OOC: Okay, I've decided to start the new mission topic so that you guys have somewhere to post while I'm away. While I'm gone, just sim the in-between time, the aftermath of the battle etc. Don't make any drastic plot changes; I'll start the real juice of the mission when I get back at the end of next week. For now, just keep things ticking over until then.
Adams was in his ready room. He was tired, mentally and physically, he wanted to go to sleep, but he had half a dozen reports to finish off. They were on course for Earth, for repairs after the damage caused by the recent battle.
Most of the ships that had taken part in the battle had been sent to either Andoria, Vulcan or Coridan, but Starfleet wanted a face to face report on the battle, and as Challenger was the first Starfleet ship there, the honour was theirs.
Adams heard a chime at the door.
"Come in." Said Adams.
He looked up as a Vulcan female walked in. It was Beu-Pas, a Vulcan officer who had been on Challenger for several months now.
"Hello ensign." Said Adams, smiling at her. "I've called you here because I've decided to make you our new senior helmsman, if you'll accept the position..."
<Beu-Pas>
"Congratulations, ensign." Said Adams, shaking her hand.
Almost as soon as she had left, there was another chime at the door, again, it was a Vulcan, Commander Saryn.
"Ah, Commander, come in." Said Adams, smiling. "I wanted to let you know that I've received word from the Vulcan Space Agency, you've been officially transferred to Challenger now, so, welcome aboard."
<Saryn>
He shook Saryn's hand, who then left.
He went back to the report but after five minutes, he found that he just couldn't look at it anymore and decided to go and get some sleep.
He entered the bridge and said, wearily, "I'm going to go and get some sleep. If anyone needs me, I'll be in my quarters."
With that, he entered the elevator and went to get some much needed sleep.
OOC: Okay, I'll see you at the end of the week. Do a little character building while I'm gone!

Post by Andrew Kirk on Oct 22, 2006 5:36:13 GMT
Kirk walked out of sickbay with his arm still in a sling, a new medical sling but a sling none the less. The good doctor suggested using modern technology to heal the muscular tears around Kirk's shoulder but Kirk argued against using lasers to artificially hear his wounds. Let the body heal thyself, Kirk grumbled as he walked out of sickbay.
The young Chief Engineer walked the length of the ship mumbling and grumbling about the disadvantages of forcing the human body to heal. Kirk's defense was, Time heals all wounds. He knew this would not sit well with the doctor on duty but he didn't care. Kirk laughed to himself as he realized he would sooner or later be in to the Captain about this confrontation with the duty doctor.
Finally making his way down to the Engine Room, Kirk found a slight pleasure in working on the damaged systems. More than anything it took his mind off the sharp pains that shot from his shoulder, down his back and some how managed to reach his finger tips.
"Sir, you don't look too good." Commented a passing engineer.
Kirk grumbled as he passed the engineer, Who the hell is he to tell me how I look. While he walked the length of the engine room Kirk found everything to be in order, engineers were working the duty schedules he put forward, repair crews were making headway on the damaged systems, Order out of chaos, Kirk mused.
"Holy crap Andy you look like crap." Kirk heard from behind him. He know who it was without having to turn around.
"Thank you Jack." Kirk replied in a heavy sarcastic tone. He eventually turned around and sure enough he found himself face to face with his good friend Jack Logan, "What can I do for you Jack?"
Jack took a moment, it was clear to Kirk he had something important to say. Finally he let it out, "I just got the word from the doctor on duty. You're unfit for duty right now."
"Look Jack, I'm just supervising." Kirk said.
"Sorry Andy but I'll have to ask you to leave the engine room until you are cleared by T'Kara." Jack finished.
Kirk started to form an argument in his head but just as it reached his lips the only thing that came out was, "Yes sir." He knew there was no reason to argue this one out, especially in front of the entire engine room. Friendship aside, Jack still outranked him and above all the rank system had to be honored.
"If you will excuse me sir, I will be in my quarters." Kirk said still fuming on the inside.
Jack stepped aside and let Kirk pass. He could tell that his friend was upset and could understand why. Waiting a second Jack turned and watched as Kirk started to walk away, "Andy?"
Kirk heard Jack call his name and turned just enough to see Jack, "Yeah." He replied being heavily informal.
"I'm still coming over tonight for game two of the series right?" Jack asked.
Kirk chuckled, Jack always knew how to put Kirk at ease, "Yeah, say 1905. I still got beers in my cooler so you don't have to bring any."
"Good." Jack replied.
With that Kirk walked out of the Engine Room and headed straight for his quarters. He had a appeal to file with the Captain and he had to do it ASAP if he wanted to get back onto the duty schedule.

