::The diminuative Commander is scrolling through the scant information available. She had gone to sit down down, out of habit, into the seemingly empty chair, and has to grab ahold of the console in front of her to keep from dropping into what could possibly be the lap of....of what? Someone that might or might not be sitting in that chair. She is able to catch herself before sitting fully down, speaking back to the Doctors comm::
<Chavet> =/\=Oh aye. Logs be givin me plenty Dr. I dinnae recognize th name so i wan' ye t send one o yer crew t th Mini Sal an get everythin th database 'as got on a planet called "M'narin". Accordin t' th logs, archaeologists picked th artifact up from ruins on tha planet 18 days ago. Oddities, dissappearances an later reappearances started round 12 hours after th specimen was taken. Subspace n sensor disruptions an th like. Th research group was th first few t dissappear. While yer man is checkin tha minisals database, tis me orders t stay away from tha thing Doctor. Contactin th Capn...Comm me back when ye got some planetside information, Irae out fer th mo.=/\=
::Signing off area comms for the moment, Deis taps the communicator on her chest and says:: Irae t El Salvador, Capn, got a lil information fer ye. ::Then she waits for acknowledgement that unfortunately does not come. She taps the combadge again, frowning:: Capn... ... ...Savot? El Salvador, anybody? Bloody 'ell. ::because there is no contact whatsoever. Pinging back into the area comms:: =/\=Delbridge...weve lost comms wi th El Salvador. See wha ye can do down there t get us reconnected=/\=
~The Mini-Sal database would display that the planet M'narin is currently uninhabited. There are obvious signs of previous intelligent life of the humanoid variety but seemingly none had survived the very sudden and swift onset of a possible ice age. Such a calamity had taken decades to set in completely and appears to have destroyed the population of the planet entirely. The curious fact is that not a single piece of archaeological evidence can state exactly how the people died...or give complete proof that they had died at all...its simply a logical assumption. No proof of bodies had ever been found. Not in the fossel record, not in the halted glaciers, not in the numerous ruins that dot the planets surface. The ruins themselves speak in intricate heiroglyphics of the comming ice storms, all people gathering in one place and reference is made to the artifact that is currently onboard this ship. But the glyphic history is too sketchy to form a clear idea of what this had indicated~

Chavet took her distraught security escort by the arm “Underwood, let’s get out of the cargo hold. Until we know more about this thing, we should not be anywhere near it.”
“But Doctor, what about Jessica?” He asked, “Yelany, I mean. She could be hurt?”
“She might be, but we can’t held her if we get ourselves into whatever trouble she did. I think our best bet is to figure out exactly what this thing is.” =A= Commander, any luck reaching the El’Salvador? We could use some back up.=A=
=A= Naw yet Doctor, but surly they are also tryinta contact us as well =A=
=A= Ok, I am taking Crewman Unbridge and heading to the quarters of the archeologist. He may have some notes there that will shed light on things.=A=
The Archeologists quarters where a mess, and Nayomi had the distinct impression they were like that even before everyone vanished. From what she could tell Dr Kadel was a bit of an eccentric. He even wrote his notes in an old book using a graphite writing utensil. It seemed his assistants number one job was to transcribe the notes into the computer, but he had not completed the most recent entries. She scoured the notes while Umbridge searched the room.
The archeological ruins where of the people the researches had named the Krish. It would appear they had a strong faith based culture with the temple to their deities occupying the centre of the city. They had many priests and several high priests who kept the laws enforced. According to the hieroglyphs found the high priests could walk among the people unseen, and would report their wrong doings to the gods who would punish the sins with illness and other misfortune. The obelisk the archaeologists had dug up was one of two. The other was black with red writing and was still being uncovered. The one that was on board had clearly been damaged some time ago, a great big crack ran down the side. Although many ruins and artifacts had been found, the only bones discovered had been carefully buried prior to the cultures disappearance. There was no sign of mass death or exodus to explain what may have happened to them.
As Nayomi read she caught a glimpse of something moving out of the corner of her eye. She looked over and saw the writing tool floating in the air, and then come down onto a loose piece of paper. It began to write, slowly and shakily.
Leave NOW Happen again soon Not saf
The tool dropped to the floor before the invisible writer could finish.
=A= Commander, I believe we should take our findings and head back to the ship.=A=

"Aye Sir," Quinn replied taking up her position at the Tactical station. She scanned it briefly to memorize the controls. Quinn was primarily a ground Marine. This would be her first bridge assignment and she was getting used to it. Quinn worked quickly boosting the comm signal to the away teams shuttle. "Captain I've made contact with the shuttle. I'm attempting to contact the away team now." She hit a few buttons.
<to the away team> "Commander Irae, This is Lieutenant Summers please respond." She waited listening keenly for a response on the comms before attempting again. "El Salvador to the Away team respond..." <insert response if any>
Quinn proceeded to scan the other ship for evidence of any ion disturbances or EMPs.

