Illito wished that she could be on the surface of the planet, or at least able to help somewhat with the mission, but sickbay was always the same, at least, it would be unless they suffered an attack, or there was some sort of disease. So while Illito wished she could do more for the mission, she didn’t wish that she had more to do.
The ship shuddered, with the unmistakable feel of weapons fire hitting it, and the red alert sirens blared. And continued to sound. Illito wished there could be some way to prevent the noise, but it didn’t seem possible, and while it could prove distracting to people trying to concentrate on saving people’s lives, Illito didn’t think that anyone could like a long time on a starship without getting used to the noise, and learning to block it out.
Illito didn’t need to tell the people who worked with her in sickbay to prepare for an influx of injured people, they could interpret the red alert and occasional shuddering of the ship at least as well as she could. As sickbay became a flurry of activity, with some crewmembers helping to bring their injured friends down here, Illito tried to find the time to thank the people who helped support their crewmember, often it could be hard enough just to convince those who were actually injured that they should find time to report, Illito understood that while no one wanted to simply abandon someone to find their own way to sickbay; the ship was obviously under attack, and most of the injuries were minor enough that the person could have made it to sickbay on their own. Illito wondered briefly about those who had been injured and planned to wait until the current crisis was over until they came down, and realized she couldn’t do anything to help them unless they were willing to help themselves, and she could deal with their injuries when they came down.
Illito managed to learn from some of the crewmembers that the attacking ship was Romulan, and claimed that there were Romulan fugitives that were being harbored on the planet, and since much of the work she had to do occupied her hands but left her mind free, she spent a lot of her brain energy on thinking what that could mean. What would the Romulan Empire, or, for that matter, Romulan fugitives, if the Romulans’ story was true, want with a Pre-Warp planet? The Federation mainly left such planets alone, which meant that they could be easily used as a base of operations. And while there was some monitoring equipment, most of it was meant as a reminder not to go there, and it probably wouldn’t be that hard to circumvent. Which left the question of why the Romulans had been so fast to reveal their presence to the Federation, even if they hadn’t been very slow to fire either. Could it be that there were actually Romulan fugitives? And how, if at all, did they tie into the ship that the Scavenger had stopped to help?
Illito’s wandering thoughts were cut off by the sound of an emergency transport, to one of the surgical beds, and she was at the side of the bed before the transport was finished. She glanced at the readings, while the patient wasn’t critical, she would be soon if something wasn’t done quickly. She selected a hypospray of Rexalin, sedating the patient, and began to examine the burns. Probably from an exploded counsel, Illito thought that something should be able to be done to prevent them, they seemed to be one of the biggest causes of major injuries. But that was a problem she should take for Engineering, and it was a problem for after she saved this patient’s life.

"Katie, hurry up you don't want to be late do you?" Paikea asked as he finished putting in all his stuff. It really wasn't much, but for Paikea it felt as if he had bought a store full of clothes.
Paikea had found out a bit earlier than Katie, so he decided not to tell her that he had been assigned to the USS Scavenger, but when she told him that she had also been transferred to the Scavenger. Paikea was so happy that he just landed a big one on her. It caused a real scene in front of the graduation party, especially once her family saw them.
"You know you could help out," Katie said as she heaved one of her bags into the shuttle.
"But that’s not my job," Paikea said laughing.
"Well then I will take even longer," Katie said in defiance.
"Fine," Paikea said thinking it was a bluff.
<Tag Katie>
It had taken them forty-five minutes to get all of Katie's stuff inside the ship. Paikea should have just shut-ten up and helped her. Now they were on the USS Pink Kitty, how it was named this Paikea never knew, but Katie seemed to like the name.
"I know pink is your favorite color, but this is ridiculous,” Paikea said as he took the control of the shuttle.
<Tag Katie>
“Starbase Conqueror this is the Pink Kitty and we are ready to depart,” Paikea said to the flight controller.
“You have a go Pink Kitty and God speed.” Here we go Paikea thought as he finished the pre-launch sequence and the shuttle flew out of the starbase, when they had cleared its air space, the shuttle went to Warp 7 and headed towards the USS Scavenger.

Katie was in her room looking over herself in the mirror before she left the for her first assignment. She looked at the two pips on her next and smiled at what she had achieved in the last few months. Katie turned and looked at her cadet uniform she had packed ontop of all her other clothes and felt strangly different from the first time she first put on that uniform until now.
"I'm so proud of you." Katie's mom said from behind her.
Katie turned around to face her mother. Growing up Katie always saw her mom and her dad in Starfleet unifroms but this was the first time she was wearing one and they were not. Katie hugged her mother with tears of joy falling from both of the women's eyes.
"Who is that firecracker?" Katie heard her father say.
"Daddy, please!" Katie said.
Katie hugged her father. He squeezed her tight as he had always done when she was younger.
"I'm so proud of you dear." Her father said.
Katie was walked to the shuttle bay by her family. It was nice to have all of them around again, since it had been so long since they had been together like this. Katie spotted Paikea loading his bags onto a lone shuttle in the back of the bay. Katie turned to her family and smile getting more hugs and kisses from everybody.
"Take care of yourself." Katie's father said.
"We love you." Katie's mother said.
"Don't even think about transfering to my ship anytime soon!" Dave said.
"Don't listen to him Kay, you are always welcome on my ship." Sean said with a smile.
Katie waved on last time as she walked toward Paikea and the shuttle he was packing up.
"Katie, hurry up you don't want to be late do you?" Paikea asked as he finished putting in all his stuff. It really wasn't much, but for Paikea it felt as if he had bought a store full of clothes.
Katie walked a bit more briskly to get to the shuttle sooner. Looking around Katie spotted the mass amount of items Paikea was bringing along with him, Katie looked at her stuff and felt as if she should have brought more along with her.
After loading up her bags Katie pulled out a single pink marker and crossed out the name of the ship and officially renamed it the 'USS Pink Kitty'. Paikea watched her writing but didn't say anything.
"There we go! I'm ready to go." Katie said with a smile.
"Pink Kitty?" Paikea said in a curious tone.
"You should know by now." Katie replied.
"Oh, right."
Katie followed Paikea into the shuttle, turning one last time to wave to her family before the shuttle's doors closed. Sitting down next to Paikea Katie leaned over and kissed Paikea on the cheek before looking over the controls.
"Let's get going Lieutenant Junior Grade Paikea." Katie said with a smile.