Saryn frowned as Shawn took the initiative to shake his hand. Certainly Captain Adams had read up on Vulcan policies regarding touching them? Like most Vulcans, he didn't like to be touched, especially not when he was one of the sort of Vulcan that was capable of performing mind-melds.
Yet he appreciated the gesture, and since he was doing his best to blend in and not be the odd man out, he didn't mention it. He vividly remembered the golden brew at a party before last mission, and he wanted to learn more human customs.
And to learn more, he figured the chief engineer would be the ideal person to help him out. And so he went in search for Andrew Kirk. "Commander Kirk, do you have a minute for me?" the Vulcan querried, standing with his hands clasped behind his back as he waited for the CEO to respond.
Saryn didn't miss the sling, and winced inwardly. He himself had only been recently released from sickbay after being severely injured on the battlefield. And he was still under orders not to get excited, as if he would excite himself at that. "Where would I go to learn more human customs?" he asked, his features revealing no emotion at all as he spoke.

The NX-03 Challenger had a roster of 85 Starfleet and MACO personal. That had been the number before their last mission, the number was now closer to 70. The lost of a crewmember was always hard, but the loss of so many was almost unbearable. There would always be the second guessing, but Jack knew he couldn't have done anything differently. It had fallen on the Captain and Major Rickman to inform the families of the dead, and Jack was glad that he was not in there shoes.
With both of them busy, that left Jack as the only senior officer that wasn't in sickbay or seriously injuried. He had recieved a few bumbs and bruises, but they wer not as serious as the others. Over twenty crewmembers were told to rest and not do any work, but of course they weren't listening. So it was up to Jack to hunt them down and make them get better. As Jack ordered them to their quarters he couldn't help but feel hypocritical. He firmly believed that he would also be working in this situation. The first nineteen went back easily, but he wasn't so sure about the last one.
He already knew where his best friend would be, he would bet his recent promotion on it. As he walked towards engineering he saw the damage that was done. The last few days he had been on the bridge since the begining of his shift to the end. As he opened the hatch to engineering he was surprised that the ship had even survivied. There was chaos everywhere, and Andy was in the middle of it all. As he saw his friend he wondered how close to death they had all been. Jack had of couse gone to check up on him in sickbay, but Andy had been out cold.
"Holy crap Andy you look like crap," Jack said trying to keep things lite.
"Thank you Jack." Kirk replied in a heavy sarcastic tone."What can I do for you Jack?"
Jack didn't look at him at first, he was sure that Andy knew what he was going to say. So he tried to find a way where Andy would blame protocal instead of him. "I just got the word from the doctor on duty. You're unfit for duty right now."
"Look Jack, I'm just supervising." Kirk said.
"Sorry Andy but I'll have to ask you to leave the engine room until you are cleared by T'Kara." Jack finished.
"Yes sir."
Jack knew Andy was furious, he had never ever called him sir. Jack was about to change his mind but realized that he couldnt' do that not even for his friend.
"If you will excuse me sir, I will be in my quarters." Kirk said still fuming on the inside.
"Andy?"
"Yeah." He replied being heavily informal.
"I'm still coming over tonight for game two of the series right?" Jack asked.
Kirk chuckled, Jack always knew how to put Kirk at ease, "Yeah, say 1905. I still got beers in my cooler so you don't have to bring any."
"Good." Jack replied trying to remember when they had seen the first game of the series. Jack waited for Andy to leave engineering and turned to his second. "If I find that he's been in here, I'll get both of you."
"Yes sir!"
Jack couldn't help but smile secretly as he left engineering. He would need to talk to the Captain and ask him to deny Andy's upcoming request. He at least needed two more days of rest and he would be sure that he got it. For now he would continue monitoring all repairs and file his report that would accompany the Captain's to Starfleet Command.

Kirk found himself walking slowly through the ship, his thoughts kept going back on the battle. He could feel the tension still holding strong on the crew. With each passing crew member he could see the fear of death in their eyes and he imagined that he too had the same look.
The war with the Romulans was growing more intense as each month fell off the calendar and as a direct result more lives were being lost over vast sections of unexplored space. As much as Kirk felt a strong firm hand was needed to establish Earth's presence on the Interstellar political arena the death toll was starting to wear on his resolve. Walk softly but carry a big stick, Kirk thought to himself, It should be rephrased to, Fly swiftly but carry a big phase cannon. Kirk laughed to himself as he finally arrived at his quarters.
Walking into the small quarters Kirk found a stack of reports that needed his attention. Kirk, looked outside his door to check if Jack was following him and of course he wasn't.
"I guess there is no harm in reading a few reports," Kirk said out loud, "They do need my immediate attention after all."
Picking up the first report Kirk flopped onto his bed and with his good arm held up the report so he could read it.
"Better this than sleep." Kirk said as he started in on the first report.

