Of course, Tedak had no objections. He knew Vyaln, had served with her before if one could've called it that. He'd been an outsider on the S'Harien and only interacted with a few. Even fewer, he'd been able to call his friends or felt he could trust them. Vyaln had been different. Watching Tavik sport binoculars, Tedak opened his own tricorder. He'd been issued the small device on his own request, with the promise to return it when he got back to the Enzio. He frowned, drawing his brows into a near solid 'V' as he peered at the small screen. He walked a few paces left, then a few paces back to the right, scanning in each direction.
"Miss Cet?" he called, drawing the science chief's attention, then pointed at his tricorder. "Are you picking up anything?"
(Tiana)
The Romulan diplomat shook his head. "I'm not getting much of anything, it's like everything is garbled. i think we may be dealing with a dampening field of some kind, would you concur?"
(Tiana)
Walking over to Tavik, he held out his hand. "May I use your binoculars for a moment, Major Tavik? I promise you'll get them back shortly."
(Tavik)
Bowing slightly in gratitude as he accepted the precious piece of equipment, Tedak held it before his eyes and peered around, then pointed. "I believe we need to head into that direction," he stated calmly, even though he was somewhat excited. He wondered what they would be walking into, when they met with the Romulan commander. And he hoped, that they could come to some kind of agreement regarding the inhabitants of both nations. Both Federation, and the Romulan Empire. The only problem was, how to keep the Klingons out of their way?"

Baird had only been awake for literally ten minutes before the call came down the line the everyone was to report to stations. As one of the relief tactical officers, his job was to man the engineering console on the bridge. Cup of orange juice in hand he made his way to the bridge, depositing the cup in the dispenser on deck five just before he entered the turbo lift. The trip to the bridge was its usual short self and he found himself in the thick of everything. The feel on the bridge was tense for all but their CO, who was his usual chipper self. Denobulans always had a unique way of seeing the positive in all situations, no matter how dire. He'd have to see if he could pick up that character trait. Manning the engineering console, Baird moved about the console to get his bearings on the situation.
He determined that the Enzio had arrived at its expected destination during his slumber. They were also toe to toe with a Romulan battleship. He figured that to be a plus for his day since it would mean he'd likely have something "fun" to do. Continuing to assist in the scanning effort, he heard the Admiral call an away team together. His ears perked up just a bit in hopes that he'd get to be on it, but it was given to the senior officers. They were of course the best fit for all situations, but every once in a while, it'd be nice for the lower guys to get their shot. This obviously wasn't one of the times. As the away team left, he returned to the console's display and looked over the Romulan ship.

Curious, Ghes thought; if they were to work together this was an interesting was to go about it. He stared defiantly at the starfield on the viewscreen; seconds ago it had displayed a view of the Romulan warbird's bridge. Their second in command had closed the channel after issuing the tersest of all possible responses: Go away.
He would've feared for his team on the surface given such a reply, if he didn't know the Romulan Commander was down there alone. Scans had confirmed it - only one Romulan lifesign detected. Nevertheless, things were decidedly tense in orbit, the Enzio and the warbird tiptoeing around each other, the warbird's crew either aggressive or distrusting. Ghes had yet to decide.
He tapped a button on his chair's arm panel, "Away team, this is Gheskori. Commander, please report your status. Have you succeeded in making contact with the Romulan CO?"
<Tag Away Team - Tiana, Daya, Tedak, Aeryn>
He puzzled over their situation, asked how long it was 'til the planet, the whole star system, drifted across the border into Romulan space (at this part of the neutral zone it was only half a light year across, it being close to the Klingon border as well). "43 minutes, sir," the helmsman reported. He raised an eyebrow. What if Commander Vyaln was holding off on meeting with the away team, waiting 'til the planet crossed into Romulan space where the planet would suddenly be seized by a small fleet of warbirds? Nothing was detected on long-range sensors; of course that didn't necessarily mean no ships were present the other side of the border - given the near-impenetrable cloaking devices Romulan vessels used - but at least it ruled out the presenceof listening posts in this area, sensor arrays and other stationary Romulan-operated installations.
He tried hailing the Romulan ship again, once more being met with no response. He was about to severely lose his patience and undermine his reputation as being calm and positive in the face of catastrophe - at this critical juncture, with the planet about to come under effective Romulan dominion, and a Klingon ship (intent on war or harvesting of natural resources) en route less than three hours away from its point of 'rendezvous' with the planet. He stood and walked to the upper deck, standing between the tactical and engineering stations.
"Tahana. Baird. I want you to work together to carry out a comprehensive scan of that warbird; every detail, every seemingly empty cargo bay I want combed by passive scanners. Any more invasive and they may ask questions..." It wouldn't be a bad way to get them to talk actually, Ghes thought. "Also look again on long-range sensors for Romulan vessels, anything out of the ordinary which may give some indication as to a possible ulterior motive regarding this planet." He nodded to them and stepped past, "And Baird, ask the Chief Engineer to confirm that we have maximum warp available; I'd be much more comfortable knowing we could escape a fleet of warbirds should it come to it."
<Tag Kauri, Aeryn (Baird)>
He had only to bide his time, wait for his away team to make contact with the Federation elements of the colony, while Vyaln hopefully stuck to helping her own citizens, and didn't try to call in reinforcements...