"I hope I am not being out of place, but perhaps when you are settled you could meet with the students? Jhal'Dok and Hzara are in the relationship and it is affecting their work. You did not meet Linayra, but the Suliban is very quiet, one would say shy, and is having difficulty with her bedside manner."
"I will make miss Linayra my priority once I have settled into my quarters," T'Val promised the doctor as she sat up, "and I will schedule the couple in the morning, if you would be so kind to send them my way by then?"
[Cutler]
AS elegantly as she could, the pregnant woman slid off of the bed. "I will be in my quarters for the next hour or so, and then on the bridge, if my services are required." She turned and walked out, roaming the ship to find her assigned quarters and get a feel of the vessel. She found her room quick enough and found her belongings had already been transported here. She reached into her case and started putting clothes in the drawers and cupboards. The walls, she found, looked rather barren but in the time afforded right now she didn't really have time to do much. Especially not, given her physical condition.
Still, she replicated a jar of light blue paint and started to attack one wall with a roller. She only could get so high because she wasn't going to climb up a step and risk falling off. Stuart would never forgive her if anything happened to her or their unborn son. Once she was done, she finished setting up her quarters as she liked it, putting framed pictures everywhere, rearranging them a few times and rearrange her furniture.
Quickly taking a shower and changing into a fresh uniform, T'Val felt ready for work. Still in the process of tying up her long red hair into a loose ponytail, she stepped up on to the bridge. "Counselor Mercy, reporting for duty," she announced.

[Crosnik: Engine Room]
After his brief ghostly encounter, Delbridge had been left relatively alone. In a particularly convenient stroke of genius in this case, this model freighter had been designed such that the Cargo Bay and Engineering were approximately the 2 furthest locations from each other. There was no definitive proof yet how, if at all, proximity or lack thereof affected this obelisk's phasing phenomenon. But so far Delbridge and his security backup hadn't disappeared and that was quite good enough for him. He'd noted an antimatter containment field breech slowly building towards a collapse whose resulting explosion would destroy the Crosnik.
The engineer had dealt with that readily enough, it had probably happened due to negligence once the crew started vanishing since they would no longer be 'present' to man the controls. Everything squared away and having confirmed a lack of any other damage that would prove detrimental to the ship until they solved this, Delbridge gathered his tools and nodded to the guard to lead the way back to where the Mini-Sal was docked. As he lifted his foot to cross the threshold out of the Engine Room, Delbridge heard a beep that made his brow furrow. He turned back to look at the source, then slumped at the shoulders, swearing under his breath...
************************************************************************************** [Mini-Sal: Few Minutes later, when everyone else has gathered]
Delbridge stepped through the docking hatch into the familiar surroundings of the Starfleet shuttle. He waited until Commander Irae had finished updating the El Salvador on their situation via the boosted comm-signal, then frowned in her direction, "Boss lady; believe me when I say no one is more frowny-faced to say this than I am, but I have to stay here." He explained that he'd found and resolved a breakdown in the freighter's antimatter containment, including his assumption that it was a simple case of negligence due to the crew going 'poof'.
"But seeing what I saw, especially in light of the warning the Doc witnessed, I'm convinced that whoever belongs to the ghostly vitals in Engineering is intentionally trying to cause a self-destruct. Assuming they're even still in their right mind in whatever state they're in, my guess is they intend to blow the ship to stop anyone else from being affected by this alien gizmo. There seems to be a general pattern to when these dimen-shifts go down, but it's not precise. In light of that my professional opinion is that someone needs to remain stationed in the Crosnik's Engine Room to watch for and continually counter these attempts to break down the containment. As senior engineering gentleman present, that means me", Delbridge spoke in a serious tone despite his informal diction.
************************************************************************************* [El Salvador: Bridge, Concurrent with the above segments]
Savot noted Summers diving in to her work at a good pace and without trepidation for someone unused to bridge duty. As she worked to re-establish communication with the Away Team, T'Val Mercy arrived on the bridge. "Counselor Mercy, reporting for duty," she announced.
Savot rose from his chair, gesturing to the chair left of the captain's facing the viewscreen, "Counselor. Feel free to use this chair when you're on the Bridge. Arm readouts are currently displaying what intermittent vital sign readings we're receiving from the Away Team. I'd hoped to utilize your medical background and see if you can recognize any medical reason the team members wouldn't be willing or able to respond to communications."
Even as the vulcan captain spoke; however, Commander Irae's voice piped in from the Mini-Sal: <Insert Irae mission update report>
Savot listened intently, noting in particular the frantic warning Doctor Chavet had been witness to, "Understood Commander. I want you to detach and retreat to the same distance separating the El Salvador from the freighter until the 'event' passes. Hopefully with the multi-spectral readings we're recording we'll know when "it" has happened, whatever it is. Unfortunately I am forced to agree with Commander Delbridge's reasoning; Doctor Chavet, please inject him with a subdermal transmitter. If he should undergo whatever transition has befallen the others, perhaps we'll be able to receive some readings from the proverbial other side. ...Exercise caution, Mr. Delbridge."
<Insert of any responses/comments from members of the Away Team>
Savot couldn't see the appreciative grin on his friend's face, but it read through in his voice, =^=Will do, Cap'n. Thanks.=^=
The vulcan turned back to Mercy as the Away Team signed off, "Counselor, in light of restored communication with the Away Team, I'd ask you to maintain a vigilance over their medical readings over the next several minutes until whatever transitionary event Doctor Chavet was warned of occurs. Note any deviations in their readings during or surrounding the event. Likewise, if you believe you experience any telepathic sense from those already fallen victim to the obelisk's effect, please inform me at once."