OOC: To make everyone's post fit. I'm going to backtrack a little bit and make it fit.
IC:
He had finally finished his report, which to be frank was one of the most difficult to do. The pain and anger of what happened only a few days ago was still fresh in his mind and it would take a long time for him to start healing. These thoughts angered him which was something that he didn't need at the moment. So he decided to check up on his friend. He decided to check where Andy was and to his dismay he was walking around the cooridor. It seemed that he had yet to make it to his quarters. Jack quickly made his way to the lift and if he had to drag Andy to his quarters to get some rest.
When he arrived at the appropiate deck he was ready to start screaming and yelling, but instead he heard Saryn ask Andy.
"Where would I go to learn more human customs?" he asked, his features revealing no emotion at all as he spoke. Jack was purplexed at the Vulcan's question, but he remembered that he had been formally stationed on Challenger. Since he would be here permantely it would be logical for him to understand human customs in greater detail.
Andy was about to respond when he saw Jack standing behind Saryn. This of course caused the Vulcun to turn around and see what had caught his attention.
"Hello Commander Saryn," Jack said," and by the way, if you want to learn about our customs just hang around us more often. It worked for Commander T'Pol and I'm sure it can work out for you to."
"If you want, you can join us watching a baseball game at 2000 hours," Jack offered," it's going to be our version of a party. Though even most humans would disagree."
<Tag Saryn>
"Now you get to your quarters or I will have to follow you there," Jack said to Andy, but without being able to keep a straight face. Jack almost sounded like his dad telling him to go to his room.
2000 hours
It had become public knowledge that two members of the senior staff loved sports, especially those that dated back to the 20th and 21st centries. Both Jack and Andy made it a habit to watch a game at least once a week and almost everytime it was baseball. They would bring beer, chips, wings (which was not possible anymore because of the war effort), and dip. It was a great time and was the only thing that they could do for fun together. Andy cannot see the value in hearing different languages for hours, but then again Jack cannot just sit and read engineering reports. Sports was a middle ground for both of them.
That's why it wasn't a surprise to see Jack walking towards Andy's room with some of personal stach of beer. Andy had informed him that there was plenty in his room, but Jack was hoping to get him drunk. When Jack arrived he was glad to see that there was already some beer in a modified chiller.
"I wonder if Saryn will join us?" Jack asked," and don't give me that face. If it wasn't for the Vulcan's you would be dead now. So your stupid problem with them needs to end."

OOC: Sorry again for missing your post Saryn. Please join us for our baseball chat later.
"Commander Kirk, do you have a minute for me?" the Vulcan querried, standing with his hands clasped behind his back as he waited for the CEO to respond.
Kirk was instantly taken out of deep thought when he finally realized he was being addressed. Looking up he found himself face to face with Commander Saryn. Kirk hoped the Vulcan hadn't noticed the sudden chance in his expression as he was never all that excited to speak with any Vulcans.
"Where would I go to learn more human customs?" he asked, his features revealing no emotion at all as he spoke.
Kirk was getting ready to speak when he noticed Jack had sliped in behind the Vulcan Commander, "Hello Commander Saryn," Jack said," and by the way, if you want to learn about our customs just hang around us more often. It worked for Commander T'Pol and I'm sure it can work out for you to. If you want, you can join us watching a baseball game at 2000 hours," Jack offered," it's going to be our version of a party. Though even most humans would disagree."
Kirk did the best he could to keep a smiling expression on his face but deep down he could feel his blood starting to boil. How dare he invite a Vulcan to Baseball night, Kirk thought. He could tell that Jack was picking up on his frustration but there was nothing he could do, the invitation was already on the table.
"Yeah, you should join us." Kirk said almost through his teeth.

