Now that a new Fleet Representative had been appointed, it was only right that the old offices, once used by the former occupant, be cleaned and redecorated ...
The 'Fed Reps' Office was in fact three offices ... The 'outer' office was there to allow members to 'walk-in' and speak to either the Representative himself, or one of his Staff, the second was essentially an anteroom, with the inner Office the Representatives Private Office. Carl had, (posing as the newly appointed Fleet Rep of course), requested that the long disused Offices be redecorated. But he had numerous 'unique' requests that were at first thought beyond their scope, but once the Sections executive Officer instructed the modifications to be carried out as ordered, Star Fleet's corps of Engineers got to work .....
Marine Lieutenant Colonel Aeryn Tavik, the newly appointed Fleet Representative, was due to arrive within hours and the room was still unfinished. Carl, not one to push people beyond their capabilities, did just that, offering 'incentives'to all who managed to get the redecorating completed before Tavik's arrival. It worked wonders as they attacked the task with renewed vigour (a weeks leave the incentive) and the Inner Officer, that of the Fleet Rep himself was completed.
Waiting in the mezzanine foyer of Star Fleet Command, Carl wondered how the man would react to his new decor. 'hell, he can always redecorate' he thought with an inner grin as Tavik walked through the massive glass doors. His Staff approached, taking his files and following their newly appointed boss to the turbo-lifts.
One the ninth floor they stepped out, and walked along the carpeted corridor finally reaching the outer office where one of his Staff was already seated. She stood, handing him several PADD's .... In the anteroom, or outer waiting room, there were several people waiting to congratulate him on his appointment, and a few wishing to bring issues to his attention, but his Aide, a young Lieutenant asked them to wait in her soothing voice. Thanking her Aeryn walked into his Office and stood stock still, admiring the decor, the ornate furniture, the view of San Francisco bay and the Bridge.
But the thing that impressed him most, was the fact the floor was completely bare, bereft of a single item of furniture, instead, every single piece of furniture in the room, from the desk, to his chair, mini-bar, view-screen, even the carpet ...
Were fixed to the ceiling !
