Tiana rose to her feet, seeming content to keep her silence to brush off any embarrassment Ghes's unexpected presence may have caused. The next the Denobulan saw of her - as he'd lowered himself into the command chair - was her on the floor, unconscious, or worse.
"Sickbay! Medical emergency, bridge," he stabbed a finger at his arm panel, hoping Saryn had returned there from his visit with Telmak. Officers gathered round the fallen science officer; Ghes warded them off, keeping only his stand-in XO by his side while Lieutenant Hood ushered the rest back to their consoles.
Medical staff filed in, surrounding the fallen Trill. Ghes felt emotion beyond the decorum of command getting to him. He stood stone-faced as the medical staff went about his science chief. Of all the senior officers he'd served with Tiana he'd served with the longest - from the Victory-C those many years ago to the Enzio. As he remembered these moments, everything went wrong.
Dragging herself to her feet - babbling incoherently but with her words intercut with odd phrases seeming to come from somewhere else - Tiana forcefully pushed her way towards the turbolift while the bridge officers darted about in panic.
* * *
She seemed to have regained consciousness, murmuring strange words the context/s of which Ghes couldn't understand. Eventually the medical officer [OOC: Saryn/Savin?] stepped back, allowing the CO through. A circle of faces backdropped by the ceiling lights of the bridge appeared above Tiana, whose eyes were open but bleary, glazed. "Tiana?" Ghes asked, all serious, "What do you remember? It's not the first time you've seemed faint recently."
"You were out for ten minutes." Having thought she'd seemed 'off' recently, perhaps he should've suspected that something like this may happen. "You got to the turbolift and began demanding to see your children." He grinned, trying to ease her concern - although if he was honest, it was his own concern.
<Tag Tiana>
He was vaguely aware of a persistent beeping from a medical officer's tricorder. Turning to him, "Could this be something to do with Telmak's attack in Savin's quarters?" The officer began shaking his head, then tilted it as if to say he didn't know. He stared puzzledly at his tricorder.
"Ok, I recommend you get her to sickbay, Doctor. I would've called for it earlier but was... hesitant to have her moved."
<Tag Saryn/Sickbay staff>
"Lieutenant," he addressed Allan, "Ensure sickbay is secure; precise security measures I'll leave to your discretion. I know we already have security guards practically stepping on the toes of Saryn and Savin and guards outside... but you were there when Telmak confessed that his target had been Tiana, so..." he trailed off, too distressed to form proper argument.

* * *
Stepping into sickbay, his solemnity having deepened over the past half hour having heard the initial reports from sickbay, he called for Doctor Saryn.
If it was the symbiont, and not Tiana herself, there was - in a sense - a measure of relief to be had. Tiana Galwyn was a colleague and friend. Cet, at first, had seemed like an invasive presence, a parasitic creature looking for a carrier; forced upon them by the warmongering Admiral Patrizia Cain, whose crew it seemed she'd considered utterly dispensable regardless of their rank. Yet Cet - or was that Nawar? - had assisted Tiana in the 'attempted' capture of the rogue Cain, and furthermore was crucial to Tiana's survival. No matter how he felt about the symbiotic aspect of the Trills' culture, he'd have to see to the preservation of Tiana and Cet.
Saryn made his way over. Over the CMO's shoulder he espied Tiana laid out on the primary biobed the other side of sickbay, under dimmed lights. "How is she?" he asked eventually with a sigh.

“Understood, Admiral,” Hood interrupted attempting to save the Admiral the emotional drain. He had no need to challenge the Admiral’s decision. “Consider it done.”
Hood tapped his combadge, “Ensign E’kim, report to sickbay.”
“On my way, Lieutenant,” the Ensign responded.
Hood entrusted all the most important assignments to E’kim, one of the first Ferengi to join Starfleet. He requested E’kim after serving with him on the Victory-D. He entered sickbay in under five minutes.
“Lieutenant, reporting as ordered.” E’kim took his role seriously under Hood and appreciated Hood’s high regard for him.
“Otos, I need you to watch the Commander and keep her safe. Do not leave her side without permission from either the Admiral, medical staff or me. If medical staff need room, give it to them, but remain as close as you can without interfering in case you need to step in. I want hourly reports on her condition and who has contact with her and for how long. Otos entered Hood’s requests into his PADD for his future reports. Your only duty is in keeping Commander Cet’s guard.
“Understood Lieutenant,” said the young Ferengi.
“Remember, hear all…”
“…trust nothing,” finished Ekim.

Watching Tiana closely after she'd been transported to sickbay, Saryn couldn't give any conclusive answers. Her readings spiked all over the place, especially neurologically, and her Isoboramine levels were through the roof. "I do not know," he answered Gheskori's question, "there is not much I know about Trills, especially joined ones. But insofar I can see, she is losing her way. She is talking, but it is of nothing that I am familiar with. It is almost, as if Tiana is not Tiana if that makes any sense."
From Tiana, he glanced over at Savin's bed, the young Vulcan still unconscious, his life signs low, but steady. "I wish Savin was able to come over and assist now, he knows her better than I do, and he may be able to tell what is wrong."
Saryn glanced up at Gheskori, concern in his eyes. "There is nothing I can do for them," he stated gravely, then gave the Denobulan an isolinear chip. "A transcript of my conversation with Telmak, maybe it is of use to you. I cannot help either of them sir, my sickbay is not equipped to treat anything of this gravity. To help Tiana, we may need to return to the pools on Trill."

"... She is talking, but it is of nothing that I am familiar with. It is almost, as if Tiana is not Tiana if that makes any sense."
Ghes thought for a moment. He didn't know a great amount about Trills either, other than that in a joined Trill the symbiont's presence in the host's system was vital to both of their survival. From what he'd learnt of the species during his tenure as a research fellow at the Denobulan Institute of Bioengineering - this being before he'd even left the homeworld, except to visit the planet of their enemy of 200 years ago - there existed remnants of personalities, memories of previous hosts in a particular symbiont, then communicated to the mind of the current host, and this had been affirmed when he'd entered Starfleet and had started meeting a few of them.
As for sicknesses in the symbiont, however, he had no idea. The complete merge of personalities between host and symbiont meant it was difficult to ascertain exactly which one was suffering, or if any attempt at such a distinction was futile. The emergence of former hosts - if that's what'd happened in Savin's quarters and later on the bridge - might indicate an illness or loss of control on the host's part (Tiana), however that loss of control may be traced back to source as a defect in the symbiont. In short, it was all guesswork.
He nodded as Saryn told him of Savin's condition, how he might've been of help to Tiana and how the cytotoxin research while coming up with a cure had done nothing for him; the necrosis had already burrowed too deep.
Falling into a sullenness he couldn't recall having experienced since taking up command of the Enzio, Ghes kept vigil over Tiana's biobed; he lost track of the time, thirty minutes may have gone by perhaps even more. He made one attempt to speak to her during the time, but had received garbled words in return: jumbled monologues about children, bodyguards, pleas concerning an unrequited love - Ghes assumed some altered persona of Nawar.
<Tag Tiana>
Stricken mentally by his science chief's condition, he acknowledged the Ferengi security lieutenant keeping watch on the biobed then departed.
Saryn stopped him on the way out, holding forth an isolinear chip, "A transcript of my conversation with Telmak, maybe it is of use to you. I cannot help either of them sir, my sickbay is not equipped to treat anything of this gravity. To help Tiana, we may need to return to the pools on Trill."
Ghes met eyes with Saryn as he took the chip. It seemed there was an unspoken agreement, something almost telepathic between them in their returned stares. He stated matter-of-factly, "There are no other Trills on board; they might've been able to help. Thank you, Doctor. If there's anything you'd like to discuss regarding your son, my door is always open."

