Benzin thought it over, long and hard. Asking for support from the five ships wouldn't help their case, and he couldn't see the need for them. Nevertheless, something was fishy, and he wasn't going to take any chances. Five ships, perhaps, would be over doing it. Those other ships are all currently on assignment, and Starfleet would not be fond of that course of action.
The Columbia, Benzin thought. He knew the ship and crew well and he knew he could count on them to aid in the situation as needed. He then shuddered for a moment as he remembered all the disagreements he had had with the captain of the ship, which was his main reason for leaving the Columbia in the first place. But that didn't matter at the moment, however. There were far more important things to worry about.
Benzin: Mr. Logan. Contact the Columbia, tell them we require assistance, and send them all the information we have on this situation. As for boarding ships, Mr. Rickman, I hope it won't come to that, and I doubt it will. Starfleet has never boarded a Vulcan ship and most likely never will. However, be ready for anything.

Inwardly, Adams questioned the Captain's order to contact Columbia; it wasn't one of the closer ships and didn't have much experience, only having been launched the previous year. But then he remembered that Benzin had served on Columbia and knew the ship. He mused that, had he been in command, he'd probably called on one of the ships he knew best, Neptune or Enterprise, even if they had been further away.
Adams was pulled away from his reverie when his console started beeping. He looked down.
"Captain," said Adams, "the unknown vessel is moving. It is on an intercept course with us. It'll get here sooner than the Vulcans; it'll be here in 6 hours. That'll cut it close Captain, Columbia's ETA is 5 and a half hours.

Kirk had listened to the meeting go around the room. It seemed everybody on the senior staff had something to say, and their own take on what should be done. Kirk kept to himself as the options kept flying around the room. Just as long as they don’t break my engines, Kirk thought to himself. No matter who was in charge of the ship, it always seemed that the engineers always claimed the engines as their own, If I can build it, repair it, and refine it, then it’s mine, Kirk’s grandfather used to say to him as a boy.
It seemed after a lot of thought Commander Benzin had made up his mind, contact the Columbia and request help ASAP, as for the Marines they were going to be preparing a boarding party just in case the Vulcans decided to get antsy.
Kirk knew his job keeping the engines running, supplying power to the hull polarization arrays was going to keep him very busy if the Vulcans decided they wanted to pick a fight. He waited for the meeting to adjourn so he could rush back down to the engine room and begin to prepare for the unexpected.

6 hours later, Columbia had not arrived, they had been held up en route.
"Captain," reported Adams, "the unknown ship will be in weapons range in ten minutes!"
"Hail them again." said Benzin.
Logan shook his head indicating that he couldn't get through.
"Any sensor readings Adams?" asked Benzin.
"Our sensors can't penetrate their sheilds." said Adams.
"Alright, we don't know what capabilities they have." said Benzin, "Helm, set an intercept course for Columbia, warp 5."
He tapped a button on his chair and opened a channel to engineering, "Mr Kirk, I want you to give me every bit of power you can muster; we're going to need it!"
<Tag Kirk>
He tapped another button and said, "Mr Rickman, I want all MACOs on standby, full alert status."
<Tag Rickman>
Then he said, "Mr Logan, put shuttlepod 1 on standby, we may need it."
<Tag Logan>
OOC: I know there isn't much to go on here, but I don't know where Benzin is and I don't know where the storyline is going so I can't really advance it, just giving you all something to do.

Mr. Kirk, I want you to give me every bit of power you can muster; we're going to need it!"
Kirk replied quickly from a COM device, “Only my mother called me mister, and that was only I did something wrong,” Kirk said banging on a few stubborn parts.”
“What about that power Ensign?” Lieutenant Adams quickly repeated.
Ensign is better than mister, Kirk thought to himself before he replied, “Sir you have had all the power I could give you for the last five hours. She is ready and waiting for us to do something.”
Kirk could only check a system so many times before he knew exactly where everything had been, especially on Warp engines. These are a work of art, scientific art. 100 times more efficient than any traditional fueled craft, 1000 times more complex with a pinch more of danger.
Kirk made his way over to his assistant who was doubling checking power distribution with Ensign Jack Logan the Operations Officer on the bridge. It appeared everything was still checking out with Logan on the bridge, a good sign everything was running in tiptop shape. Patting the man on the back as he passed Kirk quickly made his way over to the power relay circuits connected to the power distribution box on the far side of engineering.
This ship could not be a more well oiled machine even if I tried to grease her up some more, Kirk thought to himself stepping up to double check power relay circuits. Pulling out an old fashioned flashlight Kirk threw in a as much light as the flashlight would allow, double checking connections, fuses, and these new data disks. Everything looks good over here, Kirk thought closing the cover to the power replay circuits.
“Sir, anti-matter control reports everything is running in the green.” A single engineer reported in.
“Good, tell them to keep an eye on the mixture levels if we get into a fight.”
“Sir?”
“Never mind that, just have them keep an eye on those mixture levels.” Kirk repeated.
“Aye sir.”
Kirk leaned up against a wall shaking his head; most of his officers were as new to working on a starship as he was. Although he graduated at the top of his class and received the ‘Golden Wrench’ award, Kirk still had a few things to learn about working as a department head. That could wait though, there was a battle on the horizon.

