helmets are individual' <Anyone in the room>
Rickman could see Kirk and Logan didn't look happy at all. It looked like Kirk had just found out Logan had a mine on his back and had just told him, but a little less so. 'Are you two alright?' he asked 'Captain, I don't know what's going to happen down there, but if anything does, we will follow your orders' Logan said. Rickman smiled at this. At least in the worst case he could count on the Starfleeters to do what they could. But they were not soldiers and Rickman had no intention of using them as professional soldiers 'Thank you for that, Mr Logan. If anything goes truly wrong the order will be to retreat in good order. That's what Mr Ericson is for; we will provide the rearguard' Ericson saluted briefly and tapped his large gun.
Rickman went up to Saberwyn. 'When you're ready, Mr Saberwyn' was all he said, but friendly enough that Saberwyn wouldn't fear a MACO mutiny as soon as they set down. <Saberwyn>

“I have two. One is that I need another Marine with me. One Marine is not much good on his own. We are trained to fight in teams and that is how we are most effective. Two Marines are more than twice as good as one.” Said Rickman. Adams didn’t like this; he wanted to keep the landing party to a minimum, but now wasn't the time for an argument, and Rickman knew what he needed best. "Very well, Captain, you may have one MACO." said Adams. "Secondly, I need to know that transporter is 99 per cent safe before I or one of my Marines step on it. Of course it can't be 100 per cent, but I wasn't signed up to this to be teleported into a rock or dispersed around the landscape by some sort of interference. Kirk, can you vouch for it, and can you guarantee on landing that we won't come under fire as soon as we're down? You can't fight out of a teleport like you can out of a shuttle" "Transporters have been cleared for bio transport. We used them on Enterprise a bunch of times without any problems." said Adams, "As for being under fire, I'm hoping that this can be resolved without anyone seeing you, let alone firing on you." "Will we have a shuttle pick up when we're done or will we have to resort to the teleporter again?" asked Rickman. "You'll be transporting back up." Said Adams. "So I'm guessing that I'm to find a way to control the satellites from down there?" Asked Logan. "Yes." Nobody spoke anymore. "Well gentlemen, you have your orders." said Adams. They began to walk to the lift. "Mr Rickman..." called Adams. The others left in the lift while Rickman came back to Adams. Adams lowered his voice so only Rickman could hear. "I put Saberwyn in command because he's had a couple more years in the service than the other two. But I know I'm still sending three rookies down there. You're the most experienced man down there. Keep my men safe." <Rickman> He turned to leave again. "Captain," said Adams, "Avoid conflict at all costs." <Rickman> He left the bridge. OOC: Okay guys, try not to create any unresolvable situations down there.

After the lift doors closed Desuama turned to the other ensigns. "I didn't ask to lead this mission. I just thought of a way to extract the surveillance footage without causing damage," Desauma said as the lift headed toward the transporter room. When the lift stopped the group disembarked from the turbolift and headed down the corridor. Desauma hung back for a few seconds using his scanner to make sure the worm would interface with the planets communication system. He noticed the others were a bit too far ahead. He caught up to them in the transporter room. "If anyone wants some body armor then just say and I'll have some sent up" Captain Rickman said to the Starfleet ensigns "I'd suggest using light unless you're planning on joining any heavy fighting. Unfortunately the helmets are individual." "I concur with Captain Rickman. Phase pistols for us and the MACOs will get their heavy armaments," Desauma said as he headed over by the transporter chief. Desauma told him the co-ordinates and left the transporter room momentarily. The ensign came in with three phase pistols and caught the tail of a conversation between Rickman and Logan. "Captain, I don't know what's going to happen down there, but if anything does, we will follow your orders" he overheard Logan say. Oh great if anything goes wrong I'll have a mutiny on my hands Desauma thought as he saw Rickman smile at this. "Thank you for that, Mr Logan. If anything goes truly wrong the order will be to retreat in good order. That's what Mr Ericson is for; we will provide the rearguard" The second MACO saluted briefly and tapped his large gun. After Desuama handed the other two ensigns their phase pistols, Captain Rickman went up to Desauma. 'When you're ready, Mr Saberwyn," Rickman said in a way the dispelled Desauma's fear. "Let's go," Desauma said in a clear voice. The five stepped onto the transporter pad. "Energize" the ensign said when they had all taken position. The group re-materialized on the planet. "Well at least we are still in one piece," Desauma said trying to inject some levity into the group. [Tag: landing party]