Tiana was quite quiet as the conversation at the meal grew around her. She could feel a dull ache deep in her guts. She knew it was purely psycological, the result of feeling lonely, but that did not take the pain away. She had no right to expect Savin here, he wasn't senior staff and he really should be resting. She resigned herself to letting the evening wash over her and tried to relax. She jerked abruptly when someone touched her arm. She turned her head breaking in to a smile as she did so. Her skin had recognised the touch before her brain had caught up. " Tiana," he said. "Are you well?" Tiana relaxed slightly, suddenly aware that she had a slightly silly grin on her face. ”better now you're here.” Her stomach unknotted somewhat. "It is good to see you Savin". She knew his skin was a touch too pale and there was something in his bearing that she read as 'tired' not that she could have put her finger on exactly what was giving her that and not that she would mention it. Maybe that was selfish but she felt so much better now. She hoped he felt better as well. OOC: sorry, thought I had replied to this. *******************************
OOC: Moving on.... Tiana had been in the lab overseeing the set up of a variably graviity, variable pressure fluidic chamber when she got the call to report to the transporter room for an away mission. She accepted the mission without complete details but that was hardly unusual. All the necessary data downloaded itself to her PADD as she gave orders for Lt Corwyn to take over for the chamber fill. She read from the PADD as she walked to the transporter room, someone watching her would have expected her to walk in to someone but she had been doing this since school and managed to maintain enough pereiferal awareness to avoid the rest of the crew. She reached the transporter room aware that they were about to go planetside to see whether a Romulan colony had been attacked by Klingons - and weren't there so many ways that could end badly... She did not recognise the woman in marine green and looked a question at her. "Major Aeryn Tavik. I just got here."Tiana nodded vaguely remembering seeing something on the last ship report about a new SMO joining the crew. "Welcome aboard Major, I'm Tiana Galwyn, CScO." She smiled "As you aren't being allowed to settle in gently and we may be about to beam into a delicate situation do you have any suggestions from a tactical standpoint?" "Since we're going in full recon mode, I recommend we beam down to this locale." She indicated a small rock formation that appeared to be reasonably covered. Tiana nodded her agreement with the suggestion and the team beamed down Tiana sucked in a breath of the dry air and pulled her tricorder, time to start the survey. "How the hell can they grow crops on a planet like this?" Major Tavik asked. "Most likely underground, hydroponics, genetic manipulation or some combination of the three." Tiana said without looking up from her tricorder screen. "Actually, the atmosphere is pretty favourable to plant growth apart from the lack of water it might not even be that complicated. With a good irrigation system, probably set under ground to avoid excessive evaporation, and careful choice of plant you'd be good to go." "What are your orders, Commander?" she asked Cet. "We will if our initial sweep and then head towards the settlement." There was no telling what kind of reception they,d receive but that was where the damage was so that was where they had to go. She was about to continue when Ambassador Tedek voice cut in to her train of thought. "Miss Cet?" he called, drawing the science chief's attention, then pointed at his tricorder. "Are you picking up anything?" Tiana blinked, her survey of the locale had been going fine, then she glanced at Tedek's tricorder. "I was doing a soil and atmospheric analysis so we had a baseline that's working fine." She looked again, focussing on the energy background this time. "I assume you were looking at communication signals, did you get anything?" The Romulan diplomat shook his head. "I'm not getting much of anything, it's like everything is garbled. i think we may be dealing with a dampening field of some kind, would you concur?"
Tiana nodded slowly carefully checking her readings against Tedek's as she did so. "I concur. I think it's a small scale field which it been amplified but the delta-silica content in these rocks. Although whether that is by accident or design I don't know." She watched as Tedek borrowed a set of binoculars looked around and then pointed. "I believe we should go that way." Tiana looked, as far as could tell, that wasn't the most direct route to the settlement. "What's your reasoning Ambassdor?" Tag Tedek / rest of away team

Ghes had received the report from the team that they were on the way to the settlement. He involuntarily nodded as Tiana finished her report, "Keep heading towards the settlement, Commander. We'll monitor from up here and will let you know if our sensors can penetrate to locate the Romulan lifesign of Commander Vyaln."
Distinguishing it from the other Romulan settlers would be difficult, he knew, it was part of the concern he had for his team down there and the suspicion he had of the Romulans' intentions... They could well send their Commander down to hide amongst the populace, Galwyn's team not being able to discern which person on the surface was the opposing vessel's CO.
The rock deposits of delta-silica were found to have been responsible for - or perhaps an amplifier of - a jamming field in the vicinity of the settlement. The Denobulan supposed it stood to reason that the Federation-Romulan colonists - the combination being unusual enough in itself - wouldn't want to be discovered and could be transmitting their own signal, though he wouldn't like to conclude with such speculations at this stage.
He stood at the assistant science officer's console, looking at topographical maps of dense regions of the silicate deposits and the radius of the jamming field they were inadvertently or otherwise setting up; perhaps the colonists had chosen this planet, or this region in particular for their settlement, knowing its natural usefulness as a cloak from foreign invaders of any sort of presence.
"Have Dr Saryn brought up here," he called to a junior officer, returning to the command chair. "He may well know something of Romulan physiology that Tedak despite being Romulan may not be able to tell us... If we can learn something extracurricular to the Academy's Medical programme from Saryn we might be able to learn to tell Commander Vyaln apart from the Romulan colonists, if she doesn't reveal herself."

"Sir, reading a tachyon flux, decaying anti-protons..." Ops reported.
Ghes was on his feet, "A cloaked ship?" he snapped.
"Yes, sir. Putting it on the main viewer." Bustling of limbs and raised voices around the bridge also let it be known to him that the Romulan ship was attempting contact, informing them of the same discovery of a decloaking vessel in orbit of the planet.
Ghes watched the viewscreen flick from a view of the rotating planet to the distortion of the cloaking device being disengaged; once faded, a Klingon Vor'cha cruiser hung there, eclipsing the backdrop of stars. What were they doing? Klingon ships almost always asked permission to cross Federation territory, and given the position of the planet close to the mutual three borders and the unstable situation on the surface, this was an obvious violation; they could only have hostile purposes. "Scan them!" he ordered.
Beepings of consoles and the Ops officer reported again, "Raised shields; weapons on stand-by... they're hailing, and the Romulan ship... is hailing," he said haltingly. Ghes sighed, sitting back in the command chair, saying that they'd best deal with them one at a time.
"Executive Officer of Romulan vessel, this is Admiral Gheskori, we read you."
"Arm your weapons, Admiral. The Klingons are here to seize the planet..." There was a long silence on the other end - Ghes trying to read in the voice the true intent, if anything was concealed, "Did you not hear me, Starfleet Admiral? Have you lost sight of your chronometer? This planet is now three minutes from crossing the border into our territory... The Klingons have arrived right on time to annex the world for their Empire. We have the right to defend ourselves without your agreement."
"There are Federation colonists on that world, too, Subcommander," Ghes replied, then had Vyaln's vessel (the Romulan Commander on the surface; what would she be making of all this?) put on hold, calling up the ominously silent - though nevertheless hopelessly outmatched tactically - Klingon ship, "Klingon vessel, this is Admiral Gheskori of the Federation starship Enzio. You have arrived, unexpectedly and I might say somewhat rudely, at a time of critical instability in this star system. Doubtless you'll know that this planet and its star is about to enter Romulan space, and you, and us, along with it. State your -"
"Enough of the prattle!" A harsh voice cackled on the other end, soon silenced by a calmer one.
"Forgive my first officer, Admiral. I am Klingon Commander Netqla. We are here to locate our missing science ship, no more. We're well aware of the situation on the planet and indeed of its imminent passage into Romulan space. Our science vessel was en route here with the tacit agreement of the Star Empire's Senate to enter orbit and begin scans on the delta-silica deposits in the planet's crust. For the last 30 hours, we've had no contact with our science ship."
Before Ghes could respond the Klingon first officer got in another attack, "I suspect the cowardly targs you have as company in that sickly green vessel of theirs - " Clearly he meant the Romulan Warbird - "Will have had something to do with it."
"Send our teams to the surface. Outskirts of the settlement..." Ghes heard from the Klingon CO as the transmission was broken off. He was on the comm to the away team seconds later to warn them of the Klingons' impending presence near the settlement, meanwhile ordering Kauri Tahana to target the Klingon vessel.

