Before Jack could even make out the people in front of him he was hit from behind. He immediately fell to the floor his eyes, head, and body shaking from the pain. His groans made there kidnappers laugh even harder, which enraged Jack even more.
"Why did you do that?" Adam asked pratically screaming in pain. Jack looked up and saw through his tears that Adam had been blindfolded. Jack was then quickly blindfolded and led somewhere else through the ship.
"Who are you and what is your mission in this space?" the man leading them asked Jack. He did not answer, he felt that giving him his name would seal his fate. "I said what is your name!"
Jack could feel the blood in his mouth, but he just spit it out. He slowly got up and repeated what he had been taught.
"Rank Lt Junior Grade, Serial Code number 2-3-5-7-5-3-1-0-7," Jack repeated.
Jack fell down to the floor again and was once again asked to tell them what they wanted to know. Jack couldn't understand why they were asking him this. If they could just transport two people from the Challenger like nothing, they surely had the information they needed.
"I already told you Rank Lt. Junior Grade.......," Jack repeated.
"This is going to be fun for me," another man said in the background.

Now the ship was back online, the MACO's were called to step down, but remain present in case of any more surprises. Soon enough, the Challenger was off at warp after the Orion vessel. Rickman wondered how the Challenger was meant to catch it since the Orions had the technological advantage, but he assumed the Starfleeters knew what they were doing. Possibly they hoped to catch them when they reached their destination or a stop point, either intentional or not. He supposed the main advantage would be that the Orions would not be expecting Challenger to be back together again so quickly, but Kirk's lot had spared no effort.
'Mr Rickman,' said Adams, 'prepare the MACOs for a rescue operation.' 'Yes, Captain', Rickman replied
He went around to each team, instructing them on the plan of action. This time, combat was guaranteed if they were to board the Orion ship. This would require all the Marines to be available for the initial assault. Since the shuttlepods strangely had no airlocks and could not dock with each other, the only option Rickman could see would be to divide the Marines into two groups, have one group in the first shuttlepod go in the Orion airlock first and clear the area, then have the second shuttlepod dock where the first had been. The great danger would be that they could not evacuate quickly in the event of failure or would have to rely on the transporters, assuming the Orions weren't clever enough to block them, which was unlikely. This would be the first time the Marines went into full action in the year they had been on Challenger and naturally things needed to be as good as they were going to be. It was time for the human weapons to show their worth over Vulcan inspired phasers and Orion weapons. The first team were equipped with two sorts of grenade; tear gas and flashbangs, the second and third teams with frag and stun. Of course, the teams also had gas masks and heat goggles; no point throwing gas around if it worked on you too. Normally the Marines didn't use it for shipboard combat because of the risk of it drifting in the closed corridors. But since they would begin at the disadvantage, it was worth it this time.
After the rounds, Rickman and Atkins went to the bridge. Atkins was going to stay in the shuttlepod and co-ordinate things when needed from there, since he wasn't wholly combat effective due to his leg. That led to the next thing. 'Captain, we're going to need both shuttlepods and pilots for each.' Rickman said to Adams 'We can't board using the teleporter; even if they're not blocking our signal they'll cut us to ribbons as we arrive. If one of the pods remains docked with the Orion ship, it might be possible to beam Starfleet backup into it for the Marines if needed.' Rickman wondered if Adams would have spotted the fact that saying that was much like requesting an immediate kick to the face of his squad's pride. But things being as they were, it had to be done. <Adams>

Once the Challenger had gone to warp speed and the Warp Core's warp field was looking stable he went up to the bridge to run shield tests with Saberwyn.
Everything depended on power and that was a fact that was as cold as death. Everybody dies. Everything needs energy to run and this ship that attacked them appeared to have an abundant amount of power to burn. Sensors never picked up where the attack had come from so that implied the use of a cloaking device, than the use of a ionic weapon...that's impossible, Kirk thought as he walked onto the bridge.
Saberwyn noticed Kirk's silence but did not say anything. When the elevator doors opened he quietly walked onto the bridge and lead the way to the science station. There he showed Kirk his plans and the tests of the shield system that was spreading through the the various ships and engineers like a wild fire. The creation of a energy field that surrounded the ship would be a vast tactical advantage over the other major races in the galaxy.
Stealth was the first great tactical advantage, but because of high energy output needed to cloak a ship it was impossible to run weapons systems at the same time. Technically anybody could run the two at the same time, given a big enough power system, but then the ship would then have a huge power signature and would render the cloak useless. The only draw back that Kirk could see was the amount of energy to be able to sustain a force field around the entire ship.
After reading Saberwyn's information he then logged into his personal folder and pulled up the data he had been collecting. Both his files and Saberwyn's were extensive and contained data collected from other peers around the fleet. Together they hoped to do something that no other ship had done before, create the first shield system to surround an entire ship.