=/\=Ye know Doc...yeve a point. Get ever one out, meetcha a' th Mini-Sal in a ricky tick. Delbridge, her yer arse up there as well.=/\=
::Irae knows that the happenings onboard this ship cant be as simple as "ghosts"...which really isnt simple at all. But as she approaches the doorway that will lead her to the corridors and hears a creak behind her...she cant help but think along those paranormal lines anyway. When she looks back over her shoulder, every single console chair is turrrrrning in her direction. There is many ways that one could take this. Perhaps a salute of sorts...perhaps a "dont leave us"...but then again perhaps its a "we must feast upon your soul"...you just never know with ghosts. Damn her superstitious family. Nevertheless she feels herself being very pointedly looked at and says to the empty room:: Workin on it gents...sit ye tight yeah? ::And then quickly gets the hell out of there::
::Upon reaching the Mini-Sal, Deis listens to Delbridges report, sitting down at the pilots seat and giving a little twitch of a groan:: Lovely...as if thins werenae "interestin" enough. Righ...gotta clear it Mr. Delbridge. May as well try these bleedin comms again...
::And to her suprise it chirps right on up, and when she hears the chirp its gotta be the sweetest sound shes ever heard:: =/\=Righ, tis like this Capn. Artifact onboard seems fer all intents an purposes t be makin people dissappear. Everbody onboard is "gone"...but nae fergotten iffen ye take me meanin. Unexplained activity such as movin items, consoles workin on their own WITH passcodes. Phantom writin an...well...chairs...ahem, anyway. Comms blocked on th Crosnik, prolly due t some interference from th Artifact. Wha i be sayin Capn is tha...somehow...these people be still HERE. An weve a missin among em, one o th med crew, Yelany. Delbridge experienced a boggin tryin t destruct t ship. I dinnae like th idear o leavin 'im onboard...but we dinnae 'ave a alternative. ::She lets Delbridge fill the Capn and El Sal in on exactly how that bit is happening and then takes the orders like a trooper:: Understood, Sir. Mini-Sal out.=/\=
::Turns round in her pilots chair:: Righ, ye heard th man. Doc, get Delbridge shot up wi a transmitter...th rest o us, were outa here in 5.

<Bridge> "Communications are back up and running Captain," Unused to the bridge or not Quinn didn't waste any time when there were things to be done. She listened to the report from Commander Irae. She didn't say anything out loud but was thinking the ship is haunted? Impossible. But then she herself had seen some strange things in her lifetime. The team was heading back it sounded like. She was looking forward to meeting the Commander. Quinn continued to monitor the comms in case they dropped out again before the away team returned.

::Commander Irae looks around at the Doctor and shakes her head:: Negative Doctor. Im sorry, but i cannae let ye do tha. ::Once everyone has taken a seat, Delbridge included, just to be safe about this, Deis uncouples from the Crosnik and moves us out a kilometer and hits the comms:: =/\=Irae t th El Salvador. ::She waits only long enough for the kit to be beamed aboard, then she returns the Mini-Sal to the Crosnik. Once recoupled then she nods to the Doc and Delbridge:: Righ, lets get this done.

The young medic Petra Yelany sat cross legged in the corner of the shuttle thinking back on the events of the past hour. She kept looking over at Henry Umbridge and the crushed looked on his face, wondering if she should try to make him aware of her presence, but not sure how.
----
The artifact had enchanted her from the very beginning, it looked sort of Egyptian, but was clearly the work of an advanced alien species. She could not help herself but admire it from all angles, a decision she now regretted. More then that though, she regretted putting her hand on it. As soon as she did she felt a vibration run through her fingers, all the way to the top of her head and the tips of her toes. Gasping she had pulled her hand away, but it was too late. She looked around, ashamed that any of her crewmates caught her being careless. She stepped back around to the other side and nearly walked right through the new Trill Doctor. Gasping she stumbled backwards and scrambled back toward the far side of the room. There she was startled to see an Andorian in civilian dress sitting on a nearby crate and a human with a beard and utility vest standing beside him. They where watching the away team with great interest.
"You should not have done that." The Andorian said.
"Yerk, be nice, it's not like we where able to put up a sign." The man said. He approached her and put out his hand for a shake, she took it tentatively. "Abraham Smith, Archeologist."
"Assistant." The Andorian corrected. "Just because You're instructor is incapacitated does not give you a promotion. Welcome to purgatory Miss."
The two explained to her how the device had vanished the crew. It started with the Denobulan archaeologist and Abraham, and not long after the device went haywire. Sending a blast of energy which vanished the rest of the crew, and presumably any other living creature aboard. "Including my cat." Abraham insisted. Ten hours later, it did it again, but everyone on board had already been affected, then ten hours after that ... "We think it's what happened to the aliens who built it, it got broken and started malfunctioning. Poof, they all vanished. Our tinkering with it may have sped up the process. The next event is due in 4 hours."
"Why did you send out a distress call? Why not send out a warning?" Yelany asked.
"Pick up that vase" Yerk instructed, pointing to a vase that lay on it's side near her feet. She tried, and her fingers went right through it. "Not so easy is it? With a lot of effort and time we can manage a few things, but most of the time, it goes wrong. Yerk here tried sending out a warning, but messed it up.
"You're one to talk, don't even know how to operate a ship and fooled around. Thanks to you we are in this meteoroid field." Yerk retorted. "But since a Starfleet ship showed up, maybe it's a good thing, after all you guys get out of these messes all the time! So What are you, the Captain? First Officer?"
"Ummm" Yelany gulped. "Junior medic. I don't even have clearance to go on the bridge."
"Great, should have known anyone dumb enough to touch the object would be low ranking. Anyway, does not matter. No one can see you. Get on the bridge and tell them what is going on. They need to get your ship away from here within 4 hours."
"And if I can't" she asked.
"Your crew goes Poof."
So now she sat on the shuttle, trying not to get stepped on. Not that it would hurt, but having a foot go through you was an unnerving experience.