OOC: Okay, I'm back and I'm going to start the main story of this mission. If you want to backpost the baseball event, please feel free.
"Captain's Starlog: November 5th, 2156. We have arrived at Earth. Challenger is currently in spacedock undergoing extensive repairs. My crew has performed admirably during the recent conflict, but now, several of them must go through stressful reports with Starfleet command. I am about to transport down to Starfleet command with my senior staff, a meeting I am not looking forward to. To tell the truth, we could all do with getting away for a while."
Adams ended the recording and headed for the transporter room.
Already present were T'Kara, Beu-Pas, Saberwyn, Kirk, Rickman, Saryn and Logan.
"Everybody ready?" Asked Adams, putting on a positive demeanor.
There was a mumbling of consent and everyone stepped onto the pad.
"Energize." Ordered Adams.
------------------------
Adams opened his eyes. What looked like blue energies were swirling around him. Adams spun round, there was no sign of his crew, but in the distance, a shape was moving. It was the shape of a man and it was coming towards him. As the man came close, he moved out of shadow and Adams could see his face, he knew this man. It took him a moment to realise that the man was "Daniels" a temporal agent who had made contact with the crew of Enterprise several times. Adams' heart sunk, wherever Daniels appeared, trouble normally followed.
Daniels spoke, "Captain Adams, my name is Daniels, I'm a temporal agent from the 31st Century."
"I know." Said Adams. This was pretty much true; when Adams had served on Enterprise, he was aware of Daniels' existence, even if he wasn't privy to the exact details of his encounters with Captain Archer.
"Good." Said Daniels, smiling. "Well, since the introductions are over, I'll be blunt. We need your help, Captain. A rogue element has arisen in the 20th Century."
"A rogue element?" Asked Adams.
"Yes, specifically, a person. A man from my time. He has travelled back in time and intends to destroy San Francisco."
"Why?" Asked Adams, taken aback by the abruptness of this statement.
"He's trying to cause as much damage to an organization that exists in my time, an important organization."
This stirred something in Adams' memory, something that Captain Archer had told him about his encounters with Daniels. Adams asked, "The Federation?"
"Ah," said Daniels, "I see you've been talking to Captain Archer. Well, yes, the Federation. You see, many key people in Federation history have ancestors in San Francisco. This man has travelled back to the year 1986. If he destroys San Francisco in this year, he will seriously damage the timeline."
"What does this have to do with me?" Asked Adams, knowing that he wasn't going to like the answer.
"I'm sending you and your landing party back to 1986 to stop him."
Adams groaned, "Why me?"
"Well, we thought that since you have experience of 1986 San Francisco, you'd be the ideal man for the job. Besides, if he destroys 1986 San Francisco, you're one of the people who is going to die, so we thought that might give you an extra motive to succeed."
Adams gasped, "You know I'm an..."
Daniels interrupted him, "El Aurian? Of course, I do, I'm from the future."
"Alright, who is this man, what species?"
"His name is Voretar, and he's human, more or less. He's going to plant a several explosive devices throughout the city. The coordinates of these have been entered into your scanner. You must disable any devices he plants and apprehend him. Once you've done this, I'll send you back to your time."
"But none the landing party have weapons!" Protested Adams.
"I'm sorry Captain, that can't be helped, don't worry, I'm sure you'll figure something out. You'll be there fore several days, so you'll need this," Daniels handed Adams some old Earth money, "you'll need to get clothes and accomodation."
Adams took the money and sighed. When he said he wanted to "get away for a while", this wasn't quite what he had meant.
"Oh, and one other thing, Captain," Said Daniels, "your crew aren't supposed to find out your true identity, so stay out of the way of your 20th Century counterpart."
Adams nodded.
There was a bright flash and Adams found himself standing in an alleyway, accompanied by his command crew.
Squinting in the San Francisco sun, Jack said "This isn't Starfleet HQ."
Sighing, Adams began to explain...
OOC: I'll continue soon...

Once Adams had finished his story, everyone seemed flabbergasted, especially the Vulcans who had been brought up to believe that time travel was impossible. It certainly was an unbelievable story, but however unbelievable, it was the truth.
"Okay, first things first, we need clothes. Wolf, Andy, take this," He handed Kirk some of the money, "go and get us some native attire. You'd both better roll down the tops of your jumpsuits."
He thought the rank insignia and mission patches might be a little conspicuous.
"Jack, Saryn, take this," he handed them some more of the money, "Go and find us a place to stay, a hotel room, an appartment, you know what I mean."
"Captain," Saryn began, "are you sure I am the logical choice?"
Adams paused for a moment then ripped some material from his uniform. He tied the strip of cloth around Saryn's head so it made a headband that covered his eyebrows and ears.
Although his eyebrow was concealed, Adams was sure that Saryn was raising it.
"The rest of us will stay in this alleyway and use our scanners to try and find signs of the explosive devices. Meet back here when you've completed your tasks."

Saryn felt awkward with the bit of uniform tied around his head to conceal his ears. "Surely a hat is more practical?" he offered, "I am certain we can acquire one somewhere. Perhaps Commander Logan would be willing to obtain one, as he is obviously human."
He actually looked uncomfortable with the situation, as evidently they had traveled back in time. However this stroked against all his beliefs that time travel was virtually impossible. It was scientifically impossible.
"How did we end up in this era?" he finally asked. He was a tactician who knew how to work with children, he was hardly a scientist.