OOC: Sorry for not posting for a while. My computer is on the fritz again. Kirk knew that the sensors would tell the bridge that the engines were back online but he still needed to report in, "Engineering to Bridge. Engines are back online, and the phase canon's capacitors should be fully charged with in the hour." Closing the COM channel Kirk looked down to Saberwyn and stepped down from them engine platform.
"How about those simulations." Kirk asked.
Desauma lead the way to the bridge with Kirk trailing. During the trip to the bridge , Desauma noticed Kirk had fallen silent. Probably lost in his own thoughts, Desauma thought as they exited the turbolift. Ensign Saberwyn led the way to his station, once there he brought up all the information he had about the shield system. In the file there were detailed schematics of Andorian and Vulcan shield systems, as well as reports from the chief science officers from numerous starships. After he uploaded his information, Andy uploaded the information he had. By the time the phase cannons were recharged, the two of them had input the new information into the standing simmulation. "There. I've input the deflector and warp reactor information into the warp bubble equation. It appears to be stable. If we can I'd like to set up an active shield model in one of the corridors," Desauma said in a cheerful voice. Andy nodded and moved away from the science station"Captian, I'd like your permission to seal off a corridor for a test on this upgraded shiled model?" Ensign Kirk asked as he moved to in front of the Captain's chair. "I know of Ensign Saberwyn's and your work on a shield for Starfleet vessels. I will clear a section on E-deck for this model. Use caution, with this war I don't want to have to replace two senior officers," Captain Adams replied with a bit of a smirk as Desauma quickly downloaded the information into a scanner and moved toward the turbolift. Ensign Kirk nodded and moved to the main turbolift to join his fellow officer [Tag: Kirk]

"What the hell do you want with us!" Jack screamed in frustration. The questions, beatings, torture were wearing down Jack's defenses. The fact that he was not allowed to see who was doing this to him made it that much worse.
He could taste the blood and sweat on his face, but he could do nothing about his current situation. The only good thing about this was the fact that Adam was not being harmed. Jack didn't know if he could remain silent if they did anything to harm the child.
"Look human, just tell us what we want to know and I will end this," a man in the distance said," I don't want to do this, but you are forcing my hand."
"You son of a.....," Jack said before he was hit once again in the face. The blood in his mouth gushed out making large droplet sounds when they hit the metallic floor.
Jack was expecting the men to say something, but nothing came. The silence was not comforting, but it did give him the chance to think of his current situation. There was no way that he could get himself and Adam out of this. His only hope laid with the Challenger and his friends. He had complete confidence in them, but he feared that if they didn't get him out of there soon, there would be no reason to come after them.

"They've entered the magnetic field of a planetoid, Captain." Said Saberwyn, "There's something odd about the planetoid; it's emitting some kind of energy field that's disrupting our sensors."
At last, it seemed that their pursuit could be at an end.
"Could be a trap." Offered Rickman.
"Agreed." Replied Adams. "Polarize the hull plating, all crew to battlestations."
"At last readings, they were moving to the other side of the planetoid, Captain." Said Benzin.
"Desauma, see if you can work with Andy to modify the sensors to help us detect them. Helm, move us closer in to the planetoid, Wolf, standby to help on tactical with Commander Benzin."

'They've entered the magnetic field of a planetoid, Captain' Saberwyn reported. 'There's something odd about the planetoid; it's emitting some kind of energy field that's disrupting our sensors.' Rickman wondered how that was odd. It seemed at times that half the things in the known galaxy threw the sensors off until they were adjusted to deal with it. Possibly Saberwyn meant the energy field itself was odd or not natural. If it was electro-magnetic then it was probably similar to the technology that had been used to disable the ship. 'Could be a trap' Rickman suggested based on this analysis Adams agreed and prepared the ship for combat. Someone was going to come out of this badly...
'Wolf, standby to help on tactical with Commander Benzin.' Rickman wasn't sure what he could do with starship tactics; the only ship ones he knew of were the naval ones which were basically to arrive as a fleet, break formation and try to pound the enemy into the water. Even so, he had some tactical savvy, so was prepared to try to help. He would also be able to tell from there what the best time would be if they needed to board. <Benzin if he's back yet>

After Desauma and Kirk had finished with the shield test they both returned to the bridge. Well that test was succesful Desauma thought as he sat at his station. A little while later his station began beeping. "They've entered the magnetic field of a planetoid, Captain." Said Saberwyn, "There's something odd about the planetoid; it's emitting some kind of energy field that's disrupting our sensors."