[El Salvador: Main Bridge]
=/\=Irae t th El Salvador. We need one fully loaded medkit from sickbay, please make sure they include a subdermal comms unit injector, an we need it as quick as ye can transport it aboard th Mini-Sal. Soddin boggins nicked th Docs Kit. Please an thank ye=/\=, Savot listened to Irae's report/request, arching a vulcan eyebrow at her penultimate terminology. He did; however, get the gist of what she was saying and gave a silent nod to Lt. Tamarov to take care of the transport request.
Savot tapped the control on his arm chair to patch himself back into transmit mode to speak to the shuttle, "Equipment en route, Mini-Sal. Also sending 1 emergency transporter armband equipped with a phase discriminator for you to equip yourself with Mr. Delbridge. The enhanced signal within the band should assist us in beaming you off the Crosnik should it become necessary, and ideally you can utilize the phase discriminator to safeguard yourself against the phasing phenomenon for the duration of your stay. We shall instruct our triangulated probes to transmit their telemetry to your personal tricorder in addition to the El Salvador; they've been set to monitor different data spectrums and my hope is that overlaying the results will be able to tell us more about what we're dealing with. They may also enable you to program field parameters into your discriminator that will prevent you from phasing."
*************************************** [Mini-Sal]
Barely 30 seconds after the captain ceased speaking, the aforementioned items materialized aboard the shuttle as promised. As his subdermal transmitter was injected, he equipped himself with the E-Trans armband and set his tricorder on wide receive, =^=Much obliged, Cap'n.=^= Delbridge sat there for a second actually trying to think of something else to say... and figured since he couldn't think of anything, there probably wasn't anything more needed saying anyway. When all was prepped and the Mini-Sal briefly re-coupled with the freighter, the engineer tossed Irae a 2-fingered salute before disembarking and re-sealing the hatch behind him as the shuttle was reluctantly forced to leave him behind.
Delbridge wasted no time in hefting his equipment back to Engineering, checking first to make sure the auto-destruct had not yet been reactivated before setting up the transporter Pattern Enhancers in their standard triangular formation. It occurred to the engineer that he'd have to keep an eye on these from time to time as well to ensure they weren't tampered with leaving him rather unfortunately stranded here should the El Salvador be forced to evacuate the vicinity. He also manually opened all the doorways throughout the freighter. He figured closed doors wouldn't stop phased ghost-people anyway, so they'd only hinder him if he had reason to move through the ship quickly. Though he did take the precaution of utilizing what little power the Crosnik had for it to erect a containment field around Engineering that might perchance hinder the phasing effects of the obelisk. A completely unproven theory, but it felt good to be doing something.
********************************************** [El Salvador: Main Bridge]
An expression of cold accusation came upon Cadet Vasrea's face at Ops after Savot's exchange with the shuttle, "So, you are willing to sacrifice your crewman Captain?"
Savot blinked and raised an eyebrow turning to face her with his hands clasped behind him at the small of his back, "Your inquiry would be considered inappropriate conduct, but I will answer it Cadet. Am I willing to sacrifice one or more crewmembers if necessary to fulfill our obligations as Starfleet officers to assist in saving innocent lives? Without hesitation. Do I wish to make such sacrifices? Not in the least. Ideally, no life will be lost in our endeavor to discover and undo what has happened to the crew and passengers of the Crosnik, and I will take every step available to me to reduce the likelihood of loss of life. But as both a vulcan and an officer of Starfleet I embrace the belief that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. If the only way to save multiple innocent lives is to risk 1; I will regretfully do so and I'm certain I speak for my friend Commander Delbridge when I say he would do so willingly whether ordered or not."
Vasrea tilted her head a bit as she reviewed the incoming telemetry, "I apologize for my tone, Captain." Savot dipped his own head in reply, "There can be no offense, where none is taken." He then turned to Lt. Summers when he saw the Mini-Sal was returning home, "Lieutenant, please rendezvous with Commander Irae's team in the shuttlebay so she can brief you on the events and data we've collated thus far. Remain with her for the duration of this mission. If and when it becomes necessary to return to the freighter I'd like your experience leading the security detail that accompanies our First Officer."