'Mr Rickman...' called Adams.
Rickman recognised the tone of voice. This was 'unfortunate circumstance requiring unfortunate new approach'. He knew how difficult it would be for Adams to now ask the MACOs for help.
Adams lowered his voice so only Rickman could hear. 'I put Saberwyn in command because he's had a couple more years in the service than the other two. But I know I'm still sending three rookies down there. You're the most experienced man down there. Keep my men safe.' That explained why Saberwyn was in charge. It was after all an unfortunate fact that the only real way to earn experience was to have it and with more experienced people like Rickman and the MACOs around the danger was lessened. 'That's our job, Captain. We'll do all we can' Rickman nodded. He turned to leave 'Captain,' said Adams, 'Avoid conflict at all costs.' Rickman nodded again. 'I'll do what I can' he said
That was part of the reason for Ericson's gun. Not only did Rickman want to avoid conflict where possible, but he also wanted something that if necessary wouldn't give them away straight away to be alien.
After the transport, everyone was visibly uncomfortable. 'Well at least we are still in one piece,' Saberwyn volunteered. It sounded a bit nervous, but at least he was trying. 'Check weapons' Rickman ordered and looked at Saberwyn 'Military proceedure. We can't be sure the energy weapons will work after the teleport. The group took their weapon safeties off and shot them at the ground. Rickman and Ericson had slightly different pistols to the others. Theirs were newer MACO ones which were much the same but had a larger and easier to change battery pack so that the thing could be changed without opening the casing so the aim was not lost. They also had a trigger guard on the basis that there was more likely to be a point between the safety off and the thing being used for soldiers. Fortunately the transporters didn't cause problems for projectile weapons which was just as well since there was no way that the GMPG wouldn't be heard. 'Does anyone have any prior combat experience, weapon proficiencies or hidden weapons that I should know about?' Rickman asked <tag group>
'So, which way to the destination?' Rickman asked Saberwyn 'and how close do we need to go? We can't appear lugging these guns around and we can't safely leave them behind' <Saberwyn>

Adams was seated at the communications station, he had the earpiece on and was monitoring. He opened a channel with the landing party.
"Mr Saberwyn, did you all get down in one piece?" asked Adams.
<Saberwyn>
"So, which way to the destination?" Rickman asked, "and how close do we need to go? We can't appear lugging these guns around and we can't safely leave them behind."
Adams checked his panel, "By my readings, you have to travel 100 meters due north to get to the building. Don't let anyone see you."

Desauma was the first to speak up. "I have won several marksmanship awards when I was younger. I also was an Air Cadet up until I entered the academy," he said bashfully. The others spoke their proficiencies as the communicator chirrped. Desauma pulled out his communicator and flipped it open. =/\=Saberwyn here, go ahead Captain.=/\= =/\=Mr Saberwyn, did you all get down in one piece?=/\= =/\=Yes sir. "We are going to leap frog to this building, MACOs will lead the formation. When we get to our destination, Ensign Kirk will get us into the building. Ensign Logan I need you to provide me with a translation of their language so I can hack into their computer system. Any objections," Saberwyn said in his personal command voice. The landing party started leapfrogging their way to the main computer center. [Tag Kirk, Logan, Rickman.]