Andy didn't have time to respond as the ship shook violently.
"Report!" shouted Adams.
"A Romulan starship Captain, just disengaged their stealth technology!" Reported Benzin.
"Return fire!" Ordered Adams.
"Aye sir."
"Damage report!" said Adams.

"Damage report!" said Adams. "Minor damage to E deck," Kirk replied. "Prepare the photonic torpedoes," Adams said to Benzin. "Captain I have a better. We could implement our shield idea," Saberwyn commented from his station. "Desauma that shield is not ready to be used," Kirk blurted out. "It is our best chance for a surprise. It will work Andy. With your permission of course Captain?" Desauma asked.

Adams was wary of such a plan, but decided it could be to their advantage.
"Okay Desauma, do it, but only if it poses no risk to the ship." Said Adams as the ship shook once more.
He hoped that the sheild would work.

"Okay Desauma, do it, but only if it poses no risk to the ship." Said Adams as the ship shook once more. Desauma nodded and with Andy's help brought the modifications online. "We're ready captain," Desauma said with a bit of excitement in his voice. "Raise shields," Adams said to the engineer and science officer. They complied and the lights dimmed on the as the shield was raised. The romulan ship fired once more, but instead a blue bubble absorbed their weapons fire. About this time Atlantis and Enterprise arrived in orbit of the planet. "Commander Benzin cooridnate our attack with the tactical officers on both ships," Captain Adams said after Desauma informed him of the new arrivals. The romulans didn't stick around long after that. Adams visibly relaxed after the romulans withdrew. "Damage report," Adams asked as he stood from his chair.

"Sir, we're receiving a hail from Enterprise." Said the officer at communications.
"Put it onscreen." Ordered Adams.
"Looks like you've made a breakthrough, Captain." Said Archer.
"Yes, but our shields seem to have overloaded several systems throughout the ship, they're by no means perfect, but it's a start. Thanks for your help in driving them off, Captain." Replied Adams.
"No problem." Said Archer, smiling.
The screen then went back to an image of the Orion ship which had been disabled in the battle.
"Extend our thanks to Captain Vallance as well." Adams ordered the communications officer.
He then turned to Saberwyn.
"Desauma, I want you and Captain Rickman to get over to that Orion ship and get our people back." Said Adams.

After Adams talked to Captain Archer and then he turned to Saberwyn.
"Desauma, I want you and Captain Rickman to get over to that Orion ship and get our people back." Said Adams. "Aye sir," Desauma said as he nodded. Desauma turned to Rickman who as already headed for the turbolift. After a quick stop by the armoury, to get the science officer armed, they made it to the launch bay. All the ship's MACOs were waiting in the two shuttlepods. After Desauma was aboard they left Challenger and headed for the Orion ship. [Tag: Captain Rickman]