The trip to meet up with the USS Scavenger was quite uneventful, after receiving their last known coordinates Paikea had set auto pilot to head to wards the destination. Paikea quickly headed to wards his bag and took out a PADD that he had brought with him. Personal Message to Commander Matt Reynolds, USS JeffersonHey Matt, guess who this is, well of course you already know by now. I hope that when you receive this everything is alright on the Jefferson. Well I graduated the Academy finally and I'm on my way to wards the USS Scavenger commanded by its long time Captain, Commodore TMar. I don't know much about her, but I hope that with her guidance I will become a great Starfleet officer.
On another note, I have met someone her name is Katie Anderson and I was lucky enough to meet her at the Academy and we're now being transferred to the same ship. Oh yeah before I forget my mom came to my graduation, I never thought that she would, but hey she did and I will always be grateful. Well I don't want to make this very long so I have to say bye. Your Friend Lt. JG Paikea After finishing his letter to Matt, Paikea joined Katie at the tactical station and talked about anything and everything. <Tag Katie> They had been talking for hours and both them quickly realized that they were both hungry. Well they found out when Paikea's stomach started growling. "Seems someone is hungry," Katie said as she poked Paikea. Paikea laughed it off and headed to wards the replicator. Unfortunately for them the shuttle didn't have a large assortments of choice for them to choose. "Hey what do you want to eat?" he asked of her, " there isn't much choice." <Tag Katie> Paikea replicated himself a turkey sandwich and some orange juice and Katie asked for <what ever Katie chose>. They both ate in silence just enjoying each others company. Paikea quickly realized that replicated sandwiches were very bad, but he really couldn't complain, he had chosen it. Paikea was about to bite into his sandwich when the the navigation console started beeping. Paikea got up and went to check it out. What he read astonished him and froze him for a couple of seconds. "Katie take your station, prepare for battle," Paikea said as he read the sensors. A Federation vessel was being pursued by a Romulan warbird. "Computer what Federation Vessel other than the shuttle can your sensors detect?" "The USS Imperial and the USS Scavenger" "Which one is being chased by an enemy vessel?" Paikea asked. "The USS Scavenger" "Computer can we contact the Scavenger?" Paikea asked. "Affirmative" "Scavenger this is the USS Pink Kitty, we see the enemy ship and we are prepared to engage them," Paikea said. "Pink Kitty this is Scavenger, we are going to be at your destination in ten minutes, we will be sending tactical information to you as we speak" a women said who Paikea took to be the Commodore. "Aye, ma'am," Paikea said," is there anything else?" <Tag Scavenger bridge> "Computer how far away is the Imperial?" Paikea asked. "The Imperial is 15 light-years from this destination." "Okay, send out a distress call in all frequencies priority one," Paikea said as he prepared the shields for the upcoming battle. "Hey Katie are you ready for this?" Paikea asked as he saw her preparing the tactical station. <Tag Katie>

"Hey what do you want to eat?"Paikea asked Katie, " there isn't much choice."
"What are you going to have?" Katie asked.
"Turkey sandwich I think." Paikea replied.
"Then could I please have one also?" Katie asked with a large smile.
"Of course." Replied Paikea.
Paikea came back to the control moments later with two sandwiches. Handing one to Katie Paikea took him seat at the controls. Just as Katie was about to take her first bite alarms started going off all around the shuttle.
"Katie take your station, prepare for battle," Paikea said as he read the sensors. A Federation vessel was being pursued by a Romulan warbird.
Katie pushed her sandwich away and began looking over her station, checking all the defensive systems.
"Hey Katie are you ready for this?" Paikea asked as he saw her preparing the tactical station.
"Everything checks out here. I'm ready when you are." Katie replied.

"Everything checks out here. I'm ready when you are." Katie replied.
That was good to here, Paikea thought as he read what the Scavenger was sending them. The Romulan warbird was clearly more powerful than the shuttle, in a matter of fact most ships were more powerful than Federation shuttles.
"Hey Katie are you reading the specs that the Scavenger is sending us?" Paikea asked as he turned his chair to face her.
<Tag Katie>
He hoped that they were because if they didn't have luck they would never serve on the Scavenger because they would be space dust.