The ship shook as the first energy beam hit.
"Minor damage to the aft hull plating!" said Logan as the ship shook again.
"Sir, we can't out-run them!" said Adams.
"Helm, come about," said Benzin, "Mr Adams, take tactical!"
Adams ran across the bridge, stumbling slightly as the ship shook again. He was at the tactical post in an instant.
"Phase cannons! Return fire!" shouted Benzin as the ship shook a little more violently this time and a few sparks erupted from an aft console.
Adams complied with Benzin's order and fired the phase cannons.
"We've damaged their starboard shields, Captain!" said Logan.
Challenger was hit again and this time there was quite a big eruption of sparks from the back of the bridge as the ship shook violently.
"Damage to an EPS junction sir!" said Logan.
"Lock torpedoes on, Mr Adams, and fire!" said Benzin.
Adams did as he was told and launched the torpedoes.
"Major damage to their sheilds Captain," reported Logan, "it looks like their sensor disruption field has weakened their sheilds."
There was another violent shake and Logan reported, "Direct hit to our forward phase cannons, sir, they've been disabled!"
Adams and Benzin exchanged worried looks. Neither of them was sure that they could win this battle without the phase canons.
As they turned their eyes back to the viewscreen, however, they saw a streak of orange come across the screen onto the enemy vessel, followed by several torpedoes.
"It's Columbia sir!" said Logan, "They've finished the job sir, the enemy vessel has been disabled!"
"It's about time we found out what all this was about," said Benzin, "Mr Adams, lead an away team over there to find out what's going on."
Adams simply nodded as he got up from the tactical station.
He said, "Mr Logan, you're with me." and the young ensign got up from his post and joined him in the lift.
"Have Mr Rickman and two of his men meet me in the shuttlebay." Adams said.
Benzin nodded.
<Rickman>
As the lift doors closed, Benzin opened a channel to engineering, "Mr Kirk, get to work on repairs, I want a full damage report!"

'Mr Rickman, I want all MACOs on standby, full alert status.' 'You heard him, sergeant' Rickman said to the sergeant who was standing next to him in the Rickman and Atkin's quarters/MACO planning room.
Sergeant Smith went into the MACO's quarters to give the orders; Rickman could hear his sergeantal yelling from where he was. 'Scramble boys, scramble. Stick to the plan and keep sharp' came the muffled orders through the bulkhead. Soon enough, he returned. 'All fire teams in position' he reported. 'Very good, sergeant' The sergeant departed to monitor the fire teams along with Corporal Grey. Atkins headed for the bridge in his odd semi-limping way where he had been injured in the leg in battle a while ago. His leg was still fully functional, it just looked a little odd when he walked. Rickman stayed with the third fire team who were currently in reserve in case of boarding so they could reinforce the side under duress. When Atkins was half way down the corridor, the ship rocked. With the first blast. Not very long later, the blasts stopped and Benzin's voice came on a COM device. 'Captain Rickman, I need you and two men to meet Lieutenant Adams in the shuttlebay.' 'Roger, captain' Rickman replied. He called down to Atkins 'it looks like we're having a boarding party. Keep in contact from the bridge' Rickman didn't trust the Starfleet crew to be able to coordinate a tactical advance as well as Atkins, who was experienced in the field. The fact they only wanted three Marines and not a full fire team suggested they didn't know how the Marines operated. Then again the shuttlepods were small and if any Starfleet crew were going then there probably wouldn't be the space for them all. Well it would be seen soon enough if Starfleet were capable of handling such an incident. 'Brown, Swift, with me' Rickman ordered and left with the Marines for the shuttlebay.
He arrived just as Atkins arrived on the bridge. 'Lieutenant Atkins,' Atkins said to Benzin, saluting in his introduction. 'Captain Rickman wants me to monitor and if necessary co-ordinate any tactical situation that may take place with the away team' <Benzin>
In the shuttlebay: 'What's the plan, Lieutenant?' Rickman asked <Adams>