Rickman began the formation, stopping and holding position as the rest of the team moved by and then moving again to the front. The only exception was Ericson who moved always behind the team as their heavy support since his gun stopped him moving with as much agility. Rickman had given Ericson's MACO gun to Saberwyn due to his previous experience, but with the caveat that he was not to use it unless strictly necessary due to the lack of stun. After few rounds of leapfrogging through the local forest, the team met their first problem. It was an internally patrolled chain link fence. 'Well this is a problem' Rickman pointed out from the bushes as the group looked on at it. 'Are we going to attempt a direct assault or wait for nightfall and try to sneak in? Any assault would require the rest of the MACO squad before we stood a good chance. Does anyone have any good ideas that doesn't require a fight?' <Anyone>

"We want to avoid conflict if at all possible Captain Rickman. This looks similar to chain link fences back on earth, we could set the phase pistols on low power and cut the fence," Desauma sugested. He waited for a reply from the others. [Tag anyone] Once they were inside the building it didn't the ensign long to hack into their computer system. Desauma's scanner started beeping rapidly after he planted the worm. "Uh oh," he commented sounding worried. "'Uh oh' is never a good thing. What is 'uh oh'?" asked Ensign Kirk. "They have a major anti-hacker program to protect this system, it's shuting me out faster than I can compensate. I just didn't expect it I am trying to shut the program down now. I just...damn it" the science officer as his scanner flashed. The ensign dropped his scanner, he grabbed his communicator and flipped it open. "Saberwyn to Challenger," he said as picked up the scanner. [Captain Adams]

'We want to avoid conflict if at all possible Captain Rickman. This looks similar to chain link fences back on earth, we could set the phase pistols on low power and cut the fence,' Desauma sugested. He waited for a reply from the others. Rickman had just asked for an idea which would avoid a fight. However, Saberwyn appeared to have missed the real problem; Starfleet was often too reliant on the high tech option, which was a dangerous thing to do. 'Ensign, the fence itself is not a problem. I have a pair of wire cutters which will do the job without any noise or light and the method has worked for a few hundred years now. The problem is what has been done to the fence and what is behind it. This is a high risk target so the fence will be alarmed. There are also those patrols' Rickman pointed at the nearby guards 'who have a vested interest in keeping people like us out. So without calling down the rest of the Marines, this is the next best option. I use this wire' Rickman produced a long wire with crocodile clips at each end out of a pocket 'and connect two pieces of fence. Then I will cut a small way through the fence. When the two nearby guards come along, shoot to stun. With the nearby area clear, we will sneak in and disable the door locks with this electronic lock pick.' This time, Rickman produced a keypad device with two trailing leads, again with the crocodile clips. 'Captain, it was the phase pistol that originally caused the problems. We don't want to use them again if we can avoid it' Saberwyn objected. Of course, the point was valid but other methods were probably not what Adams would want. 'The only other silent methods are either a silenced rifle which we do not have or a garotte, which is just as fatal but messier. Stunning is the only option. Now the guards will have a regular report in time so Ericson will wait with the guards in the forest just outside the hole. He will stun anyone coming near and take them in too. As soon as anyone contacts the guards on their radios, he will alert us since it's likely 30 seconds afterwards we will have an alarm. We have an unknown time limit, so we can't afford delays. Mr Saberwyn, back to you'
So Rickman and the team placed, cut, stunned, sneaked, picked and crept their way into the compound. Eventually they were in the right room. It was fortunate that most of the building was automated and oddly did not contain any internal surveillance, or at least any that was obvious.
As Rickman watched the door as Saberwyn, Kirk and Logan hacked their way into the computer, he heard the 'uh-oh'. This wasn't good; at any minute Ericson's voice was going to come over Rickman's communicator followed by the dreaded claxon of danger. The Starfleet officers were not trained soldiers. Even ten enemies could spell the end for the team unless Ericson could work the secondary plan he and Rickman had discussed. Even though the Starfleeters had phase pistols, a bullet made you just as dead, if not more so. Teleporting out would not be an option under heavy fire, assuming the teleporters were even able to pick them up anyway.
'Kirk, don't forget we're under time here' he hissed to the engineer whilst Saberwyn spoke to Adams. <Kirk>

"Saberwyn to Challenger," he said as picked up the scanner.
"Move," Kirk said pushing his way toward the control pad as Saberwyn grabbed his communicator.
'Kirk, don't forget we're under time here' he hissed to the engineer whilst Saberwyn spoke to Adams.
"Like I need to be reminded of that." Kirk replied still looking down at the control pad.
The system was as alien to him as the Vulcan language, but it always seemed that no matter where you lived in the galaxy engineering a computer system always followed certain rules.
"Jack, I could use your help figuring out what these symbols mean." Kirk said as he quickly scrolled through several menus.

