Katie spent the next several hours working at her station and attending to her duties trying not to think about Paikea and the mess he had made on the shuttlecraft. The harder Katie tried to forget the events the more she was replaying them in her head. It was driving her insane.
Several hours had passed and another officer tapped Katie on the shoulder. She turned around and was face to face with a handsome crewman. He was a few years older than Katie with light blonde air and bright blue eyes.
“It’s my shift ma’am.” He said.
“Uh…oh! Thanks for letting me know.” Katie replied.
“You must be our new Chief Operations Officer, my name is Crewman Mike Daniels.” He said.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you Mike, I mean, crewman.”
Mike laughed a little and Katie laughed along with him nervously.
“You can call me Mike if you want ma’am.” Mike replied.
“I will tell you what, I’ll call you Mike if you please never call me ma’am ever again. Deal?” Katie said.
“Deal. So what should I call you then Lieutenant?” Mike asked.
“Not that. You can call me Katie if you like.” Katie said smiling.
“Then it’s nice to meet you Katie, have a good night.” Mike said.
“You too.” Katie said.
Walking off the bridge Katie noticed that Paikea had already left for the night. She had overheard the ship wasn’t going to be arriving back to the planet for almost another twelve hours. Katie figured she would take this time off to get herself oriented with the ship.
Walking the ship sent tingles through out Katie’s body, she was more than excited to be here and it showed. She was happy it was now the night shift because she would have felt embarrassed if this was during normal duty hours when most of the crew could see her walking the ship as lost as can be.
Katie finally managed to find her way to her quarters. Walking in she remembered that her belongings had been destroyed in the shuttlecraft making her unpacking done in a matter of seconds. Looking through the closest Katie found spare uniforms, boots, and a few civilian clothes probably left behind from the last person who occupied the room. Pulling out the civilian clothes Katie noticed the spare shirts and pants were all men’s clothing.
“Not going to fit me.” Katie said out loud.
There wasn’t much else to do for Katie, nothing to unpack and she certainly wasn’t in the mood to go see Paikea. His actions on the shuttle were something she would have to learn to live with, but not right now.
“Computer, play classical music, Beethoven.”
Katie slipped off her boots before lying on her new bed trying to relax after a more than typical day. As Katie rested on her bed she unzipped her shirt and swung it open letting the cool air in the room touch her midsection. Katie found this ship hotter than the few other places she had served on.
“Computer what is the current temperature in this room?” Katie asked.
“68 degrees fahrenheit.” The computer replied.
“Please lower temperature to 63 degrees.”
The computer chimed and instantly Katie could feel the cool breeze begin to fill the room. Lying on the bed she felt herself starting to drift off to sleep, she didn’t fight it.

"Its you," Paikea said hoping that it wold be Katie, but it when the door opened there was no one there. He was sure that he had heard the door chime, but there was no one at his door.
"Computer who was the last person to come to the door."
"The last person to come to the door was Lt. Junior Grde Paikea." That didn't make sense, Paikea could of sworn that he had heard the door chime for entrance.
"Get a hold of your self Pai, it was no one," Paikea said outloud hoping that it would calm him down. So Paikea went back to what he was doing.
"Computer resume recording"
"As I was saying talk to Matt, he will be more than happy to help you. On another note keep safe and don't get yourself killed okay.
"Computer Send message to the USS Jefferson"
Matt knew that he ended the letter akwardly, but he wasn't feeling all to well. Yet there was something that he had not done yet, it was something that he knew would make him feel better. So Paikea made a v-line to his instrument case and took out his harp. Yes Paikea played the harp since it was custom that all males in his tribe learn how to play this instrument.
"Computer end music"
The music stopped and Paikea got himself ready to play. His fingers seemed to be aching to touch the strings that made the beautiful sound of a harp and once they started to make the music Paikea's stress seamed to vanish into thin air. The music filled his quarters and seeped out into the corridor.
After about three hours of playing, Paikea finally stopped. As soon as he started playing he knew that he had missed this. He hadn't played in almost two years because of the resentment he felt towards his father, but that all disappeared. Paikea placed his harp on its mantle and checked the chronometer. He would be due back on the bridge in 8 hours so he would take this time to sleep.
So after showering and putting on some shorts he headed towards his bed and slept hoping that all his problems would disappear when he woke up.

