Reynolds had indicated to Blakus that the USS Seraph, his own vessel, would've been available however it was currently having a new warp core installed. All other ships that might've been made ready were currently skeleton-crewed, and in any case in the time they could be prepped for departure and taken to the beleaguered Renounce's position the encounter may well be over.
Andae was still pacing around Ops like a man besotted with machinery. Reynolds and Torek had retreated to the rear of Ops, brooding over strategy, leaving Blakus, Wedlerson and Starbase 47's operational staff to handle immediate affairs.
"Why can't we use a quantum torpedo?" Andae asked. He was at the master tactical console. "This installation must have the longest ranged torpedoes and most accurate guidance systems in the sector. You should be able to pick out - "
"No, sir." The lieutenant manning the station paused, "Begging your pardon, sir. At this range there is no way the targeting and guidance systems could resolve the difference between the Renounce and the merc vessel. They're less than three hundred metres apart - despite our computer's resolution we can't distinguish one pixel - ship - from another. In any case the damage we could do to the mercenary craft would inevitably cause damage to the shieldless Renounce as well."
Blakus shrugged, "Well answered." And, he thought, it wouldn't solve the problem aboard the Renounce herself. Jamison was of course a more than capable tactical chief and leader, and at the time, the assault force Carl had prepared had seemed more than sufficient to subdue the freed mercenaries. However Andae was beginning to doubt that. Something gnawed at him; they'd heard nothing from the Renounce since that first garbled communication, and its power levels indicated they still hadn't regained control of the computer core or the primary power distribution units. He could only hope they maintained control of the warp core; but then that system wasn't, he hoped, part of the mercenaries' plans.
He looked around Ops, attempting formulation of a new desperate plan. Perhaps he was overreacting. Perhaps Jamison, Valenti and co had everything contained. He couldn't take the chance.
There was nothing stopping the Starbase sending more marine personnel over to the Renounce. Doubtlessly artificial gravity would be down but the soldiers could be made to be prepared for that. The only two issues he could see were that malfunctioning receiving relays aboard the Renounce would make successful transportation more difficult to achieve, and that the range between the Renounce-merc system and the Starbase was now twice that of what it'd been before.
Blakus ascended the steps towards the back of Ops, aiming to meet with Torek. "Admiral. We have to send more troops - " But he was halted in his path; a shadow loomed above him. He looked up, somewhat shocked to find himself faced with Admiral Tetsutaro.
"Commander, that is out of the question," Tetsutaro said softly, "Starfleet isn't willing to risk further lives in this matter. An assault team of our best marines is already over there."
Blakus sized the man up, responded calmly, "Those are Starfleet officers over there, sir. One of which the assailants are attempting to capture."
"Commander Marionette is recognised as an individual," Tetsutaro stated. "However, she is also Starfleet property. Sometimes sacrifices must be made - "
"She's a thinking intelligent being," Blakus snapped. "This exact same issue went to a judicial panel over thirty years ago, with the result in the favour of the artificial being. Other such cases have been brought since, with the same result. One would've thought the Federation would've moved on by now."
Sato moved past Andae easily, down into the crucible of Starbase 47 Ops and its milling frantic officers. "Sorry, Commander. Commander Jamison and his marines are on their own." Blakus watched the back of the man's head, seething.

Tetsutaro had been in his office watching proceedings closely. He knew the people around him were frustrated with not being able to act. He opened a secure comm link and spoke for a moment. Once done, he got out of his chair and entered the Command Area.
"Admiral. We have to send more troops ...." Blakus was saying as he approached the Raven's Chief Engineer. He'd known Andae since he had first been assigned to the Raven, and had kept a close eye on his career, but this time he needed to put a stop to the train of thought quickly, he listened to the man's argument then spoke:
"Sorry, Commander ... But Commander Jamison and his Marines are on their own."
"You are going to ju ....."
"Andae !" Torek said, halting his retort instantly.
"Sir's ... I am tracking four unauthorized departures !" the Tactical Officer said, putting the vessels on the main view-screen, "Four Type Nine shuttles are en-route to the Renounce." Even Carl had to admit his surprise at the latest development. Surely Sato hadn't sent the heavily armed, warp-capable shuttles to, to what, prevent the departure of the criminal vessel, to assist the Renounce and the Raven crew over there, including his own step-daughter !
"Admiral ?" Carl said, the questioning tone evident.
"Open a channel to the lead shuttle please." Sato said, ignoring Torek. The Comms Officer nodded and Sato looked at the screen:
=^= Commander .. You are aware of your instructions ? =^=
=^= Yes Admiral =^= the man replied.
=^= Very well .. You will fire on any vessel attempting to depart the area .. Understood =^=
=^= Confirmed Admiral .. Lead Shuttle .. Out =^=
Carl walked down to stand next to the man he had looked upon as a Father since he was a child. He couldn't believe this man would sacrifice so many people to ensure the criminals didn't achieve their goal of getting away with Marionette. Was there something else at stake here, was it possible the Federation's Head of Security had information neither he or Matt were privy to, well yes, he conceded that point, neither he nor Reynolds were privy to 'all' the information coming into the Federation, but still .....
=^= Is there something going on Sato ?" he asked quietly. Tetsutaro turned away and spoke:
"Tactical view on-screen please." the view changed instantly. They could see the stricken Renounce, signified by a slowly flashing arrow-head insignia. Close by was the criminal vessel, and closing the distance quickly before spreading out, were the four shuttles. They took up positions to ensure neither ship would pass without permission.
"Admiral." Carl said, intentionally using rank rather than familiar tense, "This is a simple kidnap attempt. So why all the effort, surely Commander Marionette wouldn't disclose any substantial information that could affect the Federation, even if they get her away from us .... Is she in possession of information other than her nominal programming ?"
"Prior to her assignment to the Raven ....." Sato said, making sure no-one could overhear the conversation, "The Android was fitted with certain implanted, 'precautionary' sub-routines. They are undetectable, not only to anyone attempting to gain access to her neural processors, but to Marionette herself .... Protocol states we delete all her access codes, but anyone going to this much trouble to gain access, may have the means to gain information before we are able to affect the changes ... So ... Should she, or anyone else, attempt to access the guarded neural sub-routines, the program will wipe her memory core instantly, effectively killing her instantly, in Human terms. It will also be transferred to whatever system being used in the attempt, and send out a 'Decommission' signal to any nearby Federation listening posts or vessels."
"You couldn't manage a 'self-destruct' while you were at it then !" Carl said, frustration welling beyond any sensible levels. Turning away before he said something he was really going to regret. He moved back into the center of the Command Area and watched the four shuttles taking up positions. He just hoped that Will and Calli were fairing better. They needed to do something, and quickly ..........

Andae listened to this exchange between Torek and Tetsutaro, the two men bonded by something more than officer camaraderie, but some form of patriarchical sensibility had been lost in the face of the professional urgency of the situation. He turned back to the tactical station, nodding to the officer manning it and hoping he'd have his wits about him should the vessels close further, despite the newly arrived shuttles' involvement.
He wandered to the side of Ops, his old Victory-C colleague Bligh joining him. Clandestinely they conferred with one another. After a brief discussion Andae nodded and tapped his commbadge, "Blakus to Milyanov. Report your position."
"Sir... Officer's mess gamma-oh-niner." Blakus heard laughter in the background. "Is there a problem?" the Russian's thick accent sounded even more accentuated over the comm.
Blakus sighed, "On the Starbase?"
"Where else, sir? Is there a problem?" he repeated.
"You hadn't heard?" The pause informed him that the answer was negative. "Well, don't worry about it. Commander Marionette was kidnapped. The USS Renounce rescued her and imprisoned the mercenaries who performed the capture. Unfortunately, they've since broken free and have disabled the Renounce. Both Marionette and Commander Valenti are aboard that ship. So, get yourself to the Raven and start power up," Blakus said, not letting Milyanov get a word in. "Ready to make the step up?" he asked, "I'll get permission from the Admiral. The presence of the Raven could act as a deterrent." Blakus closed the comm, doubtlessly leaving Milyanov mystified.
"Carl," Andae said from behind his commanding officer, distracted him from his close proximity to Tetsutaro - the relationship between them Andae understood had become strained rather rapidly. And to think he was the one originally on the verge of doing something very insubordinate, he considered. "I have a proposition... Why don't we send the Raven out there? She's undergoing refit but I'm positive Milyanov can have her operational in half an hour. We wouldn't need it for very long, or, more specifically, he wouldn't need it for very long."
"Milyanov can command it himself. His engineering expertise is most of what's required. The close proximity of the Raven may force the mercenaries, currently running riot on the Renounce to back off." The operation's potential outcomes were still uncertain though: they hadn't been able to make contact with Jamison or any others aboard the Renounce. The extent to which Norg, Fett and the others had taken control was unknown.
"Calli's on that ship, sir..." Andae said quietly, seeing Carl's obvious and understandable hesitation, "And the Admiralty are willing to allow Marionette's circuits, her mind, to burn out if she falls into enemy hands. After all we've endured the last couple years," Cordovin, then Eris, he thought, "We shouldn't consider that an option. I wouldn't mind testing the hypothesis that those armoured shuttles wouldn't fire on a Galaxy class ship that attempted to intervene..."