Moving to the settlement center, Krieala knew all too well it would be a while before the Federation Officers got there, she had no doubt they were skulking somewehere in the outskirts running pointless tests on every insignificant molecule they could get there hands on, looking for a justification for their prejudice.
Dealing with them would be so much more pleasant if they just admitted it rather than dribble platitudes all the while engaging in the duplicitous activities they accused everyone else of.
Suddenly a small device on her wrist began to beep, reaching for it she tapped it twice and said. “Report.”
“Sub-Commander, the Starfleet vessel has intensified scans, and their Commander has offered assistance in repairs in the form of an Engineering team.”
Taking a deep breath Kreiala thought for a moment. “Predictable, allow them to continue their scans, but do not allow them to beam over, Vyaln out.”
*** Town Center***
It didn't take long at all for a crowd to gather inside the rather large auditorium, both Romulans and Humans made up the crowd and standing in front of them all, Kreiala Vyaln holding up a gloved hand to silence the muttering and whispers.
“As you have already been informed, the Romulan Navy has reason to suspect this planet is a target of Klingon aggression.” She took a deep breath. “As this planet will in minutes be Romulan space and as the highest ranking member of the Star Empire, I am taking personnel charge of this planets defence.”
She looked around the crowd slowly. “This planet will not fall to any aggressor, you have all worked too hard, given too much for us simply allow it to be taken away.” She pointed into the crowd. “My ship and crew will defend everyone of this world, your place of origin is of no importance neither is species.”
Taking another deep breath she raised her head slightly. “Any among you who wish to help defend your homes are welcome too, and we shall stand shoulder to shoulder against this threat and send the Klingons home with the message burnt into their memories.”
She shouted now. “This place will never fall.”
Pausing for a moment she saw Starfleet Uniforms in the very back, now knowing how long they'd been there she simply motioned to them and added. “The Federation has already made their preference to evacuate the Humans among you, if any Romulan wishes to join those who take them up on their offer, may do so.”

On arrival in town.
The buildings said that they had reached The town although there wasn't any obvious sign of the population. Her tricorder informed her that there was a large gathering of lifesigns in one of the buildings walking briskly but allowing the people who were trained in a different sort of observation to go ahead Tiana entered the building. Given the situation it was sensible that there would be some sort of gathering to circulate information in an efficient manner, but, she hadn't expected to find a Romulan woman holding the stage. The away team silently joined the crowd, no one paid them any attention, all eyes were on the woman at the front of the room.
“As you have already been informed, the Romulan Navy has reason to suspect this planet is a target of Klingon aggression.” She took a deep breath. “As this planet will in minutes be Romulan space and as the highest ranking member of the Star Empire, I am taking personnel charge of this planets defence.”

Taking another deep breath she raised her head slightly. “Any among you who wish to help defend your homes are welcome too, and we shall stand shoulder to shoulder against this threat and send the Klingons home with the message burnt into their memories.”
She shouted now. “This place will never fall.” Tiana had to admit that the woman was a very passionate speaker. She seemed to have most of the assembly on side, at least as far as Tiana could make out. Whether the people would choose to stay and become citizens of the Star Empire she wasn't sure but they were definitely thinking about it.
The Romulan woman's seemed to focus on The away team for a moment. “The Federation has already made their preference to evacuate the Humans among you, if any Romulan wishes to join those who take them up on their offer, may do so.” Heads turned in their direction and Tiana stood calmly, she wasn't really the type to make public speeches but perhaps on this occasion it was the right thing to do. She took a step forward.
"I am Commander First Class Tiana Galwyn of the USS Enzio, if you wish to leave this planet we will take you. If you do not wish to leave then we will wish you well in your new life. That is a decision neither I nor the Commander can make for you."
Conversations started up as soon as Tiana went silent, clearly there was some debate to come.
She locked eyes with the Romulan woman and cocked her head towards the door at the back of the room. Hopefully the other woman would catch the hint, she didn't want to draw further attention to the situation before they had chance to discuss things properly.

"Our Commander has made contact with your away team, Starfleet Admiral, at a public gathering," the Warbird's first officer informed him, "If I were you I wouldn't linger too long if they all elect to stay; the Romulan Navy is unaccustomed to having trespassers in its space no matter what their best intentions."
"Acknowledged," Gheskori shook his head as the channel with the Warbird was closed. He hoped that Tiana, Tedak and the others would emphasise only that they were trying to persuade Federation citizens to leave the world, not the Romulan citizens... Having Romulan nationals in the Federation would complicate matters more than it would solve them: while they'd be useful for gleaning information, perhaps, on the current state of Romulan politics amongst other things, they would also be a diplomatic nightmare for the DCS to disperse
The Romulans, while likely claiming to wish to protect all the colonists now that the planet was on the verge of crossing into their space - his head turned to the chronometer - ... now! he noted, could not always be taken for their word, and plunging the colony into the depths of their territory left Ghes concerned for the well-being of the human colonists and those of other Federation member species.
They sped across the border out of the razor-thin - at this point - neutral zone into Romulan territory, the system and all its contents at a gargantuan velocity relative to the galactic centre; their apparent speed was of course only that which they maintained in orbit of the desert of Tethys Epsilon along with the Warbird and the unwelcome guest of the Klingon warship and, somewhere perhaps, the Klingon science ship.
"What's the status of Net'qla's gang?" he requested.
A few beeps later, "The Klingon away team are closing on the settlement, now three kilometres away. Transporter interference may have blocked them beaming right into the middle of the colony," the Ops officer anticipated his next question.
"What if the settlement isn't there intention? They said they're searching for the science ship; what if they're telling the truth at least in this regard?" Ghes asked, the bridge staff non-committal. "It's a probable fact that they have designs on the colony world, for once we've left and the Romulans have taken over protection of the planet, but Net'qla, I've thought, is no fool. He wouldn't blatantly go against his stated purpose when he's made that statement to an allied faction."
Still, it wouldn't hurt to reinforce the point. He had a channel opened to the Klingon warship, "Commander. We read your away team closing on the human-Romulan settlement. I thought you were here to search for your missing science ship. Need I remind you that this planet is under the joint protection of your allies, the Federation, and from the Romulans. Covertly surveying it for material resources as a prelude to invasion would be a gross violation of interstellar law and the peace treaty between our two peoples. I'd also warn against such an action now we are on the Romulan side of the border; Federation citizens in Romulan space are our concern as much as Romulan citizens in our space are theirs."
"Commander Daya on the away team reports sighting made of the Klingons, approximately 2.5 kilometres distant," Ops informed him.
"They're collecting information on the delta-silica compounds, Admiral," Klingon Commander Net'qla barked, "Doing what our science ship had intended to do before it vanished en route."
"Mysteriously vanished..." the guttural laugh came from Net'qla's first officer.
Ghes sighed, "Silence this petaQ of yours, Commander." Both Klingons took offence, the Commander stiffening while the first officer lunged for the viewscreen as if he thought he could jump through. Ghes laughed inside, but nevertheless instinctively jumped back from the sight of the Klingon charging towards him becoming approximately twice the height of the tallest officer on the Enzio's bridge.
"My team has only peaceful intentions, Admiral," Net'qla restored order.

