OFF: Emelye, get well soon . Luke, that was brilliant! I like that move! "That was a Romulan ship!" T'Mar exclaimed once she got up and crawled unto her chair. She saw on the viewscreen that they had moved into the anomaly and also the shuttle. A perfect place to hide if the enemy thinks the other ship is destroyed. "Damage report!" she demanded, The explosion had caused severe damage to one of the nacelles. Apparently the enemy had concentrated the fire on that because the shields in that section were strong. The deputy chief engineer told her it would take two days to repair it. "Well, you must speed it up and repair it before they find out what this spatial anomaly is. I am sending additional personnel down" she told him. If they the attackers were Romulans, they would soon find out where Scavenger could be. "They haven't seen us move in here" Sovas said. "The plasma exhaust cause such a big explosion that they might believe we're destroyed." "If they are not following," T'Mar said, "they aren't Romulans. That also explains the sudden attack." "You've destroyed them you fool!!!" the commander blurted at the weapons officer. He took out his side arm and vaporised him before he could stammer that he did not do that. Another man reported that there was hardly enough debris to suggest that the Scavenger had been destroyed. "But the explosion!?" "Some device to deceive us!" the other man said. "They have disappeared!" "I will not be deceived!" the commander shouted. "FIND THEM!" The commander was a Reman and his crew was a band of gangsters. Some of them had been involved with the Orion Syndicate. They would strip the Scavenger and leave the crew somewhere desolate. The commander went to his quarters from which he returned after several hours. "They must be hiding in that cloud. We have hit their engines so they cannot go to warp for some time. They must still be here! Probe that cloud!" A gang member went to work constructing a probe and sent it into the anomaly. Because of his lack of scientific knowledge, the probe was only equipped with a sensor to detect warpplasma exhaust and large masses of tritanium. They had no clue that everything would be shrunk in that space. On the Scavenger, the shuttle had returned aboard and T'Mar and Emelye, had a quick discussion. "Romulans? Here? Attacking a federation ship?" Emelye was flabbergasted. "I do not think they are actually Romulans, rather a band of criminals. They have not followed us which means that they must believe this is just any cloud." "I'll go help in engineering. We must warp out of here before they realise it." T'Mar wholeheartedly agreed. "I'll be taking some rest. I really need to. Let me know when there is news."

Yes, we're all shrunk.
At some point the pirates will find out about it due to one smart person aboard their ship and come after us I think. I'll have to figure that out. But I'm hitting the sack now, 23:00 here.
I'll check again tomorrow.

Trust looked out into the universe. Being smaller somehow made space even bigger than it was. He could faintly see the ship that had attacked the Scavenger. It looked like a distant planet to him. He sighed and walked away from the window. He didn't like being small. How would he return to Earth one day? In a shoebox?
He walked slowly wondering if there was anything he could do to help reverse the shrinking. He had a degree in engineering but not as advanced as Luke.
Trust went to the bridge.
"Commodore is there anything I can do at the moment? I want to get us all back. I don't like the thought of being small."
"There isn't much we can do now. Go help the others repair the ship. I will call you if I need you."
"Ok. Thank you."
Trust left the bridge and went to see Luke.

Out of the corner of his eye, Luke saw Trust walk into Engineering. "Hi," Trust said. "Just wanted to know if I could help?" Luke smiled. "You could work with Ensign Yamill, my Deputy Chief Engineer. She's on Deck 12, Junction 15 repairing a bunch of EPS relays. There vital if we want to bring warp drive back online". Trust nodded and left the room.
"The time is now 19:00 hours," the Computer bellowed in Engineering. He had told it to alert him when he duty shift was over. "Ensign McDwyer," Luke said. "You're in charge until Yamill gets back. Beta team will be here in half an hour". McDwyer nodded as Luke left the room. He walked to his quarters and jumped into the shower. He hated the Sonic showers, and three weeks ago he had had a 20th Century one installed. The water rushing over his body felt refreshing, a lot better than sonic waves. He exited the shower and went to the replicator. He programmed the replicator to produce 2 plates of garlic bread, 2 plates of Spaghetti Bolagnese and a Chocolate fudge cake for dessert. Suddenly, he heard the sound of a transporter beam behind him. He turned quickly as Emelye appeared. He felt like a fool stood there in a towel, dripping wet. Emelye's face went bright pink as she began to laugh. "Nice abs," she said as Luke ran into the shower room.