"Aye sir." Kirk replied as he took the several bills of money from Adams. He eyed the money for a second before turning his attention to Rickman, "It's been a long time since I have seen money like this."
While the duo walked away from the rest of the officers Kirk found himself awe struck by the time period. It was everything he had ever read about and more; the sites and smells captivated him like nothing else.
Kirk had not even notice the strange looks he was getting from the people who were passing him by as he looked skyward at the buildings and the architecture. Although his life was engineering, Kirk had always had a love affair with history.
"Wow, can you believe that we are actually here?" Kirk asked Rickman who was clearly looking at this situation with a tactical eye.
The two walked for sometime before they came to the top of a tall hill that over looked the bay. It was then that Kirk almost exploded with excitement.
"Oh my God...were are in San Francisco." Kirk said.

"Jack, Saryn, take this," he handed them some more of the money, "Go and find us a place to stay, a hotel room, an appartment, you know what I mean."
Jack couldn't believe that he was actually holding American currency. He had only seen it in a museum, but even then it was a replica of the real thing. For some odd reason he felt the urge to smell the money, but he of course held back.
"Surely a hat is more practical?" he offered, "I am certain we can acquire one somewhere. Perhaps Commander Logan would be willing to obtain one, as he is obviously human."
"Saryn, you look very fashionable," Jack said smiling trying to ease the Vulcan," if you really do not feel comfortable I will go at it alone."
"How did we end up in this era?" he finally asked. He was a tactician who knew how to work with children, he was hardly a scientist.
"Saryn trust me if we knew we would explain it to you," Jack said as he walked out of the alley and into the streets of San Fransico. He still couldn't believe that he was smelling the exhaust of an automobile or the smell of the bay blowing downwind.
"Buy the Chronicle, only 20 cents, buy the San Fransisco Chronicle!" a boy selling newspaper was screaming from the corner. He couldn't help but smile at the site, a real paperboy. Jack thought about it and decided that it would be best to talk to him.
"Buy the Chronicle, only......," the boy said before Jack tapped his shoulder. "What can I do for you, dude?"
"Dude?" Jack asked confused about the terminology.
"You know, 'Dude'," the boy said looking at him akwardly.
"Right, 'Dude'," Jack said trying to recover from the mistep. He would need to remember the vocabulary of this century. "Can you help me?"
"Yeah, but it's going to cost you," the boy smirked. Without thinking Jack handed him a bill which read 50. This caused the boy to squirm in delight, but he quickly recovered.
"I need to find a place for me and my coll...I mean friends," Jack said trying to sound normal.
"Is it just you and that dude?" the boy asked looking at Saryn.
"No, its for six of us," Jack said looking at the alley that they had come out of.
"Well just go down the street, turn left and go down three blocks," the boy said pointing down the street," a place called The Home Sack."
"Ok, thank you kid," Jack said as he walked onto the street, but immediately stopped when he heard loud noises coming towards. He saw a car coming directly at him and he was certain that it was going to hit him. Before he knew it he was being pushed back and a second later he was on the floor.
"Mister you need to be more careful," the boy said as he walked away and continued to sell his paper.
"Ready Saryn," Jack said as he wiped the sweat from his brow.

The Vulcan watched in astonishment as Logan was nearly run over by a car, but was saved by the newspaper boy. Once Logan seemed to have gathered his wits, Saryn nodded. "Ready," he answered, then nodded after the truck. "What was that monster?" He sniffed the air as though to make a point. "Pollutive, for certain. No wonder the Earth was on the brink of disaster before we made First Contact."
They walked through the streets of San Francisco, in search for a hotel room that would accomodate their group of six. Saryn pointed towards a huge many-windowed building that bore the name 'Hilton Hotel' on the front. "Would this be what we are searching for commander?" he querried, "or are we looking for something less fancy. This looks...expensive to say the least. And it would raise suspicion. Perhaps we should search for something less...visible?"

"What was that monster?" He sniffed the air as though to make a point. "Pollutive, for certain. No wonder the Earth was on the brink of disaster before we made First Contact."
"Well, Saryn that was a car, a 59 Chevrolet Impala if I'm not mistaken," Jack said surprised that he knew that information," and Earth had already lived through a disaster before we made first contact."
As he continued to walk around the streets of San Fransisco, Jack couldn't help but feel like a little kid trapped in a candy store. There were so many fantastic smells and sounds surrounding him that it almost overwhelmed him. It did dawn on him that to Saryn it might be very different.
"Would this be what we are searching for commander?" he querried, "or are we looking for something less fancy. This looks...expensive to say the least. And it would raise suspicion. Perhaps we should search for something less...visible?"
Jack didn't know what Saryn was talking about until he turned to face the enormous building. At the top he saw a big red 'H' with the word Hilton written below it. He clearly remembered that the Hilton hotel chain was a powerful company in the industry and that it cost a pretty penny to stay at there establishment.
"Your correct, Saryn, this is not suitable for our needs," Jack said as he continued walking down the street. After a few minutes of walking, both men reached a part of town that was very different from where they arrived. On the opposite side of the street a hobo was asking passersby for money. Jack also noticed that he was begging next to a vacancy sign, so after checking the street for cars, Jack made his way to the run down hotel.
"I think this will be perfect," Jack said waiting to hear Saryn's opinion.