Illito worked in sickbay until the end of her shift, not losing track of time, but she kept busy. When Avel entered him, he nodded to her. “Any problems during the battle?” he asked.
Illito nodded. “I lost my first patient,” she said, not wanting to share with him how helpless that had made her feel. From the look of sympathy that crossed his face, she didn’t have to. Still, she wasn’t sure the look was for her, Avel had made no secret of how much he disliked his superior officer.
“Do you want to get something to drink?” Avel asked her, surprisingly gently. “I think I can report for sickbay late. I’ll even write my own reprimand.”
Illito shook her head, smiling slightly. “I don’t think that would be necessary,” trying to make sure he knew she wasn’t talking about the drink.
“Let’s go to twelve-forward then?” he suggested. “Get a cup of coffee, or tea,” he suggested.
A little later, after they had both ordered something, Illito turned to Avel. “So, why the sudden niceness?” she asked.
“You’re fairly new to this. You may have leapt through the ranks, but you’re still young, and rather inexperienced. And you just lost your first patient. This is nothing I wouldn’t do for any other person.” Avel paused, ready to continue if Illito didn’t interrupt him.
“But it’s harder to do for me, wasn’t it?” Illito asked.
“Yes,” he admitted. “I’m not going to lie about it. And I’m not going to apologize,” he continued.
After talking to him, speaking some, arguing some, Illito couldn’t say that they were now friends, or understood each other better, but they perhaps they had gained some knowledge. Which is not to say that they agreed on a lot. Still, perhaps they would be able to work together better. Then again, Illito was sure that she didn’t want to spend much time with him, some of his views just seemed…unbelievable. Illito sighed as she walked back to her quarters. Still, talking with Lieutenant Avel had helped some. She wasn’t comfortable that she had lost a patient, but she didn’t feel like it was her fault. At least, not quite as much as she had before.

Katie woke up shivering on top of her bed. She looked around her room and found the lights were still on in her room, she then remembered feeling hot and turning down the temperature in the room before falling asleep. Katie quickly reached over and grabbed her uniform jacket and put it on over the thin tank top style undershirt she was wearing.
“Computer return the temperature back to normal.” Katie said.
Katie listened as the computer shut off the flow of cool air being forced into her quarters. Looking at the clock above her door Katie saw she had only been asleep for a little over a half and hour, but she swore it felt like it was longer.
Katie found herself looking in the empty closet again wishing her bags could’ve been saved from the shuttle. Thinking about her bags and how they were destroyed in the shuttle forced the thoughts about Paikea back into her mind. Katie remembered she had replicated shoes for her date with Paikea from a replicator in her quarters back at the Academy so she headed over to the replicator and began to look through the list of items in the replicator.
“That’s cute.” Katie said to herself.
Katie finished up replicating new clothes for herself instantly happy to have clothes that were her size and not gigantic like the left over men’s uniforms and shirts left in the closet. Walking out of her quarters Katie decided to make her way to the crew lounge to grab a bit to eat and let her mind wonder.
Along the way to the lounge Katie had received several surprised looks from her fellow crewmates, some were even bold enough to approach her as she walked. She had been told the fashions back on Earth were going retro and younger ladies were wearing clothes designed back in the early 2000’s. Katie had replicated a mini skirt made of denim, a pink pull over sweatshirt with a white shirt worn underneath. She had a hard time picking out shoes until she found a pair of white shoes called Vans. Katie had picked these shoes because of the pink logo on the side.
Katie walked into the crew lounge and made her way over to the replicator and ordered herself a small meal from the menu before taking a seat facing the window. She slowly picked at her food as she watched the starts travel past the ship. She thought she had seen the ships doctor, but felt too nervious to stop and thank her for looking after her and Paikea when they were first beamed over from the Romulan ship.