"Hey Katie are you reading the specs that the Scavenger is sending us?" Paikea asked as he turned his chair to face her.
"I'm sorry Pai, but i have been trying to increase the amount of hits our shields can take just in case we get fired upon." Katie replied.
Katie took a second to look over the transmission send to their shuttle from the Scavenger. Katie's mind was going a million miles an hour and couldn't understand what Paikea wanted her to understand about them.
"What about them?" Katie asked a bit confused?

"What about them?" Katie asked a bit confused?
"The Scavenger has sent us the information they have on the ship that is pursuing them," Paikea said as he sped the shuttle so they could get to the Scavenger at a quicker rate.
"I don't see how these specs are going to help us. The phasers on this shuttle wouldn't make a scratch against a warbirds shields."
"I think you better get us aboard the Scavanger as quickly as you can!" Katie said a bit more excited.
"Katie I would normally agree, but the Scavenger alone is no match for it either, if there are two ships attacking at the same time the Scavenger may have time to get a direct hit on the ship," Paikea said hoping that Katie would agree.
Katie looked at the tactical layout of the shuttle and made a face. She didn't like the odds of a shuttle flying about firing at a warbird, especially a shuttle with her riding shotgun in.
"Katie I know we barely have a chance, but we have to try, the Imperial is hours away and...." Paikea started to say, but the ship beeped at him, the Scavenger would be in range in a matter of minutes.
"Pai, if you insist on taking on a warbird in this shuttle I'm going to be forced to take over the controls!" Katie screamed.
"Okay Katie once we get in range I'll transport you the Scavenger," Pai speaking after a few seconds of silence," I will stay behind in the shuttle and coordinate the attack with the Scavenger."
"Paikea! Don't be foolish. That warbird could easliy destroy this shuttle with a single torpedo." Katie said trying to talk sense into Paikea.Katie could see it was a suicide mission but why couldn't Paikea?
"How well do you know Romulan systems?" Katie finally asked finally asked after a moment of silence.
"Katie I'm not going to attack head on," Paikea said explaining his plan," I don't think the war bird knows that we are this close. We will have the advantage of surprise."
"Surprise or not once we fire they will know we are here!" Katie said still trying to get the idea out of Paikea's head.
"Katie I don't want to die you know that," Paikea said,"I got some good reasons to live, but we are first Starfleet officers and we have an oath to protect are fellow officers."
"Pai! Protect the Scavanger from that! Maybe if we happened to grow from a shuttle into a Galaxy class starship, but I don't see that happening right now."
"I see your point," Pai said realizing that he couldn't risk Katie's life. He wouldn't let anything happen to her, so he would do this alone. "Katie the Scavenger and the Warbird are in weapons range in thirty seconds."
"Pai, how much do you know about Romulan systems?" Katie asked again.
"I know them really well," Paikea said realizing that he hadn't told Katie that he had been aboard a Romulan Warbird before.
"I have an idea that might work!"Katie said trying to get Paikea's attention.
"We need to trade seats though. What you need to do is find a way to create a ghost warp signature of a few Federation ships enteringm the system. This way they will figure out they are out numbered and retreat."
"Katie there is one problem in that logic, they might be a bit frightened about the battle, but Romulans won't retreat," Paikea said as he started to implement the first stage of Katie's plan.
"Katie lets trade seats," Paikea said as he stood up and headed towards where she was sitting.
"Romulan's arn't like Klingons, when they see they are out numbered and don't have a 100% chance of winning they tend to retreat. Atleast that what they told us in Sociology." Katie said.
"Yeah they told me the same thing, but look at the specs the Scav sent us," Paikea said," the Warbird is old, really old. I don't think these Romulans are part of the Empire, I think these are rogues."
Katie had pulled a sly trick by changing seats with Paikea, now she was piloting the ship and plotting in a course to jump to warp and match the speed of the Scavenger so they could quickly dock.
Off: This is a Jp between Katie and Myself. We will finish it later, we have some special plans for the Rommies.

Illito turned from the patient she had been working on, the patient that she could no longer help, that she would never be able to help again. She knew that she had saved many other patients today, and that she had done the best that she could have done on the patient, but it always hurt to know that even that hadn’t been enough.
She shook her head briefly, trying to shake off the tears that she had already suppressed. If sickbay had gradually emptied as the Scavenger sped away from the Romulan ship and didn’t sustain any further damage, it wasn’t empty enough yet. She glanced back at the body, which was covered in a thick brown cloth, and realized that she wasn’t ready yet to return to surgery. She had experienced people working for her, they could manage just now, it was better than risk the chance of her making a mistake. Besides, she had to tell her former patient’s family, and she should do that as soon as she could.
Ta’ariqe Keryt. Male. Arbazan. Illito stepped into her office, knowing, or at least hoping, that she would be told if there was an emergency. 38. Married, no children. Illito read the details quickly, not knowing why she felt that she had an obligation to know this man, but that she had to try to fulfill her obligation, even if it was self-imposed. His wife is Sagira, who lives on Arbazan, and is a member of law enforcement on that planet. Illito wasn’t sure if the fact that his wife lived off the ship, which meant that her message had to be sent be sub-space, and might end up seeming impersonal, was a good thing or a bad thing, but she was fairly certain that she would have preferred to be able to talk to Sagira personally.
“Computer, begin recording. I regret to inform you that your husband died at 15.00 today. He was injured during an attack on the ship, and the medical staff’s best efforts were not enough to save him. I admit that I did not know your husband much, but in all of his encounters with people around the ship, including but not limited to me, he was devoted to making others smile or laugh.” Illito smiled sadly here, although she could not remember anything specific that Ensign Keryt had done, there had been a general cheerfulness about the man, an approachability, as if he was just waiting to talk to you specifically. “I am thinking of you and send my heartfelt condolences. If there is anything else you would like to know about the events of your husband’s death, or if there is anything else I can do for you, do not hesitate to contact me. With sympathy, may your memories of your husband give you comfort. End recording. Send to Sagira Keryt, of Arbazan.” Illito finished, then glanced at the biography of the man one more time. The biography that fit what she knew of the person so well. Turned down promotion to Lieutenant eight times.