“Transport down the weapons and security teams.” She said into her communicator before walking down the aisle to follow the Starfleet Officer through a door.
As she walked up to the Trill she held out a padd. “Our sensor and computer records of our encounter with the Klingon vessels.” She took a deep breath and slightly raised her brow. “I am sure Commander Cet, that your Admiral Gheskori is eager to try poke holes in it.” Taking a deep breath.
“The Klingons are here for a reason and I do not yet know why, at first I suspected it was simply a way to bring our peoples into contention, but there are far simpler and less risky ways to do that.” She paused for a moment. “There is a larger prize for them to win if they risk Federation citizens getting hurt.”

Frowning slightly she took a slight breath. “Would you be so kind as to open a channel to your ship, I need to speak to Gheskori.”

“Admiral this is Vyaln, it is my intention to find out why the Klingons are here, no doubt they have already spun you a tale but the pieces don't fit.” She took a slight breath. “I know for a fact Starfleet has an intelligence operative down here to keep an eye on the Empire, just as you are no doubt aware we have a Tal'Shair agent spying on the Federation.”
She cleared her throat. “I suggest we both co-operate it is likely if we combine our intelligence we may be able to work what this planet holds of interest for the Klingons.”

He held a brief conference with Dr Saryn, Tahana, Baird and the other deputy chiefs, enquiring into any intelligence that may have been gathered, anything gleaned from the state of things on the colony world in recent times: who might perhaps be in charge, what their social and political - if any existed - hierarchy and set-up was. The 'official' information was scant, the planet and the surrounding region - as was reiterated to Ghes by one of the staff - had not been charted for decades.
At that moment a comm came from the planet's surface. Ghes and the others returned to the bridge, the Admiral tugging down on his jacket in an unintentional borrowing of a famous Starfleet Captain's trademark manoeuvre before he sat in the command chair. "Open a channel," he ordered.
Ghes was ready to refute anything the Romulan Commander claimed about the Federation's presence here; intelligence had been something that'd occurred to him, but her way of bringing up the subject had regardless taken him off guard. His silence over the comm was enough to let Vyaln know that such an agent was indeed present.
“I suggest we both co-operate it is likely if we combine our intelligence we may be able to work what this planet holds of interest for the Klingons.” "Acknowledged. It doesn't make sense that the Klingons would only be after delta silica deposits... A planet on the border with your space would make it quite a convenient target if they were to make such a claim."
He closed the channel then requested that a secure channel be opened in his ready room, greeting the security officer who stood at attention next to his desk. Now, this was what the 'unofficial' intelligence had gathered from the colony... He tapped the display in his desk - audio only - and spoke to Vyaln on the surface, "There is a human colonist named Mulus Tetri that our agent, who is with me now, made contact with last month, a prominent individual in the colony some 10 years ago. The agent's confirmed that Tetri's voice was added to the public gathering. Tetri's advocating the human colonists leave the world and seek asylum with the Star Empire; he has three armed guards about him at all times, disguised as regular colonists."
The security officer added his voice, "It's suspected that he is a former member of the Maquis, whose opposition to the Cardassians made their goals the same as the Klingons' in the prelude to the Dominion War... There are indications he wants to build for an insurrection on New Romulus."
"So then he is in alliance with the Klingons? For what reason except the one-time common link with the Cardassians?" Ghes asked.
"He may have a debt to pay the Klingon Empire," the agent/security officer suggested.
<Tag Vyaln>
The channel closed. Ghes stood and walked around the desk, "Join them, as an Ensign on a security team," he told the agent, "Make yourself appear as another member of the crew. Don't let anyone know." A great many new crew were transferred to the Enzio at the start of this mission; it would be unlikely that the agent's claim as one of those new crewmembers would be questioned, if he even had to make the claim.

The summons to head to the bridge came as no surprise to Saryn. Somehow, he already knew what the admiral wanted and his own studies - even prior conversations with the Romulan diplomat, had him call up the information he knew the admiral desired. Loading them onto a PADD, he quickly hurried out of sickbay and headed up to the bridge. "YOu wanted to see me admiral?" the Vulcan queried, somewhat innocently as he approached the command center. Despite being civilian, somehow security never barred his way. Sometimes, Saryn wondered why because he knew Starfleet's policy about allowing civilians onto the bridge.
Listening to Gheskori's suggestion, Saryn nodded. "I already suspected you wanted this information," he said, "the database has suggestions on how to tell Vulcans and Romulans apart, however there is this genetic marker the transporters could possibly use. You see, Vulcan and Romulan blood types only vary in the one factor..." He handed the PADD over. "That, and Miss Vyaln is a healthy Romulan who falls in a certain age group. We can use that too.."
Back on the planet Tedak approached the Romulan commander. "Commander Vyaln, we meet again," he said as he came to a halt next to her. "Though we do not see eye to eye most of the time, you have to believe that I'm here to find a solution that best interests the colonists. All of them, Human and Romulan. They live in harmony here and it's our duty to protect them. And we must repel the Klingons, together...for if they gain a foothold here, they will irradicate all. Without mercy."