OCC: I know that not much is happening mission wise right now, but I think that its important to establish our characters, well me in particular. I of course don't have any power to enforce this, but I do wish to get to know your characters as well.
On:
Paikea woke up with a start, it had been horrible sensation. The smell of burnt skin was fresh in his memory, the blast of a Romulan phaser seemed to burn his back. Yet it was all a dream. Paikea sat up on his bed dripping sweat. The room felt like a sauna. When Paikea got up from the bed it looked like someone had poured a bucket of water on it.
"Computer lower temperature," Paikea said as he headed to wards the restroom to try and cool down.
"Warning lowering the temperature in the room will start to kill the plant life in this room," the computer responded. This statement surprised Paikea since he was still burning up, so he walked up to the replicator and asked for some hot tea.
"Get a hold of yourself Pai," he told himself as drank his tea. Paikea then checked the chronometer and was disappointed as he saw that he had only slept for thirty minutes.
"I can't go to sleep now," Paikea said to no one. He already knew that he could no longer to go to sleep so he started to do his daily ritual. He started by stretching by doing some Susmana techniques and then by doing five hundred crunches. Paikea long ago discovered that doing crunches was the crudest way to exercise, but it was something that he just had to do.
His exercise routine which took fifteen quickly warmed him up and made him feel well in fact the temperature in the room finally started to feel cold. Which to Pai seemed to indicate that what was wrong with him had passed.
"Computer raise temperature back to normal standards," Paikea said as he headed to wards the shower once again.
While the water ran down his body, the flashes of green light and the putrid smell of burning flesh once again came to him, but this time he was able to control them a bit more. Paikea of course knew what he was seeing, it was his experiences on the Romulan ship.
Paikea not knowing what to do just wept as the water hit his face. Paikea didn't understand why it was effecting him so much. His injuries on the Hepta had not caused this reaction's, but somehow this was different. This time he almost got a crew of hundreds almost killed, his stubbornness almost got a person he cared for killed.
Paikea was now roaming the corridors in his favorite civilian clothes, a pair of 21st century jeans and polo shirt. Paikea was a Starfleet officer, but he always kept up with the fashion on Earth. Paikea was glad to see that the crew of the Scavenger was a bit relaxed because he didn't stand out as he walked to wards the lounge area. People that were not on shift were also wearing civilian clothes, and Paikea got the shock of his life as he saw a Vulcan wearing shorts. He was about to burst out laughing, but he controlled himself.
Paikea had decided to go the lounge, because he didn't want to be alone right now. He wanted to just be surrounded by people. So Paikea entered the lounge and stopped in his tracks because he saw Katie sitting down at a table eating. Paikea was about to turn around but decided that it wouldn't do any good. They both had to get over their fight, but Paikea would let Katie decide when that was.
"Hey guys big round of applause to our newest members of crew, Lt. Apirana and Anderson, who took on a Romulan War bird and survived," a young crewman said as he quieted the room. This was not what Paikea had in mind, but everyone in the room started clapping and cheering at their boldness. If they only knew that Commordore T'Mar had almost officially reprimanded both of them.
"There is no need for that," Paikea said as he sat down at the table farthest away from Katie. Then for the first time since entering the room, Paikea took noticed of what Katie was wearing and Paikea noticed that many of the male and even crewmembers noticed too.
She does look good, Paikea thought as he looked at the stars shimmering in space trying to not just throw caution to the wind and just go talk to her.

“Well, I suppose I should get back to duty,” Avel said. “But I meant everything I said, you should know that. Even the nice things.”
Illito smiled wryly, and watched him leave, then glanced around the lounge for the first time. She noticed Katie sitting, looking out the window. It seemed that the Lieutenant wanted to be left alone though, judging how Katie was steadfastly ignoring most of the people in the room, instead concentrating on the stars.
The majority of people in twelve-forward were wearing Civilian clothing, which was normal. Illito was wearing her Starfleet uniform, which was also normal, for her at least. She had come here right after finishing her shift, and few clothes kept the ever-present cold of the ship out as well as the Starfleet uniform did.
"Hey guys big round of applause to our newest members of crew, Lt. Apirana and Anderson, who took on a Romulan War bird and survived," a young crewman said as he quieted the room. Illito glanced at the door, seeing Paikea coming in. She then looked at Katie, trying to determine what Katie thought of the cheers, but couldn’t tell.
"There is no need for that," Paikea said, as he sat down far away from Katie. Illito glanced at the two of them, then decided that Paikea might be willing to talk to someone, while Katie seemed to be refusing some of the attention she could get, albeit most of the attention would be male, based on the people looking at her.
“Can I sit here?” Illito asked Paikea, gesturing at one of the extra chairs at his table.