OOC: I feel like I didn't fully address everything in that last post (just above) - this gets us on our way to Trill and I think raises the stakes for both Tiana's and Savin's survival
IC: He brooded in his quarters, the lights low, only the periodically slow flashing of the outgoing communique graphic lighting up the room. Two valued crewmembers out of action. He thought about Savin's condition; if the treatment had worked perhaps right now the vulcan would be helping reconnect Tiana with her reality, with the prominent position she as host possessed in her complex symbiosis.
Suddenly his personal terminal lit up; his communique had been answered. "Admiral Gheskori. We received your hail, my apologies for our delayed response. I am Adjutant Cerin Xanth of the Symbiosis Commission. What can I do for you?"
Ghes leant into the terminal.
Fifteen minutes later the Enzio was on course for Trill at warp 9. Gheskori had returned to the bridge; he thought by seeing the illusory stars flash by - in fact they were just luminous locii of distortions in the warp bubble, as it propelled them through the supralight realm - that he'd be reassured that the Enzio was spurring on towards Trill as fast as it could.
Twenty minutes ago he'd played back the audial transcript of Saryn's encounter with Telmak. Given its content - specifically, Telmak's revelation of a cure existing aboard 1 of the 4 Romulan vessels in the sector - Ghes was horrified that he hadn't listened to it sooner. They would've been on their way to Trill much quicker, before he'd even talked with Xanth of the Symbiosis Commission. There were even greater causes for concern however: besides the desperate situation of Tiana and Savin's health, why, if Telmak could be trusted, was a Romulan Warbird on direct course for Trill? What could they possibly be after, except to instigate a war?
"Mr Hood, tactical display of the Trill sector on the viewscreen," he ordered the CTSO, "Zoomed on the Trill system with indication of direction of the Romulan border." An image appeared on screen, "How far are we from Trill, Mr Nowak?" he requested of the helmsman. 90 minutes was the response. "Mr Hood, scan surrounding space for tachyon signatures, warp disturbances, subspace variances, anything that can help us gain a tactical understanding of the Romulans' position in the sector. According to Telmak... one of their ships is on direct course for Trill."

"Tiana?" Ghes asked, all serious, "What do you remember? It's not the first time you've seemed faint recently."
Tiana blinked. She was on the bridge deckplate, staring at the ceiling. What had happened. Everything seemed fuzzy.
"You were out for ten minutes." Having thought she'd seemed 'off' recently, perhaps he should've suspected that something like this may happen. "You got to the turbolift and began demanding to see your children."
Tiana stared at him. That made no sense, and yet it reminded her of a dream. Perhaps it had actually happened. If it had actually occurred then what was happening to her, why couldn’t she remember? She shivered and tried to think.
“Kelis’s children. She wanted to see them.” Her voice was quiet. She eased herself in to a sitting position. She noticed her hands were shaking so she wrapped them round her knees.
“Something’s happening to me. To Cet. They’re all there.” She wasn’t sure if what she was saying made sense. It made sense in her head and yet there was evidence that her head wasn’t making any sense.
"Ok, I recommend you get her to sickbay, Doctor. I would've called for it earlier but was... hesitant to have her moved."
Tiana agreed and did her best to be a cooperative patient. It was clear that something was wrong with her and Cet. She lay in sickbay drifting in and out of consciousness, except now she suspect that it was only Tiana losing consciousness and that one or other of Cet’s previous hosts was dropping in the mean time. Not that that scared her any less.
There was a fire. There was a bomb about to go off. There was smoke in the air. The shuttle was leaking air. He was surrounded. She was under heavy fire. Her team were pinned down. The alarms were shrieking. He had a sword in his hand. She was using a sniper rifle. Her son had been killed. The woman he loved had betrayed him...
It was all too much...
Tiana sat up with a shriek. “Contact Elliane Ryat.” She flopped back on to the biobed. She didn’t think she had ever felt so tired. She ached and it felt as if someone was pounding on the inside of her skull.

“I need that fine-toothed comb, again,” Hood said aloud to himself. Hood spent hours trying to crack the Romulan cloaking code earlier, searching for any kind of subspace footprint. Again, multiple subspace variances appeared and dissipated in time. Hood knew the Admiral would like a finding by now.
“Sorry, Admiral, no tachyon signatures or warp disturbances detected,” Hood began as he brought up false-color highlighted subspace variances on the main viewer. “I’m trying to filter out the random subspace variances for a likely candidate.” For good measure, and old-time’s sake, he did a quick search of any anti-proton traces.
Nothing.
TAG Ghes
After the third lap of the planet, the computer detected a suspicious variance off of the port side. Trailing the Enzio, in low orbit, a subspace variance equivalent to the volume of a Warbird matched Enzio’s relative speed to the planet to maintain a constant distance.
About time.
“Admiral, we may have the warbird,” Hood said carefully, “it’s hard to tell considering we’re looking for a subspace needle in a haystack, but, this is the best entrant so far.” Hood brought up the variances estimated trajectory running alongside Enzio’s current heading. All the while, multiple variances appeared and dissipated with time.

The resourceful Lieutenant Hood kept up a continuous search for tachyons, anti-protons, subspace variances indicative of a cloaked Romulan vessel at warp speed, for the remainder of the Enzio's ETA to the Trill system. Having entered orbit, it wasn't long before the CTSO detected something quite suspicious indeed.
Ghes leant forward in the command chair. "Going by the magnitude of the subspace variance, Mr Hood, could you say for certain it's a Warbird, and what class would you say?"
<Tag Allan>
He'd already been in contact with the Symbiosis Commission, greeted by comm from the surface by the same official he'd had contact with via subspace, Cerin Xanth. She'd said the Commission had agreed to start 'preliminary' studies into whatever could've afficted Tiana and her symbiont, stating they'd come across a few cases like this before, but nothing that exactly matched the descriptions given to them by Ghes and others of the senior staff.
After the Enzio had sent the Commission all the medical data on Cet's condition, Xanth had insisted that Tiana be brought down to the Commission and the Symbiont pools so they could better evaluate the problem. However, given the new revelation of a very likely candidate for a Romulan vessel in low orbit, Ghes was hesitant to move Tiana anywhere - by shuttle or transporter - until they knew exactly what the Romulans wanted. Masters of subterfuge, they might be planning to disrupt the Enzio's plans, or the Romulan's designs could be entirely something else the problem was, they didn't know.
"They know we're here..." Ghes murmured to himself, "They might 'suspect' that we know they're here..." If the Romulan ship was their mysterious friend Commander Xelar's (who had given Telmak his orders to capture Tiana and had planted a Telmak hologram on board the Enzio to kill Saryn) then might he be acting alone if he was so intent on Trill? But then why were there 3 other Romulan warships also reportedly in the area?
"Helm, manoeuvre us into a lower orbit, below that of the cloaked Romulan vessel. Then, Lieutenant Hood, fire a quantum torpedo off their starboard bow, before they have a chance to react to our orbital adjustment." This was unlike Ghes, to take the initiative in such a forthright way, "Then open a channel to their ship. I've had enough of cloak and dagger... It's time to find out what they want."
<Tag Allan>
"They might just jump to warp, sir."
"This close to the planet?" Ghes asked his stand-in XO, "Well, they might."
Seconds later the bridge received a call from sickbay... Tiana, very happily, seemed to have gained lucidity for long enough to speak Elliane Ryat's name, someone who'd visited the Enzio in the past. Ghes slapped his forehead: Ryat knew more about Tiana's ongoing adjustment to the joining than most... How could he have forgotten?
"Contact Cerin Xanth... Ask to be patched through to Elliane Ryat and tell her we'll transport Tiana down as soon as the Romulans either take flight or make their intentions clear. Unless Representative Ryat would like to join us up here?" He had the Symbiosis Commission's return message passed on to sickbay immediately upon receipt.