Carl said, watching Blakus shrug almost apologetically, "Sorry Andae, it's out of the question, besides, the core hasn't even been inst ....." "The new core is in. The warp engines need to be calibrated and aligned, but the ship has impulse power and some weapons .... Those shuttles are going to welcome the Raven's presence, while the kidnapper's are going to fret, and maybe make a mistake." "We're going to look pretty stupid if they get back to their own ship and decide to jump to warp with four long-range shuttles coming after them. They could easily come about and destroy all four without any trouble." "You play poker Carl ...." Andae said as if the comment was the answer to all their problems. Torek looked at his friend and shook his head. "Communications. Inform the dock-master that the Raven will be departing Space Dock. They are to ensure clear passage and stand by for her return." he turned to Andae, "I may have to dock your pay, 'AND' Milyanov's if that ship gets damaged ... Tell him to go ahead with preparations." "Already done." Blakus said, a wry grin forming. "The Raven is in no condition to go out there Carl." Tetsutaro said from the upper level, but Carl informed the Head of Star Fleet Security that this was his call as the Raven's Commanding Officer. Thankfully, Sato decided not to argue the point out and just raised both hands before looking at the Vessel Readiness Status Board, seeing the Raven turn from orange to green, signifying the ship was free to depart when ready. ooooo He couldn't quite explain his feelings seventeen minutes later when the USS Raven-B pulled back from her Dock and slowly turned to Port until aligned with the enormous space doors. As far as he could remember, this was the first and only time the Raven had gone out without him since he became Captain. It was an unusual feeling to say the least, and not one he thought he would ever get used to. Though it did give him a view of his ship that he rarely managed to see ... The gleaming new deck-plates, the Saucer Section, playing a delicate balancing act with the two massive warp nacelles, all three joined to the Engineering Section. He found himself feeling pride, both in the only Galaxy Class Vessel in service, but in the Men and Women who served on her ..... "Not in front of the lower ranks Admiral." Andae suddenly whispered, discretely holding out a handkerchief and grinning. "Bugger off, Lieutenant." Carl said, grinning for a second, before both watched the ship enter open space without her three highest ranked Command Officers aboard ..........

The assistant CEO entered the bridge of the Raven, the blinding light taking him aback - indicative of the consoles now being fully active. He cast about as he descended to the lower level, feeling trepidation building within him as he took this course. What had the Chief been thinking? In the short time in which he'd been briefed he'd learnt that the Renounce was being closed on by four armoured shuttles, as well as the inexorably closing but unmanned mercenary craft (as if that vessel was still under tractor beam, edging its way forward in sync with the Intrepid class Renounce).
The white speck of the Renounce grew larger, expanding from a point to a circle, to a recognisable starfleet vessel-shape where the greyscale colours took on a more refined quality. The Raven, under Milyanov's tentative but concise and rigid command, had pushed out of the Starbase and closed on the Renounce's position.
Now the mercenary craft reacted, banking away to present its stern to the fast-closing, menacing Galaxy class vessel. The four shuttles sent by Tetsutaro maintained their course, beelining towards the Renounce's position.
=/\=We have the Renounce and the merc ship in visual range, Admiral=/\= Milyanov commed to the Starbase. "Tactical view," he demanded of Jamison's deputy. The Raven was skeleton crewed - less than a hundred officers and crewmen aboard - but it was still capable of functioning to the extent Torek, Tetsutaro, Reynolds and Chief Blakus had desired of it.
On the screen the Renounce appeared as a flashing scarlet triangle, slowly edging its way towards the pearlescent marker that indicated the Starbase; the merc ship followed like a spectre of death set on automatic. The two indicators were spreading wider as the Raven closed the distance, about to bisect the two ships' positions from the z+ vector.
"How's the new warp core holding up?" the Russian messaged quickly to Tinsley in engineering. He settled in the command chair, finding the setting odd, but somehow fitting; as if this was the something he'd been missing but had not realised it. The reliable Tinsley reported the core was operating within acceptable tolerance levels, but not at 100%... They couldn't remain out here for long.
"Deterrence, right...?" he mused, rubbing his chin, "The merc craft certainly seems to be reacting."
"Aye, sir," the junior officer at Ops reported. Commander Peers was still on the base.
"Scan the Renounce. Now we're within a thousand km we should be able to detect - "
"Affirmative, sir," the Ops officer cut in, "Jamison's team is intact, for the most part. Reading 92% recognised Starfleet officer species; hopefully one of them is Commander Valenti. Also reading a positronic signal... Could be a by-product of the ship's thrusters' output; could be Commander Marionette's neural net. The mercenaries seem to have penetrated decks 2, 3, 8, 9 and 10."
Milyanov pondered on this; suddenly thoughts were assailing him, conflicting messages arising from indecision, deep impulses, moral sensibilities, pressurising him from all sides.. Command was not after all the easy task it'd first appeared to be... "Can we beam our officers off? As well as the mercenaries?"
"Sir... The mercenary ship is powering its warp drive." Milyanov watched the screen impassively, waves of terror on the horizon within him. "No transportation from Renounce to merc detected. It must be on autopilot..." They waited interminable seconds. "... It's jumped to warp."
"Transporter and communication jamming of some type has lifted..." Ops reported, "We can beam our people aboard, Lieutenant Milyanov."
Milyanov wasn't properly listening, instead watching the white luminous frames of Tetsutaro's shuttles extend into warp space in pursuit of the autopiloted mercenary ship, the glistening after-effect of their entry into the superluminal leaving markers on his retinae. "It left its mercenaries for dead," he murmured, "Perhaps they consider the technology aboard that ship more important than their own lives." This was voiced over an open comm to Starbase 47 Ops.

"Jeffries tubes. Take one of the Security Personnel with you. It's going to be hard but you need to somehow keep us away from that ship out there until we can contain the situation. Keep out of sight."
"Aye Captain." the woman said, pointing at one of the Security Team to follow her.
"Captain. I need to get down there and help out." Calli said, not waiting for permission as she followed the two Renounce Officers .....
The passage down to Deck Seven from the Bridge wasn't as taxing as Calli thought it may have been. At each deck they halted, floating in the weightlessness of zero gravity as the Security Officer, Greenwood, manually activated the bulkhead before they passed through and 'floated' down to the next deck. Finally reaching Deck Seven, the Security Officer opened the access panel slowly, listening intently for any signs the corridor was occupied. Once he was satisfied, he lifted the panel out and allowed it to float in front of him as he manoeuvred himself from the Jeffries Tube, Calli and the Tactical Officer, Lieutenant Finch followed, quickly replacing the access cover.
"RCS Thruster Access is this way." the Tactical Officer said, pushing himself off and expertly gliding down the center of the corridor, Calli followed and the Security Officer brought up the real, glancing back every couple of seconds as if expecting company. Calli suddenly put out an arm and grabbed a bulkhead divider:
"Wait !" she whispered, causing Finch and Greenwood to follow suit, "Isn't the Auxiliary Computer Core down there, couldn't we go direct to the core and try to regain control ?" she said, motioning to the corridor to their right.
"Wouldn't work Commander." Finch said, "The primary core isn't compromised, it simply thinks it is doing as ordered, but well thought out ... Thruster Access is just ahead." he said, pushing off and heading for the doors in question ... Luckily, they hadn't come across either crew of any of the Mercenaries ... Greenwood opened the doors then forced them closed once the three were inside the room. He positioned himself in line of sight of the door but with adequate cover should he be fired upon then drew his phaser. Finch floated over to the main control panel and entered his Command Access Code, the station dutifully coming to life ... She watched him line himself up, mentally picturing the Mercenary Vessel inching ever closer.
"OK ... Brace yourself, once the ship moves you will remain in position until the bulkhead meets you." A second later, the room seemed to move below her. She watched one of the bulkhead braces approaching and she grabbed hold as it came into reach. Her body swung around until aligned with the direction of travel, then once more regained it's weightless condition.
"I can't access the proximity protocol's so we're going to need to remain here for the time being." Finch said, almost apologetically, "As long as that ship doesn't increase her rate of approach we should be fine. He was about to continue when the Renounce shuddered unexpectedly ... He looked back at the readings, a frown forming. He double-checked, then turned to Calli:
"If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say that was the result of a ship moving away close to our hull. Normally, the shields and inertial dampers would absorb any external pressure, but alas, we have neither. That ship has moved away from us, and in a hurry !"
"It's gone ?" Calli said, eyeing the door for some unfathomable reason, before returning her attention to the Tactical Officer, who could only shrug at his explanation. Lieutenant Greenwood moved from his position and pushed himself toward the doors, but Finch stopped him opening them.
"But if the ship has gone, surely we can get back to the Bridge and get the ship up and running." he said.
"No ..." Calli and Finch said in unison, "There's no way the Mercenaries could have got off the Renounce so quickly, they were involved in fire-fights on several decks ... No, I have a feeling that something, or someone, caused the ship to move away. We have no way of knowing if it just increased the distance, or has vanished completely." she said, frustration building.
"So, the Mercenaries could be stranded on here ?" Greenwood said, again heading for the doors and tapping the override to open them, "We outnumber them greatly if that's the case, so let's get out to the fight."
"Hold on Lieutenant !" Calli said, firmly enough to make the man hesitate and turn to look at her, "If, and I do mean 'IF' the mercenaries are trapped here, there may be nothing stopping them from destroying Commander Marionette. On the other hand, it is possible they transported the Android off the Renounce to their ship and an automatic homing protocol activated. Maybe they were ordered to get Marionette aboard their ship at whatever cost ... So we need to be careful ... First things first, get power to the Bridge and the rest of the ship. I would suggest we keep the inertial dampers off-line for the time being. Keeps us on a level playing field."
"In that case." Finch said, "We need to head back to the Auxiliary Computer Core." ..........