As the lift doors closed, Benzin opened a channel to engineering, "Mr. Kirk, get to work on repairs, I want a full damage report!"
“What am I, 50?” Kirk said out loud as he heard Lt. Adams call down to Engineering, pushing the COM button on a near by station Kirk reported back, “Aye sir, I will get right on it.”
The battle was quick and the unknown attackers left Kirk with more work than his entire engineering team could handle. The Vulcans attacked the Challenger strategically, setting their sights first on weapons and defense while targeting propulsion secondary since they knew they could out run a Warp 5 class vessel.
Sparks continued to fly as power relay stations went out all over engineering causing some parts of the ship to shut down. Kirk looked at his station and watched as the sections of the ship that received the most attention during the attack begin to lose power and eventually shut down entirely.
“Engineering to the bridge.” Kirk said into the COM.
“Go ahead.” Replied Lieutenant Adams.
“Sir I need a analysis of the weapons being used by that ship, we are losing systems down here at an alarming rate. I have a feeling they have some how been shooting us with heavy electromagnetic pulses.”
<Tag Lieutenant Adams>
While Kirk waited for the tactical analysis of the unknown ships weapons Kirk found Nixon lying underneath a pile of empty storage containers. He pulled his assistant up to his feet and brushed off his shoulders trying to make sure he was in good enough shape to continue working.
“I’m ok,” Nixon replied patting Kirk on the back.
“You better be, I cannot afford to lose over a pile of empty storage containers.” Kirk said smiling, “The Captain wants a damage report as soon as possible, I will take a look over the engines and the polarization replays I want you to take a look at the phase canons.” Kirk ordered.
“I will get right on it sir.” Nixon replied getting underway to receive the damage report as requested.
Kirk worked as fast as he could to get the Captain the report he wanted and it did not take him long to see that the engines were still in good working order, they had not taken a direct hit but if they did the situation would have been different. Nixon came back just moments after Kirk finished looking at the polarization relays.
“What have you got?” Kirk asked.
“Phase canon capacitors are shot, we have burnt out EPS relays all over the ship.”
“Best guess on repair times?” Kirk asked.
“Five hours at best sir.” Nixon replied whipping the sweat off his brow.
Kirk had a disturbed look on his face, he knew this was supposed to be a straight forward mission and Starfleet had not equipped them with enough parts to fix all the problems they currently had. Kirk wasted no time informing the Captain of the situation.
“Engineering to the Bridge.”
“Go ahead Ensign.” Benzin replied.
“Sir, I have got good news and bad news. First lets go with the good news, we still have warp drive and full impulse power. The bad news is that both the hull polarizes are the phase canons are down. We estimate given if we had all the proper spare parts it would take five hours to repair.”
“Thank you Ensign, get right on it.” Benzin said.
“That’s the problem sir, we don’t have the parts we need. We need to beg, borrow, or steal them from the Columbia.”

The battle had been a lot quicker than expected, but hat was due to the fact that the Columbia helped them. I'm glad that we have friends on other ships and Captain Erika Hernadez should get a commendation Jack thought.
"It's about time we found out what all this was about," said Benzin, "Mr Adams, lead an away team over there to find out what's going on."
"Mr Logan, you're with me." Jack quickly got up from his station and followed Lt. Adams to the turbolift. He had not yet spent a lot of time with his crewmates, but right now they had more pressing business. They reached the shuttlebay in record time and were greeted by Captain Rickman and two of his marines.
"Okay gentleman I'm in charge here and I give the orders," Lt. Adams said to the Marines. For a second no one said anything, but Captain Rickman answered quickly.
"Understood," Rickman said in a very sharp military tone. Jack could feel the tension, but he knew that this was not the time, they needed to find out who was doing this and why.
"Lt. we have been cleared for takeoff," Jack reported.
"Okay good, take us out Ensign," Adams ordered.