::Deis gives Delbridge a little two fingered salute back and nods to him in all seriousness before letting him go. She dosent want to leave him there...but there really is no alternative. She does send a little prayer off somewhere into the cosmos. That is Savots best friend stuck behind on the Crosnik. We better figure this mess out and quickly. Once hes off the shuttle and we reseal up, Deis gets us moving, popping dock one more time, speaking to the Doctor and the crew thats here with her. While speaking she shows nothing in the way of emotion, business as usual:: I dinnae like leavin him there nae more than ye all do. But this is how it is. We keep in contact an let th man work.
Doc when we get back, take yer team an get up wi Science. I want options, possibilities, and a' this bloody point, vague guesses an fantasies may work just as well. Sec team, yer wi me. ::taps in our coords this time rather than manually piloting the Mini-Sal. Shes got too much on her mind for a minute. She is a commander and was once a doctor...but that dosent make her any better prepared to unwrinkle what the hell is going on here. She isnt a theoretical astro physicist...but she probably knows a guy. Either way the El Salvador is reached without incident and as soon as weve touched down, the Commander is up and heading out of the shuttle::
::Immediately upon exiting the Mini-Sal, Deis would be aware of the young woman sent to meet us. She steps straight into the handshake and is motioning the woman to come with. The First Officer is a rather small and athletically built woman with a very brisk businesslike manner. Pale of skin, spikey hair space black. There is a faint pattern of scarring that streaks the left half of her face, but the Doctors treatments thus far have blurred and softened it so that it isnt so stark looking. She has this almost deadpan tone of voice, save for the very scotchirish lilt. (desc for Quinn since shes only just meetin her):: Lt. Summers, i be Commander Irae. Sorry t cut th meet n greet short n sweet but weve a situation. Ill fill ye in when ive given me report to th Capn. Nae a need t be yammerin this twice.
::Allowing Quinn to speak as she will, Irae is mostly silent save for questions answered and such as she strikes out through the corridors and eventually to the turbolift that will get her to the bridge. Upon stepping out on the Bridge itsself, she feels herself relax just a little bit. Though it isnt lost on her that she has been assigned a security detail, she does not bring it up now. She waits until the Captain has finished speaking and then strides up to his chairside:: In short...that ships buggered, Sir. ::Watching that eyebrow begin its upward trek on the vulcan captains face::

Nayomi left the shuttle pod with the distinct impression that she was being followed. Was it possible that one of the vanished crewmembers of the Crosnik had boarded the shuttle? Or maybe the young medic? Then again, it could just be her imagination. She started for sickbay, then changed her mind. She had lost a member of her team, and yes, Yelany was not necessarily gone for ever, but never the less she did not come back with them. She needed to report, in person, to the Captain. She took the turbolift to the bridge.
----------
Yelany’s initial impulse was to follow Henry, his face still held a pained look, almost as though he might be ill. They had been dating for a couple of weeks now, and although she wasn’t sure if there was anything in the way of a long term future for them, he was an amazing guy, and she hated seeing him this way. But then she realized that following a petty officer was not going to get her where she needed to go, so she followed the doctor. She knew sickbay well, perhaps she could manipulate some of the machines to get her message across. She slipped through the door behind Dr Chavet and was surprised to have the doctor call out for the Bridge rather then sickbay. Oh well, although she had never been there, Yelany figured that was where all the really clever folks where so maybe that would help.
------
Nayomi stepped out of the turbo lift, took a deep breath and headed towards the captain’s chair. “Sir.” She started, and paused for him to acknowledge her. “I wish to report on the disappearance of Crewman Petra Yelany. I am not sure what Commander Irae told you, but She was under my supervision at the time.” She then proceeded to explain the events surrounding her medic’s disappearance.
<Tag Savot>
-----
Yelany had the doors to the bridge close on her, not an experience she wished to repeat. Fortunately no one could see her embarrass herself. She listed to the doctor report on her disappearance to the Captain while she explored the bridge, trying to find inspiration. The way Dr Chavet was speaking, you would think she was dead. She shook the creepy feeling of that off and wandered over to a Vulcan women in a sciences uniform. She was not familiar, but she had heard they where getting a new ship’s counsellor and this women matched the rumoured description. Excellent, chances are she might be more receptive to her attempts to communicate then the others. Yelany stood in front of the seated women and tried to think of what to do. Then she remembered the disturbing feeling when she walked though Abraham in the mess hall and sat right down on, or rather through, the counsellor’s lap.
<Tag T’Val>
(O.O.C T’Val, please feel free to take over the NPC of Petra Yelany if you would to explore your interaction with her. Apart from anything I have written I have no great aspirations for her)

<main Bridge> She turned as the Captain addressed her. She nodded curtly. "Aye Aye Sir," She handed her console off to the next person available and strode to the lifts.
<Shuttle Bay> Quinn would be striding out of the lift as the mini-sal landed. She stood hands behind her back as she awaited the Commander. Those piercing blue eyes studied the woman and she snapped a salute before shaking the outsretched hand. "Pleasure to be serving with you Ma'am," She said in reply. Quinn wasn't much of a talker to people she had only just met especially senior officers. Quinn would move with a hunters grace, athletic in build and rather abrupt in her manner. There were hints of scarring peeking above her uniform as well. Both battle-hardened it seemed. and Quinn would nod in silent approval.