Ghes resumed the command chair, the orders given to the intel agent to take his place among the security team being beamed to the surface. He'd notified the away team that he was beaming down an extra team to help protect them from the Klingons' attack - if that's what they truly intended. He commed the transporter room, "Lieutenant. Is your team ready to go? And is medic Savin with you?"
After a brief delay, "Yes, sir, he's just arrived. We're ready."
"Energise." The six security officers (one of them the agent) and Savin would be set down a kilometre outside the colony's main settlement, on the other side of it to the side from which the Klingons were advancing - this was due to the delta silica deposits in the region and their dampening effect on transporters. From there they had instructions to make their way into the town and find the central assembly area where the public gathering had just taken place, and reinforce the away team.
From what Ghes had heard - from records and from his intel agent who'd been posted to the surface for nearly a year - the colonists had some defensive weaponry, though most of it was obsolete; phase grenades dating from the 22nd century and even laser rifles; some however had ultraviolet flashbang grenades which would prove useful for disorienting the Klingons in their advance.
That was if the Klingons really did intend to attack the colony, take its settlers away, execute them, whatever, take the planet for themselves here in Romulan space - and not take to their stated purpose of analysing the delta silica deposits themselves. If they were studying those deposits, the Denobulan suddenly thought, they could be finding a way of nullifying their natural ability to nullify transporters in areas where there was a high concentration of them, in which case their aggressions could well be hostile anyway.
Hail the Klingon vessel he told Kauri. She looked up from the tactical console and nodded, Ghes turning round to face the viewscreen and the view of the Klingon ship's bridge, "Commander Netqla," he said, "We still read your away team as closing on the settlement. You will explain your actions. It's already been made clear to you that attacking the colony regardless of which side of the border - Federation or Romulan - the planet is on will be a violation of several treaties the list of which I have not the patience to detail to you in full."
"Don't be deceived, Admiral," Klingon Netqla responded, "Surely your tactical Starfleet mind can work out that a direct course for the colony doesn't necessarily mean we intend to attack. I implore you, use your better judgement. I urge you to be patient in this matter." The Klingon's voice was unnervingly calm and reasoned.
The security team under Lieutenant Brial started the trek towards the colony settlement, its outskirts only 900 metres distant now. They were all brandishing phaser rifles, apart from their one civilian. "Medic," Brial addressed Savin, "Are you able to keep up."
The intel agent disguised as a security ensign stepped up, "I can carry him if his strength is failing." Lieutenant Brial nodded briefly in response. The disguised intel agent looked at the young vulcan.

As the Ambassador spoke to her she sighed slightly. “Mister Ambassador we agree more often than you might imagine, my dislike of you is not born from your opinions, however in this matter our goals align, this colony will be free of Klingons or I shall join them in death.”
She took a slight breath. “Because after the Denobulan contacts me again, I am going to find out just how badly the Klingons want to be here.”
as if on cue Gheskori contacted her again and relayed the information the Federation intelligence operative had discovered, it was much the same she possessed with the exception of putting a name to the individual in possible collaboration with the Klingons, no doubt information more easliy gained by a Human than a Romulan.
“We learnt much the same, we also have a report about about missing weapons nothing major, a few hand weapons, we had suspected black market but it may be possible when the Klingons attack several of the colonists may join them.”
She took a deep breath.”I shall contact you again shortly, Vyaln out.”
She looked around as she saw several of her security officers taking up defensive positions along with some colonists both Romulan and Human. She looked at Tedak and Cet and added. “Well now time to see if the Klingons are willing to shed blood.”
Tapping the small device on her wrist she said. “This is Vyaln, open a channel to the Klingon vessel and patch the Starfleet ship in.”
After a few moments she again spoke. “This is Senior Sub Commander Kreieala Vyaln, this colony is now in Romulan space, as the higest ranking member of the Empire present I demand your people beam up off our planet, and your vessel depart out space immediately.” She paused for a moment. “Should you not comply, I will be forced to destroy your vessel,”
She closed the channel she knew her crew well enough to know they had already charged weapons and locked onto the Klingon ship and were waiting for her order.
Looking to Cet she gave a slight nod. “Commander, this Mulus Tetri will need to be questioned if he has knowledge of why this planet has been targeted we need to know.” She paused for a moment. “However he remains one your citizens so I suggest you deal with that.”

Gheskori had no patience with Netqla's continuing calm insistence that his soldiers on the surface had no hostile intent. There were 43 Klingons closing on the colony, just over 2km away now, and heading in the most direct line possible through a network of mesas that was nearby the main settlement.
He shook his head; a Klingon shouldn't be so cunning and calm, such a well-rounded diplomat, and a cold-hearted warrior at the same time; the combination was wrong and overpowerful. Hopefully, when the Klingons did reach the colony, a part of the populace didn't join the invaders as Vyaln had feared.
As soon as he'd thought it a communique from the Romulan Commander (to both the Enzio and the Klingon ship) was received. Ghes nodded to have the channel opened, “- mander Kreieala Vyaln, this colony is now in Romulan space, as the higest ranking member of the Empire present I demand your people beam up off our planet, and your vessel depart out space immediately... Should you not comply, I will be forced to destroy your vessel,”
Before Ghes could set the bridge crew into motion the message ended and an alert was sounding from the tactical console; Baird operating, "Sir, the Warbird's locked all weapons on the Klingon cruiser. Their disruptor arrays are reading at full power."
"Damn it, I was hoping she wouldn't make this move," Ghes sat immobile, grinding his teeth. "Hail the Romulan vessel and Vyaln. She can't do this to a Klingon vessel even if it's within her borders, at least not with us here."
"No response, sir. Seems she's set an ultimatum."
"There's no need for this. The colonists can defend themselves from the Klingons," Ghes said, his voice failing him slightly. He knew that it likely wasn't possible the colony could fend off the Klingons, and if they did, they would take heavy casualties, so much so that the settlement would be virtually destroyed and their remaining population would disperse of its own volition in short order.
Ghes's diplomatic nightmare had now well and truly become a psychological hell, a nervous breakdown of interstellar relations. The destruction of a Klingon ship in the presence of an allied Federation starship inside Romulan space... He bid the arbiters of galactic peace at the next Khitomer conference good luck!
He sighed with frustration, "Transmit, a message to the Warbird that they should stand down until we can reach a solution to this crisis that will minimise the potential loss of life. Repeat it, with a stern warning that any attack on the Klingon vessel carries the danger of the Klingons firing on the colony itself."
"Wait, Captain. Apologies, sir," Baird said, "But the Klingon ship is hailing. They wish to talk."
Ghes looked irritated, albeit relieved, and nodded to Baird, "Patch Commander Vyaln in."
As the channel opened a disturbance was heard on Vyaln's end of the transmission. Ops reported that a massive explosion in a sector of the main settlement had occurred, chemical in origin, likely an explosive or several explosives had been detonated. "Away team, report!" Ghes shouted.
<Tag Tiana, Kreiala, Tedak/Savin, Daya, Aeryn>
On the surface, wounded were being hauled out of half-collapsed buildings, all in the aftermath of a string of ultraviolet flashbangs that'd dazed and partially blinded those who'd happened to be in the vicinity and watching. Three colonists - likely Tetri's insurgents, the intel officer thought - were seen running from the scene, escaping down an alleyway while the moaning injured and dying were put onto stretchers and all the people ran about in a frightful panic. The away teams (Tiana and Vyaln's, and Brial and Savin's, both now joined up) were not far away from the site of the explosion.