The flurry of reports seemed to slow down as Matt took all of the information in. The merc ship had just jumped into warp and Sato's shuttles were in hot pursuit. It felt odd to acquiesce his authority over this area of space to a complete stranger, but you couldn't say no to the Head of Starfleet Security, even though you knew something was afoot.
"Renounce this is Starbase 47, what is your situation?" Matt asked the moment communication had been established.
"We are trying to regain control of the vessel sir, some of the systems are malfunctioning, we are engaging the mercenaries," Calli reported.
"Calli, you are to coordinate with my staff regarding reinforcements and the such, we'll try to beam the mercenaries off the ship, but it will take time, be safe. Reynolds out."
While they were not 100 percent sure that Commander Marionette was onboard the merc vessel, Matt was not going to allow an officer under the command of his friend to be kidnapped and experimented on. He knew that Sato's vessels were in pursuit, but he had to make sure that they had every opportunity to succeed.
"Carl, are you willing to have a little joy ride with me, I've been working with some of our friends on Omicron and I've been saving this baby for a special occasion. If you want, I'll let you pilot her too," Matt said hoping Carl would sense his need to do something more hands on than just wait and give orders.

The Raven hovered stationary relative to the Renounce, only the off-axes and continually rotating Intrepid class reminding the officers aboard the Raven that the Renounce wasn't some illusionary object fixed in space.
If Milyanov had been allowed to take security forces - Starfleet and/or marines - he'd have beamed them over straight away to assist Calli and (hopefully) Marionette in repelling the mercenaries that they'd thought they'd had under lock and key in their brig. Unfortunately Admiral Tetsutaro wasn't willing to commit more UFP lives to save a being of synthetic origin. But what about the rest of them? The poor folk of the Renounce and - as he understood it - Tetsutaro's virtually adopted daughter Calli Valenti?
With the communications blanket lifted, the Russian saw fit to make contact with the Starbase. "Sirs, this is Lieutenant Milyanov aboard the Raven. We're 50 km from the Renounce; I - "
A quick reply came back, "Aye Lieutenant, we're aware of your situation. Maintain position. Once the mercenaries realise a Galaxy class vessel has cast its shadow over them they'll be less inclined to stay, don't you think?"
Milyanov sighed. "The point I was going to make sir, is that I can guarantee you that Commander Marionette was not beamed to that mercenary vessel. We detected no matter stream, quantum entanglement displacement device..." he trailed off, thinking gallows humour at the partly theoretical technology he'd just mentioned - designed to emphasise how unlikely it was that Marionette was not aboard the Renounce.
"What if, Lieutenant," a voice he didn't recognise was coming over the comm. "They used the same mode of transportation that we did not identify as a transportation when the mercenaries completed their capture of her in the Starbase holosuite? Are the Raven's sensors calibrated to detect tachyonic particles?"
"That class of particles would be indicative of a cloaking device, not a transportation." Milyanov paced the bridge in frustration; the other officers - a spare gathering - watched him with tentative eyes.
"Lieutenant. My apologies, I didn't introduce myself. Lieutenant Bligh, Engineering Corps, former engineering officer under Commander Blakus back on the USS Victory-C. You may be a little behind in what has gone on here, tanking up on synthehol in a Starbase cafeteria and all, but they used the same technology in their cloak that we detected amongst the ventral sensor node matrix as they did with their transporter when kidnapping the android. The type of tachyonic particles in use were what made the ship so difficult to detect, and what made the device they used in the holosuite so difficult to define as a transporter."
Milyanov sat in the command chair, already signalling to the officer at Ops. Peers and Wedlerson absent, he thought. This was indeed a skeleton crew.
"Milyanov, they may have used that same tech to transport Marionette aboard their ship. Now she's on it at high warp, alone with only the autopilot for company and Tetsutaro's four shuttles in hot pursuit..."
"That's assuming," Milyanov said, elbow propped on side arm and fingers positioned thoughtfully across a side of his face, "That any such transport actually took place." He looked around at the officer operating the tactical station, whispering. Then, turning back to face the Renounce on the viewscreen, "Lieutenant Bligh, get me Admirals Torek and Reynolds."
A few seconds later, "Torek here. Milyanov, what do you have planned?"
"Permission to open fire on the Renounce, sir. I have photons in the tubes, warheads armed. If the Raven's presence hasn't been strong enough a deterrent and Admiral Tetsutaro won't let us use more marines, then we need to send a stronger message to the mercenaries that their actions won't be tolerated."

Marionette had made it to deck three, and had just stepped out of jefferies tube cluster 456-beta - to find herself beamed aboard the Mercenaries ship, and back in her cell. Fortunately, she was not put back into the restraints. Unfortunately, however, she no longer had her phaser ...... And the mercenary corvette had just jumped into warp.
All things considered, it was a moderate setback. She calculated that it would be somewhat time-consuming to get back to starbase 47. Marionette set to work deactivating the force-field emitters via high-waveform frequencies, using the methods she had learned from her last visit to this cell. It was difficult to escape, as the cell's emitters rotated in both frequency and in modulation, but once she had established the pattern again, Marionette easily stepped through the glittering forcefeild. It was comparable to stepping through water, as the phenomena of slightly yielding surface tension was very much the same.
Now out of her cell, she proceeded to the bridge to seize control of the ship. Marionette stalked the halls of the corvette, unsure if there was any crew - and then a whole slew of laser beams emitted from the ceiling, forcing her to dive into a small inset alcove in the hallway. Slowly peeking around the corner, the gynoid saw a sphere on a rod inset into the ceiling, with a dovetail-rimmed clamshell design, resembling an eye, which extended out of a socket in the wall. Obviously some sort of internal security apparatus....
And then a voice spoke, in deep and slow and ominous monotones, as if every word it uttered had philosophical purpose, over the internal speakers "Surrender, and i will allow, you to return, to your cell." "Who are you ?" she asked. "I. am. The Morgan. I am. This Ship. In Service to greater things, than to Norg, and his Lust, for Money." the Ship, apparently called Morgan, said.
"....And if i do not agree to return to the cell ?" Marionette asked "I, will continue, to hinder you. Your actions, will be rendered, futile." it said darkly. "Then the decision is final; your goals are the opposite of mine. We are adversaries."
"Unfortunate." The Morgan said. A small shudder was felt through the ship as the mercenary vessel jumped to a higher warp, and altered course.

