::Several hours, and many alcoholic samples later, Saryn finally made his way to his own quarters. He trusted the fact that his new senior staff would know that at 0800 a new shift would start. He would make it a point to call all senior staff to the briefingroom at 0900, if not only to see who would arrive sober and properly dressed.::
[Saryn] "Weytahn, now where have I heard this name before?"
::The Vulcan knew he was familiar with the name, but couldn't recall where he had learned of it. He studied his starcharts, wondering what to think of it all. He had no personal experience with Andorians, but was fully aware of the strained working relationship between Andorians and Vulcans.
After casting a final glance on the starcharts, he finally went to bed.::
Next morning, 0830 briefingroom
::Saryn had arrived early, taking his coffee and breakfast with him so that he would not waste any time. He pressed the button on his console, setting it to shipwide communication.::
[Saryn] "Senior staff report to briefingroom, mission debrief will start at 0900. Arriving late will not be tolerated and will have repercussions."
(tag all)
::While he waited for his staff to arrive, Saryn made certain that the Sorna was within communication's range and had the duty officer at communications establish a link between Challenger and the Andorian vessel.::
[Saryn] "Greetings Captain Sai'x, I am acting Captain Saryn, commanding officer of the USS Challenger. I am contacting you regarding a relief mission on Weytahn and as I am waiting for my senior staff to arrive for a briefing, I thought that perhaps we could get acquainted."
(tag Sai'x....played by Captain Adams)

Jack woke up with the biggest headache he had in many months. It seemed that Andy had a stash of beer in his quarters which he had shared with him. Jack had neglected to tell his friend that it was against regulation for one officer to have so much alcohol. Well that was before last night, both friends had spent a couple of hours sharing stories and drinking away.
Of course Jack was going to pay a price for the good time he had last night. He knew that there mission was going to start this morning, so he had no excuse to get drunk with Andy. Worse of all his tolerance for alcohol wasn't that good. The cold shower and coffee helped a little, but not much. His headache seemed to grow as he walked towards the lift.
In mid trip towards the bridge, he changed directions and headed towards sickbay. He wasn't surprised to see quite a few people waiting for Healer T'Kara to give them an inoculation.
"Could you please give me a rather large dose?" Jack asked not wanting Commander Saryn to know that he was hungover.
Tag T'Kara
His head was spinning, but he attributed to the inoculation that T'Kara had given him. He was so dizzy that at one point he required help from another crewmember from falling. Jack sat on the floor for a minute or two until his head stopped spinning.
"Thank you Ensign," Jack said to the crewmember," I am fine now."
"Are you sure, sir?" the ensign asked.
"Yes, just recovering from last night," Jack said as he successfully got up from the floor. Nothing else happened on his way to the bridge and when he walked in he saw the Commander talking to an Andorian. Jack checked the transmission and was pleasantly surprised to see that the Commander was speaking to her counterpart on the Sorna. It wasn't everyday that a Vulcan would willingly talk to an Andorian. The two worlds were now allies, but there were still hard feelings between the two worlds.
Jack decided not to pay attention to what the two were saying, knowing that it might undermine the Commander's command in the eyes of the Commander Sai'x. Interspecies relations were so difficult to understand sometimes and if Jack wanted to keep up he would need to know more about all the people Starfleet would be meeting along the way.
As his thoughts dragged on, the rest of the senior staff reported to the bridge and told Commander Saryn that they were ready when ever he was.

"Greetings Captain Sai'x, I am acting Captain Saryn, commanding officer of the starship Challenger. I am contacting you regarding a relief mission on Weytahn and as I am waiting for my senior staff to arrive for a briefing, I thought that perhaps we could get acquainted."
Well, he was more pleasant than most Vulcans, Sai'x was surprised to note, then again he was in command of a human ship, so maybe that explained it somewhat. Like most Andorians, Sai'x was wary of Vulcans, but the current situation had thrown them together, and as he was under orders from his superiors to cooperate with all members of the Coalition, he tried to be as gracious as possible.
"That would be...pleasant." Said Sai'x, unsure of what to say, "I am Commander My'Lek Sai'x of the warship Sorna. We are ready to get underway at Warp 4.5 when you are."