Aboard the romulan warbird, some crew were working on the probe. "Those starfleets, allways run away and go hiding!" one of them grunted. "Our shares should better be good." The others concurred. On the bridge someone was looking at sensordata. She was the only one on the bridge with some scientific background. "Boss, I've never seen such an anomaly before but if I'm right, everything gets shrunk in there!" "What do you mean by shrunk?" the leader asked. "Well, just what it means. Everything gets tiny in there." "How tiny?" the boss demanded. "The further you go in, the smaller you get. That's it." The leader thought about it for a moment. "I don't like to go in there. They might see us and take advantage. They'll move out again and escape. We will wait here for now. I think we can smoke them out" he grinned. (I'll continue tomorrow

T'Mar had rested for a while and read reports from her crew. Repairs on the nacelle were progressing well and the enemy ship did not seem to be looking for them. "They're just waiting for us Emelye. They do not have the nerve to come after us. It might mean they are cowards, but a coward can be most dangerous." "They still haven't moved sir" SOvas reported. "However they have launched a probe. Should I intercept it and bring it aboard?" T'Mar looked at the vieuwscreen which showed the probe flying towards the ship. "It is still a lot bigger than us. Wait till it is near and destroy it. We cannot bring it aboard because it might be boobytrapped." Sovas waited for the probe to come near and destroyed it with a phaserblast.
Aboard the warbird, they lost contact with their probe. "Where is that probe!" the gang leader demanded. The one with scientific experience explained that the probe was probably destroyed but could not determine how. "I can't get contact, so it must be destroyed or the transeiver is broken, which is unlikely." The leader, who was called Gornath, grunted and became impatient. "Allright, we're going after them! Helm, come about and head for that cloud!"

Sovas's consel began to beep erraticaly.
Sovas: Commodore, something is coming within sensor range. It's the alien ship. Soon they will detect us, but they will also begin to shrink.
T'Mar: Shields up, and back us off, 1/2 impulse power. I want to keep a distance, I want to know what we are dealing with.
Sovas: The alien ship is beginning to shrink... I'm getting some readings. The ship's configuration is Romulan, ma'am.
T'Mar: Romulan? Have they detected us yet?
Sovas: I am not certain. They haven't fired or launched another probe yet.
T'Mar: Is there any way out of here? If we return to normal size, we will have a great advantage.
Sovas: We are so small, even at warp it would take us a few hours to leave the cloud.
T'Mar: ...

"We'd better avoid them for now" T'Mar said. "Helm, plot a course away from the enemy. For now, they may not be able to see us, but once they are smaller, it might be easier for them to pick up our warp trail. If we fly out of here on a different course, we will remain small. Once out, we will send a message to starfleet to warn them about the Romulan ship here. We will remain in the area to keep an eye on that ship." "How will we get bigger again?" Emelye wondered. "Or maybe we could take advantage of the situation and investigate what's going on aboard that ship." "We will be able to do that once they find out we're not here anymore and leave the anomaly. I have studied the schematics of this type of ship and there is a way to get inside. " "Sounds interesting" Emelye said. "We sneak aboard and do some reconnaisance." "Indeed." They avoided contact with the romulan warbird and left the anomaly but did not regain their old sizes. T'Mar contacted Starfleet Command about the situation and was advised that the Romulans had warned Starfleet about a warbird controlled by rogue mercenaries who had hyjacked the ship and were keeping the romulan crew hostage.
T'Mar called a staff briefing. "Our main goal is freeing the hostages. When this is accomplished, the Romulans will be quite grateful and this will be good for our relationship with the Romulans. The mercenaries are a great danger and must be captured. Any ideas on how to take them out?" "Sir," Sovas' head came up. "I can modify the phasers to stun the mercenaries for several hours. We may then have enough time to take them all out and allow the Romulan crew to regain controll of their ship."