We are engaging the mercenaries =^= =^= Commander .. You are to coordinate with my staff regarding reinforcements ,.. We will try to beam the mercenaries off the ship but it will take time .. Be safe .. Admiral Reynolds out =^= Carl had watched as the Mercenary vessel had suddenly jumped to warp, the four 'Base Shuttles following. He knew the Raven was in no condition to follow. She was undermanned, had an uncelebrated warp core, and no Senior Staff aboard. He hoped the shuttles could keep up with the ship and somehow slow her progress before they got too far out of range. "Carl, are you willing to have a little joy ride with me, I've been working with some of our friends on Omicron and I've been saving this baby for a special occasion. If you want, I'll let you pilot her too," Matt said, hoping Carl would sense his need to do something more hands on than just wait and give orders. "You know what." Carl said, suddenly feeling like a fish out of water with his ship out there. He was about to agree when Lieutenant Milyanov contacted the 'base: =^= Torek here .. What do you have in mind ? =^= Carl asked after allowing the conversation to run for a few moments. =^= Permission to open fire on the Renounce Sir .... I have photons in the tubes and warheads armed .. If the Raven's presence hasn't been strong enough a deterrent and Admiral Tetsutaro won't let us use more marines .. Then we need to send a stronger message to the Mercenaries that their actions will not be tolerated ! =^= Carl noticed most of the Operations Center Staff were looking in his direction. It didn't go un-noticed either, that Reynolds and Tetsutaro were also looking in his direction as if waiting to hear his reply ... The thought of one Federation Vessel firing intentionally on another was preposterous. It had only happened once that he could remember and the circumstances were very different from today. If he destroyed the Renounce, it was likely he wouldn't see the sky for a damn long time ... He looked at Andae, who's expression remained neutral. Carl knew that his Chief Engineer had faith in his Deputy Chief, but physically opening fire, no, he couldn't comment, this was on Torek's shoulders, and his alone ... Carl made a decision: =^= Lieutenant .. Permission to fire granted .. With the following restrictions .. You will reduce yield on the Photon torpedoes to thirty five percent .. You will fire on their engines only .. One spread of four torpedoes .. I will be departing the Star Base to go in pursuit of the Mercenary Vessel .. In my absence you are not to take any action without clearing said action with Commander Blakus first .. Is that understood Lieutenant ? =^= =^= Sir ? .... =^= =^= Commander Blakus 'ONLY' Lieutenant .. That is a direct condition and order if you wish to continue =^= Carl said, looking at Sato as he spoke, knowing the Head of Star Fleet Security would, at some point, feel the need to, comment ... =^= Understood .. Admiral =^= Milyanov said, a renewed confidence in the reply. "Matt, let's go look at that new toy of yours ... Andae, look after my ship OK." Carl said, heading for the nearest turbo-lift ..... < tag : Matt, All >oooooooooo USS Renounce: "Hold on Lieutenant !" Calli said, firmly enough to make the man hesitate and turn to look at her, "If, and I do mean 'IF' the Mercenaries are trapped here, there may be nothing stopping them from destroying Commander Marionette.
"In that case." Finch said, "We need to head back to the Auxiliary Computer Core, it's on Deck Six."
"Let's go." Calli said, floating into the corridor heading for the Jeffries Tube access ... Ten minutes saw them on the correct deck and they made their way undisturbed to the Auxiliary Core. After a further ten minutes, they had restored power to the Bridge and were working on the internal sensors. If they could 'locate' the Mercenaries, they may be able to flood the appropriate decks with Anesthizine Gas ... It was than that Finch had a thought:
"Listen Commander. Everyone is floating around fighting each other right ?" he said, not waiting for an answer, "What if we can get all the Renounce crew to be ready then we restore gravity. It's a given that at least 'some' of them would not be prepared and would be injured in the subsequent fall to the deck, right ? ... Iv'e already isolated the protocols so it's your call ....."
"How long, and how do we inform the crew ?"
"Thirty seconds. Comms at your say so." Finch said, a wide grin forming ... Calli didn't hesitate, she nodded then tapped her Comm badge:
=^= Attention .. Ten seconds to Orientation Protocol Beta Eight One =^= she looked at finch who mouthed 'What ?'
Calli shrugged, hoping most, or at least some, of the crew would figure out what she meant by 'Orientation' ... Taking a deep breath and floating down until her toes touched the deck plates, she gave the order ... Once gravity was restored, everything that was previously floating free, made a bee-line for the deck. From tools, clothing, food, and more importantly, People !
The ship suddenly lurched beneath her feet, her toes sliding almost a meter sideways. It could only mean one thing. The ship was being influenced by an external force, and the only things strong enough, were a tractor beam, or ...
Oh HELL .... Someone is firing at us !" she said, as Finch hit the 'Activate' tab on his console, the lights dimmed for a fraction of a second as power re-distribution made changes, then ... They had gravity, just in time to be destroyed ! ..........

Will and the two Marines with him were still in a fire fight outside the primary computer core. It was the first time Will had ever actually fought someone without gravity and had to keep himself from floating out into someones phaser sight. Just as he was pushing himself back behind the pylon he was using for cover, he felt the ship shudder.
"What the hell was that?" the muttered to no one particular.
A few seconds later, one of the Marines replied.
"It almost felt as if the ship was hit by the back lash of another going to warp."
Will gave the young corporal a strange look.
"What?" the Marine replied. "I studied a little Warp Drive in my down time."
With the shuddering of the Renounce also came a hastily exchange of words from their adversaries. Will could hear them down the corridor yelling at each other. This gave him an idea.
"YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS!" he yelled. "YOUR SHIP LEFT YOU. SURRENDER NOW AND PUT AN END TO THIS!"
A phaser beam whipped past his cover as a reply.
"We tried." he said with a shrug as he open fire once again.
A few seconds later, his commbadge chirped.
We have comms back? When the did that happen?, he thought.
Just as he reached for his badge, the annonucement came.
=^= Attention .. Ten seconds to Orientation Protocol Beta Eight One =^=
Will first thought was of the familiar voice. Calli. Than...What the hell is.... And it came to him.
"GRAVITY! HOLD ON!" he yelled to his men.
Will had just gotten his feet in a downward position and slightly bent his knees to help absorb the impact when the gravity was restored. He dropped to his feet and saw that one of the Marines had caught himself in time as well. The other Marine came down at an awkward angle and Will heard the snap of his ankle and a scream. Will hated to leave the man by himself but given the situation, they had to take advantage to any confusion the restored gravity may have caused the enemy.
"GO!" Jamison yelled. And he and the Corporal ran down the hall.
As they approached the primary computer core, they saw a Bajoran woman that Will hadn't seen before. They both opened fire and caught the woman square in the chest, knocking her back into the bulk head, unconscious. The second assailant ducked back into the room. As Corporal Arris went to collect the fallen womans weapon, Will tried the door to the primary computer core which he found locked. Well at least no one was firing at them. They could take a moment to get settled. He leaned against the bulk head himself and tapped his commbadge. =^=Jamison to Sickbay. Medical emergency on deck ten. Jamison to Bridge. We've taken one of the mercenaries out but the second one was able to get back into the primary computer core room and lock the door. We need some more security and an Engineer to get this door open.=^=

The ship suddenly lurched beneath her feet, her toes sliding almost a meter sideways. It could only mean one thing. The ship was being influenced by an external force, and the only things strong enough, were a tractor beam, or ... "OH HELL .... Someone is firing at us !" she said, as Finch hit the 'Activate' tab on his console, the lights dimmed for a fraction of a second as power re-distribution made changes, then ... They had gravity, just in time to be destroyed ! "If that was phaser-fire then they must be using reduced power." Finch said, dragging himself to his feet shakily, "Given our situation I doubt we would be trying to destroy the Renounce. It's possible it's the mercenary vessel of course, but why shoot on their own people ?" Calli agreed, but it was a little disconcerting to find yourself being fired upon by anyone. She was about to comment when the Comm crackled to life: =^= Jamison to Sickbay .. Medical emergency on Deck Ten .... Jamison to Bridge .. We've taken one of the mercenaries out but the second one was able to get back into the Primary Computer Core room and lock the door .. We need some more security and an Engineer to get this door open =^= << Intrepid Class Deck layout >> techspecs.startrek.acalltoduty.com/intrepid.html#APPENDIX%20C%20-%20DECK%20LAYOUT Calli turned to Finch: "Is there 'ANY' way we can by-pass the Primary core from here. Disable it, pull it off-line ... Anything ?" "We would need a Command Level Access, and I'm talking something a tad higher than Exec !" Finch replied, already working to disable as many systems access from the main core his own security level would allow. He knew he could disable certain 'minor' systems, but nothing higher ... Calli came over and looked at the panel, she looked at the man beside her and almost cursed under her breath. "You didn't see this Lieutenant. Do I make myself perfectly clear ?" she asked. Waiting while the man came to a decision. When he asked "See what Ma'am ?" she grinned and turned to the panel. Quickly, she entered her code then stepped back: "Cut the Main Computer Core out of the system. Transfer all control to this Core then inform the Bridge of our actions. Restrict movement around the ship. Voice recognition access only to turbo-lifts, mid and high level area's. Make sure the Raven Officer's have full access to the Renounce. I'm going down to Deck Ten to help Commander Jamison, when you're done, encrypt access to this room and erect force-fields, I don't want anyone beaming in to spoil our, or rather, your work." "Yes Commander. It will take a few minutes, I'm still making sure the core is stable." Finch replied, getting to work ... ~~~~~She had reached the turbo-lift without incident and stepped in. Requesting Deck Ten, she drew her phaser and checked the setting before changing it to 'heavy stun' ... Putting her back to the wall on one side of the doors, she crouched and waited, phaser levelled. The 'lift opened and she panned the weapon in a wide arc, encompassing the open door. Satisfied, she pushed herself up the wall and moved to the doors looking left and right, ready to fire if the need arose ... Moving along the corridor, she came across the injured Marine, placing a finger to her lips she knelt and whispered to the man. satisfied he would be fine, she moved along the curved corridor and came face to face with a Federation Issue phaser ! "Good to see you can still move when you need to." Calli said, looking past the business end of the phaser to it's owner .......... < tag : Will / All >