Off: This is a joint post between myself and Paikea.
Katie quickly plotted the course she had planned into the computer as Paikea was working hard on attempting to make a warp ghost appear close to the Scavenger.
"How is it coming Pai?" Katie asked.
The USS Pink Kitty an old Danube class shuttle was not much in the way of firepower, but they had proved themselves in the Dominion War. So Paikea was sure that this ship would be no different
"I'm almost certain that we can show some sensor ghost, but..." Paikea started to say, but stopped once he saw the war bird fire on the Scavenger.
"Katie evasive manuevers," Paikea said as he sent out the sensor ghost. "Get us as close as you can."
"I think we are close enough Pai." Katie said
That was all Paikea was waiting for and then he released the trigger and the Pink Kitty fired at will. The Romulan Warbird made a 180 almost instantly so it didn't take direct damage.
“What the hell are you doing?!” Katie screamed.
"This is the USS Kitty, you have fired upon a Federation vessel, we demand that you turn back now," Paikea said hoping that would give the Scavenger enough time to help them out.
"I'm trying to make them retreat," Paikea answered Katie as he fired again and hit his mark.
"That's not going to make them retreat." Katie said.
Just as Katie finished her sentence the war bird opened fire on the shuttle sending disruptor beams and torpedoes slicing through space nearly hitting the small shuttlecraft. The Scavenger luckily had followed thier example and fired upon the ship, the orange glow of phasers and photon torpedoes lit up space. The glow was magnificent, but it didn't create any major damage to the war bird.
"Pink Kitty come into our shuttle bay, you are not safe, I repeat come into our shuttle..." Commodore TMar said, but was stopped as the war bird fired its weapons on the Scavenger and the shuttle. This time her weapons hit the shuttle and both Katie and Paikea fell out of their stations.
"Are you alright?" Paikea asked Katie.
"Yeah I think I'm fine."
The two sat quickly back into their seats and watched as the Scavanger kept running away from the war bird. Katie and Paikea looked at each other and realized their shuttlecraft was no longer moving.
"We’ve lost impulse engines." Katie said.
"Scavenger we know longer have engines, we need to be teleported off the shuttle," Paikea said before the war bird fired once again on the shuttle. The shuttle shook violently and claxons went off. "Hull breach in three minutes. Hull breach in three minutes."
Paikea was scared, but he didn't want to show it. It seemed that everywhere he went something bad happened.
"Pai, there're not going to come back for us." Katie said looking Paikea in his eyes.
Paikea didn't want to say it, but he knew it was true, the Scavenger had been hit directly and if they came back for them they would be destroyed.
"I know Katie," Paikea said as he kept his eyes on hers.
"Hull breach in two minutes."
Katie watched as the war bird turned directly in front of the shuttle to face them. Looking at the controls she noticed the war bird was powering its weapons systems up to destroy the shuttle. Looking at Paikea Katie couldn't seem to find the words. Just as she saw the bright green glow come from the war bird she found herself and Paikea surrounded by an odd green glow. Moments later they were surrounded by armed Romulans.
Paikea quickly knew what had just happened. He didn't expect for it to happen but here they were, prisoners of war.
"I am Lt. Junior Grade Paikea Apirana, USS Scavenger, Serial Number 211007," Paikea said remembering that they still had to follow protocol
Paikea decided that he would try to be bold and so he asked. "Why were you firing upon the..." but before he could finish the closest Romulan hit Paikea in the stomach and then over his head with the bunt of his weapon.
Katie remained silent, watching as the Romulan guard struck Paikea. Katie stood shaking with fear of what would happen to them in the hands of these Romulans. This was the first time she had ever seen a Romulan face to face and the sight sent chills down her back as she remembered all the stories she heard back at the Academy.