OCC: Okay, I was just promoted to a full Lt. but for the remaining time of this mission can I still be a Lt. JG, just to keep things a bit realistic. On:
One thing that always seemed to awe Paikea were the stars. They were his first love and they were always there for him. It was easy for him to get lost in and he usually did.
“Can I sit here?” Illito asked Paikea, gesturing at one of the extra chairs at his table. It took Paikea a while to realize that the doctor was talking to him, but once he did he of course complied with her request.
"Of course doctor," Paikea said as he stood up and waited for her to sit down. One thing that his mom had always taught him was to be a gentleman.
"Thank you Lt." Illito said as she sat down.
Paikea didn't want to sound rude in fact he really wanted to talk to the Doctor, but he had to ask.
"Doctor what can I do for you?"

Illito was amused that Paikea stood while waiting for her to sit, but only smiled. “Thank you Lt.” she said.
“Doctor what can I do for you?” Paikea asked.
Illito looked at him confused. “Well, you can call me Illito, if you want,” she said, smiling. “But apart from that, I don’t need you to do anything for me. I did want to talk a little, but if you’d rather I can leave,” Illito said, since she didn’t want to have been invited to stay just out of politeness.
“No, you can stay,” Paikea said.
“Well I wanted to start by welcoming you to the ship,” Illito said. “I know I tried to do that in sickbay, but you and Katie both seemed distracted then, understandably so.”

OC: Paikea, I like what you're doing. You're establishing your character and creating a new dilemma at the same time. Same goes for Katie. Very good IC: T'Mar was reading Illito's report. One crewmember dead. T'Mar was not pleased about that. Not that it was Illito's fault but it is never good to loose a member of your crew. She finished reading it and put the padd aside. She left her readyroom for her quarters where her husband and daughter were waiting. Her husband had made dinner. He was an adequate cook. As she fed her baby, he told about the things that happened in the lab today. They had spent a lot of time cleaning up after the battle with the Romulans. One of the scientists was carrying a big glas with waste material and spilled it all over the floor as the ship shook. The vulcan was not pleased as they lost time which could have been better spent on research. After dinner, T'Mar went to sickbay to talk to Dr. Tintagel. "Goodevening doctor. I've read your report on Ta’ariqe Keryt. It is all in order" T'Mar said. Illito nodded. "Thankyou sir. I needed some time to get back on my feet from this. I'm not used to loosing patients." T'Mar nodded. "I'm not used on being sneaked on. But these romulans aren't a problem anymore." "I've sent a letter to his family" Illito stacked some padds and tidied them up. "I'm going off duty now. I could use a good night sleep." T'Mar nodded. "Yes, I'm just making a round before I retire to bed myself. It has been a busy day. It is imperative that we find Luke and the other missing people quickly. Nothing has been heard from them yet." "As I understand, they were at the ship. They could have gone inside and ran into something" Illito suggested. "Of course that is the first place where we will look." T'Mar bad her CMO goodnight and checked on engineering and a few other departments and then went to her quarters where she meditated for an hour before going to bed.

OCC: First thanks for the vote of confidence Commodore. I take it as a great compliment and I really hope that I'm doing fine because I really like this ship. ;D
On:
“Well, you can call me Illito, if you want,” she said, smiling. “But apart from that, I don’t need you to do anything for me. I did want to talk a little, but if you’d rather I can leave,” Illito said.
The first thought that came to mind was the fact that she told him to call her by her first name. Not only was she one of his commanding officer's, but she was a lady and he had always been thought that you show respect no matter what.
“No, you can stay,” Paikea said.
“Well I wanted to start by welcoming you to the ship,” Illito said. “I know I tried to do that in sickbay, but you and Katie both seemed distracted then, understandably so.”
"Well thank you Doc...Um...I...mean Illito that is very kind of you," Paikea said hoping that he seemed a bit more cheerful. "and like you said I was a bit distracted by what happened earlier."
"Well you at least got an excuse," Illito said smiling. Paikea gave a soft laugh knowing that it was meant as a joke, but then out of no where the flashback came back to him, but this time it was stronger than before. Paikea's body began to shake slightly and grew in intensity as time went on. By now the doctor had already noticed and there was no way of hiding it.
Paikea's head then launched back in convulsion as the smell of death and charred skin hit his nostrils. The convulsions were so strong that he quickly fell out of his chair and hit the floor still shaking. This had all happen in a matter of seconds and it didn't give anyone any time to react.
The first person to react was the doctor who quickly went to Paikea's side.
"Transporter Room 1 medical emergency teleport myself and Lt. Apirana to sickbay immediately," Illito said as she checked Paikea.