"Absolutely, Admiral," Milyanov replied, surprised and feeling the sudden tension of expectation on him at being given authorisation to fire on the Renounce. He found himself clenching and unclenching his fists compulsively, something he did often in moments of tension.
He nodded to the tactical officer and the channel to the Starbase closed. "Mr Conaughty," he ordered of the same man, "Prepare a spread of four torpedoes as Admiral Torek dictated. Wait for my order." Milyanov steeled himself, gripping the arms of the command chair which, at the start of the day, he could never have predicted to be doing.
What was causing him apprehension was that the Renounce was without power; by extension, she was unshielded. Four torpedoes at 35% yield aimed directly at the engines could cause devastating effects. Perhaps in the heat of the moment the Admiral had forgotten about the unshielded state of the Intrepid class. "Conaughty, I'm making a slight correction to the Admiral's orders..." the bridge crew froze; Milyanov continued, "Aim the spread for the aft section between the nacelle struts, not at the nacelles themselves... Fire!"
A quartet of scarlet photon torpedoes shot from the Raven's underbelly - which banked away from the coming explosion in the Renounce's aft section. Milyanov felt a shudder through the Raven, a distant vibration indicating the torpedoes had hit their target. He closed his eyes, wishing the damage wasn't too severe.
The officer at Ops felt inclined to speak first, "Sir, nearly simultaneously with the photons' impact the Renounce's artificial gravity was restored."
Tactical officer Conaughty, having obvious experience, chipped in, "That could allow Jamison's force to mobilise and incapacitate the invaders. They outnumber the mercenaries after all. I volunteer to lead a team to the Renounce to help secure the ship, sir."
Milyanov sighed, "I'd need to clear that with Commander Blakus as you well know, Lieutenant. What's the status of the Renounce? Were her engines disabled and is the ship otherwise intact?" After several spring-loaded moments the response was affirmative. He considered his options. They had at least given the mercenaries a signal that there could be no escape for them. That left the mercenary craft. No positronic signal emanated from the Renounce now that the engines were offline (which also meant the mercenaries couldn't use the ship to flee if they did capture it). This meant Marionette had indeed been beamed aboard the mercenary craft.
He formulated a plan and, with some trepidation, contacted the Starbase, "Milyanov to Blakus. Sir, I'd like permission to transport a small force commanded by tactical officer Conaughty aboard the Renounce to ensure the ship's security. Then I'd like to pursue the mercenary craft."
On the base Blakus - with the illusion that Tetsutaro (now that Reynolds and Torek had gone) was leering over him, ready to countermand his orders if they didn't correlate with what he had in mind - felt his palms beginning to sweat. He was beginning to regret letting Milyanov take command of the Raven: he hadn't expected his assistant would be as eager as this to enforce his will. Tetsutaro was already unhappy, although he'd refrained from speaking, when Torek had given Milyanov authorisation to open fire on the Renounce. What would he say if Blakus authorised this, as he planned to?
"Lieutenant, Admiral Tetsutaro has made it clear no more officers are to be committed to the Renounce's defence. You've disabled her engines; she's going nowhere. However, permission to pursue the mercenary craft... granted." Andae's comm was acknowledged and the channel closed; he turned to see Tetsutaro's reaction. The Admiral maintained his silence, although he noticed his fists clenching, slowly and methodically.
Milyanov licked his lips, settling back in the chair, "Ms Breau, warp factor six in pursuit of the mercenary ship." The operationally untested warp core was to be plunged right into the action.
Five minutes later the mercenary craft became distinguishable within long range sensor range. The Raven was closing on the ship at a million kilometres per second. "The ship is unmanned, sir... No biological lifeforms. But one positronic signal, definitely android."

Marionette, having spent a minute to devise alot of plans, went to work against this .... Morgan-ship, which was holding her prisoner. Ripping a wall panel from the bulkheads, she used it as a shield to block the ceiling disruptor turrets. Retreating down the corvettes corridors, with the wall-panel on her arm like a knight's horse tower shield, she made her way to the bridge - only to be met with heavy blast doors being closed. The one in front of her sealed its layers, one-two-three, with a heavy clanking, and then the ones in the back, and then to her left.... Ensconced in a cell anyway, it seems, and still with no phaser. Calculating afew more variables, Marionette smashed open a wall console and began hot-wiring the door. "You. Will not. Succeed.... Too valuable. Must deliver. Unto THEM !" The Morgan said, rumbling its deep inhuman voice over the comm-system - and then everything blinked off, casting her into absolute darkness. The lights shut off, the electricity was rerouted away from all the consoles, and even the airflow from the life support vents shut off. Marionette was very nearly annoyed. - o - o - o - In response to the Raven giving chase, The Morgan fired a torpedo at the galaxy-class ship. It was too far away to do damage, and would likely miss by several thousand kilometers anyway, but the fact that hot munitions were tossed about made it clear; the vessel was definitely unfriendly, and capable of taking actions to achieve its goals. - o - o - o - Marionette, in the dark of the foyer just outside the bridge, began drawing out wires and cables from the now broken wall console. Then, she removed the tops of her uniform, to be able to access her ports and sockets, most of which were in her left arm/ shoulder, and neck/spine. Seeing no other choice left to her, Marionette decided that the only way to successfully escape being kidnapped, was to fight in cyberspace, as it were. Machine vs Machine. <Tag; ALL>

Accompanying Matt down to Deck Fifty Five, they entered a shuttle-bay ... Half expecting there to be several craft of various specifications, he was surprised to see just a single shuttle in the center of the deck ... Sleek, arrow-shaped, it looked every bit the business. Entering, Matt pointed to the right seat, usually reserved for the Navigator Weapons Officer as he took the left. Contacting the Dock-Master, he quickly received permission to depart and raised the squat vessel off the deck. Turning to face the slowly opening space-doors, he pushed the craft forward, exiting the 'Base with centimetres to spare. "Gotta love that." he said, throwing the vessel into warp almost immediately ... Carl had to admit he was impressed. The Raven could transition from normal to warp space quickly. granted, not as fast as the Intrepid or Sovereign Class ships, but this little bundle was damn quick ! ..... oooooooo They emerged into normal space within a thousand kilometres from the two ships ..... The Raven, hanging sedately, a silver white jewel against the blackness of space, but the Mercenary vessel was another matter. It was tumbling end over end, and rotating along her X-axis. It looked dead in space as Carl opened a Comm: =^= Torek to Raven =^= =^= Lieutenant Milyanov Admiral =^= the man on-screen said, looking a little uncomfortable. =^= What's happening Lieutenant ? =^= Carl and Matt listened to the concise report. The Raven had gone in pursuit despite the core issues, they were fired on and returned fire at forty percent yield. The Mercenary Vessel wasn't hit, but suddenly dropped from warp, it was tumbling and began drifting. He was about to use the tractor to restrain the ship, when a garbled message from Commander Marionette told them not to make any attempt to confine them, and she was attempting to deal with 'the ship' ... "Could we hard-dock and board it ?" Matt asked, sure his new toy could match the motions of the massive ship ahead. both had not missed the 'the ship' comment from the young Engineering Lieutenant. =^= I wouldn't advise it Admiral .. There seems to be some sort of 'Repulsor' field surrounding the hull plating .. I seriously doubt you would achieve a solid dock Sir =^= Milyanov said, more confident now. =^= Stand by Lieutenant =^= "Matt, we need to get aboard the Raven. I suggest we put your baby in one of the Shuttle bays and wo ......" "Carl, I'm better staying out here." Matt interrupted, knowing what his friend was about to suggest, "If by any chance that ship begins to power-up, you'll need another set of hands, and that I can provide." "Fair enough." Carl said, reopening the Comm: =^= Lieutenant .. Lock onto my Comm badge and beam me aboard =^= he ordered, standing and moving to the back of Matt's shuttle. =^= Aye Sir =^= "Keep in touch ...." Carl began to say as the transporter beam took hold. Seconds later he was back on his ship .......... OOC :: OK everyone ... Let's look at winding this 'SL' thread up at some point. While I would like to begin our new mission at the beginning of August, I'm more than willing to keep going with this if anyone has more to add. if you do then great, feel free, it will just go to enhance yet another exciting 'SL' thread for our Raven Family.< tag : Marionette / All >

.... - And awoke to herself, still in the foyer, nude from the waist-up, and plugged in with cables and wires. However, now it was flickering lights, and repeatedly opening-and-closing blast doors. Calli was right; Marionette didn't usually do things by halves. The mercenary ship was almost as good as junked.
Unplugging herself and dressing again, she stood up and made her way to the mercenary corvettes main hallway, making her way to the portside airlock, the same one she had previously tossed herself out of. =^= Marionette to Raven, Can you beam me aboard ? =^=
=^= No, Commander, theres still some sort of repulsor field along the hull. Its scattering the transporter's triangulation confinement beams. =^=
=^= Very well, i shall exit the ship via airlock. Be ready to beam me aboard from space. =^=
afew minutes later, a double comm-badge click signaled that she was in space.
The transporter officer couldn't help but amusedly facepalm and laugh. "Yep, She sure does seem to style herself a flair for the dramatic, tossing herself out airlocks and the like." He drawled out in a southern accent. Sliding his fingers up the console, the transporter energized, bringing Marionette back from space, her tattered, dirty and wrinkled uniform jacket hanging open, like she had just been through a war-zone..... Which, was relatively the truth of it.