Trust was listening intently at the plan. He loved this kind of action but was always careful. These kinds of missions asked for a great pilot and Trust was one of the best. Trust tingled with excitment.
The briefing broke up and Trust followed T'Mar to the bridge. Trust sat down at the helm and got the engines ready.
"All set Commodore." Trust reported.
"Good set a course to enter the warbird. Full impulse. Our size should not be detected but if we are be prepared to fly us out of there as fast you can."
"Yes Ma'am." Trust did as the Commodore said. The Warbird loomed closer. It looked immensly huge and it was an extraordinary site. Trust kept the Scavenger on a heading to enter the weak spot which would lead them to the inside of the warbird.
"Ma'am we should be entering the warbird in approxiametly 10 minutes. So far their ship's sensors have not picked us up."
Ten minutes later the warbird loomed over the Scavenger. Trust piloted the Scavenger through a small opening in the hull of the warbird. Trust skillfully manouvered the Scavenger along the passage deeper into the Romulan warbird.
Trust took a deep breathe in, this would be interesting.

T'Mar had studied schematics of several types of romulan warbirds in the past. "We must first sabotage their engines and then take controll of their main computer . It will disorganize their crew. Once the main computer is ours, they cannot use any system. Then we incapacitate the crew with a nerve gas." She ordered Sovas to head for engineering and be careful not to rouse any of the pirates. "The ship is still a few decimeters in length. One half impulse Mr Sovas." "Aye sir" the helmsman replied. The pirate leader was wondering what had happened and was rude to his teammembers. The man who was supposed to track Scavenger was brutally abused. "What do you mean 'lost them' You're a useless idiot! "I am sorry!" the poor man replied. "They are smarter than I thought but they can't have gone far. I have not picked up any warp trail leading away from here." "Find them!" the pirate captain growled.

Sovas was in the armory, briefing three security officers on the situation...
Sovas: Everyone, at attention please. As you all have heard, this is a rescue mission. We will try to keep combat at bare minimum. I have modified these phaser rifles to emit a small orb. In this orb is a nerve gas. When the orb comes into contact with a surface, a wall or the floor, it will release the gas. So in essence, a modified grenade launcer. We will also be armed with phasers, just incase stealth fails us. Don't worry if the hostages are knocked out by the nerve gas, since it causes no permanent damage.
The officers nodded confidently.
Sovas: Now, then. I have found an interesting beam in point. Right here.
Sovas pointed to a computer generated map on the screen.
Sovas: This area is a weak spot. It is right behind this plasma conduit. With all the energy running through here, it is unlikely they will be able to spot our arrival. That is when we will rush engineering. That is where we will launch the first orb. Now, within a couple of minutes, they will be aware of the situation, so we must act quickly.
Officer #1: Sir, what if they do spot the beam in?
Sovas: We will still have to rush, Ensign. Either way, the hostages must escape. Alright, dismissed. Meet me in transporter room in 30 minutes.

Sovas was in the transporter room awaiting his team (Three officers). They arrived shortly after, looking determined...Yet Sovas could tell they were a bit nervous.
Sovas: Don't have any second thoughts, if logic fails you, go with your instinct.
The officers nodded and stepped onto the pad. Sovas soon followed.
Sovas: =^=Sovas to Commodore T'Mar, we are ready to transport.=^=
T'Mar: =^=By all means, Lieutenant=^=
Sovas: Energize.
The tranporter officer activated it, and they were instantly on the Romulan ship. When they got there, they quickly looked around, making sure it was a secure area.
Sovas: Looks like we made the beam in point. Come on, engineering shouldn't be far.
Sovas and his team followed a narrow, winding corridor. It was in the bowels of the ship, and it was very hot, due to the plasma conduits running through it.
Sovas: Watch your heads, it seems like we'll have to duck the rest of the way.
The team continued to walk through the winding corridor, until they reached a hatch no more than a meter long.
Sovas: This is it... If we open this hatch, we will arrive in the engineering section. Remember, be ready for anything. When I count to 1, I will kick down this hatch...... 3.................2................1............Now!
Sovas kicked open the hatch and the team quickly flooded into engineering....
Security officer #1: Where are the hostages? They were supposed to be right here.
Sovas: Something is wrong here.
A hissing noise began to come from all around the team.
Security officer #2: What is that sound?
Sovas: It is some form of sedative gas. Come on, let's get out of here. Back into the tube!
The team huddled to get to the tube. It became increasingly difficult for them to breathe. One of the officers began to clutch his chest in pain and began to collapse. Sovas looked over and ran back for him.
Sovas: Come...on...
Officer #1: I...*gasp* I can't move...
Sovas began to pull the man up to his feet when he was met with the same discomfort.
Sovas: Come on...Quickly!
Sovas's vision began to fade and became blurry.
Sovas: I can't see anything.
Without knowing it, Sovas had collapsed onto the floor. Two Romulan officers walked over to Sovas's body.
Romulan: They are not going anywhere. Get the other two officers. They seem to have left the way they came in. Get them in a detention cell...