[El Salvador: Main Bridge]
Savot raised an eyebrow at his First Officer's succinct summary of the goings-on aboard the Crosnik, inclining his head then dipping it slowly in a slow-motion nod, "I see. Could I perhaps hear the long version, Commander?" He listened as Deis debriefed him on the phantom readings, moving objects, stuttery messages, their own missing crewmember Yelany, and the logs mentioning the obelisk's origins on the desolate planet M'narin. "Interesting. An 18-day span since the artifact was removed from M'narin and the affected can still partially interact with their environment for brief periods. This bodes well for our possibilities of salvaging them once we determine a safe method. Your review of the Crosnik's logs indicate they traveled no faster than Warp 1.5 since taking the obelisk; possibly due to concerns that high intensity warp fields could detrimentally affect the artifact. Assign a full Science team to evaluate that possibility; the archaeologist's notes recovered by Dr. Chavet clearly indicate the artifact is damaged. This combined with the fact that it could likely possess a shared interactive base with the other artifact referred to in the excavation notes and it seems increasingly probable that its effects have been compromised from their original intended use. At maximum warp we could tow the freighter back to M'narin in approximately 2.7 hours but before we do so I want to make sure we aren't going to trigger a reaction from the obelisk by doing so."
As though summoned by her reference, Nayomi stepped out of the turbo lift, took a deep breath and headed towards the captain’s chair.
Savot turned to Chavet and nodded, "I understand, Doctor. Though it will doubtless provide little comfort, it is simple truth that you possessed no knowledge that could have even predicted her disappearance let alone prevented it. Given the events and actions witnessed aboard the freighter I am proceeding under the assumption that Crewman Yelany is alive and recoverable. We've been collecting data via multi-spectral scan overlays for 43 minutes; I've sent copies of the telemetry to the Medical Labs for review. My working hypothesis is that the life forms are still present but somehow out of phase either temporally or via transition into something like a subspace layer, and based on what little data we've gathered I believe our best chance to retrieve those missing is to return the obelisk to M'narin and investigate the other artifact referred to in the archaeologist's notes as well as the ruins themselves. But before we risk moving the Crosnik we need to know if doing so will in any way disrupt the obelisk or those within its thrall. Please review all the findings along with our new telemetry and coordinate with Commander Irae to keep me apprised. If we can in fact tow the freighter safely, our probability of success increases the sooner we're able to do so. Also, please have each returning member of the Away Team tagged with vital monitors. While I hope it unlikely, if anyone else who had been aboard the Crosnik fades I want the computer to alert us immediately."
Cadet Vasrea's brow furrowed as she experienced an odd sensation for a moment, but quickly shook it off assuming it was merely projected emotions coming from the concerned officers on the bridge around her.

T'Val had only just come back to duty after taking a brief break. With her current physical state, she tired easily and just needed to step away to somewhere a little more quiet on occasion. She felt oddly out of place as counselor, having been a medical doctor for a fair while now. She also felt alone, and wished either Stuart or Tedak were here with her to support her.
She sat down in her seat next to the commanding officer and crossed her hands in her lap as she studied those around her on the bridge. The situation seemed tense to her, even though she didn't quite know what was going on. She listened to the reports going back and forth and understood some crewmembers had gone missing, somehow.
An odd chill passed through her body suddenly, and she felt very cold. T'Val gasped audibly as she seemed to sense someone, but saw no-one. "Who is there?" she whispered, shivering visibly. "Captain...you should scan for anomalies. I...felt something."

Dr Chavet listened to the Vulcan Captain's logical attempts to comfort her. "Aye Captain, I will see what I can find in those readings." So much for a simple rescue mission, she was getting the impression that on this ship simple missions where not going to be common place. Back in sickbay she gathered her team and shared her findings on the Crosnik and the events surrounding Yelany's disappearance. The medic had worked among the staff of sickbay longer then Nayomi had. The Medical team took it was well as to be expected, eager to get to work and find a way to get her back. Nayomi headed into her office and opened the files that the bridge had sent down. She did not even have time to scan the document when a chime sounded. She looked up through the glass doors to see Linayra, the Suliban exchange student, standing there. "Come in" She did. "Have aseat Linayra, how can I help you?" The suliban girl looked a little hesitant. Then took a seat. "Mame, I think... I don't know if I am just being a little silly, but my mother used to tell me stories before I went to bed at night She said they where past down from generation to generation. One of them was about a planet that I think might actually have been M'narin. There the people had a powerful device that the priests would use to make themselves invisible to walk amongst the population and count their sins. This kept the planet very peaceful and crime very low because everyone was worried that the priests would tell the gods and take away their chances at an after life. Then one day a king came into power who did not believe in the gods, he was not happy about this invasion of privacy and destroyed the device. The gods where angry at him for this and decided to make the whole population pay for his sin. They made them all vanish, and they died of starvation because they unable to plant and harvest crops." "Sounds like a sweet little bed time story." Nayomi leaned back in her chair. "It sounds like the Suliban may have been on to something. This matches what I read in the archaeologist journals and would explain why the population vanished without a trace. Not that I believe in the god part of it, but maybe when this king broke the device it resulted in a spike of power. Did your mother tell you about how the priests made them selves visible again? They must have had a way otherwise how did they survive?" "I don't think so." "Well why don't you put in some research and see what you can find out. Contact your mother, grandmother, pull up what you can from your people's archives. Then let me know what you find." -------------------------------------------- Back on the bridge Yelany was sitting in T'val's lap, suddenly regretting her decision. Once past the point of no return she realized that the Vulcan counsellor was pregnant. What if she hurt the baby? She got up with a start. T'Val gasped audibly as she seemed to sense someone, but saw no-one. "Who is there?" she whispered, shivering visibly. "Captain...you should scan for anomalies. I...felt something." It worked! Now all she had to do was find a way to get her message across. She scanned the bridge. Two technicians where working a console near the front, it's top pulled off revealing the circuitry inside. She headed over and looked at the board. If she could disrupt the flow of power maybe she could signal the bridge crew, but how? She never learned morse code, after all that would be too easy. Cautiously she put a finger out and touched one of the exposed wires. she felt the power pulse through her, less of a shock then she was expecting, but not an enjoyable experience. "Oh my!" One of the technicians gasped and scrambled backwards his eyes wide. "Yelany!" the other once exclaimed, she recognized him as Henry's bunkmate. So, they had seen her. Was she still visible? Had anyone else seen her? The power surge must have done something. <Tag Bridge crew>