The explosion was deafening, instinct bid her to close her eyes shielding her sight from the worst of the flash of light, the concussive force pushed her back slightly but not enough o knock her off her feet. Now the fresh air of the colony was replaced with the unmistakable stench of smoke and fire.
And the soft moans of injured were heard despite the shouting of others, her eyes opened quickly enough to catch site of a few running from the explosion site, not uncommon it was the reaction of most to flee danger, these however didn't display signs of fear, none of them glanced back and they moved too fluidly to simply be in blind panic, no these men had a destination in mind and they had it planned.
She felt a grip clasp her arm, it was too strong to one of the Federation with the exception of possibly Tedak, looking to her left she spotted one of her security team. Yanking herself free she snatched the disruptor pistol out of his other hand and yelled.
“Have our people form a perimeter around the colony, the Klingons don't get in and traitors don't get out.” She looked around for a moment and added. “Have the wounded moved to the most secure location and make sure they are protected, Human and Romulan alike, I will not let this act of cowardice succeed in tearing this colony apart.”
Then she reached out and grabbing his shoulder she pulled him close. “And scan for more explosive devices, if you let another one go off, pray you it kills you.” She pushed him back and he ran off to see her orders were carried out.
Realising the comm channel to Gheskori and the Klignons was still open she raised her wrist and cut the Klingons off. “Starfleet Admiral, there are Romulan and Human casualties down here, I have no more time for your diplomatic dancing, the Klingons are a party to this and they are using you as a shield for their aggression, If you are simply going to stand idle then I suggest you leave, because I will destroy that vessel if it doesn't leave, and am I done explaining myself to you, get helpful or get out of my way.” She closed the channel and opened up another one to her ship.
“This is Vyaln, set countdown for ten minutes if that Klingon vessel hasn't departed orbit by then destroy them, and ignore incoming communications from the Starfleet vessel do not reply, relay any messages to me personally.”
Turning now to the Starfleet officer and Tedak she said. “You people should deal with the wounded, my men will try to hold off the klingons but should they break through don't expect your uniforms to save you, a Klingon in bloodlust doesn't stop to check targets.” She took a deep breath. “I suggest of they break through you beam out with as many people as you can, because if they do me, and my men are dead and my ship has been destroyed.” With that she turned and proceeded to head to the outer perimeter of the colony, where her officers and the colonists who vowed to stand and fight prepared to make their stand.

"The Klingons are almost upon the settlement, sir. They're approaching barricades at the north-eastern edge... Detecting laser and disruptor fire. The colonists are defending along with the Romulan soldiers."
Ghes brooded in the command chair; the communication from Vyaln had riled him slightly, though he supposed he could expect nothing less of a Romulan Naval officer faced with the loss of what her Empire would deem one of their colony worlds within Romulan space. The Warbird remained orientated towards the Klingon cruiser, weapons primed. Ghes had no idea when or if they really intended to fire, though if things went badly on the surface for the colonists and the Romulans, he suspected the Klingon ship would come under attack.
The intel agent had beamed up from the surface in the immediate aftermath of the detonation. He'd informed the Admiral the rest of the away team were on the whole uninjured, with just one of the security officers having suffered lacerations that the medic Savin was attending to.
<Tag Savin>
The intel agent brought his two officers with him to the bridge. "Admiral..." he almost seethed, standing before Ghes as the Denobulan let matters draw on longer and longer.
"I will not be the instigator of another war with the Klingon Empire," Ghes snapped, "Not even in the defence of a colony shared by our people and a neutral power's, in that neutral power's space."
"The Klingons are instigating a war, Admiral - in their attack on this colony. Vyaln is right; Netqla is using you, counting on your unwillingness to break the peace so that he can carry out this illegal act. When will you take action, sir?!"
Ghes felt anger boil up inside him and he raised a few inches off his seat, "When they - !" He slumped down again, allowing himself to cool off and pondering over the situation. "Baird, beam down two more security teams and a marine contingent to the north-eastern sector of the settlement; inform Major Tavik that her marines have been deployed there. We will reinforce the colony's defences."

OOC: Apologies for the double post - it turned out to be a lot to fit in! I think I've tagged everybody.
The Klingons and the enigma of Mulus Tetri were playing him for a fool, perhaps that was true. The Klingons' capture of the colony with the trusty Federation alongside them would supply the Star Empire - in the ensuing diplomatic fallout - with ammunition to add to their argument that both the Federation and the Klingons had effectively declared war on New Romulus. Humans and Romulans were dying, at the hands of Klingon warriors and the possibly aligned Mulus Tetri and his former Maquis associates. Something had to be done.
Sighing he said, "Baird... Fire a phaser array at half-yield at the Klingon vessel." Baird, perhaps legitimately asked to hear the order again. "Do it," Ghes said, focussing on the screen.
Baird made tentative preparations and the beam shot out, catching the Klingon cruiser amidships, its shield bubble momentarily flashing. They waited, and waited. Ghes tapped impatiently at his arm rest, watching the cruiser. Minutes passed and nothing, absolutely nothing happened. "Fire again," he said tiredly, "Three quarters phaser power." The puny beam shot out and shook the Klingon vessel slightly. Perhaps the Romulans on their bridge were laughing at the spectacle.
Baird sighed in relief, "They're hailing, sir." Ghes nodded.
"Admiral! You fire on our vessel? Haven't we given adequate assurances that -"
"Cut it out, Netqla!" Ghes stood, "Commander, people are dying on the surface, on both sides, and it is all your doing. As your allies in these extenuating circumstances, I am invoking Khitomer Accord Ruling 72-epsilon paragraph 3. I am beaming over to your vessel with a security contingent and a Romulan diplomat, one Ambassador Tedak - if he can be spared from the surface massacres - immediately. Lower your shields and we will beam aboard; raise them again an instant later."
<Tag Tedak>
Netqla made his complaints and probably justifiably. Lowering of the shields for any moment may cause the Romulans to open fire; Ghes has no idea if that would happen, but if he did make it aboard safely, the Romulans would think again before firing on a Klingon cruiser that carried a Starfleet Admiral and a Romulan Ambassador.
Minutes later (having let Vyaln know what he had done) he was in the conference room of the Klingon cruiser, Netqla before him. Tedak was beside him as well as his disguised intel agent. Each party nodded curtly to one another and took their seats at the table. "Let's get down to it, Commander," Ghes said, "Why have you come to this colony? Do you intend to invade the Romulan Star Empire? You should know that we know of Mulus Tetri, his terrorist action on the surface and his - now former - plans to seek asylum - presumably with your approval - with the Romulans, to subvert their political system prior to an invasion." It was an almighty claim based on circumstantial evidence, though Klingons, he hoped, would appreciate boldness of speech.