Rickman and the MACOs were armed with all possible weapons they could need and take. As well as their energy weapons they had the usual SMG backups for close quarter fighting and the larger GPMG's, two this time with the third fire team's heavy weapon being replaced by a sniper rifle in case the Orion ship featured long, straight corridors. Each man was equipped with one stun or smoke grenade and one frag grenade. Rickman had odd feelings about frag grenades. Their use was as necessary as any other weapon, but they seemed something of an evil weapon to him. Unlike what films showed, they did not feature large explosions which were the mark of concussion grenades. Instead they had a small explosion which sent small bits of twisted metal flying through the air at high velocity to mutilate and kill anyone nearby. Still, the Orions started this ruckus so they should be prepared for what came out of it. From what Rickman gathered, they used something like the Vulcan preferred method of fighting with small arms and rifles only. It seemed illogical to abandon the higher yield weapons, but just as the Geneva convention had outlawed chemical weapons he could see the Vulcans pushing to outlaw any weapon which could permanently injure without killing. After all, as a race they tended to be somewhat wussy.
The shuttlepods they were in had been worked on around the clock by engineers to convert the top hatch to a more practical inwardly opening one and to fit magentic clamps around the rim. Whilst having them open outwards saved space, it meant that it was impossible to force an entry out of it if the other side weren't willing to open their doors. Likewise, it was impossible to force a dock from the sides due to the shape of the pod and the outwardly opening doors. The pods clearly were not meant for this sort of thing and Rickman hoped they would be able to perform as needed. He also hoped the Orions wouldn't have their weapons back online at all soon. One shot would turn them all into an interesting splat on the side of the ship they were headed for.
Once Saberwyn was on board Rickman ordered the pods to proceed. They dropped out of the Challenger and crossed the void with little in the way of problems beyond the expected sluggishness of the exit manoeuvre. As the pods reached the Orion vessel they turned to present the top to the hull. A clanging noise announced the locks were in place and an airtight seal had been achieved with the larger vessel. The second pod did likewise next to the first. the gravity in the pod was turned off and the MACO's felt themselves start to float. The MACO nearest the hatch pulled it open and began to cut through the ship's hull with a high yield cutting torch. Soon he had traced a full circle inside the rim.
The cutter moved back from the new hole and the next man, Boris Ericson, moved forward. He pushed the plate inwards and it fell in the Orion ship's gravity to the floor with a loud clang. A second one announced the success of the other pod. Two stun grenades and two smoke grenades entered the soon to be conflict zone and detonated. Ideally they would have used the more barbaric frag grenades to terrify the Orions into capitulation, but the possibility they were using the hostages as human shields was high. Through the fog, the Orions still conscious began blind firing. Ericson couldn't see the shape of anyone not a child though his heat goggles, so he began firing his large weapon into the vicinity. The swift hail of bullets and noise which the rest of the MACO's on the shuttle had covered their ears for felled several Orions and put the rest to flight.
The landing area secured, the MACO's quickly poured into the room. 'Atkins, can you hear me?' Rickman asked of his second officer, stationed on the bridge of the Challenger watching the feeds from the MACO helmet cameras, the sensor data and radio transmissions sent via the shuttlepods. 'Reading loud and clear, Captain. You are on the port side. Turn left out of the room you are in and there should be a large corridor leading towards the fore. No hostiles within range' The range wasn't great; the Orions were blocking most sensors and the effective range of the rest was about 20 yards. They could see round corners, but that was all. The MACO's moved cautiously into the corridor. Fire team three stayed behind to guard the beachead and the other two teams, Sergeant Smith and Rickman moved forward. Their goggles soon picked up Orions behind a barricade some way up. They took firing positions and attempted to take them out using the range of the plasma weapons. Oddly the Orions weren't firing back, but clearly had something they were trying to set up. Rickman realised too late what it was and a sudden humming announced an EM pulse like the one which had disabled Challenger. The rifles went silent. The Orions clearly were not aware of the nature of the weapons they had first encountered. As they stood to fire, Ericson's GPMG laid down suppression fire. O'Rielly took one down with his long range sniper rifle. A few took bullets to the head and chest, the rest took cover. 'Khan, frag 'em' Rickman ordered. The champion thrower of the MACO's lobbed a perfect arc and the grenade touched down the other side of the barricade. A short explosion later and the way was clear. As they passed the debris of the barricade and the remains of the Orions, they could see the EMP machine up close. It was little more than a box with some lights and switches on, but that's all it needed to be. They left the grisly scene and moved on.
Several other small scenes like this took place on the way to the bridge. It was strange; the Orions were far from a coherent man to man fighting force and should have given up long ago. There must be something very important about Logan or the child to warrant such a futile defence. Possibly they were just stalling for time to allow some objective to be completed. Maybe they had information that had to be extracted at all costs?
Eventually they reached the closest line of defence to the bridge. Here they were barricaded with any and all weapons they could find. There were probably 30 Orions hiding behind various barriers.
Rickman radioed down to the shuttles. 'Team three, move to our location. Bring Saberwyn. Shuttles be ready to leave at the first sign of trouble.' It took less time for team three to reach them than it did for them to have reached the destination now that the resistance had been removed. Rickman couldn't see what Saberwyn's reaction to the various mutilated bodies had been since he was too far back. But then they needed him to help operate things on the ship; he couldn't be risked in a fight.
After a brief discussion of plans, the MACO's moved into action. First, various grenades were thrown at the barricade. Between the noise and smoke the enemy were thrown into confusion. Ericson and Atwood laid down suppression fire whilst the others moved closer. The task was harder in the confined quarters, but it was more about the noise than the actual bullets. O'Rielly scored a couple of Orions attempting to fire over the top of the back most barricades. Between the SMG's, the plasma rifles of the third team and the large weapons, the Orions were soon reduced to nothing. They quickly gathered the stunned ones into a pile which team three watched whilst the others moved on. A similar operation had been carried out by Corporal Grey back at the landing point and now one of the shuttles was stocked with unconsious Orions. Grey had no idea how they were meant to take all of the prisoners, the MACO's and the hostages back to Challenger, but he assumed they'd just stand on the prisoners or something.
The door to the bridge had been locked but it offered less resistance to the cutting torch than the hull. The MACO's piled into the bridge, weapons at the ready. The captain inside just surrendered. It was then that team three called to Rickman. 'Deal with the Orion captain' he said to Saberwyn
<Saberwyn>
Rickman left through the door of the bridge quickly. Then he saw what the others had. As the smoke had cleared, they had seen one of the dead Orions was in fact a human. The first MACO casualty in the year they had been on the Challenger.
Timothy Ryan, Private, 27 years old, human male. Born Delaware, New Jersey. KIA on board an Orion vessel.