Saryn glanced over the shabby looking building and frowned. "It certainly looks...inconspicuous," he answered, "I just wonder how clean it is. However it will suit our needs."
The Vulcan followed the human commander as they walked into the building. He couldn't help but fight down the urge to gag as a foul smell entered his nostrils. He felt instantly nauseous and grabbed hold of the counter to keep his balance. "This is...insane," he told Logan, who had slapped his hand onto a copper instrument that emitted an off-key ring.
A fat, middle aged woman approached, glancing them over none too kindly. "Whatcha want?" she snapped, while she sucked heavily on her sigar, blowing out a thick blue smoke, right into their faces.
Saryn's eyes watered as the smoke stung his eyes and airways and he coughed in response. He waited for Logan to take the lead, as he was a human and evidently in his element in this era. "I am going for a walk," he told Logan, casting him a meaninful glance. "I will meet you back outside in...ten minutes? We should go look for means of acquiring nutrition and find our...associates."

T'Kara looked around them disdainfully. The 'alleyway' was dark and dingy, despite it being daytime and she did not like it one bit. A ship full of humans was bad enough, but now she had to contend with an entire planet of these beings, the majority of whom did not know of her species existence. She sighed to herself, wondering how they managed to get themselves into these scrapes.
She raised an eyebrow at the sight of Saryn with the fetching headband and casually untied her long hair, glad that she had Vulcan robes rather than their uniform. She was reasonably sure that she could pass it off as eccentric, rather than other-worldly. However, she would have to wait until the others got back to see if they had bought her any human apparel.
Ignoring the sense of foreboding that she was unsuccessfully repressing, she got out her scanner. “Do we know anything about these…explosives…captain? Who is planting them? Are they Human? I’m afraid I can only assist in a limiting manner if the answer is no…”
<TAG Adams>
She took out the medical tricorder she had with her and opened it, scanning the area. Unfortunately, it was rather limited in its scope. In her frustration, she pushed her hair behind her ear, but with a glance from the Captain, she put it back again, hiding her ear. ~This is going to be difficult…~ She thought.

Kirk and Rickman walked for sometime before they both gave in and decided to ask for directions. spotting a young woman walking along the same side of the street as them Kirk cracked a cocky smile and approached the young lady.
"Excure me." Kirk said stepping in front of her.
"Yes?" She replied.
"Could you tell me and my friend where we might be able to...um...purchase clothing." Kirk said.
The young lady look at both Kirk and Rickman with a curious eye before pointing across the street to the local shoping mall. Kirk and Rickman both followed the young ladies arm and saw the massive shopping complex.
"Thank you." Kirk replied as he stepped ou tof her way.
The young lady smiled a curtious half hearted smile as she continued on her way.
"Alright, I think we need to just time this just right before we cross." Kirk said refering to the massive amount of traffic driving by.
Just as he was about to make his dash across the street Kirk felt a tapping on his shoulder, turning his head he saw Rickman pointing an area where there was a mass of people gathered.
"Maybe we should just follow that crowd." Rickman suggested.
Suddenly the traffic stopped and the mass of people began to cross the street. Both Kirk and Rickman hurried along, finally making it across the street before the traffic started up again. After a few more brief encounters with 20the century traffic customs Kirk and Rickman finally made it to the massive shopping complex, more effectiontly called 'The Mall' by the crowd they followed.
"Hold on," Kirk said to Rickman as he stopped along the side of the massive building, "We need to check everybodies sizes." Kirk finished as he pulled out his small PDA and called up the crew manifest. After a few minutes of study they entered 'The Mall'.
-------------------------ONE HOUR LATER-----------------------------------------
Kirk and Rickman managed to find their way back to the alleyway where the rest of the crew was still waiting. Both Rickman and Kirk's hands were full of different bags, they both resembled the best power shoppers of the day.
"Talk about an experience," Kirk said as he put the bags down on the ground, "Beats the hell out of reading a history book."
"We had the bags seperated for each person." Rickman said handing off each of the bags to the respective person.