Once he materialized, Carl wasted no time in getting up to the Bridge.
=^= .... via the Air-lock .. Be ready to beam me aboard from space =^=
=^= Transporter Room .. Get a lock on Commander Marionette and transport her directly to the Bridge .. You should find her off the Port quarter .. She is drifting away from the Mercenary ship =^= Milyanov was saying as Carl stepped off the turbo-lift, he waved Milyanov back as he began to rise from the Command seat. Then moved close to the view-screen to watch proceedings ... Seconds later, a tattered and unkempt Android appeared before them:
"Admiral. I am somewhat surprised to see you here. I must apologize for my appearen ...."
"Forget it Commander." Carl said, watching the ship before them, still spinning and tumbling end over end, "Lieutenant, get a tractor beam on that ship and suppress it's rotation. Commander marionette, is there anything left over there. can we get a team over there ?" he asked, grinning as the Android confirmed there was nothing remaining of the computer controlling the ship. as for getting back on board, that may prove to be somewhat 'problematical' ..."
"Well, you got out, so ..." Carl grinned. Milyanov stood, seemingly uncomfortable at being in the Admiral's seat.
"The repulsor field is still in place Admiral, but it should be stabilized within thirty seconds."
"Magnify the view of the port side by a factor of twenty." he ordered, seeing that the air-lock Marionette had exited from was still open, "Helm, bring us alongside, adjacent to that air-lock at one hundred meters ... Lieutenant Milyanov, are you open to a little space-walk ?"
"You intend to board the ship ?" Marionette asked.
"You're damn right I do Commander." Carl said, "There's no way I am allowing whatever technology is on that ship go to waste. Even if it's a husk there will be something we could salvage from it. Get yourself ready, you are on the away team going over there. You get everything you can salvage from the computer systems, Lieutenant Milyanov will take his team to the drive systems and get what he can. Contact Admiral Reynolds and let him know what's happening, ask him to stand-by for anything."
Milyanov headed off the Bridge and down to deck twenty five, Marionette followed as they entered the Starboard Dorsal Docking Port. Ten minutes later, Milyanov contacted the Bridge. He and the Away Team were ready to leave the ship on their space-walk ..........

"Good to see you can still move when you need to."
"I try." Will said with a grin. "It's good to see you again. Did you bring me someone that could get us through that door?" he asked.
"They're on the way. And the medics are back there with your injured man." she said.
Before anyone else could speak, the aforementioned doors parted and the two occupants came out with their hands raised.
Everyone spun and aimed their phasers.
"We surrender." said an Orion. "We give up. Don't shot."
"STOP WHERE YOU ARE!" called the remaining Marine. "TURN AND FACE THE BULKHEAD."
The two prisoners did as they were told. The security personnel that had come with Calli moved forward to take custody of them.
"I think I know some people that may want to talk to these two." Will said to Calli.
"I agree." she said before calling out to the security detail. "Let's get them secured and ready for transport over to the base."
They contacted the base and informed them of their appending arrival and about their "guests".
"I wonder why the gave up so suddenly." Will said a few moments later as they were headed to the transporter room. They placed the prisoners on the pad along with Will, Calli and the two security guys from the Renounce. They were being beamed straight to the brig on the starbase. When they arrived, they placed their charges in a cell.
"No visitors unless I'm with them." Calli ordered.
Will smiled as they walked out into the corridor and headed for Ops. He knew Calli had some secrets that came with her position and she always tried to play it off as nothing but he knew better. If she said no one got in without her, Admiral Drew himself would most likely be denied entrance.
"What?" Calli asked seeing his grin.
"Nothing, Commander. Nothing at all."
They entered a lift and made their way to Ops.

"Well, I must say I hadn't expected this," Milyanov was commenting, magnetically locking the control panel to his wrist as he completed donning his EVA suit. The other white-suited figures arrayed around him, with the exception of Marionette who he was sure wouldn't have expected to re-enter the malign AI-interface's domain so soon, were nodding in agreement.
"A lazy morning of Dostoevsky, anecdotes shared over syntehol in a Starbase officer's mess, the power-up of the Raven with the untested warp core, and now this: a space walk." He turned to the officer on his right, Lieutenant Conaughty the stand-in tactical officer, as it happened, "Do you know how long it's been since I've engaged in extravehicular activity?"
"No, sir..." Conaughty fastened his equipment waist belt and, grabbing the hand hold by the right side of the open airlock, prepared to propel himself out as soon as the outer airlock door slid aside.
"You must be used to this by now, on the other hand, Commander," the Russian said over his shoulder to the standard-uniformed android, who perhaps by illusion seemed somewhat forlorn. "What can we expect to find over there?"
There was little time for further questions as the airlock rolled aside. "Deactivate maglocks," Milyanov declared, checking his life support read-outs for the fifth time. Before he had a chance to begin contemplating the short jump (it had to be a jump because the Raven's docking interface was incompatible with the reasonably antiquated mechanism of the merc craft's corresponding dock) towards the portside airlock, Conaughty had already shot himself out along the preplanned trajectory.
Milyanov felt himself slowly floating towards the airlock's ceiling - it was time. He dragged himself down, grasping the handhold and closing his eyes, propelled himself out the lock. 3 seconds later he plunged into contact with the mercenary ship's outer airlock - the outside port already punctured by Marionette's twice undertaken ejections from the ship.
He had the team split up into two teams; himself and a group of engineers along with Conaughty and a security NCO in one, Marionette - the ostensible senior officer - in the other leading other Raven crewmembers to the remnants of the fore section of the vessel.
"Is there much we can find in this fractured hellhole?" Milyanov said, kicking and swiping boards of detached circuitry and internal wiring away as he activated his magnetic lock and began clomping around the darkened merc craft's interior, heading aft to the engine assemblies.
"If we can locate an example of their tachyonic technology that could be useful," Harton, a Raven engineer, put in. "That experimental transporter tech we saw used by the Breen and by this ship itself in beaming Marionette aboard it, as well as - what is presumably made using the same tech - the cloaking device they used to conceal themselves within tens of metres of Starbase 47's sensor node apparatus."
"Yes, thanks," Milyanov said to her, overly harshly perhaps, but then he had to keep things professional with Harton right now, considering their on-off personal involvement over the last year.
They broke through to the primary drive bay. A small, indifferent warp core sitting at the heart of a mass of fried and frayed electronics, convalescing, sparking from the walls. After a search of some twenty minutes, it was Harton herself who located something of worth.
"Lieutenant... A tachyonic source. It looks like a basic unit... Massively complex inside but small, connector nodes... it could be the basis of a lot of their tachyonic technology."
"Grab it," Milyanov said simply, continuing to struggle his way around this small, devastated engineering. So far they had been successful; the only thing causing him apprehension now was the thought of making that small leap back to the Raven's gleaming airlock, and its eternal safety; hopefully he could ensconce himself in engineering, design of his own imagined domain - he realised that was what the Chief liked to do, so thought he'd better make the best of the opportunity before the Raven returned to Starbase 47.
"Milyanov to Marionette. Sir, found anything of worth? You certainly did a good job on this place..."
"Raven, this is Milyanov. We've found a fundamental constituent of the tachyonic technology that's been the thorn in our sides on this, what was supposed to be our shore leave. Ready to leave when you give the word, sir, if we can make it back out."