OOC: I hope no one minds, but it seems that we should have a senior staff meeting. Again, I apologize if I’m stepping on anyone’s toes, or something similar.
Illito was trying to stay busy enough, so she wouldn’t remember Ta’ariqe, but it was hard not to feel like she had failed him. She had never lost a patient before, and she felt responsible for his death.
Flashback: Cido, Illito’s brother, had glanced up, only a little more surprised by his 15 year-old sister’s statement than she herself had been, but Illito had surprised herself quite a bit.
“You want to join Starfleet?” he had repeated back to her, gently. “To help save people’s lives?”
Illito had nodded. “I want to be a doctor,” she had confirmed.
“Can’t you be a doctor on Cardassia?” he brother had asked, not pleading, merely curious and a tiny bit offended that his sister didn’t share his love for their homeworld. “Our planet could use your help. Much more than the Federation can.”
“But I can help more with the Federation. The medical technology will be better. I won’t have to watch people die, and know that there was nothing I could do to save them. It would be frustrating.” Illito didn’t add that it would be equally frustrating to be confined to Cardassia. She wanted to visit other worlds, and Cido knew that, so she didn’t feel the need to explain it.
“It’s going to be frustrating anyway. Even with the best medical technology, sometimes people die. And it won’t be your fault, and it won’t even be the fault of the equipment you were working with, it just happens.”
“I know,” replied Illito. “But I think I can do it,” Illito said, meaning that she thought she could handle the strain.
“I know you can,” Cido had said, supporting her in her decision, even though he wasn’t sure what to think of it.
Illito finished running the dermal regenerator over the hand of a wound patient; even though her thoughts had wandered a bit, her mind had been mostly on the patient. Besides, she could do a lot of this in her sleep, though she had no intention of trying that.
=^=Senior Officer's report to the briefing room in ten minutes=^= Illito heard over her commbadge. She finished up her patient, left the few remaining minor injuries to her staff, and headed to the briefing room, arriving there a little early.
OOC: I was thinking that since the ship is crippled, all we are really doing is fleeing, so we should probably have a staff meeting to discuss the situation. But if it’s a problem, I can remove my post, or modify it.

The briefing was cut short when the bridge reported the Romulans were gaining on them as a problem in engineering was slowing the Scavenger down. They had been discussing tactics. Commander Cavit had found out the warbird was quite an old class and had done a quick check on the ship's structural weaknesses. Her idea was if the cloak generator was destroyed, the shields would also be compromised since the systems were connected. Then the officer left in charge of engineering reported a problem and that they had to slow down. He would be able to fix the problem in time before the Romulans would arrive.
Back on the bridge, the shuttle with the new crewmembers dropped out of warp and engaged the Romulan ship. T'Mar wondered what they were doing. "T'Mar to shuttle Pink Kitty, what do you think you're doing? Dock with the Scavenger immediately!" Lieutenants Paikea and Anderson replied they were on their way. But T'Mar ordered to get a transporterlock on the two but they were not in range soon enough. The Romulans got to them first and beamed them off the shuttle. "Damn!" Cavit said. "Now we have to rescue them too!" "And we have more on our hands than two captured crewmembers. Open a frequency to the Romulan ship!" This time the Romulans answered. "This is commander Koreth. So you've stopped running. This is our space. The system you were in is in our territory! Any trespassers will be destroyed!" T'Mar went into diplomatic mode. "Well commander Koreth, we were unaware this system is part of Romulan space. We will leave at once and never come back again. But we would like to have our crewmembers back." "We are not part of the great Romulan Empire. This territory is our own and you will leave now!" T'Mar did not intend to leave Paikea and Anderson with the Romulans. But the rogue Romulans should be sorted out by the Romulan authorities and the Federation's since the rogues were claiming a part of Federation controlled space. But getting her crewmembers back, was first priority. A bridge officer reported that sensors were picking up more ships, Starfleet. It meant that the message had gotten out. She turned to the Romulan on the viewscreen. "You are mistaken Koreth. This sector is Federation! I suggest you leave our space, cross the Neutral Zone and go home! Our reinforcements are underway and I suggest you follow my advise. But first beam over my crewmembers."

Paikea spit out the blood that was in his mouth as he started to get up. It was unusual for him to feel so helpless, but here he was unable to do anything to change thier situation.
"You will not speak human," a Romulan said as he got closer to them. "I am Koreth the Commander of this ship and sector. You have tresspassed onto our space and you are now an enemy."
"We are not at war with the Romulan Empire," Paikea said as he once again spit out blood, but this time it was unintenional. That statement caused all the Romulans on the bridge to start laughing.
"You pathetic child, we are not part of the high and mighty Romulan Star Empire," Koreth said," we are...."
"Commander, the Federation ship is hailing us," another Romulan said. Paikea gave a quiet sigh of relief, the Scavenger was still intact and they had a chance to escape.
Paikea saw who he now knew to be Commodore TMar speak with Koreth. Koreth gave the impression of a powerful king, but as Paikea looked around it was anything but a King's ship. It was old, probably as old as an Excelsior, but he wasn't sure. The words between Koreth and the Commodore went on and on until the Commordore told him.
"You are mistaken Koreth. This sector is Federation! I suggest you leave our space, cross the Neutral Zone and go home! Our reinforcements are underway and I suggest you follow my advise. But first beam over my crewmembers."
Paikea expected them to be transported, but that didn't happen.
"Look Commodore is it, I have called the rest of my ships to my location, we cannot allow you to report this to the Federation or the Romulan Empire," Koreth said, " by the way if we don't make it back to our planet the crewmembers that you left behind will be executed."
At that the communication was cut and Koreth looked at Paikea and Katie.
"Good night." At that moment Paikea and Katie were both shot with their own phasers. Luckily they were set to stun only.