"We've secured the ship sir." Came Rickman's voice over the comm.
Adams from his command chair said, "And what about our people?"
<Rickman/Saberwyn/Logan>
"Understood."
"Captain, I don't think we have enough space in the shuttlepod to transport all the prisoners and ourselves to Challenger." Said Rickman.
"We can make multiple trips Wolf, but I'll have Shuttlepod 2 come over to reduce the time it takes. Atlantis is also sending over shuttlepods to reduce overcrowding our brigs." Said Adams.

It had been a hellish week for Jack Logan. He had become a war veteran a long time ago, like everyone on the Challenger, but he was not prepared for the agonies of torture. His kidnappers were relentless in his torture. In two weeks Jack had lost thirty pounds, which gave him the appearance of a homeless person. The only thought that kept him alive was to keep Adam safe. There captors had yet to make a move on him, but Jack knew if he died Adam would take the same punishment he was currently experiencing. "Stop!" Adam screamed as he saw the Orion's beating Jack," stop hurting him, he doesn't know anything." "Stay quiet or we will do the same to you," the Orion yelled and continued to kick Jack. The only reason he stopped was becaused the ship jolted and sent him flying. Alarms went blazing, and Jack knew that this was his chance. "Adam follow me, we need to meet my friends," Jack said still hurting from the beating. "How do you know it's them?" Adam asked. "I just know, now come on," Jack said as he grabbed Adam and they went into the depths of the ship. They had close encounters with a team of Orions, but lucky for them Adam had the where-with-all to hide before they could tell they were there. It was until they reached the upper decks of the ship that they were discovered. "Stop, if you move I will....," the Orion said before he was shot down. Jack immediately turned to see what happened and was exstatic to see that it was a MACO. "Lt. Logan, please follow me," the MACO said. Jack was in no shape to disagree and followed him towards the bridge. As he reached the bridge he stopped to see Captain Rickman looking over a fallen MACO. "Captain, thank you," Jack said before he collapsed. <Tag Everyone> OOC: Just wanted to make it a bit interesting. Since we don't have a doctor, I don't know if Jack will survive

"Captain's starlog, supplemental. With the help of Atlantis and Enterprise, we have dispensed the Orions and their vessel at an Andorian outpost to be tried for their crimes. Meanwhile, we have arrived at Alpha Centauri where we will drop off our guest."
Shawn and Jack escorted Adam to the airlock where the shuttle from Alpha Centauri had docked.
"I hope you enjoyed the rest of the journey Adam, even if it didn't get off to a great start." Said Shawn.
"It was fun." Smiled Adam.
<Jack?>
Shawn opened the airlock and George Harper, the First Minister of Alpha Centauri stepped out, surrounded by aides. Immediately, the boy ran to him and the two hugged.
"I'm Shawn Adams, Captain of Challenger."
The minister shook his hand, "Captain, how can I ever thank you for returning my boy to me safely?"
"I could've done a better job of it," said Shawn, regret in his voice.
"You got him back, that's the important thing, and I thank you for it, Captain."
"This is Jack Logan, my communications officer, he kept Adam safe when they were being held captive."
Harper shook Jack's hand and said, "Thank you sir, I owe you as much."
<Jack>
"If you'd like to tour the ship sir..."
"Thank you Captain, but I'm afraid I must decline, these are troubled times as I'm sure I don't have to tell you, and I am unfortunately very busy. Another time."
Adams inclined his head and winked at Adam as they boarded the shuttle and the airlock closed.
Then, he tapped a companel, "Adams to bridge, take us back to our patrol route, Warp 4."
OOC: If you want to backpost, feel free, or you can just tie up the end of the mission, but this thread will be closing in a day or two.