Jack had let Andy get to work, but it seemed as though he wasn't getting anywhere. It also didn't help that Captain Rickman was breathing down his throat.
"Jack, I could use your help figuring out what these symbols mean." Kirk said. Without any hesitation Jack made his way to where Andy had been working and began scrolling through the menus of information. Jack had already mastered the language, but he still couldn't break there anti-hacker program.
"Andy I will need five minutes," Jack said as he began to interface the console with his instruments. Jack quickly found the program, but all attempts to disable were quickly met with no results. It was a very smart program, and it might take Jack a bit longer to find a fault in its programming.
The solution immediately hit him, he didn't have to destroy the program, he could just add to the program. He immediately downloaded his own version of the system and it granted him access.
"Andy here you go," Jack said handing him his device," this will translate everything on the console to English."

"Andy here you go," Jack said handing him his device," this will translate everything on the console to English."
"Thanks." Kirk said taking the device from Jack.
The process began to go much more smoothly. It would only be a matter of minutes before the information they wanted was in their hands.
"Just a few more moments." Kirk said to the group, "Jack, hard wire that data disk into this drive."
Jack quickly inserted disk into the computer translator as Kirk had asked. In their rush to get down to the surface combined with the fears of using the transporters Kirk had forgotten to bring down spare transfer computers. Kirk shrugged his shoulders as the video transfered from the computer main core to the translator. There were times that being an engineer came in handy, especially when one makes a mistake.
"That should do it," Kirk said, "We just need to figure out a way to delete this file off their hard..." Kirk was stopped cold when suddenly red lights began to flash above the main terminal.
"Whats that?" Rickman quickly asked.
"Uh...I think the file transfer has tripped a passive alarm on the network." Kirk replied looking up at Rickman.
"Can you delete the file?" Rickman asked.
"I think I can...but it might take too much time." Kirk replied.

"Saberwyn to Challenger." came Desauma's voice through the comm.
"I'm on it." said Adams who had been monitoring through the uplink they had with the mainframe. His hands furiously working the communications console, Adams tried to do what Saberwyn could not on the surface.
"There," said Adams, "I think I've bought you some time."
The three officers on the surface worked their hardest.
A few minutes later, Adams heard an alarm through the comm channel and saw the problem on his console. Security was being dispatched to their location, Adams did what he could to help.
"Landing party, this is Adams, security has been dispatched to your location. I've activated some fire supression contols in your area, it's brought down some doors that have effectively sealed you off, but I don't know how long it will hold them off. Andy delete the surveillance files now and Jack, get that English program off there as soon as his finished. I'm gonna transport you all out of there before the security reach your room."

"I'll do what I can sir." Kirk said loud enough to be picked up the communicator.
Kirk could feel the tension in the computer room. The guards were coming and their mission was far from completed. Before Kirk had left the Challenger he brought along a back up plan just in case anything should have gone wrong. He didn't want to use it because of the possibility that it might go wrong outside his control, but it might be the only way to get out alive.
"How is it looking Ensign?" Rickman impatiently said after a couple of minutes.
"I might have to go with Plan B sir." Kirk said as the sweat was dripping down his forehead.
"What's Plan B?" Jack quickly asked.
"Computer virus." Kirk replied still focused on the computer screen.

"Adams to Kirk, implant the virus, but don't activate it, I think I can link the computers up here with it, then we'd be able to delete the data from here."
A few moments later, the virus hand been implanted into the system, but, with any luck, it wouldn't cause any damage to their system. But Adams saw that the group were running out of time; the security personnel were almost upon them.
"Landing party, prepare for transport." said Adams, sending a signal to the transporter operator.
"We have them aboard sir." came the transporter operator's voice.
"Landing party, report to the bridge and let's finish this thing off." said Adams