“Bridge to Commander Tintagel, we have a variety of medical conditions here that require your attention.”
Illito nodded. “Understood, I’ll be right there.” It seemed like she had just left the bridge. She grabbed her medkit, then after a short word with her current second-in-command, she stepped out of sickbay. The person who had contacted her hadn’t said it was an emergency, but she didn’t want to take chances. But even an emergency transport would take time, sickbay wasn’t far from the bridge, so Illito decided to simply take the turbolift quickly to deck one.
As soon as she entered the bridge, Illito realized the situation was a series of minor injuries that no one wanted to go to sickbay for, they probably didn’t think it would have been worth it. Still, they were major enough to need treatment, but most of them, Illito thought, would be able to go back to duty almost immediately. She focused on the more major injuries first, and had to send one officer down to sickbay, but the rest of the injuries were minor enough.
Illito knew enough to stay quiet, and out of the officers’ way. A bridge officer reported that sensors were picking up Starfleet backup. “Look Commodore is it,” the Romulan replied, “I have called the rest of my ships to my location, we cannot allow you to report this to the Federation or the Romulan Empire. By the way if we don't make it back to our planet the crewmembers that you left behind will be executed." The view screen ended.
Illito frowned, the logic there didn’t make sense, since the Federation ships were already on approach, Commodore T’Mar had obviously already contacted them. But then, Romulans weren’t exactly known for their logic, and Illito suspected that rogue Romulans even less so.
“Commodore, the Starfleet vessels are in close enough range that the Romulans should be able to detect them,” a bridge officer reported.
“The Romulans are hailing us.”
<Tag whoever thinks they can/want to respond…anyone on the bridge, or Katie and Paikea, if the stunning has worn off.>

"Any shadows on sensors?" T'Mar asked the officer at tactical. "None sir, with ships this old we could detect them easily even while cloaked. This Romulan ship hasn't been upgraded much over the years" the officer replied. "Then we're done talking!" T'Mar said. The other Starfleet ships had arrived. T'Mar ordered to fire and the others followed suit. They aimed at the weapons arrays and engines to cripple the warbird. But the Romulan did not give up easily and barely evaded a well aimed shot at the shield emitter. But Starfleet was with much greater numbers and the Romulan clearly had been posturing. T'Mar saw Dr Tintagel treating the wounded on the bridge. "Dr, any seriously injured?" "A few cracked ribs and I've sent one down to sickbay. They'll all recover, if we survive this battle that is." "Well the Romulan commander has probably been exaggerating the number of ships he commands" T'Mar said. The Romulan turned towards Scavenger. "Evade to the left and target the disruptorarray!" They had the Romulan surrounded but T'Mar still kept expecting more Romulans to show up at any time now. Not that it was likely but one never knew. If that many ships had left the Romulan Empire to become rogue, the Romulans would have warned Stafleet about it. Such rogues would threaten the fragile peace between the Romulans and the Federation. "The Romulan's shields are down!" the tactical officer reported. "Lock on to Paikea and Anderson and beam them aboard! Doctor, report to the transporterroom!" T'Mar bellowed.

"Doctor, report to the transporter room!" T'Mar bellowed.
Illito had already tapped her commbadge. “Emergency medical transport to transporter room 1,” she ordered quickly, then dematerialized and rematerialized in transporter bay one, off the pad though, because Katie and Paikea materialized very soon after. They both collapsed, and Illito ran up to them. “Emergency transport to sickbay, three to beam there,” she said, and all three materialized in sickbay. Once there, Illito was relieved to find that they were only unconscious because they had been stunned, and apart from minor bruising, the new crewmembers were fine.
She healed the bruising and revived them, and smiled as they sat up slowly, she felt a slight urge to tell them to take it easy, but she realized that sitting up wasn’t likely to cause further damage.
“Welcome to the Scavenger,” she said. “I’m Dr. Tintagel.” Illito then smiled again. “I’ve seen many people try to get out of going to sickbay, but I think being captured by the Romulans would have to be the most creative evidence. Most people settle for saying they’re too busy. Of course, as you can see, neither works.” Illito hoped the new officers knew that she was joking.

Katie began to start coming around as the war bird began to take damage. Sitting up she found herself lying on the floor of a holding cell. Looking around she spotted Paikea just a few feet from here still unconscious from the disruptor blast they took. Standing up Katie was throwing forward toward the force field protected entrance by an explosion behind her. Katie screamed as she worried she was going to be seriously injured by the force field, but to her surprise there was no force field and Katie fell all the way through onto the hard cold ground outside the cell.
“Pai!” Katie yelled.
Paikea was getting to his feet just as Katie raced over to assist Paikea putting one of his arms over her shoulders. Two Romulan guards came running into the brig with disruptors in hand, seeing that these two Starfleet officers were active and partly responsible for the new condition of their war bird they took aim. Katie closed her eyes and grimaced waiting for the awful burning that came after being shot by a disruptor. After seconds of silence Katie opened her eyes slowly and found herself on board a Federation starship with a doctor looking on as they rematerialized. Katie fainted with relief, dropping Paikea and slowly dropping on top of him.
Katie opened her eyes to see a Federation doctor looking over her holding a medical instrument over the burns she had received on her belly from the blast earlier. Katie tried to pick herself up but was lightly pushed back down by one of the nurses.
Katie smiled nervously, this was the second time in a month that she had been in sickbay against her will. Her heart began to race after the nurse gently forced her back down on the bed until the doctor was done. Katie’s eyes darted around trying to make sure she was really on a Federation ship and this was not just a Romulan trick. Katie watched as Paikea walked up next to the doctor and whispered something into her ears, the doctor smiled a bit and shook her head as she understood what Paikea was saying.
“It’s going to be ok.” The doctor said with a reassuring smile.
Moments later Katie was back on her feet, slipping her now burned yellow undershirt on. Picking up her jacket Katie thanked the doctor and joined Paikea outside in the corridor. There was a thickness to the air as Katie and Paikea walked to the nearest turbo lift. Nothing was said on the trip up to the bridge and Katie hoped Paikea knew why. Katie walked onto the bridge and made her way to her new Captain.
“Lieutenant Junior Grade Katie Anderson reporting in ma’am.” Katie said.