::Saryn gazed around at his now gathered crew.::
[Saryn] "We are ready as well captain. I shall conduct my mission briefing en route to Weytahn. We will rendezvous there. Challenger out."
::The image of the Andorian was replaced by an image of the planet.::
[Saryn] ::gazing at the science chief:: "Ensign Saberwyn, have you been able to uncover any information about this planet?"
::The Vulcan crossed glances with the CMO::
[Saryn] "Doctor I want you to prepare for a medical relief mission. We do not know what we may expect when we arrive, but co-ordinate your efforts with the medic of the Andorian vessel."
::Now he turned to the MACO commander::
[Saryn] ::also glancing at the chief engineer:: "Mister Rickman, your teams are to be on full alert, we may never know when we may suddenly have need of them. Kirk, please be certain our transporters are operating at peak efficiency, we do not wish our crewmembers to become displaced, or scrambled into nothing."
::Saryn glanced around, making eye contact with each senior staffmember.::
[Saryn] "Logan, keep a channel open with the Sorna at all times, and keep out an ear for distress signals coming from the planet. Sevik, when we arrive at Weytahn, park us in high orbit, so that we are in no danger from missiles that may possibly be launched from the surface. Legace, make certain the MACO's are properly armed and ready to go when needed. Any questions?"

"It isn't a question really," Jack said," but I'm worried about the Vulcan ships that were dispatched to meet us and the Sorna. I have repeatedly tried to contact them, but have not recieved any response or evidence that they recieved our transmission. It could just be that they have experienced some communications problem or there is a distorion somewhere, but it could also be much worse."
"What are you thinking, Commander?" Commander Saryn asked.
"The Vulcans were traveling through a very dangerous section of space," Jack reported," it is a possibility that they encountered Romulan patrols."
"Can our sensors reach that far?" Commander Saryn asked.
"I don't think so, but I could use Desauma's help with making our systems work a bit harder."
<Tag Desuama>
"Any other questions?" Commander Saryn asked.
"Again, not a question but I have recieved word that Captain Adams has reached his location and all is well on his end," Jack said noticing the looks he was getting from the rest of the senior staff. It was not his fault that he had a lot of information to give.

[Saryn] "That is good to hear ensign" ::he replied:: "any other questions?"
::When none were offered, Saryn adjourned the meeting and sent everyone back to their respective duties. However before the chief engineer could depart, the Vulcan tapped him on his shoulder.::
[Saryn] "Lieutenant, perhapst a next time it is advisable for you to limit your alcohol consumption. I will speak to Ensign Logan as well but I do appreciate my crew to be fully awake and attentive when I call a meeting. You seemed absent during the meeting and I doubt you have learned all you need to learn."
::He paused, then handed the chief engineer a PADD::
[Saryn] "This PADD contains a transcript of the meeting that I have recorded. Read it carefully. I will let this slide only once, and only because it was your captain departing for an unknown length of time."
::Saryn walked out of the briefingroom and approached Logan to give him the same speech. Then he contacted the Sorna again.::
[Saryn] "We shall meet you at the agreed co-ordinates. I propose radio silence until we get there. Challenger out."

Rickman looked at his uniform patch, now showing a bronze leaf instead of the silver bars. 'Congratulations, sir' Atkins commented 'Thank you, yet I can't help thinking they're trying to buy me off. Compensation for not being given a new marine' 'Maybe, but you'll forget about it at the party'
At the party, Rickman's marines did the best they could to do the corps proud. At one point, Rickman saw Ericson going against one of the engineers in a pint for pint contest. Fortunately the engineer fell first to the cheers of the gathered Marines. Rickman wondered if the ship's medical bay held headache pills. 'I hope we'll be combat ready tomorrow' he remarked to Atkins, who hit him round the back of the head. 'You're not on duty now for God's sake' he snapped 'Yeah' agreed Grey. 'Down that or we'll mutiny.' He pushed a pint towards the now Major.
At the briefing the next morning, Rickman managed to be on time, awake and alert. Not everyone managed the same. What he didn't admit to anyone is that he had woken up early and gone to the ship's doctor for himself and the men. Several boxes of painkillers were now residing in the Marine barracks. 'Mister Rickman, your teams are to be on full alert, we may never know when we may suddenly have need of them. Kirk, please be certain our transporters are operating at peak efficiency, we do not wish our crewmembers to become displaced, or scrambled into nothing.' Rickman's internal tactical alert siren went off. 'Commander Saryn, attacking from teleport is about the worst possible idea. We have no beachead to push off from, cannot teleport all at the same time and cannot defend outselves when beaming in. If they're watching the landing space we'll all end up fried.' 'What do you suggest then?' Saryn asked, noticing Rickman's odd habit of calling them teleporters, not transporters. 'As usual, we should go by shuttle. It's tried and tested and it works. That way the teleporters can also be used to clear the entry area by beaming in a batch of stun grenades.' <Saryn if you can be bothered to backpost. If not I'll just assume consent was given to use shuttles>
Rickman left the briefing and returned to the Marine barracks, well, the Marine large room. He found that Grey had woken the men up and was making each of them fit for duty in turn. Cold showers and painkillers basically, although he was being kind enough to not shout orders due to those who had done the most for the corps. 'Hopefully we won't have to prove ourselves again too soon, sir' Grey commented 'by the way, the men would like you to give this to the engineers' Grey handed him a piece of paper. On it was a large congratulations and commiserations signed by all the Marines and addressed to the engineering department. Rickman raised an eyebrow at Grey 'Congratulations for sticking it out so long, but commiserations for losing' he explained. 'No better luck next time?' 'Of course not, we don't want them winning, do we sir?' 'Of course not.'
Rickman took the letter to Kirk in the engine room and found the engineer not rushed off his feet, the engineering equivalent of 'not busy'. 'Message from the men' Rickman said, handing him the letter