“Going by the magnitude of the subspace variance, Mr Hood,” Admiral Ghes asked, leaning forward in his command chair, “could you say for certain it's a Warbird? And, what class would you say?”
“Could easily be a Warbird based on our readings,” Hood began, “as for class, it may be an upgraded D'deridex or a class similar to the Scimitar. Based on its ability to cloak, I’m leaning toward a Scimitar.”
Hood then displayed the possible ship schematics in the corner of the main viewscreen with a three-dimensional rotating model. “Last we’ve heard, it had 52 disruptor banks and 27 photon torpedo bays, about five times the armament of any other Romulan ship encountered earlier. It may have a thalaron radiation weapon and several Scorpion-class attack fighters.”
Hood mentally compared the ship’s graphic to the Enzio’s 18 phaser arrays and three quantum torpedo launchers, considering attack and defense strategies. “I have the Enzio on standby for multi-vector assault mode, at your command, Admiral.”
“Lieutenant Hood, fire a quantum torpedo off their starboard bow, before they have a chance to react to our orbital adjustment.” This was unlike Ghes, to take the initiative in such a forthright way. "Then, open a channel to their ship; I've had enough of cloak and dagger...iIt's time to find out what they want.”
As ordered Hood fired the quantum torpedo off their starboard bow and opened a channel to the subspace variance.
“Channel open, sir.”

Elliane Ryat, through the Symbiosis Commission had informed the Enzio - in its new unexpected stand-off with a probable but invisible Scimitar-type Warbird - she would await the Romulan ship's response before having either herself beamed up, or Tiana beamed down. She also, Ghes had gathered, was very obstinate concerning the matter of there being a Scimitar-type Warbird in orbit of her homeworld.
"This could be constituted as an act of war..." his stand-in XO said, leaning into whisper the words. Ghes didn't want to agree with him, although he was increasingly inclined towards that position. A Romulan capital ship in orbit of a Federation world, well inside the border... it was ludicrous.
“I have the Enzio on standby for multi-vector assault mode, at your command, Admiral.”
"Hold off on that, but keep it on stand-by," Ghes replied to Allan.
A Scimitar. He was very much regretting having Hood fire that quantum torpedo now. The cerulean star of the torpedo spiralled off into the deep distance; minutes passed by, no change in the visual field before them, only the illuminated limb of Trill as the Enzio pursued the sunrise.
As Ghes was beginning to wonder if there was a Warbird there at all - although he also knew the Romulans made an art out of the waiting game - the Enzio's hail was finally answered. A well-lit bridge filled the viewscreen before them, nothing like the shadowy chamber of the first Warbird of this class - the Scimitar itself - which Starfleet's flagship had encountered 22 years ago.
"This is Rear Admiral Gheskori of the Federation starship Enzio," he repeated his first hail, "You are trepassing in the territory of the United Federation of Planets and we must assume you're in direct violation of the Treaty of Algeron -"
"Please, Rear Admiral, that worn-out treaty...? How many times has it been violated, by both sides? Too many to count." The Romulan CO stood, "I am Admiral Sotok of the IRW Khrzan, representing the Star Empire in diplomatic talks with the Trill Symbiosis Commission."
"I've been in contact with the Commission, Admiral..." Ghes replied, taking in the looks from his bridge staff, "They made no mention of any diplomatic talks. In fact they seem outraged by your presence. For a start, why would a Romulan delegation proceed to a Federation member world without notifying Starfleet Command or our Diplomatic Corps?"
"It seems you're somewhat out of the loop," Sotok smirked before the Romulan cut the channel abruptly.
"Detecting a shift in subspace variance," a bridge officer reported. "The Khrzan's moving, I believe to a higher orbit."
"Position us between their approximate position, if you can estimate it, and the planet." Ghes didn't need to remind anyone that Scimitars could fire while cloaked, but an opposing ship presenting itself as three targets was much harder to incapacitate than one. It also allowed for the possibility of triangulation of fire. "Prepare for MVAM, Lieutenant Hood. First though, get yourself below. You have command of the secondary hull," he grinned at his CTSO despite the situation and watched him head for the turbolift.
<Tag Hood>
"Contact Elliane Ryat at the Symbiosis Commission," he ordered sharply, turning back to the rest of the bridge crew, "Tell her we'll be beaming down Tiana to her position shortly after our switch to MVAM. I'm trusting in the Romulans not to take the time to find out which section contains Tiana and for them to try and disrupt our transporter beam." It was a big gamble, Ghes knew.
Shortly before MVAM initiated, the first torpedo from the distant cloaked Warbird hit the saucer section. "Activate MVAM," Ghes ordered, hitting his intercom, "Secondary and tertiary hull sections. Evasive manoeuvres, utilise the preprogrammed attack patterns. Secondary hull prepare to beam Command Galwyn... Attempt to triangulate fire!" his voice was drowned out as the vessel shook, further torpedoes and disruptor beams impacting the shields.

“Me??” screamed Hood inside his head, but all that could come out was “Yes, sir.” Wasn’t there a lieutenant commander in a command position more qualified for this task? Hood automatically left his station and entered the turbolift. The doors closed just as Hood caught the last of Ghes’s grin.
“Secondary Hull, Bridge.”
Is this a test? A promotion? Deep down, he wanted a try at the command chair and the secondary hull was a good place to start. But, that was deep, deep down. Hood trained in all security aspects at the Academy, not seeking command. He was comfortable in security and knew its expectations inside and out. Though he was a qualified officer in security, he did not feel prepared for the command chair, yet.
“I should have told him that my place was at his side as CTSO,” Hood thought to himself.
Had Ghes heard of Hood’s attempt at the Kobayashi Maru? Though the infamous no-win scenario was for command-track cadets only, his team snuck onto the simulated bridge and activated the program. Each member of his team took turns in the command chair before being discovered. After watching various attempts and strategies, Hood, during his turn as captain, challenged one of the Klingon captains to a duel out of desperation: Bat’leth vs. Longsword. If the wielder bat’leth wins, all crew members’ lives, including Hood’s ship, would belong to the Klingons. If the Longsword wins, the Kobayashi Maru and Hood’s ship would be free to go. Unfortunately, Hood never found out if the Klingon’s actually accepted.
As far as Hood knew, the mischief was swept under the rug and forgotten because, if taken seriously, each team member would have been expelled from the Academy. Luckily, the admiral that interrupted their trespass was benevolent seeing that no harm was done.
The turbolift doors opened. Hood hesitated when stepping onto the bridge. The Romulans probably would not accept challenge to the death. He sat in the commanding officer’s chair.
“The following officers and crew, report to the Secondary Hull: Ensign E’kim, Doctor Nalla…”

Sickbay was quiet. Maybe too quiet, Saryn reasoned as he looked around. He knew the admiral's offer to talk was still valid, but what would they talk about? He turned as he heard alarms going off, then noticed that it was a red alert. No doubt, the ship was somehow under attack, he thought as he felt the deckplates shudder. MVA? It had to be, even though he didn't reckognize the pattern.
Moving back to his two patients, he made sure Tiana was comfortable, while they waited for her to be transported. "Do not worry Tiana, they will take excellent care of you. They can do more for you than I ever could, but not for lack of wanting to. My son would never forgive me if I let anything happen to you."
(Tag Tiana, before transport, if aware of him speaking to her)
Stepping back, Saryn signaled the bridge that they were ready for transport and seconds later he watched the tell tale blue haze of the transporter disintergrating Tiana's body. A least that made two security officers available for other guard duty again, Saryn realized, while watching the two that stood near Savin's bed.
Worry touched the older Vulcan's eyes as he watched his still unconscious son. There was no improvement in his condition, only slow deterioration and there was nothing he could do about it. Nothing, but watch and make him comfortable. And then, there were the two that constantly followed him around, much to his annoyance. He was capable of protecting himself, he didn't need a babysitter.
"Saryn to Bridge, please tell me that Commander Galwyn arrived safely?"
(tag bridge)