In the shuttle, Logan said, "Lieutenant, we have been cleared for takeoff."
"Okay, good. Take us out Ensign," Adams ordered.
The shuttle slid out of the bay and moved towards the alien vessel.
"What is the plan Lieutenant?" asked Rickman.
"When we get in there, our scanners should work. We find out what we're up against. Our ultimate mission is to get to the bridge and find out who these people are and what they are trying to do here." said Adams.
Moments later, the shuttle shook as it connected with the alien vessel. The shuttle door opened.
"Get up there and check that the area is secure." Rickman ordered his two men.
The first man climbed the ladder, but there were no sounds of a fight. The second man went up.
After a few moments, one of the men reported, "All clear sir."
Adams then climbed the ladder, followed by Rickman, then Logan. Adams drew his phase pistol, just in case.
When Logan had come out of the hole Adams ordered, "Report Mr Logan."
Logan looked at his scanner for a moment then reported, "Only three sir, two decks above here, presumably the bridge."
Adams frowned, "There should be more than that on a ship this size. Ok, we gotta get up there. Let's find a way up.
Five minutes later they had ascended the ladder they had found and were outside the door to the bridge.
"Ok," said Adams, "They'll know we're here, so we have to be careful. Mr Rickman, and you," he indicated another MACO, "we'll open the door and fire at whomever we see. Rifles on stun gentlemen, I want these people alive."
Adams pressed the panel next to the doors, they opened and he fired at the first person they saw. Rickman and the other MACO had done the same. The three men lay unconscious on the floor.
"Vulcans!" said Rickman.
Adams looked down and saw that he was right.
"This isn't like the Vulcans. Since the High Command was disbanded, Vulcan has become a lot less agressive." said Adams.
"Or maybe that's what they want us to think." said Rickman.
"Let's not make any hasty assumptions Mr Rickman. They probably aren't even working for the Vulcan authorities."
"Mr Rickman, secure these gentlemen." said Adams.
<Rickman>
"Logan, see if you can access their computer, find out what they were doing, where this ship comes from." ordered Adams.
<Logan>
Adams flipped open his communicator and opened a channel to Challenger's engineering.
"Mr Kirk, do we have transporters back yet? We have three prisoners to transport." asked Adams.
<Kirk>
He then opened a channel to the bridge.
"Captain, this is Adams."
"What have you found Lieutenant?" came Benzin's voice.
"Vulcans, sir. Three of them. We're trying to access their computer."
"Keep me apprised." said Benzin, "Challenger out."
OOC: Kirk, I know that the transporters weren't specifically stated as being offline, but I took that as the reason we used the shuttle instead.

OCC: I figured they would have to be damaged if you asked if the transporters were working again. Mr. Kirk, do we have transporters back yet? We have three prisoners to transport." “Not yet,” Kirk said hammering away at a bent EPS bracket, “I would guess about an hour at least before they are back online. I would like to know what they hit us with, it might speed up the repairs.” <Tag Lieutenant Adams>Kirk finished up with this conversation with Lieutenant Adams and continued to pound away on the bent EPS bracket to try and relieve pressure on the EPS conduit before it had a chance to explode and take out a section of the ship. Kirk pulled out his trusty old crowbar and carefully wedged it between the grid and the bulkhead pulling away from the grid as hard as he could the sounds of bending steel could be heard. It took a few hard tried before the bracket let the EPS conduit free, Kirk whipped the sweat off his brow. “I could use a smoke,” Kirk said exhaling loudly as he looked at the damage done by the attack.

Adams went up the ladder unto the Vulcan ship before Rickman. Rickman couldn't help wondering why a science officer would want to go before the professional soldier, but if he wanted to have his face blown off then that was his own look out. Besides, it wasn't like Rickman trusted even the Armoury Officer as much as he trusted Atkins, let alone a science officer. When they were all up the ladder, Adams had also drawn his weapon. It wasn't exactly a match compared to the MACO's phase rifle, but maybe he was more willing and able to fight than Rickman had given him credit for. Only Logan wasn't wielding a weapon and Rickman respected that. Logan was the communications officer and wasn't pretending to be a solider. Knowing your limits is a good strategy in battle. The news that there were only three people on the ship was a surprise; Rickman had been expecting a fight from start to finish. As it is, they arrived at the bridge unopposed, despite the two MACOs moving ahead in a one-two movement in case of hidden enemies, automatic gun emplacements and clever traps. Either the people on board didn't know they were there, didn't care or didn't know how to react.
'Ok,' said Adams, 'They'll know we're here, so we have to be careful. Mr Rickman, and you,' he indicated another MACO, 'we'll open the door and fire at whomever we see. Rifles on stun gentlemen, I want these people alive.' The command to fire on whomever was somewhat redundant as that's what they were there to do, but Rickman had to credit Adams for at least trying. It was probably his first mission and he had to prove he could do it or else the Marines would never trust him. Maybe Rickman was being too hard on Adams, but he knew as much as Adams probably did that the first mission is vital to ensure trust. As Rickman and Brown pointed their rifles at the door, Swift covered the back in case of any unseen surprises. Two seconds after the door had opened, it was all over and three Vulcans were on the floor. 'Vulcans!' Rickman said partly in surprise; it wasn't in their usual character but they were there nonetheless. 'This isn't like the Vulcans. Since the High Command was disbanded, Vulcan has become a lot less agressive.' said Adams 'Or maybe that's what they want us to think.' Rickman mused aloud. It wasn't very diplomatic, but diplomacy wasn't his job, it was Logan's. Just as Logan hadn't tried to use a weapon Rickman wasn't going to try to be a diplomat, conscious Vulcans or not. 'Let's not make any hasty assumptions Mr Rickman. They probably aren't even working for the Vulcan authorities.' To be honest, Rickman didn't see how that mattered. There was a group of Vulcans going around attacking ships. Even if it wasn't official, for them to be on and using a ship like this one posed a serious threat if there were more of them. 'Mr Rickman, secure these gentlemen.' The MACO's weren't security and so didn't have any normal restraints. The best they had were things which looked like thick cable ties and so used those. They'd be strong enough to hold anyone, including Vulcans.
After Adams had done talking to Benzin, Rickman brought up the problem of the transporters. 'Lieutenant, I know how unsafe transporters are. I want to make it clear now that no MACO is ever going to go on one of them unless under the direst emergency. Risk the Vulcans if you like, but I will not have any of my men accompany them across. If you do want to transport them, then I suggest we take them down to the transporter room on this ship and attempt to use the Vulcan one to send them to the Challenger's pad. Mr Logan should be able to read the controls.'