OFF: Mr Rickman, any good CO knows when to backpost...now it may not have been a policy here on Challenger, but where I come from I always backpost when necessary. And as Saryn is acting captain, do please address him as captain?
ON: 'As usual, we should go by shuttle. It's tried and tested and it works. That way the teleporters can also be used to clear the entry area by beaming in a batch of stun grenades.'
::Saryn raised an eyebrow at the marine major. Certainly it was tested and it did work, but it was a considerable waste of time. In the time it took to launch a shuttlepod, several teams could have been beamed to the desired location.::
[Saryn] "No, we are using the transporters. We may not be given the time to launch the pods, and in the time it takes to travel we may have already beamed several teams down."
::Then it dawned on the Vulcan that perhaps the marine was afraid.::
[Saryn] "Tell me major, are you afraid of using the transporters? It is not an uncommon fear and it is nothing to be ashamed of. I do approve your stun grenade option, but we are using transporters to transport your marine teams and the security teams. Shuttles will be on stand-by should something go wrong."
::Saryn paused briefly, glancing at Kirk::
"Which it should not if Mister Kirk does his job properly."

Once the two ships arrived at Weytahn, Sai'x ordered a channel opened to Challenger.
"Captain Saryn, I have the information on where our forces will be needed most. Firstly, medical assistance is urgently needed in the central hospital, any medical officers and supplies you can assign will be needed there.
"Second, the main computer mainframe has been damaged in the attack. We need officers to help repair the computer and restore the communications network.
"Finally, some inhabitants are trapped under a great deal of rubble and debris just north of the settlement, we need strong men to help remove the debris and search for the survivors. Of course, any people you can spare to augment the Andorian security forces already stationed on the planet will also be appreciated."

Kirk walked onto the bridge rather chipper this morning despite how much the engineers decided to party.
“Kirk, please be certain our transporters are operating at peak efficiency, we do not wish our crewmembers to become displaced, or scrambled into nothing."
Kirk nodded to the Vulcan’s comments but said nothing. He knew the transporters were working. The meeting we off with out any more jabs in his direction, but Kirk felt a little hostility toward him from the Vulcan Commander.
Just as Kirk was leaving the bridge he felt a tap on his shoulder. Turning around he saw that it was Saryn.
"Lieutenant, perhaps a next time it is advisable for you to limit your alcohol consumption. I will speak to Ensign Logan as well but I do appreciate my crew to be fully awake and attentive when I call a meeting. You seemed absent during the meeting and I doubt you have learned all you need to learn." After finishing Saryn passed Kirk a data PADD.
“Perhaps.” Kirk replied with an annoyed tone as he took the data PADD form Commander Saryn.
"This PADD contains a transcript of the meeting that I have recorded. Read it carefully. I will let this slide only once, and only because it was your captain departing for an unknown length of time."
“Thanks,” Kirk said laying the sarcasm on hard, “I’ll be down in Engineering if you need me.”
OFF: Sorry I have been out of it. School bit me in the butt these past week.