Gheskori watched the viewscreen as the other two hull sections peeled off into the blackness, constantly rotating positions so they might be able to triangulate fire onto the Khrzan Warbird, if they could expose it. He tapped a button on his arm panel, "Secondary, tertiary hull sections. Report readiness."
"In position," his temp XO reported from the tertiary section. Lieutenant Hood's report followed shortly thereafter. Ghes was pleased at the CTSO's willingness to step into the position so readily, although he suspected Hood would rather be on the main bridge. He suspected though that as Saryn would be irked to say the least by the constant presence of security guards - replicating the vulcan's every move - Ghes would be similarly disaffected if his security chief was always close by, impressive though Hood's dedication was to his CO after their 'spat' in the ready room over Telmak's right of access to the ship.
"Ok. Phasers, torpedoes available to each sections, fire full spread. Maximise coverage of fire concentrating primarily on the approximated position of the Warbird," Gheskori ordered. He was well aware of the incident 22 years ago involving the encounter with the Scimitar itself. The Starfleet flagship CO's initial tactic in dealing with the unknown quantity that was the cloaked Scimitar was required reading.
After numerous evasive patterns and quasi-random fire - the three sections banking and rotating endlessly like a shoal of fish about a whale - a hit on the Khrzan was finally recorded, by the secondary section. "Excellent, Lieutenant!" Ghes commed, just before another impact from the Khrzan knocked him out of his chair and clear halfway across the bridge towards the viewscreen. The other bridge crew were similarly affected.
He choked on fumes rising from consoles, dragging himself back to the chair, "Damage report!"
"Four plasma torpedoes impacted our port side! Hull breaches on decks 3 through 6," Hood's stand-in reported. "Returning fire, triangulating with the secondary section."
"Sir, the tertiary section is critically damaged. The XO's reporting he believes he has no choice but to jump to warp, escape the combat zone til this is over."
Ghes grimaced; that would take two of their nacelles with them. "Give him the go ahead," he said eventually, "What about the secondary hull?" He gripped his arm rests as the ship executed another set of the pre-programmed manoeuvres. He wished the helm would warn him when he was about to initiate his evasive programs.
"Mostly intact," tactical answered, "Except... Sir, they've just taken another disruptor hit... reporting massive damage in and behind the bridge section." The Denobulan concentrated on the moment; he couldn't allow personal concerns to influence judgement at this critical phase, particularly if his own bridge was the next target. "Sir, the Khrzan's breaking off!"
He looked up at the viewscreen; the Scimitar class, its only visible sections bristling with continuing phaser and torpedo impacts, was accelerating out of the combat zone. "Good... What's going on with the secondary section?"
"Their main sickbay on deck 2 has suffered critical damage... There's a hull breach. If sickbay remains fixed to the ship's structure it will be torn away by torsional stress, no hope of recovery at least not with anyone left alive. The secondary bridge's condition... unclear at the moment, sir."
Ghes recalled that sickbay was designed so it could isolate itself from the rest of the ship, in case of loss of chemical containment - necessitating quarantine - or like any critical ship facility so that it could physically detach itself from the ship's internal structure, allowing it to 'float free'. "Order the following of Hood. Cut sickbay free from the internal structure, allow it to float free inside the ship's chassis... Then... beam down the entire sickbay complex to the surface, as close to the Symbiosis Commission HQ as possible."
<Tag Allan>
"What?!"
"You heard me!" He only hoped there were people alive on the secondary bridge to acknowledge his order. Sickbay wouldn't last long while it was still exposed to vacuum, while it was still attached to the dorsal side of the secondary hull that'd suffered heavy damage.
<Tag Allan, Saryn, Tiana>
The Enzio was being hailed. Ghes, exhausted and injured, blood running down his left cheek, nodded to the tactical officer. "Admiral Gheskori... Are you ready to talk?" the Khrzan's commander said gleefully.

“Shields down to forty percent, Lieutenant!” yelled the panicked junior-grade helmsmen through the smoked filled bridge. Hood felt the same panic, though masking it behind his command chair.
“Damage Report!” Hood called out to whoever was listening, gripping the command chair’s arms harder in his grasp. Even with the safety harness, he felt as if he could be tossed straight from his seat of authority.
How is Gracie? How is Sami-Jo? Yahweh will preserve them, and keep them alive; and they shall be blessed upon the earth: and Thou wilt not deliver them unto the will of our enemies.
“We lost our lower phaser array!” shouted a coughing tactical officer, lights flickering on the consoles behind him. “Sickbay is critical! No official response!”
“E’kim! Get to sickbay and help Nalla!”
Hood’s eyes finally began burning. He heard someone attempting to put out an electrical fire when the console behind the person erupted in sparks and fire, swallowing his attempt and his soul.
Hood risked unfastening his harness and dashed to the helm. We need something old.
“Helm, take us out five kilometers at full impulse!” Hood shouted over the rocking ship, “Tactical, cut power to the nacelles and drop shields another ten percent!”
“Lieutenant, we barely have shields to drop! We won’t make…”
“That’s an order, Lieutenant!” Hood roared, glaring at his untrusting tactical officer as if he was a mutineer.
Hood leaned back down toward the ensign’s ear. Gripping the console he bellowed, “Helm, when we hit five k, cut all power to engines allowing us to quickly drift to a facing position. Then, use the Picard Maneuver to take us in close. Tactical, squeeze off a couple shots at point-blank-range after the maneuver is completed! Helm, Picard Maneuver at a random destination and repeat twice more. By then, they’ll have us figured out.”
The secondary hull appeared to be out of the game, limping away from the battle. With inertial dampeners weakening, the crew felt the quick turn of the ship at the five kilometer mark, throwing some off their feet already unsteady feet.
“Mark!” Hood roared a moment before the ship blasted back toward their enemy. The false sensor image began taking phantom hits.
“Fire!”
The phaser and torpedo blasts took out the Romulans’ starboard shields. Before the Romulans could lock onto the newest target under their nose, they jumped thirty degrees under the Romulans’ portside.
“Fire!”
Again, the Romulans were hit hard, knocking their aft shields down fifty percent. Hood gripped the helmsmen’s shoulder in triumph.
Hood felt confidence soaking back in the darkened bridge over the cries of pain from someone on the deck plate. The helms over repeated the same maneuver, aiming with a random angle. Tactical locked onto their main weapons array.
The Romulans were not to be fooled again. Somehow they caught on faster than anticipated. The explosion tossed the crew across the bridge. Hood slammed against the bulkhead and rolled toward the deck. The secondary hull pitched at a sickening forty-five degree angle.
Gracie attempted to skip her rock across the Caloosahatchee River near the old Xindi Incident Memorial, but it splashed at the shore instead.
“I think she’s starting to get it, Al,” Sami-Jo laughed, mocking her husband from the tree overlooking the ancient river oxbow.
“You laugh now, but I bet she’ll have it figured out before you,” Allan half-joked back to her. “Hold it like this, baby,” Hood instructed his daughter while guiding her hand.
After slamming the smooth stone back against the beach with a loud splash the second time, Gracie turned her face to her father and yelled in her sweet baby voice, “the Admiral is ordering us to release sickbay from the ship! We are to beam it near the Symbiosis Commission HQ!”
“Gracie?” Hood asked toward his recovering tactical officer, using the console to support himself as the ship tilted.
“Lieutenant Hood?”
“Do as the Admiral orders,” Hood said as he slipped into unconsciousness. “You have the bridge…”