"Whatcha want?" she snapped, while she sucked heavily on her sigar, blowing out a thick blue smoke, right into their faces.
The smoke made his eyes tear up and almost caused him to gag. How did generations of people smoke, he would never know. Jack waited for the large women to put the cigar down, but it soon became clear that was not going to happen.
"I am going for a walk," he told Logan, casting him a meaningful glance. "I will meet you back outside in...ten minutes? We should go look for means of acquiring nutrition and find our...associates."
"Your right, Saryn," Jack said as the Vulcan walked out.
"What kind of name is Saryn?" the women asked," sounds kind of funny to me."
"It's foreign," Jack responded wanting to end the conversation then and there. "I'm looking for some rooms for myself and my friends."
"Well I got two rooms free, its clean and has all the furnishings," the women said," it also has two beds and a couch."
"How much?" Jack asked hoping that he had enough.
"How long are you going to stay?" the women asked.
"I'm not sure just yet, but I'm thinking for at least two weeks," Jack said.
"Well if that is the case I'm going to charge you $100.00 a week, with a $50 deposit," the women said as she continued to smoke her cigar.
"Here is the deposit," Jack said only waiting for the room keys.
"Here you go, Room 132 and 131," the women said handing him the keys.
"Thank you," Jack said," could you tell me where I can find a supermarket?"
"Yeah, it's down the street, it's called "Jerry's Market"," the women said and went back to what she was doing. As Jack walked out of the hotel he tried to get rid of the smoke smell. He was pretty sure that humans knew that smoking was hazardous to ones health.
"Saryn are you okay?" Jack asked meeting up with the Vulcan once more.

"There is a market down the street, but I think its time we go back and meet up with the Captain," Jack said and waited for his opinion.

'Oh my God...we're in San Francisco.' Kirk exclaimed 'Yipee' came the less than enthused reply
Initially, Rickman had been somewhat surprised at Kirk's lack of experience with large numbers of traffic and people. However, after he thought about it, he realised that Kirk had grown up in post war America which had seen most of the private transport burnt off. In countries which had avoided the worst of the war such vehicles were still common mixed in with the local elites who could afford better, faster and more energy efficient ones. Possibly had Kirk been in India with the Marine corps Rickman had been in then he'd be more used to them. The Vulcans were from a planet that had probably not seen roads like this in millennia. They're going to die, Rickman thought.
'Are you lost too?' Kirk asked 'I know where we've come from' Rickman replied 'But I don't know where we're going' 'Let's ask'
The prospect of doing anything here was going to be a nightmare. Hopefully they weren't going to have to fight anyone because they were out of their element, in a small group unsound for guerilla tactics and unarmed.
Eventually the two had returned with their bags of clothes. Apparently this sort of thing used to go on all the time given the number of people similarly equipped with massive numbers of bags. Even in India the people hadn't carried so much shopping. Either it was just local custom or there was a time travel convention nearby.
Rickman had unavoidably ended up with a white and grey urban camouflage jacket and black trousers. He had kept his standard issue MACO boots. He noticed T'Kara looking at him as he handed her the bag. 'Do you ever stop, Major?' she asked

"Saryn are you okay?" Jack asked meeting up with the Vulcan once more.
The Vulcan tactical chief looked up at his Human companion. "Certainly," he answered, "once I got back into fresh air. Seriously, I do not understand how your culture survived, when your ancestors were rather adept at poisoning themselves like that."
"There is a market down the street, but I think its time we go back and meet up with the Captain," Jack said and waited for his opinion.
Saryn nodded and followed Jack back towards their fellow officers. Once they approached, the marine chief thrust a plastic bag into his arms, which Saryn clutched in reflex. Peering inside he found clothing that was almost his size, though much of it was just a tad too large. "I suppose we should change?" he offered, "Jack and I have arranged for lodging, but I recommend you hold your breath until we reach our rooms. The air is poison."
He walked away, this time taking more care with the traffic, but apparently not enough. He gasped in surprise as Jack grabbed him by the collar and yanked him back as a two-wheeled vehicle approached at high speed. The rider threw several curses at them, but did not stop to check whether they were all right. "Thank you commander," Saryn spoke softly, "it seems that I am more out of time than you all appear to be. On Vulcan..."
A glare from Adams silenced him, and he realised why; they could be overheard and arrested for no particular reason. A few meters ahead stood a uniformed police officer who cast suspicious glances their way. "We should hurry," Saryn proposed.

"Daniels said that they were 'more or less' human, so I guess the answer is yes. As for the explosives, he stored the signature in our scanners."
Adams consulted his scanner, "I'm not detecting any signs of it in this particular area."
The others shortly returned with clothes. Adams pulled on a pair of jeans, a white t-shirt and a leather jacket.
Saryn and Logan then returned with news of having found a place to stay, so they all began on their way over to the motel.
As Saryn and Jack stopped outside their new accomodation, Adams said, "Lovely place."
Seeing the looks of foreboding that were showing on his colleagues' faces, he chuckled.
"Well, we'd better make ourselves at home." He said, opening the door.