Luke had been alerted to what had happened. He immediately tried to beam the team out, but there was a dampening filed around them. "Ensign Yamill!" Luke shouted. Yamill looked up. "Find a way to get the out of there!"

T'Mar tried to contact her team aboard the pirate ship but they didn't answer. "Commander Brianon, this is most peculiar. Can you track their commbadges?"
"Yes I've found them and they appear to be unconcious. I'm beaming them out!" She replied.
A while later Sovas appeared on the bridge. "Commodore, we ran into some trouble aboard the pirate ship" he said. "So it seems" T'Mar replied. "But have you been able to gather some information?"
"Not much sir. But I can go back with Lieutenant Dunsmore to disable their engines. I know where to beam in."
T'Mar nodded. "Then we don't even have to bring in the Scavenger to do that job. You and Mr Dunsmore should prepare for your mission. Good luck!"

"Hello Ensign," Luke said to Sovas as the young CTSO walked into Engineering. Luke didn't really know Sovas and he felt a little akward as he began his introduction of the mission outline. Fortunately, Sovas appeared to be a great person and Luke clicked with him straight away. "Okay," Luke said. "We beam in in a small tubular junction here". He pointed to a 3-D interactive map in the middle of Engineering. "Then, we flood their engine room with anestacine gas. Once there are knocked out and the gas clears, we beam in, do what we need to and get out of there. I don't want to spend that long there. I suggest Ensign that you bring some backup". "Aye Sir," Sovas said. "Sovas," said Luke. The Ensign looked up. "Don't call me Sir. Luke Lieutenant will do fine".

Sovas felt his collar and thought that he was missing a pip.
Luke Dunsmore: Oh, apologies... I do not see you very often.
Sovas: No problem whatsoever.
Sovas smiled and began to gather up equipment.
Dunsmore: Ahem...you are a Vulcan right?
Sovas: Indeed I am.
Dunsmore: Then what about the small grin?
Sovas: Oh. Well you see, I suffer a slight inbalance in my brain. I could not fully complete the Vulcan trials in my younger years. Sometimes, emotions manage to seep through.
Dunsmore: Most interesting.
Sovas: So, how shall we use the gas? Grenade form I suppose?
Dunsmore: As long as it knocks them out, I will be happy.
Sovas: And that is what we shall get.
Dunsmore: Have you picked a team?
Sovas: Yes. However, Ensign Morgen (NPC), the man who was captured along with me is in sickbay, still recovering. I will have to choose another to replace him.
Sovas checked the roster.
Sovas: Hm... Lieutenant JG. Jriss (NPC). She sounds like a wise choice. Alright, I believe we are ready to beam over.

Luke breathed deeply as he materialised with Sovas, Morgen and Jriss on the Romulan ship. Before he had gone, he had kissed Emelye goodbye. He didn't want to admit it, but his kiss could have been the last moment he had with Emelye. The possibility of surviving this mission was quite high, but there was always the chance of failure. Even if he survived, the Scavenger would probably be destroyed. As the team crawled through the dank, grey interial tunnels of the Romulan vessel Luke began to sweat profusely. He thought this strange, as one thing he never ever did was sweat profusely. Only that damp, salty kind of feeling. It wasn't particularily warm in the tubes, so look began to worry. "Morgen," Luke said. "Are you sweating?" "Yes Sir," Morgen replied. "It isn't warm though". Then, like a smack in the face, the reason for the perspiration presented itself.
OFF- This seems innanimate, but it could be frightening or interesting. I'll leave this for Sovas to lead with!