"There," said Adams, "I think I've bought you some time." "Thank you captain. Let's get this job finished and go home," Desauma said with a bit of urgency in his voice. The ensign was anxious to get off this planet especially after a security alarm had been tripped. "Oh great this is just great," Desauma muttered under his breath as the other two tried to correct the problem. "Landing party, this is Adams, security has been dispatched to your location. I've activated some fire suppression controls in your area, it's brought down some doors that have effectively sealed you off, but I don't know how long it will hold them off. "What's Plan B?" Jack quickly asked. "Computer virus." came Kirk's voice. What the hell kind of Plan B is that, Desauma thought as Captain Adams responded "Adams to Kirk, implant the virus, but don't activate it, I think I can link the computers up here with it, then we'd be able to delete the data from here," Captain Adams replied. Things are quickly turning from bad to worse, the ensign thought as he picked up the loaned MACO gun. Within a few minutes the chief engineer had planted the virus. "Landing party, prepare for transport." said Adams. "Aye sir," Desauma said as he started gathering up his equipment. When the others were ready the science officer had the transporter chief energize. After they were back on the Challenger the Captain wanted them to report to the bridge. "We are on our way sir," Desauma said into the wall speaker. After the channel to the bridge was closed Desauma turned to regard the others. "Mr. Kirk I would like to speak with you for a moment. Ensign Logan please tell the captain that we will be up shortly," Ensign Saberwyn commented as they left the transporter room. Ensign Logan nodded and headed for the bridge with Captain Rickman. After they left, Desauma went off on Ensign Kirk. "I know you didn't approve of me being place in command of this landing party. Why did you feel it necessary to circumvent my authority when we were down on the planet?" he said in very firm tone that said how angry he was. He stood and waited for a reply.

"I know you didn't approve of me being place in command of this landing party. Why did you feel it necessary to circumvent my authority when we were down on the planet?" Saberwyn said
"My personal feelings toward you did not get in the way of the mission Ensign," Kirk said trying to make sure Saberwyn knew they stood on even ground, "I brought along a contingency plan, and that plan was my choice. Your mission was to lead us to the target and make sure we achieved our objective and came back alive. My mission was to make sure I did everything in my power to make sure my side of the objective was completed."
<Tag Saberwyn>
The decision to use the virus weighted heavy on the Chief Engineering. Earlier during the planning of the operation Kirk was heavily opposed to using a computer virus to delete the critical information they were after. Making sure the mission was completed often times meant doing things that were not ethical and wore hard on one moral core; this was one of those times for Kirk. He did not know the fall out that could happen because of his actions, nobody can take comfort in knowing that in the end it was the Captain's call to use the virus. Kirk just simply brought it along, at least that what he kept telling himself.

Jack knew things were about to get very busy, but almost instantly Jack felt his body being pulled away. He knew that he was being transported to the Challenger.
"Landing party, report to the bridge and let's finish this thing off." said Adams.
Jack didn't move for a second, he really hated being transported and feeling had not returned to his entire body.
"Jack come on the Captain is waiting for us," Andy said as he tugged at Jack's arm.
"Mr. Kirk I would like to speak with you for a moment. Ensign Logan please tell the captain that we will be up shortly," Ensign Saberwyn commented as they left the transporter room.
"Okay, will do that," Jack said as he looked at Andy and then at Desauma. He didn't like how he was talking to his friend, but he had to do some other things on the bridge.
Jack felt that he couldn't stall anymore and so he left the room and headed to the bridge. He just better remember that he's an Ensign too, Jack thought as the lift took him up to the bridge.
"Where are the others?" Captain Adams asked as Jack and Captain Rickman walked in.
"They will be up shortly," Jack said taking his station. He immediately hooked up his console with the planet's systems.
"Captain, they are trying to block our virus," Jack said surprised that they had figured it out so soon," if we don't deploy the virus now, they might be able to block it."
"How much probability?" Captain Adams asked.
"60 percent sir, you have to decide now," Jack said knowing that this decision would not be an easy one.
"Ensign do it, activate the virus," Captain Adams said as he sat down in his seat. Jack immediately deployed the virus.
"Sir the virus is on its way, if we are lucky it won't destroy a lot of important information," Jack said knowing that now everything depended on luck.
Once he had finished uploading the virus, Andy and Desauma walked in neither looking very pleased.
"Andy we activated the virus, we had too," Jack said knowing that the outcome of the virus would be very important to him. These people had not done anything wrong, they were protecting there planet and were unsure of the nature of the aliens.
"Sir we are getting back telemetry," Jack said as he started to read the reports from his sensors. The Challenger's sensors were still tied into the planets communications network.
"Sir all of there information about us has been destroyed," Jack said.
"What about there other networks were any of them effected?" Captain Adams asked.
"Yes, there entire communications network is down, the virus seems to be moving on to other networks," Jack said alarmed how fast the virus was moving.
"Ensign kill the feed, kill the virus," Captain Adams ordered looking at Andy.