Adams knew that he had to meet the conflict, he knew that Rickman didn't think much of Starfleet officers and Adams would not allow himself to be trodden upon by someone under his command, "As it happens, Mr Rickman I don't intend to use transporters unless necessary, but remember that you are under my command. Transporters have been approved for use on bio matter. If I order you or any of your men to use a transporter, I expect my orders to be followed."

When you've found out what kind of weapons they use, relay the information to Mr Kirk."

"Logan, see if you can access their computer, find out what they were doing, where this ship comes from." ordered Adams.
"Aye sir," Jack said as he walked in front of the MACO's and went to work. He was fluent in Vulcan and didn't have a hard time with it, but this Vulcan writing was something that he had never seen. It was clearly derived from Vulcan, but something was very different which worried him.
The fact that it was different would mean that it would take Jack a lot longer than expected to find out what exactly everything said. He could read helm control and what seemed to be their science console, but engineering and weapons where another matter.
'Lieutenant, I know how unsafe transporters are. I want to make it clear now that no MACO is ever going to go on one of them unless under the direst emergency. Jack was a bit surprised at the confrontation that Captain Rickman was having with Lt. Adams. Jack already knew that MACO's didn't respect Starfleet officer's ability to command in battle, but if the Captain had a problem he should of taken it up with the Lt. alone and not in front of his men. Lt. Adams had not yet spoken, he looked directly at Jack first and thought for a moment and then responded.
"As it happens, Mr Rickman I don't intend to use transporters unless necessary, but remember that you are under my command. Transporters have been approved for use on bio matter. If I order you or any of your men to use a transporter, I expect my orders to be followed."
Jack couldn't help but smile a little. Lt. Adams had put the MACO's in their place and he didn't back down either.
"However," said Adams, "Your suggestion is valid. I'd like you and your men to move these Vulcans to the ship's transporter room. Mr Logan, I want you to stay up here and keep trying with their computer. See if you can access their transporter systems from here. "Yes sir, but I have been able to find out some information already," Jack said.
"Okay, tell me," Adams said as he got closer to Jack.
"Helm logs show that this ship has not been anywhere close to Vulcan space," Jack said.
"Well that doesn't mean it wasn't the Vulcans," one of the MACO'S said.
"Another thing the writing is different," Jack said. Lt. Adams looked at the writing in confusion. Jack knew that Starfleet officers were requested to learn a the basics of Vulcan.
"Ensign that looks like Vulcan to me," Adams said as re read the controls. To untrained people this would be the exact language, but Jack could tell the difference, he was now 100% sure that this writing was not Vulcan.
"I know sir, but trust me when I say that this is not Vulcan," Jack said.
<Tag Adams/Rickman>
The information that Jack had just reported seemed to unsettle everyone on the bridge, but they went on with there mission.
"What about weapons?" Adams asked.
"Sir I will need more time to figure that out," Jack said as he used the universal translator to help him disfigure what the console was telling him.

OOC: If you're aiming for this to be a Romulan ship, let's not forget that it wasn't discovered that Romulans were related to Vulcans until the 23rd Century. Doesn't mean that they can't be another offshoot race though.