Katie sat quietly eating by herself wishing that she could just stop being mad at Paikea. She had always felt that her relationship with Paikea had started so strong, how could it have ended with one mistake, one problem. Katie dropped her fork and placed her head in her hands trying to shake the feelings of anger and aggression she was feeling.
“All I want to do is go back to feeling how I used to feel about him.” Katie said softly to herself.
Without warning noise began to build up as people were beginning to talk about somebody who had just been beamed out of the crew lounge to sickbay with the doctor. Katie walked down to a group of crewmembers in uniform that were talking about what they saw.
“What happened?” Katie asked.
“Hey your that new operations officer right? What’s your name?” One of the male crewmembers asked.
“Katie. What happened?” Katie asked again.
“Don’t worry about that my sweet, come sit down with us and we can talk.”
Katie was getting frustrated by the constant advances of the enlisted man and decided to put an end to his flirting.
“Listen CREWMAN what happened?” Katie said with some force in her voice.
“Uh, Lieutenant Apirana began shaking and stuff, the doctor beamed him to sickbay.”
Katie’s heart sank as the words rolled off the crewman’s tongue. Katie quickly made her way toward sickbay hoping with every step Paikea would be fine.

Dr. Tintagel had sent a message to T'Mar that Paikea was sent to sickbay in a hurry. T'Mar quickly put on her uniform and walked down to sickbay. Paikea was quieter now. "What's happening to him doctor?" she said as she entered the room. Illito shook her head. "His metabolism is fluctuating enormously. I don't know yet what's causing it. I'm also ordering Lieutenant Anderson to report to sickbay." T'Mar agreed. "Find out what's wrong with them, if it might be a virus, we're all under quarantine!" "They were clear when they left aboard the shuttle. They could have picked something up while aboard that Romulan ship." "I'll be in my quarters if you need me doctor" T'Mar said as she walked over to Paikea. "Make sure you get well youngman!" she told him. Being a CO for a conciderable number of years she had learned to support her crewmembers at any time to keep up morale, even though it seemed illogical to the vulcan. Vulcans would perform their duty without question and only protest if a course of action appeared gravely illogical in their view. "I'll do my best sir" Paikea answered feebly. T'Mar gave him a pat on the shoulder and the young lieutenant seemed to forget the harsh words earlier today. T'Mar walked towards the exit and saw Katie stumble through the door and collapse. The doctor rushed towards her and she and T'Mar carried her onto a bed. "She also appears to be affected. I will not make a general announcement yet, but if more people start fallling ill, I'll order this ship under quarantine."

Illito rematerialized in sickbay with Paikea, then grabbed a medical scanner. Paikea had a fluctuating metabolism, but Illito wasn’t sure what she could do about it. She used an inhibitor field, trying to slow his metabolism, and that helped some with the fluctuation, and it also started to stabilize-a little-on its own.
When the metabolism was no longer fluctuating as wildly, and Paikea had resumed awareness, Illito removed the inhibitor field, it helped some, but not when Paikea was fully aware, then it would just interfere.
“Do you remember what happened right before you came to sickbay?” Illito asked. “What you were thinking of?”
<Tag Paikea>
“Have you experienced these symptoms before?”
<Tag Paikea>
“Dr. Tintagel to Lt. Anderson, please report to sickbay,” Illito said.
<Tag Katie.>
“Thank you,” Illito replied firmly.
“Dr. Tintagel to Commodore T’Mar, Paikea is in sickbay, I though you might want to check it out.”
“I’ll be right there,” Commodore T’Mar said. When she arrived, Illito explained the situation, and the commodore gave Paikea a few words of encouragement.
As T’Mar started to leave, Katie stumbled through the door and collapsed. Commodore T’Mar helped Illito carry Katie onto a bed. “She also appears to be affected. I will not make a general announcement yet, but if more people start falling ill, I'll order this ship under quarantine,” Commodore T’Mar said.
“That would probably be a good idea, but at this point I’m not convinced it’s a virus. But I have to talk to them both more, and run further scans. I’ll keep you updated, or you can stay here,” Illito said. “Since there’s a chance that it’s a virus, I would probably have to call you back down anyway, I should run scans on you, since you’ve talked to them both.”
<Tag T’Mar>
“And I’ll get someone to run a scan on me too,” Illito said. “After I’ve made sure these two will be okay.” Illito turned to Katie. “Do you remember what happened before you collapsed? What were you thinking of?” Illito asked the same questions she had asked Paikea.
<Tag Katie.>
“Has this sort of thing ever happened to you before, either recently or long ago?”
<Tag Katie.>