Jack knew exactly what Commander Saryn was going to say to him, since he had overheard his conversation with Andy. He should of known that his little party would come and bite him in the butt, but it didn't matter. The crew had some downtime and were ready to get going again, that was all that mattered.
No sooner had he stopped these thoughts, Commander Saryn approached him and told him not to show up for a meeting with a hangover. He promised that he wouldn't and went back to work. It was only a few minutes when the Challenger was contacted by the Sorna.
"Captain, the Sorna is contacting us, Commander Sai'x wishes to speak to you," Jack reported.
"Put him on screen," Commander Saryn ordered which was done so immediately.
"Captain Saryn, I have the information on where our forces will be needed most......"
As the Andorian Commander explained the plan, Jack received the information on his console. He read the reports from the planet and saw that there were many casualties. The Andorians and Vulcans were working night and day to help out the survivors, but they still needed more help.
As he heard the Andorian's plan, Jack began working on making the appropriate list. He didn't think Commander Saryn would object to him doing this. As for the medical problem T'Kara and her medical team would be more than able to help out the injured. Andy and Jack could help fix the main computer and the communications system, they both did have experience repairing a world wide computer system. As for his other request he was sure that the crew would be more than happy to help, and Jack listed the crewmen that fit the description.
"Captain, this is a tentative list of what the Commander has asked of us," Jack said handing the Vulcan male the PADD," there will be a bit more tweaking, but I personally feel that these people perfectly fit what the Commander is asking for."

I do approve your stun grenade option, but we are using transporters to transport your marine teams and the security teams. Shuttles will be on stand-by should something go wrong.' Rickman saw the Vulcan shoot a look at Kirk. Was that a pointed glance from a Vulcan? Surely not! 'Which it should not if Mister Kirk does his job properly.' And sarcasm? Rickman hadn't had much contact with Vulcans before, but he had been led to believe they were very different from humans. Maybe not so much... Either way, he had a question to answer. 'I freely admit that I have not used a teleporter before and am less than happy about doing so under any circumstances. Despite this, if Mr Kirk were to say they'll work, I'd use one if the situation was practical. However, this transcends personal feelings. Even if the teleporters work fine, it takes several seconds to materialise'- Rickman shot an enquirig glance at Kirk, who nodded the truth of the statement and the fact Rickman had used the right term for the process- 'and in that time the teleporters are vulnerable. Even if the position is secure before the process, the men come out into a hostile situation surrounded and with no way out if the teleporter is disrupted, which seems oddly easy to do.' 'The time factor is still a consideration' Saryn pointed out 'True, but time and safety have to be weighed up. As a land force tactician, I cannot under any circumstances recommend a landing surrounded by hostiles on all sides. It happened all the time in Vietnam and lots of people died because of it. Also, we only have enough Marines to fill both shuttles. Once the shuttles are there, no further trips are needed. If more men are needed, we can establish a safe area around the landing zone or inside the shuttles for Starfleet security to teleport in.' 'And these are all your concerns?' 'They are. My men would agree with me as well. Whether or not to go ahead anyway is of course, your decision Commander-' 'Captain' Kirk murmured Rickman looked questioningly at Kirk 'The one in charge is always Captain' he provided helpfully 'Of course,' Rickman replied and turned back to Saryn 'It is your decision- Captain- but I would strongly recommend the course of action advised' <Saryn>

OOC: I'm sorry I'm so inactive, I still don't have proper internet access at the moment, so feel free to use my character as you wish.
IC:
The party had certainly been interesting, the 'drinking contest' was perhaps the most perplexing of all human pastimes T'Kara had so far witnessed. Now, however, she was sitting in the Briefing room and saw that some of the members of the group could most certinaly do with some medical attention. However, they seemed to be faring up quite well considering what she had witnessed last night. Briefly she wondered how such behaviour could be considered 'fun', but decided to give up such an illogical line of thought.
Scanning the room, she noticed Rickman looking somewhat worse for ware - unusual considering he had taken some paracetamol earlier. He looked at her in what she interpreted as a guilty fashion and he smiled weakly, as though the effort to move his facial muscles was causing him pain. T'Kara merely looked at him with a raised eyebrow. ~Humans...~ she though to herself.
The briefing was disturbingly similar to that onboard a Vulcan vessel. She wasn't exactly sure what she had expected, but was slighlty unnerved just the same. The level of profesionalism - especially given that half of them had what she believed was termed a "hangover" - was impressively high.
However, it seemed that her fellow Vulcan wasn't too impressed. He glanced over at her briefly and T'Kara realised that he was talking to her.
"Doctor I want you to prepare for a medical relief mission. We do not know what we may expect when we arrive, but co-ordinate your efforts with the medic of the Andorian vessel."
She nodded. "Of course" was her curt reply. She was not looking forward to working with the Andorians. They were notoriously self-righteous, and although the did not have the annoying stench Humans had, they were twice as repulsive to her. That, however, she would have to keep to herself.