Representative Elliane Ryat
Elliane paced in her office as she waited to hear what the Romulan warbird was going to say. She was worried for Tiana and Cet; but, if she was honest she knew the majority of her worry was for the young woman to had basically given up her life to save a symbiont. Elliane knew that the Symbiosis commission would sacrifice Tiana to save Cet, as recalled corrected one of Tiana’s brothers had died under similar circumstances. Yes, these days a symbiont could be removed without killing the host but it was still a tramatic process and if the host was ill or weakened then there was a reasonable chance they wouldn’t survive the process.
Elliane had suggested that it made most sense for Tiana to be moved to the Commission medical facility. That was where the medics who were specialised in treating conditions affecting joined Trill were. She had also decided that she would attend herself. She had also contacted Tiana’s parents and assured them she would contact them as soon as there was more information.
*************************************************
C1C Tiana Galwyn Cet
There was too much, too many threats, too many dangers. How could she survive? There was no way he could have survived…
From beyond the whirl of chaos Tiana became aware of some words coming to her. At the moment was incapable of putting a name to the speaker but she knew that she trusted them. "Do not worry Tiana, they will take excellent care of you. They can do more for you than I ever could, but not for lack of wanting to. My son would never forgive me if I let anything happen to you."
If whoever it was believed whatever was happening was for the best then Tiana would have to believe it too. If Tiana believed something then it passed smoothly to Cet and to the other hosts. Between the 11 minds trapped in the seemingly endless stream of memories a spark of hope was born.
************************************************
Representative Elliane Ryat
Elliane had made it to the Symbiosis Commission Medical Centre and was standing at the bedside of the unconscious Tiana. A cluster of medics had swarmed around her when she had first arrived but now there was one medic checking her vital signs and making notes. Apparently, even here Tiana was a puzzle. Elliane walked to one side and made an effort to contact the Enzio, this was her third attempt since arriving at the centre. The signal was apparently no getting through. =/\=This is Representative Ryat trying to contact the USS Enzio. Come in please=/\=
Tag: Anyone?
It was only moments later that one of the orderlies ran in to the room shouting something about the some room materialising on the main lawn. Elliane glanced back at Tiana but knew she was getting the best help she could get, making a decision she went out to see what had arrived.

"Attempt to make contact with Hood... Request a damage report and approximate casualties," he said, wearied by the fight as he slumped in his command chair. The bridge was dark, bathed in red light, stations sparking and an acrid odour of burnt circuitry on the air. "Prepare to recombine the two sections. Any secondary section personnel requiring immediate medical assistance, advise them to set up a triage centre in their mess hall until we can dock." With shields raised due to the presence of the Khrzan, Ghes couldn't transport those more critically injured in the secondary section to the small sickbay in the primary section.
<Tag Allan>
"Was sickbay successfully transported to the surface?" he demanded, subsequently being shown on the viewscreen a flickering topographical map of the region around the Symbiosis Commission. The image zoomed, showing a sward of incandescent lawn outside what Ghes surmised was the main structure of the Commission - assuming sickbay had arrived at the correct coordinates. A small glinting object shone on the lawn, an even smaller humanoid shaped figure striding towards it, followed by several other figures swarming out of the Symbiosis Commission's main structure.
"That's sickbay, sir." Ghes nodded in response, relieved and disbelieving that the manoeuvre had actually worked. He'd visualised a horrible scenario of a dimmed sickbay tumbling away into the deep distance - finally shaken loose by the surrounding struts, supports, bulkheads - ceiling gouged open, devoid of atmosphere and life.
"What now?" tactical asked.
His answer was stony, "Hail the Khrzan. They're in our space... It seems fair we challenge them." Despite the Enzio's loss to the ship, which, alarmingly to them all still may have a thalaron radiation generator aboard, Ghes wasn't willing to give ground. They had after all, forced the Romulan Admiral's ship into retreat, albeit a tactical one.
He drew himself up, wiping the trickling blood clear of his temple, unknowingly leaving a smear of crimson across his cheek, "Admiral Sotok... Admiral Gheskori of the Federation starship Enzio. You're trespassing in Federation space and have presented no evidence as to the legitimacy of your presence here. Furthermore, you have attacked this starship without provocation. I can only conclude, that you in fact don't have a diplomatic mission here, and that you had ulterior motives for crossing the neutral zone.
Sotok tried to interrupt but Ghes had already ploughed on, "I am willing to overlook this transgression, seeing as no harm has been done to the people of Trill, if you would surrender a particular item to my vessel. However, note I'll be reporting to Starfleet your vessels' trespassing in our territory - you won't find a way through next time. An expatriate, and traitor to both our peoples, Telmak of the House of Hirnak, claims there is an antibody aboard your vessel that will cure a necrotic illness, the type that may be induced by exposure to a particular poison, like that on the blade your Commander Xelar gave to Telmak."
The Romulan's lip curled, halfway between amusement and derision, "Where is Telmak? And this antibody, cure? Whatever you want to call it, we know nothing of it," he said almost dismissively.
"Telmak's in our brig. And I don't believe you don't have the antibody."
Sotok leant forward, his face filling nearly all of the screen, "We know nothing of any cure, and I hardly think you're in a position to make such demands. Lower your remaining shields and prepare to surrender your vessel, or vessels..." He sat back, gesturing, "You must realise that you've been defeated here, Admiral."
Or we could run, Ghes thought, Report to Starfleet the situation here and return in force. By that time however, it could all be over. The Romulans would eventually leave, after having achieved whatever they came here to do, and he'd be abandoning Saryn, Savin, Tiana, to whatever their eventual fates on the surface. No; he had to stay.
"Gheskori, out." The Romulan's bemused, transmuting to furious face dissolved from the viewscreen as Ghes marched towards his ready room. "Maintain position," he ordered of the helmsman, "Notify me of any change in status of Sotok's ship, and when we dock with the secondary hull."
<Tag Allan, All>
=/\=This is Representative Ryat trying to contact the USS Enzio. Come in please=/\=
"Representative Ryat." Ghes nodded as the Trill appeared on his personal terminal, "You found our sickbay...? I must apologise. It was the only way to save the facility and my medical personnel contained within. I understand... Savin, the son of my Chief Medical Officer, has grown close to Tiana... He may be able to assist your people in finding a cure for Cet's illness, yet he suffers from a life threatening condition also."
"The Romulans will not leave," he replied wearily, sitting back in his seat and watching the planet below. Somewhere down there, the Khrzan drifted in waiting, cloak restored, a shadow in the night. "I assure you we will not leave orbit until you've found a way to cure Tiana. We won't leave you at the mercy of the Romulans. Somehow we'll find a cure for Savin's ailment." Indeed, Ghes thought, he envisaged a stalemate between the Enzio and the Khrzan, neither side sure of what the other desired, both resolved to remain at Trill until their goals were achieved.