"Who is there?" T'Val whispered after an audible gasp, shivering visibly. "Captain...you should scan for anomalies. I...felt something."
Savot furrowed his brow and complied with the advice, "Cadet Vasrea, internal sensor scan of the bridge, full spectrum." Even as the vulcan girl moved to comply; however, there were exclamations near an open console that drew nearly everyone's attention toward it. Savot rose from the center seat, arching a brow at the image of Crewman Yelany standing there partially translucent even as he moved to the wall to pull a tricorder from a slot and begin scanning as he approached her closely, "Intriguing. Ms. Yelany this is Captain Savot, are you able to hear what I'm saying?"
He both listened personally as well as set his tricorder to record any sound wave readings from her location in case they were somehow weakened by the phasing effect and could be enhanced, though it was possible they'd hear her perfectly; a brief span of time would tell.
<Insert Yelany response if any>
Savot turned to Deis, "Commander, instruct Engineering to prepare a small portable generator with variable power settings. If Yelany's visibility is temporary we may be able to provoke it again with the same process, but I'd prefer not to have her risk herself further on the less controlled power levels coursing through console wires. Inform Dr. Chavet of this development, she may be able to prepare a chamber or fielded-off area in sickbay within which we can safely render Ms. Yelany visible and perhaps discern more information about what exactly is happening to her and the obelisk's other victims. She may wish to review Enterprise-D records involving 2 crewmembers rendered invisible and able to pass through other matter when exposed to an experimental Romulan cloak called an Interphase Generator. Anyon particles were successful in reconstituting said crew but we should conduct further tests to see if our situation is sufficiently similar."

::Too bad Chavet hadnt waited another few moments because a bit of her worry would have been eased right then. When the counselor gasps, Deis first thought is "pregnant" and opened her mouth to say something about the ships sensors not being sensitive enough to really be able to tell. But then...the counselor is vulcan so that so wouldnt have been IT. Then she remembers that we have boggins. This is shortly shown to indeed be the issue as the console goes all weird and then sparks...aaaand Yelany. It is terribly difficult not to swear and poetically. At the same time she is very glad to see that familiar if a little translucent, face and uniform. Yelany indicates by nodding that she can hear us, though we cannot make out any sound from her::
::The Captain turns to her and she looked up at him, nodding, so very glad that he has a plan. He is clearly the thinker to her doer.:: Aye Sir. Got an idear. Sickbay first. She needs t be where we can find 'er. ::She then turns back to Yelany and steps back.:: Yelany...come with me. Dinnae if yer visible fer long so follow close, stay where i can see ye, just so i know where ye be, girl. ::And with that she nods to the Captain and everyone else, heading out and holding the turbolift for her ghostly companion::
::Once inside, Deis keys in sickbays deck and turns to look at Yelany:: Listen. Know ye gotta be scared...gives ME th heebeejeebees. Capns got this...we will get ye guys back, dinnae fash yerself. First...while i can see ye. Ye will follow me...even if visibility breaks. Until yer seated in sickbay do everythin im tellin ye, aye? We cannae help ye if we dinnae know where ye be. Follow, obey...tis an order. ::then she smiles bracingly to the girl...juuuust as her visibility phases out. It has to be so strange to be standing there and have your Commander suddenly go blinky and eye searching for you:: Well...glad i got tha out then. Come on.
::From the turbolift she walks at a less swift clip than usual just to make sure Yelany can keep up. Though really the woman is invisible...shes not wounded! Irae and her boggin head into sickbay and Deis is immediately looking around for the Doctor. Once sighting her she would head over to her and say:: Doctor...we need a control quarantine room. There were a bit of sparks on th bridge...Yalany is here. She be righ behind me, just cannae see 'er anymore. Need a static chamber for safe keepins til we can short out th phase.