[Saryn] "So noted Mister Rickman. However I stand by my decision. You and Doctor T'Kara will prepare to beam down in fifteen minutes. I will join you at the transporter. Lieutenant Kirk, do please make certain that the transporters are operating within normal parameters."
::Saryn nodded towards his officers then left the briefingroom to prepare for the landing party. He understood Desauma's concerns regarding the transporter, he wasn't too overly fond of them himself. In fact, he had an illogical fear of them but he was determined not to let anyone know. As using them was part of his current job, he would thus use them as needed...but with reluctance.
Several minutes later he sat in his private room, establishing contact with the Andorian captain and informed him of his plan to beam down in now ten minutes.::
[Saryn] "I shall meet you on the surface. I shall be accompanied by Doctor T'Kara and Lieutenant Rickman. Please be advised that we shall beam down first. My marine officer insists on beaming stun grenades down first to ensure our safety, and there has been no success on my part to talk him out of it"
::Somewhat later, Saryn arrived at the transporter, a phase pistol adorning his attire. He wasn't too happy at wearing a weapon but it was protocol to be armed with one and so he did. T'Kara and Rickman, as well as Kirk were already waiting for him. He raised an eyebrow at them as they were giving him the impression that he was late, where he was certain that he was quite on time.::
[Saryn] "Lieutenant Rickman, please beam down your stun grenades, then Lieutenant Kirk can beam us down. Lieutenant, whenever you are ready."
::Saryn glanced at the marine first, then sought eye contact with the chief engineer.
Once down on the planet, Saryn ordered his team to seek cover, while he looked for the Andorian captain.::

"Commander the away team is currently being transported down to the planet," Ensign Jackson reported from the science station," we have a permanet lock on there life signs."
"Okay, good," Jack responded from the command chair. It was no surprise to everyone that he was not happy to stay on the ship. Jack always went on away missions, but Commander Saryn had informed him that he wanted him on the bridge.
He was going to ask him to reconsider, but knew that he had protocol behind him. Sometimes he thought that Starfleet had to many rules, but who was he to question Admirals.
Jack felt that he was doing nothing just waiting there for something to happen, so he went to his station and checked things out in the system. There was clear evidence that there was high Romulan activity in the sector, but there was no way that the Challenger's sensors were powerful enough to actually find one of there cloaked ships.
These thoughts made him think of the Vulcan ships that had been sent to aid the Sorna and the Challenger. The Vulcan's had powerful sensor's and pretty good offensive capabilities. Still he was worried that he had not heard from them. Vulcan's were anything if not efficent and the fact that they had yet to contact them was not good.
The Atlantis and the recently repaired NX-04 Discovery were on there way. He had already contacted Captain Vallence and Captain Tsang to contact the Vulcans. If everything was like it was supposed to be the Vulcan's had only suffered communications trouble.
If like fate had been listening in on his thoughts, his communication station started beeping at him. He was surprised to see that it was Captain Tsang.
"Captain what can I do for you?" Jack asked.
"Commander, the Vulcans were attacked," Tsang said.
"Was it them?" Jack asked.
"Yes, though they were lucky, only one ship was destroyed," Tsang said," we will stay here until the injuried can be taken back to Vulcan. I'm afraid that we will be late in our arrival, but what's worse our sensors tell us that the Romulans are heading your way."
"How long do we have?" Jack asked.
"At most 23 hours," Tsang responded," the Vulcans and us will arive in 27 hours."
"How many?" Jack asked.
"Seven at least," Tsang responded," which doesn't take into account any other ships in your area."
"Understood, I will inform Captain Saryn and the Sorna," Jack responded.
"Of course, and Jack hold down the fort until we arrive," Tsang said and cut the link. Jack looked at the screen for a couple of more seconds and groaned. "Get me Commander Saryn"
=^=Commander Saryn, we have another problem=^=