Paikea was moaning in pain as his body started to react to the ships violent shaking, Paikea knew that the Scavenger had turned the tables on the warbird and was now attacking it with full force. This realization brought Paikea's mind into full force and he worked hard to try and get up from the ground, but it was to no avail.
“Pai!” Katie yelled.
When Paikea heard Katie's voice his body reacted and everything seemed to work and he got up and went to help her, even though he was still in tremondous pain. Paikea was grateful when Katie took him in her arms and tried to support him to try and escape, but two Romulan guards quickly came into view. Both of them sneered as they raised their disruptors. Paikea was sure that he would be dead in a few seconds, but he instantly felt the familiar feeling of a transporter. Other than that Paikea didn't know anything because he was out cold. Paikea thought that he had heard someone say emergency transport, but he could not be sure.
Paikea didn't know how long he was out, but once he opened his eyes he was glad that he didn't feel any real pain, just a twitch in his back.
"Hello Doctor Illito, I'm Lt. Junior Grade Paikea, but you can just call me Pai," Paikea said quickly going back to his charming roots. The doctor's message was kind of strange, but Paikea took it to just meeting them two.
Paikea just waited in the turbolift for some reason thinking of what had happened to both of them in these last few hours. They could both be dead and Paikea knew that the experiences that both of them endured were his fault. Hopefully she can forgive me Paikea said as he walked onto the bridge.
" Lt. Junior Grade Paikea your new Chief Science Officer reporting in for duty," Paikea said as he forced himself to smile.

"Welcome aboard Lieutenants" T'Mar replied. The battle was over and the Starfleet vessels were moving in to take control of the warbird. "Please man your stations. We're returning to the planet to retrieve our remaining crew. I do not think the Romulans shall trouble us again. Commander Cavit nodded. "Our analysis there is about finished. Problem: we haven't had any contact with commander Dunsmore for a while, even before the Romulans showed up." "I haven't had contact with him either for some time. Organize a search party and beam down once we get there. I think it's best you disguise yourselves to be certain you won't startle any of the inhabitants." Cavit nodded smiling. "I think it's a beautiful planet, too bad we can't readily take a vacation there. Prime Directive issues and such." "Well there are plenty of planets to go to for a vacation. I have noticed some crewmembers are already planning their activities for Christmas. I find this curious." "It seems Christmas requires a lot of planning and preparations" Cavit said. "It's a holiday when people come together and have elaborate dinners, like having your own private luxurious restaurant for a day." T'Mar raised an eyebrow. "I can see why people go through so much trouble the last days before Christmas to achieve perfection at their cooking skills. But we'll have to endure the fifth of december as well. Then the crewmembers of Dutch origin put on their St. Nicolas masquerade. I have always been a good girl however, I do not like the candy I get thrust in my hands every time." Cavit grinned. "Candy? Sounds good." "Well, last year they devised a spacesuit for the horse and they went for a ride on the roof of my ship. I never authorized that. Then we got a distress call and we had to get that horse off the roof in a hurry. The animal wasn't happy being handled in a hurry." A short while later T'Mar invited Paikea and Katie Anderson to her readyroom and first began a speech. "What did you think you were doing attacking that warbird? I can't have my crewmembers take such rash and unthought action! Your orders were to dock the shuttle here and report to me!" "Well, we did do the last bit, report to you sir" Paikea replied. "We meant to create a strategic advantage sir." "But I'm sure your strategy did not involve being captured and tortured, did it?" T'Mar purposely showed them anger to make her message all to clear to these new crewmembers. "You're lucky to have survived and be here to serve. I expect you to follow orders is that clear Lieutenants!?" "Yessir!" they answered in unison. "Well then, welcome aboard Lieutenants Paikea and Anderson. It's good to have you aboard." They both smiled that they had survived the commodores' speech. "Now, attend to your duties. Dismissed" T'Mar said.

OOC: I think that disguise would require rudimentary surgery but don’t worry, no one will be in sickbay for long.
Illito was surprised when Commander Cavit entered sickbay, accompanied by a couple other people. After the commander explained that they were going to be the search party for Commander Dunsmore, Illito understood. While the search party did not expect to be in extensive contact with the natives, they didn’t want to startle them unnecessarily.
Because they weren’t likely to be staying on the planet’s surface as long as the Captain and Lieutenant McLeod had been, Illito needed to do significantly less work on them, and was quickly finished. “Good luck,” she said as they left, aware that they knew only a little about the situation than she did; no one really knew if Luke was in serious danger or not.
After they had left, Illito continued work in sickbay.