Paikea didn't know how long he had been incapisitated, but he hoped that it hadn't been for very long. The first thing that Paikea realized was the fact that his abdomen was burning inside. His insides felt as they were fighting to get out. Paikea of course would tell the doctor this because he didn't want to stay here.
“Do you remember what happened right before you came to sickbay?” Illito asked. “What you were thinking of?”
Paikea at first wanted to lie to the doctor but realized that she was there to help him and it would be kept confidential if that was what he wanted.
"Well since I came to the Scavenger I have been having flashes," Paikea said.
"Flashes of what?" Illito said. Paikea then turned to the doctor, hoping that she would realized what it was. For some reason Paikea could not find himself able to talk about his experience on the Romulan war bird. Luckily for Pai it seemed as thought the doctor knew what he was trying to say.
“Have you experienced these symptoms before?”
"No I have never experienced this before," Paikea said," but the attacks were not as strong as this one."
"Strange," Illito said as she started to scan Paikea again. Paikea then remembered what he was doing the moment that the attack came. He had smelled something, it was something that had been burned.
At that very moment Commordore T'Mar walked into sickbay and quickly came to his side. For some reason Paikea felt protected when he was around his supieror officer, she just gave off an auror of caring. It was strange Paikea thought since she was a Vulcan.
"Make sure you get well youngman!" she told him.
"I'll do my best ma'am" Paikea answered a bit feebly.
As T’Mar started to leave, Katie stumbled through the door and collapsed. Commodore T’Mar helped Illito carry Katie onto a bed. Paikea automatically went to help the two women, but the nurse that was scanning him at that time stopped him from moving. Paikea wanted to fight him off, but found that he didn't have any strength to fight him off. When Paikea heard Commodore T'Mar say something about a virus, which worried Paikea. How could they have been infected by the a virus.
Paikea could now only just see Katie being scanned by the doctor. Katie seemed tired, but at least she had not gotten an attack like him. Maybe it wasn't the same thing Paikea said hopefully.
"Lt. Apirana, you should rest," the nurse told him as he once again started to scan him. Paikea of course just ignored him as he had his eyes locked on Doctor Illito and Katie. Paikea could hear the doctor asking Katie the exact same question she had just asked of him a couple of minutes ago.
Paikea wanted to know Katie's answers, but his body had other ideas. All of a sudden Paikea felt as he was shutting down. The only thing he could feel was the burning sensation in his abdomen. He tried to move, but found that he couldn't. When he tried to speak nothing came out.
Paikea's eyes were the last to close and then his mind went blank. The only sign that anything was wrong was the fact that the bio bed's sensors had gone off to signify that Paikea was in danger.

Illito had just finished hearing the response to her questions for Katie, and was ready to move on to the next step, more explanations, when the alarms on Paikea’s bed started to go off. Illito left one of the nurses to try to reassure Katie, and turned to Paikea. “His metabolism is slowing,” the nurse who had been with Paikea said.
“Give me the physiostimulator,” Illito said, taking it from the nurse who had already had it ready, knowing that Illito would need it. “20 ccs of kayolene.” Illito said, and injected it. The beeping stopped, Illito glanced at Paikea, whose eyes were still closed, but who was conscious. “I’m setting up a resonance tissue scan, both on him and on Katie,” Illito explained, to anyone who was listening, including her two patients and the captain. “That may be able to identify if there’s a virus. After that’s done, I’m going to do a neural imaging scan. That might be able to find out something else.” Illito moved quickly, setting up this scans, the recent problems with Paikea adding to her sense of urgency, if that was possible. So far Katie’s symptoms, if they were indeed symptoms of the same problem, seemed fairly unique, and less serious, but Illito knew that that could change in an instant.