'So noted Mister Rickman. However I stand by my decision. You and Doctor T'Kara will prepare to beam down in fifteen minutes. I will join you at the transporter. Lieutenant Kirk, do please make certain that the transporters are operating within normal parameters.' Rickman saluted smartly and left the room to confer with his men. Confer as usual in the military meaning that Rickman told them things and they listened to things. 'Alright, men, I have bad news and worse news and a small amount of good news.' When silence was as golden as it was going to be, Rickman went on. 'Bad news is that we're landing using the teleporter. So far there haven't been any accidents and if the engineers can hold their circuits like their drink then we shouldn't be too bad off. However, in the event that something does go wrong, our stalwart Lieutenant is under orders to shoot Saryn at the first opportunity.' There was a group chuckle of sheer defiance at the grim prospect of the teleporters. 'The worse news is that Saryn is as you all know a Vulcan. That means he won't be happy with our non standard equipment. Leave the larger items and keep the smaller ones hidden in packs. 'We'll be beaming down some stun grenades before the insertion, so hopefully the local area won't be hostile. That was the good news. Make the most of it. Sergeant Smith, take over.'
Rickman left the barracks and proceeded to his and Atkins' room. He picked up all the equipment he needed and started making his way to the medical bay. Three or four steps on, he turned back, went back into his room and swapped helmets so he was now using his, not Atkins'. True to form, Atkins was a soldier to the last. The man had three purple hearts and hadn't seen action in years due to his leg injury but had taken his fighting gear with him in case he was ever needed. The man had even agreed to accept the prospect of his near promotion being postponed indefinately to be assigned to Challenger on the off chance the small number of Marines there might need him.
Eventually, Rickman made it to the medical bay where T'Kara was arranging things into their logical place. Out of sheer devilment, he quietly swapped two labelled bottles over, then announced his presence. 'Doctor T'Kara, we're going to beam down soon. You'll beam down with the second fire team in the second teleport since you're our only medic. We can provide light body armour if you like' <T'Kara>
As Rickman and T'Kara walked to the transporter room, Rickman stopped at a wall communications panel and paged Smith. 'Sergeant Smith, we're going now' 'Yessir.' Came the barked reply, then quieter as if Smith had turned but not taken his finger off the button came the odd phrase 'Alright lads, it's hammer time!' Followed by a suitably enthusiastic mass grunt. Apparently Smith was better at morale than Rickman had already thought.
'Lieutenant Rickman, please beam down your stun grenades, then Lieutenant Kirk can beam us down. Lieutenant, whenever you are ready' 'Major, co-ah-captain' 'Pardon?' 'My rank is major, Atkins is my lieutenant. I lead the men, he helps us from the bridge since he's not fit for combat.' 'Of course' was the reply 'When you are ready, major' Rickman opened the satchel he was carrying and a group of stun grenades tumbled out, all stuck together in a ribbony line with the nearest thing to hand when he had packed them; duct tape. He pressed the set button on each one, stepped back and gave Kirk the nod. A shimmer and a noise like many mosquitoes in an iron shed in the distance announced their departure.
Rickman and Saryn stepped into the middle of the transporter and the first fire team took places around them, each one kneeling and weapons ready. Once they had performed the nauseating shimmery dance, Rickman opened a hand and pointed in both directions. Saryn performed the verbal command, making Rickman wonder if Vulcans had any way to communicate but to talk as the Marines ran in various directions to set up a perimeter and he and Saryn walked out of the teleport area. As soon as they were clear, the second and third fire teams beamed down surrounding T'Kara. Smith and two others were standing in a human shield around her, the rest were in the same ready positions as the first team had been. At Rickman's repeated signal the Marines and himself scattered into the bushes, Smith tugging T'Kara along, leaving only Saryn. Anyone who hadn't seen the process wouldn't even have been aware that 13 guns were ready to fire on anyone not friendly to the Vulcan cannon fodder. Rickman just hoped Saryn knew what he was doing.

::As it was, Saryn knew exactly what he was doing, up to when Logan called in from the bridge informing him they had a serious problem. Saryn raised an eyebrow to indicate mild annoyance over the breach of radio silence, then opened his communicator.::
[Saryn] "Deal with it commander. I have my own hands full down here and if I am not careful, you will no longer have a captain to lead you. You are in command at the moment, deal with it as you see fit."
::The Vulcan snapped his communicator shut and stuffed it away in one of the many pockets in his uniform. Despite orders to be armed, he himself at present was unarmed, having given his phase pistol temporarily to the marine major.
He stood in the middle of set perimiter, his hands in clear view as he awaited the arrival of the Andorian captain and his team. To do anything else may be interpreted as an act of violence or secrecy and that was something Saryn was hoping to avoid. He relied on the competence of the marine team to protect them, at least until they could provide the medical aid needed.
The Vulcan also relied on the fact that healers were very rarely harmed, in light of the old Earth 'red cross' symbolism. But for now, he had to wait for the Andorians, and hope that any hostiles would wait. Saryn knew they weren't alone, and that he was being watched, but even his keen senses couldn't tell what, who or from where they were being watched.::