It had been just a few minutes, but Jack knew the damage had been done. The planet's major systems were in shambles, but not all was lost.
"How bad is it?" Captain Adams asked looking up at Jack.
"Sir there emergency communications network is all down, there entire satellite network is off-line, and half of all power worldwide is not responding," Jack said," though I'm reading limited reports of emergency crews being assembled world wide."
Everyone went to work, the people down there had all but forgotten about the Challenger. They had other problems to deal with, but this would give the crew a chance to help while the Captain got orders from Headquarters.

"My personal feelings toward you did not get in the way of the mission Ensign. I brought along a contingency plan, and that plan was my choice. Your mission was to lead us to the target and make sure we achieved our objective and came back alive. My mission was to make sure I did everything in my power to make sure my side of the objective was completed." Desauma considered this for a moment and softened the tone of his voice. "I am glad to hear that. I was not meaning come down hard on you. The next time I would apreciate being in the loop. We had better get to the bridge," Desauma said as he started heading for the turbolift. Within a few minutes they were on the bridge.
"Andy we activated the virus, we had too," Ensign Logan said knowing that the outcome of the virus would be very important to him. These people had not done anything wrong, they were protecting there planet and were unsure of the nature of the aliens.
"Sir we are getting back telemetry," Logan said as he started to read the reports from his sensors. The Challenger's sensors were still tied into the planets communications network.
"Sir all of there information about us has been destroyed," Logan said.
"What about there other networks were any of them effected?" Captain Adams asked.
"Yes, there entire communications network is down, the virus seems to be moving on to other networks," Logan said alarmed how fast the virus was moving.
"Ensign kill the feed, kill the virus," Captain Adams ordered looking at Kirk.
It had been just a few minutes, but Logan knew the damage had been done. The planet's major systems were in shambles, but not all was lost.
"How bad is it?" Captain Adams asked looking up at the communications officer.
"Sir there emergency communications network is all down, there entire satellite network is off-line, and half of all power worldwide is not responding," he replied," though I'm reading limited reports of emergency crews being assembled world wide."
Everyone went to work, the people down there had all but forgotten about the Challenger. They had other problems to deal with, but this would give the crew a chance to help while the Captain got orders from Headquarters.
Desauma sat at his station going over sensor data on the damage caused by the virus. He noticed Ensign Logan shot him a disapproaving glance.