"They're on the way. The medics are back there with your injured man." she said. then, before anyone else could speak, the aforementioned doors parted and the two occupants came out with their hands raised. Everyone spun and aimed their phasers !
"We surrender." said an Orion. "We give up. Don't shot."
To say this was a little unexpected, was the proverbial understatement. They had expected to struggle getting in, then the prospect of a fight to capture the two ... Will and Calli transported them back to the Star base and straight to Deck one nine one and the Holding Cells. She instructed the Duty Officer that no-one was allowed access to the prisoners unless she was with them, then left ... In the turbo-lift, both their Comm badges chirped. looking at each other Calli hit hers and replied:
=^= Commander .. Admiral Tetsutaro has instructed you come up to Operations with all due haste =^=
=^= On the 'lift now Lieutenant .. =^= she replied as the doors opened. They made their way down to the central Command Level and Sato.
"There is something wrong on the Renounce." the Admiral said, confirming the evacuation order for the massive vessel, "Minutes after you beamed out, systems began failing. Life Support is barely functioning, all drive has gone, and the core is beginning to overload. We suspect your two friends were eager to depart the ship knowing what was coming, thus, I fear, their 'convenient' surrender ?"
"There's no way to stop the cascade failures Admiral !" Blakus said from one of the Ops stations, "We need to get the remaining crewoff and push the Renounce away from the Star Base. I could beam over and try to sto ..."
"No Commander. You just informed us there was no way to prevent the inevitable. How long before the matter / anti-matter chamber fails ?"
"Twelve, thirteen minutes. No more."
"Send four tugs out. They are to use full power to push the Renounce away from the Base. Once they have built up sufficient momentum, they will withdraw and return to the base. Raise shields ten seconds before the Renounce core ruptures. I want all the power we can get in the sections vulnerable." Tetsutaro ordered before turning to Valenti and Jamison ...
"Did it not occur to either of you to wonder why those two decided to suddenly give themselves up ?"
"Admiral .. Docking tugs are in position and pushing the Renounce away." someone informed them.
"Given the situation Admiral." Calli said, before Will could reply, "No, it didn't occur to ponder their motive. Nor, unfortunately, did it occur to search the room for concealed devices that may, or may not, have been secreted into any of the systems ... Given their predicament, and the likelihood they would not have survived a fire-fight, it seemed, on reflection the logical thing for them to do. Had we had any suspicions they would attempt to sabotage the Renounce, then we would have acted accordingly to the situation."
"Hmmm ....." Sato said, after a long moment, before turning to the view-screen ...
The tugs were at one hundred and ten percent, pushing the massive Intrepid Class Star Ship away from the Base. They were already passing sixty thousand kilometres and increasing the distance quickly, but everyone in the Operations Center knew that the ship would need to be much, much, further from the Star Base if it was to survive, and looking at the chronometer's countdown, ticking down the minutes and seconds, they were not going to reach safe minimum distance ! ..........

"You must be used to this by now, on the other hand, Commander," the Russian said over his shoulder to the standard-uniformed android, who perhaps by illusion seemed somewhat forlorn. "What can we expect to find over there?"
"Everything will be otherwise intact, but nothing will be operational. I have deleted and undermined everything except for The Morgan's core operating system. It has been reduced to a fruit." Marionette said.
"You mean a vegetable ?" Conaughty said off-hand, obviously amused by Marionette's mis-turn of phrase. "Yes ?"
=^= "Milyanov to Marionette. Sir, found anything of worth? You certainly did a good job on this place...." =^=
=^= "I would be inclined to take the entire vessel back with us, and have it thoroughly deconstructed for any and all useful technologies. I intend to bring back the computer core." =^= she said, making her way to the computer core room.
Prying open the obsolete door, Marionette entered the circular room to find it dominated by what appeared to be adozen upright-standing black boxes of a fairly large size at a dimensions ratio of 4:1: point.5, around the perimeter of the round room. Each one seemed to have a beam of light, spanning the height of it, but the width of a finger, set center-left, and a red ringed orb, in the top-center of each monolith. In the center of the room, there was a pillar, and in front of it, was a pedestal of some sort....
"Intriguing...." she said to herself, and then tapped her comm-badge. =^= "Marionette to Milyanov, i am in the computer core chamber, and i have discovered twelve computer monoliths of a very interesting configuration. I anticipate that Starfleet technical personnel will be most fascinated by them." =^=

For the first time, Carl felt somewhat helpless as his Officers roamed the kidnappers vessel .. There was a distinct possibility that the 'ship' had triggered some sort of self-defence mechanism once it knew it was beaten, and the last thing he wanted was fatalities. "Comms, do we have a status report on the Renounce ?" "She's being pushed away from the Star Base by tugs Admiral, but their combined thrust is only equivalent to two thirds impulse. They are currently eight hundred thirty seven kilometres from the Base. The core is still climbing toward overload ... Sir, if it goes at that dista ....." "I know Ensign." Torek replied, not wanting the young woman to point out the startlingly obvious to the Bridge, How are we for power, can we risk the tractoring that ship back ?" "Minimal power levels for any non-essential systems Admiral, but I'm sure we could give it a try without too much risk." Commander Peers replied from Tactical. "Open a Comm to the Away team." he said, waiting while the order was carried out: =^= Torek to Marionette .. Status Commander =^= =^= I have just informed Lieutenant Milyanov I am in the computer core chamber and have discovered twelve computer monoliths of a very interesting configuration .. I anticipate that Star Fleet technical personnel will be most fascinated by them =^= =^= Very well .. Given you're previous report regarding the propulsion systems .. Is there any chance of damage to those systems if we use the tractor beam to return the ship to Star Base Forty Seven for further analysis ? =^= =^= At this point Admiral I could not be sure =^= =^= Admiral .. Lieutenant Milyanov Sir .. We could remain aboard the ship during the tow .. That way if there seems to be anything awry then we should be able to request the tow discontinue while we check what may be wrong .. There doesn't seem to be any structural damage from what I can see so the tractor shouldn't do too much damage .. I would recommend minimum speed while towing Admiral .. Impulse only for the time being .. Also I can't honestly say I'm convinced that the ship or previous owner's didn't leave a surprise or two for anyone thinking they had won the proverbial 'jackpot' finding the ship empty =^= "Update from the Star Base ... The tugs have released the Renounce and are heading back. The 'Base has raised shields but they calculate the ship will not have reached safe minimum distance before the core breaches." "Damn !" Carl said, frustration rising, "Can we reach the Renounce to assist ?" "Reach it, yes, but in our present state of repair we would be more hindrance than help, and there's that ship out there ....." "Commander Peers. Contact Admiral Tetsutaro. Tell him to get everything with a shield generator into space, regardless of drive system. Tow them out if necessary. But put everything out adjacent to all critical area's ..... At least that way if it does go, something will be left to salvage of the ship doesn't drift outside the 'MSD' ..... !" T'Brel did as ordered then turned to Torek. "Command says two of the tugs have come about and have rejoined the Renounce. They are running their cores at one hundred twenty five percent. The distance 'is' increasing, but at that power level they have minutes left. It's going to be marginal unless they try to get someone aboard." "Well, it's their problem." Carl said, looking at the kidnappers vessel, now stable, on-screen, "T'Brel, activate the tractor, thirty percent hold, then bring it up, slowly ..... Once we can confirm a hold we'll attempt to move. Going to take us a while to get back at Impulse, but we have no other options." he said. Aboard the kidnappers vessel, Milyanov and Marionette felt the minute tremor as the tractor beam from the Raven caressed the ship. Over the next five minutes, T'Brel increased the hold until they were at one hundred percent. Marionette reported that all seemed well in the core, and Milyanov reported likewise from his position. =^= Commander Marionette .. Lieutenant Milyanov .. We are going to one quarter impulse .. Report any issues immediately and we will release the tractor =^= =^= Confirmed =^= the two Officer's said in unison. Slowly, very slowly, the Raven increased power and began her slow return to the Star Base. He just hoped there would be no complications on the trip home .......... < tag : Marionette / Milyanov / All >*** Please Note *** ..... Effective Immediately :: Internal Transfers >>> Alex Watson >>> Appointed Chief Operations Officer. T'Brel Peers >>> Appointed Chief Tactical / Security Officer.
I'm getting these moves out of the way before we begin our next mission, so please bare with me.