“Do you remember what happened before you collapsed? What were you thinking of?”
“I was just running through the hallways trying to get to sickbay as fast as I could when I heard Paikea we rushed here. I remember hitting my foot against the door as it slid open; I think that may have caused me to fall. I honestly don’t think I had been thinking about anything besides Paikea’s safety.” Katie said,
“Has this sort of thing ever happened to you before, either recently or long ago?”
“I have fallen down before.” Katie said sounding confused by the line of questions.
Katie rubbed the back of her head as she tried to think of why she was being asked all these questions. Spotting Paikea across the room Katie began to worry about him even more as noises started to come form his bio bed.
“What’s going on?” Katie asked.
Katie didn’t get an answer as everybody began to focus all their attention on Paikea. It took only a few moments for the doctor to stabilize Paikea from whatever it was that had been effecting him.
“I’m setting up a resonance tissue scan, both on him and on Katie,” Illito explained, to anyone who was listening, including her two patients and the captain. “That may be able to identify if there’s a virus. “Virus? Really, what’s going on here?” Katie asked loudly sounding a bit hysterical.

“It’s okay,” Illito reassured Katie. “We, the Commodore and I, were concerned that some of the symptoms that Paikea had might have been resulting from a virus, but I think, based on what you’ve answered, it’s not. My personal, and professional, opinion, is that Paikea’s main problem is guilt. That, combined with the trauma you both went through…” Illito trailed off, then glanced at Katie.
“Right now he’s fine, and I don’t believe it’s a virus, but anything you can tell me, if you don’t mind, about your capture would probably help.”

“Tell it in whatever order you want to. Or if you don’t feel comfortable talking to me, there are other people around too,” Illito said, offering Katie a chance. Illito knew she wouldn’t be a very good counselor, but this situation seemed to call for more than a small degree of that, and Illito was willing to do whatever was necessary, to do her best. But if Katie felt more comfortable talking to someone else, Illito wouldn’t be offended.

“Also, I’m still going to do the scans, it’s better to be safe, and they may tell us something else important,” Illito said.

Illito turned to Commodore T’Mar. “I really don’t think it’s a virus, so you are free to go, since even if it is a virus, they’ve already talked to a good number of other people. But if you start to feel anything unusual, headaches, visions, please come to sickbay immediately,” Illito said.

"Very well" T'Mar replied. "Fortunately this may not spread throughout the ship. I'll be in my quarters. Call me if there are developments I should be notified of. " T'Mar went back to bed and hoped the two officers would be alright the next morning.

“I don’t remember much at all I’m afraid. Once we were beamed onto the Romulan ship we were quickly stunned. What I do remember a little bit about is being thrown over somebody’s shoulder, I vaguely remember seeing that Paikea was being dragged along the way by his jacket collar. The next thing I really remember is waking up and helping Paikea to his feet just before you beamed us here.”
“Also, I’m still going to do the scans, it’s better to be safe, and they may tell us something else important,” Illito said.
Katie sat silent and still for the doctor even though inside she was shaking. She had always had a fear of the doctor’s offices or sickbays and she had hoped it wasn’t showing to much.

“Thank you,” Illito said, as she finished up the scans. “You don’t have to sit on the biobed anymore, there’s nothing further it can to do help, I finished the scan, nothing abnormal, as I thought might be the case. There’s a chair over here you can sit on, since you’re not really a patient anymore, you don’t seem to have hit anything serious in falling over. But I do want to keep you in sickbay a little longer, if that’s okay, I think you might be able to help Paikea more. But we can talk somewhere else if you prefer, perhaps in my office, it looks less…clinical. Less…white. And I have a couple of chairs” Illito said with a glance around the white walls and biobeds. There wasn’t really any way to make a sickbay look less clinical though, since that was what was required to do its job, and it generally did its job quite well. She didn’t really mind the environment, it just plain seemed clean to her, which was good, but was aware that many people found such sterilization unpleasant. And Illito’s office was modeled off of that assumption, but to Illito’s own sense of color and combinations, after all, she was the one who would be working in it most of the time.
<Tag Katie.>
“You seemed to rush out of sickbay as soon as you could after you first got beamed aboard,” Illito said, once Katie was comfortably settled. “Was there a reason for that?” she asked. Katie looked a little uncomfortable. “You don’t have to answer that, it may help, or it may not, but you are more likely to know that than I am, since you presumably know that answer. So if you don’t feel that it’s particularly relevant, or important, you don’t have to mention it. And although it seemed more than just being eager to report for duty, I won’t ask you about it again if you say so, unless I feel that it might be relevant again.” Illito shrugged, she knew she wasn’t guaranteeing much, but that was about all she could guarantee to Katie.