Sai'x spotted the Vulcan and the humans. They had no doubt used their transportation device to get here quicker than his team. He nodded to two of his security men to follow him.
"Commander Saryn, I am Commander Sai'x. Your caution is wise but unwarranted, our patrols have searched the area, the Romulans are gone."
Just then, his communicator beeped, "Sorna to Sai'x, Commander, we have nine Romulan ships headed for our position. We have at maximum, 23 hours."
"Call all allied warships in range, we need assistance." Said Sai'x
"Yes sir."
"Well commander, it looks like we have a situation on our hands." He said to Saryn.
<Saryn>
"Your medics are needed in the medical centre over there," he said, indicating a large building, "Any assistance you can provide with repair or removing rubble would also be appreciated."

T’Kara, having little to do since Humans managed not to injure themselves all that frequently, was rearranging the medical bay into its more logical order. She was quietly sorting through the away team supplies. Suddenly she heard Major Rickman behind her.
'Doctor T'Kara, we're going to beam down soon. You'll beam down with the second fire team in the second teleport since you're our only medic. We can provide light body armour if you like'
Suspicious at his supposedly cheery disposition she arched an eyebrow. However, he seemed to interpret it as a response to his question so she decided to add on a verbal reply. “I’m sure there will be no need for that, Major. There are two ‘fire teams’ with myself and the Captain, I’m sure we will be in…safe hands”
He too arched an eyebrow, something which T’Kara noted with interest, and he led the way out of the medical bay. As she walked behind him, she noticed that two of the bottles were not in their correct positions. ~So that’s why he was so quiet…~ she thought to herself. Casually, she changed them back again and carried on after Rickman, wondering if she should have accepted the offer of armour afterall….
T’Kara had never used a transporter before, preferring to keep her molecules intact and travelling the old-fashioned way – shuttlecraft.
~*~
After the experience she had just had, she decided that her previous assumption was correct. Rickman did indeed seem to favour the dramatic, and the sheer amount of firepower now surrounding her did nothing to ease her uncertainty of the situation. However, she would just have to live with it.
The next thing she knew, T’Kara was being dragged along by…Smith…she thought was his name. The smell of the humans was getting worse; apparently they were anxious at the moment. She also didn’t appreciate being manhandled by someone she had only spoken to two minutes ago.
Silently, she tightened her grip on her medkit.

"Well commander, it looks like we have a situation on our hands." He said to Saryn.
::The Vulcan acting captain nodded solemnly, while he scouted the area.::
[Saryn] "It appears so. My communications officer only just informed me that the nearest Starfleet vessels are experiencing problems. Even at their fastest speed, they will arrive three hours late. Any other vessels are too far out of range be of any assistance to us. I am afraid that it is going to be just us for now captain."
::Saryn led the Andorians over to his own team for introductions.::
"Your medics are needed in the medical centre over there," Sai'x said, indicating a large building, "Any assistance you can provide with repair or removing rubble would also be appreciated."
[Saryn] "That is what we are here for."
::He motioned to half of the marine detail to assist with the repair and removal of rubble, then signaled the doctor to move over to the medical centre with her guard. He was not going to send her off on her own, even though he believed she was quite capable of defending herself if needed.::
[Saryn] "Major Rickman, please work with the Andorian detail to keep the perimeter safe. If and when these Romulans arrive, I want us to be prepared for them. Perhaps we may be able to trick them in being outgunned?"
::He turned back to the Andorian.::
[Saryn] "Perhaps we should do a little scouting on our own. We are likely targets, standing out here in the open."