OOC: My last post was somewhat useless. Hopefully this one will give people more things to do The two remaining sections of the Enzio closed the gap between them, the secondary section rotating with a burst of starboard thrusters to align it with the central line of its less damaged partner. The hole in the dorsal surface of the secondary section where sickbay and the aft section of the secondary bridge had used to be was soon to be enclosed within the Enzio's main hull, shutting out the vacuum. Ghes feared what damage there would be. He'd not received a report from Hood, had assumed the worst considering the damage that'd been done to the secondary bridge. Science and Ops reported they were reading 5 lifesigns on the secondary bridge, and 67 altogether on that section. That couldn't mean too many losses. His temporary XO on the tertiary section that'd had to flee the system had 54 aboard, meaning overall casualties over the three sections couldn't be more than 14 dead. "Get down to the secondary bridge," he ordered of a security officer, "Have all injured transported to the sickbay in our section." "We've got intraship," the communications officer said. Docking was complete. The Enzio was reconstituted, to as great a degree as was possible; the Romulan Warbird Khrzan remained hidden, a shadow stalking an orbit of Trill, presumably. "Continue to scan for spatial disturbances. Scan for tachyon emissions, too." The Scimitar class gave off no tachyons while under cloak, however, if that cloak had been weakened by an attack, it could be emitting something of that sort. "Verify whether or not it's still in orbit, or in the system if you can," he said to the tactical officer. "Yes, sir." "Gheskori to Lieutenant Hood. Can you hear me, Lieutenant." A female voice answered after a delay, "We've had to take him to the sickbay in the primary hull, sir. He slipped into unconsciousness shortly after giving his last order. His condition is stable, sir, for now." "Acknowledged. Keep me appraised." <Tag Allan>Gheskori had little time for relief but if there was such a time, this was it. Hood had in a short time become a very valuable asset; one didn't fritter away assets. He'd been at the site of every dangerous situation, ensuring the crew's safety; alternately, shortly after joining the ship he'd questioned his orders and threatened to resign his commission! These officers were the best officers. "Contact Elliane Ryat at the Symbiosis Commission," he said quietly. The Commission acknowledged their hail and a visual feed was routed to the viewscreen. Ryat stood there; teal-collared Starfleet officers and one of them, not a Starfleet officer but their leader (Saryn), were in the background, seeing to each others' wounds, as well as a Ferengi security officer whose name Ghes had forgotten. <Tag Tiana/Ryat, Saryn, Allan (E'Kim)>"Representative," Ghes nodded. "Has any progress been made with Tiana. What are her symptoms?" He awaited her reply. "The last we observed, she was exhibiting signs of what we might call psychosis, and/or multiple personality disorder. It seemed previous hosts of Cet wanted dominance in her mind." The Representative made it clear she was aware of this; it was a classic symptom of several symbiont-host illnesses - a physical disorder in the symbiont that translated to a mental disorder in the host. However the particular type of Cet's current illness had never been encountered before. "All psychiatric disorders exist in spectra, don't they?" Ghes said, partly to himself. "I mean, they're not so easily categorised into one condition or another." Ryat answered as if she was teaching a school child. "How are my staff? I see Dr Saryn in the background there. Saryn? Hello. Where is your son?" <Tag Tiana, Saryn>A security officer came rushing onto the bridge. "Sir, we've got a problem!" he stumbled to the floor, having charged breathless out of the turbolift. Ghes looked around bemused. "The brig, Admiral. The forcefields were knocked out by the Romulans' attack. Telmak's gone!" "Scan for Romulan lifesigns!" he ordered.

Running a sickbay with the staff split over three places was one thing, but for Saryn, running his sickbay with a split staff during a right combat was something else. "Secure the patients!" he called out, running to the nearest bed to secure the patient to it, to keep him from rolling right off. "You!" He pointed at a random nurse. "Secure the carts, make sure nothing can injure anyone working here."
"Yes doctor," the nurse replied and grabbed a co-worker to get it done while other nurses were running back and forth to secure the patients.
For a moment, Saryn had the feeling of the atmosphere dropping briefly in sickbay, but any attempt to reach the bridge came back as static. He could hear other calls, but apparently they could get nothing out. He staggered as the ship was struck again, ducking as sparks were flying all around. Fire and oxygen was dangerous but he dared not take his son off life support, he could stop breathing any moment and he wasn't going to allow his son to choke to death.
"What is going on," he scowled as he retreated to his office, finding his computer screen blank as if it was disconnected or too damaged to function properly. A wave of nausea washed over him suddenly and he grabbed the edge of his desk so tightly, his fingers were leaving dents in the surface.
"Take over, make sure my prior orders are carried out, I am going to the bridge," Saryn called, pointing at the nurse he'd set to work before. He walked towards the doors, watched them slide apart and then....found him walking right onto a lawn into a somewhat cloudy environment.
The Vulcan froze as he stepped onto the grass, glancing around in confusion. "Where are we?" he asked, watching equally surprised Trill look his way.

== Later ==
Seeing Gheskori, Saryn walked forward to meet him. "Savin has been tranferred to the Trill medical facility where they are also treating Tiana. Unfortunately, I have no promising news on her condition just yet but we are working on it. Have you recovered the cure to Savin's illness?"

"I'll leave you to it," he said to the Ops officer who was persistent in his internal scans for the escaped Romulan. Telmak had taken advantage of the offline forcefields and broken his custody in the brig; the Enzio's crew, however were unable to locate him. How had he evaded detection? The brig he'd been secured in was in the primary hull section, the same section that contained Ghes and the deputy department heads. He signalled to two officers to follow and walked into the turbolift, heading for the transporter room. The shields would be lowered for something close to a thousandth of a second to allow he and the two officers to be beamed to the surface. He knew the Romulans - wherever they may be - would be expecting such a move and would be prepared to take advantage of the momentary shield lapse, but they couldn't count on the countermeasures the Enzio could employ in the form of a secondary shield grid that would block anything they could get through the main shields within that 1/1000 second time period. They were beamed down into the reception area of the Symbiosis Commission. "Admiral Gheskori of the USS Enzio," he nodded to the Trill desk clerk. "Where is Elliane Ryat?" "She's on the lawn, Admiral," the desk clerk replied. "The lawn?" "That's where your sickbay materialised. She's with your medical staff." Gheskori frowned, "I see." He dispatched the two officers with him to check on Tiana, the information on her location given to them by the desk clerk, and looked about for an exit to the building. He found his way through its concentric corridors to the outside and was blinded by the light. Wide white stone steps descended to a vast swathe of lawn beyond which lay a sparkling lake and above which was a hazy blue-white sky. Sickbay was the one object that stuck out starkly from the surroundings: a metallic hulk edged in torn duranium and set at an angle due to the mechanics of the forced disconnection with the surrounding secondary hull. The door to sickbay was half-open. His eyes centred on a figure marching towards him. He shielded his eyes from the sun. It was Saryn, "Savin has been tranferred to the Trill medical facility where they are also treating Tiana. Unfortunately, I have no promising news on her condition just yet but we are working on it. Have you recovered the cure to Savin's illness?""Unfortunately no," Ghes said, looking down, "The commander of the Romulan ship that attacked us 'claims' to know nothing of any cure, contrary to what Telmak told us about that ship. I'm sorry, Doctor." He looked behind Saryn at the metallic fragment of the Enzio, "I'm also sorry about your sickbay. I tried to get a message through but the secondary hull wasn't responding. I wasn't sure you or Lieutenant Hood had made it." "We'll continue searching for a cure. In the meantime I think it's best to reunite you with your patient." He was of course referring to Tiana. "Perhaps it would be best if Tiana and Savin were in the same ward." He pondered for a moment. "Also, I think you ought to know, Telmak has escaped from the brig. We've been unable to locate him." <Tag Saryn, All> - OOC: Let's keep it up guys, I know we've fallen behind our usual rate this month and that's my fault - I've been running low on inspiration lately and have perhaps left little opportunity for you all to get a look in - let's get back on track

A blinding light burst behind Hood’s eyelids. Gracie? Sami-Jo? He attempted to shield his arm against it but to no avail. Am I dead? Is this it? Hood scanned the distance for New Jerusalem, only blinding whiteness. Silence. Where is the voice of the archangel? Did the other believers already rise? Have I been called up into the air?
Suddenly, Hood felt people pulling his arms and shoulders back. They’re stopping me from being called, he lethargically thought to himself, and fought their pulls. The blinding light began to give way. Blurry movements and shapes came out of the light as it darkened.
Next, his head began to pound, the beating of an eternal drum in his ears. Nausea flooded his instincts and he leaned over the sickbay’s biobed to retch.
“Damage Report!” he called harshly, but only quenched laughter greeted him. Hood’s desperate fight to right himself was merely a feeble attempt. The nurses gently leaned him back onto the bed, with the aide of his drowsiness, dizziness, and sluggishness.
“The Admiral has disengaged the multi-vector assault mode and united the three sections together, Lieutenant,” an orderly proclaimed while administering a hypospray, “you didn’t miss anything.”
“Sami? Gracie? Where’s my family?”
“We’re here, Husband,” Sami-Jo answered holding a curious baby girl in her arms, “let them treat you.” Gracie watched in amusement as doctors, nurses, and orderlies gave instructions and treated patients. Gracie clapped and laughed at all the commotion.