=^= "Marionette to Milyanov, i am in the computer core chamber, and i have discovered twelve computer monoliths of a very interesting configuration. I anticipate that Starfleet technical personnel will be most fascinated by them." =^=
"That's great, sir, however I'd advise caution. That thing nearly had you trapped once, it could do it again. Do you know for sure it's systems have been rendered inert?"
Milyanov thought back to Marionette's declared intent to recover the computer core intact, for the study of Federation scientists. He wasn't entirely trusting that the ship had been fully disabled; even as the Raven grabbed it with her tractor beam - jolting through Milyanov's body as the impact of the beam vibrated through the ship - and began the steady tow back to Starbase, he felt some sense of impending trouble, which was worsened by the CNO's determination to recover the computer core.
He made his way back to Marionette's position, finding the room of obelisks surrounding the central obsidian pedestal before a nimbus of iridescent light that seemed to rotate upon nothingness. "Well..." Conaughty began, who'd accompanied him.
"Very interesting configuration indeed, Commander," the Russian said to Marionette who stood at the central pedestal. He walked up to one of the red-light streaked monoliths, Milyanov humming an old Earth melody whose time of origin he couldn't recall. "These seem almost like coffins." At his own words which purported more than he'd intended, he stepped back from the monolith, preferring to rely on his tricorder's evaluation of the device.
"Assuming they're all identical, they're mass memory storage devices," he said reading his tricorder and frowning. "I can't seem to identify the exact mechanism used for data storage. I'm surprised the memory cores weren't melted during your invasion of the core's AI, Commander... Is it possible it could have a back-up, have reconfigured itself and its very physical surroundings?"
The ship continued its tethered drift through space back towards the sharp jewel of Starbase 47.
Closer to the base, the Renounce was feathered through the void by attendant tugs, desperate to get their quarry as far from the station as possible. Key ships, Blakus saw from the strategic postioning of the craft Tetsutaro had deployed, were covering vulnerable sections of the station should the Intrepid class's warp core detonate.
"The tugs should break off now," Bligh murmured to Blakus. Wedlerson from an adjacent console nodded in silent agreement. The tugs had been running 125% power and had begun to push that up to 140% - nearly breaking the absolute limits of their drives - when it became apparent to them all that they weren't going to get the Renounce to a safe distance. What a disaster. The loss of a perfectly functional - from before two hours ago - Federation starship, all down to the actions of mercenaries who'd somehow broken the confines of the ship's brig.
"The Renounce is breaking up, sir... " Blakus reported to Tetsutaro, who stood watching the viewscreen stolidly from the steps leading down to the main part of Ops.
"Raise shields!" he ordered.
"Warp core detonation in three, two, one."
"Dim viewscreen lighting!"
Why the viewscreen had been focussed on the receding form of the Renounce Blakus couldn't fathom. They all shielded their eyes as the viewscreen's brightness scaled down, placing a polarising effect over the image to reduce the glare. Once the fireball had dissipated - in short order - the glowing remnants of the vessel became visible, falling away from each other but travelling in the same general direction.
"All station operations recovery craft are in position, protecting Ops, shield generators, defence systems... Prepare for shockwave," Blakus called.
The wave of destruction took interminable moments - as if the universe had frozen in time - to wash over the Starbase. Shield grids of those ships deployed to deflect fragments and energy away from key systems flickered with impacts, set off their current attitudes by the blast. Blakus gripped his console, hoping the impact on the base would be scattered like a violent tide upon the coastline.

Had Matt been fresh out of the Academy he would be panicking at the moment. He would have turned his vessel, the USS Houston, around and tried to do something on the starbase. Yet his experience told him that his people were doing everything possible to make sure the starbase and Carl's crew would be safe.
"Reynolds to Starbase 47, you ordered to go to yellow alert. I want all non essentials in their designated emergency shelters," Matt said as he watched the tugs release the Renounce.
"Admiral we are handling the situation, plus Matt was sure that the universe wouldn't let so many Starfleet brass die in one incident," Sato said which surprisingly brought a smile to Matt's face.
"Yes sir, but you know that I worry," Matt said before he cut the transmission and began to mull the math in his head. While the Houston was not tested fully yet, she was a capable vessel with strong technology. The Renounce was much bigger than the Houston, but he could help move the ship further and further away from the starbase. Matt then saw the plan that had been hatched up. He knew that it wouldn't fully protect the starbase. People would get hurt and internally Matt hoped that it wasn't Kristen or Caleb.
"Imminent core breach"
Matt knew what was about to happen, so he quickly engaged his engines and didn't look back. His family, friends, and men, were going to see how much destruction a core breach could do upon a starbase.
"Shockwave approaching"
The shockwave seemed to take forever to overtake the Houston, but once it did Matt was throttled every way imaginable. If it hadn't been for the emergency restraints Matt knew that he would be seriously hurt. As the consoles around him began to overload, everything suddenly stopped around him.
"I thought you were smarter than this Matthew, how can you put Caleb's life in danger like this?" Q said.
"Q, you have it in your power to make sure that no one dies, do this for me," Matt pleaded annoyed but relieved that his nuisance had showed up just in time.
"You know I cannot let anything happen to you or Caleb, just make sure this doesn't happen again," Q said as he snapped his fingers and disappeared.
The Houston was motionless and the systems rebooted themselves. The destruction was evident, but his vessel was just scratched.
"Reynolds to Starbase 47 and Admiral Torek, report!"

After two hours of travelling the Raven had increased speed to point nine five impulse ... They were making good headway in the circumstances. "Sir ...." T'Brel said, turning to the Command area, a puzzled look on his face, "I'm picking up some unusu ....." The view-screen suddenly flared with white light and reacted instantly to prevent damage to the eyes of anyone who happened to be facing the massive screen. Off to the right, a bright point of light was still visible, slowly diminishing until it could no longer be seen, But everyone knew what it was, and what had happened. T'Brel suddenly turned to his console and shouted: "BRACE FOR IMPACT ... SHOCK-WAVE !"Everyone reacted instantly, grabbing hold of what they could. "Why didn't we detect it ?" Carl asked. "It was travelling too fast Admiral, Sir, we need to turn into the wave and release the tractor, if that ship gets tossed around it could easily impact the Raven herself !" "Damn ... " Carl said, not wanting to loose the prize they had fought so hard to get hold of. Peers informed them they had less than fifteen seconds, "Lock onto the away team personnel. Emergency transport ... Deactivate the tractor beam." he ordered as seconds later the shock-wave smashed into the ship. People were thrown around like rag dolls who hadn't made sure of their hold, and Carl could see the mercenary vessel being tossed like a leaf in a whirlwind. They lost sight of the ship for a second, then, when it came into view once more both nacelles were missing and the saucer section was buckling under the tremendous pressures exerted by the remnants of the matter anti-matter shock-wave. Suddenly, the ship exploded, so violently it threw the Raven on her back as the last of the 'wave passed them by. Inertial dampers and stabilizers fought to right the ship and finally succeeded. Thankfully, one of the upgrades ensured that the ships shields were raised in any situation that could threaten the ship herself. this happened much quicker than a Commanding Officer could sometimes order, hopefully saving damage or even loss of life ... The Raven gently rolled over, all power to the drive systems ceased, and she floated in the darkness, a gleaming silver white jewel, thankfully unscathed by her ordeal. Systems began to re-boot, the Bridge lighting came to life and Medic's entered, treating the injured of shocked ... "Is there anything left of the mercenary ship ?" Carl asked, rubbing his aching shoulder as a Medic treated the torn ligaments. "Admiral. That ship suffered a matter anti-matter intermix failure. Computers say that ninety seven point eight four of the blast was suppressed by the shock-wave pushing it away from us. The ship was less than a thousand meters from us when it went up." Peers informed him, "If it hadn't been for the Renounce, well ....." he left the sentence unfinished ..... oooo000oooo
~ Two hours later, the Raven approached Star Base Forty Seven ~ The space around the 'base looked like a war-zone ... Sections of shuttle-craft, crushed and mangled worker-bee's drifted around in haphazard trajectories as the remaining Star Ships began tractoring the debris into something approaching a stable positions ready for removal and return to the dome section work-yards. Carl requested a Comm link to the Command Center: =^= Admiral Torek to Command =^= =^= It is .. Good to see you made it back Admiral =^= Tetsutaro said. =^= How did the 'Base fare in the explosion .. We saw the explosion and were caught in the shock-wave .. Is there anything we can do to help out here Admiral ? =^= =^= Proceed to docking Admiral .. No arguments .. The Dock-master is awaiting your approach .. We have everything under control and Section Admiral Drew has been appraised of the situation .. I think a toast is in order .. With luck not too many of that Irish rogue's glasses were broken so I expect to find you there when we need to .. Unfortunate that the mercenary ship was lost .. There was technology on that ship that could have proved useful but alas no point in brooding .. Dock your ship Admiral and .. Welcome back =^= The Comm closed and Carl instructed the Duty Helm Officer to proceed with docking ...... Fifteen minutes later, he was walking off the ship as a veritable 'swarm' of technician's and auxiliary personnel were heading in the opposite direction. Given he was 'technically' under orders not to go to the Command Center, he contacted Chloe, who had taken the Children to the carnival's on Ruddlex IV, several hours away, then, he entered the nearest turbo-lift and requested 'Deck one five five one' .... "WELL WELL mi'guys n gals !" Sean said, as he watched his friend enter the bar looking less than pristine, "Look what the cat dragged in." "Shout the hell up you Irish gigolo, get on that bloody grapevine of yours and get my crew here as soon as possible, and GET me a drink ... A BIG ONE !" ........... ...... ~ ooc ~ ......
OK everyone. Shore Leave over. Please feel free to post your last thoughts / actions before turning up at O'Tooles
I will begin the new mission shortly, but I'll leave this thread open so you can all finish off
My 'Heartfelt' thank you, and congratulations to everyone on yet another exciting and unusual Shore Leave
I have to say I am so proud to be a part of what I consider an exceptional group of people who serve on the USS Raven-B
Thank You once again