"Please man your stations. We're returning to the planet to retrieve our remaining crew. I do not think the Romulans shall trouble us again.
Paikea had to agree, but to be honest he thought that they had gotten off to easy. He knew that he had not followed the Commordore's orders to the letter and that had gotten both himself and Katie captured and tortured. Paikea stopped thinking this realizing that he was lucky that he had gotten off clean.
So Paikea gave Katie a smile and saw the bridge that he would now be working out of. It was beautiful bridge that closely resembled that of a Nova class ship. Which to be honest were one of his favorites. Paikea slowly walked towards what he knew was his science station and relieved the crewman on duty.
Paikea started his ritual and with his hands he felt every crevise and button at his station. He wanted to know his station like the back of his hand. Paikea's action seemed to get people's attention on the bridge, but he didn't care this was what he needed to do.
A short while later T'Mar invited Paikea and Katie Anderson to her readyroom and first began a speech.
Paikea automatically knew what was coming up. They weren't as lucky as he thought. Paikea slowly walked towards the Captain's ready room, knowing full well what was about to happen.
"What did you think you were doing attacking that warbird? I can't have my crewmembers take such rash and unthought action! Your orders were to dock the shuttle here and report to me!"

As they did an about face, Paikea smiled at Katie, but Paikea was surprised when she did not. In fact she seemed angry with Paikea and why wouldn't she, he had risked thier lives and it could of all been prevented if he had listened to Katie.
"Katie I'm sorry for what happened," Paikea said as he walked back to his station

Katie was surprised the Commodore didn’t make an example of them right in front of the entire bridge crew. Since being brought back aboard a Federation starship Katie had an ever-growing feeling of disgust toward the man she had fallen so hard for.
Katie found the operations station and quietly relieved the junior officer who had been at the station before her. As she had remembered from her training mission Katie began to look over all the ships systems for any problems before running low level scans to back up the computers results.
It wasn’t long before the Commodore called Paikea and Katie in her ready room to give them the earful Paikea had deserved. During the few minutes the Commodore was talking Katie held her tongue and took equal responsibility for what had happened. Katie found herself eyeing Paikea as the Commodore was speaking; she felt anger that she was being disciplined for actions that weren’t even hers.
"Well then, welcome aboard Lieutenants Paikea and Anderson. It's good to have you aboard."
They both smiled that they had survived the Commodore's speech. "Now, attend to your duties. Dismissed" T'Mar said.

"Katie I'm sorry for what happened," Paikea said as he walked back to his station.
“I don’t want to talk about it right now, as a matter of fact I really don’t want to talk to you right now.” Katie said coldly.

“I don’t want to talk about it right now, as a matter of fact I really don’t want to talk to you right now.” Katie said coldly.
Katie's words stung like salt in an open wound, but Paikea knew that he deserved everything that he got from her. Paikea decided that it would be worse if he continued to think about it and decided to work instead.
Unfortunatley for Paikea there wasn't much that he could do. Science right now was not the priority of the ship. The priority was on the repairs that the warbird had caused. So Paikea just sat there running some non important scans and studied the interaction of the bridge crew of the Scanvenger.
Commordore T'Mar and Commander Cavit were having a private conversation and everyone else was working hard at their station. After finishing there conversation the Commander left the bridge.
"Helm how long until we reach the planet?" Commodore T'Mar asked of the helms officer.
"17 hours and 49 minutes," the officer responded. Well lucky for my shift ends in five hours Paikea thought.
Hours later
Paikea was in his quarter's arranging all of his clothes and personal affects to his liking. He had quickly finished putting up his clothes, but his personal stuff was another matter. He of course put up the picture of his parents, his uncle, and of him when he was 12 and had just won the Junior Earth Martial Arts Championship.
Paikea had also decided to add the picture of his graduating class. There had been numerous cadets, but he felt a close relationship to three of them. The picture was of course of Cyle, William, himself, and Katie. They had just graduated and he was sure most of them were drunk, well everyone excet Katie. Still it was probably the best day of his life in about two years.
He had already finsihed his letter to Cyle on the Nevada and all that was left was the letter for William.
Computer start Personal message to William Hunter, on the USS Jefferson Stardate 2391.1109
Dear William I hope this message finds you well and I also hope that your enjoying your new assignment. I recommend that you get to meet Commander Reynolds, he's cool."
=^=Computer halt recording=^=
To be honest at the moment Paikea didn't really want to talk about his feelings. Doctor Illito had told him that he was in a perfect bill of health, but Paikea was having some flashes of the time he had spent on the Romulan ship. It was not a long time, but without much to do Paikea's mind kept going to that place.
In fact Paikea was starting to sweat and he felt very uncomfortable.
"Computer lower room temperature to 65 degrees" The chime of the computer let Paikea know that his request had been done and he quickly felt the room cool down. Yet it didn't stop and Paikea decided to get into some regular clothes, which usually was much cooler than the standard Starfleet uniform.
The change of clothes helped a little, but not by much and to make things stranger for Paikea he felt really hungry, even though he had eaten a couple of hours ago.
"Computer replicate a turkey sandwich with mayo and two servings of onion," Paikea said," also replicate cold cranberry juice." One of the wierdest things about Paikea's likes was the fact the loved raw onion. Yes he knew it was strange, but hey he liked it.
After finishing his snack Paikea put the plate back into the replicator and recycled everything that he hadn't eaten. Feeling a bit better Paikea decided that it was time to finish his letter to William.
"Computer resu..." Paikea almost finished saying the command, but his door rang. Paikea cursed and walked to the door, he was feeling a bit better, but his sweating still had not stopped. When he opened the door he was surprised to see who it was.
"It's you."