Representative Elliane Ryat.
Elliane looked at the room which had materialised on the lawn outside the medical centre. It was clearly Starfleet construction. She saw that one of the ground security staff was working to get the doors open. Eventually they hissed open. A Vulcan stepped out and almost missed his footing on the grass. Elliane’s eyebrows rose
"Where are we?" he asked.
"You are on Trill in the grounds of the Symbiosis Commmission Medical Centre. I am Reprecentative Elliane Ryat. Welcome to my homeworld, Doctor."
Tag: Saryn.
Elliane was now able to look through the doors, it was indeed a complete medical bay. Power was still mostly on, and the staff were still working seeming unaware that they were now planetside. One or two looked up when the doors hissed open and Elliane could see confusion when they registered the lawn and daylight outside.
“Greetings everyone,” Elliane said “Welcome to Trill. What’s going on?”
As it turned out the medical staff, at least the ones that weren’t too caught up in something medical to answer had no idea what had happened. Including no idea that they weren’t on the Enzio any more.
Elliane pinched the bridge of her nose slightly and then tried to communicate with the Enzio again. Maybe fourth time would be the charm.
=/\=This is Representative Ryat trying to contact the USS Enzio. Come in please=/\=
=/\=Representative Ryat.=/\= Ghes nodded as the Trill appeared on his personal terminal, =/\=You found our sickbay...? I must apologise. Elliane nodded briskly. She was certainly more than capable of taking charge of all the non-medical necessities relating to such a thing. She had become quite fond of Tiana during her stay on the Enzio. She had admired the younger woman’s spirit and dedication to fight through what had happened to her
=/\= I will look after you people down here.=/\= Elliane said. =/\=How about you and the rest of your ship? I understood there were some Romulans?=/\=
=/\=The Romulans will not leave,=/\= he replied. Elliane thought he looked tired.

Elliane had quickly put two and two together, looked back at Saryn. "I can arrange transfer of Tiana and Savin to the medical centre. You and the rest of your staff are welcome to come also. "I promise you we will do the best for Tiana and your son."
Elliane left out the part where it might become necessary to remove Cet which could kill Tiana.

********************** Sometime later
Elliane was technically surplus to requirements in the medical centre but she had found that she didn’t want to go home. She had been conferring quietly with Tiana’s parents Cestra and Leral Galwyn who had arrived and were the science officer’s next of kin. They had spend time at their daughter's side and were now sitting in one of the waiting areas with Elliane. She knew they had all ready lost child to save a symbiont, Elliane didn’t know what it would do to them to lose Tiana too. Apparently her surviving brother, Havan Ren, was also on his way to the medical centre.
She knew she could be diplomatic and calming and talk them through what had happened without distracting the medical staff who were still trying to find the cause.
She was quite surprised to receive a communication from the Enzio , although she supposed they were waiting on news just as much as she was.She took the call on a viewscreen in the waiting area where a window behind her looked in to the room where most the Enzio’s medical crew were
=/\=Representative," Ghes nodded. =/\=Has any progress been made with Tiana. What are her symptoms?=/\=
=/\=At the moment she’s stable. They’re monitoring her closely.=/\= It wasn’t really an answer and Elliane knew it, but it was all she had.
=/\=The last we observed, she was exhibiting signs of what we might call psychosis, and/or multiple personality disorder. It seemed previous hosts of Cet wanted dominance in her mind.=/\=
=/\=Sadly in joined Trill that can be a symptom of many things of varying degrees of seriousness. It can be a symptom of physical or mental trauma to the host or to the symbiont, or a sign that the bond is failing. It can also indicate any number of other conditions, it means the host and symbiont are out of balance with each other. When the symptoms have lasted as long as Tiana’s have. It’s usually something serious. People are combing the medical archives to find something. I promise I will contact you as soon as there is any news.=/\=

Before beaming to the surface:=/\= ...When the symptoms have lasted as long as Tiana’s have. It’s usually something serious. People are combing the medical archives to find something. I promise I will contact you as soon as there is any news.=/\=Ghes nodded, "Thank you, Representative. We have some information that may assist you... downloading now," he nodded to the stand-in tactical officer behind him, the officer covering Hood's duties while the Security Chief was out of action in the secondary sickbay - somewhat confusingly located in the primary hull section - having the man transfer the data to the Symbiosis Commission's database and Ryat's console. He made a note to visit the secondary sickbay as soon as possible. "The data contains information on the personalities that manifested themselves in Commander Cet during her time in our sickbay. Our CMO identified at least five distinct personalities rising to the surface; it was difficult to distinguish which were individual previous hosts and which might've been combinations of them. Perhaps the pattern of their emergence can furnish you with further clues as to the nature of her condition." Ghes acknowledged and the channel closed. <Tag Elliane/Tiana>* * * The present:Ghes walked with Saryn to the Symbiosis Commission HQ's entrance. The Trill star still shone brightly nearly directly overhead; they ascended the broad brushed-white steps to the tastefully decorated interior. Other Starfleet medical staff and patients were brought through, the medical facilities of sickbay smashed and unable to treat the wounded crewmembers further. "I don't want to overburden you," Ghes said to the Trill receptionist, "We'll have our people beamed up to our ship." He was aware they'd be risking an encounter with the Warbird again, with the shield grid being lowered for a fraction of a second. Turning aside, Ghes looked on Saryn empathically, understanding the stoic Vulcan's pain and admiring yet not comprehending how well he was keeping it hidden, or buried so far within his psyche that he didn't feel it. He let the CMO see to his son - in the same medical ward as Ghes's science officer - while switching his thoughts to the situation back in orbit. <Tag Tiana (I know, slightly vague tag though hopefully you can pick up ideas from Tiana's ongoing treatment, with Ryat, melding with Savin etc? (who is on LOA btw))>* * * Later on the Enzio:Ghes entered the secondary sickbay - the place lit dimly with emergency lighting: punctuated by scarlet reflecting off airborne particles, dust-sized and of low enough density to be suspended in the air, released from ruptured consoles during the recent IRW Khrzan attack, and seeming in not much better a state than the main sickbay beached on the vibrant almost emerald green of the sward outside the Symbiosis Commission's HQ - quickly locating his security chief on one of the better attended biobeds. He froze in concern before approaching; he didn't know whether it was well-attended because the biobed was one of the better equipped and they were making it a priority to treat the Chief of Security, or if the Chief's situation was desperate and the medical staff busying themselves around him were necessary to keep him alive. He couldn't lose another one of his staff; they were in danger of dropping off all around him... Tiana and Savin, Lieutenant Hood. "How is he?" he asked. A young woman in civilian clothing with a child stepped aside, "Ah, Mrs Hood?" Ghes asked somewhat awkwardly. The assistant CMO rose from a mass of doctors' and nurses' bodies, vials and hyposprays, "He'll survive, sir... He was propelled into a bulkhead; suffered ligament damage and bruised ribs. We're looking to stem minor internal bleeding." The doctor stood, without further ceremony pressing a hypospray to Hood's neck; the CTSO came to groggy consciousness. "Lieutenant. You did well... Sickbay was separated; Tiana and Savin are now in the care of the Symbiosis Commission. Unfortunately the Romulan threat persists. If you feel capable..." Ghes held up a hand to silence the assistant CMO's impending objections, "I'd be grateful if you could join me on the bridge." He shared an appreciative nod with the CTSO, then the alarms started blaring. "Security alert. Security alert. Intruder detected. Intruder detected." Ghes tapped his commbadge requesting a report from the bridge. "Deck 9..." the duty tactical officer replied, "Moving aft. I would say he or she is heading for the shuttlebay... The biosign's being masked; can't understand it, possibly our escaped prisoner if he had the technological means to conceal his weaponry when boarding the Enzio at mission outset." "Telmak." Ghes gritted his teeth, signalling to Hood despite the medical staff's protests, "Lieutenant. You think you can organise three squads, cut off access to the shuttlebay? Lead one of them, if you feel up to it. If not, I'll lead in your stead." He grinned, though his promise wasn't without a measure of trepidation. <Tag Allan>"You know, when all this is over, we're all due a long communal break on the holodeck." He said as he led a security team through the lower decks of the secondary hull section. He knew he was relying on the cure being found for Tiana, and Savin, for that utopian eventuality to come to pass. <Tag All> - Let's get a post or 2 in before we cross over into Summer and boost our posting stats for this month