"I am glad to hear that. I was not meaning come down hard on you. The next time I would appreciate being in the loop. We had better get to the bridge," Desauma said.
Perhaps you should have been on the bridge when we discussed these plans earlier, Kirk thought to himself.
The two men quickly took the lift ride up to the bridge, it seemed that the confusion did not stop on the planet's surface but it some how found it's way to the bridge of the Challenger.
"Yes, there entire communications network is down, the virus seems to be moving on to other networks," Jack said.
"[word deleted]," Kirk said under his breath as he rushed to the nearest console.
"Ensign kill the feed, kill the virus," Captain Adams ordered looking at Andy.
"I'm already on it." Kirk replied.
Using the planet's own satellite system Kirk was able to transmit the deactivation code to the virus from the Challenger. The virus itself would remain dormant in the planet's vast communications system until a system could be built by the inhabitants of the planet to remove the virus.
This was everything Kirk feared; destruction beyond his control. No matter how perfect something looks on paper there was never any way to tell what the effects of an alien system would have on such a complex program such as the virus Kirk has placed into this planet's system. With in a matter of minutes it seemed the 'bleeding' had stopped, but the damage was clearly done.
"How bad is it?" Captain Adams asked looking up at Jack.
"Sir there emergency communications network is all down, there entire satellite network is off-line, and half of all power worldwide is not responding," Jack said," though I'm reading limited reports of emergency crews being assembled world wide."
Kirk felt the frustration growing with in him and he had to quickly step off the bridge. Walking into the nearest turbo lift Kirk waited for the doors to close.
"DAMN!" Kirk shouted just as he punched the wall of the turbo lift.
The sound of his voice couldn't be contained inside the small turbo lift. He knew the bridge crew members heard his outburst and the chance of a long talk with Captain Adams was almost assured. Looking down at his hand he saw the blood starting to drip from a now open wound. He could tell by the instant swelling and throbbing that he had also broken his hand, the adrenaline in his system had prevented the pain from setting in yet. Stepping off the turbo lift back onto the bridge Kirk noticed everybody looking his way.
"If you will excuse me I need to head down to see the doctor." Kirk simply said.
With out waiting for a response Kirk stepped back onto the lift and ordered it down a few decks. As he walked down the long corridor Kirk could feel the pain starting to set in, it was at that moment he felt ashamed of his childlike outburst.
Walking through the doors into sickbay Kirk noticed the instant change in lighting conditions. The ship's corridors were dimly lit when compared to the bright lights that sickbay had installed in them.
"What can I do for you Ensign?" Asked the doctor.
Holding out his hand Kirk simply said, "I think I broke my hand."
The doctor let out a quick laughed, "I would have to agree. Alright, lets have a look shall we." He said pointing to the near by bed.
"How did this happen?" The doctor asked as he gently held Kirk's hand.
"I uh..." Kirk started
"Ready?" The doctor said getting ready to set the bone.
Kirk nodded and started to finish his sentence, "I punched...AWW...DAMN that hurts."
"So you were saying you?" The doctor asked as if nothing had happened.
Kirk looked at the doctor with a confused look on his face. He found it to be an odd sensation to realize the doctor had no concern for how he felt, as if the pain wasn't really there, "I punched the turbo lift wall."
"Let's hope you didn't break anything or else the Chief Engineering might be very upset with you." The doctor said as he placed the cast on Kirk's hand.
"I am the Chief Engineer." Kirk replied.

As Jack reported this to the Captain he couldn't help, but feel worse for his friend. When he finished giving his reports Andy immediately left.
"DAMN!" Kirk shouted.
Jack winced and jumped a bit when he heard Andy's frustration spill out into the open. Everyone on the bridge pretended that it didn't happen and so after a moment of weird silence, Captain Adams began talking once more.
"Is there anything we can do for them, Mr. Logan?" Captain Adams asked looking at Jack. Jack for the first time saw frustration and a look of complete tiredness on the face of his captain.
"No...I recommend that we leave orbit and send our reports to HQ," Jack said knowing that this may give the Challenger a bad reputation.
The Captain didn't respond to Jack's response, he was already thinking about something else. Jack knew that he could not do anything right now and so he left the bridge and headed towards sickbay. He knew that Andy had broken his hand.

Challenger stayed in orbit for several more weeks and did manage to help restore the network through some ingenious creativity from the senior staff.
All in all, they didn't do any cultural damage and the technical damage that they had done was not permenant, however, it didn't exactly look excellent for the new Starship Challenger, or her Captain.
Adams had been in his ready room talking with Admiral Gardner for an hour. Gardner was not pleased. However, Starfleet didn't think that this was bad enough to end Challenger's mission, or, thankfully, to demote her Captain.
All eyes were on Adams as he stepped out of the ready room onto the bridge.
"Commander Benzin, you have the bridge. I'll be in my quarters." said Adams and proceeded to the lift on the other side of the bridge. He knew that his officers were hoping for more information, but he was too tired to care. He needed to relax.
OOC: Okay, let's tie things up now, this thread will be closing soon.