"I can keep up," Savin replied irritably, "I am not as fit as I am normally but I am not an invalid. You are not required to carry me, nor do I appreciate your touch." Savin hated being treated as if he wasn't fully functional. And while he was still recovering, he was cleared for duty and he knew there were fitness expectations which he tried to adhere to. He certainly didn't appreciate special treatment because of his deafness but fortunately no-one even dared mention that part.
AS soon as he saw the injured security officer, he abandoned the group and made straight for the injured man, kneeling at his side to commit himself to treating the man. "Your injuries are not severe," he reassured the yellow shirt, while running the dermal regenerator over his skin. "If you wish you may return to the Enzio, or you may stay to tend to your prior duties." From his father he knew that security officers were dedicated people who would prefer to remain on duty, which is why he gave the young man the choice.
"I will transport over to the Klingon vessel," Tedak stated calmly. He wasn't a fighter, not with weapons at any rate and he felt out of place in the raging battle. He had refused the phaser one of the Starfleet personnel had offered him, and he had not even pulled out his own Honour Blade. He knew how to fight, just preferred not to show his skill in a battle of physique. His skills lay in the battle of words, and he preferred a verbal battle over a physical one. "There is nothing I can do here, so please....yes beam me over."
Allowing himself to be led to the conference room, Tedak sat down between Gheskori and the Klingon commander, acting as a buffer between them while he listened to Gheskori fire his questions at the Klingon commander.

Taking a very deep breath Krieala pushed her back against the cold stone wall, it was only about three feet in height meant mostly for decoration but it would make do for at least temporary cover. She knew she only had a few minutes before the Klingons were in range and once they were she had no doubt the fighting would start in earnest.
Despite Admiral Gheskori having now beaming over to the Klingon vessel with the Ambassador she doubted that even if he could manage to talk the Klingons into leaving it wouldn't be in time to stop them reaching the colony proper.
Vyaln wasn't afraid of death, nor was she squeamish in taking a life in battle, or for that matter taking a life in general it is something she had done before, but she had to admit she was apprehensive now, in past battles it was always in a location that didn't involve civilians. And when she had killed someone in one of her intricate plans, she knew precisely how it would turn out before she started.
Looking to her left she nodded at her men and motioned for them to stay down until given the signal, then to her right she looked at the Federation Marines and gave another slight nod. Her hand gripped the disruptor pistol even more tightly now, looking up at the sky she couldn't help but be slightly amused to see it was in fact a beautiful day, if it wasn't for the plume of smoke rising from a kilometer away it would have been perfect.
In the distance she heard voices, they carried on the wind and continued to get louder, they were guttural and deep more akin to a growl than a form of speech. They were too far away for her translator implant to be able to render it into Romulan. She again looked to her security and shook her head.
She knew that they would only get one shot at a surprise, each Romulan scanning device worn by her men was emitting a dampening field, she knew the enemy wouldn't be able to use scanners to detect their positions, but once she and the defenders began to shoot that advantage would be over. Klingons in her estimation were dumb and brutish but she doubted they were dumb enough to fall for the same trick twice in as many minutes.
Minutes seemed to drag on for eternities in of themselves, until finally she slightly popped up on her knees and spun around, firing her disruptor as many times as it could manage in only a few moments, as her people and colonists joined in a flurry if green beams raced out into the Klingons, who for their part scattered and began to take cover.
She got back into cover as the red disruptor bolts of Klingon weaponry began to fly over head and smack with devastating results into the side of buildings, dust and debris began to fill the air as the exchange of fire continued, she estimated it the current line would hold for a few minutes before enough of them lay dead or wounded for the Klingons to try and overwhelm them with melee weapons.

Tiana had lingered at the back of the meeting as the debates started, popular opinion seemed to swing one way and then the other. She honestly ad no idea which way things were going to go. It would probably split the population. She had to leave the meeting to take communications rom the Enzio. Ghes's words about the developing situation were not reassuring at all. There were gearing up for a fight. There was clear.
Tiana passed the word around including Commander Vyaln and the colonists. She didn't think the latter had properly understood th imminence of the message, and she wasn't sure what the former thought. However, despite that, she really didn't expect to start hearing disruptor fire and phaser fire on the edge of the town. She drew her phaser and guestured to the rest of the awaited as she turned to find out what the situation was and then how they could best help.

After a furious opening exchange, the Klingons soon took offence to the more delicate questions and stormed out, having two guards brought into the room. "A communication from your ship, Admiral," one of the guards said. Ghes was shown into a small compartment separate from the conference room, soon realising that perhaps Netqla and his XO had actually left because of the comm.
He accessed the red and amber panel, finding it was audio only. "Enzio, Gheskori here."
"Admiral," Lieutenant Baird's voice, "We have found evidence of debris of a Klingon vessel matching the description of their standard science explorer type, in low orbit of the colony. Interestingly, fragments show no evidence of any attack having taken place. From analysis it would seem their core went critical after a failure of antimatter containment... No foul play suspected unless it was internal sabotage, though unlikely... nothing exotic in the spectroscopic analysis."
"Why didn't we detect this before?"
"Interference from the field generated by the planet's delta silica deposits, sir... Only by descending to a lower orbit were we able to get a reading on the fragments."
Acknowledging and closing the comm, Ghes grinned and made his way back into the conference room, the guards nodding and having Netqla and the XO return. Ghes informed Netqla of the news and invited him to consult the Enzio's data. "Regardless, my warriors are already on the surface, Admiral..." the Commander said, "The Romulans among the colonists will pay for their collusion with Commander Vyaln and her Warbird." The first officer laughed.
"Could we at least try to negotiate a cease fire?" Ghes asked, disbelieving of the audacity of the Klingons in making themselves intractable when they were in flagrant violation of interstellar law and numerous treaties. "These findings nullify your stated reasons for being here."
Net'qla glanced at the first officer, "Very well. You have six hours to withdraw all the human colonists from the surface... When the time is up, whether or not you've recovered your citizens the colony will be crushed." They departed the conference room again.
The Klingons would visit the Romulan Navy upon them, and plunge the quadrant into diplomatic turmoil, possibly war, he thought. He sighed - a six hour reprieve; act on a pretence of evacuating the human colonists, meanwhile find whatever they could that would have the Klingons depart the system, and if it came to it, instruct the surface teams to prepare for a renewed onslaught. He watched the implacable Tedak; unusual territory for a diplomat but, "Tedak, if you were to challenge Netqla to a duel... Do you think he would accept, if it was a matter of honour?"