T'Kara looked disdainfully into the bag of her apparently new clothes and shuddered ever so slightly. Deciding to wait until they reached their new abode, she tried to keep in the middle of the group to lower the looks she would receive in her Vulcan clothes. Luckily, she had decided to wear relatively logical clothing and so it didn’t look too out of place but even so it made her feel slightly uneasy.
The others had changed in the alley, finding various places to hide and do so, but she didn’t like the idea of changing basically in front of a group of men she didn’t know too well, and on an alien planet where she was not at home. T’Kara was feeling slightly uneasy about the whole situation and decided it illogical to become so vulnerable in so public a place.
As Adams opened the door to their ‘home’ she raised her eyebrow higher than it had perhaps ever been before. They had mentioned that it was cheap, but at the quality of this place, she was astounded that the human race had survived so long.
She found the bathroom and locked herself in – regretting that decision immediately as she realised the shoddiness of the lock itself. She closed her eyes and thought of her logical homeworld, hoping it would give her some energy to survive here. She wiped the mirror and changed into the clothes she had been given. Looking into the streaky mirror, she glanced at herself critically: an ‘eyelet’ skirt apparently which was ankle length, and a ‘t-shirt’ with a cardigan. T’Kara felt rather exposed, as Vulcan clothing was traditionally larger than these, which had a tendency to cling; something she wasn’t comfortable with but knew it was intended as she had seen many women with similar clothes on. The sandals were interesting; she wasn’t used to seeing her toes whenever she looked at her feet.
T’Kara pulled her hair out of its confinement completely and tried to make sure it actually hid her ears. She suddenly felt rather self-conscious. Her eyebrows were traditionally Vulcan but now she looked at them and could tell that even without the ear problem, it was obvious that she wasn’t ‘one of them’.
After a few minutes of staring at herself in the mirror, she realised that this planet was having an effect on her. She shook her head and vowed to stick with Saryn. She needed to be with her own kind.
Struggling with the lock briefly, she opened the door and went outside to see the others, hoping that she didn't look too ridiculous...

Jack was never a shy person, but he felt rather uncomfortable changing in an alley in 1986 San Francisco. He decided not to think about it to much and quickly changed into a T-shirt, jeans, and some tennis shoes. Jack had to admit that it actually looked like some clothes in his closet. The only difference was that he would never own a shirt with a banana split in the middle of it.
"I look like a fool," Jack said which caused some to look his way and caused Andy to laugh. "I suppose you got this on purpose."

Jack wasn't surprised to see that both Vulcan crew members refused to change out in the open, which was to be expected. Vulcans respected privacy and so the group made its way toward the motel. Jack quickly found the rooms the foul women had assigned them and opened it up.
"How did we survive this century?" Jack asked as he looked at the state of the room. In the 22nd century it would be illegal for a prison to be this filthy, let alone a motel.
"Well, we'd better make ourselves at home." Captain Adams said opening the other room. Jack wished he could see the faces of T'Kara and Saryn, but he could probably guess. As they waited for everyone to finish changing Jack and Andy went outside to check out of the view.
"You do know that the Giants won the National League Western Division this year," Jack commented hoping that he could go visit Monster Park. He was about to say something else when T'Kara made her way out. She clearly was uncomfortable in the human clothes, but it would do.
"Captain what are going to do now?" Jack asked

Saryn glanced over at T'Kara, with whom he was sharing a room. As Vulcans were extremely private people, Saryn chose to remain in the hallway while the Vulcan doctor changed into her 'new' clothing. Once she appeared, he walked back into the room and peered into the plastic bag he'd been given.
Reaching in, he fished up a pair of black pants, black shirt, a cream pull-over and what seemed to him an odd form of headwear. He quickly changed into the new clothes, keeping to the boots he was already wearing then placed the cap on his head with the flap facing backwards. After that, he gazed at his reflection in the man-sized mirror, and nodded at himself in approval, even though he didn't think much of the cap.
When done, he rejoined his collegues, casting one final glance back into the clean room. The room was a vast contrast against the dirty and smudgy interior of the rest of the hotel. And, more importantly, it held two single beds, rather than one two-person bed.
Only then did Saryn realise he didn't know whether T'Kara was bonded, though he assumed she knew he was. Catching Logan's question as he approached he cleared his throat. "Who would we approach to know anything about timetravel?" he opted, "or advanced science and physics?"

"Captain what are going to do now?" Jack asked.
"Who would we approach to know anything about timetravel?" added Saryn, "or advanced science and physics?"
"Well," said Adams, we don't need to know anything about time travel; once we've completed our task, Daniels is going to get us out of here. At the moment, we've got to focus on getting the job done, but it's nearly dark now. Tomorrow, we'll divide into teams and search different sections of the city. For now though, we need to eat."
He and several other crew members had visited the supermarket earlier and now, it was time to prepare the food. Adams and several others set about making the evening meal.