Rickman didn't like the suggestion some Starfleet scanner man would know more about tactics than he did. 'I dare say it can transport vegetables across safely, but living people are something different. I have seen conflicting reports from other sources. People less afraid to admit that people have died on the transporters than Starfleet Command. And whilst you are at liberty to send the Marines into action, you are not an experienced tactician and are not in the position to say if something is tactically sound or not. You say go, but it's up to me to say how. That's why I have Atkins on the bridge, that's why I was allowed to choose my own teams and those were the conditions I signed up for this under.'
Swift and Brown looked unsettled over the argument now brewing between the two Captains. So far as they knew they only had to follow Rickman. Apparently noone had bothered to think about telling them what to do in case of a disagreement. They looked between Logan, Rickman and Adams to see if either Starfleet officer showed signs of beginning violence.
After a tense few seconds, Adams defused the situation. 'However,' said Adams, 'Your suggestion is valid. I'd like you and your men to move these Vulcans to the ship's transporter room.'
Rickman spun around, his anger dying down. He stalked over to one of the Vulcans and hefted him onto a shoulder.
'Bring the other two' he ordered them. 'Mr Logan, where is the transporter room?' The last thing Rickman wanted to do was to look stupid by having to hunt around the entire ship for the transporter.

"Mr Logan, where is the transporter room?" Asked Rickman.
"The deck below this one, section 24." Replied Logan.
Rickman and his men set off for the transporter room.
"What about weapons?" Adams asked.
"Sir I will need more time to figure that out." Jack said.
He took out his universal translator, evidently to help him work with the differences with this language.
"Ok. When you've figured it out, contact Mr Kirk and give him what information you can. I also want you to start working on downloading this ship's database to Challenger's; if we have more people working on it, we might be able to get the job done quicker." said Adams.
He started for the door.
"You sure you'll be ok down there?" Logan said, half-jokingly.
Adams smiled, "Don't worry Jack, I can handle Rickman."
And he headed out of the door after Rickman and his men.

OCC: Well I was thinking that just like the Romulans that left Vulcan in the "Time of Awakening" some others left and headed to places unknown, but now they are back
On:
"Mr Logan, where is the transporter room?" asked Rickman. Jack quickly checked the ship layout and discovered that it was right below them.
"The deck below this one, section 24." Jack replied.
"Ok. When you've figured it out, contact Mr Kirk and give him what information you can. I also want you to start working on downloading this ship's database to Challenger's; if we have more people working on it, we might be able to get the job done quicker." said Adams.
"Yes sir," Jack said as went about his work. Jack couldn't help but add a joke into the mix.
"You sure you'll be ok down there?" Logan said, half-jokingly.
Adams smiled, "Don't worry Jack, I can handle Rickman."
"I'm sure you can sir," Jack said as he went to work on the weapons. Jack had been on a Vulcan ship before so he thougth that the tactical station would be in the same place. Lucky for him he was right. He of course could translate the fire button but everything else was a mystery.
So Jack took his translator and inputed what he was seeing. He then programmed it to see what the closest Vulcan words were. It took the translator some time, but it did its job. With the base Vulcan words, it became a lot easier for Jack to figure out what the console was saying.
Jack quickly read what it was saying to him and he quickly discovered that this ship even though it was much smaller was almost exactly the same tactical wise as the Vulcan Surak class ship. The only major difference was that the weapon system was powered differently, but Jack didn't know how
=^=Logan to Kirk, I am sending you the tactical specs of this ship, but I could not figure out the power base for the weapons=^=

After finishing the conversation wth Kirk, Jack did what he was also ordered to do. He headed to the communications console on the ship and activated it. Jack had no problem with it and was soon in the ships main computer.
"Computer download entire database and send it to the Challenger." When the computer chimed Jack knew that his request was being fulfilled and now he would only have to wait.
=^=Logan to Adams, I have sent the tactical information to Ensign Kirk and I have begun downloading the ships main computer=^=