~Vulcans, sometimes I just hate them~ Jack thought as he sat in the center seat. Things were getting bad to worse and there was nothing he could really do about it. There was any way that they could transport the away team back to the ship, the injuried needed there help. The only way to help right now was to speed up the process and hopefully his old friend could do that.
=^=Jack to Andy, please respond=^=

=^=I need you to assemble an away team to help out on the planet. I'm sure that you already know what is coming after us and we need to get out people back on the ship.=^=
<Tag Andy>
Jack wanted to hlep down on the planet, but protocol didn't allow it. He would have to rely on his friends and crewmates to do all they could before they arrived.
"Ensign how much time until the Romulan fleet arrives?" Jack asked knowing that not much time had passed since Captain Tsang had told him.
"23 hours and forty-five minutes sir," the ensign responded.
"Well then I want all tactical, armorary and MACO's left on the ship in the Conference ASAP," Jack ordered working with what he had at the moment.

"Commander, if the Romulans do get here, they will not send down teams to the surface, they will bombard the planet from orbit." Said Sai'x, "We have four warships in range, but we will still be outgunned. If we can get some of the planetary defences back online, we might stand a chance."

'Major Rickman, please work with the Andorian detail to keep the perimeter safe. If and when these Romulans arrive, I want us to be prepared for them. Perhaps we may be able to trick them in being outgunned?' 'We'll do what we can.' was Rickman's only reply as he began formulating what possible plans there were for a small team to hold out against so much greater power. Previously his experience had been with people who weren't using spaceships for their aerial advantage so this was partly a new one.
'Sergeant Smith, I want new teams made up; four Andorians to every two Marines, then what Andorians are left in teams of eight. Make sure the Andorians are armed with man to man weapons. We don't know what the Romulans look like or how strong they are, so orders are to fire on any unknown species unless someone can vouch for them. Form an outward perimeter with four mixed teams and eight Andorian teams. The rest inside the base; barricade and loophole as best you can. Carry on, sergeant' 'Yessir!' came the standardly loud reply 'Grey, call up Atkins and see if there's any chance of them sending down the heavier weapons. Also if there's any sign of anti-spaceship weapons on the planet that we can use'
As Logan was summoning the various tactical peoples to there conference room, Atkins went as the sole Marine left on the ship. 'Commander Logan, can we send resupplies down to the surface? The boys are going to be outgunned even with the Andorians.' <Logan>

Kirk was standing in the transporter room when he heard the COM system kick on, =^=Jack to Andy, please respond=^=
Pushing the talk button the the COM, Kirk replied, "Go ahead Jack."
=^=I need you to assemble an away team to help out on the planet. I'm sure that you already know what is coming after us and we need to get out people back on the ship.=^=
It hadn't been that long since the team had beamed down to the surface, but based upon the scans things were not getting any better.
"I will get right on it." Kirk replied.
Kirk began to put in the details for more men and supples to head to the transporter room. It was not long after that he got the call again from Logan.
"Andy, Major Rickman just called in for more supplies."
"Tell him that we will be down on the surface in five minutes. Kirk out."
Just as Kirk finished his conversation with Logan the secondary MACO squad walked into the transporter room followed by a few Engineers.
"Take the controls." Kirk ordered to the closest Engineer, "First we are going to beam down the space supplies and weapons then we all are going down, understand?"
The MACO soldiers agreed, each one of them looking more like they wanted to take a shuttle rather than being scrambled and reassembled on the planets surface.
The joint effort of the MACO and the Engineers got all the supples transporter down to the planets surface with in a few minutes. Next came the men, each man lined up on the open pad. Kirk took a few deep breaths which didn't sit well with the MACO's.
"Just not used to this yet." Kirk said to the MACO's, "Alright, send us down." Kirk ordered.
Closing his eyes Kirk could only hear as the energy around them began to intensified until finally it was almost ear shattering. It seemed only a few seconds when it finally stopped and sounds of voices speaking and walking could be heard.
Opening his eyes Kirk spotted familiar faces running around in a hurry. Spotting Major Rickman, Kirk approached.
"Major, here are your supples and more men as you requested."

As Jack saw the men and women assemble, he couldn't think of anyone in the entire quadrant that could pull this off. These people were trained for the worse and Captain Adams had trust in them. When all had gathered he was surprised to know that there was only one MACO left on the ship, but he was glad that it was Atkins. After Wolfgang, Jack trusted Atkins the most, but that could be attributed to the fact that he had been on many away mission with the Marine.
'Commander Logan, can we send resupplies down to the surface? The boys are going to be outgunned even with the Andorians.'
"Yes of course, send down every available aid to our teams," Jack responded knowing that the away teams might have the harder time during the fight that was to come.
"Sgt. there is one more thing," Jack said," after you are done I want you to man the tatical station. I know that it isn't protocol, but I still want you on the trigger."