There was no way they could accept the cease fire arrangement as it was, Ghes and his senior officers aboard the Enzio knew that. The human colonists wanted to remain - although he realised that no official word had been brought of that, the information collected from the public gathering seemed to indicate the majority of the humans wanted to stay.
To take them against their will would risk raising the ire of the Romulans who'd declared the planet, its Romulan and human inhabitants under Star Empire protection; it would also be contrary to Federation law, though the details of the law in these extenuating circumstances were a little hazy to Ghes - still he'd better play it safe and leave the colonists to avoid reprimands and courts-martial.
Thus the fighting would continue, likely until the colony was completely defeated - or, it depended on how much materiel the Klingons were willing to commit to the conquering of this world, and if that was a great deal, then this dispute over a border world close to all three factions' space would soon escalate into a not insignificant conflict between the Klingons and a tentative alliance, Ghes theorised, between the Federation and the Romulans.
He ordered that Netqla be hailed, having returned to the Enzio following the unpleasant negotiations with supposed allies - along with Tedak who perhaps wished for time to evaluate whether challenging Netqla to a duel was a good idea or conversely a profoundly bad idea...
"Commander," he said, the Klingon bridge appearing on the viewscreen. Netqla nodded, leaning towards the screen. "I must regrettably inform you that we cannot abide by the terms of the cease fire. Our citizens on the planet below are under protection of the Star Empire willingly; any attack on them you make now will be equally against the Star Empire and the Federation, so I would strongly advise you cease your assault, before this conflict becomes an interstellar one."
"Admiral, you disappoint. Officers in your position should use moderation, adapt to the circumstances..." Netqla sat back, brooding, "But I can see your petty ideals are too inflexible to adjust to the reality of quadrant politics. The colony will be destroyed. We will resume the attack immediately. Netqla, out."
"Tedak, the duel?" he turned, asking the Ambassador who stood impassive on the upper deck.
<Tag Tedak>
On the surface the away team, security officers, marines and Romulans came under renewed attack, red disruptor bolts shooting out from many angles from behind intervening debris and natural rock in the arid land. With their covering fire laid down, the Klingons burst from cover, hollering their feral war cries, and with bat'leths engaged some of the Romulans in hand to hand combat.
<Tag Vyaln, Tiana, Savin, Aeryn, Daya>
In the door of the building behind the frontline of the fighting stood Mulus Tetri and his three armed guards - the insurgents who'd detonated the bomb across the settlement. His ravaged face hidden beneath its cloak, he looked out on the combatants and nodded to his associates, "We should withdraw. Hail the cloaked vessel in orbit.

"Tedak, if you were to challenge Netqla to a duel... Do you think he would accept, if it was a matter of honour?"
"A duel?" The Romulan diplomat stared in open surprise. "Me? Admiral surely you remember that I'm not a fighter?" Sure, he knew how to fight, knew how to defend himself and was more than proficient with a dagger only because he trained with it in order to be able to defend himself. But he only knew how to use a dagger, any other kind of weapon he refused to touch by default.
Yet, he knew there was a lot at stake here and a starship commander couldn't be expected to do it himself. That, and this seemed a dispute between the Romulans and the Klingons, since the planet was now in Romulan territory. He sighed after a few long seconds of thought. "There is a ritual, widely recognized though these days hardly practiced," he started slowly, obviously really not liking this idea, nor having to participate in it. "It's a ritual to the death admiral...an ancient Vulcan ritual that the Romulan people still remember and acknowledge. It's called the Toriatal. During this challenge, both parties are bound by a cease fire while the combatants fight."

While Savin was oblivious to the sounds of the shots, he wasn't oblivious to the light they emanated nor the debris that showered him and the rest of the team. He ducked his head to avoid getting dirt in his eyes. Seeing the Romulans engaged in combat, he drew his own sword and emerged to come to their aid. His gaze fell to the building and the Klingon stood there. Making a single gesture to one of the Romulans, he then charged towards Tetri in a full run. He knew he could do it, this wasn't the first time he'd engaged multiple targets and he practiced it often enough on the holodeck. The young Vulcan was a proficient fighter, even if he wasn't in top physical condition.
His aim was simply to prevent them from leaving so at first chance he knocked the communicator from the hand of one of the guards, slicing the Klingon's hand with the tip of his blade in the process. In the same swing, he took the second guard down. Savin knew the guard was only wounded and not killed, also knowing this was likely to create the larger insult as an honourable death had been denied for him.

Tiana did not like fighting, she wasn't very good at it either. Yes, she had passed the Academy requirements but that had been barely. These days, however, it wasn't,t just her opinion that mattered. Cet had a lot more experience in this sort of thing than she did and was only too willing to use it.
Tiana had hunkered down behind a rather battered wall and was doing her best to pick off their attackers one by one. She had put extra time, well, time at all, in on the phaser range in the last few years and it was showing. Of course, the Klingons weren't stupid, mores the pity, and were doing their best to stay out of her arc of fire. If targets got any fewer she was going to have to move to a different position and she really wasn't looking forward to that.
There was small scuff of stone behind her. Tiana turned to find a Klingon in the midst of attempting to stab her. She wondered if he had made the noise deliberately, it wasn't honourable to stab someoqne in the back after all. She threw herself down in an untidy sprawl and then rolled once before coming to her feet. Turning towards her he found that he was too close to the wall for some of his bat'leth moves. That gave Tiana another vital second. She still had her phaser in her hand. Cet might have the moves to go hand-to-hand but this particular Klingon out reached and out massed Tiana quite considerably. Neither Tiana nor Cet was planning to get into a fight if they didn't have to. She fired and then had to dodge the bat'leth once again as it's wielder collapsed.
Tiana glanced about, things were relatively quiet here. Savin had his sword in hand, much as she could get distracted watching him, she took aim at another Klingon approaching from behind him and seeing that warrior drop ran as fast as she could for another wall about 20 metres away. Really that was too far but it was the nearest cover. Red bolts cut the air as she flung herself flat down behind the wall and took a moment to catch her breath and try to catch up with what was happening around her.