"I appreciate everything that can be done for my son, madam representative," Saryn answered politely as he walked with the Trill woman. "I have done all I can for Commander Cet and I will continue to offer my services in her care. As long as she has been on the Enzio, I have been her primary caretaker, though I will freely admit that due to my...unique circumstances,.. I know extremely little about Trill and their symbionts and I would welcome any further education on the matter that can be provided to me."
>> Ryat
He thought for a moment. "How dangerous is her condition? Is there any hope of recovery at all? And what of her symbiont? Can they survive without each other? As far as I am aware, there were no other suitable hosts on the Enzio." Then he seemed to reconsider their location. "But there are here, I suppose. Still, I would recommend we do as much as we can to have them both recover and stay together. As far as Savin is concerned, if Tiana can spend some time with him during lucid periods that would be most welcome, as they seem to be enjoying each other's company. She was there when Savin was attacked, and she may have further information on the event."
Again, Saryn paused. "IF you need further information or assistance from me, please do contact me."
>> Ryat
He turned and now had attentio nfor Gheskori who was also trying to tell him something. He listened patiently at first though visibly seemed more agitated as he learned of the news. "What are we going to do to find him?" he asked nervously, "my son's life depends on him providing this cure. We must find him, or find a way onto this cloaked vessel. I an confident that he spoke the truth, and the cure is on board that vessel..."

Savin had been hooked up to all kinds of equipment to keep him stable. Monitors showed that his body and his internal organs were deteriorating, but his mind was still functional. His brainwave patterns showed activity though one couldn't be certain if somehow he was reaching out, or whether he was dreaming. He was laying on his back, his eyes closed and his face having no expression at all. His arms were lying over the covers of the bed, though he was covered in a blanket up to his chest. His chest rise and fell with every breath the respirator mask provided and the sensors at his temples blinked steadily as the monitored his vitals.
As it was, Savin was not dreaming, in fact he was very aware of the people around him through his extra sensory perception. But there was one mind he was acutely aware of, one his own had recently joined with. Tiana? The call of the Trill woman's name was subtle, but there for her to pick up on. Tiana? I can sense you, I can sense your mind, your thoughts...can you respond? The link was definitely there, almost a residual result of their latest connection.

Gheskori left the search for Telmak to Lieutenant Hood and headed back to the bridge. His assistant operations officer had information on the possible location of the Romulan Warbird; scans had been ongoing and tachyon detection had proven fruitless, however an odd particle interaction along the magnetic field lines near Trill's north pole revealed the likely presence of a massive exotic particle-emitting object.
It was a novel place to hide their ship, however Ghes supposed they weren't counting on the Enzio's sensor suite that could pick apart a ship from a place such as that, where the field lines were bunched in close.
"Definitely of Scimitar mass, sir," the Ops officer reported.
Ghes acknowledged, taking the command chair, "Then if Dr Saryn's right, that's where we need to go. How to get through their shields though?" None of the bridge crew replied, because the answer was simple: they'd have to communicate with the Warbird again, somehow convince them to lower their shields.
"Sir, actually, the magnetic field lines could be causing some interference in the Khrzan's shield grid, causing it to flicker. It would be tenfold susceptible while cloaked," an officer said, "We could beam through with the right timing, and with an analysis of the expected pattern of shield fluctuations from interaction with field lines. Send a few test objects against it first, see if our predictions are correct; before beaming living people against a shield wall."
"Contact Saryn on the surface." Ghes wondered how far the CMO was in his talks with Elliane Ryat. Time was ticking for a cure for both of them: while Tiana's condition remained stable - he understood - it would only be so long before the symbiont's condition began to deteriorate; with Savin, it was believed he could destabilise at any time.
"Doctor. We have located the Warbird." Ghes appeared to weigh something up in his mind, the bridge crew around him waiting in nervous anticipation. Of course, the Warbird could begin firing at any moment - a second fight between the two ships definitely a possibility. "The Romulan Commander has told me there is no cure aboard his vessel. Even if he is lying, I can't risk the safety of an away team on that assumption. For the time being, another way to find a cure will have to be found. How are your patients, and your consultations with the Representative?"

Further security alerts sounded in the background: fresh reminders that Telmak was still loose on the ship somewhere below. Hood's teams, Ghes understood it, were pressing through the engineering section where the Romulan had been last detected. If they could find him, they could determine if he'd been being entirely truthful about the cure for Savin's necrotic cancer being on the IRW Khrzan...
The Romulan hid in the recess of the maintenance junction, an arm holding the Jeffries' Tube hatch open so he could make a rapid escape if necessary. They were beating down the corridor towards him. He receded into the shadows, panic overtaking him but a certain deathly guile reaching over him concurrently. He aimed the phaser he'd stolen from the weapons locker and stunned the lead security guard.
"Never alive!" he said shakily. "Give me my books!" Another phaser blast shot out into the corridor, sending the security guards scrambling for cover, but Telmak's aim was wild, uncontrolled. "Books! Now! Or no deal!" He'd never wanted to get caught up in this, not on either side.

"Let's find what they want here..." Ghes said, finally losing patience. "Hail the Khrzan, all directions so as not to give away that we've found them." After repeated hails the Warbird finally responded; Ghes was sure their delay was intentional, to keep him waiting. No matter; he thought he might be able to offer somebody in exchange. "Admiral Sotok...?" he asked, the Romulan on screen nodding slowly, sarcastically. "What is your true business on Trill?"
The Romulan Admiral smiled, issuing one word then closing the channel. "Aaah, get them back," Ghes said, collapsing back into the command chair.
"Sir, the Warbird is decloaking... Correction, a Warbird, no two Warbirds are decloaking, right in front of us!"
Three minutes later... midst of the firefight...
"Two Valdore types... The Scimitar Khrzan is still cloaked, at the Trill north pole."
"I'm not separating us again," Ghes murmured with gritted teeth. It was more to himself than any of the bridge crew.
"If you won't I will!" Telmak tore out into the corridor in the engineering section, phaser blazing, before running in the other direction. If he could get back into the saucer section, he could find Gheskori's quarters and get his intel padd back, and his hardbacks.