“Thanks Logan.” Kirk said turning to look at the incoming data.
Transfer complete
“What the hell is this?” Kirk said looking at the foreign characters on his view screen, “Logan I need this in English, I can’t speak a lick of whatever this crap is.”
“Use the Universal translator.” Logan replied.
“For which language.” Kirk replied sounding more frustrated.
“Run the files through the Vulcan translator, that appears to be this languages base. I think you can figure out the rest from there. Logan out.”
“Damn bridge officers.” Kirk mumbled as he activated the universal translator.
The stress of the day’s events had started to wear on Kirk’s patience and it showed very clearly in his attitude. One of Kirk’s long time friends, a fellow engineer knew it was best to stay clear of the man when things did not go as Kirk had planned. The translator completed its cycle leaving Kirk looking at half the tactical read out in English the other in a mysterious language he never wanted to see again.
“Greeeeaaaat.” Kirk said scrolling through what seemed like an endless list of technical data.
From the data Kirk could read he was impressed with the firepower on such a small ship, but he was no closer to finding out what hit them and how he could possibly protect the ship from another attack from a similar vessel.
“Sir, any word on those parts?” Nixon asked.
“Not yet.” Kirk said still looking at the screen, “Take a look at this.”
Nixon jumped to next to Kirk to look at the console screen Kirk was eyeing.
“That looks like Vulcan, but I cannot make out those words.” Nixon said.
“You speak Vulcan Nix?” Kirk asked finally smiling, as he felt a bit more relaxed.
“Yeah my father insisted that I learn.”
“Good, then maybe you can help me figure out what the hell we were hit with.” Kirk said.

"Put them on the pad." ordered Adams as they entered the transporter room.
Rickman and his men laid the Vulcans on the transporter pad.
"Yes!" said Adams, quietly, as he examined the control panel, "It's still online."
"Are you sure it's a good idea to put them all through at once?" asked Rickman, looking doubtful.
"These transporters are more advanced than ours, it shouldn't be a problem." said Adams.
He flipped open his communicator and contacted Kirk.
"Mr Kirk, we will shortly be transporting over our prisoners. I want you at the transporter station with a security detail."
"But sir," came Kirk's voice, "our transporters are still offline."
"Acknowledged," said Adams, "but the transporters over here are working and we should still be able to use Challenger's transporter as a receiving station."
After a few minutes, Kirk's response came, "Ok, we're in position."
Adams had just about figured out the controls and tapped in the last few commands.
"Energizing." He said into his communicator.
<tag Kirk>
"We have them." said Kirk.
"Ok, have the security men put them in the brig. Adams out."
He then opened a channel to Logan.
"Mr Logan, if you're finished, report to the shuttle pod, that's where the MACOs and I are headed now."
<tag Logan>
Adams made his way back to the shuttle with the MACOs at his side.
<tag Rickman?>
--------------------------
Twenty minutes later, they were all back on the bridge of Challenger, at the aft station. Benzin was briefing the officers on their next duties.
"Okay gentlemen, we have twelve hours until the Vulcan ships get here. We must assume that these Vulcans, or whatever they are, are responsible for the destruction of the Kisari. I want to know why. Mr Logan, I want you and Mr Adams to find out all you can from the data we collected."
<tag Logan>
"Mr Rickman, I want you to interrogate our guests in the brig. I want a by-the-book interrogation Captain, is that clear?"
<tag Rickman>
"Mr Kirk, what is the current status of the ship?"
<tag Kirk>
"I want us to be as ready as possible by the time the Vulcans get here."
<tag Kirk>
"Captain Hernandez told me to let you know that Columbia's resources are at your disposal. I want answers, at the latest in eleven hours people. Dismissed."
All the officers left to their separate tasks as Benzin assumed his chair.

"Mr. Kirk, we will shortly be transporting over our prisoners. I want you at the transporter station with a security detail."
"But sir," came Kirk's voice, "Our transporters are still offline."
"Acknowledged," said Adams, "but the transporters over here are working and we should still be able to use Challenger's transporter as a receiving station."
“Understood,” Kirk said closing the channel, “You three just became security personnel, grab a phase pistol and follow me. Nix I want you to keep working on that translation, I will be back shortly.”
“Aye sir.” Nixon replied.
Kirk and the three crewmen quickly made their way to the transporter room with a brief stop in the armory. Kirk walked up to the transporter console, placing his phase pistol on the top of molding while he looked over the station, the three guards took positions directly in front of the transporter pad and awaited the prisoners.
“Ok, we are in position.” Kirk said over the COM.
“Energizing.” Kirk heard over the COM channel.
Kirk looked on with the other guards as the three men began to appear right in front of their eyes. The power seemed to faultier from the alien ship causing the three prisoners to fade in and out phase. It seemed the crewmembers aboard the alien ship had finally figured out their transporter systems as the three prisoners finally finished transporting.
“We have them.” Kirk said before closing the channel, “Take these Vulcans to the brig.” Kirk said.
Kirk followed the prisoners to make sure they made it to the brig with out a fight. Once the prisoners were placed in their cells Kirk made his way back down to engineering to find out little progress was made.
“What’s going on down here!?” Kirk exclaimed, “Your supposed to be engineers, able to fix anything!”
“Sorry sir, but this new weapon is unbelievable. Just those few shots caused massive electrical damage to the ship.
“Ensign Kirk, please report to the bridge.” Kirk heard over the COM.
Once on the bridge Kirk noticed the rest of the officers had been gathered around to discuss the current situation.
“Mr. Kirk what is the current status of the ship?”
“We have warp drive and full impulse power, but the ships defensive systems took most of the damage. Right now we cannot polarize the hull, and our canons are down to 23%.”
“I want us to be as ready as possible by the time the Vulcans get here.”
“I will do my best sir.” Kirk said.
“Captain Ramirez told me to let you know that Columbia's resources are at your disposal. I want answers, at the latest in eleven hours people. Dismissed."
Kirk nodded at the bit of good news before heading back down to main engineering.