[El Salvador: Main Bridge] "Intriguing. Ms. Yelany this is Captain Savot, are you able to hear what I'm saying?" "Yes Captain" Yelany exclaimed, but no one reacted and she realized that no one could here her. So much for that. Her Grandmother growing up knew sign language because of a deaf sibling, but in today's modern world most hearing conditions where easily remedied and there was no need for that skill any more. She tried reaching for a nearby pad, but it slipped through her fingers. So much for typing out her warning. The only thing she had in her bag was the interpretive dance class she took in her first year at university and something told her that would not be much help. She followed Commander Irae to sickbay, feeling reassured by the Commander's calmness. -------------- Dr Chavet had just started to examine the files from the bridge when the doors to sickbay slid open and she could see Deis enter more slowly then normal. She left her office to great the first officer and could tell immediately that something was not normal. Doctor...we need a control quarantine room. There were a bit of sparks on th bridge...Yalany is here. She be right behind me, just cannae see 'er anymore. Need a static chamber for safe keepins til we can short out th phase.
"Oh thank the stars, ok I will have my team set one up right away. Yelany, we will take good care of you, everyone was so worried!" Nayomi directed that to the area to the Commander's right, not sure where exactly her missing crew member was. Sickbay became a flurry of activity as they set up the field. Nayomi went back to her office and pulled up what she could on the Enterprise D and the inter phase generator. The Anyon particles sounded like a logical course of action. so she had her technicians flood the field with a low amount of the particles. Initially there was no change, but after ten minutes a familiar figure slowly materialized on the bio bed. =A= Chavet to Captain Savot, it would appear that the anyon particles are having the desired effect.=A= =A= Can you hear her speak Doctor? =A= "Doctor!" Yelany jumped off the bed. "Doctor, we need to get the ship away from the Freighter! That device is going to go off again in two hours and it will put the entire crew out of phase!" Dr Chavet only caught about every second word, so Yelany sounded more like "Doctor...Get...from freighter... going... again... hours...put..crew.phase." "Increase the Anyon particles by 15%." she directed. a few minutes later Yelany was more in focus, and she repeated her warning. =A= Aye Captain, we can hear her now, and I think you should probably hear what she has to say yourself.=A=

=A= Aye Captain, we can hear her now, and I think you should probably hear what she has to say yourself.=A=, Savot heard Dr. Chavet report over intercom, clearly relieved to see her crewman alive if not quite completely well. Savot was on his feet before the echo of Chavet's words died and tapped his commbadge to reply when she'd finished speaking, "Understood Doctor; I'm on my way. I recommend checking the EMH's database for a lip-reading program; it may be helpful if we either lose audible contact with Yelany for some reason or manage to visually restore personnel on the Crosnik. Commander Irae, if such a program is indeed present, upload it to the Away Team's tricorders for field interpretation. If the freighter crew have critical information to share every moment could count. Also send Commander Delbridge the readings of the anyon levels Sickbay is currently employing to visualize Ms. Yelany, Savot out."
::Once the Doc gets moving, the Commander just steps back out of the way to get on with her next task in engineering. The comm from the Captain does pause her and turns her to the main console in sickbay:: =/\=Aye Sir=/\= ::She straight up searches the database itsself rather than calling the EMH into being...he just irks her. It only takes about 10 miutes to find the programming shes looking for, tapping in the codes to send this information to all away team tricorders. This done she turns to follow the rest of her orders, pulling up the anyon levels that Doctor Chavet sets and sending that information along to Delbridge, also adding in a "hang tight, were on this" message with it::
Leaving the bridge in the hands of an Andorian female Lt. Commander, Savot enters sickbay as Deis compiles the requested readings and sends a stiff upper lip message to rally Delbridge, the vulcan noting the latter with appreciation. Savot listens to Yelany's now fully worded warning and wastes no time, "Commander Irae when you reach Engineering instruct them to lock onto the freighter with a Tractor beam and make best speed towards the planet M'narin. The El Salvador B's surviving warp core is more powerful than the design typically slated for this class of vessel and as such the additional power at our disposal should allow us to enhance the structural integrity of the tractor beam to lessen the shearing stress and maintain a lock at higher warp speeds. Make sure to plot a course avoiding proximity to inhabited planets and any other vessel traffic. At 1 hour, we'll disengage engines allowing the freighter to continue moving forward under momentum, and we'll move the El Salvador to extreme sensor range for the duration of the next phase event at which point we'll re-acquire our tractor lock and continue to M'narin's orbit where a study of the ruins and the opposing obelisk in particular will help us deduce a permanent method of reconstituting its victims and ending any further phasing."

The journey to M'narin was pleasantly uneventful. Delbridge returned to the El Salvador just in time for the Starfleet ship to let the freighter drift far enough away that the next phase event would not affect the crew, then he returned to continue his work there. Back in sickbay several of Yelany's friends (including of course Henry) dropped by to see her, bringing a few things from her quarters and offering her words of thanks and encouragement.
Nayomi took the time to search through what she could find on similar events in the past. She came with a few examples, although among them the events on the Enterprise D that had given them the idea on using Anyon particles. She was perusing through Starfleet's records on the excavations of M'narin when Linarya returned with a padd in hand. "Doctor, I spoke with both my mother and great aunt about the story I was telling you about. In the earliest version of the story they told the priests had too magical devices, the one made them invisible and the second one helped them return to their original state. When the mad king destroyed the first device, it reacted by making the whole population invisible. They tried to get to the second device, but it was buried in the explosion. They could not dig it up, so they all perished."
"Hmmm, I wonder what the moral of that is supossed to be? Well nevermind, good work Linarya. There was a second device they where still digging up back on M'narin, black with red writing. If these stories the Suliban know are true and those people really where the Krish, then maybe that is the second device and we can use it to turn the freighter crew and Yelany back."
"Here, I wrote down the versions of the story they told me on here" The Suliban girl handed Nayomi the padd and was dismissed. Nayomi took the padd and headed to the bridge to share the theory with the Captain and other senior officers.
After some discussion a few key issues remained. Namely, what to do with the white stone. It was clearly dangerous and unstable, but also a very valuable artifact whose study could advance cloaking technology. But was it worth the risks? A way needed to be found to either repair it, or prevent it from sending out another pulse.