Rickman and the MACO's dumped the Vulcans unceremoniously onto the transporter pad. In truth they were all in bad moods after the argument on the bridge. None of them thought to tell Starfleet their jobs so why Starfleet should think they have the right to tell the MACO's theirs?
Each man had served with Rickman before, that's why he had chosen them. The first fire team were from the operation on Hawaii, the second from Mexico and the third from India. Each soldier knew at least three others in the squad and so the bonds between the groups were deeper than any of the Starfleet crew could know. These men had fought together, faced death together, seen some of their friends die together. Ahmed Khan wasn't present, but he owed his life to Atkins who in turn owed his to Rickman. That was who they were; they were Marines, the few, the happy few, the band of brothers.
To Rickman's way of thinking, Starfleet needed the Marines more than the Marines needed Starfleet. Without the MACO force, the ship would be more open to boarding and their personal combat effectiveness would be more than halved without the Marines' experience. But without the ship, the Marines would be back on Earth without having to deal with illogical Vulcans, exploding transports and scanner men trying to play General. However, he knew Sergeant Smith wouldn't like to see the two CO's fighting over this. Smith was lower ranked than Rickman, but he was nearly 20 years older and Rickman, like all half decent CO's, knew that sergeants weren't to be thought of as just there to be bossed around, but to be listened to as well.
This had gone through Rickman's mind on the way back to the ship. On the bridge, Rickman decided not to make the topic current again by avoiding the obvious sarcastic reply. 'Mr Rickman, I want you to interrogate our guests in the brig. I want a by-the-book interrogation Captain, is that clear?' All he said was 'Yes, Lieutenant', what he could have said was 'Do you actually know what this book looks like? And was it written with Vulcans in mind?'
In the end, he took Smith, Brown and Khan with him to the brig and dismissed the security officer present. 'Khan, you're our moral guide so you tell us when you think they've had enough.' 'Sir' 'Smith, we'll do this one first,' Rickman said, pointing to one of the Vulcans in a cell. Smith pulled out the stun truncheon in a MACO's kit, opened the door and zapped the Vulcan with it. He went limp and Rickman injected him with truth serum. There was a name for it, but Rickman wasn't a doctor. He did however know that Vulcans were generally harder to affect with chemicals so gave over the dose he would have given to a human.
'So who are you?' he asked Nothing. 'Do you even understand me?' Again nothing. Rickman nodded to Smith, who went to the com device on the wall. 'Smith to bridge, we need Mr Logan down here to translate'

Logan and Adams were on the bridge working on the data that they had extracted from the alien ship's core. Logan had just about perfected the translation program.
A call came through the comm "Smith to bridge, we need Mr Logan down here to translate."
"Acknowledged," said Benzin, "He's on his way."
The translation program was now such that Adams could use it. Now, it was just a matter of extracting the data.
He tapped the last pattern and his console beeped.
"Bingo!" exclaimed Adams.
"What is it?" asked Benzin, getting up from his chair and crossing to the science station."
"I have access." Said Adams. "Give me an hour to study this and I'll get a report to you Captain."
An hour later, his report was ready and he was presenting it to the Captain on the bridge. The Captain was in front of him, leaning on the science station while Adams was in his seat.
"This race are called the M'Tok. They are an offshoot of the Vulcan race, they broke away from Vulcan a hundred and fifty years ago, discontent with the supression of emotion. From what I can gather, their people function quite well, even without Vulcan logic, but from their historical database, I have learned that some of their people still harbour a dislike of Vulcans, even a hate, with some groups being formed on their world actively pursuing terrorist acitvities against Vulcan. I believe that that is what this ship was part of. They destroyed the Kisari and framed us to attempt to drive a wedge between our peoples."
"But how did they alter our records and convince the Vulcans that we fired on them?" asked Benzin.
"That's...gonna take a little longer to find out..." said Adams.
